took her over the summer. There were Over 200 terms a week +essay every other week/reveiwing peers essays the following week. plus 4 chapters of reading and 2-4 short answer(really long answer q's) per day. Tests are very difficult mostly short answer and definitions you must write out both not multiple choice and she grades them very very hard.
Her class is hard, but if you study and do all you work you can get a good grade. I got a B, and that was during a summer class. She is a lot of fun and I loved her lectures. Great professor
She is the best teacher I've ever had! She really goes out of her way to make sure you understand the subject. There is a lot of work, especially essays. The tests are essay based with some multiple choice. The essays are straight from the study guide questions assigned after every lecture. EC is offered. she is energetic and enthusiastic!
she is literally, the BEST teacher i have had in my entire life. I have never learned so much or had so much interest in a subject before. Her tests are very fair and she grades them fairly. You just have to put in the effort...but she inspires you too!
Great Teacher!! Lectures are really fun. A lot of essays but she's a terrific teacher. Take her!
If you dislike writing, do not by any means take this class. For being a science class, the amount of essays and writing involved were ridiculous. However, her lectures are very interesting and you want to come to class because she is entertaining.
Great physiology teacher. difficult class, but you will learn a ton. She is more than willing to help and grades very fair.
Easily one of the BEST professors I have EVER had. Extremely personable and willing to do anything to help her students succeed. Exceedingly knowledgeable and explains concepts with perfect clarity. I took her physiology class during summer and wish I could have spent a whole semester in her class!!
SHE IS THE BEST! DIDN'T REALLY USE THE TEXT BOOK..HER LECTURES ARE ENOUGH...SHE IS SO CLEAR. SHE TALKS A LITTLE FAST THOUGH, SO YOU MIGHT WANT TO RECORD HER LECTURES. GAVE AN EASY FINAL. MAKE NOTECARDS ON YOUR TERMS AND DO THE STUDY GUIDE QUESTIONS..YOU WILL BE FINE. I TRULY HATED SCIENCE, BUT AFTER THIS CLASS YOU LEARN MORE AND ACTUALLY LIKE IT!
Easily the best teacher at moorpark!!
Jana is so bubbly and makes a SCIENCE class fun. She lectures clearly, and lets you know what you'll be tested on. Tests are based on lecture notes so you don't need to buy a textbook.
She is a sweet person but tests were hard. I studied very hard and i was stil not able to get an A. but i guess this is bio so what can you expect. Sad part is i got an A in bio 2A which is 10 times harder than this class but took it with easier teacher. take with courtney or samuels
She is the best! Her lectures are clear and she repeats difficult concepts several times so that you will understand the material. Her exams are not too difficult, but you do have to write a lot for her short answer and essay questions. Focus on her lecture notes rather than the textbook because her exams are based on her lecture notes.
Super easy to understand. Straight to the point. Listen up and write quick because she gets annoyed at people who never pay attention and make her repeat, even tho she will repeat. Don't buy the book don't need it. Took her for 2A and 2B. Gives out ton of extra credit. A lot of writing but nothing too crazy. I say take her!
This teacher was not as good as I expected. She is not clear in anything she wants and gets annoyed if the students don't understand. Her lectures are all over the place and hard to follow. Take a different teacher.
This class was not like any other Physiology class I have taken. Its very hard and she doesnt use the book. Its all based on the lecture. She goes way into physiology for this beginning phys class.
Gives extra credit, but class is a lot of work. Daily essays, a few big essays, lab practicals, final 10%cum. Overall a good class - like her a lot as a person :)
Excellent teacher. prepares you for future classes, but is not too hard.
I absolutely LOVE Dr. J! She is so helpful and makes sure everybody understands a concept before she moves on. The class is alot of writing, but I finished that class with so much more knowledge. Take her if you can, you won't regret it!!
She enjoys teaching and she encourages you to learn this subject. However she filters out the students who just want an easy A. The class is hard, but good. Small amounts of extra credit but don't depend on it. Everything is essay format. Homework after lecture. BE READY TO LEARN, AND YOU WILL PASS.
Jana is AMAZING! So passionate and enjoys teaching! Lots of writing and studying. She makes you work but you also learn a lot. I recommend everyone to take her. Truly unique and one of those professors you will always remember. She really knows her stuff and doesn't even need her notes to teach.
Very hard class, but very good. Lots of writing: essays after each class, essay tests, but great teacher. Nice and humorous, but be ready to work.
Dr. J is awesome!!! I took her last semester for physo, and honestly I didn't like the class at first simply because I was intimidated! However, she will help you understand the material. Attendance is a must!!! Do all the assignments that are required!!! Understand the definitions and re-write them over and over! Honestly this will help !!!!
She is very nice and she knows her stuff... however she goes through lectures pretty fast so you need to keep up and write fast... A LOT of essays which is hard if you dont have good notes... i dropped.
Fantastic teacher! I absolutely love Doctor J. She really knows her stuff & makes it easy to understand & relate to. A lot of essays & writing, so it may be a difficult class if writing isn't one of your strong points. She makes everything interesting & is one of the best teachers I've ever taken. I really wish she taught all my science classes!
Essay after EVERY single lecture (20 total), 3 LARGE Essays, 3 Lab practicals, 2 midterms + a Final. Some tiny extra credit opportunities. VERY HARD CLASS, tough style of grading. I got a B. Professor is funny and sort of hot in the right light. It's not that bad of a class if its the only class you are taking. Good Luck.
Dr. J is the best bio teacher! Easy to get a B but gotta work hard for an A... She's very smart and super nice. She knows the subject very well. Yes there's a lot of writing but trust me the "essays" or study guides that you have to do every lecture helps! and they are 10 easy points, CPR is a pain though. Take her, def one of the best!
Professor Johnson is by far my most favorite teacher. She knows her stuff. Had her for Bio 2B and got an A. Her practicals were sort of hard, but her lecture tests weren't that bad, considering she has a review day prior to the test that gives you all the terms she's testing you on. Extra credit was minimal, but it helps if you do all of them.
Dr Jana is the best teacher i have ever had! honestly i wish alllllll my science classes were taught by her!! You should always go to class because she explains everything so well and you really understand!! her tests and practicals are hard and you need to study! but you learn so much!
I think I have her in an off semester, I think she could be a great teacher, but she really has fallen short. It took her two and a half months to get back out first tests!! (no joke) I am still waiting for our second tests! It seems like her personal life is getting in the way of teaching. She is very scattered, at least she is giving our class EC
She's definitely all over the place but a really good teacher overall. She's more than welcome to help and provides a lot of extra credit opportunities. It's really not that bad of a class and she makes lectures interesting. I'd reccommend her to others!
I understand that her life was in a bit of a mess during this semester, but taking over a month to return an exam is unacceptable. She often forgets to do things. In addition, she spends a lot of class time rambling about random things. Exams were almost all written, save for fifteen MC questions. Written quizzes for each class lecture.
JANA JOHNSON IS THE MOST KIND HEARTED PROFESSOR EVER!! I am taking her class right now in the summer session. This class requires a lot of work, however, you should already expect that if you decided to take an online summer biology course. Jana is very funny and a sweet person who really wants her students to succeed!! TAKE HER!! A+++++
This class is hard! There is tons of writing in this class for test, lectures, etc. She was very late in grading test and responding to questions, I think she had family issues so that was understandable. I took this online over the summer and there is a lot of info to learn. She test off her lectures a lot. Really pay attention to those.
Disorganized, unfocused. Tested material inconsistent with provided lecture outlines and text material. Major portion of tests essay questions, difficult to know what points are important to her to receive full credit. Heavy homework load: Chapter reading and online quiz, then typed full summary of each lecture. Lectures interesting, charming lady.
The worst professor I have had at Moorpark College. She is not focused and is not accessible to students when you have questions. She used a personal excuse for the whole semester. I get it you had a problem but we all have problems and we still had to take the course. Grow up and be a teacher!
Delivers a FULL 2hr lecture and will pull mult. choice questions from ONE sentence during that lecture, thus you must MEMORIZE her lectures before tests (NO book use!). Extra credit given and the final was created by students which is how I got an A, b/c she replaced that with my lowest test grade.
Dr.J is great! This class is hard work (papers based on notes are nightly, plus "aplia" assignments), but it is very doable! Dr.J is super nice, helpful, and a great professor. She knows her stuff. The two midterms seem hard because it's 5 essays and 50 multipul choice, but she grades the papers easy. The final is a 100 question scantron.
This class isn't easy by any means, but I definitely recommend it! You must be willing to put in the work (lecture based exams everynight, online aplia and a quiz every lab period) but a lot of opportunites to raise your grade with extra credit and averaged test scores, also drops lowest scores. Oh and tests are all lecture, no book. Take it!
She is amazing!!!! She is the sweetest professor I have ever had. EASY A!!!!! Take her, it will be a great experience. I love her.
Took this class on line. A lot of work, very heavy class, exams are in class. She did take long to answer questions through e-mail. If you study the book you should do ok.
Each midterm is 100 questions from 9 chapters EACH. Too much online work which you must pay $60 to register for. I went into her office for help and she had her arms crossed the entire time, acting like I was stupid when I was legitimately spending hours a day to still get Ds on her exams. Too much inconsistency between lecture and exam material.
NOT AN ESSAY A! The most scattered teacher ever, expects way to much from an intro class. If asked a question you are treated like the dumbest person ever. Knows her subject well, but is a very bad teacher. Class is very fast moving and is a mix of online and heavy book use. TEST ARE EXTREMELY HARD/ FOCUS ON DETAILS AND ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO STUDY FOR!
The worst teacher i have ever had. Extremely rude and gives the worst lectures i have ever seen. Biology is a Teach Your Self type of class but god is she bad. She leaves her phone on during tests and is late every other week. Highly suggest not to take her. Tests are hard & only on her lecture, which sucks because her lecture is a down right joke.
Very difficult professor. The class requires a lot of online work. She tests only on her lectures and her powerpoints only show pictures, so be prepared to type/write fast. She talks about things irrelevant to the test. hours and hours of studying got me a C on all midterms. She doesn't allow you to keep the tests to study. would not take her again
Good teacher. Drops several low grades and will replace your lowest test with the final. Tests are hard, but grading scale makes up for it. 1 Page essays and online quizzes due every lecture (AKA busywork). Gives secret extra credit if you stay until the end of lab to help clean up and/or learn. Take good notes on what she says in lecture.
Honestly...do not take it. If you care for your GPA, don't do this to yourself. You will regret it. I never have any clue on what to study for when exams are coming up. No SG and gives very little extra credit that helps 0.1% of your grade. Do not listen to the comments that say shes good. I did...and I ended up writing this. Save yourself people.
terrible...just terrible. It was always a hard class but with a professor that does not help at all...it is worse.
Surprised by some comments here. Class is easy to pass. 65% is a C. Gives lots of extra credit. Throws around free points for lab practicals. Really wants you to understand the material. That said, tests are very detailed and hard. My average was a 65, still got a B.
She is one of my favorite teachers so far. Very nice lady. I received an A in her class. Just do every assignment, study, and do the extra credit opportunities and you will do fine. Trust me.
Funny lady, useless lectures. Read the book, never depend on your notes. Ever. Those are useful for turning in...yes you must submit your lecture notes (she drops like 10 of them though along with a bunch of other stuff). Lab quizzes are easy, just write down the lab terms, google them, and read the lab topics assigned. You'll more than pass.
Don't bother if you're not willing to try and succeed. The work can be hard, but she's always fair. Very much a "You get what you earn" professor.
Class is extremely hard, tests never contain anything she lectures about however it is possible to get a high grade. read the textbook, do extra credit and she does drop A LOT of stuff.
Took marine bio, boring at first but stick around and the class time picks up and becomes so interesting! Her lectures are clear, she is very nice and adds so much humor and life to her lectures, very down to earth. Lots of opportnunity for grace (multiple low assignments & an exam drop) and extra credit. Not easy, you will be challenged.
Took class online, super nice teacher but very involved class. At least one lecture and quiz every week sometimes more, class is opened from the beginning to the end so you do work at your pace, which I really liked. Lab assignment was very involved and only had one extra credit opp. No discussions! Overall though good experience!
Instructor set up course so she does least amount work possible. All assignments are online and automatically graded. Essays are turned into data base and graded by peers. She had regrade policy, but after repeated requests I was ignored. I learned nothing and was disappointed as a science major.
Lectures are frustrating, overly long, and somewhat condescending. She uses a platform for the lectures that you cannot download, so if your Internet goes on the fritz or the site is down for maintenance, you're out of luck. She seems personable otherwise and uses great textbook. But the lectures...I will avoid all future classes.
She is AWSOME!! TAKE HER!! She is so funny, so nice! She really cares about her students and the class is almost like a big party! You will be laughing constantly!
Don't get me wrong, she is a sweetheart but I have never been so stressed in my entire life. She gives so many assignments that you can barely keep up. Even she can't keep up grading! Tests are super hard, she said that she expects a C average on her tests and hopes for nothing close to 100%. Take her only if you're desperate.
She's a great teacher but also a VERY busy one. I gave her slack for grading time. She tells really funny stories in lecture! Her field trips are also really fun. My class went to several aquariums and went kayaking in Monterrey. Sounds unbelievable but ask her yourself. She covers a lot in lecture but that's because Bio book in like 50lbs!
Took her online M01 class. I liked that the class was fully open from the start but there was A LOT of work & the labs were quite confusing. Weekly (long) lectures, lots of note taking & the research paper was ridiculous. Can be a tough grader so be sure if you take her to be extremely detailed & ready to do a lot of work
She is an amazing teacher. She explains everything in perfect analogies to everyday life. If you do all the work and attend class you will pass. She is so funny and if you are sick there are online lectures. If she offered any classes that I needed, she will be my 1st pick. There is a lot of work. Teaches for all types of students(visual, etc )
Currently taking her online class for summer school and hating it. Don't get me wrong, she is really funny which is all she's got going for her. You listen to her lecture as she is simultaneously teaching and in-person class and it is obvious that her attention is on them. I have no idea what she is teaching most of the time.
EXTREMELY nice person. Also a VERY good teacher. Lots of work, but if you do it, you will pass with flying colors.
J Dog was an awesome teacher and a nice person. There is a good amount of work but if you do it you will pass with an A.
Dr. Johnson is an awesome professor. Her bio class is challenging in all the right ways. Great teaching style, fun, she cares about your education and best part... You learn biology! If I could have Dr Johnson for all my classes I would, hands down. Highly recommend!!!!
I highly recommend Dr. Johnson for marine bio. You really see her passion for this course! I worked for my grade, but it was fun and loved every second of it. Every question I had in and out of class was happily answered and explained well. Dr. J is an amazing professor. You will not be let down!
Prof. J is charismatic and emotive, and the assignments she gives are designed for every kind of learning type, which is why there are so many, but it also means a lot are dropped. She challenges you, but is willing to explain things to those that don't understand and gives a LOT of EC. She does a phenomenal job preparing bio majors for university.
Dr. J is awesome! She knows the material very well and teaches both sides of controversial subjects. Makes the subject easy to understand and lectures are mostly class discussion with a lot of jokes thrown in. Gives extra credit, drops missed class days and made the class fun. If I had to take any more bio classes I'd choose her again hands down
Dr J is the best teacher on campus. She makes sure to teach to every learning style and understands if you're struggling. She gives lots of extra credit opportunities, her lectures are energetic and she keeps things interesting. This is still a tough class with a tough subject matter, but she stresses the point that she is here to help you!
Marine biology was a blast with her. So many field trip opportunities, like Monterey Bay Aquarium and Leo Carrillo tide pools, and fun dissections. You can tell she is really passionate about the subject too which is so important in a teacher. This class was lots of fun!
Zoology with Dr J was a blast, and you learn so much. No, its not an easy class but it makes it that much more rewarding when you finish. Dr J was always available to talk or to help. She really cares about the subject and the students. And she is so fun to be in the class room with!
Dr. J is the most amazing teacher you'll ever have. Lots of lectures, must take notes, read book, online reading quizzes, extra credit points a ton. Tests are very hard so studying is a must. Class with her is so much fun and you learn a lot.
I took this class for fun and that is what I got: Dr. J is a great teacher. She is insanely disorganized, but she loves teaching and cares for her students. The more you go out of your way to learn, the more she'll go out of her way to teach you and make sure you do well. She helps out a lot (extra assignments and such, she knows tests are hard).
I had her for biology and she was awesome! She is so funny and sweet. She really cares about your grade and as long as you try in the class and show up, you will pass with a good grade. I would highly recommend her. I do not usually go on rate my professor but I felt compelled to give her a good review. I would take her again!
Her biology class was the best, i loved going to it and the labs knowing i was about to do something i probably have never done before. Just show up and do the home work and put interest. definitely take her again.
I highly recommend Dr. J. She will definitely keep you awake during lecture and she makes sure you understand the material before she moves on. Attendance to lecture and lab as well as participation give you automatic credit. She gives you options as far as making up work and she understands that "things happen" but she never holds that against you
She expects you to put everything in your own words even if it's a multiple choice question or a fill in the blank? She's a super stingy grader too.
I had to drop her on-line course because she makes you do so much work! I understand it's a 4-week course, but she makes you do so much work. She makes you listen to her on-line lectures and take notes. She breathes into the microphone and it's tough to hear at times. This is basically an English class with Biology topics. Two essays are required.
If you hate tests, and love essays this is the class for you. All of the grading material is spelled out exactly at the beginning of the semester. She requires peer review essays, which help your grade a ton. There is also extra credit. You can get an A in this class with average effort. She is great for GPA recovery
This was an online summer class, understandable that there would be plenty of work, but for three chapters having to listen to 10 lectures(45min at least each) and type one page notes was excessive. A lot of work for even a summer class. I am a straight A student and this was NOT doable. If it was one lecture per chapter that would be doable.
Great teacher! makes you work for it but totally worth it. She's very passionate about what she teaches.
The best professor i have ever had. She truly cares about the field she's in and her job and all her students. Class is very simple- online quizzes, a few essays, and show up for the notes. that's it. just do these things and you will be fine. I would recommend her to everyone.
Truthfully, I hated everything about the class at first. I thought there was too much work but Dr. J is really the best teacher I've ever had. She is the first Professor to ever make me think outside of the box the way she did. Because of her class, she helped me open my mind up to new ideas. Plus, I learned so much about the human body!
Her semester-long on campus class is fantastic. She's one of those rare few professors who very clearly loves what she does and has amusing and effective lectures because of it. She also allows tests to be substituted by essays and creates a very easy class to pass for anyone should you invest 6 hours a week to homework/studying.
She does not grade what you write, I'm sure she does not even read it just gives you a grade based on what your plagiarism check is. She did not grade anything until finals week so i had no idea what my grade was the entire semester. She should learn how to edit her online lectures because there was a good 2 minutes of her coughing.
Dr. J is truly an amazing professor. She is very passionate in her subject and also cares for her students health. She does NOT want to stress you out, she understands life happens. Her lectures are a mixture of all teaching, I mostly want to say its auditory. I love her and would love to take any class she teaches
Dr. J is an incredibly kind, knowledgeable lady. She knows biology thoroughly and is excited and intent to promote learning in students. That being said, her class is a very easy A. Exams are optional as most of your grade comes from peer reviewed papers. Mastering biology is used extensively. Loads of extra credit is offered during the semester
Jana was definitely one of my favorite teachers. She structures her class so you have options (like writing an essay or taking a test). She does care a lot about attendance and participation but the lectures and labs are enjoyable anyway.
I love Dr. J! The grading system is based on points, so more pointshigher grade. You can opt out of tests if you get a good grade on the essays(she replaces tests w/ essay scores). You have one field trip that's required and one extra credit one worth 50 points that you shoul definitely do. I got 115% and I suck at science!
Terrible professor. Accuses students of falling asleep and slacking off when it clearly doesn't happen. Class is also very boring and she lectures on very mundane topics that have little to do with biology as a whole. Very condescending as well to students. Avoid if possible
Dr. J is an awesome person... but horrible professor. She doesn't grad until the very end of the semester, has you write papers that have nothing to do with in class material, and is unclear regarding assignments. If you actually want to learn something would not recommend this class.
Dr. J has gotten on my top 10 list of teachers I've ever had. She genuinely cares about her students, and she puts so much more importance in learning than in grades and testing. I've learned more in her class than I do in most. Her classes are mandatory, and tardiness is penalized, but she makes lectures fun. Would gladly take again.
Johnson is one of the best professors I've ever had. She gives a lot of slack and cares about her students. She focuses a lot on essays for grades, so keep that in mind. She has great lectures and posts the notes proper and recordings of her lecturing; Mastering Biology is needed, so the main textbook is useful for that but never used the lab book.
If you want to work hard but see no results then take this Professor . She intentionally tries to make your life difficult. She herself puts zero effort into teaching but expects students to be perfect . She does not grade most things till after your finals so be prepared to be left anxious .
If she is grading your paper she is tough, if it's peer reviewed you are good ( it's peer reviewed: ) She is funny and REAL, so you can talk to her about pretty much anything. I strongly recommend. She gives you a lot to help you succeed because she knows people go through a lot. SHE DOESN'T BELIEVE IN EXAMS. If you're a bad test taker, TAKE HER!
To those looking at the fact that Dr J does not have exams, THAT HAS CHANGED. Her bio 2b class now includes four exams, no essays. Her lectures are disorganized and scattered. She literally just talks (fast) with a picture pulled up on the board and expects you to be able to keep up with your notes. Luckily there is a LOT of extra credit (150 pts)
I understand that there is a lot of work to do in a four-week summer class, but this was just too much. The essays and textbook work was alright. Listening to several hour long lectures each week was the unbearable part. Her lectures are incredibly difficult to follow and understand. I constantly had to replay parts just to try to understand.
Dr. J really knows her stuff. She is knowledgeable and can reword things or give examples for topics if you arent understanding. Her tests are tough and there is a lot of content but there is enough extra credit to protect your grade. Overall a fantastic professor and I would take her again in a heartbeat.
Just do all your chapter reviews, show up for lecture and ACTUALLY dissect something and youll pass. Dont go on your phone during class though, she hates that.
Horrible. She switched all the due dates for our online assignments from Sunday night to Friday night, giving us only 24 hours notice on Thursday. She set our entire class up for failure when she could have just left it as is. Unnecessary amount of work, listening to lectures should not be required. It's online for a REASON.
Accelerated Human Biology online summer course. Assigned work on Mondays that was due Fridays. Absolutely no opportunity to work on weekends, which was not clear in the syllabus, and only made clear after the drop deadline. Logistically frustrating instructor, but she graded very easily. Her lectures were easy to follow.
Dr. J is the best professor that I've had to date. Her lectures will teach you more than you thought you could ever learn! She gives a lot of slack and is extremely caring as well. Show up to class, do the dissections, do your homework, and STUDY!
If you want to take this class online don't it's the most bum class I have taken so far on the deadlocs. Sh gives loads of homework will drop you if you don't do the first week of work and the homework you do get makes absolute no sense there is no explanation about anything and if you don't send in documents into the right type of file it's a zero
This class was definitely tough but Dr. J is a great professor. Her lectures were more like a conversation and she was always able to give helpful examples for tough concepts. I learned so much from this class. Her exams are really tough but there are enough extra credit opportunities to protect your grade.
Dr. J is an amazing professor and overall person. She is very personable and makes her lectures fun and interesting. Her exams are hard, but there is a lot of chances to do well with extra credit and just showing up and participating. The only thing I didn't like was that the personal assessments due every class felt like busy work.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IT'S EXTREMELY HARD AND WILL DESTROY YOUR GPA!! TEST ARE HARD AND ON TOP OF THAT THERE'S A LOT OF WORK REQUIRED!!!
I feel grateful to have had Dr. J as a professor. She's a caring and intelligent individual that treats her students with much respect. Class is always fun with her unique personality. Super knowledgeable and treats all of her students equally. A lot of homework, but it helps your grade a lot and is worth it. So glad I was able to take her class.
I am honestly glad I took her class. Probably the most difficult class that I took here. It's impossible to just coast through here class, every person got the grade that they deserved by the amount of work they put in. This absolutely prepared me for upper division bio classes at CP SLO (if anything it was harder lol). Make sure to do the EC!
Horrible professor. She gives zeros for assignments you will spend the whole weekend on. Relies on the textbook to teach the entire course. Doesn't offer any help when you email her. I don't know why she's even a teacher. She doesn't care about her students in the slightest.
Dr Johnson is a respectable teacher. She is very knowledgeable about the subject but can be quite confusing when explaining her lectures. Her lectures follow a powerpoint with her speaking and elaborating on the certain topic. Her test questions are extremely difficult, she gets question from MCAT so this class is highly recommended to Pre-med.
she lectures well but she can be condescending & she makes a lot of microaggressions. describing a bad experience she had with someone and rolling her eyes saying "he was from a dif culture" and another time telling us to "thank" a veteran on Veteran's Day when she knows some of us were from countries destroyed by the US military. very tone deaf
Dr. Johnson provides endless opportunities to redeem your grade and is infinitely understanding of your circumstances. If you give her respect she will reciprocate 100% and will give her full effort to make sure you succeed in her class. The tests are difficult and the lectures are intense but she gives plenty of leeway making an A+ likely.
Dr. J has truly been my anatomy/biology hero. Ive taken at least 4 anatomy/biology classes and have been taught a lot of the same material before but never actually LEARNED it. Dr J has a way of teaching that makes the information stick like no one I've ever met. I wish all my teachers were like Dr J and had the passion for the subject and students
This class is one of the most heavy loaded work classes I have taken. Her lectures are extremely dense and long and she literally had a lecture that she recorded in class and posted it and you could barely hear what she was saying. This class is way too hard and her labs are insane for it to be online and individual. Would not recommend.
There are only three test in the class and a ton of information. She doesn't give any good study guides or help prepare you for the tests. All the questions are very specific and hard to understand. She designs the test so that at best you get a C on them, it's in her syllabus. She teaches as if you already know all the info. Would NOT recommend!
There are not enough words to describe how terrible this professor is. She is a nice person but terrible teacher. The lectures can be 6 hours long and half of it is her sipping coffee and pausing. The tests are impossible and the highest grade on the midterms are usually an 80%. Do not take this professor if you want a good GPA. This class SUCKS.
AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID!! WORST CLASS EVER! SO MANY ASSIGNMENTS FOR NO REASON!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! DON'T LISTEN TO THE GOOD REVIEWS!! I HAVE NEVER STRESSED FOR A CLASS BEFORE AND I HAVE TAKEN OCHEM !!
Johnson is the worst teacher I've had in all the years I have been in school. Assigns 2 pre-lectures, notes to turn in, 4 labs/wk, discussion posts, and a GRADED practice exam EVERY WEEK. ridiculous amount of work for you to end up getting a D in her exams. Like literally, she mentioned it on her syllabus like she's proud that we fail her tests.
Probably the toughest class that I have ever taken. Extremely high amount of homework assignments and labs which are all due within a short time frame. I completely understand that this is a content-heavy course but the amount of homework is really excesive and as others mentioned she states in the syllabus that her exams are extremely difficult.
I cannot express the amount of stress that came from this course. Worst professor ever who lacks empathy for her students, especially when all we're doing is online learning. Teaches the class like it's the only class we're taking. HW that is well over the 25 hr/wk she wants us to dedicate. honestly horrible person who shouldn't teach students.
Makes the class harder than it needs to be. Provided no support for her students and left us in the dark. Gave us only 4 days to complete a ton of assignments that do not correspond to her tests. Exams are extremely difficult and are set up for you to fail, as it's stated on the syllabus. Don't understand why she's a professor if she does not help.
I took this class during the Summer and it was OK. Lots of reading and hw questions (I dunno if she actually checks if the answers are all correct though haha). Mainly textbook reading and some at-home experiments. Winogradsky column was fun but mine turned out terrible! Still got full points though.
i would give her zero stars if i could. literally the worst prof i have ever had. it is a fully online intro to bio class. she is so unorganized and uses old lectures and the lectures are about 3 hours long and we were expected to watch 2 of them a week on top of doing other classwork. she is unhelpful when answering questions nd unfam w onlne clss
Dr. J's class was very hard, but she made it interesting and entertaining. Beware, her exams are very hard, so study the lectures thoroughly.
I would avoid this class at all costs if you don't have the time to put in the work. In the syllabus she even states that the average on midterms are below a 70, which is true! I studied a whole week before and still managed to get a 64%. The only reason I was able to get an A was by doing the extra credit and completing all my assignments.
Great professor!
She keeps you engaged and allows you to not only master the material but understand it for years to come. She is incredibly passionate about helping her students and is one of the smartest teachers I have encountered at Moorpark. While her tests are hard you will find that you benefit from them, learn a lot, and still can pass with flying colors.
Easily the best teacher at Moorpark. STEM material is never easy so do not expect to not do anything, if you are looking for that pick a new major. You will have to work hard but she is approachable and offers an abundance of extra credit. She understands that we all learn differently and caters to that. Most importantly you will learn so much!
Dr. Johnson has an amazing wealth of knowledge and experience in the field of biology and really shows in her class. The emphasis on providing multiple learning styles (visual, auditory, and tactile) was invaluable, making the material learned and understood in a way that stays with you long after the final.
It was always possible to get a hold of Dr. Johnson outside of class when needed. She was always willing to work with me if I had an issue and needed some help.
Dr. J is an incredibly passionate and knowledgeable STEM professor and you will learn a TON if you pay attention; she makes the content interesting and applicable every week. All the expectations were laid out early on, including multiple opportunities for extra credit and plenty of easy points to pad your grade (especially labs!)
Class was always fun and engaging. Dr. Johnson has a knack for explain topics in multiple ways that really helps to learn the subject.
Best teacher. Lecture was always fun, Dr. J always gives great examples and has hilarious relevant stories that make learning fun and easy. Just paying attention in lecture got me 90% of the way to acing the exams.
Dr. Johnson was one of my favorite professors! She was kind, caring, understanding, and tried to give as many opportunities for extra credit and help. She was a great professor and very upfront. If you want a professor you can rely on and get credit for a class I would highly recommend her!
If you are not into zoology, you will fail. Lectures were engaging, but very long, usually 3 hrs. Labs were easy, mostly watching vids and summarizing them.Tests were difficult and long, consisting of the smallest details, so study and pay attention. She gave a final paper which sounded scary, but she was an easy grader. Tough, but caring.
Passionate about Zoology. Great lectures & lots of extra credit! She drops multiple low scores in addition to the extra credit, including a midterm! She works with endangered butterflies and knows zoology.
Love her class! She respected my beliefs & was ok with me observing instead of dissecting. My favorite part was visiting the zoo.
I learned so much & this was the course that made me want to drive to campus. She had lecture archives on Canvas that helped me keep up when I was home with Covid. Great class.
Dr. J is very dedicated and caring. She is the first professor I've taken that really tried to help us develop our ability to think rather than just memorize. I did not have a background in science, and she made sure to check on me. Highly recommend her class!
Great course! Dr. J dropped low scores & had lots of extra credit it really helped me to succeed. Loved her lectures & the game we played the last lab.
I sat on this for a while and decided to go ahead and share. She spends too much time talking about herself and her life. She also clearly cares more about her butterfly project than teaching. She also has a bit of a STEM attitude problem iykyk. Take literally anyone else.
Took her back in 2022. Nice person, straightforward when answering questions. I sometimes felt then some of the stuff on her quizzes and tests were things that she mentioned during lectures but never put in the lecture notes, which I found slightly annoying. Overall though, good professor.
I loved her 2B class. She works very hard to apply the concepts to real life situations. That made the information relevant and easier to understand and master. Her exams are pulled from UCLA and since that is where I want to transfer to, it is helping me to prep. She was also more than willing to discuss UCLA from her experience teaching there.
Dr J has a ton of extra credit (including extra credit for attending and participating). She also drops the low scores, including midterms! She is easy to approach and helped me to understand some of the concepts that were more difficult for me, given my background was weaker in science than some. GREAT TEACHER
Great Class. Attendance is not mandatory, but I wanted to come to discuss the material. She went above and beyond to help me learn and wrote a letter of recommendation for me (and I wind the scholarship!) Take her class!
I took Dr J for Bio 2B, Zoo and her Independent studies course in endangered butterfly breeding. She puts students first in every case. I learned so much and she gave me an award for my work on her butterflies. She also included my name on the author list for the butterfly report! Amazing professor
One of the most caring teachers I have ever taken. She walked me over and introduced me to the support staff on campus that could help me. She went above and beyond to make sure that I not only succeeded in her class, but also stay stable in life in general. BEST TEACHER EVER!
Dr J made class so fun! She brings humor and applies the topics to real life. She goes out of her way to help you achieve. MY F
LOVED HER CLASS! She reminded me why I chose Biology as my major. She also wrote an amazing letter of recommendation for me. So glad I took her class.
You can tell she really cares about, well, everything. You must show up to class, participate, and put in the work studying to pass exams. The lectures are entertaining and fly by. It's easy to learn because she makes things relatable and breaks complex topics down into something everyone can understand.
There were several hours worth of lecture videos and homework. You have to turn in detailed lecture notes on every lecture video. We cover anywhere from 2-4 chapters a week and there are multiple sections per chapter with questions. This builds up quickly and we usually have 90+ paragraphs to write every week. Don't take with other classes.
I took Dr. J onsite for Bio 2B and she was amazing! Everything is tied to real world examples and I LOVED that. Exams had a solo and a group portion and that really made them less stressful. Loved working with other students in lab too. Excellent class!
I learned more in this class than any other biology class I've taken so far. She also teaches at UCLA and shares UCLA labs and test questions with us. I feel so much more prepared for my next step!
I am so grateful for this class. Dr J is amazing. She goes out of her way to make sure that you are understanding the material and tying it to real life. Loved the final paper that was all about tying the material to my life instead of having to memorize useless info.
I am still amazed at her work with endangered butterflies and that she is willing to include us in that work. She helped me to prepare for my dream of being an EATM student at the zoo & it is helping me so much with my classes as an EATM student. Great class!
Zoology was my favorite class with Dr. J. I took her for Bio 2B as well, which was good, but this class was great!
I am in her Zoology class right now and LOVE it! I highly recommend taking her class, she works on endangered butterflies at the zoo and I'm planning on signing up to do that with her. Great prep for EATM.
I LOVED DR. J. She might not directly understand the question ur asking, but she will try her 100% best to answer. This woman is truly made to teach. She uses analogies to try and help us learn, which is the best for me!! Overall, I wish she was my teacher for every class. I love her so much. She truly cares for the students who try.
Extra credit built into syllabus. Clearly wants her students to succeed; teaches in a way that makes the lectures engaging without feeling like one big memorization game. Both lectures and labs are SO much fun; she "teaches like a UCLA professor without grading like one". Love her. Runs the Palos Verdes Blue butterfly restoration project on campus!
Took her online summer Human Biology. It is a 4 week course, so it was a lot to do, but well organized and interesting. I also loved being able to work at my own pace. Highly recommend if you are trying to knock out your science GE fast like I was.
Her tests are VERY hard, but she has a lot of extra credit opportunities which is nice. Her lectures keep you very engaged she is not boring or monotone. We barely used the lab book so I would not buy a hard copy at the bookstore just buy the online version its way cheaper. Very easy to fall behind she moves quickly.
Uses Inquisitive for online textbook. Lectures are extremely important to listen to- they will be used for the homework and the tests. The tests are hard and you need to spend time studying for this class. The online layout for homework assignments was a little confusing at first and the lectures are long to listen to.
Love her, her story times are great never a dull moment. She tests on application of knowledge rather then a regurgitation of the textbook. Lots of extra credit, show up and you'll be fine. Lab manual was not used as much, you need it but see if you can get an online ver. you can print or buy it dirt cheap on ebay. Trust me take her if you can !
Prof J's classes are engaging and relevant. She makes complex topics digestible through real-world examples. Textbook is optional, but attending lectures and using tools like unstuck ai for study prep are key. Prepare to work, but you'll learn a ton!
Shes great overall especially if you suck at bio. You really cannot fall behind she does not accept late work but as long as your on top of your work you'll pass easily.
I was more than happy to have taken this class for my biological science credit. Excellent teacher who gives you several opportunities to succeed. Pay close attention to the lectures and you will be successful.
Let me start off by saying she's extremely nice. Just not a fan of her class style you listen to her lectures and she expects a full page of notes in paragraph form per lecture. 2-3 chapters are covered each week. After each week you're easily spending hours just on notes on top of reading & the book assignments.
Amazing teacher! Dr. J really knows her stuff. Definitely covers a LOT but it's not bad so long as you commit to studying. Lectures are very content-heavy, I would not advise missing class. Lots of extra credit opportunities and her expectations for students are very clear. 10/10 would take again
DO THE EXTRA CREDIT attend lectures (on time) for point of extra credit, tests are super difficult so don't bother studying anything else than her provided lecture slides. I went into the final with 101% in the class and ended with a high 96% even after having a C test average. Lab practical is insanely easy, the teacher wants you to succeed!
Great professor. Would recommend 100%.
Honestly, worst professor ever. Gets distracted very easily. If you like to ask questions don't take her. It seems like she gets insulted when you ask questions about the curriculum. She's honestly quite very rude. she will miss class for butterfly stuff. Does not respond to emails. Also requires 30 minute PowerPoint presentation by yourself.
I took her butterfly course tool. Lecture was very interactive & she welcomes questions, though that can take the class onto other topics. I also loved going on the SEEDS field trip to San Diego Zoo & San Diego Natural History Museum. We only had to pay for getting down there and then we went behind the scenes! So cool!
The only positives is there are no test or quizzes. There is SO MUCH HOMEWORK. LOTS OF READING. HOUR LONG LECTURES. I have spent entire DAYS doing biology. Don't take this class if you have a social life. The coursework is extremely demanding. The actual material wasn't hard for me but just finish your work on time. AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS!!
Summer Sem. LOTS OF WORK 2 things per week but they both took me a full day each. Textbook ?'s r usually around 24 total but each answer needs to be 5 sentences. Lecture notes need to be a full page per topic on 10pt and single spaced. It's easy to get an A if you follow her instructions+do all assignments. So workload bad. Material easy.
Summer was fast and there was a lot of work. She made it as forgiving as possible. Summer classes are intense.
Not much teacher-student interactions since this was an 8 week course. Hard to say much about her. The work is easy, just time consuming. Lectures are very long and requires a page of notes for each topic. Only take it if you know you have time to do the work.
8 week course, so lecture heavy. I did enjoy her lectures and the examples she gave. I am taking it as my science GE and appreciated it compared to the one I had to drop last semester.
Dr. J is a great professor. She is extremely knowledgeable and she really cares about her students and wants everyone to succeed. Lab is super easy as long as you stay on course and submit the write up on time. Her tests are a bit challenging and they require a lot of critical thinking which is great IMO. E.C is a life saver.. show up to class.
