what can i say? gotta love Jancy! you cant go to lmc and not take her class. shes down-right funny, gives really good notes and crystal-clear lectures. the class is really tough because of all the material but she makes it bearable.
Jancy is a good instructor. She gets stern when talking about the necessity to get up to the AT Center to take the mini quizzes, but really, it's for our own benefit. Tests are based on lectures, and very clear. As long as you study class notes for the tests and the lab manual for the mini quizzes, you're on top of everything. Take Rickman!
She is a good teacher, but this class is a lot of work with going to the bio lab. You learn a lot, but you have to study, don't ever cram 2 days before because you will get a low grade. She does keep class entertaining and is very helpful, but there is a lot to know.
she i a excellent biology teacher i highly recommend taking her if you need biosc 10
jancy is an amazing instructor. i highly recommend her. her lectures are extremely well delivered & like someone else said, crystal clear. i wish they could clone her and have her teach every single course offered. she's that good!
She made biology the funnest thing ever! I was always interested and had so much fun in her class! she made lecture fun! i totally recommend her! love jancy!
Great Teacher!
Mrs Rickman is an amazing teacher!,i went into BIO 10 with some basic knowlege of biology that i learned in highschool, and now i know a great deal because of jancy, and now i want to be a BIO major! her lectures are fun and interesting, she offers study sessions and she loves her job and biology. i give her 5 stars. just pay attention, and study.
She is one of the best teachers at LMC. This class is so hard, but the clarity of her lecture notes are extremely helpful. Her tests questions are pulled out from the notes with a little more application. Go to class and do the labs. She is a kind and caring person who wants everyone to pass. RECOMMENDED =]
EXTREMLY EASY TEACHER. NOTES AND TEST EASY TOO
She is a great teacher very helpful. She gave great notes that really helped with her exams. All you have to do is show up to class and take good notes I got an A in her class.
She's the reason why I changed my major to Biology. I took Bio 10 and 20 with her and I learned a lot! Bio 20 is a especially hard class but with her guidance, excellent lectures and amazing notes just put dedication and time and you'll do good (and learn a lot). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Prof Rickman is a very good teacher all you have to do is show up to class, take notes, and study those notes for the test and you will pass. Don't buy the textbook you don't need it for her class as long as you go to class. She is very nice and makes sure everyone understands the lecture. Also she looks just like Ellen Degeneres!!!!
DO NOT BUY THE BOOK FOR THIS CLASS. All the tests are based off the lecture & kinda from the bio videos. Go to class everyday b/c notes are very crucial. Tests are fair if you study. Rickman is a good teacher and she has a good sense of humor as well. If you put in the effort you will get a good grade in this class. No hw, just bio lab every week.
Mrs. Rickman is the best biology instructor that I have ever had!She makes material that can be difficult for some easy to understand for everyone and has a great sense of humor. Grade is based on the exams since there is no hw other than labs so if you get all B's on the tests, you will get an overall B in the course.
Jancy makes it perfectly clear what you need to do to succeed in her classes. My recommendation: show up to lecture and don't miss labs. It's time well spent and will save you many(!) hours in the long run. And, if you don't understand something, ask for help-- you'll get it.
Jancy is a really nice person, however her class a whole is extremely hard. Its meant to be general biology, but she treats it as if every student in her class plans on becoming a biologists or biochemist. Her tests are insane, and the lab practicals are even worse. Unless you are planning to be a biologist, dont take her.
I absolutely LOVE Jancy. Even though the class was by no means easy, she is so helpful. She really wants everyone to succeed and truly cares about her students. Her lectures are interesting and she is very entertaining. As long as you take good notes on the lectures you will do well on the tests. No homework, just studying.
Jancy is the best Bio instructor at LMC. She claims that she can be mean, but she has not shown that side because I have done everything I was supposed to do. She is very clear on the material, and she is quite amusing when demonstrating. I could have gotten a higher grade only if I had prepped for the final a bit better. Take Bio 10 with her.
Jancy is the best! Very clear in her expectations, instructions and lectures. Test are hard...but hey, bio 21 IS for biology majors, so that's to be expected (not sure what that person was saying about this class not being for bio majors). Take Jancy for biology (any biology class, in fact), you won't regret it.
Great instructor (the best in the biology department). Class is tough (it IS geared for bio majors--contrary to what another person states) so that's to be expected. Highly recommend Jancy for any of the the bio classes (10, 30, 20, 21).
The bio labs are very wordy and confusing. she cares about students understanding the material. Asks if she was clear. Dont buy the book. Tests are based on her notes and labs. You need to study to pass.
She is the best professor that I ever had! I wish I could take her with me when I transfer. She is very organized;her lectures are clear, important and reflective of the exams. You have to put the work in but it will pay off. She is super nice, funny and really helpful to students. I recommend her for any class especially if you truly want to learn
Makes Bio so easy! She's so sweet and really wants you to understand the material. There are a lot of opportunities to get good grades! (Exams, Lab Practicals, Student Presentations, etc.) I LOVE HER..
Such an amazing woman! She makes everything perfectly clear. As long as you take everything seriously and study, you will get a good grade. This is not a class you can just do good in without actually putting in the time, but if you do, you will do extremely well!
Jancy is a great instructor. She is really funny and she takes her teaching very seriously. You will learn lots from her! You can also get away without buying the $150 book!
I loved taking Jancy's Bio 10 class. She is awesome! She makes everything really easy to understand, and she will do what she can to make sure you succeed. Going to class everyday is very important since all of the test questions are taken from lecture notes. Textbook is hardly used so I wouldn't bother buying it.
Ms. Rickman is a great teacher, the tests are straight from the lecture. Other than the normal class time you will have to separate 4 hours a week to do the lab, they are easy if you take notes while doing them, DO NOT expect to memorize the labs. Class is easy, just show up and take accurate notes, ask questions. Ms. Rickman is very funny and cool.
Mrs. Rickman is one of the best teachers Ive had at LMC. She does whatever she can for her students to understand the lesson and will always help anyone who asks for it. She goes slow during lectures and she is clear. Test are straight forward. It is a bio major class so you will not coast thru this class without studying. Make time for this class!
Do not buy the book! Do not buy the book! Do not buy the book!i bought the book i spent a lot of money on it. read the first chapter which is like 4 pages, never opened it again. test and quizzes are based on labs and lectures. Professor Rickman is one of my favorite instructors. passionate about what she teaches. really funny. Don't miss lecture.
She's a great professor, her lectures are clear and concise, and she will make sure you understand the material if you have any questions. If you attend every lecture and absorb everything, you don't really need to read the book, so that can be a plus for you. Her class is fair, if you listen and try, you'll make it perfectly fine.
Jancy is one of the best teachers I have had in my life. She is very clear, very organized & fair. The topics she teaches aren't the easiest, specially if you're a non major, however, if you put in the work you will be rewarded. I got an A in 10 no problem at all n expected 20 to be just as easy so I took it lightly and got a B-my fault, not hers.
Loved Jancy. Lectures and labs were fun. Textbook is nonexistent. No homework. Only weekly quizzes based off the labs. 4 Exams total in lecture and they are all pretty much lecture-based. I attended class about once every 2 weeks. Still managed to get an A. You can get extra credit on each exam. And an extra credit quiz at the end of the semester.
Professor Rickman is an amazing teacher. She does not mess around when it comes to lecture content. There was a lot of information to take in, but only one (easy) group assignment the end of the semester, other than that no actual homework assignments. Show up to lecture, lab and study the information and you will be amazed at how much you learn.
Best biology teach at LMC. Her lectures are fantastic and you'll learn biology. Don't go for easier Danielle Liubicich friends who took her over Jancy regret how little they learned. Jancy clearly tells you how to succeed. She's a great instructor
LONG lectures, NO STUDY GUIDES FOR EXAMS. She has a fantastic personality, but her exams are difficult, lab practical question/answers are not clear. She's understanding and wants to help, but this class consumes your life. Will be repeating the course.
Rickman was cool. She gives good lectures, so don't buy the book! No homework - just 1 group project, 10 quizzes, 3 lecture exams, and a final. MAKE SURE TO PAY ATTENTION TO WHATS GOING ON DURING LAB. I didn't - and as a result my A dropped to a B in the class. Don't make the same mistake I did - pay attention, and you'll be fine!
DO NOT BUY THE BOOK! You do not need it! Tests and quizzes are based off the lectures and labs so study your notes and pay attention and you will pass.. Lectures can be long but you do learn from them. Rickman really wants you to understand the material. If you struggle in science classes I would recommend taking this one.
Outstanding lecturer. Challenging course. Tests are long but time is ample. Must take copious notes and read book, as well as study Khan Academy, other youtube sites to excel. Dream teacher for biology majors. Difficult class but no reason you can't do well if you want to. Few teachers have a passion like her. Good luck finding someone better.
Amazing teacher, one of the best ones I've ever had. I would totally take this class again. Take rigorous notes, or record her lectures. Don't listen to peers about not buying the book, and don't rely on them for knowing the material either. The book was heavily used and the class is challenging enough, but w/ her enthusiasm it makes the class fun!
Jancy is the best Bio teacher out there!! There's a lot of content to learn but she gives such good notes for you to go off of. Gives a whole lot of extra credit and gives great feedback. I wish I could take her for all my bio classes! Show up to class and put the work in and you will do just fine.
Great teacher! she's really nice and funny but she knows how to teach!! if you attend the class and pay attention to lectures you'll get an A because she makes everything so easy to understand.
Jancy is such an amazing teacher. She not only is caring but she can teach so well. She knows what she wants and will help you to improve yourself. Her main goal is to help you pass.
Lectures are speedy & tests are hard. No study guides, no reviews. Listen or you miss it! Write it down or you don't see it again!
Don't take Rickman for Bio 20. Lectures are handwritten and okay. But exams don't match what was taught. Extremely hard tests. Many F's, D's repeaters and withdrawals. She makes class more difficult. Big regret.
She is really funny and determined to let everyone understand everything. Has quizzes every week during lab but they're easy and really helpful for the tests. Tests are all based on notes so they're easy as long as youre there for lecture. Book isn't needed. She has also has you do a presentation in pairs but not that hard either. HAVE THE NOTES.
Rickman is one of the greatest bio teachers i have ever had. Her teaching is very clear and she's very enthusiastic about it. There are quite a lot of tests but if you take good notes and study them, you should do fine. Go to every class or you might fail. Overall a very good teacher!
I love Professor Rickman!! I took her for both Bio 10 and Bio 20 and got A's in both. Important to go to class/lab and take notes (no powerpoint, all in class notes). Shes caring and willing to help clarify. She wants to help her students. Exams are tough but shes a fair grader, as long as you put in the work to study. Available outside of class.
Jancy's an AMAZING professor. Her lectures are so in-depth that it's all you need to study to pass the tests. The tests are literally on everything that she lectures on, so take good notes. Didn't really use the textbook that much, which is fine since the lectures condense the text. Make sure to look over your notes and lab manual before next class
I thinks she is one of the best teachers, Her way to teach is fun.
Do not take Nancy Rickman for Biology 20. She writes extensive notes on board no slides. No test review study sheet. Loves to fail students. Several students got D or G grade with Jan y and have to repeat class. She is not going to help you.
Very rude and does not give study guides or drop any scores. Does not do any pre-test or group quizzes either.
amazing biology teacher, wont move on until everyone understands the material. i dont know if you have a choice of a different teacher, but even if you did, rickman is your best bet. she rocks
Dont take her. No Powerpoints does all by hand. Rude. Harsh grader.
Professor Rickman, is great in her lectures but she is a hard grader. Be prepared to take quizzes in her class. You can take notes but she does not allow them when you take her quizzes and tests. If you happen to be a DSPS student you should take all your quizzes and midterms and Final exams with them.
Jancy was a real gem. She understands that we aren't all Bio majors and takes that into consideration in her lectures. Really old fashioned. Won't bend the rules for anyone. Lectures are written out so must be in class to get the notes. 4 test, lab quizzes every week based on lab notes. Not too bad of a class. Really good instructor .
Majority of your grade is test based. No homework, but there is one group project. She is one tough grader, and if you screw up on a test really bad, then it will be very hard to bring it back up. If youre a good test taker, then this class is for you
Tests and quizzes are ALL based on the lecture. Lectures consist of her writing them on the board and elaborating on them. Take good notes, study them well, and you're almost guaranteed for a B or higher. There's a single group research project that you present in lab. Overall, feels like a high school bio class in terms of difficulty.
She is the best professor I have ever taken at any community colleges. She makes you work hard for your grade and actually have to study. No homework, all you have to do is when everyday after lecture just review your notes. You will pass the class with an A. Shes very caring. She is always ready to help no matter what.
Rickman is seriously the best tecaher you will ever see in community colleges. She has a good sense of humor, she is fun and respects her students. Her exams are hard but everything is right from the notes she gives you everyday and as long as you take your notes and review your notes your are gonna pass her class with an A.
Great professor. Go to class, take good notes, and study. For sure you will pass!!
"Students, raise your hand if you want an A in this class" *the majority of the class raised their hands. "Honestly, good luck with that." She's a tough professor. What's even awful is that extra credit is incorporated in the questions in exams. Extra credit isn't explicitly stated on exam, which sucks because you won't know how to earn them. :(
Jancy is one of the best professors I have ever taken at LMC. If you take this course, come ready to work. She doesn't baby anyone. She is very passionate about her subject. Complete her lab reports ahead of time and take them to her office hours. Utilize the Open Labs and review your notes every day. Her lectures are great! I rarely used the text.
She's a tough grader and wont have mercy for students. Take it with a different professor because she's just that awful...
She made biology so interesting!
Im still currently taking her class right now, coming into the class I never had an interest in Bio. She has completely changed that for me. Expect to work hard for your grade, good grades are given to students who put the work in for it and thats exactly who she is. I completely respect her as a professor and I couldnt have asked for better.
Hands down the best professor at LMC. She is truly passionate about biology, which makes her an amazing teacher/lecturer. She wants her students to succeed and encourages them to ask questions during lecture. The exams are 100% based on lecture so its pretty easy to get an A (if you arent lazy and actually study) She has the best sense of humor!
BEST TEAHER EVER! Totally love her. She is passionate about biology so she makes lectures interesting. Pay attention in class and study! She cares for her students and wants them to succeed. Madd me find bio interesting. Shes really funny. Lots of extra credit. Would take her every semester. Love her!! Easy to get an A
She is a very clear professor who will go over the material as many times as you need to completely understand it. She writes her own notes and her tests are exactly what is in the notes.
Great teacher all around! Makes you work for the grade you want to earn it also does not let you sit there confused.. just she wants to make sure you understand the material. Great energy and less likely to fall asleep in any lectures. If you want to learn and not just pass I def recommend Jancy!
Jancy has a lot passion for what she does which shows in her lectures, keeps you interested and will help you as long as you ask. Always willing to review materials with you if you need the extra help. Test is 75% lecture 25% lab so pay attention. She writes everything on the board so just copy it and you'll be fine.
Best professor I have taken at LMC yet. She makes it very clear that she does not give out grades, but you earn them. However, it's easy to earn that A as long as you show up to lecture and study your lecture notes. She makes biology so exciting and is always available to help. I recommend her to anyone looking not only to pass, but to truly learn.
THE BEST BIO PROFESSOR YOU'LL GET! no powerpoints, all by Hand and written on the board which GIVES YOU TIME TO WRITE IT ALL DOWN. Jancy is so enthusiastic and passionate about biology and makes you love it as well. she is a slightly hard grader on lab reports but it makes you understand the topics that much better. tests are EXACTLY FROM NOTES:D
Jancy is such an AMAZING teacher. She is very passionate about what she does. She has the most amazing lectures. Doesnt use PowerPoints, she hand writes everything on the board giving you time to write everything. All of her exams are based off of lecture notes, lecture notes are the study guides. Gives lots of Extra credit. recommend bio 20 w her
This is one of those classes where it's not an easy A, but youll know so much from taking it. Lectures were all written on the board allowing you to take notes as the professor writes it down. Professor really wants her students who strive for an A, get an A. Daily review of topics that were learned last class. Notes previous mistakes made
If you are taking any other hard class , wouldnt recommend her class very particular on her grading her exams are half multiple choice half written , although she does give good lecture notes when u take the test she rewords the questions differently then what we have written down. very hard class would recommend looking at another professor .
Jancy is a tough grader and a bad grade on an exam can bring your overall down by a lot. I do like how she does her lectures though. Theyre long and sometimes a little boring but I never feel rushed since she writes everything down by hand and I dont have to hurry to copy everything from a powerpoint. The labs are usually fun
Jancy is a great professor, but be warned, Bio20 is an EXTREMELY HARD class with very detailed material when she teaches. A few things: -NO Study guides -NO Homework -Tough Grader -Long, detailed lectures (no powerpoints, everything she writes, you write) -Exam heavy (you need to study to pass) Got a B, but it was WORK.
She a great teacher but there are only a few assignments and three test. The tests count for most of your grade and it is multiple choice and writing. She grades SUPER hard, but if you do the work before due and ask her about it she will tell you what you need. She will makes quizzes that have multiple right answers but one will be most right.
Professor Rickman is probably one of the best professors that I had at LMC. She lets you know that you're in a tough class, but gives you amazing advice on how to study! Not only does she provide clear and enthusiastic lectures, she gives you tools necessary to be a success college student as a whole. Study hard before exams and you should be fine!
One of the best instructors Ive had in college. She is very nice, hilarious, and is great at giving us extra help if we need it. Sadly, I was out of action for almost two months of the flu in the beginning of the year, but it seemed like she really cared about my grade and wanted me to study with her. I would take this instructor again! :)
Rickman is one of the best professors at LMC, she genuinely cares for her students and her profession. Her lectures are very thorough and she explains the curriculum very well. Although I am not a stem major, she made me love biology so much. She makes her lectures so fun and keeps you attentive. I would definitely take her class again!
Professor Rickman is truly one of the best professors that I have had at LMC, and surely the best Biology Professor. She really cares about her work as well as her students and it shows through her lectures as well as the effort & time she takes out to ensure understanding. The class was hard but I learned so much through Professor Rickman!
Rickman is a very straightforward teacher. Gives clear and easy-to-follow lectures. Your grade is primarily determined by just quizzes and tests, however. She gives decent extra credit on the quizzes but be wary that tests will count for a lot!
She is a great teacher who is always prepared. I personally struggled with the quizzes and should have studied more. She was amazing and I highly recommend her.
Very clear of her standards as a professor & tells you what you need to do to pass her class, so DO IT. Beginning of the semester she gives lots of labs but that leaves the rest of the semester to study and focus on test/quizzes. 3 test and 3 quizzes plus the final. She only lectures on what you need to know so it makes lectures heavy but clear
Shes a very tough grader. Tests count for most of your grade and it is multiple choice and writing. she is very passive aggressive. there are no study guide and any question you have will be answered with a questions. She will makes quizzes that have multiple right answers but one will be most right "trick questions ."
On the bright side, she doesn't give out homework almost at all: just tests and quizzes. Although, that can be a problem for some (like me) as well. When you take tests/quizzes, she blocks it so once you submit an answer, you can't go back to check. She's nice and I can tell she enjoys her job, it was a BORING class, and she doesn't round grades.
3 hour lectures along with 3 and 1/2 hour exams. she's helpful and nice, but you have to work hard for her class
Fairly easy. Almost everything needed is presented in her lectures/slides. Great energy and cares about the class. There's no HW, just labs and quizzes. Make sure to take notes and have them on hand. Effort is key. The quizzes/test- each question locked in and you cant go back, so take your time. Textbook not required, can read if you want to
I was terrified to take biology this semester, because my previous experience with biology hasn't been the best. I will say, though, I don't regret choosing Professor Rickman! I don't think I've ever learned so much from a science class. Pay attention & take notes on her lectures, because everything she says is on exams and quizzes! Overall, 100/10
Professor Rickman has a true passion for biology and for her students success. She always wants to make sure you have the right information and clearly explains everything. She keeps her lectures fun and truly applies biology to life. It is very important to show up for lecture and lab and be ready to learn.
she is very nice and sweet. The material is somewhat difficult so you really need to study everything she lectures on is on the test so you have to show up to class. she gives online quiz every week and the questions are very specific she is a great teacher and wants to help you learn. just be prepared because you have to study and pay attention
I was hesitant to take a bio class (I'm not the greatest at science classes) but Rickman really made learning manageable! Grade comes from the 4 exams & quizzes every week. Attendance is not required but if you skip lecture you will fall behind in material. Textbooks aren't used, although it can help as backup to understand material better.
Explains every subject in a clear manner
Lectures are clear and easy to grasp but missing them can make you fall behind. Lab is okay, however if your table group isn't competent, class can be quite dreadful.
I LOVE her lectures, she's fun and has a passion for biology. if you go to class and do your work you'll pass (: I highly recommend her class!!!
Literally the goat. So kind and caring, she holds such a high passion for biology that she makes anyone want to learn. You need to take good notes to pass, there's a lot of material that she covers. An absolute pleasure to have a conversation with (about biology or not), she will work with you if you have issues and help you as best she can.
Great professor, fun lectures! Attendance not mandatory but if you miss class you'll fall behind. Quizzes on canvas, 4 tests, 2 lab reports, group project. No homework but your grade on each assignment matters since the grade book is so small. No study guides for tests unfortunately :-(. I recommend to take her as long as you can commit to studying
One of my favorite professors at LMC, if you have the chance to take one of her classes, please do. You will thank me later. Her lectures are straightforward, and all material she has you take note of is what you will be tested on. No surprise questions. As a woman in STEM, I aspire to be like her as she is literally an icon and a girlboss.
She is a great Biology professor if you want to learn the basics. Very energetic and enthusiastic during her lectures making it entertaining to listen. Depending who you have as your group mates, makes a difference in class experience. Exams are easy if you study your notes well. Overall, fun professor and would take again if I could.
I am not strong in BIO whatsoever so I was a bit scared at first but professor Rickman was absolutely amazing. You just need to come to lecture and lab to make sure you understand the material. There is never any homework only 1 online quiz every week (they're super helpful and easy). She is amazing at explaining and offers SO MUCH extra credit.
She is the best professor I have had at the college level, I had her Intro to Biology in the spring of 2024. Every single thing on the exam is addressed in the lecture—no need to spend hours reading textbooks outside of class. She has a super kind and funny personality. She loves her career, and she always finds ways to show it.
Professor Rickman makes biology fun and engaging. Attend lectures and use resources like Unstuckstudy for study prep, and you'll do well. Exams are manageable if you stay on top of the material. Overall, a great class with a passionate professor.
I took this course in the fall semester and was a little nervous because I had never taken a science class. Professor Rickman is very passionate about what she teaches, she makes lectures entertaining. The exams are manageable if you stay on top of the lectures and labs, but she will make sure to include everything that will be on the exam!
IF YOU CAN DO ANYTHING FOR YOUR SELF AT LMC... it should be taking rickman for anything bio related. i love her to death. im not a good person with bio but im passing with a 95%. Live laugh love rickman
one of the best professors and she is very caring for her students. lectures were not super difficult as long as you paid attention and took notes during lecture.
Professor Rickman is an amazing professor! Explains very clearly and the labs weren't always too difficult and were very interesting and fun! I took her hybrid course with Prof Jill Bouchard for online lecture.
Rickman is a fantastic instructor who makes biology fun and engaging. Attendance isnt graded, but the class is based on 3 tests, final, and a group project with weekly quizzes. Exams are almost entirely composed of material covered in lectures. I missed a lot of class and passed, but it wasn't easy. It's an 8am class, so make sure you show up.
Professor Rickman made learning biology extremely easy to understand and memorize, especially for someone who isnt super strong in the subject. As long as you take notes during lecture and review them, you will 100% pass.
