worst prof I've ever had...worthless class
Made me lose any respect I had for psychology as a field.
after each class session I wished i had those 50 minutes of my life back
Dispised the class so much that I dropped it.
Blah.
no grading curve?! she's not too bright.

Easy, not very hard. I don't know what everyone is complaining about.
very helpful when i needed it. interesting class. liked her a lot!

I loved this class. Good teacher. Took time with students who asked for it.
class is pointless, teaching is terrible
Class is great. Teaching is very good.
Fun class. She was a bit loquatious, but had an excellent personality and was always willing to help. Very knowledgeable about her subject and a fair grader. Also very easy on the eyes.
No idea what everyone complains about. I have like 20 points of extra credit in a 300 pt class.
This was a really fun class (for a survey-style course). Intersting subject. Professor was well-prepared and enthusiastic about the material. I really enjoyed it.
I recommend the professor and the class. It was very interesting and well-taught,
She's a good professor but makes you work more than most 101 teachers. I recommend her for psych majors because you will be really forced to learn the background information.
Nice teacher, interactive and helpful. A little unfocused and off-guard at times, but that's cause she was a little new. She'll be really good in no time.
A very easy professor who gives lots of extra credit
Enjoyed the course very much. Has a good grasp of the field. Very nice. Helpful.
She sucked.
I really liked this prof. She made the topic accessible and interesting. Great class.
Had her for both 101 and 102. The classes are very easy, with tons of extra credit in both. Always available to talk to and the lectures are pretty good also. A great prof.
Very nice. Interested in helping the students. Interesting class.
Loved the class. Interesting lectures, and she was really, really nice.
Thought the lectures were very well organized and interesting. I wasn't all that interested in psychology before. Because of this class, I might major in it. Highly recommend.
What a great class.I learned a lot and have found it to be very applicable to the world around us. I recommend her. Very nice teaching style.
She worked hard to bring a lot of material into line. Loved the class.
thought she did a great job of making psychology relevant to our lives.
Good course. She presented topics iin an interesting manner.
I really thought she was a phenomenal teacher! She brought a lot of outside material into the class, worked very hard to make sure everything was presentable, very helpful and had us over to dinner at her house! How nice:)
I felt that I really learned a lot about psychology. Lectures were well organized and interesting. I'd definitely recommend her to others.
Not a bad teacher. I did learn a lot about psyc (more than i prob wanted to know). One piece of advice: TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE EXTRA CREDIT!
Fun class! Excellent teacher.
Whata great class. Very interesting topics, incredibly nice, helpful teacher.
Very easy class. She's a good speaker.
This was a very practical and interesting class. Recommend it.

Enjoyable class.
Great teacher... she really tries her best to help you out... it's a shame her tests make the class unenjoyable... especially when you are able to comprehend everything gone over in the class and the reading, but can't do better than a failing grade.
Very boring lectures, just as good to study from the book than show up for class. Read the book and do well.
Fun class. Very applicable to life.
Nice prof and interesting in-class stuff. Tests are scantron and mostly test definitions. Going to class is a good idea and not an unpleasant experience, but skipping occasionally doesn't hurt.
This is the hardest 101 class you will ever take. Lectures are boring and irrelevant, quizzes are disproportionately hard compared to lectures. Don't take this unless you are prepared to do an extraordinary amount of studying in to get an A, which you may not get because her quizzes are only out of 25 points and comprise the entire grade.
This was actually pretty difficult for an intro psychology course. Her lectures are good and she demonstrates relevant material, but the quizzes have tough questions that are sometimes misleading, and go into much more specific information than her lectures indicate.
this class sucked. buder shapiro is annoying. she tries to make things fun but all anyone ever does is sleep. going is pointless.. just read the book and prepare to master it. the quizzes are rediculously hard. take another professor for this class.
Very interesting course. I really enjoyed it and have learned a lot.
Go to lectures because some stuff done in class is on the quizzes and can get you a few extra points; bring a laptop because she goes pretty quickly. Read the book and do the study guides she posts. Do ALL the extra credit she offers! Good, approach person. All quizzes are multiple choice and final is multiple choice plus one essay. Fairly easy A.
Good class, good prof
Don't take this class if you can. I'm a psych major and I've taken four classes before this one, and have gotten A's on all of them. Her class is not as easy as it may seem - her tests are very random (she asks questions about statistics) and her study guides are not helpful at all..I did them and still only managed a B average. AVOID
Very helpful and clear. Makes the subject interesting with personal anecdotes. Easy to study for her quizzes (gives study guides). Also offers lots of extra credit (especially if you attend class often)
Her lectures are hit or miss (they're either amazing and you learn a lot, or completely pointless because she asks "what do you guys think it means to be stressed?!"). The grading scheme is a little harsh: 2 tests and a bunch of essays (where they all total the value of 1 test, but all of the essays are easy As). Overall, it's an easy A class.
Her lectures were boring and quizzes contradicted the study guides provided.
Taking the final tomorrow. Easy 101 class, review the guidelines provided by her through reading textbook and you will be fine. About 10 points of extra credits will be given.
Professor Shapiro produces engaging lectures, her Quizzes are fair, and I was fascinated by the material. Class is very similar to COGS 101 (which is also really good). I would definitely take any class with her again, she shows that she cares deeply about the well-being of her students. Great experience, made me want to take more Psych classes.
Quizzes are not difficult as long as you read the textbook (follow the learning objectives posted on Blackboard). In our class, Clicker questions were used often at the beginning of the semester but this died down towards the end. An A for my class is an 86%. Definitely would take another class with Dr. Buder Shapiro.
She's sweet and fun to listen to during lectures. To do well on the quizzes, make sure to read the textbook and know the vocabulary, also know the lecture material. Final exam is basically all the quizzes meshed into one exam.
86% is an A so that's pretty straight forward. Her lectures put you to sleep but must attend because her exams have questions based on lectures, and that info isn't in the textbook. she gives extra credit if you go to class towards the end of the semester. really nice and sweet person and will help you out if you ask for it.
Read the textbook and go to lectures. The class is at 9:30 but you probably should go because she puts inclass activities on the exam. Mini quizzes are not too hard if you read the book. The exams are made from the book and inclass activities. The final is made of half previous exam q's and new ones. Go to class near the end for extra credit.
Her 102 class is great. She focuses a lot on in-class discussion. It's definitely a class you'll need to attend, but lectures are actually interesting. Study a bit for the midterms and you'll do fine, and there's many ways to rack up extra points.
Jane is great, but for a 102 class, theres a ton of homework and lengthy papers. Plus the material is a snooze. I would skip this course.
Expected better of a professor who is well regarded in the department. Was surprised by ineffectiveness to communicate and amount of assignments. Classes were often uninteresting. Material was conceptually easy but class structure affected difficulty.
She is a nice professor, but not a very good lecturer. The pace of her class was too slow and made it hard to focus. She can totally cover more interesting topics as long as she spoke faster.
This is a solid choice for a humanities credit if you're interested in psych - you do have to read the textbook a decent amount and make sure to go to the lectures because there are graded mini quizzes and she'll do spontaneous extra credit. You can't get by without doing anything though, make sure to actually look over stuff before the tests.
Lectures are boring. She talks very slowly and it's hard to pay attention. However, getting an A is easy if you read the book. Come to class she sometimes gives extra credit opportunities, and some of the videos we watch come up as exam questions.
Dr. Buder Shapiro is a real one. If you show up to class when no one else is really there, she'll give out extra credit. Her tests are so easy if you study for a little while, and the homework assignments take 20 minutes tops. You don't even need to get a 90% to get an A- and EIGHTY SIX will suffice! She loves her job and is super chill. Love her.
A large part of your grade is comprised of 5 question multiple-choice quizzes on each chapter (1 chapter a week). If you screw those up, you're done for. Lectures are really boring so I stopped paying attention early have been doing just fine. Just read the book, look at the TA materials, and do all the extra credit assignments possible.
After reading her ratings, I was hopeful that this class would be fairly easy, even if it was a little boring. However, Dr. Shapiro fails to make it clear what you will be tested on. She has a study guide, but this only covers maybe a third of the exams. Additionally, if you miss a class you will likely get a 0/3 or so on a surprise iClicker quiz.
Dr. Shapiro is a very sweet lady! She goes fairy slowly, making it a bit hard to focus. Her exams are pretty much nothing like the study guide: you basically have to read the textbook thoroughly and pay attention in class. 87 is an A and she gives a lot of extra credits though! Her mini-quizzes can sometimes be a bit difficult as well
Super easy A, didn't study or take notes, just went to class. I love professor buder shapiro!! so sweet, cares about her students but is busy so not available too often
Prof Shapiro is very engaging in lectures and uses a lot of great examples to help simplify large concepts. Her tests are challenging and require a lot of studying. There are only a few of them a semester so they cover a lot of ground. She is never available outside of class and rarely responded back to emailed questions.
Shapiro is honestly such a sweet lady. Learned a good amount in this class, but pretty text-heavy for an intro course. iClicker quizzes held about once a week, so attend on those days because they count for points. Tests are content heavy but if you study from the guides she posts on Canvas you'll be fine
Going to Shapiros class on zoom every morning was so calming. She should do ASMR honestly. The chat was always super hype. Watch crash course if you don't want to read--John Green's less attractive brother says everything you need to know.
Amazing professor! Highly recommend! Very knowledgeable and passionate of the material and really nice and understanding. She always responded to emails within a day and was really good about posting the recordings and lectures. Tests were not bad as long as you pay attention in lecture and read. Highly recommend Dr. Shapiro for PSCL 101!
You don't need to attend the lectures to pass, but I recommend going for the mini quizzes. Very approachable, very clear. Read the textbook and you'll most likely get an A.
Kind teacher. Slow, repetitive but definitely test on what she emphasizes. Quizzes every week on 1 txtbook unit but give clear guide+very easy. Test all MCQ except final where essay Q released beforehand. Participation recommended(free extra credit) Whether from crazy, sleep deprived kids at 10:30 or the teacher's just too nice- the chat's funny
I loved Dr. Shapiro! She is really caring and provides a lot of opportunity for extra credit. Her grading system had three tests, one final, one MC quiz every week, and some homework (though not a lot was graded). Pro-tip: the quizzes are important! Since there's not many grades, one bad score means you have to work extra hard on the tests.
I loved this class. The workload is light, grading is clear, and she gives plenty of EC opportunities. The exams are long and short on time so make sure you know your material. She showed us very interesting videos, had guest speakers, and cared about our feedback. She is a wonderful person and she has a calming aura to all those around her.
Buder Shapiro really cares for her students and is accessible outside of class but doesn't give back tests. If you want to see what you did wrong (you should since the final has past questions) you'll have to meet withe her individually. This may be because it was online but her class was very difficult to pay attention to. She gives out lots of EC
interesting class and very nice person
Read the textbook and you will get an A. Tests and quizzes are multiple choice and she tells you what you need to know for the test. Attendance is mandatory if you want to get the extra credit iClicker questions. Cut off for an A is very low (86), so getting an A is practically guaranteed. I never even paid attention in class and had 100 pre-final.
Very easy class, exams are basically vocab quizzes, know the key terms and you'll get the A. Show up to lecture cause she gives a little every other class just for using your iClicker. Shapiro never said the quizzes are open note but at least this semester everyone had their laptops out when taking quizzes. Easy A
Go to class and you will get extra credit points with your i clicker. Tests are fair. Come to class and read the textbook and you will be fine. There is a research study component that is required to pass the class.
I just learned that the cutoff for an A was an 86%, which is beyond generous. There are in-person quizzes before each chapter, but people leave right after them and some skip the other lectures. You can get good grades by studying the textbook a bit for quizzes and before the test. Buder Shapiro also makes her exams entirely multiple-choice.
