I've had 3 or 4 classes with Jane, and I just need to say she's great! She's so much fun, expects a lot from students, but helps them achieve her standards. I'm looking forward to grad level work this coming semester!
She is kind of unclear in what she is teaching. She talks more about what she likes and dislikes about things rather than teaches us the new information. She is really funny though. SHe is bitter about her divorce though.

very hard
The notes you take in class (at least for Shakespeare: Tragedies) don't matter for anything. Class itself was really boring.
I loved her! She's really nice and fair. She's tough on assignments, but you learn a ton from her especially in the Shakespeare Tragedies class.
She is a very nice teacher, always willing to help. She is a hard teacher, but in the end the hard work pays off.
She's a good person but a horrible english teacher. I took one of my paper's from her class to a friend of a friend who is an editor for a book publishing company, he said a first grader knows the english language better.
She's very unclear about all of the assignments...especially the final. Hated her class...never ever want to take another one with her.
All right guys. Seriously this is one the best classes I've ever been in...but it busted my brains it was so hard.
Very insightful & interesting. She grades hard, but is fair. Go to her and ask how you can improve & she'll tell you exactly. Recommended.
She won't teach writers she doesn't like, even if they are considered great. I had a terrible time writing essays for her. I've gotten A's on my papers in all my other classes but she gave me C's and B-'s. Don't take her class.
UGH! I wrote my papers and she would rip them apart even when I spent forever on them! Take Eddy for this class not her! She expects way to much! this was supposed to be an intro class and she made it seem like we should know it all already! NO WE DONT KNOW IT YET THAT IS WHY WE TAKE THIS CLASS!
This was by far one of the hardest classes I have ever taken, and it's a lot of work, but I learned so much. She's a great professor, always willing to help. She grades hard on papers, but it's fair, and it only improves your writing.
This class is very hard and you'll have a quiz almost everyday so make sure that you keep up with your reading. Essay's are hard too and you better just plan on hitting the writing center because otherwise you won't do very well at all. Good prof. though and u will learn a lot!!!
This woman takes pride in seeing students fail. She rips apart every essay and works femanism into everything she talkes about. If you are female you will be better off than the guys, they all seem to have lower grades. Her daily quizzes are crazy, she asks the smallest things you won't remember.
This teacher is one hard prof. I have never failed an eng. class until i took her and on top of that this class is a lot of work!!!
Feminism at it's worst! Almost failed my paper because I used the word "Mankind" instead of "People-kind"!
Femisim at its WORST
She is incredibly hard, and not at all fair in her grading, if she decides she doesn't like you from the beginning it's almost impossible to do even remotely well. Also if you don't like Shakespear don't tell her, she lives for his works.
Just say "No"
dropped it.
The harshest grader ever and when you try to make your papers and tests better by using her comments she still gives you a horrible grade...she picks favorites right away...and if you're not one just plan on getting a horrible grade!
I Totally agree with the previous rating. She goes much too fast trying to get across so much information that students cannot take notes. Knows the information well but needs to learn how to teach it.
Does a good job of going over papers
she's super hard, and crazy.
Dropped Both! There is no way to make this instructor happy. Avoid this instructor like the plague! She is an interesting person to talk to, and she seems nice. But, I could do nothing right in her classes.
This teacher is the hardest grader. When you get your papers back and re-do them using the comments she wrote, you still get a bad grade. You don't really do much in the class but she is a hard grader. Don't take her!
She is a really hard grader on essays. She tells the same saturday night live joke repetitively. And she doesn't help you in class, but out of class she's alright in helping. However, overall, She was a horrible teacher.
I had to take care of my baby brother while my mother & sister were in the hospital. I emailed all my professors the assignments due and let them know. She then counted all the assignments I had emailed to her as late and dropped their letter grades to an F. All the other professors were incredibly understanding and supportive, not her.
It's been a few years since I had Carducci for a class, but although she was hard--wanted you to know the content--she was willing to spend extra time going over any of it. And during class, too.
She's very very tough, so if you are thinking you want a fun lit class, take it with someone else if possible!! It's demanding, but she is very helpful. You can email her or meet with her and she will help in any way possible... so take initiative and go see her, it can't hurt. Also, don't slack on your 45-minute presentations, go above and beyond.
Her classes are HARD, but you will get so much out of them! Her summer Shakespeare is the best way to take that class. I wouldn't take 111 with her!
Tough but fair. Assigns a lot of work, including a 45 min presentation. Very helpful in and out of class. She answered my large volume of email questions clearly. Pushes her opinion on the class from time to time, but usually if discussion is going poorly. Again, tough but worth it.
Wonderful teacher, one of the best. Relaxed, fun, easy if you do the work, and very helpful. I had heard a girl in one of my lit classes saying bad things so I was afraid to take her, then I enjoyed her class so much and realized the other girl never showed up for any of the classes I had her in. Moral : Do what's expected and you'll love it.
definitely take the comedies instead of the tragedies: they are actually funny! most of the work is in-class discussion. there are two large reading journals that kinda suck, but they really draw you into the text. in two classes with dr carducci i've never gotten better than a B on her exams (mostly Cs), but got got a B for the course (A in 290).
Prof. Carducci is clearly not for the weak of mind. One must be on top of his/her game in her classes. She is a bit on the feminist side which is annoying at times but she is fair to everyone. She is a extremely difficult grader, but it is great to improve someones character. Don't take the class if you are not planning on working hard.
I could tell right away that though her classes are challenging, she is incredibly fair and skilled in her profession. Carducci is one of the best professors at WSU hands down, anyone who doesn't like her clearly doens't care about their education and just wants an easy A. Students like that don't deserve to be in college.
If you're not her favorite, then good luck to you. Grades with impossible difficultly, and is very opinionated. Is quite rude when speaking to you outside of class (office hours) and doesn't care about anything but her class (if you try to explain something, she will cut you off mid sentence and in turn, say it is your fault) DO NOT TAKE HER!
This prof. is very rude. she's not very helpful, and if you're not her favorite, drop because you will not pass with the grade higher than a c. DO NOT TAKE HER, thke the guy (hacker). he's much nicer, and a lot easier.
Terrible teacher!! mean, rude!
A feminist to the first degree. I think she had a bad experience with a man in the past - because if you have something that dangles between your legs, she wont give you the time of day. Rude, unhelpful, and MEAN!
Firstly, Carducci is not interested in helping you succeed. She is rude, a little bit cruel and will treat you as if you're stupid for asking a perfectly legitimate question. I've had many difficult professors, but she is the first one I can honestly say I learned nothing from.
She was completely useless when trying to figure out somet things for her online course, and she didn't even know what she was talking about. She basically just kept saying that I was doing something wrong.
You're expected to show up to class and work and prove yourself. She knows her Shakespeare and is willing to teach you as long as you're willing to learn. Her expectations are high so just be prepared!
I enjoyed her lectures so much! However, when it came to the papers I received a very low grade and when I asked for her help on the next ones she told me it looked great then would hand me back a very low grade. Upon asking again all she said was "you didnt word it correctly" without telling/showing me how it could have been better.
You need to work really hard in this class! Her standards are high and I was lucky enough to seem to understand what she wanted on papers and exams (which are all essay form). But people who didn't fulfill what she wanted did not do well. She is a very nice person but a VERY hard teacher! However, I passed and learned SO MUCH!
OH My God....I had her 20 years ago and she was the absolute worst professor I ever had. She is a nasty, uncaring woman and I did not enjoy her class. The worst!!!!!
Online Shakespeare class. Professor was in CO dealing blackjack the entire time. Does not bend or adjust rules for anything. I have two bruised and sprained hands and still she gave no give on rewrites or due dates. Take her at your own risk.
Carducci is the equivalent of an Ivy League professor. That being said, she is a difficult grader especially on your writing skills.I believe the reason for all of these negative comments is because her teaching style and what she expects of students is above and beyond what they are willing to give. Great teacher but be prepared to be challenged.
She is VERY nit-picky. I took her online class, that part wasn't bad. But she didn't post grades, I understand that it's English... but EVERYTHING need to be perfect in your essays. It's ridiculous. I've only gotten some sort of B on papers, and I've even gone to the writing center for help.
Carducci is unreasonable, capricious in her grading technique, disorganized and plays favorites.
This woman is the hardest grader I have ever encountered in my academic career. She offers no constructive criticism, and she is not open to new ideas. If you take her, be prepared to do tons of hard work and have none of it appreciated, as well as get poor grades for what would be considered excellent work by any other professor.
She is one of the hardest professors I have ever encountered. She makes class fun and challenging, which is refreshing. I hated how harshly she graded everything but she knows her material and makes damn sure you know it too. She is quite amusing, although she can be a bit overwhelming at times with her expectations. Do not take if you're lazy.
This woman makes sure you know whether or not this will be your major or minor. I have always been excellent at English, coming into her class i expected to be worked very hard and took all the assignments seriously and work diligently on everything she mentioned. I failed. On top of that she verbally insulted my intelligence. Do not take her.
Look, the class is difficult and a lot of work -- but she is fair. Her lectures are extremely interesting, and the discussions are intriguing and engaging. Do NOT take her papers lightly. Give her what she asks for; if you don't, you will fail. This class will let you know if you are an adequate writer or not -- if you can't write, you won't pass.
She is one of the hardest graders i've ever had in my entire school career. She was very unclear with what she particular wanted in her papers and very nit picky about her grading. I used the writing center and still failed. Seven people had to drop out in my class because of the way she graded. Super harsh teacher.
Does not give examples on how to write papers enough and expects students to just know. Terrible with grading papers, unclear with what you did wrong
She is seriously the hardest grader I have ever had! She treats you like you are an English major and expects you to write like one. Your whole grade is based off papers so if writing is a weak point for you, you will fail. Half of my class dropped the class and she even forced two of the students to drop. Avoid her at all costs!
does not give her time of day up to help students out. does not provide information or clarification towards improving your paper.
Dr. Carducci gets a bad rap. Shakespeare is a difficult subject, and it's a 400 level class. She expects your work to reflect that. However, she's a very nice person, and she is always willing to help her students. I learned so much from her! I wish I could have more classes with her, she is now one of my favorite professors.
AWFUL!
I felt like she didn't even respect her students. She was very rude and inconsiderate.
Great professor! Dr. Carducci is incredibly kind, helpful, knowledgeable, and passionate about her field of study. She also genuinely cares about her students and wants them to succeed. I highly recommend her classes!
Be ready to work if you are taking a class with Dr. Carducci . She is a very tough grader, but she knows what she is talking about. If you are confused or need help with an assignment ask for help. In my experience she was very willing to help. You have to work for the grade you want. Want an A? work your ass off.
Work hard for a good grade. A LOT of homework, its easier if you already know how to write well, but you can learn. Keep in mind shes more about grammar than content. GO IN TO SEE HER! Shes harsh in her emails but in person shes nice! She just wants to see you try. I would recommend her, but if easy is your goal rather than to learn, switch.
She's passionate about what she teaches but she's a really hard grader. Get on her better side right away and really try to participate. She's willing to help you if you're struggling and always answers emails immediately.
Horrible. I would not recommend this professor for anybody. Horrible directions, hardest grader I have ever had, and inconsiderate.
I did so horrible in this class and I actually enjoy English. She's a really hard grader and expects to much from you for an into class.
She's not a bad prof, but she's a very, very tough grader and definitely requires very sophisticated writing. If you're not ready for a challenge, do not take her class.
WORST CLASS OF THE SEMESTER. I took her asynchronous class & she was completely stubborn about helping me understand my assignments thoroughly, the 3rd week in she told me I should just drop the class and take a "w" or take an "F" at the end of the semester. My advisor even thought that was ridiculous. Avoid her at all costs. Very condescending.
Dr Carducci is an awesome professor. Yes, she is a tough grader, but, that just means that we all suck at English. You will go into this class thinking you know your language; but you will come out even better. She is helpful, fair, and responds quickly to all emails and grades fast. I promise you will know your stuff after this class!
Worst professor I have ever had. She takes a 100 class like a graduate class. Avoid her if you want a good GPA.
She is wayyyy too hard of a grader for an English 111 class. NEVER take the online class.
Other commenters are bitter because she's a tough grader. Grading aside she is an incredibly intelligent professor and knows what she does. She is immensely helpful if you go to her office hours and she actually cares about her students. A good professor does not mean an easy A. She makes you work and makes you learn.
Prof Carducci is very smart and fun to talk with, but she is a tough grader and expects excellent work, some may argue a level of work beyond an intro english class. If you decide to take her class, prepare for a tough work load. She may be harsh at first with grading but as long as you improve you should do well.
Welcome to college. Dr. Carducci's class requires actual work. If you put forth the effort and ask for help you will do fine. She is a very nice person once you get to know her. She responded to all my questions within an hour through email. You will definitely know how to write better after her class. It will set you up well for future classes.
I attended WSU 24 years ago. The only name I remember from there is Jane Carducci. Way to go, Dr. Carducci. You're the best. Good grades are not just given, people. You have to work hard for them.
She can come off very rude when grading. She does know how to give positive criticism.
She is so unreasonable its ridiculous. The toughest grader I've ever had, thinks she has something to prove. Don't take her class, just don't.
Dr. Carducci is hands down the worst professor I have dealt with. She makes her students feel inferior and acts like she has something to prove. She gives rude criticism and does not try to help students succeed. She is by far the toughest grader and can not give you clear answers. Avoid her at all costs.
She is very difficult to talk to. She doesn't listen to her students' interpretations, even if they are backed up by the facts. She failed my entire class on a test because we missed a small, insignificant part of a story.
One of the worst teachers I had. She just tells you to go to the writing center if you need help. Acts like its graduate program class. Has to be perfect to her to get an A or a B
Dr. Carducci is a very harsh grader and she can come off rude at first. However, if you make appointments with her or email her your questions, she'll give really good feedback. I do feel that this class is very difficult but work hard. Don't expect a good grade if you don't want to work for it.
Dr Carducci is amazing. I took her English 111 hybrid class and throughly enjoyed it. Before this class i had little interest in English and she made it fun. Because we only met 4 times during the semester, attendance was mandatory for all meetings. Her expectations for the entire semester are clearly on D2L. She gave very constructive feedback.
The only good thing about English 111 hybrid is that it is only 10 weeks instead of the full 16. Carducci is a great person but an awfully harsh grader. I would only recommend this class to people who consider themselves as strong writers.
Please please please do not take this professor. I did exceptionally well in English in highschool, it was actually my favorite class. I wrote my first paper for Dr. Carducci and got a D. As a freshman who was entering an intro level English class, I did not expect it to be so difficult. She is by far the RUDEST, MOST MISLEADING professor
There are papers due every week. She grades them super hard. Almost the whole class dropped the class. Multiply assignments due through out the week. Completely online except a 4 days. She is really nice in person and very helpful in person.
This professor is tough and she expects a lot from you, but if you do the reading, participate in class, ask questions (be specific when you want help) & show that you care about the content you can learn a lot & pass. It's clear she's passionate about her content and if you do all of this is she can be very nice and class discussions can be v. fun
Probably one of the worst teachers I have had in my student career. I received As in all of my high school English classes and expected to do well in this class, but got bad grades on almost all my papers. She is no help when you ask her questions about homework or grades or anything.
Professor Carducci is incredibly intelligent and passionate about English. She wants you to do well. She is a hard grader, but her expectations are clear. I would recommend going to her office hours and the writing center--she likes to see that you are making an effort. Do all of the readings and in depth. This class was discussion based-really fun
Carducci is terrible!!! I have always been fairly decent at English but no person has ever made me feel more stupid. We went from a class of 24 to 12 in a semester because everyone was going to fail. She sets expectations and then when you make them, she sets the bar higher. Her expectations will get you a C at best.
This is the worst teacher I have ever had. When you ask her for help on papers she is not willing to help she will send you to other people to get help. She grades extremely tough and picks out every little detail. Tells you that you aren't going to pass her class but isn't willing to help you to improve your grades. I recommend never taking her.
Jane Carducci was the worst professor I have ever had. She is unorganized and is not good at updating grades. She is very rude and does not care to help her students. She will pick your work apart and give you minimal feedback, what feedback you do get is not helpful at all. Would never take her again or recommend her.
Definitely not my style. So much reading and assignments and you never know what she wants. She does give feedback but its usually useless. Don't recommend .
I recommend you take anyone else but her. Her online class is very disorganized.
If you have registered for this teacher, go back into your eservices and pick a new teacher. She is the worst teacher I have ever had. She will call you ignorant and stupid, but won't tell you why. She will make you withdrawal from the class, or fail you. She will not help you with papers, if you ask her to. She will sends you to other places. HELP
This is the worst professor at Winona State, don't take her!!!!!!!
I took this as an online class and there was a lot of work every week. There was a lot of writing involved and the instructions weren't always super clear. lots of times you have to post and then comment on other people's posts. You do get docked points if you turn stuff in late. Lots of parts to every assignment
English has always been a strong suit of mine, but this class has made me think otherwise. She in an incredibly tough grader even when you think you did exactly what she was looking for. There's multiple long assignments every single week. Be prepared to post to discussion boards, have unclear essay assignments, and have online workbook problems.
NEVER TAKE ONLINE ENGLISH. She is so hard of a grader and if you don't follow the rules she has in the syllabus she will fail you and make it so you can never pass even if it was a mistake and forgot to look over work before turning in. Also isnt very helpful.
Never, ever take this professor. Worst professor on the planet. If you have different views than her, youre automatically wrong. If you are a male, you are automatically wrong. If you are both, well than, you failed the class already. She will tell you that your work is irrelevant. She gives no good feedback and is only there to bring you down.
Dr. Carducci is definitely passionate about what she does, but her expectations are near impossible. I took an online introduction course, and I worked relentlessly for the whole semester. This was definitely one of the hardest courses I've ever taken simply due to work load and grading expectations. Make sure you're a strong writer.
Dr. Carducci has unrealistic expectations for students especially for an intro level online class. If you miss one assignment you will automatically fail the class. The hard part is, there is so much work that its hard to keep on top of even for the best student. I was spending 30 hours a week on this class alone. And be ready to spend your own $.
Mrs. Carducci is the hardest teacher I have ever had. She gives little to no feedback and has no office hours available. She will send you to the writing center for help and won't take the time to help you. Also when sent to writing center, I received a worse grade than a previous paper. Highly don't recommend taking her classes.
Super tough grader. Lots of homework, reading, and online exercises. Assignments are not clear, which is difficult when trying to follow the rubric. All in all find a different professor !!!
Ive seen so many negative comments on here about Dr. Carducci but after having experience with her in her ENG111 course, she isnt what the reviews made her out to be. She was very kind when I needed help and she was a overall a nice & respectful person. She does grade a little hard, though. But I do recommend her!
OMG, I just did a google search to see what happened to the worst professor that I ever had. I had her in 1990 at Cortland. She was horrible in every way! I wish she had stuck to blackjack and I might have chosen a different career path. She really turned me off to English.
Carducci was a great professor but she hosts a tough class. There is plenty of reading and writing (usually 3 discussion boards a week plus other homework). You definitely earn the 4 credits for ENG111. She gives great feedback if you ask for help and she isn't scary to talk to! I learned a lot, but it was a lot more work than expected.
She wasn't clear on any of her assignments and her feedback wasn't helpful. She also had a semester-long book defense project, 4 essays throughout the semester, along with her web connect assignments. She wasn't helpful in her feedback and her rubric and grading criteria were very unclear.
Great professors, I highly recommend them. If you get a C, you're not trying or just not gotta simply be better.
