Very easy! But she is super nice and very helpful. Fell asleep in class many times, but I still manage to wake up and laugh at her jokes. Take her class and she will show you the meaning of easy class is!

Jane Dawson is one of the nicest and is by far the most enthusiastic professor at ISU. She loves geology and has her own way of making a fairly bland topic pretty interesting. She is very understanding and is always willing to help. The tests are pretty tough so study hard! HIGHLY RECCOMENDED.

Class subject is very boring except for volcanoes and earthquakes. She does a good job at trying to make it fun but c'mon, rocks are boring. She has study guides that help a lot. Do homework, extra credit, and try to make the few (2 pt. easy) quizzes she has.

Jane is amazing. If she gives you the opportunity to be on the advisory committee, take it. You will get to know her one on one and she is awesome. She is def one of those professors that I will keep in constant contact. Also, loved the class took a boring sub and made it fun and exciting. I don't think I ever saw her w/o a big smile on

Jane is great! Very easy and tells you what you need to know for the exams. Always telling Jokes in class and is fun to be around. Went on a field trip and she let our TA's drive university vans down a hill into a river that was had overflown onto the road--it was a blast!

Jane makes geology one of those classes students look forward to. She makes the class interesting by being a little silly. Nonetheless, she is a great teacher. Her powerpoints are clear enough that you don't necessarily have to read the textbook. Also, take the lab that goes along with this class. Her TAs are also very good.

Great lady, she let me into the class late and I had no problem catching up! Study a little for tests and go to class to take quizzes, you should have no problem getting an A. Definitely a good class to boost your GPA, and it was interesting too.

She is o much fun! She cracks at least 10 jokes a day. Though the content is boring, she makes it fun. Love Her!

She is a GREAT teacher ever! I really enjoyed in this class. The material might be a little boring, but she made it more fun. The exam came from pp slide and pretty straight forward. Not hard class!

Jane was a great teacher. She somehow made things as boring as rocks possible to enjoy. Great lectures with a lot of good examples and pictures from the book to explain concepts better. You don't need the book to do well, but it helps a lot for studying. Show up to class take notes, and you're guaranteed an easy B.

Jane is a very good teacher. She is good about answering questions and her door is usually always open. Attendance isn't mandatory but she does have pop quizzes. All the exam questions come straight from the powerpoints. She is good at explaining things and is funny enough to make class enjoyable. I didn't buy the book and still did well.

I did not find her class very difficult or very easy. Also, I was not a Geology fan. However, she tries to make every class interesting. Attend all the classes and you get extra credit. Be sure to do the extra credit assignment. It just takes a few hours but can definitely lift your grade.

Jane is by far one of my favorite professors at Iowa State! She is very kind and is incredibly interested in the subject! TAKE ALL GEOLOGY CLASSES WITH HER! Her classes are very easy and makes learning fun!

Don't be fooled: this class is certainly not "rocks for jocks." If you want an easy A and tend to dislike science subjects then you may want to rethink this class. She's super nice and upfront about her tests but the tests are still bafflingly hard. I squeaked by with a B+ with the extra credit. Pop quizzes in class are a big part of your grade.

I took this class thinking it was rocks for jocks. It certainly wasn't that. To do well in this class, complete all the homeworks, be present for attendence quizes(you should get all the points if you show up), and do the extra credit. Jane is definitely an expert and explains the subject well. Also complete the extra credit.

Delightfully awkward! She's so funny and a really good teacher. You can afford to miss a class or two but when you're there and pay attention she gives great info and knows the subject well. Her PPP quizzes are easy points and she's a lenient teacher, dropping your worst test grade at the end of the semester. Highly recommend her!

DON'T BUY THE BOOK. Jane is an amazingly quirky professor who is really passionate about Geology (her excitement is the only reason I didn't fall asleep during class every day) The tests are a little rough if you don't review and understand the information but not impossible

Jane absolutely loves what she is teaching. Her homework is very easy and she does offer extra credit. Jane does randomly give out small pop quizzes which are incredibly easy, it just means you need to be in class. You do not need the book for this class, just fill out the study guides before the exams. She does drop your lowest exam score too!

Jane is awesome! For sure one of my favorite professors. I was nervous about the class being boring but she is so excited about everything it makes is interesting! She always has random cat pictures to keep people interested and has the FUNNIEST sense of humor. Love her, great class.

Each day you go over the powerpoint, which she also posts on blackboard. Lectures get boring, but she tries to spice it up with funny cat memes. Don't buy textbook, I felt powerpoints were very thorough.

Jane is adorable. Don't get the textbook, seriously. Posts powerpoint online. If you attend lecture, she is so cute and gets excited, and that is the only reason I wasn't sleeping. Random in-class bonus points for attending. Drops the lowest homework score and lowest quiz.

Jane is the best! She gets so excited about her subject (especically glaciers; get ready) and it's honestly inspirational. Tests aren't terrible. Powerpoints are enough (textbook not necessary). Expect in-class quizzes that actually make up a good portion of your final grade. I also highly recommend doing the extra credit assignment.

I took this class Fall 2014 and had a great experience. Jane is a very friendly and approachable professor. I really enjoyed her class and her positive attitude. I wanted to take more geology courses just to be in her class again.

You get to keep your exams, so if you know someone who took it and still has the tests USE THEM! She copy and pastes a lot of the questions. Lectures can get boring but she does random quizzes and the online homework you can do as many times as you want so theres no reason to get below 100% for that. Tests aren't too bad if you can memorize

Prof. Dawson is one of the best at ISU. The grading criteria is very clear so you know you what you need to do to get the grade you want. Show up to class for her pop quizzes, you can use help to get the right answers, and go over the powerpoints and studyblue before tests and you'll do fine. Also unlimited attempts at homework.

She's a fine professor. Just show up and get those participation points. They can either save or hurt your grade, so show up. The tests are simple. You just need to review the power points before you take it.

Prof. Dawson is pretty cool. She likes cats and rocks. Don't buy the textbook, you don't need it. Attendance not required, but you should go to class. Easy exams if you've been to class. Easy homework once in awhile online. She can be kinda funny sometimes. Really easy class!

Really Corny

She is an awesome lady who is passionate about her subject matter, the course material is really dull if it isn't something you are particularly interested in, but if you show up and put in some effort you should be able to get a good grade.

She is quirky and loves to include cat memes in her lectures. You don't need the text book, slides are all on line, you have 8 homework assignments and she drops lowest score, as well as lowest test score. Tests are super straight forward and lets you keep them for the final. Just be sure to go to class because she has short quizzes in class

Jane is super cool. I would definitely take her again. The lecture is pretty boring, but you don't need to take notes or anything since everything is already on blackboard. Do not buy the book because you will not need it. She does have attendance quizzes, but they are super easy. She also throws out your worst exam so thats a bonus.

Talks really fast and crams a lot into one class, but really great and quirky. Puts all of her lessons on blackboard along with study guides and answer keys. Easy homework and tests, all multiple choice and matching. Quizzes are like 2 easy questions. Even if you aren't interested in the material, she makes it easy to learn and do well.

Best prof ever. No need for book. Don't have to show up to class and can still get a b+ but lose easy participation points

Everything in the class comes from lectures (which are never boring in my opinion). Didn't use book at all. She prepares us very well for tests. Attendance isn't mandatory, but she sometimes has 2 or 4 point pop quizzes that are easy points.

Took this class to meet a science elective requirement. Easy A. Notes are all online but you should still go to class since there are quite a few pop quizzes which can really hurt your grade if you miss too many of them. Tests are easy if you review your notes. Many of the test questions can be found on Quizlet.

Entertaining and very nice professor! Prepares you well for tests if you show up to the lectures, just have to review notes. Also sends out letters if you're doing well in the class just congratulating you. She will also give out prizes for doing well on the tests, she is awesome!

Literally the best professor I've had at my two years at Iowa State. So sweet and really cares about what she's teaching. There are four exams, and the final consists of 15 questions from the past tests (which you keep). You can retake homework until you get 100. Drops lowest test and homework. Dr. Dawson has a wonderful personality and true interest in her lecture material. She finds great ways to make things interesting for her students as much as possible. Watch out for quizzes throughout the week - they are fairly straightforward if you've been following the material.

Jane is a really great teacher for this class. Honestly, read over the slides for the exams and you will do great. She does top hat in a few class periods, you don't know which ones however. Lectures get kind of boring but just study well enough for the test and you're fine. I would take it again!

Professor Dawson has been one of my favorite professors at Iowa State. The class is made up of super easy homework assignments and in class quizzes that you'll get 100% on if you're there. She is super nice and will let you make things up if you ever have any conflicts. Tests can be hard but not bad if you study a little. Loved her and this class.

Shes a great professor who knows what shes talking about. You really dont need them lectures but there are random quizzes so you do have to go Incase there is one. The professor is so nice and genuinely cares about the students. As long as you put effort into learning the material youll pass fine.

Dawson is really nice and knows her stuff well. The class is easy if you are good at memorizing things but if not then I wouldn't recommend it. You will learn a lot of valuable information. The hw is an easy A, the in class quizzes are an easy A. The exams require studying and memorization.

Dawson definitely knows her stuff and makes material easy to understand. The exams were lowkey harder than I thought they would be, but if you study the lecture slides, you should be fine. You can retake the weekly quizzes as many times as you need to so those were super easy points if you do them.

While attendance isn't required, she tends to give 2-point quizzes in class at random during the semester as a bonus for those who show up. It can be tempting to skip class, but if you do, it's really unlikely you'll know what's on the test.

I really liked this class. It was very lecture heavy and I took a good amount of notes but you could tell she worked hard to explain everything in detail and even added memes to make it more fun. The tests are pretty difficult and make you think. She adjusted the tests for us students which was really nice.

Online, 15 weeks. Class made up of easy homework, easy quizzes, and 4 hard tests (no cumulative final when I took it). Everything is based on lectures, of which there were A LOT. If you just stay on top of them, take notes, and STUDY using her study guides, you should be fine. She has a great attitude & is really kind & interested in her subject.

As a future teacher, I respect Jane a lot. She makes the most out a 100+ student lecture hall and adds in cat memes to add some humor to her lectures. There are random pop quizzes but they are not hard. The exams are content heavy but if you study you can easily get an A. I wish I could have her for another class

Content is dull and hard to follow honestly but that has nothing to do with Jane. Shes friendly and organized and you can tell shes passionate about what shes teaching. Her class is very easy going and collaborative.

This class I thought was going to be very easy, but it was tougher than what I expected. Overall the professor was very nice and caring. She has great cat memes to break up the lectures! She was very nice whenever I contacted her with a question that I had. I would take a class with her again.

Jane is a great professor. Passionate about the material, gives fair tests/assignments, tries to make lectures fun, and is very understanding when you need help/support. You can tell professor Dawson is passionate about what she teaches. Very laid-back class, be prepared to take notes and listen to a lot of lectures. Attendance isn't mandatory but she frequently gives out pop quizzes that you'll easily get 100% on if you are present. Jane is incredibly sweet and understanding towards her students. She loves cats and will use little kitty memes in her slides to cheer people up and help them understand. Only Issue is it is 100% term based. A ton of vocab, which can make studying hard, but honestly the tests are not difficult at all. Pretty easy and fun class.

I have never liked geology or science but Jane made this class so bearable and amazing. I absolutely loved having her as a teacher and she was so helpful when I missed classes and needed some extra help. If you have this professor, interact with her and have friendly conversations! You wont regret it, she's amazing.

Overall, I found this class and Professor Dawson to be very enjoyable. Class typically consisted of going through a PowerPoint lecture. Every couple of weeks, there is a pop quiz consisting of a few questions that is open note. If you are paying attention, it is very easy to earn 100% on them. Exams are all multiple choice.

Jane is great! She uses cat memes to relate to the topics. She is very passionate. We were offered exam study sessions and I would recommend going. Exams are 50 questions multiple choice and are organized by topic. If you are in Kildee, bring a sweater (even in warm weather).

MINERALOGY 315: Jane is one of my favorite professors I have ever had. She is so charismatic and genuinely wants the best for each student. She gives you everything you need to succeed, and her door is always open for more questions. She is quirky and very knowledgeable. I plan to keep in touch with her in the future! Love this professor so much!
