Teacher is a Liberal. Likes to hear herself talk, and wants people to laugh at her jokes. Tests are hard.
Jane was so cool. She's spunky and it was a relaxed class. Kept me interested in a subject I could've cared less about. Not a whole lot of homework and as long as you try you get full points on the assignments. She is fun!
Got an A. Unorganzied and kept changing the syllabus. She demands alot out of her students and there's ALOT of reading that you must do. When you need her help she makes you feel stupid and even displays your essays to the whole class and points out your mistakes, she means it to be constructive criticism but it makes you feel more like an idiot.
Jane is a fantastic teacher! She has a way of remaining impartial while presenting philosophy in a very thorough, yet unbiased way. Jane has a great sense of humor and is quite entertaining. Althought she is a hard teacher (presents an abundance of info and has high expectations of her students)her classes are enjoyable and very worthwhile.
My favorite teacher so far!!!She's kinda hard, but you'll learn a ton. Plus she's got a great personality and makes it fun.
Jane is fantastic. I felt that her teaching style was very conducive to helping everyone learn. If you don't understand the material it is no fault of hers. Help was available, though rarely needed. TAKE THIS CLASS! (P.S. I can't believe somebody used "she is a liberal" to rate this professor. Had you taken this class you'd know that is irrelevant)
A fun class. Pay attention, don't make her repeat herself, and enjoy her teaching. Her lectures help you really understand the reading.
Very nice, jokes around to make the class funny. Tests and assignments are difficult and require a lot of effort.
Very helpful will break material down so even an idiot can understand it. Keys to success- do the reading before class so you understand/ask 4 help with the lecture. The material can be hard but she will go 1 on 1 with you if you need it. I'd recommend taking this course from her to anyone i found it very interesting.
Jane is an amazing teacher. The best I have had thus far. Her teaching style is a mix of deep rational thought and humor that provides a very challenging and fun class environment. After taking her Intro to Philosophy and Intro to Ethics classes I decided I wanted to be a philosophy teacher. She provides amazing insight on anything you can think of
Hard class but VERY worth it! Jane is such a good teacher. I learned a ton and really enjoyed her teaching methods. She is humorous and intelligent which makes the perfect combination. Its a lot of work. You must do the assignments. I promise if you put forth the effort, and attend, you will leave so happy you decided to take this class!
Dr. Drexler is an awesome teacher! She is very clear and makes complicated information incredibly accessible. Also, I can't stress enough how great she is about helping you get context for the material. She is so nice, so available, just such a cool person. Am bummed her classes fill up so fast, can't get into her PHIL 1250 this spring.
Jane Drexler is excellent. She is very committed to the success of her students, and provides a lot of opportunities for extra credit. The expectations were very clear, the material was well-covered. Highly recommended!
I took an online class and found it to be a lot of reading and work. Expectations are high with little feedback. The class seemed more like a higher level class than what it was. Sarcasm was evident in many email and replies to students. I was thrilled with he subject prior to the start of class, and that quickly faded as the semester went on.
If you're looking for an easy way out and an easy A, then this isn't your teacher. However, with that being said, if your looking to put forth a little work (not absurd amounts) and actually work to learn, you'll find this class to be one that you learn a lot from. The principles I learned in this class have helped me out in my life a lot.
Jane is a very down to earth teacher. Philosophy it's easy to understand, but she makes it more comprehensible. If you pay attention and do what is required it's not a problem to get a good grade. She is way fun. Recommended.
Very good teacher. Chill and down-to-earth. Excited about teaching subject. Helps explain things so you understand. Expects a lot from your brain. Works in books/reading packet A LOT. Hard class, but if you do what you're supposed to, pay attention and take notes, you'll do just fine.
Jane may be a little informal but she really does a superb job of teaching. I am not a philosophy major but this was one of my favorite classes I took at SLCC
Online class, organized well. There is a lot of reading, a lot of writing, and it is very time consuming. You have to do the work, put in the time, and actually think to succeed. Do this & Dr. Drexler will give you the feedback you need to succeed in class. Dr. Drexler expects a lot out of her students, but she puts a lot into her students as well.
There were a lot of discussions in this class but as long as you stay on top of them, this class is easy. Assignments are very clear and there is no questions as to what she expects. This was an easy A for me.
I took this class online, she is very well organized and expetations are clear. There is a lot of reading but it is online so you don't have to buy a book. Somewhat critical of grading but will still give you full points if you put forth the effort. I would recoomend her.
You can tell she really loves to teach this class but is EXTREMELY critical with grading! I would spend so much time on a paper and she wouldn't even give me a C on it!
She is so passionate and involved! Best online course I've ever taken at SLCC!
The online class was structured very well. You can tell she puts a lot of time and effort into her lesson plans.
Great teacher! Obviously knows and enjoys her field. Course is divided into sections and she gives out a checklist at the beginning of each section. As long as you follow instructions; watch the lecture videos and read the given texts, you'll do just fine.26
Very excellent and passionate, like a tertiary educator should be. Jane is pretty informal, the lectures and videos are easy to follow and understand. There's no textbook (online, anyway), and she's a phenomenal professor. I'm not a philosophy major, but I'd take another class from here. You have to work for it, though.
This class was the most confusing. The professor is very helpful with her power points and voice overs, but the assignments and tests were unbelievably confusing for me. I failed the first exam, so I withdrew from the class after the first month. Environmental Ethics just wasn't for me. The concepts are just very difficult to grasp.
If you have the chance to take a class from Jane, DO IT. She is completely clear from the onset as to what is expected. She provides excellent outlines of her lectures. She is an amazing lecturer. Her logic and reasoning class was SO INSIGHTFUL. I am taking her Env. Ethics class online and it is awesome. I just wish she taught more subjects.
It was a good class. I would have liked to cover more philosophers, but she could only fit so much into the class. She was not my favorite Professor ever, not even my favorite this semester, but she is a good Professor that puts a lot of effort into her class lectures. I would be happy to take another class from her. No text, printed readings.
Good Professor, okay class. I learned a fair amount about fallacies, but I don't know if I would chose to take the class again. I really liked Professor Drexler! I just wasn't supper interested in the subject matter.
I've taken a ton of online courses, and this one was by far the best I've ever taken. If your even mildly interested in philosophy or the environment, just take this class. Super awesome teacher and very clear and concise online class. Jane does expect a lot from you though, so be ready to spend some time on this one.
Jane was a great teacher. I took her for for PHIL 2300, and thought it was great. I'm really interested in the stuff, so I loved the content. You'll need to login a few times a week to postrespond on discussion boards, then answer quizzes based on the packets and videos assigned. I loved the class, learned a lot, and would take another of her's!
Jane is an excellent teacher. She loves the subject and it really comes through in her teaching. She explains philosophy in a way that makes it easier to understand, which is impressive considering how challenging some of it is. Highly recommend her. She has you buy a little book of her slides which is way cheaper than the book SLCC pilfers
Pay attention to the course schedule so you won't get any surprise quizzes or homework due. She gives a lot of resources to help you but sometimes it can be overwhelming. Ask questions, do your best and turn in the work. Consider teaming up with a classmate to learn better. Overall she is funny and does a good job preparing her lectures.
The class was engaging and I learned a lot. The class wasn't too hard or too easy, however the work load was a bit extensive I wouldn't reccomened this class if you are taking other difficult classes.
Horrible Professor. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS FROM THIS PROFESSOR! This instructor does not have a grasp on the subject matter, more or less reality. I e-mailed Phd doctorates from NYU and Columbia University throughout the duration of this course to verify material being taught was correct. It wasn't. Instructor makes things up as she goes along.
Worst Professor I have ever had. Horrible experience. Tests and Quizzes almost every course period. 20% of time lectures. Tests are not objective. Grades are based on instructor's leftist feminist social justice warrior emotional state. Disappears for days & a week and tells us to just take a vacation or study period, Ughh I paid for class time..
Jane is really passionate about the course material, and it shows. She is enthusiastic about the topics and she kept the course interesting. At first, the course seemed like it would be complicated, but she is just very detailed with instructions and she was great to work with. Any questions were answered clearly and quickly.
Jane is awesome. This is not the class to take if you want an easy A. That being said you learn a lot in this class and I would absolutely take it again. She is very helpful and wants all her students to understand the lectures. She is very helpful and the best part is you only have to do 12 homework assignments out of 20 for the semester.
Drexler is really entertaining and very knowledgable. She had a great approach on how to teach philosophy. We watched cool movies and had really interesting class group work. Show up to class prepared (readings completed) and ready to engage and you will do well. Would take again. Very clear grading/expectations
I took this class as an elective because I thought it sounded interesting. It ended up being very difficult and more time consuming than any other class. The material is sometimes hard to grasp and the essay questions on exams made it almost impossible to score 100%. Drexler simply grades too hard This class broke my 4.0 streak in my last semester.
Jane is amazing. She is passionate about philosophy and that is clear in the lectures she gives. You do have to read some pretty heavy texts, but it's definitely bearable. She hilarious and nice and I would take another class from her in a heartbeat.
Jane's Online class is the one of the best online classes I have taken. She is well organized, and provides lots of Videos that help you understand the material. She is very willing to help out. You just have to ask. One thing I didn't like was how hard her tests were. She really makes you work for it
I think the teacher forgets that this is an introductory class. She gives so much homework. Her tests are difficult. The only good thing about the class is that she makes lectures interesting. I missed only 1 lecture and I spent all my time concentrating on this class and I only got a C, when I get A's in all my other classes.
Passionate about Philosophy. Engaging lectures. A lot of reading. Must understand material to pass exams. Has multiple projects and one term paper. Would take again.
I loved her lectures, she was always very energetic and interactive and made learning philosophy very enjoyable. I really took away so much from this class. She didn't have a textbook, but you really had to work for your grade. The homework isn't too bad and you will pass if you show up to class, take good notes and study the material.
One major group project that was time consuming and not productive. Little projects due through the semester, especially at the end. Will help any way possible if you don't understand material. Passionate. Tests are easy if you understand material.
This is 2300 level class, that feels like 5000. Not only is there so much work to do, but get ready to challenge your inner knowledge of philosophy. This class has taken 80% of my time this semester and I have 3 other classes. Jane is great, but needs to remember that students have other classes. I would expect this type of coursework in PHIL5000
There is mo much work for Phil 2300 ... For an online class I find it harder to do all the modules she requires .
I dont know how she got this 4.2 rate taking her class is so much work for an online class. I understand that we have to be accountable but OMG this is so far one of the time consuming class I've ever taken and she is a tough grader. All her module requires a lot of work and her exams are also hard. I am not taking a class from her again.
She is all over the boards with her lectures and she never really explains what she is talking about. (She expects you to know the content after her power points) Her exams were the most difficult I have ever taken. For the homework she grades based on how much content there is not about the actual material which is absurd.
Overall I really enjoyed Environmental Ethics with professor Drexler. I felt that she was a hard grader but if you put in a little extra effort you'll get an A just fine. Very interesting and important topics. This class really gets you thinking.
Prof Drexler is most professional and really engaging with her curriculum. I really enjoyed her class and felt like her teaching manner allowed me to develop and actually learn the material rather than just memorize key words or phrases in an attempt to "check the boxes". Her assignments were thoughtful and most engaging.
Jane Drexler is passionate about her interests and career at slcc. She is easy to work with as long as you are willing to communicate openly. She seems to genuinely want her students to find their own fascination with the subject she is teaching and encourages students to think outside the box. I enjoyed this class.
I found that Dr. Drexler was an inspirational professor because of the simple fact that she cared. She made it her mission to make the class engaging and went out of her way to schedule a video call with one of the persons of interest we studied. Overall engaging class! You will get out what you put in, only take this class if you participate
Jane is very passionate about what she teaches and our class discussions were great. You have to work for your grade which I honestly enjoy. The only thing is that her PowerPoints are not organized at all and its very hard to go back to go over the material that was taught for the exams. Also her lectures were WAY too rushed and hard to follow.
This is one of the most incredible classes I have ever taken. Dr. Drexler teaches this subject with incredible passion and understanding, she is extremely organized and fun to listen to. Her lectures will not only change the way you see your present, but your future AS WELL AS your past. This class truly changed my life. I'd take it again if i coul
Dr. Drexler loves what she does and is great at making philosophy exciting and engaging. You have to attend class and pay attention if you want to pass. There's a lot of reading and short essay responses (usually 2 a week) but the readings are interesting and the responses write themselves. Take this class if you want to think. Take good notes.
She has an amazing passion for philosophy which she brings into the classroom and through her lessons, passes that passion to her students. Would definitely take a class from her again!
I would not take this class or this professor again, nothing personal against her, she actually seems to care and she does give good feedback, but she is a really tough grader and for someone who's strength is not Philosophy then I wouldn't recommend her. No extra credit opportunities, almost impossible to get 10/10. Get ready to reeeeeead and read
Jane is an AWESOME professor. You can tell she has TONS of knowledge about logic and reason, and the way she presents it is really well received. There is a LOT of information in this course, but all of it is incredibly interesting and very applicable to real life. Jane is hilarious and she brings a laid back atmosphere to an intensive course
I took this as an online course. Everything was clear about what was expected. We had two weeks to complete each module. Definitely take the time to listen/watch the videos given, and start your Initial Post on time for full credit and follow through with discussions with other classmates' IP, buy the spiral bound book (it was very useful).
I wasnt a fan of the comment at the beginning of class that said (this is not an exact quote) you should complete required and not required readings so you dont sound ignorant :). That kind of set the tone for the class for me and I just wasnt a fan. The course was fine though I think the textbook needs to be done again, or at least of page #s
I took Environmental Ethics online from Jane Drexler. She had a well organized modules, and interesting material for reading and watching throughout. Her class followed a predictable format but was challenging and interesting, she was easy to reach via messaging and had very fair grading
Very knowledgeable about philosophy and the environment. She had a great structure to the class. Made it pretty fun too. all online.
This course was well put together. One thing, I disliked was the modules only stayed unlocked for a week at a time, didn't allow you to skip ahead or fall behind much. Promotes you to be punctual and on top of things. Participation in case studies can impact your grade. So participate. As long as respectful of deadlines the professor was lenient.
I appreciated the effort that Dr. Drexler put into her classes, but required reading was not presented in an up to date form, which was frustrating and made it difficult to follow. I enjoyed her lectures, as they were thorough and relatable. It seemed to take Dr. Drexler an unreasonable amount of time to grade our tests/case studies; frustrating.
I took Phil 2300 Summer. Needless to say, Summer classes are intense. Jane, Is a phenomenal instructor, the care, and interest she has invested in the course deeply reflect her investment in her students. The course itself is not hard the concepts, will shake up your values. I wish I could have taken this in class to hear her expound. A+++ Teacher
Broke down difficult concepts into essentials and made them easier to understand. Very helpful and easy to get hold of outside of class. Understanding when "life stuff" got in the way of deadlines. Clear criteria for how to do well in the class. Expects arguments to have cited examples so you have to actually read and learn a thing or two
i missed the first day so it was kind of hard to figure out the grading scale, but once i talked to her it was all right... gives you quite a bit of freedom to choose witch asingments you want to take, but kind of pointlessly knocks off points sometimes.... she is also one of the funniest teachers I've ever had.
Nobody gets a perfect score on anything, which is silly, she grades annoyingly on everything but the content can really affect the way you see the world, which is great. She does know what she is talking about and doesn't show bias against people who disagree with her.
The lectures are enjoyable, but when it comes to the good amount of homework she assigns she's NOT clear on what she wants you to do for the work. I'm a straight A student and multiple times she'd come back and tell me to scrap a paper and completely redo it, typically refusing to grade my hard work "5 hours, 7 page essay..."
I love Jane's passion for philosophy, but amount of homework for a 1000 level class was outrageous. Felt like she had no concept of the amount of time a student has. Would rush through powerpoints and felt like there was no time to digest any information. Wish she would've slowed down and realized less is more. No textbook was nice, lots of reading
The nice thing Jane does is she gives you the choice on which homework assignments you want to do. She is a little rough on grading and doesn't give you full points just for trying. She has three tests which are pretty difficult, but she keeps you interested the whole time and is a fun person in general.
Jane is one of the best professors I have had at my time at SLCC, and this is the best online course I have taken. While this class is challenging, I feel that it is very rewarding and informative! She has lecture videos which are easy to understand and follow along with, and you really leave the class feeling like you've learned a lot!
Jane has been one of my favorite teachers ever! A lot of work, but totally worth it. You can tell she loves teaching by how much she helps her students. Lectures are fun and interactive- even for an online class! Get ready to have your brain hurt by all the philosophical dilemmas. 100000000000...% would take her class again!
Of my, 4 classes I spent an ungodly amount of time on this *PHILOSOPHY CLASS*. She wants you to make a journal post and marks you down if you comment on different days so you have to log in on multiple days which defeats the purpose of an online class. I am working the hardest in this course and am barely passing with a C.
Dr. Drexler has been one of my favorite professors so far - the most comprehensive and organized online class I have taken. DO NOT procrastinate because the assignments take quite a bit of brain power. Take lots of notes from her recorded lectures, buy the packet (too much to print), highlight key points when you read & you'll do fine. Great class!
Jane is a great professor, just be prepared for a lot of reading, her lectures help and many of her tests are based from them, but if you don't read, you're going to struggle. There is a lot of homework, however I feel it was proportional to the content. Prof. Drexler is quick to respond and willing to work with you. Would recommend.
Jane assigns too much work for an introductory class I have more work in this class than the rest of all of my classes combined. It has made me decide that I never want to take another philosophy class ever again. Often times she takes weeks to grade assignments. Her canvas page is a mess, difficult to navigate. She seems technologically illiterate
Jane is a really great professor. Although I had an online class I am glad she records her own lectures. She explains complex philosophical concepts clearly and makes them easier to understand. She is really nice and super passionate about philosophy. The class is more difficult than I thought it would be but I learned a lot! Jane is great.
I would highly recommend Professor Drexler; she has a deep knowledge of, and passion for, the material, she cares about her students and wants to help them succeed, and -- a real upside during the COVID-19 pandemic -- she has significant experience with online teaching and creates good online courses.
She will work with you as long as you put in the effort. She handled & provided one on one with me during covid great.I was going through some things & couldnt catch up, she guided me through her class, I am so thankful for her. She responds quickly on canvas, very organized, and very detailed in her presentations. Its an educational easy class.
I fell in love with Philosophy because of Jane Drexler. I think about this course all the time, I wish I could go back and do it all again. Amazing professor, absolutely passionate about philosophy, and also makes it a ton of fun. 10/10 recommend!
I love the layout of her online classes. She has the modules separated by month. Basically once or twice a month on Sunday you will have an activity or two, discussion, and exam due. You have all month to watch the video lectures and complete them though. This is the second class I've taken from her and it's great! The topics are super interesting
This class was pretty difficult for me. I'm a straight-A student and got docked many points on a lot of assignments. I feel like I lost a lot of points for dumb things like my discussion comments not being inspirational enough. Also every assignment is practically an essay. The course in general wasn't that hard, just a lot of written assignments
Her canvas is super easy to navigate, you get to kind of pick and choose what assignments you do, and the lectures are entertaining. You can tell she put a lot of effort into making her online course as use friendly as possible
This was a pleasant class. The lectures are clear and concise and the readings are relatively simple and manageable. All material on tests is adequately covered in class. She is engaged with the students and, yeah, even though it was a phil course that lacked in person discussion, I quite liked it!
I could tell she's very passionate about her subject! She's thorough in her teaching and provided extra materials for those who wanted to learn more. Canvas was always updated timely and in a way that made sense. She wasn't great of a communicator, and faulted me for miscommunications. She also discouraged phones and packing up before class ended.
She's a great teacher! Everytime I come into class, I'm actually interested in the lecture. She's one of the main people running the program for philosophy teachers, and I can't express enough how cool of a lady she is. She explains philosophy in such an engaging and interesting way. 10/10
Her Canvas page is very easy to navigate. My biggest recommendation is to start assignments early and become familiar with the concepts, as this makes later work much easier. Expect plenty of discussion posts. She's a kind teacher who provides excellent feedback.
Jane is a nice person but a horrible teacher. Her slideshows are all over the place and super hard to follow. For an intro class she gives out way too much homework. The exams are massive minimum 58 questions as well as 3 writting sections. She grades extremely harsh and bias if she doesn't agree with your opinion. Tons of writing assignments too.
This course was okay. I felt that her assignments always felt really long. Theirs a lot of writing assignments and her exams were like 60 questions plus 3 essay questions. She wanted very SPECIFIC answers and almost always docked points. Her lectures were interesting I will say, but she hated seeing phones and wouldn't let you pack up early lol
Dr. Drexler is extremely passionate and gives great lectures!
Jane is really passionate about philosophy which made class fun and interesting. She is a really harsh grader and all over the place with lectures. Her PowerPoints have VITAL information on them and there is no access to them on Canvas. I struggle with ADHD so it's hard to focus and take note and actually retain any of the information she's teachin
