If you can handle two tests and a paper as your whole grade, best teacher ever!

Really good, actually knows history very well!!!

really knows her stuff, GOOD
She reminds me of Ms. Frizzle from the magic shcool bus. Really enthusiastic
Best teacher I have had so far! Loads of extra credit opportunities!
A total nut case! Kinda hard....but if she likes you...you
easy grader
Great lady, still remembers my name three years later
Most interesting teacher and class I ever had, highly reccomend, touch of crazy
very enthusiastic about history, always willing to help, best i've had @loyola
Great class. Time flies, but don't expect an A.
Jane is the best, always there for help, brilliant
All I can say is WELTANSCHAUUNG!!!!!

Best Teacher ever
Very wacky, but smart and funny and a great teacher
Very very interesting. Go to every class, take tons of notes, and memorize the review sheet. You'll get an A.
hottest body on a old lady that ive ever seen. weltenschauung baby!
amazing enthusiasm! a little tough but well worth it
Great teacher, interesting class.Tests can be annoying, but go to class and you'll do fine.
crazy lady...knows her stuff. goes on lots of tangents. not much work overall, but everything comes at once
I knew she was on crack the first day...when she told us jokes about projectile vomit. Wears purple to class. Extra credit all up in this ****. Do the work if you want to to well on tests.
interesting class where you learn a lot and have chances for extra credit, but way too much work, insane review sheets, awful tests, expects you to spend more time thinking and doing work than you actually have, goes way too fast in class
take her for the experience - She will make you laugh your ass off. Her looks are right off the streets of NY - in her hooker boots and bright makeup
her class is really nerve racking. tests are massive and class is all over the place. But, if you generally go to class and make an effort she will help you out. Extremely nice
She's amazing! You just have to have a sense of humor to take her class. I learned so much in that class, but the tests are very, very hard!
She is the best tecaher at Loyola. Deffinately take her class. i never took my book out of the wrapper, never did one bit of homework, but there is a massive study guide for the midterm and final. I ended up with an A......Do extra credit
WOW, what a Psycho! She either loves you(only if you play lacross)or hates you. She knows alot about history, but teaches the course as if you do too, and you ultimately wont learn anything becuase she has NO teaching method. Can someone say drug addict&#
Great, funny, wacky, professor. I loved her side stories, comments, and clarity of material. Her tests can be hard but study and DO EXTRA CREDIT and you'll be fine. Take her...fun class.

AWESOME!!
She was extreamly jolly and jovial. If you were absent she wouldn't lower your grade but said "you prolly had somewhere better to be". She even called me at my house to let me know how well i did on the final.
People who love her are the people crazy jane loves. Everyone else is nothing to her. Has no time to help you and expects too much. Can't remember all the things she puts on the exam.
Very funny lady, makes class kind of interesting. However, I did not learn a thing, and her teaching is awful...Take her if you want a laugh, are already a history nut....oh and if you play lacrosse.
Terrible. If she doesn't like you, you don't do well, regardless of whether you know the material or not. Never gives back papers so you have no idea how well or poorly you did.
She is Great. She is the type of person who is overwhelming to talk to just because she knows so much. If you show her some effort, and take a little time out of your schedule to talk to her, either about class or life, your grade will def. be helped ou
Awesome professor! Not good at giving tests though. Can do very well if you had a European History and/or Church History class. She knows her stuff very well. Very fun in class. Can suck up for extra points if need be fairly easily. I like the class

Insanely smart woman, very nice despite all the negative comments posted here about her. If you like history in general you will LOVE this class.

absolutely awesome! there was never a day i was bored in class...claims to be hard, but isn't that bad. she's incredible intelligent. i came away from the class knowing more than i ever thought i would!
jane edwards is crazy! class is very entertaining, she is really smart, midterm is difficult...take her, she makes western civ interesting
I absolutely love her! She is the most intelligent person I have ever met. Watching her teach is like watching an I Love Lucy episode. She is so entertaining and great. You will learn more than you even knew you could. She is an amazing person!
Crazy Jane is awful. I hated going to her class. She is so smart that she knew what she was talking about but none of her students did. If you need organization in class, do not take her. Has no rhyme or reason to her grading.
class was NEVER boring-- she cracked me up! but i found her grading really hard, especially when she didnt give things back on time. i got a bad grade on a paper, and though she gave me another chance (yay!), i had to do it during the summer.
Edwards is by far the most interesting teacher I have ever had. She thoroughly covers the content and she knows it so well. You really don't have to do the readings because she doesn't give quizzes. Make sure you prepare for her midterm though! DEFINITELY take her!
not that bad. Just write down everything she says and youll have no problem preparing for the test since the notes are all the test is on. Great teacher though, you really do learn alot.
Makes a big deal about giving you correct unbiased info, but she is wrong alot and lets her own views influence. Try questioning something she says in class-she will blow you off or laugh at you. Doesn't have enough time for her ownn students. Teaches gossip history. Arbitrary grader.
Crazy janes def crazy, makes you feel really dumb, if you ask a question it probably wont be answered, tests are ridiculous all essays with no more than 15 for them, however LOTS of xtra credit so u can come out with a B
Crazy Jane Edwards...she doesn't seem to care about attendence, but if you miss a class you really will miss a lot. Your entire grade is based on a midterm (5 identifications, 2 essays), an essay, and the final. She makes things fun, but I've never been more stressed. Do the extra credit!
Crazy but entertaining. xtra credit, which you'll need. Tests & 1 paper are entire grade but review sheets so you know exactly what to expect. Tests are always on major points in class so if you have ever showed up you will know something. LOT of reading but don't do it, just know review sheet
She is a nut. no serisouly she is mentally unstable...but she will make you laugh. If you get in good with here, the class is a joke. SHe lets you basically make up any bad grade wihth extra work and a little favortism. I didnt get over an 80 on any te
The only class in college that I ever enjoyed, in 4 1/2 years.
Touched my life. Inspired and gave me confidence in my abilities. Thank you.
She should be institutionalized. There are better teachers in the history department, avoid her at all costs.
Oh Crazy Jane Edwards!! Gotta love her! She's so eccentric and comptletely out there! It's something that i've come to appreciate and look forward to. Her class its ALL NOTE TAKING so pay attention! she doesn't give HW (DONT DO THE READINGS BY ANY MEANS!!) the only downside is her 12-15min short essay midterms. other than that she's a good time
She's nuts but she's hot!
She is absolutely out of her mind which can make class interesting. However it is impossible to adequetly prepare for the midterm and final. Not recommended unless you are ok with studying 20 hours for tests.
She is hilarious because shes crazy, crazy in a fun way, class will never be boring, the midterm and final is kind of annoying but trust me you will stay intrigued in this class. I love crazy jane.
She definitely lives up to her name crazy Jane! Class is fun, she loves what she does. Her outfits are hilarious! Class is actually interesting and fun. The midterm and final may kill you but those are the only tests all semster! Only one paper, lots of extra credit available. No pop quizzes. Shes always available for help. You dont have to read!
Jane is nice, but throughout the semester it was impossible to know where you stood, grade wise. The class was interesting, but, although I learned a decent amount, and she's a good teacher, her grading policy/assignment policy was terrible.
Fairly easy class. She definately keeps you awake. I had a C+ midterm that went up to a B+ final. I had to take mad drugs to study for the final though. So much information required for a good grade (which I found out she demanded after the midterm) and I do well in history to begin with. Definately recommend though she's a great lady!
Crazy Jane is great. I didn't do well in her class in the end because I didn't take the midterm, but it's nearly impossible to fail this class. She's very funny and personable, and she's willing to help you. She wants you to succeed.
She will try to scare you in the beginning, and you will have your reservations after the first day BUT her class is my absolute favorite, she is the only person I know that can make history interesting she is very helpful and always invites you to visit her during her office hours and if you do she will give you hints. No quizzes is alot of fun.
Midterm and finals are impossible.. you will have to study for at least 5 hours a day starting a week before the test. She gives you 10 minutes to write"who, what, where, when, how, and historical significance" for each of two subjects. The problem is you run out of time and you dont know what subjects shes going to pick out of a list of about 60 terms
Crazy Jane is awesome. If you bring her treats (she LOVES chocolate) and are nice to her and TRY to succeed, you will do well. Hint: do ALL the extra credit. its really easy. if you press her for info about the test, she will probably tell you. get on a personal level with her and you are IN.
good luck you better write fast, and listen well. the tests are god awfully difficult
Professor Edwards is a really cool lady who keeps class interesting, however this class is REALLY difficult if you are not a history major. If you do not want to write a 20 page paper, then do NOT take this class.
Really interesting professor! Class is never boring. No quizzes and no homework, just reading which you don't have to do. 3 part midterm, 1 paper and final. She's kind of a hard grader but gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. Pretty good class.
Jane is an AMAZING teacher! Her class is interesting (cause she's nuts) and I love it. The tests are difficult (timed). You'll have a lot of studying to do, and make sure you read the supp. texts, but other than that you'll do fine. Do all of the extra credit you can, and you'll never read out of the big textbook, I wouldn't even buy it.
If you are a history major or minor, you must take a class with Jane Edwards or you will never know true happiness. I recommend recording her lectures because you will catch more details when you repeat them. Read the books, do the extra credit, and if you're confused, either call or visit her to have it cleared up - it gives you brownie points!
She is a nice teacher that tries to make history interesting. No homework, quizzes or tests but you're expected to read the textbooks to understand what she doesn't teach. The midterm and exams were hard
One of the best history teachers I ever had. Attendance is not required at all, however you'll want to go anyway. No homework, no test, midterm + final + 1 paper. Go to class and notes you will get an good grade. the exams are not easy but not hard either. If you have the opportunity take this class. Eccentric style makes every class interesting.
She's a character. Super smart and good at teaching. You take notes every single class, so if you don't like taking notes then don't take her. Lets you do a lot of extra credit. Splits up the midterm into 3 sections, 1 paper, and final. Tests are kinda hard.
Crazy Jane is out of her mind, but I loved going to her class. There is no homework and as long as you read sparknotes for the supplemental texts you'll be fine. she gives you everything that will be on the tests so if you split up the study guide with friends you will be completely fine. take her class if you have a chance!
She's literally crazy! But I looked forward to her class every single day because you never knew what you'd expect. No homework, just don't save the study guides until the last minute - study with your friends ahead of time. If you take her during the fall semester, go to the Renaissance Festival! Oh yeah - and she wears the best outfits to class!
I took 4 classes with her and 10 years later still remember her lectures. One of my favorite professors. Really sparked my interest in modern European intellectual history.
The best teacher I have had here. the mid terms are not easy but the class is beyond helpful and interesting. Jane is the best!!
The best teacher I have had here. the mid terms are not easy but the class is beyond helpful and interesting. Jane is the best!!
The best teacher I have had here. the mid terms are not easy but the class is beyond helpful and interesting. Jane is the best!!
She is the type of teacher who has everything in her head. Watching her is like watching someone on the history channel. She is a good teacher and she really cares. You can't say that about many teachers today. She is forgiving when we don't do too great. On another note you have 1 midterm, final, and paper. I didn't like this type of problem.
CRAZY JANE! If you like history, you'll like her. She doesn't take attendance but all of the tests are based on the notes you get in class. She talks at the speed of lightning so she lets you record her. No HW, midterm is broken into 3 parts, 1 short paper and a Final. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT! Sit in the front! You'll catch more and she'll notice you
Really smart, like brilliant. No homework, at all. Final and midterm are manageable. You really learn a lot.
She will be the best teacher you take at loyola. You have no homework and the test comes directly from what she says in class so take notes. She keeps you always interested and her class time goes by so fast because you are enjoying it, even if you do not have any interest in history.
Best teacher I have had!!! Has unreal knowledge, I was obsessed with her class! You must take notes to do well!
She lectures based off the hundreds of pages of reading she assigns you each class. The work outside of class in unmanageable. Whatever she lectures on in class is most likely not going to be on the midterm or final. She gives you study guides which have nothing to do with what you learn in class. Oh, and the 18 page paper was so much FUN... not.
Jane Edwards is fantastic! Her class is extremely entertaining. Must take as many notes as possible. Follow her test structure exactly and know all details. You can do well if you write down all she says and attend office hours. She does not want to fail you!
She's amazing. Makes history the most interesting class I'm taking. She's so enthusiastic and truly brilliant.
She made me LOVE to go to her class every day. I used to look forward to it. She is truly a genius, and she is SO funny. The tests are set up in a time limit of 15 min, and you have to write 3 paragraphs. As long as you go to class you will pass this class. I HIGHLY recommend that you take this teacher. She will change your outlook on History.
Really engaging but notes are all over the place and is one of the toughest graders I've encountered at loyola.
She is a great history professor. Must take a lot of notes but there are no quizzes. Only assignment is a 3-part midterm broken up over the semester, a 3-5 page paper and a final. She keeps you interested by the way she teaches, tells history like its a comic book. Super energetic and peppy.
Crazy Jane gives best lectures, but is a VERY hard grader. She is one of the funniest teachers at Loyola. I look forward to taking another one of her classes.
One of the toughest graders I've ever had and her notes are not helpful at all. she just writes random words all over the board. For a 101 history class it was the hardest teacher I've had at Loyola and does not take into consideration that we have to take 101 history as a core. If i could go back in time I would not have chosen her as a teacher.
Hands down, Dr. Edwards is one of my favorite teachers I've ever had. Her lectures were so riveting and her presence so positive that one day, she ran over fifteen minutes late to my class and no one left. Once you take one of her classes, you will want to take everything she teaches!
Not good
Jane Edwards is the most brilliant person I have ever met. She's like a walking text book and remembers nearly all of the dates. HOWEVER her class is impossible. She is never clear with assignments at all or how the tests will be set up and would tell one class one thing and then forget to tell mine. Worked SO hard only to get B's all semester
Prof Edwards made me crack me up every class. With boring material, she puts on a theatrical performance. I still laugh about it semesters later. She is very, very knowledgeable. You have to work extremely hard to get an A, but I received B+'s and A-'s on every exam and got an A because i was always in class and focused.
Amazing lectures. A little all over the place but if you type your notes its easy to stay organized. Very helpful in office hours. Not many grades but lots of extra credit.
Jane is brilliant, her lectures are interesting and give you a new whole new outlook on history. She is friendly and helpful, very reachable even outside of office hours. Taking her class made me want to learn more, even though I'm far from a history major. That being said, if you are not prepared to sit down and study for hours for an exam omit.
Jane is the smartest professor I have ever had but they don't call her Crazy Jane for nothing. Her class is vague and relies heavily on the notes she provides in class. A midterm, final and paper are all the graded assignments. If you take her go to her office hours and orient your paper and tests to align with her liberal point of view.
nice lady but VERY opinionated, lost my midterm and was going to make me retake it which I found pretty irresponsible on her part and did not even apologize after she found it, you WILL need to read, had a midterm, final, and an 18 page paper-the paper was super annoying but she gives you all semester, gives review sheets which are EXACTLY the exam
Dr. Edwards is very funny and knowledgeable, but that's all I can say that's positive. Her lectures are crazy to keep up with, and it's impossible to stay "on schedule" because there isn't one. We didn't get a syllabus. Just an email. The course leans on a huge amount of independent reading, and it's just not worth it. Solid 2/10.
So Jane is a walking textbook and self-proclaimed sadist. Every class is a lecture that she makes up on the spot. There is a syllabus however everything she teaches is two months behind. Everything gets put on you last minute. You will end up taking your midterm at the end of the semester. Gives extra credit but is a tough grader so good luck!
Avoid at all costs. You are graded on 3 parts to a midterm, a paper and a final. Her lectures are all over the place. She does give out review sheets but she will not have talked about any of the terms in class. She assumes you know a lot of info coming into an intro class. Have to study A LOT for exams. Very unclear about requirements. Do not take
Jane has crazy lectures that go all over the place, and is a self proclaimed sadist for sure. But if you participate in the lectures when she asks the class questions she will like you and grade you easier! You are only graded on three things, but she gives the option of 5 extra credit papers, so do them! Jane is very smart and willing to help.
Never read the textbook, got an A+; she only assigns textbook readings as homework (so no HW) Extra Credit: write as many 2-page reflections as you want on anything you learn about history outside class, such as Maryland's Renaissance Festival Final paper: 4-6 pages on Communist Manifesto, use Headrick's "Tools of Empire" to prove Marx's Thesis
She lectures every class so there's no need to buy the textbook if you take notes. For quizzes she gives you a list of 35 terms to study & writes 5 random ones on the board: you define a term, give its date, & write its historical significance. She calls herself a sadist & gives very few grades but you can write as many extra credits as you want.
LOVE THIS WOMAN
I LOVE THIS WOMAN
She is absolutely insane but she is a great teacher. She has no problems moving tests around and she is very understanding. As long as you take notes and actually pay attention you'll be fine. She is a self proclaimed sadist and I loved her.
Although Professor Edwards is a funny person, I could not deal with her as a professor. She grades so hard, and barely has any things to grade. If you do bad on the midterms, theres not much of a way to bring your grade up. Whatever you do, DO NOT take this class.
So besides the fact that the first thing she tells you is that she's a sadist, she's actually very caring. Shes sarcastic in class but she's willing to move a test if it means you will do better or if you're sick. Her class is 100% lecture, don't read the textbook, but STUDY. It annoyed me that the entire grade was your test grades &she grades hard
She gave 3 assignments for the whole semester. three.
She is very funny. Everything on the tests she says, and she is very knowledgeable. You just have to get used to her bizarre mannerisms.
Prof. Edwards is nuts, but she is so funny and if you show you care (or act like you do) by talking to her after class, she will do everything she can to help you and give you a good grade. A lot of people don't like her, but be open to her chaos because you will learn a lot from her. Everything she talks about she tests, midterm, term paper, final
Jane is a genius but the way her class is set up is horrendous! The only grades are the midterms, a paper, and the final. Her class is very unorganized with absolutely no structure and it makes things very confusing. She explains history out of order which doesn't help! She does offer extra credit if you have the time.
I love Jane Edwards, shes insane, dont get me wrong, but shes very passionate about the things she teaches. Her lectures are all over the place but everything connects in the end. If you take good notes youll get a good grade. She is a sweet lady with an odd sense of humor. Opened my textbook twice the whole semester and finished with a 98.
Jane is one of the nicest people you will ever meet, but one of the worst professors I've ever had. This course along with the syllabus itself is very unorganized. She is not very clear with due dates and the midterms and final are the only grades you will get unless you do extra credit. Lectures are all over the place and it can get very confusing
Professor Edwards is very passionate and knowledgeable about the subjects she teaches. I very much enjoyed her lectures and it feels very easy to participate and focus in her class. Overall, TAKE NOTES: if you take notes in her class and reach out to her during review sessions you should pass with a solid grade.
This class was like the twilight zone of history classes. Absolutely ZERO structure. She rambles on & on about things that don't even seem to pertain to the topic of the course. After we left due to COVID, we hardly heard from her. She made no effort to even continue teaching us anything new. She's very smart but is not a good prof at ALL!
Her lectures are so hard to comprehend, she goes off topic all the time. If you ask a question during class, good luck. She rambles and forgets to answer your question. Grades solely based off midterm, one paper, and final. Doesn't cover everything on the exam in class. Do the extra credit though. She's very sweet and smart but not the best teacher
She's funny and likes to exaggerate. Kinda makes me think of the boomer version of a "quirky" girl because of the way she talks about some things being "totally crazy", but other than that she was pretty enjoyable. Recommendation: take notes. Her powerpoints are not that great so it's best to write down things while in class. Her quizzes are easy.
I found Dr. Edwards to be extremely disorganized- she seems like she never really knew what she was talking about and her lectures are VERY hard to follow. She goes off on a thousand tangents, does not give clear answers to questions, and also is a slow grader. You wont know how you're doing in the class until the end. Avoid if possible
