I had to drop her Hist 7 web course because it was so crazy. Her questions were horrible. The quizzes were open book, but there seemed to be more than one right answer right there on the same page so you were left to eeny-meeny-miney-mo it.Way too hard!
Nice lady, very knowledgeable! Her tests are brutal though! But she's a great teacher
Very enthusiastic and knowledgable. I would recommend her and this class to everyone.
Had to drop because of a stupid error on the test. Hit the wrong button after the first question on the first test and she wouldn't reset the test.
wow! take notes like crazy or you'll never keep up. there was no information from the books except the first book you have to read, just make sure you go to class everyday and ace your quizzes which are cake if you read them, notes notes notes....NOTES!!!
Tons and tons of notes...Her tests are extremely tough b/c you need to know EVERYTHING!!! But a good teacher if you go in for help. Very tough class if you don't take GOOD notes everyday.
Very clear and tells stories that helped me remember a lot of the information. She also gave some extra credit opportunities which was nice.
She is very unwilling to help with the online course. Her tests are insanely difficult, and the answers are often left up to guessing and what you THINK the answer might be. I had to drop because the website was down, and she refused to reopen.
Very nice, but completely unorganized in her lectures.
She doesn't seem to like to help you if you're in the online course. I did receive an A but the class was rather brutal.
Lots of notes, but has a Lecture outline that she follows pretty closely.
Gives extra credit opportunities and is very easy to follow.
very hard to follow. No clear path. Have to jump from one thing to another just to be left confused at the end. I took word-to-word notes and still could not make it on tests. It is hard to organize your knowledge when there is no established system. No r
Not at all interested in assisting her students. Pretty much a sink or swim kind of teacher.
lectures all day, everyday. note taking is essential! her tests aren't too hard and she offers extra credit. but she's not one to offer help. if i hadn't taken hist 25 and 28 simultaneously, it would have been a lot harder.
This class was awful. I didnt understand anything. She jumps around completly when she lectures. You get very confused on what to write down for your notes!
very, very rude.. im in her online class, and i ask a question and she comes back with a rude remark.
Awful experience.I took her online class and she was extreamly rude.Unwilling to help. Her quizes plus tests were hard and some questions were never clearly answered in the book.If you need help on chapter quizes there is course content online and a lot of the questions are the same. Again, very rude
Lots of notes, but gives a review sheet and tells you essay questions ahead of time. Also gives extra credit just for being there.
Terrible class. She basically assigned a book and set dates to do tests by online. no other assignments and nothing interactive with the other classmates. Not only that.. all her tests with answers are online as student resources at the publishers website. I never used them cuz i felt bad. got a B.
Online classes 7 & 8 I had very little interaction with her, but that's expected in an online class.Had hist 14 on campus & found her lectures very interesting. If you go everyday & take notes, you'll know exactly what's on the exams.Very straightforward, so easy to ace the class.
This teacher seems so lazy! I took an online class with her and she was so slow to respond to emails and provides no online interaction or otherwise! She is very rude and when you take a test she refuses to tell you which answers you got wrong!
She is very rude and very difficult! I had a very hard time paying attention in her class because she was so boring and every night we had to read out of the text book and she made our class buy a book and then said we didnt need it bevause she didn't like it. I asked her for help a coupld times during her office hours and she didn't help me at all
I'm currently taking 7 & 14 online. This chick does not know how to teach! The questions on the quizzes/exams have TWO meanings (like, two answers) and you have to figure out which one is the right one! Including these classes, i've taken 3 and NO MORE! I only signed up because they are online and I need them. AVOID her!
I loved her class. She is straightforward on what she expects. People just need to take responsibility...its her job to teach...not to coddle everyone and make sure they're having fun. And I think she is witty and very knowledgeable about California History...especially history having to do with Native Americans.
I took this class my first year at las po...and I got a C...Its not that shes a bad teacher its just that you need to really work in her class..Take good notes and do the study guides and its not so bad.... I thought she was nice.
That class was really hard so hard i have to take it again but whatever...

I really injoyed her classes. If you are at all interested in history she makes it really neat to learn. She knows what she is talking about and does a great job teaching. Use the study guide for her tests and they should make it easy and take notes during her lecture. I really enjoyed her.
She's a horrible Teacher, don't take her

a lot of reading, but a very good class
when she teaches half the time she doesnt know what shes talking about. she contradics herself all the time. There is all kinds or reading, and even with a study guide for finals you can't pass her tests.
All you have to do is read the material cause she takes her test questions right from the book. I personally don't like history, but she made it ok.

She is hard. The online class is very self-explanatory but you have to keep up the reading yourself. You must plan out the chapters and reading assignments in advance or you will be screwed when the deadlines come around every few weeks. You must be a good reader and and retain everything. The online class is cool but you have ot be disciplined.
not easy, but you will learn a lot. great teacher.
She's an exceptional lecturer, and pretty nice.
Please, do not take any history class with this teacher. She makes it look easy, and one ends up studying for an A, to get a C.
This teacher is the queen of tricky questions. Tricky quizzes and exams.
great teacher, not easy teacher. she really knows he stuff.
She may be good in class, but her online class is horrible. I did every single quiz and her tests were still impossible. Just study really hard, look up every answer during the tests, and pray for a B.
I got an A, but she's just mean. If you thought you saw her smile, it was a grimace. It's generally thought that she hates students and it's no doubt because of the enthusiasm she shows them.
Very hard teacher but the info is ineresting....i've never had to study before for anything...this class i have to for about 3 days just to get a high b on the tests...great challenge if you dont care about your gpa
I thought she was great. Serious but caring and funny. Really knows her stuff and tells students exactly what they need to do for the exam.
ONLINE: Very, very, tricky quiz questions. You can access and print them out in advance, but they're still very difficult. Exams are slightly less tricky, but still require tons of effort - don't even think about slacking or you'll get behind. Extra credit for watching movies, very helpful (responded promptly) and clear explanations. Be prepared.
Online: Ditto to everything the person from 8/3/07 posted. If you think you have a dispute with any quiz /exam scores, contact her!
very clear and easy to understand. hard class but very informative, if you like lecture classes this is a class for you, but if you want a class with grade bumps from doing homework then her teaching style is not for you. i loved her class, but you really have to go every day.
She's a great teacher and really knows her stuff! TAKE LOTS OF NOTES! She lectures every day so beware. NO HOMEWORK most of the time! Tests VERY hard. All in all, hard class but you'll learn a lot as long as you keep up with the speed of her lectures every day!
This professor is HORRID! Do not ever take her. She is unfair in her requirements with the book content and the tests/exams. She un-necessarily hard and the timing for the exams is totally NOT enough time to take it. She's ridiculous!!!
Horrid class. Test questions are OPEN book, but very very very TRICKY!!!! The EXAMS are HARD as HECK!!!!! I don't know what professors get out of tricking you. We are suppose to be learning about the subject, not be confused about it. The course was taken online. It is HORRID!!!!!!!!! Do NOT take her for California History!!!!!
She knows her stuff American Indian History, yet she never lets you ask questions. The tests are directly from the lectures and tricky. Thought that would be a good challege, however, proved to be wicked confusing/hard. Teaching stle is problematic for eager students She is very robotic and does not want to vary her lesson plans in class. Beware!!!
This online class was difficult. The time to take the tests was way to short. For example you have ~75 questions and an hour to complete the test. Try reading 4 chapters and then taking a test that doesnt even give you enough time to read and think about each question. The questions are a little tricky too. Be careful with this professor.
Do NOT take Online class with her. Her tests and quiz's are extremely hard. It is more of a reading class. She tricks you so hard on the questions. The amount of test time you get is not fair. You have like 85 questions and only an hour or hour 1/2 to take it.
Do not take her class if you value accountability. Heavy use of text, but she blames publisher for inaccurate quizzes. Says to do extra credit to make up for her mistakes. No material directly from her, all text. She required a handout from her office even though distance education class. Quizzes and tests graded themselves. What does she do?
I really enjoyed her classes. Her classes can be hard at times, but she is a fair teacher.
Like everyone else said, AVOID HER! Her questions are tricky, she's not helpful when even if you go to her office hours. She'll only tell you to go read the book. Unless you have a passion for history and want to spend your life on this class, by all means, go for it.
WONDERFUL TEACHER!! I took Hist 7 & 8 online with her. Quizzes are open book and when scores are high enough Tests count very little toward overall grade. I tried taking an in person class with her and found that to be very difficult. Recommend ONLINE ONLY not in person. Online is a BREEZE!!
This course has been very difficult because the test questions and the book to not match. Jane McCoy is aware of the problem but it has not been resolved. McCoy has given extra credit points and these points are included in our over all points, not as extra points earned. She has been unclear on due dates.
I found the exams and instructions a little difficult but with steady work I was able to do very well in Hist 7 & Hist 8. Both classes were taken online and I was very satisfied.
She is totally out of touch with her students and does not know how to teach them. Education is a game for her and she always wins. Tests are over the top brain teasers. I love AmIndHist, but this was a trip to my GPA. Took the lecture class, but the Online is even more difficult acording to my sources. She uses antiquaited overhead images, films.
The class was hard. She didn't grade on a curve at ALL. Gave study guides but there was so much information that we were expected to memorize for the 4 tests that made up the majority of our grades.
EASY. All you have to do is printout the quizzes ahead of time and the study guides for the exams and you'll pass if your taking the online class.
SHE IS A HORRIBLE Teacher!!! If you have learning disabilities you will not succeed in her online class. I did an assignment and followed the prompt and she gave me a D because "I didn't" answer the questions when i did. BAD TEACHER.
I took her online class last summer; I got an A. As long as you read & try to learn every single page, you won't have problems with the exams. Try to answer the study guides ahead of time to check your comprehension of the text. Quizzes/homework can be printed/prepared ahead of time. You can't rely with an open book during exams, read/study 1st
Don't ever take this Instructor. Her test is tricky and she is not good at all. She is not supposed to be an instructor at all. She doesn't help students to achieve their goals which is a failure to her. Warning: Don't take any of her class...Very very hard and tricky! She will not help you, even you are asked her.
HOrrible Teacher. She' never good at all.. STUPID class! I'm not ever going to take her class again.. She's not helpful. Do not take her class.
Bad Teacher. Don't take her!
SHE IS A HORRIBLE Teacher!!! If you have learning disabilities you will not succeed in her online class. I did an assignment and followed the prompt and she gave me a D because "I didn't" answer the questions when i did. BAD TEACHER.
She is not good in teaching. Her test i very hard and tricky! She i not helpful at all. If you want to "A" do not take any of he class.
She is not a good teacher at all. I came from other community school, and despite of her teaching strategies, she is such a failure. Her test is very very hard. It's hard to get "A" with this class.
I enjoyed her. You can watch movies for extra credit, she is always open to help. Questions are tricky but you have to really read the material and you'll get it. She is not as awful as people are describing her. I am taking her for History 8 now :)
Does not work well with students!
CONFUSING! no textbook, jumps around subjects, its impossable to pass a test 18 people failed her exam! only 1 got a A
For the online class, you basically read the chapters and take quizzes for each one. The exams pile together 8 chapters worth of info, so keep up with the reading. The averages for the exams tend to be around 50% and below; very tricky questions. If all the quizzes and exams grade themselves, then what does she do for the class?
Great teacher!! I am currently enrolled in her class. I was overwhelmed because there is sooo much info in this class and she has been a great help, very good advice and she will lead you in the right direction if you just talk to her. all you have to do is ASK her questions!!! and she gives TONS of extra credit. She has been an inspiration to me!
Took her class online over the summer and by far one of the easiest classes. You just read the chapters and print out the quizzes and find the answers as you go along, alot of exam questions but doesnt give you alot of time. Gives extra credit through watching movies and did one forum post. Easy A!
Easy A if you know how to read directions and manage your time. Totally self paced. Quizzes aren't timed. Tests are long enough that you have time to look stuff up in the book but you won't need to if you use the study guides. There's really no excuse not to pass her online class. Don't be lazy, do the work, and you'll be fine.
Like others have said, you MUST print the quizes, read the text, and take notes on the study guide material as you go. It is a lot of work, but if you take the time to read the book and take notes you will do really well. If you missed a question on the quiz, and you know you answered correctly, email her! Be respectful and state why you believe your answer is correct; if you ARE right, she will give you credit. Also, you can watch movies from her list, and write reports for extra credit!
Online History 7- straight forward, self paced, clear, great for independent learners. You can finish the entire class in the first 2 weeks, or even the last 2 weeks(dont recommend). Loved this class. Only complaint, the questions on quizzes and tests are sometimes very vague/open ended(from publisher). Overall great class for independent learners.
I love History but this teacher could easily turn you off the course. Her exam questions are very hard and insignificant. I studied hard and knew the material but her multiple choice exam questions were not based on general information but a very specific sentence in the text. I have 12 A's and dropped her as knew I would fail.
Her online courses are very self-paced. The quiz questions lead you the wrong way, and can be tricky. Most of the questions I've missed were because there can be two right answers and you have to get the one they are looking for. She needs to fix the quizzes. Mediocre.
Her online class was really hard. The quiz questions can lead you to two different answers.
Awesome teacher! I simultaneously had her for Native American Studies and History of the American West. She's passionate about what she teaches and you get to watch a lot of videos in her classes. If you follow the study guides before tests you'll at LEAST get a B-. Study groups the week before really help.
VERY VERY VERY boring teacher. All she does is lectures and talks from the minute class starts til the very end. If you listen to her lectures and take notes, you'll be fine.
Took her online class.there is an average of 10 quizzes EACH month(each quiz is 10 questions). and 4 exams EACH month (70-80 questions each). every answer is in the book & readings.they're definitely not hard. if you have the self motivation & patience, take her class.
Great instructor! Not a class to take if you are just looking to get an A, and not do any work. The work load wasn't bad, as I had a total of 16.5 units. I learned a lot and was very glad to have taken her class!!
Straight forward with all the instructions. Took it online; you can do all the quizzes and exams in one day if you really had the time and motivation. Not too difficult. Everything is straight from the book, so GET THE BOOK.
Relatively straight forward class. I thought she was unnecessarily picky with a few "class" assignments as far as taking points off though. Her exams are the only other portion of the class. If you've got a busy schedule(ENGR majors), this is the way to go. Complete your work whenever you have time. I'd advise you don't put it off.
Well her class is online, the quizzes are easy because its not timed but my goodness she is a horrible grader when it comes to assignments she will seriously take a lot of points off for wording a answer differently, not the best teacher...
Well the class is online so it was pretty easy when it came to quizes they arent't timed like her 3 tests... But when it comes to assign she is a horrible grader and very strict when you don't word things the way she does she docks off a lot of points..
I took her over summer and she did give a substantial amount of work. The assignments took a bit of thinking to understand what exactly it is she wanted you to do, but in the end they were simple. As long as you try in the class you will pass.
Taking a history class online isn't too difficult. The only thing I disliked about this teacher is the fact that she's not interactive online. Whether it's an online class or not, I strongly believe that she should at least check in with the class with announcements and post things on BB from time to time.
This class isn't very hard at all you read the book, do the quizzes and sometimes do an assignment on the side. If you have any questions just e-mail her. It might not be very interactive, but she makes everything pretty straight forward. you can find most of the answers online too, but you DO need the book!
Took during Summer. GET THE BOOK. Seriously, I cannot stress this enough. Quizzes are not very difficult since they are not timed. However, the tests are something else. Very stressful, quick paced, and long. But with that being said, I would take her class again. FYI, she does not accept late assignments so don't get lazy or forget anything.
Not the sweetest over email, but direct. There is not much time on tests--if you are a slow test taker your stress levels will rise. The class is doable but you must commit to it and be warned there is NOT much time for the tests!
She is a great Teacher. I took the class online and passed with an A. I enjoyed the class. Take her!!
I would not take this class again. She does not give any sort of positive feedback, only negative. The tests are extremely long, difficult, and very specific. The time allowed for the online tests is a joke. It is difficult to finish the tests on time, and it will make you feel rushed and stressed. Take another teacher.
Very straight forward instructor. Take the quizzes, take the tests, and maybe a couple additional assignments. She will NOT hold your hand through the semester. Let me be clear, if you need to contact her, she will get back to you. But don't expect anything more than that. Great teacher for an independent learner and experienced online students.
