Such a tough marker. Tough course with, a lot to know. Her exam is killer, its all on contracts, know the stuff! She will murder you for not partcipating. Asking stupid questions (in her opinion) and she'll go out of her way to yell at you.

Very difficult to listen to. She mumbles in a monotonous manner. Tests are tricky, and she took 3 weeks to mark the first one.
She explains things well if you can hear her. Shes also extremely nice to students who want to be there, but she seems pretty lazy. And if you dont like talking in class, dont go, because she picks on everyone.

99% of the class is afraid of her. She is just so mean. She shuts people down and many are uncomfortable in her class. Maybe if she was more friendly, the class would be fun because the material certainly is.

She's a hard teacher. Get out if you can. Tests can be tricky and she picks on people in class. Strict on attendance and does random choices for class participation. Deducts marks if you get the answer wrong/don't know it.

She rambles on during class on pointless facts, she's completely unhelpful and her tests are a total mystery on the material covered in the text..why assign a text in the 1st place if you're not going to test students on the material?

I picked her class and then was told she was really horrible. Overall I thought she was alot better than people said she was. I studied the night before for her exams and got A's so it can be done. Her final was hard but its a case so look through the entire text and memorize everything (open book exam). I got an A in her class so it's possible

Somebody needs to tell her that she is extremely rude when she communicates with students. Comments such as "you dont just ask me the answer"; "where have you been" were given many times to the students throughout the semester. It is almost impossible to participate without getting offended by her.

I have never had anyone worst than her. She comes late to the class (which is her negligence). She looks like a nice old lady(attraction to nusiance).She never responds clearly to your question and tricks you in the test and quizes (tort of deceit). Ryerson should be sued for her rude behaviour (occupier's libaility).

Worseee prof i've ever had at ryerson. You can barely hear what shes saying because she talks so soft, she can barely answer your questions if you dont understand her. Wow, i literally had to memorize the whole textbook for this one. Went from a D- pre-exam to a B thanks to some major cramming and superior ownage of the finals. She's a GREAT prof b/c she incorporates interesting stories to her lectures she's so stuck up. Exam was WAY easier than her midterm tests; her tests are application/critical thinking
Lectures are straight from text! just read text well, take good notes.no real need to go to class just have a buddy in class so you find out important dates(ie prof missed a couple classes, and post poned test).

Do yourselves a favour and don't take this course with her. She doesn't use Blackboard, has unfair and strict policies and is very short tempered. The tests are super hard. For example, in the multiple choice sections, all the choices would appear to be the correct answer but you have to select the MOST correct which is absolutely ludacris!
I think its because of the law mentality u know, "anything u say can be used against u in court" or "dont speak unless u have a lawyer to consult" dats y she s strict about ppl saying the exact right thing. apart from that, kinda nice sense of humor actually.
Despite what you read here Jane is not a terrible raving tyrant nor is she ridiculous. Admittedly when you're answering a question she wants the whole answer, and at the beginning of the term she was quite tough. Her tests are pretty easy and she lets you use the textbook and all of your notes during the test and the exam.
When I first read these comments I went to class really scared. Then I realized she's not bad at all, and she's not mean nor is she unreasonable. She simply expects you to do what you came there to do: study. As long as you're not late and you've done what she's asked you to do you're absolutely fine.
Very smart, very challenging. Pushes for clarity, and doesn't have time for people who don't do their work. Come prepared and you'll learn a lot; don't do the reading and thinking outside of class, and you'll fail.

I think shes just misunderstood. Shes just very old fasioned and likes people to be on time and respectful which is understandable. Although, I do think she should concentrate more on teaching than continuosly allowing herself to be distracted by people and giving them a speach every time. If you give her respect she'll give it back. Shes fair.
She is a very good prof. Very fair and reasonable when it comes to marking. She will challenge you to make sure you fully understand your answer, hence why she asks WHY. Enjoyed her course very much, hope she teaches other law classes. Very much recommend her as a prof worth learning from. Don't assume she is bad, find out yourself!

Exams are easy once you get the style/pattern, she is willing to bump your marks up if you see improvement and she will adjust exam difficulty if the class is not doing well, I was getting high 60s in the first two midterms and I ended up with a B+.. Honestly this course requires a lot from you. Especially with this teacher. Just is not for the everyday average ryerson student. This class you need 2 put in a lot of work to get a decent mark. Overall she's a good prof, but if u want the marks just make sure you do all the cases in each chapter and go check ur answers with her. GOOD LUCK

This teacher prof is more than decent. You just have to go meet her half way and she is willing to help you. She has bad habits but she makes up for it with her knowledge and experience in the field. She makes more than $150,000 a year being a prof at ryerson they must pay her that much for a reason. Take her seriously and you will be fine.

A majority of the comments associated with prof Monroe have been negative, but the truth is that this is LAW, and you have to be on the ball. No matter what prof you have, I would recommend finding a study group, going to the tutorials and doing readings beforehand. Lastly, I would be willing to wager that a majority of posters have not gone to her
Just finished taking this course with the prof. I spoke with her outside of the classroom and she is a very nice person deep down. But she is still a TOUGH professor and taking this course with her is a huge pain. Advice: Never come to class late, don't ask stupid questions, read the related chapters before class, DO THE CASE STUDIES!!!
Excellent Professor. She is helpful, and demands respect from students to herself and others. In and outside of the classroom she is willing to explain difficult topics. Provides you with tips how to study and do better. Punctuality is a must, as well as paying attention in class.

This woman demands respect. Which is fine, but only if you return it. I happened to be sitting closest to her when she was mad at the class once and infront of everyone she demanded why *I* personally was there; questioning everything about me. I never had trouble with professors but she is an exception. My CGPA is almost 4 but with her class I think I will be getting around 2 at most. I will NOT recommend her an as per previous comments she has some problems with being nice to people. She wants everyone to attend class ontime but at least 4/13 weeks she was late for at least 10 mins

Dropped her class after the first 2 classes because she is rude. A student asked about the "Charter of rights thingie" and she yelled at her in front of the whole class saying "I suggest you re-word your question this is a university class". Made me scared to even ask questions from then on. Gives dirty looks when u ask a "stupid" question.
If you're looking for an easy A, I suggest you to drop right now. If you're actually looking to learn, keep it. Professor Monro is REALLY strict, but she's fair. Keep in mind that most of the bad reviews belong to people who did poorly in her class. Hint: Pay attention to what she says in class, especially the case examples that she emphasizes.
If Law and Business is your major I HIGHLY recommend this class. Yes she is VERY strict but as she says "if your not able to deal with her in a class room, how can you handle the real world". Her class is extremely helpful and if you attend and take notes every class you will actually learn and be able to use that knowledge to future law courses
She is a tough teacher, but she really knows her stuff. If you do the readings that she assigns for each class and read the chapters before class you will do fine. And really expects people to talk during the class, so if you have done your homework, she will respect you for answering.

Teaches very interesting and practical intro law material. 90% of lecture time is her reading or elaborating on the textbook. Takes attendance even though there is no participation mark (she'll raise your grade at the end if you attend and participate though). Always practice the textbook and online cases and you do well!
I am appalled at the lack of respect she shows towards her students. Treats students like they have no dignity and runs the class until the very last minute (all 3 hours). The next period students will get humiliated in front of the entire class should they enter 2 minutes before her class ends. I recommend to drop her class if unable to switch out

I had Jane Munro as a teacher over twenty years ago. As a marketing professional, I can tell you that the hard work and high demands in her class have helped me throughout my career. I have used the basic knowledge of Canadian law that I learned that year every year of my working life. You will get out of the course what you put into it.

Professor Monro is a knowledgeable prof who gives good examples which help you understand the material. Read both her hand outs and the readings. She is very tough in terms of tardiness, participation, and respect, but overall, she is a very knowledgable professor. She is very old though, so she would always have these "senior moments", and it's very hard to listen to her when her mic isn't properly adjusted.. so it's a bit difficult to focus on lectures. Just listen and you'll do well.
Especially if this is your first ever law course, make sure you don't have this prof. She makes the course a lot harder than it needs to be and is a bit rude and mean. Also, she is very harsh on those who come even five minutes late to class.
Avoid if you can, she is difficult to understand and when I tried to go to her office hours, she wasnt even there! wanted me to wait almost an hour, so I left. Avoid if you can!
This lady is absolutely useless. It was a complete waste of my time going to her classes so I ended up skipping most of them. She yells at kids, victimizes you if you come in late, and she's just really really mean for no reason whatsoever. DROP this class and switch to someone more civilized or you can get a terrible mark....
Keeps students the full 3 hours even if she has nothing to say and even keeps the class overtime. Wastes time insulting students. Drifts off in a monotonous voice and then yells loudly when people lose focus. Jane and her TA keep discussing course issues with the class during designated break time.
cannot really hear clearly most of the time because her voice is so low and get yell at for not preparing to class. well, she pushed me to prepare to class and do all the readings lol I was expecting a higher mark for all the work I did! switch to a better pro if is possible.
Avoid her if you can. I have never failed a class in my entire life until taking her class. I put the work in and went to all tutorials and still did not pass. she spends more time lecturing students on other things than teaching. And you can barely hear what she is saying when she speaks. I believe she has retired now.
