Requires a ridiculous amount of reading and essay writing, especially for her internet class.Thinks each student is taking her class and no other. However she grades on a curve and I got an A despite not doing a lot of assignments (I did do a ton, though)
She was very helpful and informative about the subject. The workload was more than reasonable (one poem a week) The class was workshop style and very casual. Felt like a private poetry group rather than a class. No tests, no papers, just a portfolio.
Enjoyed the class. She comes across as serious and no nonsense at first but turns out to be easy to get along with.
Great teacher, excellent speaker; seems to really like her job. She brings new life into old material (New Testament Bible). Assignments: Reading Responses for homework, no test or quizzes, but essays instead.
The Women in Lit class (distance ed only) is great...lots of work, but Rosecrans outliines it very clearly in the syllabus (broken down by week). Actually checks email and responds in a timely manner, unlike other profs!
Quite a few students take this course like it's a Bible study, which it is not. The number of Reading Responses is kind of irritating, but the course is interesting. She helps students see the Bible from a more open minded point of view. 3 essays and research presentation. Some unflexible religious students ramble and take the lecture off course.
Very Fair and objective in grading. She is up front with you about what it takes to get an A and she will help you, if you ask her for help and if it's not at the last minute. (not for the lazy or looser who doesn't try) Very helpful and understanding.
Fairly good teacher. There's a lot of work for her internet course, but as long as you stay on top of things you will do well. It's not hard to get an A on your written work (essays, etc.).
Good teacher, I would recommend this online class. Learned a lot and she is very helpful in writing.
good teacher, easy A if you keep up
She is AMAZING! Extremely knowledgeable about the material, embraces her students unique opinions and thoughts, keeps class interesting and fun and allows open discussions for theological debate in class. No tests/quizzes/midterm or final. Lots of informal papers, 3 formal/graded papers and one group research project @ the end. Highly recommended!!
Very helpful.
She is okay, but i took her class online, and all she sends u back in an email is ur grade. she doesn't tell u why or what u did wrong, i did okay in the class, way 2 much reading for my own taste, but i never was able to make an A and i'm not sure why. i would always get a B, B+, but couldnt figure out what i was doing wrong..oh well its done now!
The class is esay if you don't work and have all the time in the world to read and write for it. But at the end if you show critical thinking you are going to get A no matter what!!!!!
LOTS of work for online class. She is very helpful if you ask. Not an impossible A but there is a lot of work involved.
The class is alot of work and time consuming. I took the PRC class. The work is well worth it I learned alot! She had our portfolio at the end be comprised of the papers we wrote druing the class and let us correct them for a better grade on each previous paper and that went also towards our portfolio. She is very strict on attendance.
Class was just boring. You read, write and do it again. She is kinda funny with classroom discussions, but its alot of writing out side and the end of the semester is CRAZZY with the works she gives you. Not the worst class, but there are easier.
She was hard! I am a foreign student and never had a problem with any professor other than her. I always get A's but with her it was like she hated me! Almost like she didn't want me to talk in class because to everything I said she responded roughly, kind of rude.
She really pushed me to be a better writer. Great class, she is tough but fair if you approach her for help.
I took the ENG 241 Online Class and she was a great professor. I didn't even try my hardest and got a "B" in the class. All we had to do were 3 essays, weekly responses, and discussion board. I would recommend her to anyone. She respnds to emails and is very helpful.
The class was tough. She tought in a modern way...no text books required, so thats a pretty good plus towards the class. Overall, I would have to say she was not my favorite teacher. Many say she shows favortism, which I could sense, but other than that she does push for you to be a good writer-mostly focused on analytical writings the entire sem.!
I enjoyed this online class and it wasnt as hard as I thought it would be. She was very clear on what she wanted. If it wasnt understood by most, she would still give you credit and clarify the information some more. Discussion board and responses/ 3 essays and thats it. I think it was a extremely flexible online class that was well worth taking.
I truly think Dr. Rosecrans is a very intelligent and fair professor. I took an online class and with each assignment submission she would reply with exactly what you did wrong. She has certain expectations (that are all over the syllabus) and expects you to meet them. She really encouraged critical thinking and MADE you go outside the box :)
She's pretty cool. She can be a little condescending at times though, but not too bad. She can also be a little biased on grading depending on whether you agree with her stance or not. Other than those complaints, she's helped me improve on my writing.
So this is a religion class... NOT AN ENGLISH CLASS. wow fooled me. I have never ever had to write so many papers in my life. Waste of time. Never again will i take another religion class with this professor.
I was interested in this class before I took it. I was not expecting to have to write as much. She was very biased when it came to grading, to get a better grade you had to agree with her. She didn't assign the right text book so I spent money just to watch it sit, unused. Take her classes only if you are ready to work and work hard for your grade.
Took online summer course. Three double spaced page essay every week plus discussion board. Midterm and final essay. No tests. Easy grader. Do the work and you'll pass.
I have taken several classes with this professor, both online and in classroom, and I have found her to be one of the most helpful and fair professors at J. Sargeant Reynolds. She expects the essays you write to be well thought out, and she really appreciates it if you look into the symbolism involved. I'm a religion major because of her!
Very strict with her papers. She tells you that the MLA book is the Bible in the class, but when I showed her something that contradicted what she said, she said the book was wrong... Not sure what was going on there, but otherwise, she'll explain things if you need. READ THE STORIES ON TIME!
Too many papers to write, not really learning anytin. Very nice teacher though
I had her for Eng 241 and 242 and took both online, and I received A's in both courses. The work isn't hard at all and its the same thing each week. You have a few readings and then you write a two page paper on what you read and there's a discussion board each week. The work is very manageable and there are 3 essays at least 5-7 pages each.
This class is intellectually stimulating, but at the same time, tough! If you are not a strong writer don't attempt it. I have pretty decent writing skills and it was a struggle to stay at a B. I took this class over the summer. Don't underestimate this class because of the school its at. Yes the book is required.
VERY good teacher!! taking her next semester for 112!
I took her online for Eng 242 and I received an A. I did have to write a lot of papers though. I had to write 2 pages a week and I had to post a word word response on DB. And essays are 5 pages long.So if you hate writing find another teacher though for Eng 242 any class is going to make you write a lot. Overall I would recommend her.
112 is a writing intense course. You end up writing 3 major papers and 10-12 informal 2 page papers (basically 2 each week). Her class wasn't the easiest, but if you need help with your writing skills, she is the best. She also talks about interesting topics. There is no other homework, but to read and write a paper about what you read.
This class is fairly easy. As long as you do the work to the best of your ability and attend class, you'll do fine. ASK QUESTIONS, she sometimes will start talking about things off topic and might not cover everything planned by the end of class. She doesn't use textbooks. She's more than happy to read over your paper and give you feedback.
Sweet lady, show effort and she'll work with you. I don't recommend a textbook for this class if you're using google. This class is basically your opinion. no right or wrong answer and there are no test just three papers. stupid easy. I received a B, definitely take this online, idk about in person.
Very unfair, never told me I was failing during the semester always compliment me on my work an then last week before submitting grades she tell me I fail for the course..... Crazy!!!!!!
Feel like I learned nothing in her class. Most of the time she just talks about stuff I feel has nothing to do with what we should be talking about.
I took REL 255 online this semester with DR. Rosecrans, I thought this class was a very easy class to pass. As long as you complete weekly discussion boards, reading responses and the two essays you will be fine! She loves when people just write about their true opinions on the readings. I would definitely recommend her as a teacher.
worst class ever made no sense wrote more papers than in an english class i didnt learn anything i will never take one of her classes again
Impossible to fail if you come to class and turn in/keep up with assignments. Though, I sometimes found myself wondering why showing up was necessary due to long talks about unrelated topics.
Dr. Rosecrans is a great english professor. Put in a little effort and you will do fine. Really easy to work with and very clear on instructions. Takes time with her students.
Dr. Rosecrans is very easy to communicate with and is extremely clear about assignments and due dates. Do your weekly work plus 3 essays and it will be easy. I took her class online so I never met her, but she seems like a very nice and intelligent professor. Provides all reading material through Blackboard, so no expensive text book. HUGE plus!
This was an online course and I felt it was very cut and dry. If you follow the instructions, you will defenitly pass. When first reading the syllabus it seems VERY overwhelming, but it really isn't that much! She is a fair grader and gets things back to you quickly!
She is an incredible professor that presents the material in such a passionate way that you will become excited about the subject and look forward to class. She is tough but reasonable, and will call you out on nonsense. Read the material, participate, and she will grade fairly.
There is a lot of writing in this class but it is fairly easy, and I am no writer. As long as you are trying you will do great. One two page paper a week with a discussion board. Three 1250 word papers. Sounds like a lot but I would definitely recommend this teacher!
Professor Rosecrans is a well respected professor don't get me wrong the thing that is difficult with her class is that she assigns lots of assignments that are due the next class, when she gives back the 3 major papers she gives you lots of criticism like your supposed to be a English major..
Ok, here's the deal with Rosecrans. She is a bit of a nice person, but you can really tell what she is for, and what she is against (political stuff etc, very opinionated). She gives a TON of homework, like every class, and we have three papers due for the semester, each time increasing in length of pages. Her class is easy, just a ton of work.
Dr. Rosecrans was an "ok" teacher. She was very open about her opinions. She assigned many "mini" papers for the semester, 2 essays and 1 research project. She expects a lot from her students and grades really tough. I will not be recommending her to anyone, unless they like to write.
Communicative; gave positive feedback; grades and posts grades in a timely manner. Not at all a tough grader, though there are pretty specific requirements for assignments. Do the discussion boards on time, write really solid essays, do all of the homework assignments and you're good.
Prof. Rosecrans is great but you have to work for the A. You write 1-2 papers a week and a discussion board thats around 400 words. It is a lot of reading and a lot of writing but you do not have to buy text books and as long as you attempt you should get an A.
This professor is the worst professor I have ever taken. I dropped her class because she was a tough grader and when I asked her what I needed to improve on she only said "Syllabus." DO NOT take her class.
In my experience, this was an "easy A", but you must write 2 and a half pages minimum on the 15 Reading Responses (as per syllabus). No extra credit offered. She lets you correct the two major essays but- though the syllabus says otherwise- she never sent any form of feedback to anyone in the class, so good luck figuring out why you lost points.
It's literally a lie when the comments say she gives no feedback. I've had her for two different classes and for both she sends back emails after every weekly short essay saying what needs to be improved upon specifically. She will make you work for the A but the class is not hard. 2 short assignments a week, 3 big papers, that's it for the class.
I did not want to take this class at first; however I needed the elective to graduate. The professor took want, to me, was a boring class and made it very interesting. There were no tests, but a lot of papers and discussion board responses. Great professor and I would certainly take her class again.
This is a good class, if you are up to writing a lot. Rosecrans' work is not hard by any means, but you really have to keep up and make sure that you do the mini-papers she assigns on time. My only nitpick with her is that she seems to have an intimidating demeanor, but other than that, I would take her again!
Professor Rosecrans is a solid teacher, she assigns a lot of work, outlines her expectations, and follows through. I consider myself a good writer and got good grades, but didn't feel like I learned much from her. I improved on my own by writing a lot, but did not receive much feedback except on major projects. Willing to answer questions by email
She isn't a bad professor, but she can be a bit overwhelming. Though she may say certain things in the syllabus, expect her to make some dumb last minute move that will end up affecting your grade.
She is a great professor. I dont like literature, but she makes the class easier for you. There is a lot of reading and papers you have to write. But theyre not hard because she tells you exactly what to do and remember its a lit class. I recommend her.
I took her for both 241/242. She is very organized and gives clear grading criteria. She gave me positive feedback to prompt direction for my mid-term thesis essay. Dissect the literature and write thoughtfully. Responsive to inquiries. Weekly short lit response and DB post, 2 full essays and short final essay exam. Easy A with effort on your part.
I mean she is okay but she can come off rude and if you are unsure about something she just tells you to read the assignment. Not very helpful if your not coming straight out of HS.
Bad professor. All we do in class is talk about the readings, we didn't learn anything at all. The reading responses and essays are all done online, but we still have to attend the class to turn them in in person (even though you still have to submit the assignment online, ugh!) So you're forced to sit through a useless lecture. Waste of time.
Constantly changes the due dates of assignments. I got a zero twice because of this. It's very irritating to submit your assignment the day that the syllabus says it's due only to discover that she changed the due date. 0/10 Also I didn't just put the tag "graded on a few things" for no reason. you really are, so good luck if you mess up a paper.
I do not think she grasp's or even understands that when people opt for online classes it is because their schedule is extremely busy and most people can not get to a computer until after 6. Her writing assignments was due at 5pm. plus she grades very harsh. No make-ups, and no extension,no clarity on assignments, lots of reading, lots of writing.
She is a hard grader when it comes to essays. She doesn't teach so if looking for professor who does dont't take her. Attendance is key and mandatory in her class. She doesn't take late work and hate when your late to class. Even if you have a real excuss.
When it comes to essays, she is a tough grader. I wish she wasn't harsh because the essays can make you suffer. I find it unfair and unacceptable.
Dr. Rosecrans is solid, organized, and passionate. She has high standards and expectations. Grading and assignments are clear. Prepare to work if you want to improve your writing. This is a College Composition II class - so properly cite your research and be clear in your thesis. If you follow her guidelines, you'll be fine. No short cuts.
This teacher perpetually proved to me that she cares about the content and the engagement with students. Each instance of confusion was met with a high degree of professional response and consideration. I highly recommend her as a professor.
I wouldn't recommend this Professor. She treats you more like a child than an adult and won't be happy if you have to leave class or come in late even by a few minutes. She doesn't care what your excuse is, even if it's valid. I learned pretty much nothing in her class and it felt like a waste of time, which is a shame because I love English.
I don't know it just felt more like a high school class. Sometimes we would just end up talking about random topics in some lectures. She is really engage with the class and she did improve my writing skills. She would come off as rude when asking a question about how write your essay and not really help out with the topic
The 10-point assignments in the class were fine, but essays however are completely different. The way she grades them makes it cruel. You get many points taken off for grammatical issues and she just grades it way too hard. Emailing her was a joke too it felt like I was speaking with a friend rather than a teacher. If you can, stay away.
Professor Rosecrans is very condescending to her students. Her communication on assignments is very unclear. She has to send a group email after every assignment telling everyone what they were supposed to do because nobody is able to clearly understand what she wants. Do not take her classes unless you want to feel completely incompetent!
She never posts anything to canvas. She doesn't make any announcements. She's bad at grading. She always gave me bad grades and doesn't accept late work and she doesn't know what she's doing and she needs to retire.
if you just read all of her grading criteria it isn't that hard to get an A, shes very clear about it and if you just follow what she wants you will succeed. good professor, its an ideal online asynchronous class, she leaves you alone and you do all the work yourself, so dont expect lectures or many posts READ THE RUBRICS AND YOULL BE FINE
If you want to sit and read nothing but political papers or writings, and sometimes even more questionable political statements, this is a class that you can probably suffer through to get a good grade. I sure did.
If you show up, you will pass. We had a reading assignment for homework and would discuss it in class the next day. I don't think it was really hard, however some of the stuff we read about was too political. Time and place but she was nice.
She says she doesn't give homework but every class she gives homework.. She expects you to do things a SPECIFIC way. If you don't do it the way she asked, you'll get a zero.
Maybe its only my class but she treats her students like we are freshman in highschool
This professor is not recommended. The only thing she talks about is politics and she talks about it the whole year, not just the beginning of the year. If you love politics and want to talk about AI, surveillance, this class is for you. If you like going back to high school and suffer with a good grade, this class is for you. Do not recommend!!!
She should be a political analyst not an english professor. She loves politics, which is fine; just not what I expected in english class.
Does not care why you missed an assignment, you will get a 0. Unprofessional emails. Lots of papers and reading. Your opinions will sound stupid to her, so dont even bother talking. Always talking about politics and AI. Hates it when you leave to use the restroom or go outside to take a call, she will call you out like a Highschool student.
