Loves her job, extremely enthused all the time. Can't possibly get bored in her class. Great teacher. Just watch out for her "take-home" tests, not as good as it sounds. By the end of the semester you could have written your own history book.

very smart and interesting teacher but her class was kinda hard. I got a C and I felt like I deserved an A just because I did so much work. oh yeah.. she grades notes (who does that in college?) hope you like writing papers, they were pretty short papers though. overall great teacher, hard class.
These were my two of my favorite classes and she is my favorite teacher. She is very bright and enthused about the material. Both classes require a lot of reading and analysis. Her weekly reading quizzes are easy. Her take-home tests are also easy provided you take good in-class notes. A+++
She actually makes history intersting by putting it into stories that you can understand. It is alot of readings and all tests are done in essay form at home. I would take her again!
if anyone could be credited with making me choose history for my major while studying abroad it would be this woman. she's clever, witty, and responsible and makes a very comfortable learning atmosphere in her classes. extremely professional and fabulously dressed, if u don't take her, your loss!
Probably one of the best teachers I had. She made the information interesting and really came off as caring and enjoying what she does. I'd recommend her to anyone.
I took this teacher for the history of NJ and i liked her. She talks alot, but she really loves history. She gives alot of papers and her tests are essay form. I would take her again, she is helpful and smart. A+ in my book.

I have just finished grad school and I came back here to say, she is still the BEST teacher I had in all 7 years of school. TAKE HER!
Extremely good teacher, very helpful and always happy which keeps you enthused and motivated in class. Although there is a lot of weekly reading, most history classes are like that. Her weekly quizzes are very easy. She also gives extra credit that is fun, like visiting liberty science center if it has something to do with what you are learning.
Highly recommend, enthusiastic and helpful.
prob the most boring class i have ever taken... you have to write an essay and take a quiz every week.
Nice & helpful. Weekly readings from txtbook then answer questions for homework. 2 tests. 1 bookreview & presentation. She gives lectures w/ powerpoints and you take notes.
Clear and effective teacher. Tests are take home and quite long. Alot of reading and text book use. The class of reading and interpretation.
This is one of the best professors I've ever seen. She always give her own touch to class and we are able to learn everything. I just LOVE her.
She is not a nice person. She is a the worst teacher I've ever had. She lies and makes up stupid things like the grading policy. When your taking a test, she'll be playing on her phone and it will keep beeping during the silence. She gives too much work and you take a massive amount of notes and she NEVER lets you out early not even a minute early.
Good teacher, enjoys her topic. Get's enthusiastic about class. A lot of reading but if you read and listen it's easy. Not out early often but it's a split class (for me). Overall I would recommend her
Very good Teacher, Knows her material very well , enthusiastic, makes class interesting, ask questions and requires a lot of reading.
She is a very nice professor. She is very understanding and makes the class interesting. Class goes by fast. Highly recommend her if your taking history. Lots of reading but easy 5 question quizzes and EASY grading.
She is all over the place for 3 hours, she goes back and forth on her slide shows. Really confusing.A lot of homework! Attendance is important! Exams are rather difficult, so be prepared! Read ahead!!! She really loves teaching history, but i wouldn't recommend her.
Don't take her!I'm an A student and I'm barely passing this class! Her exams are extremely difficult!Sometimes, you have a quiz, exam and HW on the same day. It's ridiculous! So many notes and really, exams are difficult! Not everyone is a HIST major. She's nice and very smart, but this class is really hurting my GPA.
Verrrrry Pretttty! Great Class!
Took this class online...you must post weekly & do lengthy reading and essay questions. Tests were fair, multiple choice from the readings and an essay portion. Some questions were repetitive. Only take this online if you like to watch endless podcasts & read & write ALOT. She grades fair but not very consistent. Only took the class as req'd.
She was one of the better professors I had when I attended Brookdale. Her class made me more well rounded on current events and I learned a lot. A very interesting and fairprofssor. I would highly recommend her.
Amazing professor. She is very passionate to the subject taught, and explains it in a way where people are able to understand. The homework, tests, and quizzes are all based on the lectures and the book work, which are very easy to grasp. Consistent attendance and homework is required, but makes things easier.
Annoying. If you don't post something by Sunday you lose points. New assignments are on Thursdays and she's really inconvenient.
Total Disaster.
I took Women's History on-line. I loved it and Prof. Scimeca was wonderful! Through the use of text, podcasts, documentaries, and websites, you'll learn a great deal. There are interesting weekly discussion posts and written assignments. I highly recommend Prof.Scimeca. Excellent course run by an engaging, knowledgeable, inspiring professor!
AWESOME teacher! very nice & helpful. homework is mandatory, but helps you in the long run with tests!
love her! she's sooo sweet and easy to talk to with questions ! i had her for world civ and loved it ! the lectures can get a little boring but everything is straight foward
Horrible. I am one who really does work and tries my hardest to get a good grade. I took this class online and she was useless. I e-mailed her with specific questions and she responded by saying she would grade my post and then did not comment on my post.
Loved her! Shes awesome really funny breaks down the textbook in an easy way to understand. Wish i could take her again shes awesome!!!
She is a really great teacher and makes things very easy and relateable. I dont even study and I get A+'s, as long as you listen to her lecture you will do fine. Just remember to read or look over the chapters for your homework, she is a fair grader.
very nice woman, and delivers very clear lectures. You absolutely need the text book. Attendance is not a big deal, I skip her class all the time and still maintain an A.
Jane has a passion for women's studies. I enjoyed her class, the assignments were great, and she was very easy to get in tough with if you had a question. If you need something to fulfill a humanities requirement, take this class.
I recommend Scimeca! She is insanely nice and is very clear of what you need to know for tests. Read the chapters and homework, she checks it! she also reviews it in class and gives activity sheets everyday to prepare you for exams. :)
Honestly one of the best professors I've ever had! She's extremely intelligent and knows how to teach a class. You can expect homework due every week, but it's college isn't it? Also she's very understanding and is willing to help! Textbook is a necessity, along with participation. Amazing professor!
She is such an awesome professor !! Missed a couple of classes because of medical conditions and she manages to help me by emailing me what I missed . Take her ! She is the best !
She is an amazing professor! She has taught me so much and I don't even like history. I would take her again.
This class inspired me to want to learn more about history.(Im 33 & I never paid attention in HS.) She responds to e-mails quickly,is passionate about teaching and wants you to learn the material. She is a good teacher and competent of teaching online. I highly recommend. For the online class you must be disciplined and willing to read and write.
Amazing professor!! Absolutely the most amazing professor! She is beyond understanding and chill! TAKE HER FOR AN EASY A !
Nice woman and really into the subject but assigns way too much homework. Reading 2 chapters a week, along with documentary or video to watch and answer questions in paragraph form is alot on top of other classes and hw. If I knew this I wouldn't have taken it. Plus there's no breaks.
Good professor. I am not a fan of history since it was always hard to follow but I could understand what was going on in this class. The homework can be a bit hard since it is assigned to you before you learned anything about it so be careful with that. Test are pretty easy since most of the question comes directly from notes. Great class overall.
Took this class for History 106. She's great, easy homework, lots of reading though.
Professor Scimeca is a really good professor. She gives interesting lectures, and while she assigns a lot of homework, it really helps you understand the topic. Her exams are also super easy! She has a degree in Women's and Gender Studies, so she really delves into Women's History, which not a lot of other professors do.
Jane is an awesome woman! Women's history is an amazing class especially if you're a feminist, it was cool seeing two guys in my class that WANTED to be there. It's very lecture heavy, hand written notes, but very interesting! I really enjoyed this class it was nice, especially since everyone wanted to learn and was interested in the class!
She's genuinely enthusiastic about the material and that is valuable in the classroom. She'll offer extra credit and practically begs you to speak to her one-on-one if you have a problem or if you need guidance taking notes properly. This class was as much a learning experience for note-taking as it was a lesson on Women's history.
She is not a good Professor. I raise my hand during lectures and EVERY TIME she blatantly ignores my hand and continues lecturing, forcing me to not ask my question. The homework she assigns is more than my other three classes combined. Be prepared to have your eyes bleed with these readings. If you do not take good notes, prepare to fail. Awful.
Amazing Professor, really made me fall in love with history and made me so much more aware of women's role in history. SO inspiring and encouraging, as long as you put in the work you will do good.
Took an online class and there was a lot of reading every week - if you're taking online classes because you are occupied with other things, like a full-time job, you should not take this class. Although there was a lot of reading, (and a few long documentaries), the assignments were easy as long as you put in the effort.
Went in after ten year gap in my education; she teaches the material as well as basic techniques of study and note taking. She *will* help you figure this out if you don't know what you are doing. Keep lines of communication open; she's very understanding, very human. Oftentimes hilarious. She presents the curriculum with real passion and no bias.
Don't take her if you have other classes to worry about. If I had known how her teaching style truly was, I would've just done online. You do so much homework every single week that takes up so much time. Then the whole class is her going over what we already read, so it's not like shes teaching anything new. Too much workload for full time student
Professor Scimeca is a nice lady. You can reach her outside of class and she'll try and help you. But do not take this class if you are taking other classes. It's more work than one could imagine. She wants you to spend at LEAST 15 hours a week on her class alone. Which is very hard if you are a full time student with a full time job like me.
Professor Scimeca definitely puts forth a heavy workload but she is always avaible and open to help with any questions or difficulties. I am taking her online and she has accommodated me for "life stuff" on a few occasions now- she's very understanding and willing to work with you.
Too much work for a history class. Amount of homework is absolutely ridiculous. Puts students on the spot and always comes back to the shy ones that clearly don't want to participate while ignoring people who actually want to contribute. DO NOT TAKE HER.
I take online classes because I work full time and go to school full time. I spent at LEAST 20 hours a week reading 100 pages, watching 2-hour videos, and countless pages of homework WEEKLY. All of the questions that she asks are in a "how did you interpret..." and then she tells you that you are wrong, ALWAYS. DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shes a great person but she doesn't seem to grasp that as a student you have other classes to take. By far the most amount of homework I've ever had since high school. She really shouldn't be a history professor and should consider english since she is more concerned with interpreting the author then history itself. Don't take if you are a fulltime
Waste of time! I would spend 5-6 hours a week reading, watching videos, and taking notes, to go into class and simply review what we read. Notes graded thoroughly. Teaches like HS English teacher. Cares more about authors portrayal and personal interpretation. 1/2 of test questions are about author/maps as history. Poor grading rubric. AVOID!!!!!!
Ms. Scimeca wants you to participate in class, so be ready for that. She makes you take notes for each section, so be ready for a lot of writing. She is also a tough grader on your notes, so watch what you write. She seems to honestly cares about her job, so I appreciate that. She also makes you participate in class, whether you like it or not.
Never take her again. She's so difficult. She makes due date but you MUST summited a least one day before that. If not, she will take some points out. Her tests are too hard.
Almost every homework assignment is 20 pages of reading which usually translates to 4 pages of written notes. Notes are study guide for test and she gives out index cards to write on to help during the test. Has office hours and will show you others notes to show how you can improve yours. Tests aren't that bad but she doesn't give extra credit
I have her now and I want out. She's nasty with her students and gives a tremendous amount of "busy work".
I have her now and I want out. She's nasty with her students and gives a tremendous amount of "busy work". She then lectures you on the content you have already read.
One of my favorite professors, excited to take her again! Yes, there is a lot of work, but the same amount is expected each week so it gets easier over time. Needed an extension when I was sick and she gave it to me; she was so understanding! I used to hate History, but her assignments made it interesting! This class makes you feel accomplished!
She gives ALOT of homework ( which i find helpful for studying ) but what I dont find helpful is the fact that she literally re-reads everything you did for homework right back to you during class, theres no new information being taught to me. She also isn't very clear w instructions for homework and grades ( too ) harshly in my opinion.
She is an amazing human being, she cares deeply about her students and wants them to succeed. Her classes are reading and note-taking intensive, she wants you to make handwritten outlines of the chapter's main points for every class and it can be difficult if you're detail oriented, however, she gives you a lot of feedback on how to do them.
She is very opinionated and tries to put her own spin on history. If you prefer to learn facts and not a biased retelling of history please consider taking this class with another professor. The class itself was very easy but it is irritating to hear a professor add in details that do not exist.
do not take her.
She lets you use a notecard on her tests and tells you exactly whats on the test, even the opened ended questions too. But, this class requires a TON of reading ( takes about 3 hours a week). Getting an A is very achievable but you have to put in the work.
I loved her womens history class! Shes a great professor and the assignments were interesting. It was a lot of reading but the discussions we got to do were cool. She even gave us extra credit to go to the movies. I would take her again.
One of my favorite professors I've had. She made the material super interesting to learn and I looked forward to her class every time. We were allowed to use 1 notecard on every test, which were short responses. A lot of reading for homework but it's worth taking the class. Very clearly passionate about her work and cares a lot for her students.
I have hated history my whole life because I'm terrible with it. This class changed my whole view. Professor Scimeca is AMAZING!!! Any time I had a question I emailed her and she answered nearly right away she really cares about her students and the work is so easy if you just read! Midterms and Finals are simple! Highly recommend!!
awesome class & great prof! normal ammt of reading for a history class. ur allowed to use a note card on all 3 tests. no papers, but u answer 3 questions for each class in accordance to the textbook. we had a "podcast" project which was different, but fun tbh. super interesting class and prof scimeca knows her stuff! loved this class so so much.
Do not take this teacher unless u want time to do literally nothing else. This class is required otherwise no one would be here. She give tons of homework and talks OVER the three hour class schedule. Its brutal. Its history not law. She gives homework like this is our major. Its crazy and avoid her at all costs
Gives SO much homework beware. She literally wants you to teach yourself the lesson so she doesnt do any work when you comei in the class. Dont do it.
She was one of the more demanding profs I've had at BCC but her class was also one of the most rewarding I took. There is a ton of small work throughout the year but very little in terms of major projects, and the major projects are very easy. She genuinely cares about her students and that we get the subject. Would def. take again.
She makes u teach urself and all she does is talk about it in class but she herself teaches nothing. Look for someone else i promise im saving you
Professor Scimeca is amazing! I took two of her classes and genuinely enjoyed them. She gives great lectures and cares about her students!
This was by far my most demanding class and it was extremely stressful. The homework assignments take hours upon hours, as well as the "quizzes." It's shame because I think if this class was structured differently I would've really enjoyed it. It's difficult to absorb the information when the only way your taught is through reading and watching.
I have history 105 and she's actually a nice teacher. I don't know why there's so much hate. She does have you do a lot of notes so don't miss class. You are graded by participation, homework (about 2, not hard), class notes (with textbook), and exams. With the exam, she gives you a notecard as your cheat sheet. Do all that and you'll be fine.
Not a bad professor just a lot of work. Don't really understand how it makes sense to read the chapter and do the homework before the lecture because you're basically just teaching yourself. The lecture is 2 hours and 45 minutes and she goes on for the ENTIRE time without a break. Not worth the workload if you're just taking it for a requirement.
Very easy and interesting class. Content was pretty easy and professor clearly explained all content.
My favorite professor at this school! She has such a passion for what she is teaching and loves to get to know your interests so you can get the most out of the class. She really cares! She does assign a lot of homework but it's mostly videos and podcasts, things you can listen to while doing other homework, along with open notes quizzes.
Professor Scimeca is a great professor. The course is really enjoyable. The only thing I will note, make sure you have time. Heavy amounts of homework. Working full time can be challenging with this course.
Nice teacher, easy class, tests are not hard.
Felt very safe in this class. Scimeca does really care for her students. Homework included watching numerous podcasts/videos/movies or reading articles/primary sources and taking notes on them. Very time consuming and slightly overwhelming. Tests are open notes and not hard.
I've never written a review on here before but Prof S deserves the shoutout. Seriously one of my favorite professors I've ever had. Read the chapter before you go to class you'll be fine. Read the chapter before the lecture and you'll be fine. She's really funny and smart, and it feels like you're being taught by your cool aunt. Love prof s
Loved this class. Prof Simeca is really nice & wants you to succeed. HW is just taking handwritten notes on assigned materials (sorta time consuming, usually involves watching a documentary) but the material was always very interesting, never boring IMO. Comes in handy anyway- quizzes are open note. Definitely learned a lot, would recommend!
