EXCELLENT CLASS, STUDY GUIDES, OUTSTANDING LECTURES
class and teacher are all bad; nice lady but she puts you to sleep
No Comments
sooo boring, might be hard to go to class! .. nice teacher though..
No Homework, but Hard Tests (even with study guides).Very Nice and Smart Teacher
class hard to sit through, I studied a lot and still got a C
Fair class, but very boring. Hard to come to class knowing how boring she is.
Study old tests!! and quizes!
Hella boring...hes quizs are easy and test are hard but blunt
very boring class, study old exams and answer questions on study guide
VERY boring, not too hard, but very boring
boring but if you study you get an A
Very boring lectures, easy A if you study, easy C if you sleep in class
Study guides for Test, go to class, no reading ness...pretty interesting...
Covers a lot of material; pay attention and take notes; Great instructor!
this class is so damn boring, and there is so much material. I cannot amagine a worse class.
easy C, if u dont go to class
She has a slight attitude sometimes but otherwise pretty straight forward teacher. Class is boring and tests are hard. There is a lot of material and everything is culmative.

Covers alot of material, good informative lectures. Has a term paper, tests are long but fair. Take good notes! Do not need the text. I learned alot in this class!
so boring, i kept falling asleep! its not hard to get a good grade though, just pay attention to lectures.
she can be boring, but listening and taking good notes in class will help you study for the tests. Make sure you attend class cause thats the only way you would get a good grade. the book isnt really required. i recommend
she is a great teacher. very easy material and she explains everything well. don't bother buying the study guide, you wont need it. she is a very nice lady.
lectures are long but the tests come directly from them. take good notes and you'll do well. E/C is really easy, dont buy a book and try to go to class.
She is really boring but nice. The book is confusing, so lecture notes help. The tests and quizzes are all taken from the study guides she gives out. The study guides are very helpful. Info is from both lecture and book. A lot of E.C.
Just go to the lectures and you'll get an A. Tests are all based o the lectures, you don't have to read the book.
Great lecturer, very passionate about fire. Nice lady, doesn't like when people are late. She has tough tests but covers all the material in class lectures.
dont buy the book. tests are easy, but lecture is extremely boring. easy A though
Take this class credit/no credit. As boring as the class is if you show up every day you'll get about 20 extra credit points that go a long ways. Her material is straight forward, tests aren't too bad. I recommend her. Its just boring material period.
Don't buy the book. Lectures are boring but necessary for tests. Just go to class everyday and study the notes and you'll get the easy A I got. The extra credit comes in handy if you don't show up. Her hair is cool.
I enjoyed this class very much. She's very knowledgeable, focused and organized. Power point is the best thing to ever happen to in-class note taking, and what's even better- all of them are also posted online. Study guides and xtra credit points!
Dont buy book, show up, take notes, notes posted online too, in class extra credit, tests and quizzes. STUDY! I took this class twice.
Never used the book once, dont need it. Class is HARD if you dont listen to lectures... and the material is beond boring and useless. Study material as often as possible and class should be easy, impossible to cramm it all in the day before a test.
Pretty easy class, just study the powerpoints she leaves on blackboard. They are the same ones she uses in lecture and the tests come from them.
Her class is pretty boring but you have to go in order to get a good grade. Easy class is you understand the material. Some test questions are even common sense! Not a bad teacher but so boring
Dont buy the book! All lecture notes are online, but go to class for a lot of extra credit. tests arent that bad if you pay attention.
if you're gonna take geography, take her, not Tague
go to every class, not only because of the random extra credit she gives (in class only), but she goes over the power point lectures. oh yea, by the way DONT buy the book. save your money, because every bit of info you need is on blackboard, powerpoint style.
Dr. Thorngren is a great professor. Geog is not my major, and I wasn't looking forward to taking this class, but I had to for Explorations. It turned out to be one of my favorite classes. The info is useful, she's interesting, and the tests are not hard. Don't bother with the book, go to lecture!
Will be the MOST boring class you ever take. Gives extra credit at the end of class sometimes, but hard to make it that long. Prof. is nice, but monotonous, and boring when teaching. Try to take something else if you can. Don't buy book.
I thought Geography would be a boring subject until I took her class. It has been very interesting and her class is not hard. She gives extra credit, drops your lowest Quiz score and the tests are a breeze if you go to lecture or read from the online power points. The book is very helpful as well.
easy class... quizzes are cake but her tests are hard so study for them
Great teacher. Boring class. She really knows the subject though and conveys that to her students. Her quizzes are extremely easy, but tests are hard. Just study the notes, which are on blackboard, for quizzes and tests and you will be fine. Really no need to go to class except quiz and test days. Gives extra credit in class so go to class for it.
This class is pretty straight forward. To do well you should go everyday. Her study guides are really helpful, if you missed a day of notes, use wikipedia online or a search engine...Dont buy the book!!! Very easy to get at least a "B". If you are someone who wants a better understanding of environmentalism, take this class!!!
Excellent lecturer. Her powerpoint notes on blackboard are exactly what she uses in class in most cases. She is very clear and organized. I have had her for 2 classes and would take her again if I could for a required class. She conveys no political bias at all and gives many sides to controvercial topics.
Professor Thorngren is very nice and fair. Her multiple-choice tests are easy unless you want an A. She gives random extra credit if you show up to class, a total of 20 points. She even drops the lowest quiz score. Don't buy the book, lectures are online.
I really liked the way she lectured. A lot of people found her boring, but can you blame her? She has to teach a class to freshmen who dont give a @$%& about the class anyway. Slides are great, go to class for the extra credit, dont really need the book if you pay attention. If you can take her for upper division classes. Very Very knowledgable.
Not a thrilling class but fairly easy.. The notes are all online and the study guides have everything you need to know for the tests. DON'T BUY THE BOOK! I didn't and I got an A.
this class is pretty easy. the slides from her very-boring lectures are online, so you dont have to go. but if you want some extra credit, you should. grades are always posted the day of (sometimes hours after) taking a test or quiz. she is pretty consistent. she is generally very knowledgeable. but....she looks like a troll
Class is pretty easy, I got an A but i did go to all the classes and got all of the extra credit. Not very interesting, but what do you expect for a geography.
Professor Thorngren is nice and the class is very straightforward. Test questions are based on powerpoint lectures and some book reading. Book not required. Test questions are fairly easy. Extra credit for attendance.
Boring, but easy class. I never went and got a B. Puts all her lectures online and tests are straight from lecture. I recommend taking it.
Don't buy the study guide. You hardly need the book all the animations and notes are posted online. Test questions come straight from lecture. Study strictly lecture notes and you will do great. I got an A in the class but its a lot of memorizing and I went to every lecture.
The lectures were pretty boring she repeatedly goes over things. but atleast youll get it. the quizes were so easy and test too. she gives you a study guide for everything. You dont really need the book and lecture motes are online if you miss class. this class is an easy A if you just study alittle bit and she puts old exam questions of new exams
easy class overall. quizzes, exams and finals all focused mainly on the study guide she hands out. gives many extra credit to boost up your grade as well. really kind hearted lady, patient, and sincere. those majoring in Social Science like myself, id say take her. it will definately make ur gpa go up a huge difference.
easy no book needed
Class was very easy. I just wanted to respond to the person that says she looks like a troll. Thats messed up and uncalled for. She is a good person, so who cares what she looks like? You are very shallow and will probably end up alone in this life. Plus, you do understand that teachers read these, right? That could hurt somebody's feelings.
Quite clear in lectures, class still seems to be a bit of re-hash from earlier classes though. Most of the material is common sense and logic, but still interesting. Good teacher with moderate philosophical ability
i thought the class was pretty interesting. her quizzes and tests were easy if you study her powerpoint notes. she's really nice and helpful.
Very interesting class. There are five quizzes on reading, three exams (multiple choice and three short essay questions) study guide provided. Cummlative final. And a term paper that is single- spaced 3-4 pages long. Pretty easy.
Definetly a good teacher to take for a GE creditted class. She is nice and her tests are right from the powerpoint notes. I studied 15 minutes before each test/quiz and still got a B. I definetly recommend her.
Everything is really clear. Tests are straight from the powerpoint notes. I, personally, didn't go to class often or buy the book and still did well.
Fantastic woman who truly wants her students to do well. Don't need the book, just print the powerpoint slides off the website and add notes as she goes through the lectures. Gives tons of extra credit. Study your lecture notes and slides and you'll have an easy A.
very cool...i didnt study till the last test...if i had known that studying is efficient i would have got an A in the class...review ur notes...you get an A...i got a C but it was my fault...you need the book...be cool..stay in school...dont do drugs
THE CLASS IS EASY... THE TEACHER IS GREAT..
okay so shes a good teacher and all, but if you have problems paying attention already, dont take her. her voice is monotone and lectures are soooo boring. the times i actally did go to class i immediately fell asleep. the notes are online, only go to class for unpredictable extra credit. review the notes, go over the book and youll get an A or B.
easy teacher if you love powerpoints and dont need explanations. go to class for extra credit and it helps b/c she gives a lot of free points this way. tests are easy and based on pwerpoint only. only complaint is she's kind of boring but she's passionate about the material. Take it for a rather easy A.
This class was pretty easy. She doesn't take attendance, but sometimes gives out unannounced 2 pt. extra credit opportunities for those who come to class. Midterms and exams are all multiple choice and powerpoint notes usually posted online. Easy A or B class if you at least attempt to do well.
What should have been an easy GE credit was the most tideous frustrating class ever. She makes the material so dull and boring!! I could not stay awake !!! i swear going to this class was like pulling teeth.. i would never take this prof. again.
She is very straight forward and a little boring, but very easy. All of your in class notes are from power point slides, all of which she posts on blackboard. I hardly attended class, but I filled out her study guides as soon as I got them and came out with an A.
Dont buy the textbook or study guides! all you need to do is print out the lectures take notes on them and do her 20 question study guides!! this class is extremely easy and if you go to class you will get an A! and she gives 20 pts of extra credit! and she drops your lowest quiz! take her!
Class is relatively easy. You don't ever use the book, so don't worry about buying it. Each class is a pp lecture. She gives a lot of information. Take notes and do all the quizzes and tests and you will do just fine!
Nice professor. Lectures are straight forward, their full of info. but she keeps it pretty interesting. Tests are easy if you make an effort to go to class and take good notes. Some notes are online, but most lectures were not. Textbook used for small quizzes, not really neccessary and 1 quiz dropped. Easy A or B if you try. I enjoyed this class.
Great teacher, she knows how to explain theories, while keeping your interest. If you like Geography, then this is the class for you.. if you don't stay away. The book is pretty much useless, just take GOOD notes and pay attention in class. She gets pretty dull at times, but that goes with the material.. some days you may get bored or excited.
TAKE THIS CLASS! THIS CLASS IS SO EASY! DO NOT buy the book!! go to class to get the extra credit...there's enough room for u to fall asleep b/c u will...print out the notes and take the practice quizzes online they really help....she is really nice and very helpful if u need it...easy A or B!
I think Thorngren does an admirable job and even though half the class usually never came most days except for quizzes and tests I think she made me like Geography a lot more. I didn't think it was this cool. Don't take it just because it's easy. Take it because you can learn something.
Took this class only so I can be full time. As a junior, it was really easy and I stopped reading the text after the first test. All tests are cumulative, but just study the previous test since it's the same questions (about 10 previous questions per test). She seem really enthusiastic about what she teaches, even showed up during the fire...
BEST AND NICEST TEACHER EVER!!!!
:] She's a VERY nice professor! Though you might fall asleep in her class... but going to her class and taking notes can help you do well in class so I recommend that you attend her class (there's an extra credit once a week too)! I actually had fun taking her quizzes and exams! Take her class. You feel smarter after knowing all the materials!
Great teacher! She somehow makes this class interesting and makes the class as easy on the student as possible (power point slides online and easy to follow notes with animations, etc.) No surprises on the quizzes or tests and no homework!
Nice professor, but boring!! you need the textbook for the quizzes, they are ok, overall i got a B
took an online course. she was really helpful especially because this online course conflicts with another live lecture class i was taking. It was very convenient to reach her by email i would always get a response the same day. Take her! class is doable :]
DO NOT TAKE HER ONLINE CLASS!!! she's extremely new to having the class completely online and I found it extremely confusing and way more work than a normal class. She only makes the tests and live lectures available for one hour one day a week...you must work your schedule around her class, not the other way around like online classes typically a
Easy class. You have to go for the clicker points, but if you get 80% of the clicker points she gives you full credit. Boring subject, just do the studyguides she gives out and you'll have everything you need for the tests. 6 online quizzes, open book, really help your grade.
i took the online class and the quizzes were easy. You have a week to finish an assignment but the test although she would easily change it for you.
Seems like a super cool lady. I took the online course so I'm not entirely sure, but she was extremely helpful and responsive and seems like she genuinely cares about her students. Awesome and clear powerpoint presentations, biggest problem I had was forgetting about online assignments with deadlines. Just stay on top of those and you'll be fine.
Don't take this class. I'm not a science person and she made this class boring boring boring. You have to attend for clicker points and tests were way too hard and you have to know absolutely everything and more to ace her tests. Unless you love science and geography dont take this class.
She was a great teacher!!!!! I learned a lot and her tests are really easy. If you pay attention in class you should be fine.
Great upper GE/cultural diversity class. Pros: Online quizzes & video assignments are incredibly easy. Books are needed for the quizzes bc of the maps but otherwise no reading required at all. Clicker pts for attendance w/ occasional EC. Go to lecture then read the slides & go over the study guide before the exams & an A is almost guaranteed.
Continuation of the last review. Cons: I don't know if it was her, the comfortable seats, or a combination but I'd always want to just fall asleep 20 minutes into class, each & every time. Overall, though, this is a great class to take.
Was pretty straight forward. Have to attend class to get clicker points though...I wasn't too good with that. Boring class and she didn't make it too much more interesting but helped with study guides. Have to review old tests though since there are review questions from previous tests. Overall was an alright class.
This class had easy video assignments, map quizzes, and whole bunch of extra credit! She uses clickers also for attendance. I would highly suggest studying a lot for the midterms (2 of them) and the final (cumulative) cause they are HARD. She gives study guides but it doesn't help as much. Overall this class wasn't too bad except for the tests.
Took the online course. Tons of material covered, so the online lectures were long. Take as many notes as you can (even if it takes time) because tests are directly from them with a bit from the book. Do all the quizzes, it really pays off. Hard work in terms of time required, but not a hard class.
The class was extremely boring. The tests were hard. you have to know everything for the test.
Took the course online, every easy if you keep up with deadlines and can do work in your own time. Tests are based off modules and text book. Very good teacher, very helpful. If you want to take this as a g.e. and you are a prompt person take this class! Very simple instructions! Just have to put in the work
She provided a lot of different grading activities (clicker questions, map quizzes, in class work, etc) to help student make better grades. The test are more difficult, but if you attend class, she gives out study guides, and they're not too difficult to pass. She is friendly and easy to talk to during office hours.
She explains all topics in a very clear, straightforward way. There is quite a bit of lecture material but she posts the slides and gives excellent studyguides (no more or less than what you need to know). Don't buy the course reader; some relevant articles but never on the exam. Several assignments but she grades very leniently. Take this class!
I took the class online; fairl easy if you stay on schedule and take all the quizzes! Some extra credit is offered, but a lot of it was only during the live online sessions. As someone with no interest in science, I would recommend this course if you're just looking for GE credit.
Took this class online and it was just alright. Very little flexibility in terms of when you could complete assignments. Tests were given online at two different times on thursdays, you couldn't just take the test when you were ready. Modules opened at random times instead of just being available for you to complete at your convenience.
Online class was easy! Got an A. Modules are due throughout the week, just watch the video and take notes on them. Only used the textbook for the reading quiz portion of the module. Tests are not bad if you watch the modules and take good notes. Tests are Thursday and only 2 times are available. If you're on top of your stuff this class is an easy A.
Thought it would be an easy online. NOT. Test Questions come from small details AND book. Must use the book. BB and Wimba activity points add up if you miss them. But I guess it was better than taking it in person... Still didn't like it. Got a B.
easy, modules are interesting, you must watch them if you want to do well in the class.
Although the material was interesting, I found the tests to be very hard and that they had little to do with the lectures and book. The questions were very specific and looking up answers is very time consuming so if you're going to take this class be sure to take really clear and organized notes! Also do every module, those points really add up
She gives a study guide, but even with it, I found her test were a bit difficult. The modules are easy (You get 3 chances to score a 100%), yet time consuming. Do well on all the quizzes, and you will pass the class even if you do not do well on the exams.
Do not buy the textbook, only the Mastering Access (do not even buy the ebook- you will not use it). I earned an "A" in the class by printing out her lecture PPT slides, taking notes during the modules, and taking the quizzes w notes. Exams are difficult if you dont study. Do the study guide & know where diff concepts are located in your notes.
Took this online. The class was not difficult, but it is time consuming. Be prepared to spend a good amount time reviewing the modules.
I highly recommend this class. Modules take time but are structured to make learning the information easy. If you pay attention and take notes during the module, you wont need the book and do well on the test.
Great Instructor. Very knowledgable on the subject and speaks clearly and concisely. Highly Recommended.
The textbook was expensive including the online access. The information is easy to remember. Attendance taken but not a huge part of the grade. If you do the online assignments and study some, you should be able to do just fine on the exams.
Great teacher! Took this over the summer and it was hard while working full time because it is a lot of work, but if you take good notes and take your time on the modules you'll do great on the tests! Homework also helps your grade a lot. Very fair grades and tests are not hard if you're organized. Also do all extra credit opportunities!
Excellent! Got an A's during the summer session. However, there was quite a lot of works you need to do. Keep doing modules carefully! Exams are not difficult if you watch every module and take notes. Extra credit is a lot and most of them are hiding in the module. In sum, a very great professor!
She is the type of professor that hides the answers in the fine print, which makes for very tricky tests. This class takes ALL of your time, would not recommend unless you do not have a life. It is by far the hardest online class I have ever taken
Easy A. Grab your coffee, listen to lectures and take notes. Then do a 10-question quiz on the lecture(you get an hour!). Then use your notes for the 4 exams. Takes some time but so straight-forward. Great online class.
The modules are tedious and you'll rarely have any time for any other classes. The book along with the lab are pricey but I just bought the previous edition which only cost me $8.
Modules take forever and are boring. Tests are difficult, the study guides are not helpful . If you want an A you will have to spend A lot of time taking notes and studying. I never studied and still ended up with a B
I am very passionate about physical geography and environmental science and taking this course for my GE was a wonderful decision. The workload isn't even that bad, Comm103 has more online homework & that's not even an online course. I went to Dr. Thorngren's office hours & she was very helpful. I 100% recommend taking her.
She has very hard tests, one of the hardest classes i have ever taken. Sh assigns say homework modules, however her tests are more than difficult.
One of the worst teachers I have ever had. She makes no sense in class and even if you study for her tests they are extremely difficult.
Great class to take online. I'm pretty bad at science but I got an A. Just sit down, watch the modules and take the quizzes. As long as you do about one per day, you'll be fine. Just be sure to take notes on each module, make sure you do all the quizzes and you'll be fine. Modules are boring? Guess what! It's college, deal with it!
4 tests which are cumulative in the sense that the test includes a handful of review questions from the previous ones. attendance mandatory for Clicker points. Be wary of the module deadlines! Towards the end of the sem, about 3-5 modules would be open so keep an eye on that. Otherwise great class. Just do the study guide and know vocab terms
Took this class because I heard it was an easy GE for science with a lab. The lab was easy enough but this class was a pain in the ass. Was expecting an A from the reviews I heard about it and ended up with my first C I have ever received in my life. I studied hours on end for the tests but still never could manage to get above an 80.
Very easy class. Professor was very clear and precise about everything that was required for the course. If you watch all the modules and don't wait till the last minute to do them, then you shouldn't have a problem with this class.
I think that watching the modules really helped in this class, even though they could be very boring. I also printed out the slide show documents and added my own notes; this was also useful for the assignments and the tests. She states that you will not have time to google stuff during the tests, but I always did and had plenty of time.
Although her lectures can drag on, Thorngren is very clear and she covers all the test material in class. As long as you take good notes and do all the modules, you should be fine. Tests are not hard but there's a lot to know so make sure to do the study guide because it covers exactly what will be on the test. Go to class for the clicker points.
The content is interesting but class is terrible. Exams are extremely difficult, even though they are all online. You get 1 hr to complete 50 questions and you can't go forward or back. The learning modules take a lot of time and still aren't very helpful. He really doesn't work with you at all either, I recommend taking a different professor.
Do not take this class!! The tests are extremely difficult even though they are online. You have 60 minutes for 50 questions and you can not go forward or back. The professor is very strict and will not help you in anyway whatsoever. The content is very interesting but this class is awful. Hardest online class I have ever taken.
I took Geography online with her and it was super easy. There is a lot of homework and quizzes and you have to do well on them to do good in the class. but her exams are really easy. would highly recommend you take this class to fulfill any req's.
Super easy upper division class! There is A LOT of easy work: homeworks, quizzes, video quizzes! Tests are easy, if you listen in class and go over powerpoints. Everything is straight forward. Lectures are boring but overall, no reason to NOT get an A.
This class is an easy A if and only if you write down EVERY WORD SHE SAYS. She will test you on 90% things she said that were not written down in powerpoints. Screenshot every picture, she will test you on the pictures. Extra credit offered in modules, but not written down, so make sure you actually listen to what she says or you won't hear the EC
I took the online version of Geography 101 from Thorngren. Her pre-recorded module lectures are top-rated, since quizzes and exams are based on those lectures. As a result, the geography textbook is optional, since all knowledge for quizzes and exams are in the lectures.
I was definitely not a fan. She was always rude while responding to emails and did not seem to care about the students at all. I felt that she just wanted the class to be over.
There were modules every week, and you will probable spend less than an hour completing them. I NEVER USED THE TEXTBOOK. Exams are based on the module videos, those are your classes. If you download the pdfs and actually watch the modules, you will get an A. I didn't really do that for the last 2 exams, so I got a B.
This class has the potential to be really interesting and enjoyable, however the instructor was TERRIBLE. She was beyond dull, gave zero acknowledgment to students, verbal lecture content was closely bordering offensive and ill-informed, with actual course content and power point information being extremely out-dated. Lack of interest and passion.
The book was unnecessary but I had to listen to the module videos and look at the pdf notes. Modules were easy to do but you should pay attention to the due dates. Tests were not like most online class tests are, you can't google all the answers up.
Such boring course. Nice professor but the course is just BORING. Monotone voice. Was so excited for this class but its so boring. No enthusiasm to even do the quizzes. Sorry Professor.
Online class that does not have a heavy workload. Her lectures are roughly 20 minutes long but she is monotone. Typically 3 quizzes are given per module; 13 modules exist in the course. Students are given multiple chances to retake quizzes. Tests are hard, giving only an hour to complete 45 multiple choice & 5 short answer/essays.
Easy A. Go to class, do the homework, do the study guides, guaranteed A. You don't use the textbook, except for the maps inside, those will be on the HW and on the test. Thorngren is nice and knowledgeable. She allows test make ups if you can't make it. Gives EC sometimes, so go to class, and listen closely to the videos. 10/10, would recommend
Lots of blackboard quizzes taken throughout the course. There were some in-class participation activities. If you're good at geography the class is a breeze, if you're not into geography you will need to put in a lot of work for memorization.
Book is needed for online class since some assignments only open up through the book. SHe's interested in topics, and knowledgeable. Lectures are good and basically all that's in quizzes and tests. If listen to lectures and or read lecture pdf should be ok. Interesting class
This is a hybrid-online course. The short classroom lectures keep my attention focused just long enough and the online lectures/work aren't too demanding. I recommend putting in a decent amount of effort into studying for the tests however, especially if you're not too familiar with the basics of conservation science.
Don't take this class if you're looking for an easy GE, it's not! Her quizzes and tests are pretty complex, and require thoroughly watching the lecture videos and searching throughout the TWO texts that are required. They're not so bad if you have a passion for European Geography, but if you don't then I'd pass on this one.
I took the online class and it's pretty easy. Personally, I bought the book and ended up not using it once and I still did well, but it can definitely help.
Wayyy too much work for an online GE of all courses. So many modules, so many video lectures to watch about a TON of details, so many quizzes/pearson Qs. It's a crap ton of busy work, and she doesn't care about any excuses, so if you don't do a module before 10pm, watch out grade! You won't learn a thing but you'll waste a ton of time to get an A.
Took the online class & it was really easy, but time consuming. You do not need the textbook at all. Tests are based off of all the info she gives in her modules & the homework. If you want to get As on the test I would advise you to type your notes, & put ALL of the HW answers in a quizlet & ctrl +F because there are repeated ?s on the test
Hybrid course. Go to class for clicker points and pay attention to the lectures and online modules and you'll do fine. There is a decent amount of studying needed for the tests but she is very straight forward of what is expected!
Didn't think this class was hard. What one might consider difficult is keeping up with the modules, some are longer than others - time management. The module work itself is not hard (most of the answers are on quizlet). Save all of your quizzes as PDFs and use them during exams. Offers extra credit points for simple answers thru email.
If I ever got another chance to take a class with her, I would. No complaints. You can plan out your entire semester according to the syllabus and calendar she gives out and that also makes it so there shouldn't be excuses as to why your module wasn't done on time; you have at least a week to get through it and multiple attempts. Take her, learn.
I have never learned so much in my life until going to this class. Some of the topics are difficult but she's funny and so great at explaining phenomena and ideas. You need time management as the modules are long sometimes but I would recommend her to anyone that wants to really learn.
The modules are time consuming. The answers are not online SO TAKE GOOD NOTES! I recommend taking them on a document so u can pull it up during the exam. I also recommend doing the extra credit. An A is a 90%! Copy the quizzzes onto the same document because there are repeats of questions on the exams
Very easy A if you are willing to watch all the modules and take very detailed notes. But if you do this, basically just use your notes to help you take the tests and youre guaranteed an A. Also plenty of extra credit!
Too much information given in too many lectures. She will teach students like they're majoring in geography. She talks too fast because shes reading a script. She "warns us" the week she gives a lot of work (almost always too much). Never needed the book but she said it's required. It's not worth taking with her, try a better alternative.
Prof Jane reminded me of my granny, sweet and humorous. The class itself is really straight forward and fairly interesting. For those of you who really know geography its an easy A. If not then the only thing to really for is the map questions. i enjoyed her class and I would take another class with her in a heartbeat.
I enjoyed the class and this teacher. The work and tests were straightforward. She does do clicker points but they are not a huge portion of the grade. She also offers extra credit, however, they were like easter eggs hidden in her recorded lecture for the online homework, so if you don't at least skim through those you will miss the opportunities.
You will be doing loads, LOADS of homework. Get ready to make Geo 101 your life. A completely unnecessary amount of work and it is almost comical to see how much she thinks we need to study. Don't take this class if you like your freedom and time.
I took the summer online course in 6 weeks. There was something due everyday. Lectures and heavy and take a while if you are try to take notes long with them. She provides extra credit but it is only 1 point so it doesn't help at all. Tests are extremely hard and you don't even have time to think, because she gives you 60 questions in 60 minutes.
Not worth it at all. Way too much work for a GE. She expects you to give up your life just to pass in this class. Lectures are way too dense and modules contain about 5 videos each with a quiz for each video. She gives no time to take the tests and doesn't consider students who are taking other classes.
Thorngren is not friendly. She teaches the class as though it is the most important thing in the world. If you have to take Geography as a GE, take this online. The grading material is clear, but there is a lot. 10-15 modules with 3-6 sections each, quizzes and exams too.
Thorngren is a joke. You're teaching a 101 ENTRY LEVEL GE class, not geography majors - probably because there are none - and your class doesn't inspire anyone to want to learn anything more about geography than they have to. An unreasonable amount of work. Thorngren is the type of professor who goes out of their way to make your life hard.
I took this as a 6 week summer course and man it's a lot more work than I originally imagined. I took this along with another course and I had to work for hours each day. Very intense. But after a super intense course I may end up with an A. So it's doable... just get ready to have patience and time set aside.
To all the people complaining. It is a summer class , it is meant to be fast paced what id yall expect? I had no problem doing well in this class and I had a part time job! Prof Thorn is probably the best prof I had at state. Yall must be some freshmen.
She gives ALOT of homework and the modules are ridiculously long. If you take this class you have to spend a lot of time working on it. I spent hours working on stuff for this class and I still only got a B.
She's a sweet lady and really knows her stuff, gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. there's clicker points every class, and many online assignments, tests can be intense but if you follow the study guide and pay attention throughout class leading up to test it's not too bad. Really cool prof overall.
This class SUCKS. I honestly hated this class so much, the amount of work required for each module, TERRIBLE. This is a 100 level GE class and she acts like shes curing the aids epidemic. I spent hours prepping for the stupid tests and the modules, the best way to pass is to copy and paste all the module questions into a Drive file to use later.
For the hybrid class, Thorngren would put part of the lectures online and have us do them for homework but many times she would reteach the online material and then test us on stuff we had to teach ourselves. The tests were specific and she expected us to know absolutely everything about every topic. And it is definitely not just maps!
Weekly online homework but it's all easy. Just do the homework, pay attention, and study a bit before the exams and its an easy A
Jane Thorngren's class is extremely difficult -- one of the most difficult online classes I've ever taken in my life. Her feedback is terrible, the modules are tedious, and the exams are ridiculously hard. However, most of the answers are easy to find online.
She might be one of the most helpless professors Ive ever had. Its an online class and the tests are nearly impossible to get an A. The study guide and videos dont help you at all when it comes to exam questions. My class on average gets a C on every exam and when we emailed for help she just said if my in person class can do it so can you guys.
Dude, just do not. It's not worth it man, trust me. The class *seems* easy but it's not. Like the module quizzes are pretty easy if you watch the videos but there's one or two or more every week. Don't even get me started on the exams. 50 Qs, 60 mins and it's so hard unless you remember everything/ take VERY detailed notes. She's not very helpful.
Prof makes big deal about how "google doesn't know the answers" but if you've got half a brain they're not hard to find. The only time I used the textbook was to find answers to the CA field guide questions, a little harder to google. Otherwise, I always looked up answers. Save mod vid links for exams & you can skim them for image question answers.
Probably the worst class I've ever taken. Tests are EXTREMELY hard and cover so much material.
I worked really hard- watched all the modules, took very detailed notes etc &still got a B. Overall, its not really a hard course but you have a super short time limit for exams (1hr for 50 q's) and you can't go back to questions- this makes it more difficult. You have to be on top of it-she's really strict on deadlines. i used thebook like 3 times
Do not take this class thinking it will be an easy 100 class. While the content is fairly easy, it is a VERY time consuming class. The lectures are long and monotonous and you have to watch them as there are quizzes after each one. Pro tip: speed up her lecture videos to x1.5 and it will be a little easier to stay awake. Take notes!
This class is a lot of work. Make sure to take really good notes while watching her lecture. She has 4 exams and there is really no room for error if you want an A. She gives some extra credit don't count on it helping that much. Quiz after every module. A lot of work and need to pay very close attention, almost needing to take word for word notes.
I took notes on every chapter to fully understand the concepts. This was a little hard to maintain at times but worth it. Study guides for every test. Most if not all answers to tests are on quizlet. It will be your best friend. The quizzes are mandatory to pass. Lots of due dates to track and quiz answers are on quizlet too. Recorded lectures.
Some extra credit. Prof. Thorngren is very easy to get in contact with and very kind. If you enjoy science this classes content is very entertaining. Tests/module quizzes make up grades and 90% of answers are on quizlet. You will do good studying and taking notes on the module videos or the book. Study guide great for tests! Need a notebook!
Thorngren is dry and very monotone. I found her lectures very boring. Her presentations need to be updated. I imagine she hasn't updated her lectures in YEARS. She is not very relatable and doesn't have much of a personality. This class has module homework and 4 exams. There is some extra credit offered. Everything is on quizlet. I did C/NC
Prof. Thorngren was very nice. She was very accessible and always prompt.
Don't take her class if you have a hard time with online classes. I like online classes but I hate her structure. The worst part of her class is that you will never know what your grade is because she has it locked since the first day of school. The modules itself are easy to do but the exams are hard, she tries to trick you in the questions
I've taken her for both GEOG 101 & 370, one of which was online and the other was in person. I would definitely recommend her if you are willing to go to class. Class isn't mandatory per-se but she has clicker questions for each class that you wouldn't want to miss.
Easy to get an A if you put in the work to read the chapters and Modules. Gets super stressful as it is a lot of reading and weekly quizzes.
I did not wear my seatbelt driving to school because I wanted to die before coming to this class. Please do not take this class save yourself the stress.
This class wasn't horrible but definitely wasn't easy. I took the hybrid course so half of the information was through modules and the other half from in-person lecture. Modules were easy if you take notes on lectures. Didn't use the textbook once and I was fine. Tests are pretty straight forward if you review the study guides she gives.
As long as you watch the lectures and take the quizzes on time, you'll be fine. You can get away with not doing the textbook readings. The class is graded off of weekly quizzes based on video lectures and four multiple choice exams. All the questions on the exams and quizzes can pretty much be found online so it's very manageable.
There were a lot of videos and quizzes in each module and definitely easy to fall behind if youre not keeping track of them. You get to take each quiz 3 times so its easy to get 100% on all of them. Tests were a little difficult but still not bad.
This class sucks. I took it online, you literally cant miss anything she says in the lecture or you wont do good on the test. The quizzes each week can be found on quizlet but the tests cant, which is where you get f**ked. I this online because its a GE and I dont actually want to learn but literally dont take this class if you want easy
The way this class is structured is atrocious to say the least. The main issue with this class are the 3 tests throughout the semester that you will not do well on without dedicating WEEKS of time in preparation for and the most monotone unnecessary lectures you will hear at SDSU. save yourself the time and stress and DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
It's a pretty straightforward class! You're primarily graded on weekly quizzes and 4 exams, but it's easy if you take notes from the lectures. She has quite a few extra credit opportunities, but you have to find it yourself because they're imbedded in the lecture videos. She's VERY strict on deadlines, though.
Yes take this class. Super engaging. No textbook just lecture videos which are pre-recorded. Just pay attention to the videos and take a short quiz in which you get 3 attempts for. Really organized.
Great asynchronous option for a GE. Very organized and straightforward class and very very easy. Even her extra-credit opportunities were no-brainers. Highly recommend!
I took Geog101 for my GE as a summer class. As long as you are willing to put in some effort during the summer, the course goes by fast and everything is laid out so you know what to expect. Many video lectures and 4 open-note tests, opportunities for extra credit. She also replied really quickly to my email. I HIGHLY recommend taking this class!!!
Professor Thorngren is a mediocre professor. Canvas was very well organized, which was great because it was easy to follow and keep track of progress. Exams were short in time with one-question-at-a-time setup (meaning you can't go back or forward). Would take her again, but she does have some strictness in deadlines.
Professor Thorngren was an overall good professor. Her lectures were straightforward and they lined up with the content on the quizzes/tests. Overall, no complaints with the class and I would take it again.
Professor Thorngren's class is well-organized, but quite demanding. The quizzes and exams require close attention to detail. unstuck ai was a helpful study tool alongside the textbook. Overall, a challenging yet rewarding course if you're willing to put in the work.
