She is a nice lady, but she does grade hard. The material is hard to understand. If you want to learn take her if you want an easy class but dont want to learn take someone else. Tough grader but teaches you alot.

She isn't as bad as everyone says. She expects alot from you but she tells you what she wants. It is a hard lab. You really have to understand what you are doing before you go to lab. Does lots of group tests and in the end if you keep up with everything you'll be ok.

Make sure you are a good speller-thats how picky she is on your quizzes. She is a nice person but her grading system concentrates too much on stupid stuff...this is more work than the lecture class...make sure you study the most minute details of every lab. BEWARE of the lab report-

I have Zeman for Lab, and while she is a tough grader, I think she is very interesting and can be quite funny. If you follow her directions closely you will do a lot bettter.

Had her for lab. If you try in the lab she'll like you and be more likely to answer your questions. She does a very good job explaining the lab, and even though she seems tough and grades tough I would recommend her. If there's a question you can't answer, just ask her! It'll make your life easier.

I don't know what everyone's problem is with her, I think she is a good lab teacher. I had her for Genetics lab, and I liked her. She is to the point, and explains things very well. She expects her students to act like adults, and helps you anytime you need it.

I don't know what everyone's beef is about her. She never makes you feel stupid for asking questions and she is very very helpful. She is very nice and friendly and approachable and always there to help. And if you mention anything about wine and cheese she will go on for hours (it is her favorite subject) :)

I once again got stuck with Prof. Zeman. She was nicer this time than in BIO 120, but still not someone I suggest. She's quite intimidating and often thinks your world should revolve around her schedule and the class.

Janel is a way better teacher than people are giving her credit for. I find her to be very helpful and really want's to make sure you understand the material. It's not an easy class by any means but this is college and it shouldn't be easy. I you work hard and ask questions, there won't be any problems.

Although I know the class should not be easy, it was a 104 class meaning that none of us will be using it towards our major. Beware of her quizzes! There are only four questions on them, meaning if you get one wrong, you're screwed. I really did not like Bio by the end of this class.

Professor Zeman's lab was not the easiest thing, but it did make me learn a lot. She is extremely helpful in office hours and will basically tell you what to do to get a perfect. Her quizzes can be challenging, but almost all material is exactly from the lab manual. She expects a lot, but she tells you exactly what it is that she expects.

This professor is a difficult teacher. The questions on her exams and quizzes require you to know every detail about the topics she covers. Read the book for extra reinforcement of her lectures. Also, she knows what she's talking about, but she's incredibly boring.

You know I am going to be honest here she is a fabulous teacher and you know exactly whats going to be on the exams. Go to class because her notes align well with the exams. But, on that same note her tests consist of A-G multiple choice and are beyond difficult I studied my butt off and have been an A and B student through college but I got a D

Definitely a tough prof. lecture exams are extremely detailed & tricky,but if you attend class every day & take good notes it's fairly easy to get a decent grade in the class. I liked this class. she makes BIO 120 interesting and keeps you paying attention. if you keep up with your notes and make sure you study for exams/quiz's you should do fine. she provides slides and you take a quiz every week over the notes you took and she gives out EC. she never made us use the book but i found the end of chapter questions useful.

Class is based off of powerpoint lectures, with an occasional in-class activity. Not much clarity as to what will be on an upcoming exam - just be sure you study EVERYTHING she went over during the unit (notes, film clips, movie notes, textbook examples). Expects a little bit much out of her students despite this being an introductory class.

Very nice professor and willing to help students interested in being helped. PowerPoint's are very interesting, she gives great real-life examples; however, be prepared to study HARD for exams. Many questions seem simple but the way she rearranges words can trip up even those who studied thoroughly. Attending isn't mandatory but will help A LOT.

The first thing she shows you is a slide stating that the majority of the people that take her class fail, and only a few pass. Study extremely hard for all of her exams in order to get a good grade. I'm not sure why she's had such poor reviews in the past, I think that she's a fantastic professor. She won't spoon feed you the answers to anything, but the way that she presents the material is clear and understandable. I loved this professor! The class is hard, and you have to study a lot for tests. Attend EVERY SINGLE CLASS because she only tests on what is covered in lectures. Janel is a great biology professor. If you have a question, just ask! Her exams are over the lecture material, so show up! She uses clicker questions for attendance records so show up! Plus activities will give you an extra point on her exams. Just pay attention and take good notes and you will be fine! Go to office hours for help when needed!

Janel is an extremely good professor. Many people claim she is a poor professor because they do not do well in the course. This COURSE is difficult. It is listed as a General Education course but it is the first class required for Biology majors. Due to the nature of this course, it is designed to weed out the weaker Biology majors. Makes you pay $ for an online attendance program- you HAVE to be in class every day or you'll pay. Interesting lectures, explains material fairly well but moves quickly. In class activities for extra credit and online quizzes are frequent. Definitely print out her lecture slides to take notes on! Tests are difficult but manageable.

She made the confusing concepts very clear and broke them down in a very understanding way. I took AP Bio in high school so this course was already an easy A. This class had no exams, just small assignments or online quizzes due every class period. Your grade comes from those, in class activities, and a group project. Definitely take her for this class.

If you have to take BIO120, I'd definitely recommend her. The class is tough, but she is very clear teaching. She only tests you on what she taught through powerpoints. There is homework, but it can help your grade. She gives extra credit and obviously wants her students to succeed.

Janel is amazing! I was really concerned coming into the class because i haven't taken a bio class since freshman year of high school, but she was really clear on what she wanted. All of her tests are based on her powerpoints if you take good notes, and her lectures are really interesting! It is a challenging class but she was great!

Take BIO 120 with Zeman!! She is a great prof and is very clear on what is expected with her exams. There are extra worksheets given out for extra credit, along with doing mastering biology. This isn't an easy class, but Prof Zeman makes it as easy as it could be. As long as you show up most of the time and take the notes, you should be fine. You are only graded on the exams, as well as the online quizzes that are posted every few weeks. If you have to take 121, I would recommend Prof Zeman.

People complain about not having enough time to write down notes, but that is because they do not print the powerpoints like they are told to. She has all of the notes on there and you can add extra information. Ive talked to her in her office hours and she is very nice and knowledgeable. Highly recommend her. BIO 120 IS A HARD CLASS! People who dont like the professor are people who didnt put in the work the class actually requires. If you are going to take this class, take it with Zeman. She gives A LOT of extra credit on every exam and most profs do not do that. She is very nice and accessible outside of lecture.

Biology is a really hard course to take on. This professor has nicely explained power points and does a well job explaining everything. She gives out a lot of extra credit! almost 5-9 points every test. The class my be hard but the test are not, I have never received anything lower than an A- and one time got over 100

Bio 120 is a very hard class in general, but Zeman is one of the best professors. She is more than eager to help you and going to her office hours helps a lot. Bio 120 is hard but with zeman I got an A in the class and all A on the exams. You dont need to buy the book its never used just the masteringbio code. Everything from the exams comes from the lectures so its not a class you can skip. If you memorize the material on the slides then the exams will be fine

Bio 120 is a very hard class to begin with. No matter who your professor is, it is going to be a lot of studying to do well on the tests. Professor Zeman's lectures covered all of the material that was on the exams. She offers help in her office hours very often. Fantastic professor. She loves what she does and is truly incredible to listen to talking about Biology. She is very helpful all you have to do is ask! A week looks like this: Everyday you will take DETAILED notes (pay very close attention) and Exams are at the end of every chapter. This class is mostly scored off of exams. There is Ex credit.

Tough grader, ask questions about assignments in person, they were unclear at times. Learned a lot about environmental ethics, provided lots of helpful answers, good feedback for the writing as it was an SWS class. Participation and attendance make a good chunk of the final grade. I just had prof zeman. Im pretty sure she recently changed the dynamic of bio 120 but all the tests and homework assignments are online. Lectures all hour but her lectures are amazing and you can tell she LOVES what she is teaching. She encourages questions and wants her students to do well. Due dates are final so read the syllabus!!

She was a very good professor, however this entire course could have been online. The presentations were given and all the tests were online, the only reason to go to class were the in class activities. Would recommend this class if you are good at teaching yourself.

Professor Zeman was a great instructor for this course. Every test and quiz was online, along with the homework. She gives great feedback on activities and assignments and is very helpful. The content is challenging, but nothing terrible. The only negative to her class is that every lecture is a powerpoint.

Professor Zeman is a tough grader and tests can be a little tricky, but is very clear on what you should expect from her class. Pay close attention to slide shows and lectures, do the readings, and BE PRESENT for in class activities! Be ready to put in some work outside of class in order to succeed. Love her, definitely recommend her to anyone!

I found professor Zeman to be a bit intimidating at first, but after sitting down with her I realized she really cares about her students. Professor Zeman is a tough grader; however, she offers great feedback on how to improve future assignments.

Prof. Zeman is tricky to rate. She doesn't deserve a 3 because she's actually pretty good at explaining things. However she doesn't deserve a 5 because she's just using slides to explain things. A handout packet (like some profs.) would be handy in a class like BIO120. Its a harder class, but she does a good job at teaching.

Janel is very clear from the beginning of the course. She cares about her students. Attending the lectures is very important. The exams are doable if you study hard, and are exactly on what we learned. It is an overall difficult course but she does her best to simplify it for us and cares about us passing with a good grade.

She is the sweetest professor ever! Go to class!!!!!! Every class period there is an attendance sheet or worksheet you have to turn in and it's worth points!! If you skip class, you won't pass! If you go to all the classes and do all the extra credit, you can fail all the exams and still pass (I did). ALSO, DO THE MASTERING ASSIGNMENTS, EASY POINTS

Janel is super caring about students and if you go to class she will be extra willing to help! Did not pay attention to any of the mastering (thanks google) and was fine. Study the slides and you'll be fine!

I overall really liked her. She explains things well and kinda leaves you to do things with your group and checks up on you every now and then. She does pick favorites though and if you aren't one of her favorites good luck. You do have to do prelabs which are lengthy but she makes it clear what she is grading.

If you are someone who struggles in science and needs to take this class as a requirement, Professor Zeman is who you want. If you show up to class you can earn points through group activities, and the majority of exams are taken outside of class online which is unheard of. Also, getting tutoring once or twice a week is a huge help too.

Zeman is a great professor; you can tell she knows what she's talking about and tries to give as many examples as possible. Unfortunately, the material she teaches is challenging, so even with all her guidance, the class is pretty demanding. If you skip, you will really struggle. Study time and notes will make or break your grade.

Good professor but go to classes when you can because she does in-class assignments that are graded and honestly are helpful.She is very interesting in her lectures and willing to help and basically give you the answers on in-class assignments so never be afraid to ask for her help. Quizlet's online for mastering answers.

Professor Zeman is passionate and engaging, but the material is challenging. Attend class, study diligently, and utilize tools like Quizlet and unstuckstudy ai to succeed. With effort, you can master the content and earn a solid grade.

Best bio teacher out there, give her a raise.

She's very sweet and understanding. She will help you through the material and takes the harder stuff slow. She has powerpoint presentations she goes through that you take notes on and activities you do in class for points. She has a few online homework assignments which is just a couple multiple choice questions. Tests are online. Go to tutoring.

Professor Zeman was very nice and very approachable. The class was hard though. I recommend you get an iPad and pencil (if you are debating it, just get it) I also recommend that you get a tutor just to help with the load that you have to carry.

She is very understanding and respectful. I did not use the textbook, and I missed a couple days of class but never felt behind. She is pretty great overall.

Bio 120 is content-heavy, very easy to fall behind. It's very my way or the highway for note-taking and study methods, which is frustrating. Random activities that give a boost in points! Go to office hours, so helpful, and she's so nice, especially for harder topics. Tests will probably be locked down going forward. My class seemed to cheat a lot.

Dr. Zeman is a very kind solid professor with clear but fast paced content heavy lectures. Participation is key, and office hours are helpful, though she encourages self-discovery. Slides can be incomplete, so take good notes, read the textbook and quiz yourself alot. Most of your grade comes from exams, so be prepared to study.
