Great Professor. She really did everything she possibly could to make sure her students could succeed. It just sucks how even when she was teaching the course, she didnt make the tests. Not a big fan of who did
She reads from slides that she posts, and does not explain that much into detail. She says she will post questions but never does and expects you to come up with questions. Her first midterm was so bad that everyone complained on moodle. Expects that you have a background in physics. Unfortunately Kine students have to take this course.
Bad exams, vague and unclear short answer questions open to interpretation. Reads from powerpoint slides, not much teaching going on. Lack of transparency with class averages and grades. Inability to deal with students properly. Recommend do every problem in the book, and read the book thoroughly.
Dr. Drake is a professor who really knows her stuff and is more than happy to help you learn the material, especially if you see her on her office hours. Biomechanics was a hard course, but she teaches it really well. Her tests are tough, so make sure you don't just memorize the material but understand the concepts and applications of it
If you do the work, the course isn't hard. She really makes sure that everything is clear, lectures follow the textbook (helped cause I'm not good at math). She makes sure help is always there when needed with tonnes of tutorials. Tests are hard, but fair if you understand the material! Labs are fun and free marks!
Clear teaching style. Very open to providing help during office hours. The questions from the mid-term were straight from the text book with modified numbers. Even the same diagrams were used. I'm not sure what people are complaining about? It doesn't get much easier than this.
Dr. Janessa Drake has brought tears in my eyes with her over-the-top difficult midterms of hers, I am really disappointed with her lectures as she just reads over her slides but then writes an exam 'wordy' and too long to complete in a 45-minute examination period.
Professor Drake has been one of the few professors that has made a dent in my experience at York University. As a 4th year student, I can say that her level of teaching in class and her expectations on the tests do NOT match. Shame many students have to endure having her as a biomechanics professr!!!
Dr Drake's lecture are COMPLETELY disconnected from her exams. While you go to lecture and you think this is the easiest thing in the world, and she goes over simple concepts for numerous lectures (we learned trig for like 3 lectures), her tests were extremely difficult and came out of nowhere. Plus, her MCQ is crazy. do. not. take. -A+ student
Takes forever to mark tests. It's been 3 weeks since the final exam was written and still no grades. Rarely answers emails. In regards to her personality, she is funny, smart, and kind but in order to be a good professor, she needs to be more efficient with time management and content clarity. Tests too long for only 45 mins. Final exam was fair.
Most stressful class I've taken at York thus far. - Missing lab grades. - Waiting forever for the final exam marks. - Not receiving replies to emails. - Ridiculously wordy test questions. Lectures are fun and simple but the tests are like whaaa.
Dr. Drake has ruined my uni experience. I started taking depression medication (which i am still taking bc of the trauma) She does not want you to get to GRAD school, she has a problem in making things clear and easy. I KNOW ITS A UNI course and it requires work, which i did! But her tests are so HARD. A NEW prof is required for this course!!!
AVOID IF POSSIBLE! She is quite possibly the worst prof I have ever had in my 4 years of post secondary. Not only is the course hard, but she makes the test super hard and she calls it fair. It also takes her FOREVER to give back grades. It has been a month since we wrote the final and I still dont have my final grade. She lectures stupid stuff too
So this was this professors first time teaching this class. I think she did a pretty good job and will improve. The first midterm was a mess I will admit but she gave you an online opportunity to boost your grade 10% afterwards to make it fair! I feel if you put the effort in, do the textbook work (essential) you will do well in this class.
I'm so disappointed in this course.. Got final letter grades back after a month but no numerical grade and then the course disappeared from moodle. She is very hard to communicate with electronically. This made the course unnecessarily hard and frustrating. Try avoiding her
Dr. Drake is a different type of professor I had in terms of teaching methods. Her lectures were fine (tho she did get off-topic at times). The tests were pretty tough, final exam was fair but tricky (her MC is tricky and long!). You have to do textbook questions to do well and more. She should be more transparent about marks and replying to emails
Dr. Drake does not understand that people cannot do all questions in the book. She can just be a bit specific about homework. Her tests are REALLY hard. I don't understand that if 10 ppl in a class have a problem then i guess its not the prof, but if every person has a problem then it definitely is the prof. She needs to CHANGE HER STYLE!
it is fair to say that Dr. Drake has had a bad semester, has made life difficult for students. She needs to change for the better because students are suffering and bad reviews will pile up
Dr. Drake needs to make her tests shorter in length, and not critically analyze soo much! Many of us have such weak math backgrounds, its not possible to learn math so fast. She needs to understand that people need the marks and cannot repeat courses. Just b.c she is rich and does not mean every other person is too. Its not fair Dr. Drake.
Why DR DRAKE?? why so HARD? You think you are testing knowledge, but actually with all due respect you are over doing it a bit too much. Try to understand. Its not criticism, it's constructive b.c it would help students and yourself. I really like her, but why make such difficult tests with such less time? I wish I had Anne Moore. I miss her :(
She blames students and students blame her! Well she needs to understand not to go so over board. I know its uni and i have done courses but why is this one so complex?? Request to head of Kinesiology to get a new PROF for this course. I respect her, but she gave me sleepless nights. The stress is unbearable. Tests are over complicated and long.
She needs to drastically change her methods around, every other student in Kine 3030 feels the same way judging from the reviews. Test questions are wordy and tough and tricky MC. Expect a lot of math based concepts for this course, and she wasn't specific about what things to focus on for tests. Yes its university, but this prof is problematic.
She knows people struggle with math, but despite that she does it on purpose. YORK NEEDS TO CHANGE THE BIOMECHANICS PROF! She is killing it, you cannot go so over board. She knows her faults but she does not want to change, its like some aggression she has against ppl. NEW PROF required!
it seems our prayers have been answered, Dr. Moore's name is listed as the prof that will teach it in the winter term. Thank you york for having mercy on future students
OMG! i am retaking the coarse now. If i knew anne moore would teach in the winter, I would have never taken it with janessa. This truly sucks. But i like janessa drake, but its just the tough method she uses!!! I wish she could change because she is a deserving prof!
Just find another prof.
She needs to WORD her questions more straightforward and not turn and twist. The course is already hard, i don't know what she wants! The first midterm was a DISASTER and she knows. But now it's like the ppl retaking will do better than ppl who are new. The newbies shall struggle and she needs to REALIZE THAT! Doubt, she has a heart to realize it!
I hope Janessa Drake reads this! I was not a bad student, I payed a lot of attention. I even remember her jokes! Her tests are so complex, I don't know why she does this. She knows ppl struggle and that her way is tricky but she does it on PURPOSE. She should make similar questions to the text book but she goes way beyond. What enmity does she hav
She thinks everyone knows bio-mechanics like she does! Why teach it in such a tricky way. Her tests are like OMG! She takes questions out of the text but the way she changes it is just phenomenal. It's like this is the first time I'm learning it so she needs to realize it's baby steps, already the text questions can be really tricky at times!!!!
Went into the exam with a C-, left that dreadful class with a B. LATA ! TBH though she reads off the slides and only expands when asked to expand. You don't need to attend her lectures for that reason alone. She was helpful when you had a question and would always be willing to take questions during lecture.
I did this course in the winter and it was horrific. My friend is taking it now and I want to bring to Dr. Drake's attention that, the new students in the summer term are STRUGGLING. But the retakers are getting over 90's. Most people retaking know your style and way plus there are some repetitive questions on tests. Please make tests fair.
She does take up questions when asked and w.e. Problem is she does not give clear directions, the course is very independent, which does not work b.c it's the first time most ppl do biomechanics. Her MCQ are very tricky, short answer can come from anywhere in the book. She needs to make it a little easier in the sense that most ppl have weak math.
I am retaking this course with Janessa Drake and the second midterm was HORRIFIC. How many times can I retake?? What does she want. "go over Newton laws"," know your balance stability definitions" "know how to set up static equilibrium and which way forces act" "know your levers" NONE of this was on the midterm, the way she stressed in class!
The second midterm for the summer was so BAD. Different questions from the textbook. What does she want? She wants people to FAIL. I am so STRESSED. I'm falling into worry and depression. I have sleepless nights and I am so worried about the final. If she makes the questions up herself, it will be a disaster. I am only good with the book!
I was a transfer student and touched on Biomechanics before. Seeing that it was a "Beginner" biomechanics, I took a chance and take it during the summer session. Some of the terms and equations are not new however, the math was unbelievable and the tricks on her questions make it harder than it already is. I dropped the course before 2nd midterm
I am a biophysical student. I am really good with math but the way JANESSA tricks ppl on tests is crazy. MCQ are all guessed most times and short answers are REALLY changed around from what is practiced in the book. Only GOD can save the class for the final. The retakers are fine but the first timers are STRUGGLING and the teacher does NOT CARE!
We studied from the lectures and from the text. The main question on midterm 2 came from lab 7, which was not even touched on BEFORE the exam! None of the questions from the book are even on exams, its not fair!!! On the top she says she puts q's directly from the TEXT, we have not come across one such question except midterm 1, question 3.
She says she only changes the direction and sport from the text book questions but there has not been one such question i have come across till date! Dr. Drake is not a FAIR tester! She can teach but CANNOT test, and at this stage only marks matter. I would want to have her as a grade 11 math teacher but not a uni professor!!!
Worst prof ever. Even if you do all the questions in the textbook. Midterm 2 was the worst. It didn't test our knowledge.
I had Drake in the winter and it was an utter disaster. I also have a question for those who are taking it right now: does she still do her tricks like only displaying the letter grade and her 10% short answer opportunity?
Worst Prof ever. She discusses how she puts up the questions from the book where she only changes direction and sport. Til this date, I haven't came across any question where she has changed direction and sport .She twists the whole question making hard for the student to do them. She needs to understand that its just an intro course.
I wish she had fair tricks to the textbook questions but she never does, it's always next level, complicated questions. I took this course with her in Winter, and can't believe she still hasn't changed her issues. I still can't believe how people did poorer on her final exam (which was easy), makes me think how she marks these exams inconsistently!
Worst Prof. Whats the point of becoming a prof essor when you can't pass on the knowledge to others. She makes the tests so hard even if you know everything inside out , its still not enough. Midterm2 was the worst. She needs to understand that we are students and this is an introductory class.
Worst Prof. Words can't describe how bad she is and then she compains why students are so rude to her. Her tests are way too long with short answer question being over complicated. We studied everything she told us yet there was nothing from the text book. She needs to accept the fact that her teaching style is horrible and should change it.
What is this supposed to mean, there are too many D's in this class so lets use X when speaking about work. Why is she so rude and difficult. She is making fun out of ppl struggling. Midterm 2 marks still not known which is so important right now!
Second midterm was a complete blow, idk why she makes it so hard. Mc tricky plus short answers were very manipulated compared to the text. Even after studying so much it was a big BLOW.
Dr. Drake I do not understand chapter 14. I am really struggling. I don't know about the short answer but Iam studying hard. Please be fair on the mc, you know you over complicate it. I cannot even understand some words at times (not an english student but rather a kin student) Please be FAIR
Fair if you put in the work. Try to understand all of the concepts thoroughly and do the assigned problems and you will be fine.
Janessa Drake is a nice person, no doubt. Problem is the way she tests. I mean Ièm doing the course in 6 weeks so maybe thats why. I struggle with her multiple choice questions. She knows she overly does it, but then why not stop ? I do not understand why she is tricking ppl even in 6 weeks!! Final is tomoro, please pray!!
I don't get why soooo many people give her all 1s She gives bonus marks on all her tests and drops questions majority of the class got wrong. Tests are fair in content but she doesn't give you enough time to confidently finish it Exam was very fair. Lectures are w.e Her slides have everything on it. Review slides +the text questions and your golden
No doubt she gives good bonus marks but tests are marked very tough! No part marks are really given? Let the marks for the final come then lets see. Lots of ppl in the winter semester complained about her marking it hard, so lets see what happens??? It takes at least 10 mins to think about 1 mc which is crazy!
Entirely fair. First two midterms were a little tough because she only gives you 45 minutes but we were given ample time for the final. Her short answers are very fair, often pulls them out of the textbook or similar too questions from the text. Multiple choice is the toughest part of her tests but if u study the material you will be fine.
She's okay. Taking forever with final marks though.
i loveeeeeeeeeeee dr drake
She was a pretty laid back person, but sometimes unclear and too fast in her lecture material. I relied mostly on the book, and only after would I understand her lectures. Definitely put the time in to get the grade though, it's still attainable.
Her midterm was impossible! She expects too much for an undergrad biomechanics course. Her exam wasn't the hardest thing, but for the amount of effort i put into it, I didn't do well.
Never available for questions, brushes off answers she doesn't know. Feels like graded on her concepts of knowledge rather than what you get from books
Honestly a lot of kids dislike her because they don't understand basic physics and they expect her to spoon feed them. If you've passed grade 11 physics you'll be fine, her tests were very easy if you practice.
she thought the last part of anatomy, even though she speaks very mono tone and i never attended lecture i got a very decent grade on her final exam. the reason her final was so easy was because she included half the questions from a practise exam she posted. The final exam was really easy and definitely boosted my grade
If you did well in 3030 and are interested in spine and gait, you might like this class. It's really tough. Prepare for papers and presentations. But you come out with practical skills that you'll actually use for clinical work or post-grad. This class gave me invaluable knowledge to immediately apply in clinical settings.
It was a relief that she taught the latter half of Human Anatomy because I actually understood every lecture. She gave real-life examples so it's easier to remember these things when the final exam came. You must do her practice tests as well. It's a good gauge of how she creates the final exam. She really cared about our success in this class.
She lectures really well and gives good study tips. I learned a lot and would take this course again!
Awesome prof! Can't wait to take more courses with her!
Not a fan of the style of her test questions but shes funny at times
Slightly better than Prof. Smith and that's not saying much. Examples given are useless, she goes off on useless tangents. She does provide extra material which is helpful. Don't bother going to class just memorize everything from the book.
I didn't realize how much I actually learned in her anatomy classes until I needed it this semester in 3030!!! She is awesome!
I liked how the course is structured with guest speakers, lecture slides are easy to understand. Love the prof! explains materials very well
really great grad course, a lot of readings but all appropriate & necessary, learned technical and writing skills. Course definitely helping me write my proposal!
KINE 4475 only change I think need is more lab sessions, other than that Dr. Drake is AWESOME!
I thought the course was one the the best courses I have done in my undergrad. Instructor great as well, always helped when encountered any problems at all. I can actually use what she taught!
She wholeheartedly cares about your success and will help you any way she can, provided you will put in work. She holds you to a higher standard than most profs in grad school, but it only helps you to achieve your goals. One of the few academics who will speak candidly in person. An ideal mentor.
Great background for clinical analysis work.
Great prof, course interesting and useful, it allowed me to pick a topic I was interested in and study it thoroughly. Teaches how to propoerly speak and present to an audience. pay attention in class and the exam questions are so obvious.
Excellent Prof, very helpful, friendly and really cares about the students. She knows her stuff and can explain it very clearly
Great prof. Exams right from lectures. No surprises, which is great. Just attend the lectures and read her slides, do the labs and you'll get an A.
Very fun and enthusiastic about biomechanics. has a very approachable personality and will clarify anything when asked. Lectures go by in a flash and the labs we got to do were cool. too bad the strike cancelled some of the labs. Overal really interesting course!
Easy elective that might actually help me get a job. Group paper and presentation was optional. Labs good. Exams fair and lectures good. She explains really well and answers all questions. Will stay after class to give help.
Really enthusiastic, funny and energetic. obviously respected in biomechanics. this grad course has 3hr weekly lectures + labs + readings but was worth every second!
Great lecturer, very interesting and clear. Keeps the class entertaining and slides are great. No textbook. Exams are straight forward but you have to know your stuff! Super helpful even with non-course advice. Offered lots of choice and strike accommodation to students. Glad I took as an elective!
Took signal with her a year ago and I am seeing again and again how much she really taught me - she REALLY knows what is needed to be successful in grad school! At the time I thought too many labs, why are we having to do more than other classes. But now I wish we'd had more. I can't imagine how I would have done my thesis without this class!
Awesome teacher, posts all slides online, great and fairly quick lectures, tests are extremely reasonable. Great professor!
Awesome Prof, really knows what she is doing. Helps explain the material so everyone can understand. She is passionate about what she studies and that comes out in her lectures. I recommend taking one of her classes. Her exams are really fair as well, and she marks pretty generously.
She's a great prof. Tests are fair and course is interesting. Really great elective!
Amazing prof! class is so interesting and well presented. Extremely fair/generous marker! Group presentation and paper might seem like more work, but easy marks!
Great class! No textbook, but she gives you all her slides. Read slides before going to class so you can mark where she says exam questions will be from. Do the project paper and presentation option!
This prof made the strike bearable! She was super flexible with exam dates, optional lab assignments, projects, and presentation. Course was really interesting and helpful! Awesome prof ,awesome course!
This research course was a real eye opener for me - in a really, really good way. Dr. Drake is an awesome mentor! Learned so much about how to do and manage research, PT app, my life! Her lab is filled with awesome people too. This was a busy but really fun summer course. Feel really lucky to have had this experience!
Great lecturer! Tries to make this difficult course as easy as possible. She is approachable and always helps students. Her lectures are dense and sometimes fast, but definitely not boring. However, the final exam was difficult and you really had to know your stuff.
amazing proff, class itself requires extreme memorization, you will study the entire coursebook, but her tests are primarily based on book with focus on materials she cover in her slides. Study the slides, anything you have trouble understanding, refer to the book. She's extremely clear, makes the topic interesting, and is always willing tohelp
Awesome Prof. Really knows her stuff and knows how to say it clearly
Loved this class! One of the best profs at York, she keeps info interesting and tells a few stories along the way that will definitely help you remember the content. Uses manual but go to class, and it's pretty heavy on content so midterms do require some study time. Overall great course and great prof.
Very helpful and really cares about her students and their futures!
She is a truly great prof! i loved attending her lectures because she always kept the class engaged and made the material fun by showing interesting video or telling story that helped you to better remember the information! Make you you stay on top of the lectures, read slides before class to make this hard course easier.
Awesome teacher, posts all slides online, great and fairly quick lectures, tests are extremely reasonable even with the strike. No textbook. Great professor!
only change I think need is more lab sessions, other than that Dr. Drake is AWESOME!
Awesome Prof, really knows what she is doing. Helps explaint the material so everyone can understand. She is passionate about what she studies and that comes out in her lectures. I recommend taking one of her classes. Her exams are really fair as well, and she marks pretty generously.
Great professor! She's enthusiastic and available to help, and overall a great person. I would take any class she taught.
I thought the course was one the the best courses I have done in my undergrad. Drake's great as well, always helped when encountered any problems at all. I am actually using what she taught!
Super nice prof that is always willing to help!!
Loved this prof, course interesting and useful, it allowed me to pick a topic I was interested in and study it thoroughly. Teaches how to propoerly speak and present to an audience. pay attention in class and the exam questions are so obvious.
love her teaching! she is clear and funny i'm not in science andwas afraid of this class not any more! thank you dr drake!!!
Shes SUCH an awesome prof. She doesn't read word for word, and really ingrains the info in ur head through the way she teaches, ex) sometimes show showed us an interesting video, or told us a cool story that related to the info. Wish all my profs were like her
awesome prof! really knows her stuff and helps you to get it. tells funny stories that make it easier to remember all the stuff. will look to take more courses with her!
Dr. Drake was one of the most entertaining profs i've had. Anatomy can be quite boring but she found a way to make lectures entertaining and engaging. You will have to study for this class but she gives many hints about questions on exams. She as well is very clear about exactly what will be on tests. Overall amazing I would take her class again.
Loved this class! LEctures are recorded so you don't have to go, but go if you can. Awesome prof!
this elective course was super easy. if you taken notes in lecutre and study like she tells you! one of the best courses i've taken!
She is awesome! Really fair. made anatomy interesting!
She just talks and talks and talks non stop. She finishes lecture in 30 minutes and all her notes are diagrams with no explanation. You literally have to write every word she says which is impossible since she just keeps on talking without pausing. Her tests are very annoying and specific which just makes the material 10x worse.
My god, Dr. Drake is so boring. She just teaches in such a way that makes such an interesting topic the most boring topic ever. She just lectures non-stop without taking any breaks or anything. As the review below me said, the slides are all just diagrams. And she's so paranoid about copyrights, her slides are weird. Please stop teaching like this!
Dr. Drake does not care about her students. Since classes were shifted online, we barely received any time to do well on the tests and the lectures are longer than they're supposed to be. The course is difficult for non-majors and she expects the students to use very specific terms.
Do not take this prof. Thats it. She tells you there will be no questions outside the textbook, and then half the questions are completely from the textbook. She gives you a list of what you need to know for a lab test, and then half the questions are not even taught. She is extremely boring too if that was not enough. Tests are EXTREMELY hard.
Awful prof. Tests are so hard and not even according to what was taught in lecture. Also extremely boring. Absolutely not recommended.
Great prof. She teaches with the assumption that she is teaching university students not grade niners, but some people dont like that I guess. Doesn't waste class time talking about basic stuff for the 300th time and gets to the point. Lectures are rich in content but very intuitive and easy to grasp assuming you actually study.
DR. DRAKE I AM BEGGING YOU TO PLEASE STOP TEACHING THIS COURSE! KINE 2031 has been a nightmare.
She tries her best to ruin students future. Kin 2031 is a nightmare with her.
Here's the thing, if you're a university student, you can't expect the prof to spoon feed you. You have to take out time for each class and learn the material rather than blame it on the prof for making tests hard. She gave 45 seconds per question which was kind of unfair, but everything in her tests comes from her notes! Anatomy is about practice.
Obviously, to expect in anatomy, the tests to be hard but Dr. Drake is unreasonable with her tests and expects us to read paragraph questions in 40 secs and know the answer quickly. I feel if given the proper additional time to properly think through answers the course would be much better. She doesn't give a chance for you to prove your knowledge.
I have not had a class with Dr. Drake in person, maybe she is better in actual lectures. BUT in online HUMAN ANATOMY she simply just reads through a transcript which seems like it's written from before, there is no way you can take notes by hand. (I typed every word she said). There is literally no emotion, no pause in her online lectures.
Worst prof I've ever had. She was nice but her exams were a joke almost as if she wanted everyone to do bad. She gave extremely long questions making it almost impossible to finish without rushing. When many students complained she claimed she "understands" but still won't change it. This class was honestly such a joke and her exams ruined my mark.
Speaks fast and has long, detailed lectures. Need to know information and examples inside out to get an A+, especially with the time constraints of the online tests. Labs are a booster in the course.
Being an anatomy course I didn't expect it to be easy but this was the hardest class this semester and she did not make it easier.
Dr. Drake is unfortunately not a good professor and does not help outside of class. She does not teach well and makes lectures even harder to undrestand.
Very unprofessional. She sounds very full of herself when she's teaching. I would avoid this course with her if possible. Took HOURS to take notes on each lecture. I am not even kidding! some lectures took me 5 hours to take notes on because I was writing everything word for word. Please Dr. Drake, be nicer to your next students.
Drake is a good prof, she gives you great tactics to remember difficult concepts. Watch her lectures, watch Youtube videos to get a better understanding, give yourself at least 2 weeks to study, you will be fine, tests are a little tricky; filled with questions you must apply your knowledge towards, you will do fine, work hard
She's awesome! slides have tons of pics makes anatomy easier. lots of great explanations and tricks to remembering the content. Lots of office hours if you need help, and TAs are great too!
Anatomy is really hard for me. this was my 2 time taking this class. No manual this time but the slides and lectures had everything I needed! She gives lots of tips to make the stuff easier and tells lots of the etst questions. Just do the work every week and you will pass!
She gives you great material. Its anatomy, so her notes are mostly diagrams but she explains them really well. Don't need to write every word she says, as she repeats stuff a few different ways. Recordings make it easy to take notes (I just paused when I needed). She gives lots of examples of types of exam questions.
She tells you exactly what you have to do to pass. memorize the anatomy. Easiest A+ ever! don't need textbook
She actually cares! she made time for me even though I took anatomy with her a year ago and I was asking about a ref letter. In class she says tips on how to to get good ref letters and says she is happy to help where she can- she means it! I didn't realize just how awesome she was when I was in the class. Taught me way more than just anatomy!!!
has great teaching skills. In her examples she explains how to break down the question vers just give you the answer.
Amazing prof! Makes anatomy interesting! Love that she gives so many diferent examples. Needed as many as I could get.
This course was harder than every other grad course I took. But it has been 100% essential to my research success! I use the instrumentation and processing information she taught me every day. She totally knows her stuff! Thank you Dr. Drake!
LOVE her! Much easier course online then in person!
I wouldn't have made it through the first half without her!
So good. I transferred from different school. Hated (and failed) anatomy. No way I would be getting A right now without this prof! THX!
I worried that no matter how hard I worked or how much time I put into studying I would not do well in course. But she was incredibly available for help in the forum, by email, in office hours - staying for hours after it ended, and followed up by email. She gave me amazing advice and encouragement - I'm succeeding! Thank you Dr. Drake!
Lecture modules were easy to follow and the way she teaches makes difficult things easier to understand and remember. Her funny stories help too!
Very helpful hints and tips in lecture. Really cares about her students and their futures!
Is so super obvious about what the test questions will be about. She gives summary points and question examples. she tells you not to waste your time writing down every word and she means it! But do take the time to write notes from the lectures as she posts and this course is easy!
Way easier online! I liked that she told funny stories but it is still pretty boring.
Hoestley I didn't think I'd pass this class but I did! Thank you Dr. Drake!
Answered emails fast and was really helpful! Posted way more than most profs and had lots of office hours too for extra help (thanks!). just listen to her and you can do this course pretty easy!
I was scared to take a year course in anatomy but Dr. Drake was amazing! She would explain things so clearly and when I didn't get it, she would stop and explain again a different way. She is the reason I did so well in this class!
Excellent prof and course! Do the course project. It will help raise your mark!
AWESOME AF!!!!
The course was a little boring being online but Dr. Drake was excellent. She is super straight forward with her test and makes sure they are marked easy. Wish I had taken more courses with her!
Easy to listen to, knew her stuff, really great prof that really cares about helping her students succeed
This class was really helpful cause she really knows her stuff and really cares about helping her students!
This was a great elective! She really makes you think about anatomy and gives lots of tips to make the memorization part easier!
This is a really great class, really makes you think about a wide variety of perspectives of LBD. Too bad it was online, but she always stayed if we wanted to ask questions.
Dr. Drake was super helpful in explaining lecture information but also for stuff like how to ask a prof for a reference letter and research volunteer position. Wish I'd taken more of her classes!
just follow what she says and you can do well in this class! The project is basic and EASY marks!! The course is easy and super helpful. Dr. Drake is excellent!
I love that i can appy what I learned in lecture to what I learned in lab and other courses and use it right away in the clinic
I liked the in-depth analysis of the compartments throughout the body. Dr. Drake kept us engaged and presented material in an easy to understand approach. I wish there had been 2 midterms and a final instead of 1 midterm and final.
I really liked all the visuals she gave to go with the info and the lec recordings and the lab was really good too
The information provided in this course is very beneficial for people who would like to pursue a career in healthcare. Dr. Drake is very good at teaching!!! I really appreciated the fact that labs weren't mandatory!
Anatomy can sometimes be dry an simple factual. so I appreciated when Dr. Drake gave real world applications to better illustrate the functions as well. I wish I took this course in third year!
the most valuable thing about this course is the lecture notes Dr. Drake made. They are definitely in the top 1% of all the courses I have taken. And the proff is available basically all the time.
I liked the lab time in being able to apply the theory learned in lecture. some courses the lab and lecture aren't really related. I wish I worked a little harder and listened to Dr. Drake. She tells you exactly what to expect and what todo.
Dr. Drake's teaching style is the best!
the material was clear and expectations of us were clear. Even though a couple of lectures had to be cancelled, Dr. Drake made sure to post the lecture online instead of rushing materials.
This class was hard for me but I'm glad I took it. I valued the organized stucture of the material presentation. Being taught the systems in sections and encouraged well in advance to review was really helpful. I would have liked having my overall mark earlier. But I really liked the different study/review methods Dr. Drake would suggest.
Dr. Drake made this class less dry. I liked the slides and info on there where very valuable for studying. The guest lecturer at the beginning was okay but spoke too quick.
The course was taught in the laziest way possible. They would tell us to watch their online videos from 2020 then come to class prepared to talk about it during our lecture time. Lectures should be during the regularly scheduled lecture time. If you are taking this class, be prepared to study for 9 hours a day. Very lazy from the professors.
Terrible... her lectures are complete trash. Difficulty of the tests is insane
All I can say is trash. Absolute trash.
She needs a new career
This is my third time taking htis course and I LOVE the new format. So much easier! Dr. Drake's lectures are awesome and I loved the in class activities! Really helped me!
Lectures are literally just recordings of her reading off of slides. Midterms are the hardest shit you'll ever do. I studied origins and insertions for the second midterm, just for there to be like 3 questions out of 35 about origins/insertions. The rest of the questions were super hard for no reason. If you can, avoid her!
If you care about your GPA please don't take her class. I agree with all the other terrible reviews of her. She really needs to rethink her career as a prof. She is way too lazy to be running a course. Prof Drake should stick to researching whatever she brags about. Such a big ego on this lady. Don't take her class.
Stay away
Get a new job
Lectures suck. The worst ever. She gets paid 6 figures to post old lecture recordings and say "watch them on your own time". Time is money for students. We don't have time to watch her monotone voice speak in a video from 2020. She makes her class miserable. She thinks she's top shit too. Get a new job
I really enjoyed Dr. Drake's teaching methods and how she explained concepts in the recordings and the class activities. It made it easier for me to understand complex course material!
I really enjoyed this prof! I've never felt so engaged!
Good straightforward lectures. Doesn't overcomplicate anything, just a lot of content to remember so stay on top of lectures. Would take again.
Very helpful and really cares about her students and their futures! Always made time after class!
Takes the time to talk about how to learn anatomy! Loved the activities! I think they were really helpful!
she's okay. her teaching itself was good but it was the content that made it super difficult. also she speaks VERY fast on her online modules and often gives too much info that we don't need to know
She goes through a lot of information in her modules and some information isn't really necessary for the course but still interesting. Like I said this course has a lot of information in it so DONT FALL BEHIND, try not to get overwhelmed, review lectures before the tests, do the practice tests, ask questions, participate and you'll do fine.
Dr. Drake, is a fantastic teacher. She lets you know exactly what to expect on tests. She loves what she teaches and knows her material. She is always available for extra help or explanation. However, you must keep up with the material. The course (Anatomy) material is dense. I am grateful I had her early on as a professor.
She is the worst prof I have ever at at York. She is quite literally atrocious at teaching material. She should get a new job.
TERRIBLE PROF. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS. PLEASE LISTEN
Dr. Drake was an amazing professor who made anatomy look easy. Very friendly and nice professor along with Dr. Richardson. I highly recommend taking her for anatomy!
I was worried about memorizing everything but the in class activities helped soooooooo much. She gave so many tips and tricks to remembering and showed how to answer questions quickly. imo the half she did harder (hello all the cell stuff and muscles!!!) but not becaus of her!
Her online modules are WAY too heavy; it's a yapfest. She overcomplicates everything in her modules and speaks too fast to understand what is being said. The class setup is the worst I've ever seen. You do 2-3 modules before class, which are 35min each, and the class is just iClicker. The only good thing is that you can defer with no documentation
you have to teach yourself kinda brutal
Nice person but HORRIBLE at teaching. Forced to watch online modules which are WAY TOO FAST to understand. Anatomy is already content heavy and she yaps way too much, NOT CONCISE at all. Unorganized course and you have to prepare + watch modules for units that aren't discussed in person until 2 weeks later... very confusing and hard to do well
It seems like she's rapping with how fast she talks. She makes us watch online modules, which are so hard to understand that even subtitles can't catch certain words. I am never the type to get frustrated easily but I get so frustrated watching her online modules. Please avoid if you can.
Anatomy is already a challenging course, and with the current course format, it becomes even tougher. Instead of live lectures, the material is presented through pre-recorded videos from previous years, which are delivered at a very fast pace. They are very lengthy and give way too much info! Not impressed at all after all the money we are paying!
She gives too much unnecessary detail in her modules! I don't like the format of this course and how you are learning a new unit while you are taking an exam for the old unit basically. She uses iClicker and the questions/content are pretty irrelevant to the modules. She doesn't really explain much, just gives the answers and hops for the best!
simple one word: awful
I thought she was a pretty good lecturer as well as the exams are very fair, the only downside is that she talks pretty fast during her modules but if you study you will be okay. Just go to the lectures and lab tests and you will be okay lots of chances to bring up grade
Unfortunately, it's a core class and you don't have a choice in wanting to take it or not but still a travesty that this is how kinesiology students have to learn. This class is scheduled for 3 different days of class attendance but you only go in one day and struggle at home alone with the crammed content. Janessa is just horrible in both formats.
She was pretty nice ig. Online recorded lectures were her just spitting info out at you and she speaks so fast I had to bring the speed of the video down. Her tests genuinely weren't that bad and she adds a ton of marks per test (like 2-3). Study your butt off and you will do well
Goes above and beyond in and out of the course. She was alwasy willing to stay after class to answer questions. She helped me get my volunteer research position with another teacher!
Only slides are used but lots to remember. Info from slides mentioned in modules are imp for exams. Lots of pics on slides so you need to info from lectures to understand. Gives bonus questions but questions are tricky (answer options like "both" and "all options are correct"). Evaluations = 20% midterm 1 and 2, 28% final. 2 lab tests worth 13% (
It's clear that she is passionate about what she teaches, but the structure of the course (modules) makes it impossible to learn or keep up with the lectures. She rushes when teaching and brushes over important terms. Tests are very difficult.
