One of the BEST professors here at SJSU.
Gives a lot of work!! Grades in detail!
she'll keep you up on your toes. exams could be difficult
pretty good lectures; they're clear. lots of homework but it helps a lot for studying for exams. good teacher, not that easy though.
saali kutri
by FAR the best professor at SJSU. althoug the work is tedious at times, you learn quite a lot and that's what is important. she makes everything very clear even though it seems very complex.
very clear lectures. homework can be hard & long.
ASIDE FROM HER TWO PACK A DAY HABIT, SHE IS VERY EFFECTIVE AT GETTING THE POINT ACROSS.
a very fair teacher. lectures are crystal clear...only needed book for homework problems. homework is long and tests aren't easy.
Her lectuers are clear. Exams are similar to homework problems. Lots and lots of homework. You can expect to spend at least 3 hours on homework a week. Exams are very long and hard to complete with the time given. Also curves
This professor's tough, but good. I got an A in her class. She teaches very well. I would recommend her to anyone!
She's one of the best professors I ever had. She explains clearly and her workload is not too heavy. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!
Highly recommended!!! Though she can be sort of anal at times, her lectures are really helpful... Don't slack off in the class, keep up w/everything and you'll for surely pass.
she is easy goign teacher but class is taught, so study up. she expains everythig very clear, review and you are ok
She's clear on what she wants, but assigns a lot of homework, and her exam questions are a load too. she's good, but she has a lot of work for you!
I think she's totally fun and clear on how she teaches. I hate math and she made it better for me.
Good teacher, nice lady..lectures tell you almost everything except for how to do the homework which is crucial..She grades super hard..wont take any late homework. Expect to do a lot of work in this class.
I extremely dislike this lady however she is a great teacher. She grades extremely hard and even when you copy the all of the homework you still will not be able to get a perfect score on it. Her tests are extremely hard...have fun with the chain somker!!
She is great. Very nice. Easy to understand. Does everything on the board, step-by-step. Test were based on homeworks. The tests are long and time-consuming. She gives some formulas on the exams.
This professor isn't too bad, she gives you a formula sheet on exam days. Her tests take long, often, can't finish it on time. She's always making funny faces and drinks way too much coffee. Overall, I'd take her again. She explains things clearly.
I hated this class more than life itself. I am horrible at math, but I put in an EFFORT. She doesn't look at that. She's too anal, isn't understanding, is way too picky and doesn't take in the fact that people are TRYING. I will make a voodoo doll
She is not easy, but she is very clear and fair in her testing. One of the best Math teachers I've had so far. Unfortunatley, she is not very nice during office hrs., but you can always go to the tutorial center.
I took her for BUS 90& BUS 190. She's good in explaining the material, but anal in her grading and very difficult in her exams. Forget about getting help during her office hours. She'll shoo you out. This woman smokes too damn much. Always outside puffing
Very clear in explanation. Knows her stuff. Homework is very time consumming but you'd better do it. Exam is not easy and she ripped off point in no time, and suddenly, you realized that you should really be careful. Too bad, she's unfriendly.
she is very hard and very unfriendly. I would have never taken her if I had known!
very very hard, very unhelpful during office hours. There are way better teachers to take 190 with instead of her.
Very hard, but her lectures are clear and the assignments are similar to the exam questions. The book for the class is terrible.
I'll do just fine in her class, if you do your homework and pay attention in class.
190 is not an easy class period. Clear lectures. Answers for HW can be found in solution manual. Gave us a heads up on test questions, but threw in some tricks. VERY PICKY on HW and tests!
She is very anal! You make one little mistake she will take off points!Even if the answer is right and all the work is there, you must do everything as she has told you! Detail oriented. Hate her right now. The lectures are good, the book is useless.
yea she's picky, but if you didn't learn that from when she graded the 1st hw, that's your fault. 190 is not a fun class, but she's the best out of the others. good lecturer, hw and midterms, straight forward.
To the student who said 1 in 3 fails: That is clearly not true. Her grades are based on an approximate distribution and only the bottom 10% receive F's
One of the best professors in SJSU. Her lectures are clear, and that makes the textbook useless. Her exams are straight forward - won't ask you anything she did't mention before.
great teacher, she explains everything, and it is up to you to practice. ignore the book just listen her lectures. she cares a lot about students who show her that they care about her class as well.
Although she is hard, but the way she explains is really clear and understandable. Be sure don't miss any class, otherwise you will in trouble.
You get to compete with the other students in your class. top 10% get A's, 20% B's,40% C's, 20%D's, and 10% F's. Go to tutoring if you need help. Don't fall behind. She is very meticulous about her work and grading. I ended up with a C.
Old Battleaxe! Very unfriendly, don't go to her office hours! Need to go to class, lectures are detailed. Grades very hard. It's very normal to get 4 pts out of 10 on hmwk. I don't recommend this bitty.
Very difficult class (and prerequisites don't help). The book is terrible, and she lectures too fast. Exams are just like the homework/notes, but still have hard multi-step problems. Grades students based on comparitive standing. Nice lady though.
The class material is pretty easy but she grades hard. She's a nice person and makes lectures more interesting than most. It does get a little boring though. Pay attention to the details!
She is a great teacher, very clear as to what she expects and what will be on the tests. Gives formula sheets along with every test! Overall tough grader but definitely able to learn a lot. Recommend taking her for both 90 and 190.
Excellent teacher and very helpful during office hours. You need to do your work, since exams are based off of it.
tough class. she explains everything in detail - go by her lectures, not the book. but she grades on a bell curve (half get Cs or worse). you have to work hard to do well, but overall i think she is a good prof.
Good Instructor. She grades pretty strictly but most of it is fair.As long as you attend all lectures your're good for the exams. Quite understanding too.
This teacher explains everything in detail, follow the lectures not the book. Tests are like homework, no big surprises
hot dressing. Very cute and nice teacher. Clear letures, you don't need to read texbook if you show up every class. Easy A.
If your a math wizz you'll do fine.Otherwise get ready for a pop quiz every week and lots of HW. Tests are about as hard as they come. She gets off on making nightmare problems for tests. Do yourself a favor and take another prof.
tough tests, quizzes every week, as long as you pay attention and attend every class you will do good. She treats people like they're stupid if you ask a question in class... I have a low B in class and I actually understand all the concepts...good luck
Her class is so hard. If you think you are going to get an easy grade, you are wrong. Grades so strictly even small mistakes are going to lower your score. Take another professor if you want a better grade than C.
Makes the class look all fine and dandy in the begining, but its far from that. She is VERY hard, and has thing with the professor that wrote the book-always talking about him, she makes ugly faces at you when you do anything "against her norm" and grades VERY HARD, and detailed!! Suck as a teacher.
Don't ask questions she will embarrass you. She is not helpful out of class or in class. She teaches really good. No need to read the book. You have to come to class and pay attention. Final was VERY hard. Exams are not easy. Work load is not bad, but you must understand the material or you'll get F
Her lecture is very clear; don't have to read the book. 3 mid + 1 final; 10 HW + 10 pop quizes (there are from the HW.) Make sure you do the HWs. Very hard on grading! Passing no problem! Good Luck and have fun!
Teaches too good.very very very hard grader.hw easy points, quiz based on hw problems.if you forget to put negative sign, she will take off 2 points, very hard grader.no need of book except the problem pages. if u ask a question after class, she doesnot talk fiendly (very Limited talk)
easy professor, tough class. professor anaya is probably your best chance at an easy statistics class. lectures are simple and clean. she also reviews everyday. highly recommended.
She really makes you work hard. Well, you have to if you want to pass with a good grade. Very well prepared lectures, no need for the book, except for homeworks. However, her grading can't get worse than this. She is picky about every little thing.Tought to approach, but for 190 she is the best.
she's very detailed in her lectures but her class is kinda hard. You have to compete with the rest of the class to get an A or B. If you want something better than a C i recommend another teacher. So i hear Yetimyan is nice.
Mrs. Anaya is the bomb. Nitpicky about things during tests which might jip you on points, so you gotta make sure you cover EVERY SINGLE BASE in all your test questions. During lecture though, she makes sure you know which bases to cover which is what makes her good.
This class is not easy at all. Dont expect to pass it with flying color. everything is based on tests and quiz's. If that aint you then forget it. She is soooo picky with grading and is her TA. Not recommended.
Her class is very hard. I would only recommend taking it if you are a math wizz. If you do bad during the first part of the class you are destined to get a D or worse in the class. The tests consist of 3-4 REALLY over difficult problems (compared to HW) And if you miss anything its like half credit.
She is a very nice lady, and she can teach!!! She's very clear on all the stuff, so don't need to read the textbook at all. But you have to do the homework, cause the quizes are based on the hw. I dont' think it's a hard class if you study the hw, which i didn't spend much time.
If you take her for Bus 90, take her for 190. You will be way ahead and better off. Do the homework...you'll be set for the quizzes. Tests are hard, but if you understand the material, you will do good. Best math teacher that I have ever had!
Really hard class. She lectures thuroughly, but quizes and exams are like damn! I don't remember that!? Weekly homework that isn't graded, but weekly quizes that are. If you are good with math and such, take her. But otherwise, look elsewhere.
Do the homework!! Quizes are from the homework and tests combine all the homework and quizes into one complicated question. If you go to class she explains everything and if you do your homework, you can get a good grade!!
She's an old hag.. i'm a A student who loves math and she ruined it for me. Would not let me make up a midterm i missed so she gave me the only F i've ever had in my life. Tests are hard and she's very strict on partial credit.
Anaya is a really good teacher. She really does know her stuff. But she can be kinda odd and b*tchy sometimes. Bus 90 alone is a difficult course so you need to go to every class so that you won't fall behind. 9 pop quizzes. 3 midterms are tough (only 5 problems 20 pts each). Cumulative final. Got out with a B.
She gets off on making the hardest problems for tests. HW is long and boring. She has no real world experience in business and it shows. Her class is like a little game between students since 30% will get D's and F's no matter what. I still have nightmares about this class.
I really don't understand why people have such a hard time with her. She's an easy teacher if you study and listen to her lectures and come to her class everyday. Well, I didn't study for her class, since her lectures were really good! I ended with a B+ was 1 rank away from the A-, she grades fairly. It's not hard to get aC, I rarely took good note
Arrogant should be her last name.

Anaya makes you earn for every point you get. She is picky, picky, and more picky on her quizes and midterm. If you want to learn, then take her but if you want an easy A look elsewhere. We had a midterm on the second to last day of the sememser..then a final the very next week...WTF is that??I worked my ass off and still only got a damn C.
She is really hard, but also really good. I failed 90 % of my quizes and still passed with D.
Good teacher, but her exams are SUPER HARD. They are not multiple choice and she takes off points for every little thing. But she grades on a bell curve, so top xx% get As, next xx% get Bs, etc etc.
Anaya is one of the best teachers I have had at SJSU. She explains everything very well. I have heard horror stories about other teachers, but Anaya is awesome. She is a very hard grader on her midterms. Quizes are problems from your HW. Do the HW and study for the tests, I mean, REALLY STUDY. I worked my A$$ off and got a B.
The best stats teacher I have had, she makes it easy to understand. Must stay on top of work to get a good grade, just study before tests to get mediocre grade. just take this class and get through stats, it will take work but she is a lot easier than other teachers.
she was a great teacher. willing to help the students. works problems out. goes over the material very smoothly, easy to understand. follow along, do the work, and do well. couldn't ask for more.

I took this class for 1 .5 weeks and ended up dropping it. There is a ridiculous amount of work for being a lower GE class. I literally spent 3+ hours on each assignment, and I'm not a dumb person either. Take Prof. Yu. He's funner and better.

She's teaches the material well and is pretty fair, not the easiest grader.
She is a real good teacher. Bad grader though, her exams are EXTREMELY tough. I think she gets a kick out of it. Teaches the material well, is clear and gives good notes. Take her only if you really want to know the subject and are willing to study often, otherwise I recommend you take someone else.
she sucks, her teaching methods dont follow the book and she abbreviates her notes so that it very confusing if your new to the subject.this class is meant for people who want to spend their entire time learning the material on their own since she doesnt teach in a way that directly works with the homework, extremely picky and hard grader, look to
No doubt about it her quizzes and tests are tough. It pays to have a study buddy that's taken her already and knows her style. Quiz every week, 2MT, & a final weighted as MT#3; MT grades on a curve. She doesn't follow the book at times because it has sloppy explanations. Attend her class often, if not everyday, and do the homework on time.
Knows her stuff, took her for stats also, clearly explains examples. Don't follow book explainations, but do the assigned howework problems, based on her methods, 3MTs no finals, best math teacher I have ever had.
I don't know what the commenter below was talking about, but I thought that her lectures were very clear and easy to understand. The 8 quizzes weren't that bad, just make sure you do your HW b/c the quizzes are ALWAYS on the HW problems. 3 midterms and the final wasn't all that bad. =] Always do your HW! - It helps a lot.
Oh, man. Her 190 midterm aka "final" was the hardest midterm I took. Basically, she tested us on advanced stuff, that you should've picked up. 3 problems 100 points. The assessment was difficult, if you couldn't pick up the wordings..but I realized how simple it was. If you wanna learn take her, but easy grade..NO.
Anaya is a great lecturer. She is very clear and if you pay full attention, the algorithms(which this class is all about mostly)should be explained effectively.8 quizzes two midterms and final, all of which are doable but not easy.Extremely harsh grader, the final was difficult and not given enough time.Best of all final grade taken from normal curve
I worried about this class the whole semester, it was hard as hell. I noticed most people getting 85+ or less than 60 on the tests, not many in the middle. She grades on the curve so if you're not the best at math you will have a hard time. I got an F in the class. Took prof Yu in the summer and is is great, got a "B".
Very hard. The quizes are quite as similar as homework but the exam is HArd. Her lectures are great and so i think her policies are fair and furthermore she did show great confident on her ability and teaching. So in conclusion, avoid her if u do not like math. Take her if u r a fan.
Shes a HORRIBLE professor. Very unhelpful and ****y when you ask a question or ask her to slow down to explain. she doesnt care about the students , just likes to hear her own annoying voice. don't take her unless you plan to fail! not sure why she is still employed here, should not be teaching ANYONE!
Hard classes, great professor. If you take her for 90, then take her for 190 because you will be used to her style of teaching. She goes through everything step-by-step and uses multiple examples to clarify. The problems presented during class will appear on quizzes and exams with different data, so take good notes! I got a B in both classes.
The class was pretty difficult, and Prof. Anaya wasn't very helpful either. Be glad that she curves the class. I had about a 55% at the end, and ended up with a D. That's all you need to pass.
Good professor. Exams can be little tricky, but she explains everything well in the class. Highly recommended..
I'm usually good at math, and I worked my assoff for this class. Ended up with a B+. If you want an A, it's not that easy since only 10% of class gets A's. But if you just want to pass with a decent grade and are willing to attend class regularly, work hard, take her.
Not the easiest or hardiest class to get an A. If your looking for an A, be prepared to step it up during midterms and finals. Definitely don't get overconfident if you took her for BUS90. I got an A in that class and a B in BUS190. Small mistakes will eat away at your grade if you're not careful! Awesome professor.
Acctg. Finance students - 190 is a breeze! All the hoopla about it being tough was probly created by management, marketing etc. majors - hehe go figure! Take it with any instructor you like but Anaya just makes this course fun..she's charismatic, funny and the lectures go by so fast that you actually feel good about learning whatever she teaches.
She knows her stuff, teaches at a very fast pace. A bit eccentric but enjoyable. You have to do the work - unless you are great at math already. If you do the homework you will pass the class. She gets a little cranky when asked for help.If you hang in there, she lightens up though. Textbook stinks and no help if you do not "get" it in lecture.
She is a character with many stories about the author of the textbook. She gives excellent explanations of math problems, and is animated and lively.
The most organized instructor, knows her stuff inside and out and is high energy! She has no time for people that don't listen or don't do the work but is more than willing to help those that try. Do homework before class, take good notes, tests are from lecture/homework. I read about 10 pages of text. Math is my worst subject, I got an A-
GREAT TEACHER!! I actually enjoyed 190!! She was very detailed and all tests and quizzes were based on hw prob's. Explained material very very well. And was very willing to help during her office hours!! I wish she would teach finance classes!!
Amazing, hip, perky, fun, one badass professor. Extremely clear, helpful, everything a professor is supposed to be. I enjoy coming to class because i know i wont get confused.
professor is nice clear lectures, make sure you do the homework even though she wont collect all but 1 assignment. The tests are VERY hard but if you keep up on the HW you should do decent. A quiz almost every week but that is to make sure students are doing the assignments. overall great professor
Teacher teaches clearly and organized. One quiz every week. she is kinda moody and grumpy in the morning. Definitely do HW. Exams are far more difficult than quiz and hw. She's an ok teacher.
She taught clearly and concisely, but grades tough. I did not like her attitude either. She was definitely grumpy, blunt, and a bit self-absorbed. Her tests were difficult, and she was stingy with giving partial points. I got a D:( If you are like me, that if you don't like the teacher, then you end up hating the class...then pls DO NOT take her.
Very difficult subject matter, and the she may come off as a bit abrasive at first, but she was a good teacher. She is extremely helpful at office hours and if you show enough interest in wanting to do well it helps "curve" your grade even more so than the already set curve (which also helps a lot)!
she shows you the easiest examples in class...the tests are 10 times harder. Basically, the quizzes are right off the hmwk, so do your hmwk and the quizzes will raise your grade....the better you understand the hmwk the more likely you'll do well on her exams. I had a B in the class the entire time, but then i turned the final in blank and got a C
Its tough material, but she explains it very clearly with the examples she gives. Unfortunately she had to leave all her classes b/c she got sick - thats when i realized how good a prof she is; the replacements were tougher and diff. to understand, she was clear and to the point. Anaya is the prof. to take for 190, highly recommended.
Very clear and organized. Explains things very well and is a very nice approachable person willing to help. Quizzes are given when HW (HW doesn't count nor is it collected) is due. There are no surprises on quizzes or exams. I don't think you could have a better teacher for this course. Just keep up with the homework and you'll be ok.
Teaches the subject very clearly. Book is used for HW, though it is not collected. Is a tough grader, so don't expect an easy A. Normally puts 3 questions per exam, so points are deducted for slightest errors. Attending lectures is essential, since she teaches the best ways to solve the problems. Highly recommended.
It is a hard class, tests are 10 times harder then quizzes. I have never seen any instructor deducting so many points for minor errors. She grades on the curve, but only 30% students will receive B and above, other instructors usually give more A. If you want a good grade, take someone else.
Professor Anaya is sooo helpful. She's very peppy and giggles at her own jokes. She goes over everything. If you have questions she'll make sure you understand. Tests are fairly long. Quizes are SUPER easy. Don't make my mistake, show up to class! Missing quizzes can hurt you badly.
The class is not very difficult. The only thing difficult thing is her grading. She will deduct a lot of points for small mistakes. MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW HER DIRECTIONS. Her project was difficult because her instructions were very confusing. I got a B+ and i didnt even try..........
Excellent, down-to-earth examples. Quizzes after last lecture of section. Clear, coherent, and always happy to help. Exams and Quizzes are challenging, but quite reasonable if you do all of the suggested homework. You will actually learn from her. She is retiring after Spring 2010, so take her class now. Warning: Grades on a curve.
Go to class and pay attention! She is VERY CLEAR and goes over everything the easiest way she can. The hw is from the book but is not due but the quizzes are like it. Do practice problems and read over notes to study and you'll do fine on tests and quizzes. Highly recommended!
My suggestions are come to class and take good notes to make this class a breeze. You don't have to read the book except for scanning 1 chapter. Everything is written on the board and can't be clearer. She is somewhat of a hard grader since there are only 3-4 written problems on exams. Grades on a curve, but it is to benefit the class.
Prof Anaya knows her stuff, she goes through the steps for all the math problems. Hard class just show up and ask for help. Great teacher you just need to pay attention. Test are way harder than quizes.
Great teacher. Don't buy the book, it will confuse you more than helps you. Just take good notes when she lectures in class. She offers great examples and constantly asks the class if they understand everything before she moves on. Ms. Anaya chuckles in class all the time, it's endearing. Math is always a harder topic but she makes it bearable.
