This professor is great. I will strongly recomend her. she gives a lot of assigments; however, they are easy. She also gives you the opportunity to correct your essays for a second time in order to get a better grade.

Boring... I've had more fun watching paint dry. You miss three times and she fails you although she lets you rewrite your essay's for a better grade.

Great professor. She will go out of her way to help you. It will become second nature to write good essays if you put forth the effort. You will be thankfull for the writing experience. Response assignments are easy. Class discussions based on responses. Not for the timid and lazy.

Its true she does give alot of work. Her favorite to give out are essays. She is very critical about their every detail but she knows her stuff & she does it to teach you.Everyone warned me but she was not bad at all..I can honestly say she is one teacher that actually cares & makes it intresting.This is the best English teacher I've had!

VERY GOOD PROF!! You will LEARN if you take her class. Yes, you will get HW and have a lot of essays to write BUT this will help you for the rest of your days in college, I promise!! Great teacher! The people who are complaining are just plain lazy. She generally takes pride in watching you progress throughout the semester and will bend over backwards to help you out.

Excellent teacher! The kind you do not usually see these days. do not feak when she gives you the Syllabus. It can all be done. She will bend over backwards if she sees you are intested. the most important outcome of this class is that you will come out of it with grammer knowledge. i think she is a good professor, although she is very strict. she also embarrasses people.

Concise and to the point, is Prof. Cortez. A sense of humor which makes you at ease while combining the lesson to be taught. Very practical in her teachings and knows everyone in the class allowing each student to participate. It is a pleasure to have Cortez as my professor. I intend to take ENC1102 with her next semester.

This class is very hard... You will be writing 8 essays.. one per week.. in adition to responses and storys. Also, she will make a test every 2 or 3 week.. not multiple choice... She thinks she is funny, but she is not. Good teacher, nice person but hard class.

Prof. Cortez is an awesome professor. YES, you must pay attention; but what you learn in her class is more than grammar and it's mechanics. Some of the stories from The Longwood Reader book are important, she doesn't grade your homework's punctuation on the stories. She's just making sure you got something from the article. Excellent Professor!

Also some of the handouts that she gives are really great. She gave us one called Ways in Which We Lie or something like that. Very useful.

If you are lazy, don't take this class! There is A LOT of work and an essay every week which are the most important parts of your grade. Although there was a lot of work i did learn a lot and she is very helpful. Take her if you truly want to learn but make time for homework!

She's a great teacher the only problem is that she is HARD! Her workload is heavy and hard to keep up with if you're lazy. But she's nice and has her corny humor. She gives no extra credit whatsoever, so if you take her make sure you do all her work. I don't even know how i passed with a C. Goodluck!

She grades with red ink. If your Major is Ebonics with a Degree in Ghetto Fabulous, your essays will look like the walls of a slaughterhouse. She is a delightful genius. Will definitely take her again. Sometimes fashionably late. Always fun. Honored to have been her student! Workload is demanding as it is rewarding and never unreasonable. LOVE her.

The key to her courses: Do your homework and at least attempt to do the essays. Follow the set rules to writing an essay and you will ace the class. The best Professor

She was honestly THE BEST professor at BC that Ive ever taken. She makes you work for your grade, as you should but she's also very lenient. All you really have to do to pass this class is keep up with her essays. She's an amazing teacher, she keeps things fun, discussions are always funny and you won't regret it. I would take her class again!

This professor seemed a little out there when I first met her but I warmed up to her because she is a sweetheart. Do expect a lot of homework. By a lot, I mean atleast 2-3 analysis a week. 4 essays throughout the course and a 8-10 page research paper. She is extremely lenient though and let's you turn things in late for lower grade.

She's sweet teacher and will give you the benefit of the doubt. She often looses track on what she is supposed to do during class and starts talking about deep things. But what she talks about has substance and depth to it. She's a super harsh grader. First few hws I tuned in, I recieved C's on. She will help you though.

Mrs. Cortez had load of assignments but would let us turn them in whenever (even on the last day). She is pretty flexible with tardiness and gives pretty interesting lectures.

Shes a sweet heart and truly cares about her students success. Has a sense of humor so shes always trying to make jokes. Will help you re-do two of the papers that are due and no final.

I took Professor Cortez for ENC 1101, and I wish i took her for 1102! She was very nice and very understanding. She made class fun and gave many students a chance to participate and speak their mind during class. She always gave good feed back for essays and she allowed for students to revise their essays and turn them in for a better grade.

I took both ENC 1101 and ENC 1102 with Cortez. ENC 1101 we had an essay a week (about) & we had to answer question about the reading. In ENC 1102 we had about an essay a week, a literary assignment (answer questions about the reading(s)) and a major research project. If you have a busy schedule, I would not recommend ENC 1102 with her.

Janet is not an easy teacher but let me tell you that i had her for ENC1101 and her class has taught me so much. She has a great sense of humor, she is funny and understandable. She gives out like 6 essays ( not hard ) but you can not be lazy in her class.. i love her and thank her for teaching me for the semester i had her for.

Professor Cortez is extremely nice and really wants every student to pass. She is very caring. Her class is paper heavy. Expect to write and type alot. Professor Cortez is a tough grader but gives you extra time and chances to improve. Great professor, hard assignments.

Prof. Cortez really teaches you how to write eloquently. I specifically took her because of that, since I want to be an attorney. If your major doesn't really require great writing skills, then save yourself from the weekly essays in addition to the weekly readings with questions. Ask her for help on writing an essay, and she will sit one on one

Probably the most paper heavy class I have ever taken. She has like 2-3 essays per homework, but she is very flexible with due dates. Her research topics are very broad, and an interesting list to choose from. She is a tough grader, but will allow you to re-do the essays if you did not like the grade given.

She is so nice and genuinely cares about her students. She gives great feedback for our writing, and wants us to do the best we can. But, there is lots of homework and essays. It is a lot, but if you time yourself correctly then you can do it. In class, she just talks about random things though. Not very important to attend them.

Missing a few assignments can pile up and become extremely overwhelming, especially if it is essays. I would recommend NOT to take this class if you are a procrastinator or overall lazy.

Despite her class having a lot of essays and also stories to read and answer questions for homework, Professor Cortez is a very nice and decent professor. Though she can sometimes grade things late, she tries to get to know students well and even has a good sense of humor. We even had political debates relating to the stories we read.
