First, her name is spelled "Faughnan" not "Fraughnan." She is a very good at trying to help you but she is unorganized. Sometimes it seems like she doesn't know the material herself. I would recommend you to take Ed. He curves and explains stuff better.
You have to work for any accounting class but Prof. Faughnan is one of the better professors. She is willing to help you if you need it. Do the homework and study and you'll be fine!
GMU ACCT 301 curriculum has 2 stratagems: 1)Their desire to weed out students who will certainly get C in 331. 2)Their agreement with McGraw-Hill. The result is a class that forces the Prof to proctor, not teach. If you pour over the text, and connect you may make it above a C+. All 301 has the same exams, so your Prof has no clue whats on them.
3 exams, comprehensive final. She's very clear about what you need to do. But you MUST work for it.
She is not very helpful and she goes off topic so much. Although she says taking her is a good choice if you really want to learn, its horrible. I have already met people that failed her class, which is about half.
Her lectures are off topic and can be very confusing. The test are tough! If your are not an accounting major you can expect to get a C ( and you will have to work for it)
Gotta work hard for this class. I am not sure if this Professor made this class hard or the course is hard it self. There are many topic that you would already have to know from before. there are just too many things to take care of. This professor is okay, and again gotta work hard.
She seems to get an ego boost out of making her class harder than necessary. Is unprofessional and jaded and doesn't respect her students much. Her lectures make you underestimate the exams. Overall a very unattractive personality and a sub-par teacher. You'll feel like she doesn't want you to succeed as she always tells you you'll barely pass.
Took this class during the summer and it was demanding. Textbook is a must since all hw is online. The professor is okay, reads off PPT and does hw problem. Exams were bases on the hw and PPT. She is very picky on details when it comes to grading. Final was tough, it was not straightforward as the previous exams
PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. She is really good at explaining things in class, but you really should do the homework as many times as you can. All about how much you can memorize. Buy the Study guide for the book if you can. Helped me get a B.
Excellent professor. She will make you work for your grade. But you will learn.
I took another professor the spring before and had to W. I took Faughnan over the summer and was one of 3 students who got 100s on the first two exams. I was all over the textbook 24/7 literally rewriting it. She is a decent lecturer and gives hints on what the short answer problems are for the exams and how to get the most points out of them.
Professor Faughnan is great. She is willing and able to go the extra mile when you need help. This is a fairly new course and she created the material. I was in the first class in this section and some kinks were still being ironed out. There is a lot of material to cover so expect to do the work. So long as you do so your grade will not suffer.
The class could have been more well-organized. I don't know if it's her fault or because it's a new course. Could be both. While she's helpful and her lectures are very interesting, she often goes off-topic and she assigns homework about things that aren't even on the tests and waste your time. Come to class,or you won't know what are on exams
doesn't give extra credit & her grading is ridiculous she'll take pnts off for min. things. Hws are super long & useless bc when its tests time, she will choose some problems from hw plus add things that 1) were not gone over class & 2)were not on hw. She will tell u whats on the test only to find out its not there &all that worrying was 4 nothing
To be honest Prof. Faughnah is average. Her lectures are not bad but then they don't properly prepare you for her difficult exams. Her grading set up is good, you have multiple assessments but just 33 questions on an exam are equal to 250 points so failing 2 or 3 questions can reduce you to a B. Overall, she's okay if you study hard outside class
Faughnan doesn't actually TEACH anything. She justs talks. I have no doubt in my mind that I would've gotten the same grade if I would've just stayed in my room and read the textbook. The exams only have about 22 MC ?s so if you miss a handful then you're grade is already shot. DONT PROCRASTINATE ON THE HW & LEARNSMARTS!
She is a very tough grader, makes her exams very difficult, its almost as if she wants people to fail. I spent hours studying for her exams and i still ended up failing, when I asked her to open up the extra hw problems for practice she told me no. She is not helpful at all and will not care if you pass or fail. you are basically teaching yourself.
She does not prepare you for the trick questions she will ask during the exams and does not stick to the main points of learning material. She is full of surprises, and i assure you they're not pleasant. She is not very caring towards the students. DO NOT TAKE HER.
No. Extremely average professor, did not feel prepared for exams because she hardly covers the material in lecture. More than half the classes had nothing to do with what would be graded on exams. She seems like a good person but it almost felt like she wanted students to get tripped up on the midterm. Seriously, consider taking someone else.
This class should be a slam-dunk, easy A. However, I agree with the sentiments that her exams were hardly reflective of the lecture material. Too many irrelevant group projects that didn't really help. She's not a bad professor, and the material was fairly light for an accounting course. But something was missing.. the midterm was abysmal.
grade based on tests & connect homework. Tests are MC with FRQ. Accessible and nice. Definitely read chapters before class. Go to lectures as she does not post on BB except grades and updated schedule. Tells a lot of stories. In class problems are easy. Tests more based on connect homework. 1 project. 4 things determine grade. All tests cumulative
Professor Faughnan is a good professor however, get ready to read the textbook. I mean a lot! Her tests are strictly from the textbook readings. She has a tough grading criteria. I had to take her again but she was more helpful on the second attempt. Read the textbook and do her in class example problems and you will do well.
I had no idea how to do anything. Everything was so hard, and the final exam was ridiculously hard. I'm pretty sure she writes her exams to fail half the class. Accounting shouldn't be this difficult. Every week there's tons of homework and I don't have time to do so much homework. Nothing makes sense and I have to take this class again.
She is a good professor, and she has solid and practical knowledge of accounting. Her lecture is straightforward and to the point. She tells you everything you need to know, but you still need to practice more by yourself after class - that's the only way to learn accounting. People who complain about her need to realize no one can spoon feed them.
You should review the textbook and do learnsmarts before her lectures. The lectures are not very helpful but may fill in some gaps. The exams are based on the connect homework and problems she does in class. Practice the homework many times and do the multiple choice questions at the end of each chapter. Exams carry a lot of weight, do the hw!!
By far the worst professor I have had at Mason. Lots of homework and Learn Smart that will account for only 2 points of overall grade. Her tests are not relevant to her lectures. She doesn't respond to emails and basically doesn't care if you pass or fail. Talked about Disney for the most part. ACC303 was an easy class, but she made it hell.
professor faughnan is really nice and I agree this class can be hard but only if you don't put work in to it. what I did was just read the textbook and which helped me a lot with the exams. and I also did the connect hw.
Horrible. Worst thing ever. We don't even need this professor - because she does nothing! You are only teaching yourself. Her casual lectures and heavy homework do not help the ridiculous tests. They come from nowhere. She doesn't care about her students even a little bit, even when they ask for help. You can't find her after class time either.
She is a wonderful professor. She makes you work, but what professor doesn't? She cares and tries her best to make the material understandable
Easily one of THE worst accounting professors at GMU.. Anyone but her if you have to take an accounting course. You gonna bust your butt with the heavy homework assignments, and she purposely makes the accounting exams tougher than it should. She drifts off topic and has great stories but get ready to cry and teach yourself everything.
Loved her... i actually walked out the class learning something vs not learning it at all... was very grateful for her. She tries to hint what to study more without saying it directly. Clear in teaching. KNOWS what she is saying ...
I am half way through her class, heavy work on LearnSmart only worth 50 point out of 1000 points. LMAO! One easy project is 100 points. 3 exams, 200, 250 and 400 points. She might talk about a bit of the textbook, but soon she would jump to other topics. Doing easy problem in class but total different in exams. Don't take her if you want to learn!
Overall, the class itself was not hard. VERY conceptual rather than numerical. No journal entries, just basic finan statements, ratios, and tax/audit terminology. Since the classes have increased for acct303, this class no longer requires a group project, but rather assigns individual projects & HW on Wiley after each exam is taken (exams3 total).
She is a nice professor and her door is always open for help. But it's hard and she doesn't explain thoroughly the work. You definitely need the textbook. Also study the back of the chapters it's where most work is from. She has this, "no funny business" aura, and her teaching technique is too fast pace. Get ready to put in a to of work.
Horrabale professor, I have ever in my life. She doesnt teach anything in class. You have to teach yourself basically. She just talk about Disney and other stuff. I will suggest DO NoT take her if you want to learn and pass this class. Its better to skip semester instead with her. Please dont do mistake like me to take with her
Go off topics all the times! Teach yourself everything. She expects you know everything before class. Avoid her!!
Rushing you during office hours. respond email late. she seems like having no patient for anyone! Teach yourself. having horrible experience with her ever!
First exam: heavy theories and memorizing lots of information/definition! you do not know what to study except the long problem! Second exam (to me easier): Remembering formulas and calculating stuff (most questions). Watch out: her answer key is wrong! she wont admit it in class because she thinks nobody knows. Go see her and ask why you wrong!
First semester at GMU, and this class is the only available one! Worst professor ever! Tests really hard, she won't give you a study guide or tell you what to study! she only gives you vague information! Can spend 40/75mins class to talk about something else. take her if u like to study at home and go to class to listen her telling about her job!
I took her for ACCT 303,this class is easier than ACCT 330 based on my experience so far. 1st exam: all basic IC statements, 2nd exam: break even analysis,make/buy, sell/process. 3rd exam:tax/audit. The first 2 exams should be a breeze if you kept your notes from ACCT 203. There are 3 online individual projects that you can easily work with others
One of the Worse Prof I ever had in my life, so disappointed. ACCT is one of my favorite subject but she RUINED it. She should better off staying home instead of coming to GMU just to RUIN Students GPA. your GPA would get free FALL. There was only one class open and I took her and made biggest mistake in my entire Academic Life. AVOID HER AVOIDHER
ONE WORD, STAY AWAY.
Please feel free to take her if you love to learn about Disney World and other non accounting topics.
NO matter how hard you study for the exams but still ended up Failing. ACCT303 should be easier than 330 but the way the exams are its impossible to get even a passing grade.
Learned more about Disney that ACCT. Rambles off topic A LOT and seems like she is stalling for time until the end of class and then teaches you some new materials you really need. Good luck.
The course material is difficult. Doesn't matter what prof you take. Faughnan at least tries to do all she can to help students succeed. You have to scrape out all the points you can. Do all the homework study the slides and notes and you can pass. It'll take hard work but that's the same across the department. Faughnan at least made it interesting
It's seems like she starts rating herself. Enough said!
Awful, stressful, not interesting
Took her class in ACT 303 (thank goodness no ACT 330) and it was straightforward. The fist two exams are literally ACT 203 review... financial statements and break-point even stuff. The third exam is based on taxes and auditing which was new for me. This class isn't bad as long as you put some effort into studying! She does talk about Disney ALOT!
Not necessarily as bad as people are making her out to be on here, but it's not an easy class, that's for sure. I'd recommend studying from the homework problems and making sure you understand how to thoroughly apply concepts. She's gonna warn you that you have to study 12 hours per week to pass, but as long as you study thoroughly you should be OK
She will talk about Disneys financial position for most her lectures and if there is enough time left she will do an exercise related to the class. I wish she will actually focus on teaching problems related to our class instead. How could you succeed in her class if lectures dont help you learn? Her tests are very hard even after studying hours
Just took her summer 2018 class. All the ratings below are wrong. She is the nicest and easiest professor you can take for ACC 303. Her grading is a point system. Class participation and attendance are test grades themselves so you can fail every test and still pass. Three online project that are done at home which are very easy. Easy to pass.
She is the nicest professor and so much different from the rest of the acct professors. She has personality and the below ratings are inaccurate. Coming to class is an easy A, not showing up gives you an automatic zero. The exams are conceptual with barely any math calculations. Easier than acct 203.
This professor helps me understand the terms easier than any accounting professor Ive taken with. You will definitely need to read the textbooks to understand the concepts and the terms.
Her class was relaxed, you just had to show up and do the work. Exams were not difficult.
She is not prepared for the class. She uses PowerPoint provided from Wiley, but it seems like she checks the slides during the class, not before the class. She tells us to use textbook and the sources provided from the Wiley for the exam, but her exam is not from there. She is mean to students & gives unclear lecture. Half of class failed the exam
If you come to her lectures and do all of the homework assignments, then you'll be prepared for the exams and online projects. Her exams are difficult, but manageable if you go through the slides and skim the textbook.
I thought Professor Faughnan was a good professor. She was better than my Account 203 professor. She helped the class with understanding the material by using real world examples. Class participation does matter, if you don't show up after the second class you cannot earn participation points. You do have to study especially for the second test.
I never review professors but she was so awful! She is nice a person but a terrible professor. She gives you a 0 for attendance if you miss more than 2 classes even though we would learn absolutely nothing in class. She would open the power-point and would only talk about 2 or 3 slide and ramble about irrelevant things. I taught myself everything.
I took the online class and you really dont have to try too hard to pass. There are 3 exams and 3 small online projects. I failed the first 2 exams, missed some homework- still passed with a 73. Easy online homework & reflection due every week. Reflection answers come from textbook- MAKE SURE TO REWORD- I got points off. Study homework for exams
Not recommend her. Her tests are hard. U dont learn anything from her
ACC330 has 4 things. 2 midterms + 1 final 80% fail one and fail the class!!! No help, review by her even though she is head of Accounting Department pointless bantering as lectures. Learned more at NOVA Annandale with prof Marsh in 220 SAVE 1000 by either online only or completely different teacher Waste of a class. Also HW10%+ project10%
She does not teach anything in her lectures, so might as well just read the textbook instead. There are 4 tests that make up majority of the course grade, with the cumulative final being 40%. She didn't go over one of the free responses that was final exam, so that was an automatic loss of 5% off the final grade. Very unaccommodating too!
It's a typical online class and she was a very accessible professor. Assignments helped you retain the material and the exams weren't that bad. Read the textbook and do the HWs you should be ok!
Her lectures make you to get confused. You will learn better if you study by yourself. She is not good at teaching and not showing respects to students. After every exam, I strongly recommend you to go her office and check your answers. I found that the right answer was marked wrong, but she did not announce it to the class to avoid her extra work.
She talks about things in class that dont matter and then puts the things she should be teaching on the tests. Her tests are ridiculous and take it from me im a straight A student. If there are any other professors available take them!!!! I think she's been doing this too long and has become over confident in her ability to actually teach.
Professor Faughnan does go off-topic, but she does go over the exam's long problems in depth before we take the exam. The chapters aren't gone over in depth in class, so be sure to read the chapter and do some hw before class. The class is graded out of 1000 points, with 2 exams + final, hw, acct cycle project, and quizzes (lowest score dropped).
Just dont do it. Terrible professor and terrible online course. Exams are almost impossible to pass. She finally takes pity on everyone failing every exam and gives a study guide for the final. Ridiculous.
The online course is set up nicely, but you pretty much have to fend for yourself. She does not provide study guides at all for exams, which to me is garbage since the exams cover numerous chapters. SO MUCH HOMEWORK! You have homework from the book then you have journals for the online class and then projects. Definitely do the Orion extra practice
Not the best teacher, leaves the majority of the class to fend for themselves via the homework assignments and assigned reading. One major project that was super easy but test are killers. Just terms and definitions nothing pertaining to the ACCT process itself! Bad teacher
There is a huge about of reading. Which is why people do not do so well in the class, because they refuse to read the textbook. But those that chose to read the text book end up doing well in the class. I did a decent job with the reading of the chapters and did all my home works, which gave me enough to get a B-.
She gets bad ratings because the majority of people refuse to read the textbook which is a must in any accounting class. I found her lectures to be very helpful. She is also a kind person who will gladly answer questions. Her exams can be quite tough (and she even admits this), so make sure you study.
Professor Faughnan is alright. Its best to read the chapters before class, since she basically goes over the material and the work in class and sees if you can apply it to problems. The textbook really helped me understand the materials. Homework was online and there was 3 online projects that were easy. Exams can be hard so study!!
Do not take this professor save your time and money, online class is a joke, no support and unnecessarily difficult, projects are a joke and exams are super difficult. You are pretty much going to google the whole class.... Even if you read the textbook (as recommended) you are going to end up teaching yourself..... a joke.
AVOID. I got 100's on everything (with the exception of an assignment she gave me the wrong grade on and refused to change) and got a lower grade on the first exam. It was hard to get used to her exam style, because of that first test low grade, i didn't pass the course. She is completely unwilling to help you and is often wrong about grades. AVOID
Prof Faughnan was outstanding. If you participated in the online conferences, restitution, and office hours, you would have received the help you needed to pass this class. Exams were difficult as this is one of the hardest classes, especially during a 5-week course. Everything else and projects should bring your grades back up without a doubt.
Avoid this Professor at all cost, this is the textbook definition of a professor that no longer cares. You are going to have to teach yourself the whole semester and she makes the exam extra difficult (for no reason). Not worth the headaches. GMU is failing with this program. No interaction with the class, Horrible!!!!
Avoid Professor Faughnan. She is not a teacher she is grader alone. You will teach yourself the whole class and she will give you a low grades. She is an absolute joke of a professor and very rude over email. I'm not one to blame a professor for a bad grade but she is the ONLY thing to blame because her tests are hard and she teaches nothing.
Horrible professor but unfortunately she is the course coordinator , so regardless of what professor you take you are stuck with her. 3 exams that are worth 75% of your grade and 2 projects ( 1 hour each). Good luck!!!
Apparently, Prof is knowledgeable in terms of the subject. However, it does not mean that she is an educator. She is not methodical at all and makes the course is super difficult, especially in the pandemic, when relatives are sick. Her video lectures are totally useless. The best way is to read the book. Don't trust her study guides.
Prepare to fail. That's all I'm going to say. she is truly unforgiving
Its the standard work for the ACCT department for online, a lot of tedious tasks to do but if you pay attention and practice homework problems you'll end up doing well on exams. Professor is nice and posts enough material to force you to somewhat get what you're learning.
3 exams worth 15%,20% and25% of your grade, lockdown w/camera checks all recording, will immediately send u to the honors code or give you a 0 if she finds anything sus. Given 60 mins for assignment2 and said its a time crunch, the day of says to submit it at 55 min if not submit when time runs out we get a 0 submitted incomplete got a 61.5%
Have a question regarding course content? Don't bother asking her! It's not that she isn't able to help, she's unwilling. That's even worse. You can tell by the way she talks she thinks all her students are dumb and cheating. What a horrible attitude to have as an educator. I'd like to think most students mean well and are trying hard.
ACCT 303 is really terrible and annoying with any professor as the content is pretty uniform among all the sections. professor faughnan class was not harder than others but her tets were very difficult. the few times i emailed her with questions she was was not very helpful at all. i recommend taking this class with another professor.
I've spent countless nights stressing over this course. Don't rely on the homework or quizzes whatsoever and straight read the book and do the practice questions at the end of the chapters to get anywhere close to passing. Prof. Faughnan is also pretty rude over email, so it's better to reach out to the TAs for any assistance on the work.
Students have to self-teach themselves through WileyPlus. Useless asking for help. Spams emails which is really annoying. HW has strict deadlines. Exams are very difficult with no curve. Online Assignments are a joke - says you must submit at 55 minutes yet we're supposed to have 1hr to complete them? Not enough time regardless. AVOID HER!!!
Incredibly difficult exams, mega lengthy assignments with extremely unrealistic time frame, no TI calculators, you are truly seen as a cheater before enrolling, insane how long it takes them to meticulously watch your video recordings to make sure you weren't cheating, and more More ensuring no cheating than teaching. GMU accounting program BROKEN
She is very rude through email. The two online assignments are basically exams and there is not enough to time given to complete them. She definitely thinks we all are going to cheat and she does not actually help. The review sheets are not helpful. I would avoid taking her class if you can.
Avoid her!!!. She is so stressful.
SAVE YOURSELF AND YOUR GPA, SHE EXPECTS EVERYONE TO KNOW ACCOUNTING OVERNIGHT.
Faughnan is the WORST professor at George Mason!! I cannot emphasize this enoughShe believes that any & all students are cheaters and treats them as such!! NOT FRIENDLY AT ALL! Expects you to memorize the textbook. Lies about material on the exam. I did well because of prior ACCT knowledge but I DO NOT RECOMMEND HER! AVOID HER LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!!
Professor Faughnan needs to find a new profession preferably one that she is intrinsically passionate about. The poor grades student receive in this class is a direct reflection of her terrible attitude. It's truly unfortunate the amount of money students pour into universities with less than mediocre "professors".
Professor Faughnan would rather see a hundred legitimate students fail than have one cheater pass. She cares more about catching cheaters than anything else. Exams are insanely difficult considering the hw and lectures don't cover them. Way too much content dumped on business students who are only there because they're forced to take two accts.
Horrible, she doesn't teach, all she cares about is accusing people of being cheaters, her lectures are stories about how she's trying to catch a cheater, barely talks about anything in regards to the topic. Doesn't even know what is going to be on her own exams, just tell you to "study everything" Doesn't let you review exams at all.
Async class. Basically taught myself. Barely spoke with the Prof, she wasn't helpful anyway. How I got A: read every chapter and take notes; try your best to understand the concepts that is how you will get a decent grade (B or higher) on the 3 exams, do all hw & quizzes and try to get a good grades on them. Not too difficult 2 online assignments.
This class is set up for you to pass if you do all Wiley HW, quizzes, ace the 2 online assignment and study enough to get a decent grade. Yes, she doesn't actually work the math problems w you step by step, but there's video tutorials posted on BB that probably do a better job anyways. Learn this for your own sake as it will be on exams.
She's a nice person and is accommodating to students' needs, however she relies way too much on Wiley, which is the worst piece of software I've ever used. The class is hard, so be ready to pour your heart and soul into it. Lockdown browser w/ webcam is used for exams, and you're guilty until proven innocent when it comes to cheating, fyi
Save yourself take literally anyone else. She cares more about honor coding half her class then teaching. She honor coded 4 of my friends for basically no reason, its not worth having to go through that whole process. Just find literally anyone else. Save yourself. 95% of her lectures are her talking about catching cheaters. Should speak for itself
She makes the class more stressful than it needs to be. Whenever you ask her questions, she'll just accuse you of not reading the syllabus or schedule. You have to email her several times to finally get the answer you want, because she will completely ignore your question and just say check the syllabus. Can't believe GMU hires ppl like this.
Professor Faugnan makes accounting 10x harder than it should be. She does not accommodate for students, and is completely unreasonable. The worst part is that she's in charge of the department, so all the professors HAVE to abide by her rules.
She controls the curriculum for ACCT303, and she is on a power trip. It feels like she designs the class for you to fail and does not accommodate you whatsoever. She's a little machine chugging along, getting a kick out of watching college students fail her class.
She's one of those self entitled white ladies with a main purpose in life is to catch cheaters instead of genuinely seeing them succeed. I don't usually say this but she is one of the bad ones and a huge SOB. It's so sad to see a university hire these kinds of people and make their students fail when they paid so much money for an awful experience.
Avoid Janet at all costs. She is actually the worst professor I've ever encountered. She doesn't actually teach you anything. The class is extremely difficult for an entry level course. The exams are actually the hardest exams I've ever taken. No amount of studying helps. It's miserable, makes you genuinely hate college. And accounting and Janet.
HORRIBLE, I've taken bad professors before thinking this would be just like all the others. Oh, how wrong I was. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HER. You'll regret it. Doesn't teach anything, tests are impossible, accuses basically everyone of cheating.
Never seen anyone more paranoid about students cheating. She will practically make studying impossible because of how paranoid she is. She will take down studying videos remove any material that would help you study on blackboard, and forces all other professors to do the same. She is designing the course to be as tough as possible. Worst professor
All 3 exams use lockdown, and heavily impact your grade . Didn't understand why course material was locked the day of exams since lockdown browser is used. Study guides are vague, so STUDY HARD until it becomes 2nd nature. I wish that I chose a different prof., or taken this class over the summer by itself. Stressful course! Did not enjoy.
My biggest piece of advice is to avoid her at all costs. This class is rough for accounting majors and it is 100x worse for any other major. The exams are HARD and she doesn't help you prepare for them at all, the "study guides" are literally the textbook objectives for the chapters & every other assignment is worth basically nothing. Save yourself
This is the worst 303 professor I've ever seen.
I am an accounting major so I enjoy/grasp accounting concepts pretty easily but it was nearly impossible to do so with this professor. This class sets you up for failure. I barely passed because of how difficult she made it. The worst class I have taken in college. Horrible experience 0/10.
Thoroughly enjoyed my previous accounting class and was looking forward to taking this class at the beginning of the semester. Huge disappointment. I'm paying a lot of money for a professor who can teach this subject but she just links multiple videos. The only material on exams I could answer confidently was material I learned last semester. Avoid
Accounting 303 at Mason requires a major restructuring and a positive step towards that would be by firing Janet. The amount of stress this class gives you ages student by 5 years. Student have to pay crazy amount for Willey for homework's but exams are nothing like what is done weekly. Mason is heading for mediocrity as a result for this. AVOID!
Avoid her if you can, this class is impossible.
She was so bad. I want to give her a zero, but that's not possible. So I give her a one.
Utterly disappointing. I expected to learn accounting. Grossly disorganized, her syllabus and blackboard are full of inconsistencies. Exams completely unlike quizzes/class work. Totally unexpected. She does no lectures, none. You have to watch a random collection of terrible videos she collects for you. She is unreasonably focused on cheating.
Professional ability to deliver material is utterly UNprofessional. Sad to see she is the head of acct dept. to which the professors have no say what they can teach. The hw & recitation problems don't match up with any exam. She forces you to use her Wiley course for online hw, weirdly enough her name is on the book to. NEW PROFESSOR EACH SEMESTER
She is one of the most challenging professor I have had in my academic career. Not because of the curriculum but because of her unprofessionalism and insane grading. If you want to pass ACCT 303, I just wish you the best.
Literally one of the toughest classes I have ever taken in my class. She is an extremely harsh grader to the point that almost half the class fails. She is the only person to teach these classes at George Mason therefore students have to retake her class over and over again. If I could take another Professor I would.
Holy cow is this professor bad.
I really liked her. She was very willing to meet and work through concepts that were confusing.
Everything is done online. You work on your own. Make time to study and do all the quizzes and homeworks and you'll pass. No surprises.
Not a terrible teacher, not a great one though. She was willing to meet up with groups to discuss and give feedback but had TAs for every class online instead. Her syllabus was utterly disorganized. She had had constant wrong dates and often have the next week's work due before it was due on the syllabus. Very test heavy(65%).
3 lockdown browser exams, 1 project/10 person per group, weekly Wiley hm, end of chapter quizzes, Pre chapter quiz, recitation session ( 75 min)every Friday, and recitation problems due on Friday but similar to homework. Lots to read but everyone can manage. Professor has stupid exam rules as she is paranoid thinking students cheat on tests.
She really isn't as bad as everyone says. Accounting 303 isn't too bad of a class. The homework is long at times but do the work and you will pass. She is paranoid about the cheating but don't give her a reason to look at you directly and you're fine.
This is by far the WORST teacher I've ever had at either NOVA or GMU. SHE. DOESN'T. TEACH!
Really nice professor
Be prepared to read and study. Her class is very test heavy and there is a lot of homework. I took this for summer and did most of the hw ahead of time, which was really helpful in keeping up with this class. She is quite unorganized with grading and was not clear if there was extra credit. Expect to dedicate a huge portion of your time.
Pretty rude in general. Has an arrogance about her and not such the type that gives you comfortable asking for feedback or help overall. I would suggest they have performance evaluations as I feel for the level a course she's teaching could improve so much more. Would definitely avoid this teacher. Be prepared to teach yourself a hard subject. GL!
Her expectations are high as a professor. She has the intent for all her students to do well. If you really study and practice the problems, use all your resources that she provides, and utilize your time well, you'll pass. Reaching out to her for one on one or with her TA is also helpful. She is kind during 1 on 1 with her.
I see a ton of negative reviews on Professor Faughnan, but she was the best professor for ACC 303. Keep in mind that accounting in general is a tough course, so you have to put in hard work regardless of which professor you get. Highly suggest face to face with this professor because she will do everything she can to pass you.
Anyone giving Prof. Faughnan a poor rating is likely very lazy and expects good grades to be given without much effort. Accounting is not easy, especially if you don't put in the work. Her online class was EXTREMELY well organized and very easy if you put in the required hours. She can be very direct in her delivery which can hurt some feelings.
Not much teaching or learning for the online class. Weekly content was basically free videos from LinkedIn Learning or YouTube. There's a livestream every so often but don't count on watching them afterwards because they're not consistently posted. Tests are extremely difficult because they r nothing like the textbook.
She is not as bad as I expected. She gave a lot of ways to make your grade higher but getting an A in this class is very difficult. Passing is not so bad.
I'm not sure why she has such low ratings; unfortunately the fact is that accounting in general is not easy and does require work, hence why the course has alot of hw but that's regardless of your proff (all the same hws) Faughnan is one of my favorite, she is very accessible, actually cares abt her students, and provides resources to help.
This professor assumes you will cheat, to the point that two questions in every weekly test require you sign off on the honor code and acknowledge the punishments for cheating. According to the professor, you will not pass if you do not attend every office hour and TA meeting. Do not take this course with other time-intensive courses.
Where do I begin with? Well, Janet is bad. So bad that I would rather prefer not being born in this world than to take her class again.
I have never gone out of my way to rate a professor, but avoid at all costs. 3 Exams and two Write out exams make up 80% of your grade. I am fluent in all the review material before the exam and then the exams hit me with information I have not seen before.
Does not teach what is on the exam, only 5% of what is on the homework is in the exam
i took the online course, didn't expect much, but wow. acc 303 is something you cant get around. this will require some work and time to be put in if u want to pass. the professor is actually accessible outside of class and the TA's are available throughout the week if u need. my advice is, just take the class. get a friend or two and knock itout
This was my 2nd time taking acc and I hated every single day of it. Ngl tho, the homework and everything relates to the write out projects directly. You don't get a study guide for anything. This course is better online than in person. Janet is understanding with sickness and make-up tests, so that's good. The course is just generally hard.
The class was hard but if you do the assignments, extra credit, and all supplemental learnings you will do fine. The tests are different than how the material is taught but if you did all the work you should be fine. Professor is always willing to meet to help and I encourage you to meet her. She is super nice when you take time to meet with her.
Yea, prof isn't great like all the reviews say. The assignments aren't like the exams. It's almost impossible to get an A, but with enough effort, you can still pass. I took the 4.5-week summer class. Exam every week. 2-3 modules a week, 10-15 assignments are due every week. This class will be your life for a month. I spent 7-12 hours per module.
I took this class online during the summer and oh boy let me tell you, this class ain't the easiest. It literally made me cry and not wanna exist. But the key to passing is to STUDY. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH FNAN 303. Both classes are very difficult, so don't doing recommend that. Very test-heavy class, so be ready. I believe in you, good luck!
Be ready to study your brain off for this class. If you wanna pass, all you gotta do is study and PRACTICE. This course relies heavily on tests, so mastering the concepts is key. The professor is pretty accessible outside of class and tries her best to fix problems and help you. Do your best on the modules too and you'll be golden, kiddo.
Worst professor at gmu school of business. She controls all of the ACC 303 courses as the lead instructor in the department. Tests and quizzes are extremely hard if you don't study. HW and Recitations are helpful. Now I'm considering transfering out of GMU. Avoid this professor at all costs.
- You'll learn from studying by yourself, not from her lecture. - Too much work every week. You must read the chapter, complete the video assignment, Smartbook homework, supplemental practice assignment, attend recitation, do recitation assignment, and a weekly quiz. - Spam you with emails every week - Very unorganized.
Get ready to study and at least spend 10 hours a week in this class alone. Everything is through McGraw and she is extremely paranoid about cheating. Makes your sign up for this thing called bio-sig as well as use proctorio for exams. As if that wasn't enough you have to rip up your scrap paper on camera and takes forever to receive grades.
I'm surprised she didn't expect us to give a drop of blood to prove we were, in fact, the person we said we were. She is obsessed with cheaters. Not pleasant to speak to either. I would safely assume she is the entire reason the nation has an accountant shortage. I don't see how anyone would take her class and sign up to major in it.
I don't know where to start. She is horrible in accounting and you have to put up 40 hours a week to study the material on your own. Although she is the head of the accounting department and controls all of the other instructors' courses every semester. I would recommend transfering out of GMU to another university with a better business school.
Do you have a fulltime job? No. Well now you do with this class, plus overtime. The class has a ridiculous amount of work for accounting. Don't take with finance, or any other class that has a crazy amount of homework. The tests are decent, it's just the homework do not wait until the weekend to start unless you plan on giving them up.
She assigns way too much work as if we don't already have other classes to take. All she cares about is cheaters and makes you sign up for bio-sig to get into the class and she uses proctorio. She does not care about your success and is rude. She takes forever to grade the exams and doesn't even let you see your grade throughout the whole course.
4 exams make up 65% of the class grade. If you did well in acct203, you'll be fine. Uses McgrawHill Connect. Requires Proctorio on exams. weekly assignments are tedious and laborious. I'd only take again because I know accounting so the professor is irrelevant to me.
If you ever wanted to be inspired by accounting this class isn't for you than, somehow my joy for basic accounting has been ruined by this class. The professor is very nice, however the length you must take to complete all the assignments is just miserable; video HW, smart book HW, Quiz, Reg HW, and Recitation HW: Weekly. Also: 4 lockdown tests.
She was alright, it was do able cause I took it online, she tried to make it hard with web cam and lockdown, but you can only do so much ahah. passable just put in the effort for the hws. she's not a good professor but the class is passable. she does provide resources, but idk I just didn't like her.
Hopefully y'all be ready to take this heavy course in the business school. I don't understand why people complain about how hard this class is. Proctorio is required on all exams. TAs are confusing and not helpful. All assignments are done through MHC. You have to put up to 40 hours of studying per week or else you'll never understand the material.
Be prepared to work! A lot of weekly assignments. Try doing them all to get ahead of the grade. I was scared for the class but its not THAT bad. Exams all on proctorio, could tell shes paranoid of cheating but the content was pretty much from the weekly assignments so nothing too crazy. The class itself requires a lot of work regardless of the prof
I am so glad I had Professor Manuel Vasquez (but Professor Janet is in charge of ACCT 303). He cared about each student, and wanted everyone to pass. Which I did, but the semester was brutal.
I honestly enjoyed Professor Faughnan! She was honest with us from the start, don't procrastinate and you should pass. Her lectures were filled with real-life scenarios, she would do her best to answer any class questions. The class is not easy but she wants you to pass. I recommend taking this class with a friend so you have someone to study with.
Easy class if you atleast got a C+ in Acct 203. Same process as Acct 203 but easier. This class is McGraw Hill so take it for what it is. Professor Faughnan is understanding if you reach out to her prior to exams or the TA's for help. Seriously just put in a little work, be honest and take yourself seriously and you'll get minimum a B
Anyone with anxiety should steer clear. She spams emails and is not accessible.
This class is no walk in the park. The workload is intense, with weekly assignments that can feel tedious. However, if you put in the effort and utilize resources like Unstuck AI for study prep, you can succeed. The exams are manageable if you stay on top of the material.
I guess she did her job as an online proctor but if there are other options, take them please.
She said to prepare to study 10-15 hours per week, but then she gave things that we had not gone over on the exams. The final is prepared for a failure 63 questions for only 90 minutes, which include mcq and calculations. When asked for more time she said time is ample. Will not work with timing, just a very inconsiderate professor.
Absolutely ridiculous expectations. MCQ's on Exams are nothing like the homeworks or other assignments provided. Does not teach anything other than a unhelpful recitation video. Get ready to self teach. If you did good in the previous accounting course, you will be fine. Beware of the final, it will blindside you.
unrealistic expectations and barely gave any time to do the midterm let alone the final which had way more questions. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
If you took acct 203 at Mason and passed then this class shouldn't be that hard. I was expecting way worse but it isn't that bad. She is obsessed with catching cheaters so beware. The homework will take over your life and your soul. Her exams are easy (with the exception of the final) actually to the point where her hw questions are harder.
This class was tough. The professor would hide your current grade so you were left often wondering how well you were doing in the class.
Used biosigID, organized modules, unlimited HW attempts, check work help a ton, continuous reps of practice, each week structured similarly, exams similar to material, know what to expect, good lecture videos with explanations, communicates often, knowledgeable professor. Take with the expectation to do work! Lots of good information/lists provided
The professor removes reviews and adds her own. Take that with a grain of salt and make your own assumptions of this professor.
ACC 303 is a hard course for all business students. She truly cares and has office hours, so attend if you do not understand. There's a bunch of TAs, and recitation, which you can use as your resources to pass! She's nice and caring!!
I don't understand all the hate. Prof. is not bad. Only annoyance the amount of emails sent, the class is through McGraw Hill connect (her book) and its all of the typical assignments you see. 5-6 assignments due per week with 2 off weeks & 4 tests. Assignments are relevant & easy. She responds to emails quick and if you study you'll be good.
stay away pls
