Lectures quickly, and doesn't make it completely clear what you'll need to identify for tests. However, quizzes are pretty easy. Midterm and final each worth 1/3 of the grade. Midterm easier than final, but they aren't "killer" if you study hard. Homework gives you free points.
Not especially clear during her lectures what you'll need to know for quizzes and lectures. Midterm and final worth are pretty thorough and worth alot of your grade. Overall an enjoyable class and a nice lady.
Instructor was never clear on assignments or directions for lab activities. During one class when questioned about a quiz she raised her voice and yelled at the class to "quit your ****ing". NOT a good instructor. I do not recomend anyone taking her class.
what a worthless teacher hard and unclear in lecture do not take her
She was a very nice teacher. Compared to other anatomy and physiology teachers she is kinda easy.
Janet was basically one of the worst teachers I have ever had. Half the time in class she went over stuff that had nothing to do with the tests or quizes. It wasnt a suprise to take a quiz and not know ANY of it because none of it was lecured on. You write an entire essay and its worth a whole 5 points. She also has an attitude. I had her for a bio 123 lab also and she wasnt AS bad. She is hard to understand with saying "um" after every other word. Her lectures arent very clear
Pretty lady, when she 1st started teaching i heard she was not good. she has improved alot! she is a lot of fun and very clear. tests are good as long as you studied. students who say mean things about her; probably are big time slackerzz!
Was very disappointed in the way she instructed. It was hard to understand her as she would change her thinking mid sentence. Don't take her if you are looking for an instructor that goes into great detail on assignments & quizes.
She is not a best teacher. No matter how hard you study, you will miss bunch of questions on the exams, because her questions are so tricky. Good luck.
Very unclear with assignments and labs, says "um" A LOT, which makes it difficult to understand the point of her lectures, and expects too much for a one credit level class. I ended up auditing the class just so that I would not have a failing grade on my records. Would not recommend
If you ask the questions she will answer them. Also if you stay there for the whole class period you'll get more face time with her for any troubles you are having with labs.
I loved Janet! She was willing to work with anyone who needed help. The class was a little difficult, but not too bad if you're willing to put in the effort. I would take another class from her anyday.
Very nice and really helpful but I don't think teaching is her thing. DOESN"T BUDGE ON THE DECIMAL POINTS FOR YOUR GRADE.
Janet is very nice but she is not teaching material. Every time a student asks a question she does not know the answer. Also she says we ask too much questions because we are behind other sections of the class. I did not learn anything from her. I had to retake A&P I from another instructor. I would not recommend this teacher.
Janet isn't an easy A but if you study, it's possible. She makes her notes and Powerpoints available online, use the materials and you'll do ok. Lectures are fun and interesting. I'd take her class again.
Janet is very good at explaining complicated concepts. Weekly short answer quizes and multiple choice tests with short essay to be done at home. A&P is not easy and you have to study daily but Janet does as much as she can to make you sucessful at learning the material.
Questions on her exams not clear and her weekly quizes also not clear.
A&P is a difficult class but Janet really does a nice job making it understandable. Quizes are helpful and she keeps you posted on your standing in the class. You have to do the work but Janet makes it possible to do it well.
She takes a personal interest in the students, a little goofy, but very intelligent. Hard teacher but fair.
OMG! She annoyed me!! She did a terrible job lecturing as students would ask questions she would lecture you on that instead of the required material!! I felt like i was wasting my time in her lecture and I could have learned more reading the text then listening to her!! Doesn't know material, unorganized, and has NO CLASSROOM control!
she so rude about everything even if u r sick and have to go home she throughs a fit and yells at u when u ask for what happen in class the day before that class
Janet is a great instructor. A&PI is packed full of information and pretty high paced but she lays everything out for you at the start of the semester. As long as you print out and study all of her powerpoint and note packets you'll be on track. Do the PREP Q's and there wont be a single question on a quiz or test you wont know! She keeps things fu
not good
I have spent the last few months wondering what they were thinking when they hire her.But then the thought hit me they thought they were hiring for a kindergarten class, and not a college biology class! You have been warned!
I had her for lecture and lab for A&P I. This is not an easy course, but she does a lot to help you succeed. You cannot slack off. Her test and quiz questions relate directly to lecture and materials that she has available. Great study guides and keeps you well informed on your grade. I would take her classes again.
I think she is a very good teacher. Like other students have said before if you follow the material she hands out to you this is an easy B class for sure. You have to do the work.
she is goofy for sure, but she knows what she's talkin about. she gives pop quizes!!! her anounced quizes and pop quizes aren't usefull towards the exam at all! be prepared for A and B tests
Prof. Fildes teaches tough courses, but is adept at it. She provides a slew of resources and tests almost constantly, but her method absolutely works. Highly recommended!
Professor is very nice but is not a good teacher. Her way of teaching is just by answering questions from the reading. There were whole sections in her class notes that she never talked about. The worse part is she says one thing and does another we had a quiz about midway thru the semester and were told that the stuff on the quiz would not be v
I love Janet! She is goofy, but really has a passion for anatomy. She is a good teacher and wants you to be a good student. She takes attendance, has pop quizes, scheduled quizes and exams. She posts all of her info online, and gives opportunities for extra credit.
Professor Fildes is a great instructor. She writes up class notes for every chapter and everything in her notes are on the tests. I never opened the text books. I have taken her for A&P1 and Bio1410 both classes recieved an A. Also gives extra credit.
Overall pretty good instructor. When I first started the class I was a bit annoyed because she says "um" and "ok" A LOT, but after getting to know her it got much better. She gives excellent notes and study guides - use them it will be much easier to get through the class. Lots of quizzes, but info comes right from the notes and study guides.
Great teacher very visual, she explains things so you can truly grasp them. Very fun and upbeat just what you need craming everything into a 12 week summmer term. Lots of pop quizzes which help and great notes for the exams, very sweet, GREAT teacher!
seems like a good teacher, got me thru this class ok, was not the most interesting person in the world, but knows her bio.
She was a pretty good teacher. I really appreciated how she would take time to answer questions when we didn't fully understand something. She is kind of goofy and our class didn't really get her sense of humor, but she got us through the course. I would recommend her.
She is good. Keep up with the work. She gives a lot of homework, so that way you will have extra pts at the end of the term. I am going to take her for a and p too.
Great teacher. You will do every exercise in the lab manual and then some, but you will know the information well. She is very good at answering questions and has no problem repeating if you need to hear it again. Very patient and kind.
She can't concentrate on one subject at a time; all over the place.Very hyper with a HORRIBLE sense of humor, but oddly enough still a nice person - socially inept. If you have ADD she's great for you, otherwise STAY AWAY!
I took her for A&P I lecture class. Her exams are very hard, quizzes are easy if you study and the essay questions are somewhat hard. I did not do to well in her class because her lectures and her notes did not suffice for me. I studied very very hard for one of the exams and received a D. I also agree with the previous comment left.
Janet is nice enough, BUT, she is very goofy and she will drone on and on and not give a break. In addition, attendance is mandatory...she passes a sheet around each class. Book is not mandatory since she tests off her notes. Problem is, her notes are jumbled and confusing in spots. I suggest a better organized prof.
She was a very nice teacher, and answered all questions. I liked her class a lot. I didn?t like her exams. They were not always clear, even if you knew the answer. They could be really confusing. I really studied hard and knew the information, but tests were just weird sometimes.
NOT RECOMMENDED FOR LAB - PERIOD! Treated lab as lecture so we rarely had enough time to complete the lab assignment w/in 2hr 50min class time. Also a control freak. Invariably she would walk us through over half the lab, then grudgingly allow us to work on our own after SHE separated us into groups. Welcome to elementary school!
She is ridiculous. The quizzes make ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE!! They are left wide open for interpretation and when you try and talk to her, she is very defensive about it. If its not in HER words the answers are wrong. She is all over the place and makes no sense. Do yourself a favor and take it from another prof.
I didn't particullary like her teaching methods and I didn't listen to her lectures becasue she just confused me but she is very nice. I missed the final and she let me retake it the following term which is amazing cause if she hadn't done that I would have had to retake the whole class.
I would not recommend taking this class with her. She was very confusing. Test questions were not clear and there was never a clear study guide. It did not seem to matter how much I studied I still was never prepared enough.
Alot of lab is memorization, she does give some tricks to help you remember. Study your quizes since most of the written midterm & final are directly from the quiz qs. She gives lots of extra credit. Really nice lady, smart but a little goofy. I took her for both A&P I and II. Don't need the lab book, just follow her lesson plans.
has a unique character that you have to get used to. once you get her style understanding her is easier. shes not easy on grading papers.
Janet obviously knows what she's talking about, and she is quite passionate. If you study from the chapter notes she provides on Blackboard, you will see exactly what she will emphasize on exams and quizzes. She's a little quirky, but if you're prepared for class and you pay attention, you'll do fine. Pretty simple equation for success here folks.
Very passionate about the subject, material that will be on tests is unclear leaving a whole pool of information that is potentially testable. Harsh on grading papers, also not very clear. not a bad teacher, her teaching methods are just not for everyone..
Recommended!! She knows her stuff and makes biology FUN!! Just make sure and read, do homework, study tests for final and you will pass with flying colors!!
Floods you with information and wants you to remember very small nit picky information. Kind of an odd person but knows what she teaches well.
Janet is a Biology nutcake but if you try and like her you will. Read the chapter, break her notes down and study them before each mastery quiz. If you want the A that bad you will get it!
Absolutely did not like her teaching
Janet is a very odd person, the way she speaks can be very distracting. After every few words she says "you got it" "ya" "ah huh" "ok" "sure" "yes" Its quite distracting and annoying. She doesnt keep her word and is always changing things. She spends to much time talking about irrelivant nonsense. Not worth your time or money. DO NOT TAKE.
Great Teacher! Her classes are very interesting, you can never get bored. She knows a lot so the best thing is just study a bit more in order to get a good grade because she is very fair in her tests.
People might say she is odd but her "problem" is she is very smart! That is a teacher that loves what she is doing and that is rare. If you don't mind studying a bit more go for it because her classes are very interesting indeed.
Great instructor! She teaches people as they were in college not in high-school , her classes are full of information. Her tests are fair so you have to study!
Her dress and behaviors were distracting. Then once the lecture began her crutch on using words like, "yeah, ok, right" made it hard to keep concentration on the material. Her grading methods were inconsistent. When asked for help on HW she was completely unhelpful and defensive. High book usage because you get zero from the lecture.
This teacher really needs to take a public speaking course. Her lectures are riddled with "Umm, yeah, okay"s and it's hard to concentrate on it. She dresses and behaves so erratic. She gives exams then tells you after exactly what she wants written but won't let it slide on that first exam. Rude, strange individual.
She is hilarious. Easy to learn from and gives numerous opportunity for extra credit. So much fun. Mad that I had to drop her class due to personal reasons. Will take as many classes as I can from her!!
She is very smart and quirky took a few classes to get used to her.she put alot of info into her powerpoints.i did not do well on her tests no matter how hard i studied, they were very confusing. she expects alot of book studying outside of class and her lectures can be hard to focus on with her antics
Her class is very hard. She knows her stuff though. Be prepared to STUDY! I'd take it with another instructor still. It's a one credit class... It shouldn't be that much harder than the lecture.
Mastering A&P assignments due every week 30-40 questions on top of other hw she assigns Very tough quizzes On the mid term in our small lab of about 20 people 5 -7 bombed it and only 2 got A's. The mid term is about 100 questions. You'll be in the lab most times the entire 3 hours she likes to lecture. Tough grader will dock for small stuff
Janet is a horrible teacher. She babbles a lot in lectures by saying yeah, mmhm, okay? She takes off a lot of points for the simplest mistakes. DO NOT TAKE HER you will regret it. Her quizzes are very hard and misleading.
I took this class in the Fall of 2014. Worst class I have ever taken. She is a horrible professor and is not very willing to help you. Her quizzes are very hard and unclear. No matter how much you study, you will never make an A in this class. I do not recommend this professor.
The tests are beyond hard. When I asked for help or clarification, it was like talking to a wall. I do not recommend taking her.
She is the best! One of the nicest, helpful teachers I've had at CNM. She makes the class fun, and I actually wanted to be there. Never missed a class.
Janet is awesome and very helpful. However, she does not lecture often. She expects you to come to class with questions on the material rather than her lecturing them. She gives you a study guide and if you follow the study guide you will pass! She does pop quizzes/mastery quizzes often and a essay before each exam. Watch Wendy Riggs on YouTube!
Mrs. Janet is an amazing teacher, and I would say one of the best BIO teacher I've ever had! She gives a lot of extra credit, which will make a difference in your grade. Also assigns essays and a lot of quizzes plus 4 exams. You really have to study to pass the class with at least a C. I'd take her again because she knows anatomy very well!!!
Janet was one of my favorites. she was tough, but fair. She's got so much knowledge in A & P, andlove for the subject is captivating and addicting. If you are an "A" student who takes classes seriously and study, you will be able to make an A, but if you are a lazy one who skips class or one who is a procrastinator, you will suffer.
Avoid this instructor. Disorganized, pop quizzes, short answer and essays, seldom multiple choice, incomplete syllabus, assignments on blackboard, class handouts, homework, mastery assignments, and review assignments from A and P one. She has an extensive knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology but cannot impart it to her students. Huge time eater.
Professor Fildes was a great teacher and has a great sense of humor. There is a lot of homework and quizzes. The case studies were easy and related to the lecture. The tests were HARD. I got an "A" in this class. I do not recommend taking this class with other hard class. I took this class along with other two class and it was hard. Just be prepare
She took up more than half of our class period lecturing,so we would get out of lab late. She gives horrible feedback so don't bother asking her for help. When asking questions in class, know there are such things as stupid questions to her. Most of class received 6_%'s on final paper, says something about her teaching and misleading feedback.
unorganized power points, lots of pop quizzes on future chapters, very annoying woman (squeals and jumps and repeats sentences), openly said she had an entire class fail, probably less than 3 people passed with an A, majority of kids got C's (more got less) on exams. DO NOT TAKE HER
Janet is very eccentric, she's enthusiastic about her class which makes it easier to like, however she assigns a ton of work. There are quite a bit of handouts and masteringbio homework. I got C's on all the tests, it seems like I was never prepared enough, she does drop your lowest test score. a tough teacher for a tough subject like microbiology
I do not think her teaching is great, I enjoy her personality because shes a very nice and funny person, but her teaching is not so great in my opinion, she can improve her lectures.
I think Dr. Fildes is fantastic, one of the best biology professors. She is quirky but really knowledgeable, and her lectures made difficult material easy to understand. She offers a lot of handouts that guide the learning and the online exams gave us open class time to study and ask questions. I felt like I learned so much from her.
Regardless who you take Patho I or II with, it's just A LOT of material. Ms. Fildes is an excellent lecturer. She is passionate about the subject and is like a walking encyclopedia. She does assign a lot of homework, but it's only to help you understand the material and to be prepared for exams. In class Socrative quizzes also will help with exams.
Teaching methods unorthodox, for this class need more clear structure and not trying to confuse the students.
This class is hard enough and with her admitting that she is a tough teacher/grader she is not lying. If you cant learn she blames it on you and not herself even if more than half the class is failing. Be ready to read on your own, lots of self studying. Don't miss class due to pop quizzes. Quizzes are open answers. Passed with a B will NOT recomme
You need to go into class prepared because the way she explains it doesnt always help. First part of the semester wasnt too great but the last half did go fine.
Janet is a tough teacher and a tough grader. Youll have to do your reading for sure. I like it because I ended up retaining more information. She gives her notes out for each chapter and if you read the book and follow her notes word for word youll do just fine.
Hardest teacher ever! If you don't show up to class you will not pass because she gives pop quizzes everyday after class. Keeping up with the homework is hard because it's unclear what is assigned. I will never recommend to anyone! She is super smart and expects you to be on her level.
Janet is a very defensive teacher. She is very easily offended if you ask questions and she is a very tough grader. It is a very tough class regardless of your teacher, however she just seems to make it exceptionally harder to understand. When half of my class was failing she blamed it on our study habits and not trying hard enough. DON'T TAKE HER!
Horrible teacher. She is not very good at explaining anything. Her lectures have little to no information for the large amounts of homework that she provides. It is very hard to understand what shes talking about. Her tests are extremely hard. I suggest finding a different professor to take microbiology with.
Marked off points from my HW when it seemed like I wasn't specific enough. So much paper HW. No exam review days.
She is alright. I didn't really have any issues with her.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!The professor is a very defensive teacher and does not like when students asks question. Her lectures are all over the place and she repeats herself in a condescending way. She is a very tough grader and expects you to learn the material with no review of anything ever!Janet's teaching style is odd and I don't learn her way.
She is extremely though at grading and dosent answer the questions specifically and just gives vague answers which isnt helpful
I had her two semesters ago, she was really strict. the final exam we had wasn't anything that we learned in her class and all new stuff
Janet is an okay teacher, pay attention and youll be okay. I took her for lab and as long as I took time to read the directions I was fine. She also offers lots of extra credit
This class was particularly hard because you have to rely on yourself to pass. You need to READ read. You can't just skim through stuff. Part of the reason I got the grade I received was because I only looked at the PP that she provided which are very condensed and did not read the book. The practice tests are very different form the tests.
This professor really knows her stuff and she expects you to read the material beforehand... so do it and you will be fine.
Super difficult, lectures all over the place. None of the exam material ever matches the six page long study guides provided.
This professor made this class exceptionally hard. It's very test heavy with multiple exams due in the last week. The final was nothing like the material we went over on previous exams. She also gave us lectures, e-book, and powerpoints to look through and take notes on which was way too much. Overall, it was very hard to get a good grade and pass.
She was not an understanding teacher and her tests didn't seem to match the study guides. Not very helpful and very standoffish.
Very disorganized lectures, unclear expectations, LOTS of quizzes, hard grader. Prof doesn't provide any info prior to quizzes. Midterm study guide was unclear and didn't relate to exam. Prof makes several assignments due in the same week. Post lab questions are time consuming and difficult. Don't expect to know your grade until it's too late.
(Patho2) She is all over the place. Lectures are not helpful at all. She briefly reads powerpoints but does not go into enough detail. Her exams test on a higher level than she "teaches". She seems nice but you will not learn in her class. Expecting an easy A? Not this class. If you are hoping to learn something, no again.
This course is very difficult to begin with, and the amount of homework and quizzes is a huge workload. The tests are also very difficult, but there are many resources given in the course to help prepare and do well in the course.
Avoid if you can. Janet is nice, but you won't learn anything from her lectures in lab. The Lab Manual will get you through this class. Everything you need to know is in that thing so memorize the information, and watch the videos online. Janet comes off as flustered and unclear. Grades aren't posted till past midterm. Midterm exam is all hands on.
She is alright professor, theres a test every time you have her class. She does not explain well, lots of times people were confused on what to do. I took her lab, I would recommend to read the lab manual before the class to be prepared for tests.
Would not recommend. Doesn't do much to help if you ask. Hand writing is incredibly hard to read. Lectures feel completely useless. If youre taking her class, good luck
Janet is extremely unclear in what her expectations are for the class. Study guides very rarely, if not ever, align with assignments and exams. Her lectures are extremely vague, and this class feels impossible without outside resources. When asked for help, she gives little to no explanation, and sometimes I am more confused than before I asked.
"Yes, ok, Yes." not too bad but not great either, took her for a lab. wouldn't take her again if i had a choice but she isn't horrible
Literally the worst professor I've ever had. I have a masters degree and I've never seen someone so blatantly not follow lectures or the book. Her discussion she will mark wrong even when I had a literal doctor who specialized in that field help me answer them. Entry level class and she's on a power trip to make herself feel smart.
Easy class but she gets no information across. She is really bad at explaining material. I don't think I would have done good at all if I wasn't taking Bio lecture at the same time. There is a quiz at the beginning of every class and if you don't do good they can impact your overall grade. Wouldn't take her again but it was easy
