Dr. Hale is the coolest person I've ever met. She is a skydiver, lawyer, equestrian, pilot, trapeze artist, and a freakin' genius. Definitely a teacher you'll go back and see after the semester is over.

Hale is a nut! Very fun lady, great stories. Coursework is time consuming and requires a fair amound of reading. Recommended. Got to love that red hair! :)
Gives difficult tests but is fun to listen to in lecture. Would love to take another semester with her. I highly recommend.
Very good teacher and explains material very good. But Tests are hard and you have to apply all of the laws and principles to real life situations. I probably failed the Final.
Dr. Hale is one of the best professors I have ever had. I spend many days in her office just hanging out talking to her. She's will to do anything for her students from just helping with the class to resumes to recommendations. She really is an awesome person. Ive used the stuff I learned in her class many time since I took it as well, so all the time consuming work proved to be worth it. Very Recommended.
Janet is an awesome teacher. Her tests are a little tricky and hard but she loves what she does and really does a great job at clarify the subject for you.
This was my favorite class to go to because she gives very interesting lectures and is pretty entertaining, but she plays favorites BIG time to the athletes, i sat by 3 athletes and we all always made around the same grades but when the final grade came out they all got a B and i got a C...
Tests are tricky but class is so interesting. I would take her again. She loves what she does and it shows. She will go above and beyond for you if she can. What you learn you can actually apply to real life!
This class is very interesting. She is extremely helpful esp. with resumes. The tests are tricky and pretty hard but id much rather have her than the other law teachers. She seems to like guys more than girls though.
Great professor! This was by far my favorite class to go to. The tests are tricky as hell. Go to class everyday. Trust me..Im burnt out on school, and I love going to this class. Take good notes, listen, and read the book. However, I feel that I learned more from the lectures than the book. Some test questions are from the book to see if you read.
yea shes a cool teacher.. likes what she does, but i dont care about that i care about my grade. im halfway done with class and her tests are tricky..its like she words the ?'s so that you get confused and well for me the tests sucked. if your looking to have a cool teacher taker her if your looking for a easy grade dont..
She is an amazing professor!
she is a really interesting teacher, class is never boring!... It is good to go because she gives bonus points. There are only two tests but there over alot of material and not easy but the class is great!
Funny, forthright, enthusiastic, approachable - as Texas as peach cobbler, I tell ya. Wish I had a reason to take her again.
Wonderful instructor. Went to class even at 8am every time. Tells funny stories and still keeps it relevant to what you are learning. Tests are tricky though
TAKE HER! One of the best profs ever! Class is never boring. She gives extra credit quizzes. The final is not comprehensive. And you have the opportunity to retake all tests when you take the final. Everyone has the opportunity to make an A, even at the end of the semester. I didn't do well on 2 out of three tests..and I made a B.
She's crazy, but really funny. HARD HARD class if you have never taken Business Law. I just took it for my INTL Studies elective, and had no idea what was going on the whole time. I was completely lost the entire class, but i tried really hard and barely pulled a B.
I had her for University Seminar and lets just say I want to take her Business Law class just for fun. This lady is amazing. I can honestly say she has changed the way I see life now. Best professor ever!
One of the best profs I've ever had! Makes a boring subject interesting. Hard class, but it's worth her teaching, because you'll actually remembered what you learned.
loooved her. she's funny. talks alot. and sometimes gets off track. but she's an easy grader. lessons are short and interesting. learned some. only three papers for the class
She was really easy. I took the honors course it was a free a but I learned nothing lol.
cool woman. she's crazy but she's funny. The class is interesting and hard but she allows you to use notes on the test. I would totally recommend her.
She was talkative, and very informative about contract laws in different countries. She was a little crazy and a hoot to have as a teacher. Even though it was an 8 AM class, she grasped my attention. Definately reccomend her!
i didnt learn anything. shes more interested in telling you about her weekend than teaching the lesson. i took the honors course and she tends to be very unclear about what she wants from you for the papers. you will be lost as to what youre supposed to d o in her class, but other than that shes okay.
Worked as her GA, she's awesome! She allows you to be self motivated and doesn't micromanage. If you don't learn anything about BLAW you'll learn something about life, which is what college is all about! Have fun!
So hard. She's really interesting to listen to and I always leave class feeling good b/c she tells cool stories during lecture. THEN I get to the tests after days of studying detailed notes and can answer nothing.Only grades are tests and a hard research paper, so it's very easy to fail. She does let you retest, but tests are impossible.
She was reluctant to help me on my issues and did not make fair judgement in terms of grading.
Great class! It was definitely difficult but she made it worth being there at 8:00am.
Really cool professor. Gives good notes. Exams are MC. No homework. Only one project that we had a few months to work on about laws for a country of our choice. Must get the book. Exams suck. I read the book, came to every class and received a 72 on exam one. Was really worried. She allows you to re-take every exam at the end of the semester.
Vague. I loved BLaw, so I took this class, but Idk wtf I have learned so far. She treats the class like it's a blow off course by talking about Corgis for the first 40 minutes of every class, but the tests are difficult. She is pretty vague on what she wants for the project as well, so you just feel unprepared all the time.
Great professor! She knows her stuff and offers some extra credit that goes towards your final grade. She sometimes gets carried away with stories, but they always relate back to the topic. I would recommend her anyway of the week. Also, she is more than able to help with almost anything. Just go by her office hours and talk. She'll remember you.
Out of all of the classes that I've taken in college, this is one of the classes that I've learned the most in. It is a tough class but law is tough to learn and get the hang of. At times, her class seemed impossible to me but I worked hard and did all of the extra credit that she provided and I got a C in the class, so it is possible and worth it.
Ms Hale thaught one week at the Junior Programm at the DHBW. I don't think I have ever seen a professor like that, who makes you not only think, but consider all the possibilities (well, that's what law is about, right?). I simply loved it. I don't think there was any book which would explain things as well as she did. Thanks a lot, Ms Hale!
Lectures do not relate at all to the material covered on tests. Talks about her personal life more than anything that is relevant to the course material. Do not taker this professor.
She is the perfect professor if you do not want an A. Her lectures have absolutely nothing to do with test or quiz material. She will spend up to 75% of class talking about her personal life and her law practice. I would not recommend her if you're looking to keep your GPA high.
Interesting lady and class. I enjoyed the lectures and went to class everyday. She assigns a semester long project with no guidelines and expects a lot. I'm on the deans list for the 3rd semester and am a really dedicated student. I received a C on the project. If you can read minds, this is a good class for you.
While Dr. Hale is brilliant professor, and is very knowledgeable on Law, her classes are vague, with no opportunity for getting notes. If you are the type of person that learns from PowerPoint and physical notes, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS AT ALL. Most BLAW professors are the same way. I tried outline the chapters from the book and it did not help. :(
Dr. Hale is a very interesting person. Her lectures are all about her personal life and law practice. When she does stay on topic, its very confusing and vague. I've been on Dean's List for two semesters and got a C in the class. So do not take her class if you want to keep a high gpa.
I relied on my book almost 100% for this course. Hale is a wonderful person, but her lectures are very confusing. She doesn't use great visual note taking (no PPTS or Word Docs). She writes notes on a notebook paper. If you type your notes, it's hard. Tests are very hard. She's caring and cool, but organization is biggest problem.
Professor Hale's lectures are pointless to go to because she always goes off subject and the material she lectures about is not on her tests or quizzes. You MUST buy and read the textbook to pass this class and do the extra credits. If you want to keep a high GPA, do not take this class.
She only gives 3 tests which are your entire grade. Her lecture is just random notes she takes that make no sense. There are 2 out of class assignments which are use at the end of the semester as a curve IF she decides to give it. The tests are about 20 questions long consisting of questions from her notes/lecture and about 3 questions from book
She likes to talk about herself for half of the class, every class. "That's cool and all mrs. Hale, but is it on the test?" is a question you'll want to ask every time except no one does. Her tests are heavy and require self educating because, ha, you can not learn from he notes! Goodluck if you're stuck with her, i'd suggest dropping the course.
Very Tough class, and very little guidance on how to pass or any study methods. I suggest that you work hard from beginning to end in this class if you want a chance at even getting a C. She's a sweet lady but but being sweet is not going to help you pass.
NEED THE BOOK! It will help her lectures make more sense. Great teacher and grading structure however, test are difficult based on how lectures are given. The questions are great but the answers are not straight forward there is always two answers that could be the right one. Every once in a while you get a question with a straight forward answer
Dr. Hale is a wonderful person and professor - yes, she does tend to go off-topic, but if you read before class and then come with questions you will do well. I had a terrible semester due to some personal issues and Dr. Hale was incredibly kind and understanding. If you are struggling and you talk to her, she will help in any way she can.
Dr. Hale, although a very interesting woman did not help me learn a single thing about business law. Whenever taking notes in class, I knew she knew what she was talking about, but she didn't know how to get that across to the students.
Gets off topic but pay attention because most of her tests are based off her lectures. Get the book, there's a lot of info your gonna need for the half sheet of notes she lets you use during the 3 tests (Which can be retaken). She's VERY generious with extra credit. Go to the office hours, be good to her and she'll be good to you. That's the key.
Professor Hale is an amazing professor! Her lectures sometimes get off topic but she shares many stories that are interesting and provide examples. She only has three exams for the overall grade, but you get a cheat sheet and can retest at the end of the semester. She also gives tons of extra credit and a generous curve! I loved her class.
Tests don't reflect lectures and are extremely hard even with a cheat sheet. No guidelines are given for country study project. She was more interested in talking about her extracurriculars and dogs than the information we needed to succeed in the class. Gives a giant curve otherwise most of the class would fail.
I took Dr. Hale my first semester at TState and her class was the only class I didn't make an A in for the semester. I only learned one thing from that entire class and it was that: it is illegal to drive w/ windshield wipers on w/out having headlights on... She only talked about her corgis and got off topic a TON. It was all mainly lecture based.
If you like extra credit and optional retests for EVERY test (yes that's right) then look no further. In all honesty, there's a lot of note taking and lectures but her only grades include 2 tests which can be retaken, one paper, a lot of extra credit opportunities and one final (which isn't cumulative). Study (a lot) and it should be an easy A.
If you're not willing to put forth work and study. . .drop out. Now for those of you that are willing to put forth effort she is a great professor and person. Though she does get off topic sometimes her lectures are not designed to help you completely with the test notes are the skeleton and the text books is all the important details. I recommend!
Hale yes we love law! I love this professor, she's funny, and very interesting, and awesome. But, she gets off topic in class, and you have to read the textbook before lecture. The only grades in this class are the 3 exams, and all of them were very very difficult. This was my hardest class. Go to office hours and build a relationship with her.
We had only 3 exams and had the option to retake the first two on the last day. She did give extra credit opportunities and they would bump up your grade big time.
Although she is an amazing person in general, her class is a bore and not helpful for tests. You are graded based on 3 tests and one major project, but when you take your final, you can retake your other 2 tests for a higher grade. Her lectures are never over things that will be on the test, so reading the book is necessary.
Professor Hale is a cool woman, but she is not a good professor. She takes her notes under a projector with paper and markers and draws diagrams over things that should be protected through a power point. I learned more from the book then her class. She has only three extra credits, a paper, and three exams with an additional final.
She knows what she is talking about, but doesn't relay it to the class well at all. Prof. Hale writes all her notes in marker on paper by drawing diagrams and abbreviating every word. Once you look back at her notes you won't be able to understand it. One student in my class asked about something from the text book and she said it was false.
Professor Hale is a very intelligent women and I like her a lot, but in her lectures she writes notes on a peice of paper and everything is abbreviated so when you look back at your notes you have no idea what they mean. I feel like you learn much more from the book just because the way she conveys information is confusing and hard to absorb.
This is the most unorganized class Ive ever taken. During lecture, she spends half the time talking about her personal life rather than actually teaching. When she does teach, shes confusing and only gives us the bare minimum. Reading the book is the only way I could come close to passing. Theres extra credit, but the only grades are 3 tests.
She was super fun and kept class exciting. She is passionate about what shes teaching, and that alone engages interest. I had a D, but during the final I was able to retake all of the past exams and i ended with a B. (It was hard though, lots of reading my textbook). I took her 2 years ago and shes still my favorite professor at txst.
Horrible lecturer, goes off topic, ask a question and she does not directly answer. There are only three tests which according to the class groupme EVERYONE is failing. Major individual assignment with zero guidelines. Very stressful lady. Would love to have coffee with her, but would never want to "learn" under her ever again.
Do not take this professor whatever you do. She is absolutely terrible and the worst professor I have had at Texas State University. She is a good person but her class and structure is outrageous. On tests she says "study what you think is important". Shes vague and basically attempting to fail our whole class. You have been warned.
Like everyone else has said about this professor is true. Do not take this class, it is poorly organized and structured. There are only 3 grades and they are all exams. Do yourself a favor and do not waste your time with her. While she is knowledgeable about law, her teaching practices are very poor.
Professor Hale is as everyone says, a genuinely good person. You get 3 tests, which includes the final, and you have the option to retake Test 1 and Test 2 during the final. However, her way of taking notes is using markers on a notepad and abbreviating everything. So, read the book and try rewrite your notes because it will get confusing.
On god take her if you wanna fail the class straight up.
just dont.
I love Professor Hale. She is a sweet lady with a good heart. With that being said, only take her class if you can afford for your GPA to drop, because that is exactly what is going to happen. Consider yourself warned.
This was an awful class, you get 3 grades all semester and they are all 3 exams, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR
She writes her notes on a notepad and abbreviates every word the notes end up looking like a big mess and are no help for exams. She gets off topic every 5 minutes and is all over the place the whole class and our grades reflected this. 4 people passed our last exam do not take this proffesor
Do not take her. I have all As and this is the only class that Im struggling with. No way youre gonna pass a test
Terrible teacher, doubles as a lawyer so shes never focused or prepared for class. Very few tests that are over situational questions that she only practices the day before. Everyone fails test so class is based on extra credit and rounding. Constantly changes syllabus, she had 3 different due dates for one assignment. Only here for the title
Professor hale is as most say, a good knowledgeable person when it comes to law however her lectures are extremely unorganized and the material taught in class does not correlate with what is on the test. Out of a class of 120 people only 20 people at most pass her exams with a B, save yourself the bullet and do not take her class
Echoing on the previous comments, she's clearly knowledgable about law. However, her lectures are all over the place and fail to even cover the bare minimum of what you need to know on the exams. She writes her own tests and none of the questions are in anyway similar to what is posted on Cengage or the practice questions she posts prior. Avoid!
I will more than likely have to retake this class. Her notes were just scribbles on a piece of notebook paper. She would always, ALWAYS get off subject. She's an active lawyer and the feeling I got from her was that this was just a hobby to her and didn't take it seriously enough. She was a sweet lady but a terrible professor.
Dr. Hale is probably the most unorganized professor I have met in my college career. From misdirected rants that she considered beneficial lectures to constantly changing the syllabus. She gives assignments that have no clear guidelines and then scrutinizes them somewhat harshly. No idea what my grade is either. Take from this what you want.
Don't take this class with her, if you have the option to take it with a different professor please do. She does not post grades quickly, doesn't update the extra credit assignments. Talks about her personal life all the time!!! Everyone was lost and worried all the time. Spare yourself the anxiety and stress!!!!!
Hale is Kind, caring, funny and really nice! However, teaching is not for her! I went to class and never had a clue on what was going on. She takes notes using a legal pad and using like a circle graphs. It was so confusing and she also hops off subject a lot. The entire class failed literally but she gave us a curve so we all went from a F to a C
Prof Hale is such a sweet and knowledgable woman but a terrible teacher. The material is already hard enough to understand, but don't expect to learn anything in class. Students who did the best used the textbook religiously. Additionally, she managed to loose my final exam scantron. If you can, take with another prof and save your GPA
Ended up with her due to a university last minute switch - she writes her notes on a legal pad & spends most time talking about herself. Exams felt impossible even with a cheat sheet. The only things that saved me were my chosen professors notes still available & the switch to online classes. She does let you retake exams during final.
There's 3 exams and those are your only grades. No notes, no powerpoints. Lecture heavy, know more about her life than the content, sweet woman though. Understood the content from lectures but wouldn't know a thing on the exam. Don't take her, you'll be a stressed out mess
I have had hard classes before, but this was unlike any of them. No pwrpoints , no guideline, she just talked in class and would draw on a piece of paper. Learned more about her than law. Following covid, zoom lectures were no help. Sweet lady but not a very good professor. I am an A/B student and this is the only class Ive failed.
She is a very nice lady and her stories are very interested but she does to teach you to prepare for the exams. Her exams are hard and very detailed than she teaches it. I would take someone else looking back. No textbook, no mandatory attendance, no homework. Only 2 test and the final and an out of class assignment. She is slow on grades.
Prof. Hale tries to use a lot of personal anecdotes as examples of different aspects of law. Unfortunately, they're not organized and the whole class is lost - even the GroupMe. We're not even past the first exam and we're struggling. If you take this course, the textbook, the PowerPoint, and Quizlet are your only friends.
Professor Janet Hale is by far the least helpful professor I have had at Texas State. The only grades are three tests. There are no test reviews, her notes are chicken scratch, and she barely teaches. She gets defensive when you ask a simple question and refuses to answer questions regarding the fact that the majority of her class is failing.
Professor Janet Hale is by far the least helpful professor I have had at Texas State. The only grades are three tests. There are no test reviews, her notes are all over the place, and she barely teaches. She will not answer your questions, reading the book, and quizzlets will not help you. DONOTTAKEHERWHATSOEVER,ASKTHE200FAILINGSTUDENTSINMYCLASS!
The pinnacle of bad professors. DO NOT TAKE.
shes the worst professor i have ever had. there are only three grades which consist of 2 tests and the final. no one in my class has passed a single test. when we ask her why the entire class does badly on the tests, she gets defensive and blames us. shes a nice lady but an awful teacher. also, she only talks about herself during her lectures.
This is by far the worst professor I have ever taken in my academic career. She talks about her personal life waaaaay too much, she told us she was going to curve the grade and didn't. 95% of the class failed bc of her, not because of the class. If I only needed BLAW to graduate and the only class left was with her I would wait an entire semester.
There were only 3 tests, no other grades and all the tests consisted of stuff she didn't really cover. Good grades were 70's on the tests, no one got above a 79, please don't ever take this professor. Her lectures would also go on multiple tangents about random stories around half of class time.
Unless you've dedicated your entire life memorizing policies and laws, choose another professor or you will be taking this class. In-class notes are hard to understand, tests are over said lectures, and your only grades are tests.
One of the worst professors I've ever had. Her lectures are super chaotic, she goes off topic very often. The only grades for the class are 3 tests, which are based of the lectures. 99% of the class is failing currently with an average of 55 on the exams. BEWARE of this Professor!
Professor Hale was very hard to understand in her lectures. Her way of taking notes for the class to follow was extremely confusing, and the fact that you only have 3 exams all semester is pretty intense. Would not recommend.
Dont expect an A, Youve been warned. Save yourself the time and frustration and just take another Professor. You only get 3 grades all semester long and theyre unfortunately 3 self written tests by Hale. The extra credit times offered were not at all accommodating of students who had to miss due to class, work or any other legitimate reason :D
Our grade was based on 3 exams throughout the semester and that was it. I did not enjoy her lecture style of unorganized notes on a projector and telling stories from her personal life for an hour and twenty minutes. Not to say that she doesn't have interesting stories, but they are distracting from the material. Exams are very difficult.
She doesnt teach at all she just talks about her life the entire class and her tests have nothing to do with lecture. Half my class failed and the highest grades were Cs DO NOT TAKE
Wonderful human being, very caring, kind and considerate; but when it comes to teaching she should not be allowed in a classroom. The entirety of the semester consisted of her telling personal stories that vaguely pertain to the topics we were discussing. If you choose to take this class just know you are completely on your own. 3 Tests + 1 Final
Dr. Hale is a sweet person. However, when it comes to teaching business law and material needed for tests she is awful. Her lectures are borderline useless, she draws on papers for notes and abbreviates definitions that we don't know. Half of the class is her telling long stories that are barely relevant to what we a learning in class.
Shes a great person but her lectures are boring and often useless as she mostly just shares random stories about her life and kids. Theres only 3 exams and a couple extra credit opportunities so be ready to study. I dont really recommend her if youre trying to pass this class easily
this lady just goes on tangents the whole class and wonders why everyone fails the tests.
This professor is awful like everyone here says. Don't get me wrong, she is a really cool lady. However, she doesn't have a clue how to teach. There are 3 tests and that's it. Do not get this professor.
Avoid at all cost! You take three test for the entire semester and those are your only grades. Her lectures have very little to do with the test questions and are extremely difficult. You are pretty much on your own with this professor. Turn back now before it is to late.
Professor Hale was so kind and helpful, and she gave so much extra credit opportunities. The homework was optional (it was extra credit). She might seem like she goes off on a unrelated tangents but I promise it relates to her topic. Even if you don't need Business Law it is a super interesting class to take especially with Dr. Hale.
The class had barley any assignments and tests were hard. The notes she gives suck.
PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HER! you will have only 3 tests to pass this class, she will talk about her life the entire class and you will learn nothing and the test will be ten times harder
Dr.Hale is a sweet loving lady yet that doesn't justify her bad teaching abilities and lessons. There is no study guide and no review for the exam. the grade is based on 3 exams and the exams are EXTREMELY difficult. I would recommend avoiding her as a professor but if she is your last Resort I recommend for you to DO EXTRA CREDIT.
Don't take this prof if you can, she only gave 3 tests and each test had 33 questions and was worth 33 points of your final grade. She only gave a max of 5 extra credit points AND she doesn't round your grade at all. I had a 69.5 in the class after the 3 really hard tests and 4.5 of the extra credit points and she still gave me a D in the class.
Worst teacher. Dr. Hale is a really sharp woman who knows the law but has no knowledge of how to teach it to others. I would avoid her at all costs. You are graded on 3 tests all with 33 questions worth 33 points each. Ultra lazy. And nothing on the tests are in her lectures or even in the book listen to the bad reviews don't ruin your GPA like me.
oh my GAWDDD, such a bad professor. Honestly, use the class time as nap time because that's really all its worth. She rambles off topic all class and is in general a bad teacher, such a sweet lady bless her soul, but you are better off just reading the textbook and utilizing the practice questions in it. Her lectures are laughable.
Since my previous rating on here got deleted, all you need to know is DO NOT TAKE THIS INSTRUCTOR. She lives up to every bad review on here and in some ways worse. You have been warned.
DO NOT TAKE DR. HALE. she does not teach at all. her notes are a jumbled mess and there is no explaining by her. Very nice but very hard. Only grades are 3 tests and it is very hard to make above a 50 on them. she did provide some extra credit but it involved going places off campus and writing papers over what you learned. good luck...
To summarize,DONT TAKE THIS TEACHER, if you are like me and it was the last available option, you are better off waiting a semester.Took 2 Weeks to get grades back, constantly sidetracked talking about other matters rather than whats supposed to be taught. The class is unstructured, from Hale's notes to the lack of being able to see your own grades
Doesn't give extra grades other than exams, does not teach material, terrible lectures.
Gives out no assignments other than exams which she doesn't prepare you for.
Dr. Hale is a kind professor, but her teaching style and exams make this class a real challenge. Staying engaged, using the textbook, and trying Unstuck ai for study prep can help, but this is a tough one overall.
Honesty, please please please stay far away from this professor. She does not teach, her lectures are primarily her talking about her personal life and family, there are four tests that dive deep into business law without her teaching it or preparing you. You will NOT learn anything, I promise. She's a kind person, but should not be a professor.
