She's an okay teacher for her first year here. Here tests are kind of difficult and confusing but if you study it should be fine.
she's terrible. all we do is take notes over and over and over. she writes on the board & we copy it. she is really thorough ab**** that i've had since 4th grade but when its new material she goes over it fast. she takes FOREVER to correct things & always changes the dates for stuff. i know its her first year but c'mon. and tests are impossible!
New teacher so does not explain things clearly or in the easiest way.
tries hard to be a good teacher but is still new and gets nervous. her tests aren't normally overly hard but studying is still nessary for most people.
The class in general is not too bad, but the tests are challenging. She is very helpful with homework problems. As long as you do the homework, you should not get worse than a B.
Worst teacher ever!!! chemistry is my major, it used to be my favorite class. All she does is talk to the dry erase board, never talks to the class. She is nice, and has no teaching skills at all. She spends 5 min erasing the board trying to reorganize her thoughts because she confuses the class and herself! Do not take her!!!
She is new and you can tell but she has gotten better of the semester. She is more than willing to help you with any questions. There are a total of five tests, a final, and about 50pts. of homework. Follows very closely with the book.
very difficult and boring class she tries but is not a very good teacher avoid if possible
You can definitely tell that she is a new prof...she teaches talking to the dry erase board which is kind of odd, provides reviews before exams which is nice, also EXTREMELY helpful with problem sets, if you go ask a question on she pretty much shows you exactly what to do Overall I liked her
A nice lady and more than willing to help but can be confusing at times. Do practice problems and study hard for the tests and you'll do fine. Don't get discouraged if you do bad on one test because they are not consistent some are harder than others.
She is an idiot, she does not know her stuff, she confuses herself and the class constantly, all she writes everything on the board so you dont know what is/isnt important, her tests are impossible, she doesnt put the stuff she talks about in class on to the tests. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!! You will be dissipointed if you do.
Dr. Kirsch is a very nice lady, she is very helpful and wants each student to succeed. I'm glad she's my teacher. She makes sure that if she explains something to you that you understand it. She has helped me alot and she's approachable. Take her!
Two words to describe Kirsh: confused and clueless. I actually feel like I know LESS matertial after her lectures. It's sad when your textbook is more clear than your teacher.
Her tests aren't too bad but if you have to take more Chem take someone else because you won't learn anything from Kirsch. Lectures are so bad she confuses herself. I'm sure she's smart but she really should have picked a different career.
typical: smart person, horrible at teaching. tests are frustrating, lectures are boring
I didn't have a problem with Dr. Kirsch. She was helpful when I went to her. Her notes are a little scattered which is sometimes hard to follow. Chem is hard for me, so any professor I take I think it would be hard!! Doing the suggested problems helped tremendously though!
I found her to be a very clear professor in general. She does lots of examples in class so you don't have too much trouble. She also gives optional problems out of the book so that you know what to study which helps a lot. I found whenever I needed help she was more than willing, as a side note she does NOT make you feel stupid like some Professors
I can't believe I actually paid for this. Whatever.
i loved her- very helpful
I severly disliked Dr. Kirsh. She was unexperienced, horribly shy, but still very difficult. She was horrible at lecturing and very awkward in front of her class. I will never take a class with her again because she was a bad instructor and she knew it (that's what she told the class), yet she was never lenient when grading.
She is very inexperienced and the only thing you do all hour is constantly take notes. She talks to the board and doesn't hardly turn around because she is so busy writing. I dropped this class and took it again and got an A with another teacher. Do not waste your time with her when there are much better teachers out there.
The only reason I didn't have to drop out of chemistry!
When you ask her questions sometimes she will answer them & other times we will go off about what she watched on TV. Her test can be absolutely rediculous. I studied and studied and the highest I got was a 75% - thats rediculous! I would suggest taking it with another teacher. Nice but very inexperienced and does not know how to teach the material.
Very nice.Willing to help students. But clearly does not know how to teach. All that is done during lecture is notes, which are difficult to understand because she lectures to the board. Constantly messed up with notes which made it confusing. Test scores showed that nobody knew what was going on. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
AVOID HER!!! I recommend that if you get her, you are better reading and taking notes out of the book than actually attending her class. I had to take notes out of the book and go to class for her notes just to understand the material. Even then, her notes confused me even more because she made so many MISTAKES. Get a different professor.
I BEG you to get a different professor. If you want to do better, get anyone but her. If you have to take CHM 103 and there are no openings in the other classes, take it the next semester with a different professor.
Avoid her if you can, she is very nice but doesn't know how to teach the material. She talks towards the board and the notes are hard to follow because she messes them up alot. If you can take a different techer, do so.
Horrible professor. She didn't teach the material clearly and there was always a gap between what was taught and emphasized in lecture and then what was actually on the tests. I have to retake this class because I was unable to attain a high enough grade to move on due to her inability to teach material.
Please avoid taking this professor. She can be nice but also very rude. She would explain things wrong in lecture and thought that it was funny and then we had points taken off of our tests because she taught the material wrong. She encouraged us to talk to her if we had questions... but it was a waste of time because she couldn't answer them.
I'm better off attending the local highschool CHM class.
Shes pretty easy going and easy to approach with questions.
She did an awesome job of simplifying course material as much as possible. She taught you the material and you knew the kind of stuff that would be on the test. She was also really available for any questions you had and very freindly. Super nice! and she simplified the material as much as she could.
I loved her! If you put in all the extra effort she will help you. shes not funny at all but go with it. Her tests are okay but you have to study. MAKE SURE you do the practice problems at least one time through it will help a TON!
She is great! I had heard that not many people like her, but I though she was one of the best. Tests were kind of hard, but if you practice the problems and look over notes you'll do fine! I thought she was extremely helpful and wanted the students to succeed.
Hate chemistry but liked Kirsch. I had to retake the class and actually understood it w/ her. Some dry humor but what do you expect. I don't like powerpoints much so I appreaciated the whiteboard writing. Her pace is just right. . take her!
Makes mistakes 90% of the time. Takes weeks to get grades back. Tests are harder than anything learned in lecture.Lots of note takeing cause she doesnt use powerpoint. doesnt take attendence but if you want to pass you should go. examples arnt very helpful. goes fast in lecture no time for questions really. easy in lab, but not lecture.
Dr. Kirsch is very helpful if you go into her office hours, but she doesn't offer very many office hours in a week. Her tests are extremely difficult, but she will help you as much as possible to get you do do well.
Not the most intelligent teacher at UWL...she doesnt explain things very well. Comes off nice at first but towards the end of the semester gets bad.
She's really nice and very helpful. You take a lot of notes in lecture but they are very helpful. The only downside to this class is the impossible tests. As a lab teacher she is very good, but again, the quizzes are hard just like her tests.
Very hard professor. She usually gets the answers wrong to the problems she does on the board. Her tests are harder than any other chem professors. She is very nice but I definitly strongly advice against taking her as a chem teacher, unless your a genius or have a major interest in studying 24/7.
To cut to the point, Kirsch is one of the worst teachers I have had. Several times I went to her office hours and was turned away because she was "too busy." She routinely makes mistakes during lecture, and laughs, saying she hasn't had her coffee yet. It would be funny... if it didn't happen several times a week! Tip: Take ANY other professor.
Writes notes out during lecture, so everything is explained well and you have time to write what you need. Is a nice lady and helpful during discussion. Exams are difficult. Not much homework.
Kirsch is one of the most approachable professors I've had at UWL. She is available and wants to answer student's questions. She writes her notes on the board, so it is easy to follow along and gives tons of examples. Her tests are ridiculous though, and unlike other chem professors you can't use a notecard.
is very helpful for questions, you have to utilize office hours, i strongly believe her tests are very hard and have unclear q's, she is a very nice person but many times i feel there is a gap between what is taught and what shows up on the exams
Very good teacher. Approachable. You don't have to read the chapters in the book at all, all exam questions come from lecture. She gives lots of practice problems, DO THEM, they will help you alot on exams. She does make a few mistakes in class but she's human too. I would suggest her to anyone.
Dr. Kirsch is a wonderful teacher. She always had time to help me during her office hours and will schedule around your schedule if you need it. Dry humor, makes simple math mistakes often, and hard tests. It's the multiple choice that kills you on her exams. TAKE HER IF YOU WANT TO LEARN!
She is a really good teacher and I am so glad i took her. I hated CHM in high school, but now it is my favorite class. She is a tough grader and does not give parcial credit when it is not deserved. She will make sure you know your stuff and she is always willing to help you after class or whenever. I would deffinatly recomend her.
I took AP Chem in high school and feel this class was a good review of maybe what we did in the first month of that class. Multiple choice kills you on exams but final replaces lowest score. Always there to help, responds to emails quickly & knew me by name which doesn't happen in a big lecture often. Will help with lab even if not your teacher.
She has some tough tests and homework, but if you go to lectures you will be fine. She's good at making things understandable. I didn't htink discussion was necessary if you understand things. She just goes over examples. Not a terrible professor.
Great professor. I learned so much from her. She is very aproachable and always willing to help at any time. She writes out all the notes on the board which helps an insane amount. I am contemplating majoring in chemistry because of her.
Chem is a difficult subject to begin with, in my opinion, but Dr. Kirsch did a great job explaining the material. She was EXTREMELY helpful outside of class answering questions and giving extra help. Would definitely recommend.
This is a really tough class, but Dr. Kirsch has clear lectures and is very helpful overall.
When I first started the class i thought it would be really easy, because chem often is for me. After my first assignment and exam i realized that it wasn't. I studied really hard and ended up with an AB. But i had to earn it. She is a very nice teacher though and willing to help you out. Take her lab too if you can. It helps a lot in discussion
Good teacher. She's very helpful if you have questions on the material. Definitely attend her discussions because they help a lot with exams. Her exams are tough, so definitely study but she's worth taking.
Great professor. Explains everything really well. Posts answer keys, lecture notes and other helpful information on D2L. She also writes everything on the board and is very willing to help people outside class. The class will be very hard if you dont do the work, not an easy A but she is a very fair grader, lots of partial credit
Kirsch is a very hard teacher. I worked harder for this class than any other and still recieved a B. She is a nice lady and is helpful if you visit her office. Her lectures are very good as well. Tests are very hard. Even though she's nice, i wouldn't recommend her. There are easier teachers out there that still get the information through to you
She reminded me of a HS teacher. writes all notes on board and occasionally posted them on D2L. She is extremely helpful and i would take her if you aren't too great at chem
Dr. Kirsch is very nice and understanding. If you forget to take a D2L quiz she always opens it back up for you. She writes all of her notes on the board, so it forces you to copy the notes down and pay attention to the class, which is very helpful. Take Kirsch when you can. She is a hard grader and you need to put all the effort in you can.
She is a great teacher...always willing to help. Her tests really aren't bad at all, if you study. In class worksheets and discussion worksheets help a lot. All notes are on the board, but you get used to it fast. I would recommend her!
Good prof but exams were insanly difficult for the amount of time your given. Examples in class were good and helpful but the lecture was somewhat boring. I found myself skipping alot.
She's good when it comes to lecturing.Yet it takes her weeks to grade anything and hand it back or update grades. She's very friendly and easy to talk to.Her tests aren't that bad, she just doesn't give you enough time to complete them and do well usually.
Dr. Kirsch is a very good lecturer and she has good dry humor, but her tests are very difficult for the time allotted. I'm not the fastest test-taker and my high school didn't offer AP Chem, but I know people who did take AP Chem and they agreed that her tests were too packed with problems. She tended word questions oddly on her tests, as well.
She is a very nice lady, and very helpful. her tests were harder than they should be. the practice problems are very helpful. make sure you get to know her, she is a very personable professor!
4 tests, 1 final exam. She's REALLY nice and is very helpful, especially if you take the time to go to her office hours. The tests were difficult and had a ton of problems, but the final exam was definitely reasonable though. I didn't study all that much and it was my second highest test grade of the semester. I definitely recommend taking her.
She is one of the best prof I have had. Lays everything out for you on the board and doesn't try to trick you on her exams. Lots of work, but really does a good job of explaining what she expects from you.
She is the nicest person you will ever meet and very helpful if you go in and talk to her. She lectures well but her exams are WAY TOO HARD, and she takes forever to get them back. I spent sooooo much time studying for this class and I still only got a B/C. She expects too much for a general chem class and on exams words things too confusing.
Dr. Kirsch is a great teacher. Her exams are quite challenging, but if you study enough (a lot!) they aren't too bad. I worked hard and received a C in the class overall which isn't great, but Chem isn't my strongest subject. I recommend her if you just need chem 103&104
Dr. Kirsch is a great lab instructor. She is very straight-forward and explains how the lab is going to work very clearly. She is very helpful and super friendly! Definitely recommend.
She is a nice lady, and an ok professor. The main problem is that she only explains things one way, so without previous kowledge, it would be harder to understand her class. She also is inconsiderate of timeliness in getting grades back. For example, it is the day before the final and she hasn't finished grading our last tests to study from yet!
She explains the material well, but her online D2L quizzes can be extremely difficult. Overall lab was a good experience!
Dr. Kirsch is awesome. Grade-wise she is very equitable and unbiased - You get what you put in. Beyond that she truly cares about her students and their success. I would highly recommend her for anyone looking for quality knowledge.
I took Dr. Kirsch in the summer, so my experience may have been a little different from those who took her during the regular semester. Since it was half the time of a normal semester, we got to use note cards on exams, which were fairly straight forward. She is a nice lady with a good sense of humor and is always willing to help. Highly recommend!
I highly recommend taking Dr. Kirsch for CHM 103. She truly cares about her students and her exams are not that hard if you go to class every day and do the practice problems at the end of each chapter of the book that she assigns in the syllabus. She curved every exam by adding anywhere from 2-5 points onto your final grade.
Very good professor, shes organized and easy to follow and gives many helpful sheets that also explain the lesson
She was one of my favorite professors all through out my college career. Yes, her tests are hard, but if you keep with the homework and practice problems you'll be set. She is always available to help you and she is one the most considerate professors I've had. She is very easy with lab as well!
I would definitely take Dr. Kirsch again. She is very organized and her lectures and discussions are well planned and easy to follow. Keep up with the online homework and extra practice book problems and you will do just fine. Her tests are long but the content is not that difficult. If you work efficeintly you should have more than enough time.
Dr. Kirsch is an excellent chemistry professor. She was very clear with content and willing to help if you needed it. Her tests are long and pretty difficult, but fair. My only complaint is she was extremely inconsiderate in getting tests back to her students in a timely manner- usually 2.5-3 weeks to grade one test.
She is a good professor. She teaches so you understand the concepts. My only complaint is that it takes her forever to grade exams. For example, my last test was not graded before we too the final exam so I went into the final not knowing what my grade was in the class so far.
Kirsch knows her stuff as a chemical engineer. she addressed how difficult the course would be and tried her best to make it approachable. her tests are doable if you study but she takes a long time to get your exams back. her dry sarcasm makes the class worth going to.
I would recommend taking Dr. Kirsch for Chem103. She was always very clear about what would be on the tests and gave helpful homework assignments that had questions that were similar to the ones on the tests. She had very well organized lectures, and made them entertaining. The discussion was also helpful in clearing up concepts.
Dr. Kirsch was a very good teacher. She gives out way less homework for her classes compared to the other profs. You have one week to do the homework assignments whether it is in lab or for lecture. She is definitely the top teacher in CHM103 classes. Her tests are relatively hard though. I would take her again.
TAKE HER. Dr. Kirsch is one of the best professors I have ever taken. If you struggled with Chem in high school, she will help you understand it better and she is always willing to help. Her style of note taking is really beneficial, however you must attend class. If you can take her, do it. I actually enjoyed this class because of her.
Dr. Kirsch is a really and funny nice teacher. The class and the content is not very difficult and Dr. Kirsch does a very good job of explaining it. As long as you show up to lecture and pay attention you should do fine. It is a chem course so you will obviously need to study but there aren't any surprises in her class.
Dr. Kirsch is an awesome professor! She is very approachable and wants all her students to succeed. She writes the notes on the board which is nice because she isn't speeding through the material. She hands out homework every week that help prepare for exams. Exams where harder than expecting and she takes a while to grade them. Would take again!
She is my favorite professor by far! I took AP Chem last year so it is a little bit of a review for me. But she taught me things that i never understood last year in one lecture. She always is willing to help you with your questions, and cares a lot about how you do. Definitely recommend going to the lectures and discussions though.
She is probably one of the nicest professors on campus by far. I love how she is so open to answering all of my questions outside of class no matter how many. CHM 103 is not going to be an easy class, and you will have to read the book but this professor makes Chemistry just a little more tolerable than others.
Dr. Kirsch genuinely cares about the success of each student. She is more than willing to help you and work through problems with you. The only thing that I have to complain about is how long she takes to grade things. Chem 103 was not a choice class for me, but she definitely made it better than most would have.
Dr. Kirsch was a great professor!! I had taken AP Chem prior which really helped, but either way she is a great teacher who goes over the content well and gives clear lectures. She is also very helpful in lab. I didn't use the book, but its also a very helpful resource. She is more than happy to help you out if you ask.
Dr. Kirsch is super engaging during lecture and explains everything in such a relatable and in-depth way! I was dreading Chem because I hated it in high school but she made it super easy! If you go to her office hours, she's so helpful and will walk you through any problem! She also tries hard to get to know her students, so that's a bonus!
Professor Kirsch is a super sweet lady. She cares a lot for her students and is always happy to go the extra mile for them. However, I've taken Chem before and I just don't think she does the best job explaining some concepts. Very sweet, but not the best at teaching
Loved Dr. Kirsch for CHM 103. I had her for both lecture and lab. She prepares you for exams which are not that difficult, but writes notes on board so you have to go to class. Very willing to help and really cares about her students. Gives weekly 10 point homework assignments to help boost your grade. Great choice for CHM103.
Janet is a nice person outside of class, but as a professor she is awful. Very disorganized and gives almost zero practice. I have taken chemistry before with a really awesome professor and got an A and three weeks into her course I already had a C. She makes easy concepts hard to understand.
Attendance is mandatory and part of grade. Assignments are super easy and graded on pass/fail system. Final presentation at end of class was more annoying than hard. Need to do volunteer activity and go to 2 seminars throughout the semester. Little work needed, just show up to class.
Very good teacher but exams are much more difficult than the review usually, questions become really wordy and she also grades pretty difficult. Overall is very good at explaining and works through everything on the board for lectures.
LOTS of points taken off for the smallest things! 4 exams and a final, so start studying on the first day of class. She writes all of her notes on the board, so skipping class is going to make you fall behind. She is a nice person, but doesn't always explain things for learning people to understand.
Dr. Kirsch is such a sweet lady! She really cares about her students. However, make sure you study beyond her lecture notes. She is very picky on grading, and her multiple choice often contain "more than one of these" or "all of the above" right answers which can make it tough being they are 3 points a piece.
Dr Kirsch truly wants each of her students to succeed. Her tests are definitely tricky but my secret is to read the textbook. She can make some things difficult to understand, but if you read the book you'll be fine. Her multiple choice questions are not common knowledge so make sure you UNDERSTAND test material, not just memorize her notes. <3
Janet Kirsch is a kind lady who puts a lot of effort into helping her students and will answer your questions with patience and in a way you understand. At times she is a bit boring, but she conveys the material well and is very organized.
Janet Kirsch cares about students success. She offered test corrections for some tests that didnt go so well for the class. She was able to answer questions we had and gave clear instructions.
Very understanding and is willing to help in any way possible. She adapted her teaching/helping style to best help her students transition to online lecture and lab.
Course material and exams are hard but she is very helpful. She gives you examples and handouts in the notes as well as going through examples with you during discussions. As far as exams go, she always posts reviews on canvas for you to go through.
Dr. Kirsch is a very caring professor and is very knowledgeable when she teaches. Lectures include lots of helpful handouts and fill in examples. Exams are pretty difficult and I often felt rushed taking them under the time limit she had set up.
Prof. Kirsch is super nice. She goes through the material slowly and thoroughly to make sure you understand everything, no surprises on tests, and definitely does her best to make class funny and enjoyable, highly recommend
Chemistry is a hard class for many students, Janet understood that. She has multiple office hours throughout the week and is always willing to stay after class to help you out. Was probably one of the most caring professors I have ever had, and she really does want to see you succeed. I would recommend her.
Janet is an awesome professor. She really cares about her students and wants them to succeed. She will help with problems to help with the strategy, but not the exact numbers. She does take a while to grade but is always available to answer questions if you email her.
Lab was really easy and she always gave extension when needed and would allow opportunities to get points back
The professor was fairly decent! I did have to spend a lot of time outside class reviewing lectures, but she is always willing to help and usually responds to emails pretty quickly! The class is very test heavy and lecture based, but lab with her really saved my grade! She is willing to help and super sweet person!
Dr. Kirsch was an easy class. She projects her lectures and writes as she lectures. Exams are semi-difficult but if you study and do practice problems you should be fine. She also posts her lectures online, so you don't have to attend class every day.
I've heard she was great for in-person classes. However, I took CHM 103 online with her and it wasn't good. She wasn't very organized and the tests were extra hard because they were online. She was hard to follow in lecture sometimes, but attendance to online lecture wasn't mandatory.
Overall pretty good professor. I didnt really like her style of lecture, she was a little confusing with how she went through notes and everything. Exams are TOUGH. Way too much content for the amount of time we are given to complete them. Other than that she is a very nice lady and is willing to give extra help if you need it
Dr. Kirsch's lecture style is not my favorite, but it definitely works for getting information across. As long as you do the work and study, the class should not be too difficult to get a B or higher in. She's also super nice and good at explaining if you ask her.
Her lecture style is pretty bad, she jumps around everywhere and leaves everyone confused. The exams are very hard but if you study a bunch you should be fine. She is very good about recording her lectures and posting them right away.
Dr Kirsch is a good professor. There is ~10 homework assignments and 5 tests. She handwrites all of her notes and projects them, and records the lectures which is nice. Helpful on the homework and is accessible. The tests can be tricky with multiple choice questions worth 3 points a piece, but she does give a lot of partial credit on short answer.
If you just go to class and actually pay attention you will easily get above a C. The exams really aren't that difficult and she doesn't grade tough at all. She's super nice and understanding if you talk to her outside of class.
Dr. Kirsch was a good professor. I liked that she took notes along with you and projected them onto the screen. However, because she is left-handed, she would cover up the notes and move on too fast for you to write down what she had. It was sometimes hard to keep up because of that. Otherwise, she was very time and available to her students!
She is not a good professor at all. I thought I was the only one struggling until in lab (with a different professor) half the class started talking about having to withdraw. Every single test she has to give 10-15 point curves because everyone fails them. I don't know how she still has a job.
I took AP Chemistry in high school so I understood most of the material. However, Kirsch's teaching style can be unsuccessful for those learning the content for the first time. Because she is left-handed, she covers up everything she writes and it makes it difficult to pay attention to what she's actually saying. Nice person, not great professor.
she is a nice professor but I dislike her teaching. She jumps all over during lecture and she does not prepare her students well for her exams. She is a super hard grader, and definitely does not give enough time to finish the exams. She also never slows down, she never reviews for exams. Nice person but hard to pass if she cant teach well.
even though she was left handed, there was never a moment where i was struggling to keep up with what she was writing. she made the notes very explicit and made it easy to know what was on the exams. such a caring person and was so sweet and willing to help if you need.
Her lectures are easy with good examples. The only grades are the 4 exams and the final with no extra credit/redemption points. The exams were incredibly long essentially setting you up for failure. Almost impossible to finish. Multiple choice all worth three points each, meaning if you miss three you are basically down a whole letter grade.
It takes a bit to get used to Professor Kirsch's lecture style. If you go to her office hours and talk to her when you are confused she is helpful. Her exams are definitely harder but she curves them by 10 points which helps boost your grade. Overall I really liked her and would take her again.
She was a very kind and understanding teacher and her office hours help. I found the exams to be quite difficult and long, these are what drastically brought my grade down. You also don't get a personal made note sheet like I have heard other chem professors give. She does give you a periodic table and some equation sheets.
It does take some time getting used to the way she lectures because she writes them through a projector and uses her left hand so you have to wait for her to be done writing the sentence before you can write your own notes down.
She is a professor who is very traditional but lays out everything you need and is very clear as to what will be on the tests. You have more than enough materials available for study tools and most tests are curved by 10 points which is a nice boost. If you put in effort and pay attention you will be fine!
She's a very nice lady, but when it came to me in specific I struggled with chemistry, not her fault. Spent many all nighters studying for her exams. In the end I had a final grade of 69.68% which I need a 70 to pass. She wouldn't let it slide so now I'll be taking chem lab, lecture, and discussion all over again.
Kirsch is left handed and writes the notes for you so you spend half the time waiting for her to move her hand off of the screen, lectures and discussions are easy but the exams make you want to never be a woman in stem. Great person, but horrible at preparing you for exams.
great homework and discussion questions that are pretty much just exam questions. Really nice person who helps with every question you have. She always gave me the answers when I had problems with lab questions.
hand writes all the lecture notes, and she's left handed so you can't see what she's writing until she's done. often she only gets through 2-3 topics per lecture, so you have to teach yourself the rest. exams are difficult and often times the questions have nothing to do with what was learned in class. if you're bad at chem, avoid her.
Writes Left-handed so you're always scrambling to get your notes down and she writes fast. The only review material she provides is the discussion packets. If you want to pass this class, go to SI and write fast.
Dr. Kirsch is a very kind and understanding professor. You get used to her being left-handed after awhile, but it can be difficult/annoying at times. She responds to emails within less than a day and has good office hours. No exam review which sucks, but lab quizzes are easy and 5 points each week. TAKE HER FOR LAB!!! she is so helpful.
I absolutely loved her, truly a great person and I love her teaching style. She is great during office hours and will help you if needed. The class is hard but it is chemistry so… if you do the text book questions and study you will be fine.
Professor Kirsch's CHEM103 class can be challenging, but engaging with her teaching style pays off. The lectures are thorough, and study tools like unstuck AI alongside the provided materials can really help with exam prep.
Had her for lab and lecture and honestly thought she was one of the best professors I have had so far (3 semesters completed for reference). She explained topics thoroughly, provided handouts to follow along with during lectures, and was very helpful when students asked questions. I would absolutely take her as a professor again if I could.
Really enjoyed her class even though chem really isn't my strong suit. She is extremely kind and explains topics very thoroughly. She provides printed handouts for her lectures to follow along with (for all lab/discussion/lecture). Would absolutely take a class with her again if I could
Honestly, I am not sure why her rating is relatively low. Janet Kirsch was very accessible outside of class and always happy to help. Staying engaged in every lecture and redoing the discussion problems on your own will help you see success. Her exams are pretty tough, but very manageable to get a B in this class. TAKE HER.
Dr. Kirsch is very kind and accessible for help through email and office hours, however her exams were really difficult. There are four exams worth 100 points each and one cumulative final also worth 100. I feel like different professors are easier and I was a freshman when I took this course, but overall I learned a lot and Dr. Kirsch is very nice
Sweet professor, however her lectures move very fast. She teaches as if she was playing school. She just talks quickly to herself, and hardly looks up and interacts with the class. Her lectures are very hard to follow. The exams are very hard, but she is receptive to emails.
She was a good teacher but sometimes went fast in lecture
Dr. K was a great teacher compared to my chem 104, she lectures differently but very good notes and explains well, rewatch lecture videos after class and revamp ur notes.. put the time in out of class and you will do good. Learn how to take multiple choice exams and you will do fine. Homework is basically free points.
She is a good professor. Not sure why her ratings are low I really enjoyed her class. It was hard, but she is very nice and I would try to get into her class if you can.
I saw someone say she teaches like she's playing school and that is so accurate. She writes left handed and covers the notes most of the time and I've noticed lots of students have to take pictures when she removes her hand because she give you no time to read it. Her exams are way harder than most professors in this course and get cut off by time
She doesn't give much practice at all, there will be an example or two in lecture and maybe one in discussion, otherwise it will be a bunch of steps that you learn across the entire unit jammed together. Exams are super hard and a lot of times have nothing to do with what gets talked about in class. And she does talk like she's playing school
Overall I didn't think she was too bad. She is left-handed which makes it hard to get all the notes down sometimes, but it wasn't horrible. I just felt like she was reading straight out of the textbook and writing it down rather than actually teaching us the material. As long as you study the class isn't too hard. Pretty average professor.
There wasn't anything too hard about her lab. There are weekly quizzes, and sometimes they were a little hard, but for the most part, they were exactly what we did in lab the week before.
