took during winter session. very easy. learned a lot more about quilting that i wanted to. like her dog.

She is a very logical teacher. Her summer course was basically essay a per week. She grades farly easy and the key is to go over the assignment sheet and make sure you hit everything u were suppose to.

She explains all of her assignments clearly. As long as you put forth your best effort she will go extra to help you with succeeding in her class. She made a hard class, fun, and fulfilling.

She's a genius---I have always HATED poetry and she made it fun and understandable. As long as you try, she works with you. By the end of the semester I truly understood literature.

Absolutley passionate about the subject matter, and really energizing. Does not tolerate plagarism---which may explain the negative student comments! She is a lawyer and a PhD and probably the smartest person I have ever met.

I love this class---if you do the reading, you'll get the A. All test for ALL her classes are open note open book, so if you can't do well it is absolutely YOUR fault!

Dr.Madden is an excellent teacher. She is incredibly smart and intuitive. She showed me ways to interpret literature that I never knew existed. She is demanding and expects good work, which i like. Because of her 1A class i was able to take 1C immediately after and I did really well. She is tough but it makes you a better reader/writer.

She's incredibly informative, and really understanding about personal problems. Gives it her all--a great class that makes me very confident about succeeding in future classes.

she loves greek tragedies for some reasons...her instructions for assignments are unclear. but classes are cancelled if she assigns a paper. she is ok but if you don't like reading at all, i suggest you find another teacher.

Madden is a great teacher, extremely perceptive and very flexible and understanding to students' needs. Her assignments are challenging, but not impossible. I would highly reccomend her to anyone who wants to gain enough from their English classes to take with them to the next level! :)

Very easy class to me. I have hated english classes my whole life and never had an A in an english class until this one. The assignments were challenging, but I grew a lot from them and enjoyed the freedom I was given as a writer. I only read sparknotes and got through the semester fine, but I will admit the little I read the books were beneficial.

Her class is the only English class I have ever enjoyed. She really knows her stuff, and is really nice. Very intelligent, glad to have decided to take her class. I highly recommend her class to everyone.

This is the best English teacher that I have ever had! She really is passionate about teaching and really wants her students to do well. Dr. Madden taught me how to write a paper! After taking her class I was confident and continued to do well in other English classes. She is an outstanding teacher! Take her class!!!

It's a pleasure to go to class! This lady is SMART--she does not use notes and make interpreting literature like watching a great movie. TAKE THIS CLASS!

Definitely she is the best!!! Someone said to me she is very strict and he was right. This lady is very exigent with the students about their essays, but she is always available to help you. She is also very nice. If you do your reading and your essays ON TIME you’ll be fine.

I would recommend her. 1 paper, a midterm and a final. fairly straightforward. not too strict. shes very passionate and knows a lot about her subject. Shes very understanding as well. quite a feminist so be prepared for that!

The best. Fiar, open-minded, insightful, respectful of students. And really smart with a great sense of humor. Trains guide dogs, too. That tells you something about a person.

if you want to learn to write a college level paper...then this is the Dr. for you. She is awesome!Many drop during the semester because not because they can't keep up. but because they don't want to keep up. She will greatly improve your skills.

Made me realize the things that are offered on campus to help students succeed. Great teacher and inspiring when it comes to reading and writing. Easy but need to try. She's real about directions so laziness is a not a good thing. I loved her.

I took Professor Madden for Humanities (telecourse). We had only (2) papers to turn in & mid-term and final. Tests were OPEN book. I am so surprised I got an (A) in her class! I was worried I didn't do well. So happy I took this course. I definately recommend this class and Professor Madden!

You will learn a lot from this professor and the class is easy. She will guide you through all 4 essays and one research paper. She is very easy on her grading. All she wants you to do is listen and do all the work. Professor Madden is very nice, but has very low tolerance for late papers and there is no make-up.

Dr. Madden's class is fairly easy. you have 1 research paper that she gives extra credit on if you go to the writing center. Talks a lot and gets off point a bit but shes a good teacher who wants her students to take an interest in literature.

I am taking the same class--no extra credit, but she CURVES the open book open note exams!!!! Have had prompt responses to all emails. If you want your hand held, don't take a summer distance ed class.....

2. The grade for your midterm exam includes an additional 20 points--the result of the curve. This is the from email she sent to the class--curve for sure.

I'm taking this online in Fall--class starts in Sept and she already has everything posted so we have time to get books and look over the assingments. LOVE IT!

Very easy. Willing to go above and beyond for her students. Listen to what she has to say and apply it to your writing and you will have no problem in her class. Did not take role so I only went when I needed to turn something in or for an in-class essay. Great teacher.

I took her Humanities 1 online class. Very helpful. She responds to your email right away. Her test questions all came from the study guidebook.

Great class! She works hard to inspire her students. Always responds to emails. Sticks to the syllabus so you know exactly what to expect.

Easy assignments, asks a lot structure-wise (when using quotations we couldn't use more than 3 words), but if you know how to write a paper from high school you'll do fine on hers. Turn things in on time and participate in class a few times, as soon as she knows you're interested she'll take a liking to you.

Take her, Take her, Take her. Great teacher, may come strong at first but its only to get rid of slackers. Took Win2010 session. 5 papers total. Book for the course is cheap $27. Class is very interesting.

She's extremely nice as long as you do your work and she sees that you're trying. Instructions are very clear and grading is very fair & lenient. She lets you know what she expects and explains everything clearly. Highly recommended!

Her stories were interesting and more adult versions of what we may have read as kids. She definately recommends any accomodation possible.she tries to help as best she can but make sure you have good organization skills before trying her class or that you aren't trying to go full time your first year. Also don't take a math class with this class.

Professor Madden is a very straight forward, what you see is what you get type professor. She dosent stand for excuses so dont even bother. Expect to write several essays and use lots of sybols =) Overall she is a very helpful and wonderful professor! I highly recommend her!

I highly recommend. The first day of class was kind of intimidating because she was setting her "I accept no-nonsense" tone. She's direct, sarcastic and funny, yet she means well. Her passion for the subject is contagious. She has strict rules, but if followed, you are guaranteed to do well. Oh, pls be on time, esp the first day.

This teacher if very educated! She takes great pride in what she teaches but she can be pretty snappy at times!

Even though she grades rough and comes off snobby, she is a great teacher and you actually learn how to write an essay in her class. She dosen't give meaningless assignments, she talks, assigns you work, and you leave. She treats you more like a college student than a high school, unlike some teachers at elco I have experienced. Great class if you really want to learn something.

I took Eng 1A class Fall 2010. I wasn't sure what to expect. She started the semester by having us organize study groups, which was awesome. There is a lot of work in this class. Dr. Madden is serious, humorous and very engaging.She has an excellent command of the English language and gets high marks for communicating. I would take her again.

She's humorous & is pretty helpful. The only thing I didn't like about her was that she was late every single day. Towards the middle and end of the semester, we were kinda on our own & attending class became optional. Which is awesome if you know how to write a basic essay. Just write good papers and turn them in on time and you'll be fine!

NEVER have I had anyone sit down with me and go through my writing making suggestions, explaining why things were wrong and encouraging me to push myself to do better. What a great teacher. Works way harder than most of the students to get your essay as good as it can be...

Dr Madden is a genius! Her class is NOT easy. She is tough but VERY helpful. She sits with every student and looks over rough drafts PRIOR to them being turned in for grading; you won't find many teachers who will take time to do that. I took Professor Madden for British Lit. (15A) in the Fall and I must say I learned so much. She is a very smart, interesting person her lectures were great. However, she does expect a lot from her students which is good because it forces you to push yourself. Although her grading is not easy she gives you a lot of feedback for improvement.

great professor! she taught us how to write good essays, she criticizes your work but grades easy. I loved Dr. Madden's course! Her teaching style is very straight forward and to the point. Madden will help students after class and also provides extra credit. You can receive extra credit for simply attending writing workshops. Your essay skills should improve in areas such as organization and MLA format/citations. Madden is strict on citations.

i took this class online. we had 3 regular essays and a final essay. weekly posts worth 10 points. the book is a must, you wont pass without it. shes a fair grader and she's there if you need her. i recommend her, i enjoyed taking this as my first online class.

Dr. Madden is by far one of the best professors at ElCO. She assigns 4 essays & 1 research paper, & offers EC. She is so sweet & honestly you improve so much in her class. Obviously, you have to put in effort & do the reading in order to pass her class but she is very clear with the essay prompts. Gives EC 4 attending the writing center. Take her!

Professor Madden is dedicated to students and really wants us to succeed. She treats students like adults, which means slackers beware. This class is a lot of work but I I've learned so much and grown so much as a writer and person.

Easy class if you do the weekly discussions and the two exams on time and she does give plenty of extra credit. Not very active on etudes so just make sure you do the work every week.

Great teacher. Interesting readings and heavy emphasis on analytical thinking. Really cares about students but takes no BS. Don't bother making up lame excuses. Pay attention to what she tells you about quotes! You will learn how to write. Don't even think about plagiarizing. She will find out and she will pursue it.

When I found out that the focus of the class is death, I thought about dropping. I'm glad I didn't. She knows a lot about the subject and the readings are very interesting. This might be one of the more important classes I will ever take.

Tough but good teacher. Her essay assignments can get tough but she is there to guide every step. This isn't a hard class if you put the time in and don't procrastinate. Her grading criteria is very clear and you can easily see where your grade is at any time. Overall she is a good teacher. Did hear she was retiring so she might not be there.

Took her for 1A. Her lectures were awesome and she really involved students in discussions. Syllabus was crystal clear and she explained what she wanted us to learn. She offered in class conferencing with every writing assignment so if you bring your typed draft she will help you so much that you will get an A.
