Very good teacher with willingness to go extra mile for student. She is very unorganized and sometimes late for class.
very demanding, has made students cry, does embarass students in class if work is not complete, starts lecture if she arrives early (before class should start), and often makes the class stay 10-15 min. after class...
She's so sweet, and you can tell that she enjoys what she's teaching. She uses a lot or realistic examples, and she's very smart!
She is a gifted professor. Goofy at times, but for the good. She enjoys what she does, and she is a positive reassuring person, that always let me know that I can do anything, when I thought I couldn't. I'm done with Stats now, and almost at CSUB. ;)
she thinks her class is the only class her students are taking. lecture can over a good 10 minutes. she can go on tangents about stuff that is way beyond the scope of the class. exams were fair, but she graded them too tough.
Very poor teacher. She rarely lectures about new topics. Her lectures are done poorly. She is nice, but being a nice person doesn't mean the person can be a good teacher. Class time almost devoted on a few homework problems, very little on new material.

Very spastic, unorganized and confusing in lectures. She makes the material more difficult than it should be. I had to have a tutor during this class and I also went to the learning center often for assistance. When I took the class, she was the only teacher teaching the course at the time and I wish i would have waited to take it with someone else.
Shes always late for class, and always gets sidetracked with other things going on in her life and is sure to share them during class. She assigns way too much homework and doesn't focus on whats on the test. One good thing: shes very enthusiastic about her subject and is always willing to help(even shes though never available!)
horrible teacher, if you do little homework, she nags you, she says stuff about you infront of the class and everything has to be her way or your out of the class. She harrasses some of her students. I feel bad for those who will be taking her classes next semester.
Mrs. Tarjan is one of the worst professors I have ever had for math. She is always late, she expects everyone to know the material when she doesn't even teach it, she gives a two hour test in an hour and she doesn't go over what would be on the test at all, she also goes off topic. I do not recommend you take her.
How can anyone say this wasn't an easy class. She was very helpful and was in the math center alot for questions. Yes, she got off track alot, but made up for it with easy tests. Let you have notes for tests.
She is a great teacher and anyone who says otherwise is not hardworking. she is very good with moving the curve of grades according to how the class is doing and if everyone fails a test she makes another one. gives a lot of homework which interferes with other classes.goes way out of her way to help. lectures are confused and gets behind fast.

i took her calc 2 class even after years of not "being" in class. she's terrific. i fell in-love with math all over again. actually, she was my first female college math teacher ever; i was amazed at her comfort level in teaching such a course. kudos!
she is always at least 15-20 mins. she is OFF TOPIC she will start the class then she goes off topic. for ex. someone has a question about a curve and she talks about all this irrelivant stuff and 5 - 10 mins later shes telling a story about climbing a mountain or how facinating math is and by the time she gets to the curve times over! Useless!
The worst professor I have ever had! She is rude. She doesn't make any sense in her lectures. She makes tests that are too long for the class period and that cover material that she never teaches. She assigns tons of homework and then makes it worth nothing. She makes fun of people when they ask questions or get answers wrong. SHE IS ALWAYS LATE.

She is very unorganized, has poor time management, and likes to ramble on about nothing. She answers the easiest questions, such as 2+2 and spends 30 minutes on different ways of expliaining it. But, if you stay for office hours, she is extremly helpful in helping you solve a problem.

Then she'll spend all class period "grading" homework with the class, going off on tangents about her life, etc. She's extremely disorganized, can't keep schedules to save her life. even though she's strict on things like phones and talking in class, she's kinda nice. i really wish she would go slow on explaining things. other than that, she makes you feel like your welcome and gives you so much notes to practice with. i like her. :)
Instructor is very picky on phones and talking. Once you start talking she will go off topic and lecture you on how students want to learn and that talking distracts the students. I learned more about that than actually learning math. Would not recommend this teacher. Although I did pass the class I would not recommend her.
Horrible, absolutely horrible. She assigns and collects more homework than my previous 3 math classes at BC combined. ALWAYS late. Extremely unorganized. Her tests are way to long for an hour long class. I was an A student until I took her class. Don't take her even if her class is the only one you can get into.

This teacher is always later and often keeps kids after class by 10 to 15 minutes and not just here and there but all the time not to mention she is very unorganized
Mrs. Tarjan does have a tendency to go off topic a lot, but everything she says in relevant. Me and her bumped heads a few times, but other than that, she was a good teacher. She's very passionate about her profession. She loves to help; in fact, she stood after 6 hours one time before a test day. She's very hard to work with, but a good teacher.

Good: She is extremely nice and helpful to any student who asks. Great person in general. Bad: Extremely disorganized, lazy, and unprofessional. As a teacher she is horrid, and I'm being nice. Ugly: Because she took a month to turn in final grades, I lost all my classes this spring and it might add another year to BC. AVOID HER CLASS AT ALL COSTS!
Most comments made about this professor are true. She was late on the first day of class and almost every other day after that. She was rude to many students and when asked a simple question, spent too much time on it then complained that we ran out of time or even kept us a little longer. Getting a good grade took A LOT of hard work and mostly teaching myself the material or asking other students. As a professor, I did not like her very much, but as a person, she can be very nice.
Oh my God, she sucks! The class is only an hour long, and she spends at least 20 min. every period rambling about useless info. She does not leave a lot of time for her teach the class. As a result, we end up having to teach ourselves the material. For those of us who struggle with math, her style makes it very hard to succeed. DO NOT take her!!
She is by far the worst teacher I've had at BC. I did all my homework, did the presentation with my group, and eneded up with a D. She favors "her delano kids" in the class because she taught in delano. She not helpful either. Do not take her class!!!
its true what most people say however ive retaken her class and this time around shes so much better than the last.shes improved alot from her teachings, more organized, its great to have her as a teacher because shes very passionate about math although at times she just expects you to just know and understand.this math is no ordinary math trust me

At times she may seem as though she doesn't know what she's doing, the best way to pass or get a good grade in the class is to do the homework and ask questions. Most people that fail or do bad are the people that don't put the effort in outside of the class.
I toook this professor not knowing anything about her. She's a great teacher and very helpful. Although she talks very fast, she always stops to ask if anyone has questions. She's a bit unorganized, but it's probably because she's always willing to stay after class and help those who are lost or don't quite understand. She gives enough time for HW.
Absolutely horrible. Spent more time talking about herself rather than spending time teaching. Didn't bother to learn the calculator buttons and spent a ridiculous amount of time doing problems by hand. Has you do homework from the book AND online AND collects your binder full of notes from class, online, and the book. Way too much work.
Prof. Tarjan is brilliant. However, I feel like our class was always put last compared to other higher math level classes. She walked in late almost every single day this semester. She does not like going over problems people don't understand. She wants to always move forward. If you take her class be prepared.
Teacher is a little on the crazy side, but when it comes down to it she is always there for the student! Will go out of her way to help you achieve the highest grade possible! Extremely Helpful and always gives you the benefit of the doubt on anything! I recommend taking her class as long as you are motivated to pass it! Pay Attention!
Honestly she is quite hard to follow sometimes, but she is also extremely helpful if you need something clarified she will stay after class or during office hours to help get you through it. I throughly enjoyed her class and I recommend her if your actually willing to work for your passing grade.

Most people at a community college fail to understand that different professors have different teaching methodologies and that they have varying levels of accessibility (which the professors try to maximize of course). Janet is great, she talks fast, but she knows her stuff, and is always available to help you. Do the homework, pass the class.easy

I was very excited to take math because its my favorite subject. But I ended up hating math because of her teaching. it got confusing at times and she moved at a super fast pace. She made it seem like you should already know it. She did make some students feel stupid. She also talks a lot of nonsense that has nothing to do with math.

My 1st day of class she had everyone literally playing with Legos say I g things like " pretend your finding the diameter" or "make different shapes" as she was typing her Syllabus still! Then 5 mins before class passed out the Sllybus and gave us homework NEVER DOING 1 EXAMPLE PROBLEM! and she was rude making some student look dumb ! DROP OUT !

Too much Hw (Book,Online,Notes from book, etc). I dropped the class and took the online version(ALEKS). A computer does it better than her. Atleast it stays on task.
I don't know why everyone is so negative about professor Tarjan, she's one of the best math teachers I've ever had. She's very positive, she believes everyone can pass the class and encourages you to continue trying. She's helpful and enthusiastic. She's understanding about the fact that everyone makes mistakes. Most of all she's very intelligent.
Very difficult to follow, I felt she rushed through the course work and not thoroughly teaching the material. A lot of self teaching and tutoring was needed to pass the class. She's a very nice woman and wants to help, she just needs to slow down and not assign so much homework. A full time student cannot handle the workout load of her class plus.
Although Professor Tarjan is a great teacher, I think she needs to just relax and focus on lecture. It wasn't fail to do two chapters and then the exam the next day. Her teaching style is hard to overcome, not everyone can just learn from the book with one, well not even a full lecture of the subject. I would not choose her ever again.
Janet Tarjan is a wonderful person always caring about her students and wanting them to succeed in school. Her class isn't the easiest to pass because it is so fast and there is work on the book, online and worksheets. Her class isnt for everyone. Great woman, not so great professor.

Easily one of the worst college professors I have ever had, although she is a kind hearted person. If you like structure, do not take this class. She is the most unorganized person. You can tell she really likes math, but she only knows how to explain it in the way that she understands. She also assigns an unnecessary amount of homework.
Terrible. Poor time management skills, consistently gives out assignments after the class has ended so don't pack your schedule tightly. She loves math, but talks too fast, gets hung up on details, requires two different sets of notes, one during class and one at home. She is severely unclear and rarely ever teaches, just demonstrates.
Avoid this professor if at all possible. She is knowledgeable in her field yes however more often than not she will offended by questions and viably show frustration on top of that she has MISERABLE time management skills our class spent six weeks on chapters 1,2 another six on 3-4 and rushed through the last four chapters of the book in two weeks.
Dr. Tarjan is a very educated and kindhearted woman but her lectures are just average in my book. My complaints are that she talks a bit quiet and too fast. Tarjan usually scales the scores to the highest test grade. She is extremely helpful and is always willing to go out of her way to help. I was still able to get an A in her calculus 2 class.

What she does is do a problem from the homework and then she will assign you the rest Without you knowing anything. She doesnt know how to teach. I regret taking her class.
Nice, smart lady but does not know how to teach. She gets of on a tangent out of nowhere and you won't even know when she went back to the lecture. She gets mad very easy. I was in class and a student was confused so a student in front of him tried to help and she pounced on him. Tests are incredibly hard & long. Most wont finish test guarantee.
I've never liked math until I've taken her. She explains problems really well and takes extra time if you dont. Don't take the class if you don't plan on actually learning different ways, or if you want to talk back. Tests are only hard if you don't study and ask questions. She's a good professor.

Great Prof. To pass and be successful in this class as with everything else in life you must be proactive, committed and willing to work hard. Utilize the internet and all the resources you have around you. You have to read ahead in order to utilize her knowledge. Do the homework ahead of time and come to class with questions.
I took her last semester and dear God was it a nightmare. She is a very nice lady and is willing to work with students; however, you will learn absolutely nothing from her. It is MANDATORY that you teach yourself the material in order to pass her class. I implore anyone taking MATH B6B to avoid this professor unless you have to take her.

The strucure of the class is awful. The daily lectures don't cover problems on the tests, combined with an unbelievable amount of unnecessary homework but the biggest problem is the tests. They're extremely hard and very long and the expectations are completely unreasonable. She's had peitions signed against her do I need to say anything else?
A tough course and not helped by unforeseen circumstance. She can get a bit lost in her interests but she genuinely cares for the students. Always willing to help out and lend a sympathetic ear. If you take her, be prepared to do your homework and have a three ring binder ready. A good teacher with a few minor problems here and there
Very bad with time management. Not organized in lectures at all and can't seem to catch her breath rushing. Very passionate about math and will always be willing to answer a question but will snap at you if she hears something she doesn't like. I highly recommend avoiding this professor. Calc II class was by far the most intense math class I've ever taken. I took notes from the book, asked questions in class, and watched youtube lectures, and still felt like it wasn't enough. Despite the chaos in the class, passing is possible with extreme determination. Don't take if you aren't comfortable with Calc I concepts or chaos.
Took her for her math b60 class. In reality do your homework in her class. That's what I did. I took notes only when needed, other than that doing the homework in class makes this course easy.

Be prepared with a lot of homework/notes, those will count for grade and will help for what you're about to endure. Lectures are overdone, sometimes off topic. There are times where someone asks a simple question and replies back with an overdone answer. Hates phones; especially when it's used to take pictures of notes. Overall, avoid her.

Professor Tarjan is extremely nice and is very concerned with the success of her students, but she is very unorganized. She has a hard time staying focused on the main task because she gets way ahead of herself. She does get offended quiet easily which can cause her to go off on a tangent, so be aware.
Smart professor, gives lots of homework but explains things thoroughly. However she seems to dwell too much on certain math topics and not enough on others. Also gets waaaaay off schedule with whats written in her syllabus. Be prepared for more teaching yourself than being taught at certain points. Dont be too scared of taking her, but not #1 pick.
To be completly honest, she's very nice and super sweet but as a teacher, she expects you to do perfect homework notes and wants you to do all the homework along with book notes, not to mention a three ring binder. She's a smart professor but I wouldn't take her class again.

She takes a long time lecturing for the beginning of the chapter and squeezes everything in at the end and she expects you to know it all for the test. If you are taking her, good luck.

She expects you to do the next lesson without her explaining it and than come back the next day with the work done so she can explain it then which makes no sense.
She would use my hw as an example of what not to do. She wants to you to take class notes as credit. I chose to teach myself and despite coming up with the answers in my own unique way and how I write it, it has to be HER writing style, or you get no points. She can go on a tangent quite easily and end up not covering much material during class but what she did cover helped me understand the material better.
Excellent professor, although sometimes she tends to tell a lot of stories in between lectures. She's really helpful and will do anything in her power to help you pass. Don't fall behind, it's really difficult to catch up. Especially if you already have a tough time with math. The textbook is used every day. Good luck!
this professor is very old fashioned and does everything from her own hands. she goes by the lectures so quick and expects us to know it real quick and starts new the next day thinking well know everything from the homework assigned the other day. she only grades by labs and tests which is why I did not pass the class. you cannot pass by having C's
DON'T TAKE. She told me my small handwriting meant I didn't know what I was doing in the class, even tho I was one of the people who found her class easy and had a higher grade than most. Even then, her teaching method was confusing & inconsistent. Lectures always went overtime and we were weeks behind schedule. Had no tests until 8th week of sem.
Very unorganized! Didn't get our class syllabus until the 2 week of classes. Will go on tangents & storytells during lectures. Defensive when asked any questions. Does not know how to navigate online canvas or hmwrk. No pp slides to clarify & when asked she simply replied "not my method if you do like them go find another professor." Unprofessional

Don't take this professor, she's not a very good teacher, and constantly gets off topic or goes on tangents, i feel like i'm teaching myself a math class. you will have homework, you will have SO MUCH HOMEWORK, multiple assignments due every day. She is also extremely picky and stubborn, things have to be done HER EXACT WAY or it's wrong.
The homework is no help on any of the tests. The lectures drag on longer than class time since she goes on tangents. STAY AWAY AND DO NOT TAKE HER COURSE! She expects you to learn on your own and is annoyed if you ask any questions that slow down the lecture since she rushes the lectures once she's realized how much time she's wasted.
