Great teacher! Very down to earth and cares about her students! Will do everything to help you get an A! Love her!
She really is awsome and there is no reason why anyone would fail her class...TAKE HER CLASS.
Mrs. Willman is about as brilliant as a burnt light bulb. She treats her students like children. If you turn in a late assignment, don't sweat it; she accepts more than late work. Take this class if you just want the grade. It's demeaning.
Great teach if you want an A!
I was nervous going into college my first semester, but she is so AWESOME!!! She is the best by far. I took her for both ENC 1101 and 1102! It's too bad she doesn't teach SPC 1608 at the moment :(
Apparently, the last student is not the brightest bulb in the box! Complaining about work that is accepted late, and being given full credit or even ½ credit . Wow, How brilliant! In college, one learns as much or as little as one chooses to learn. Mrs. Willman is a very nice, helpful, and informative teacher, so do not allow one students opinion
Mrs Willman is very helpful and pleasant. She accepts late work and gives more than half credit.
I thought she was a great teacher. She made learning fun. She does quizzes which is helpful in getting good grades as long as you read the stories. I thought overall she was an excellent teacher. Very nice as well.
Mrs. Willman is he best English professor! I love the way she teaches. I took her for English I and I got an A & I'm taking her now for English II and I'm passing. I wish she could teach all subjects, then i'd never fail.
The best English teacher by far. I hate English and I got an A in her class very easily. She explains everything very well. Papers are very easy to get A's on.
She is a great teacher and funny too. I highly recommend her.
I absolutely LOVED Ms. Willman. I thought that she was a fantastic teacher. She was extremely helpful and was more than willing to answer any questions. The class was fairly easy, but did provide some challenges. She also accepts late work.
Awesome teacher. She really helps you understand the material. Very little H.W. She is really nice and keeps the class entertaining. She is kind of harsh on grammar when grading but very fair. I would recommend her to anyone. looking forward to ENC 1102
Don't take this professor unless you love to write a lot! She gives a tremendous amount of writing, at least one essay a week and 250 word discussion questions and grades hard. I hope I am getting an "A" in this class because I spend at least 10 hours a week writing the essays
Nicest teacher I have ever had. She is so funny and I loved this class. She is very helpful. She teaches both 1101 and 1102. The first is bit harder than the second. I got an A in both classes. TAKE HER!
Mrs.Willman is very ak and rude. Is not clear on the assignment and gives tons of homework. Talks a lot and is very strict on grading & grammer. You will have atleast two essays a week due & other HW assignments on top of that. If you have any questions she will ignore you and doesnt take time to explain or help any of the students. DONT TAKE HER!!
Mrs. Willman is a very good teacher, if you pay attention and do the homework you'll be just fine. She's very clear and will help you! I took her for ENC1101, I have yet to take 1102 because every time I go to sign up for her class they're all already full! Everyone knows she's a great teacher! :) very pretty also! Can't wait to take her agin.
Mrs.Willman gives tons of homework and expects you to not make one mistake. She is rude and not help at all. Grades very harsh. Right after class she runs out of the door, so you dont ask her anything. Does not reply to emails on a timely manner. Highly recommend not to take her class.
Took her online class. I don't like English classes but they are not hard for me. She as decent, seemed nice. I never met her. Got an A. She gives feedback on assignments so you can try to do better on the next one.
Will not let you make up anything you miss. Hard to keep up with work because she assigns so much and isn't clear on what to do.
The best managed and organized online class I have taken. She responded to everyone of my emails very quickly. I would recommend her class to everyone. I registered determined just make it through the class, ended up enjoying it more than the other three classes I took this semester. The textbook reading is very interesting.
The best managed and organized online class I have taken. She responded to everyone of my emails very quickly.I registered determined just make it through the class, ended up enjoying it more than the other three classes I took this semester. The textbook reading is very interesting. Some of these reviews are nothing close to what I experienced.
I took Willman for English 1 & 2 and found her extremely nice and helpful. I prefer her online because it is at your own pace and the workload is quite hefty, but I liked it because it helps balance out your grade. Her work is very easy and does not require much brains at all to do. She responds in a timely manner and gives great feedback.Recommend
She is the most wonderful English teacher. I thoroughly enjoyed her class and have registered to take ENC 1102 with her. She does expect you to learn from her feedback (which she gives a lot of and is very helpful). If you have good drive to succeed, you will get an A in this course. Highly recommend!
I really enjoyed this class. I also appreciated the literature for the course. Course load is heavy but fun. You find that her assignments push you towards tapping into your excellence. Feedback from professor is clear and helpful. If I required another English class I'd choose her ten times over!
Professor Willman runs the most well organized and structured online class I have ever taken. Everything was crystal clear, detailed, and you knew what was expected of you. She grades fairly, gives appropriate and detailed feedback, and is quite fair in her grading. I wish I had taken her for ENC-1101!
Took ENC 1102 online. Very easy. There is a research paper due at the end, but she isn't clear on the directions. She contradicts herself with the directions of the research paper. She's an okay teacher. Wouldn't take her again though.
Loved the class and the professor. She made the class very interesting and even though it was an online class I felt she was very engaged with the students. She is fair and gives lot of very helpful feedback. I never waited more than a few hours for a response which I found amazing since she had lots of online students. Wonderful educator.
Ms. Willman is a very good teacher. I took both ENC I and II with her as a dual enrolled student online and enjoyed having her as my professor. Ms. Willman will give you the grade deserved. As long as you follow her directions exactly and submit your work on time, you will do fine in her class.
Professor was very organized and precise with her assignments. We knew what to expect each week. If a student followed her instructions specifically and completed everything on time, the student should do very well.
My kind of professor! The class is easy to navigate.Assignments and instructions are clear. She gives great feedback so that you can improve.A 250 word discussion post once a week, with a 100 word reply. The final is an 1000 word research paper.Easy to contact! If you have a question she will reply in no time. This is ENC, so don't whine about writing.
Shes the worst teacher and if you forgot to do one thing such as indent you get 0/100 on assaigment not even any credits
The best thing about her is that she gives feedback. I had a bad experience in 1101 where the prof gave little feedback. Willman expects you to learn from her feedback. She is very prompt when returning e-mails. The final project was a bit confusing at first, but you can ask her for clarification through e-mail or in person. I recommend her!
She was very helpful in all the essays that we had to write and she also was very understanding on most things. I had an essay due and my computer erased the whole thing and she let me turn it in late. She is a good teacher and I recommend taking her class.
I took professor Wilman for ENC 1102. I learned a lot in her class on how to construct a proper essay. You will have a discussion board every week 250 words with a response to peer 100 words. Make sure you take time on final research paper it's worth 30% of your grade.
Mrs. Willman is an English teacher to have! She is very specific and takes lessons step by step and is more willing to help you through any difficulties you have. In high school I was having a lot of difficulty writing thesis statements. By the first two classes of English I got an A on my thesis statement. This teacher puts purity in English.
Took for Eng1 and Eng2. Discussion boards for both courses, as well as reading stories and writing analysis of them. Not hard at all. Eng2 however has one main research paper that is due at the end that will fail you if you don't complete. She is the only teacher that requires research info come from HCC books ONLY. Recommend for Eng1 NOT Eng2!
I took Mrs. Wilman for ENC 1101 (in class) and 1102 (online). She was awesome. She isn't too tough of a grader and she will give feedback where needed. I definitely recommend her if you choose to take enc online :)
Great experience. Fair Grader. Quickly responds back to any questions. Everything is laid out clearly in the Syllabus. Read it, read it, then read it again. The work is spread out evenly throughout the semester so you wont get slammed any week. Reading material is interesting and relevant. Was my first online class and glad she was my professor
She was a great teacher! Easy class but be prepared to write an essay pretty much every week.
Her summer semester online was perfect. Laid out in three units, two weeks each. She is very clear on each assignment and gives plenty of examples. Each unit has a few readings, some informal discussion boards, a few assignments, and usually two papers. The last unit has a research paper worth 30% of your final grade. She grades fair and quick!
I definitely wouldn't recommend choosing this Professor, or at least taking her summer course. She assigns looong essays, and bunches of writing assignments. The grading criteria isn't very clear, and every assignment was about feminism. I didn't learn anything in her class. The summer class was laid out in 3 units, with 6 essays every 2 weeks!
Im taking this online class right now and I have a high B. She's very reasonable, each week you have an assignment, a discussion board, and a quiz. Do the work and you won't have a problem. About 5 or 6 essays I believe, but it is english so. . . What I love is everything is organized, you'll never not know what to do. No extra credit opportunity.
Professor Willman is not willing to work with you at all. Her feedback is harsh and she offers no extra credit. Although the workload is not that bad if you miss one assignment worth 25pts it is impossible to get your grade up. She does not care about her students success. She takes off a significant amount of points for the smallest errors.
The online course was structured fantastically, with great weekly discussion boards and timely feedback on writing assignments. You can expect to write every week, usually two different submissions. The workload was far from unbearable, but if you are not disciplined enough to dedicate the expected time and effort you may not want to attend online.
Ms. Willman is great a lot of essays ( it's an English class) She will help you get a better grade if you are willing to do the assignments and read whatever is on the syllabus.
BEWARE, this teacher is TOUGH. Not sure how she has a 4.1 rating, but i'm glad a new thread has started because the truth needs to come out. She does not teach. She provides little to NO explanation on why she graded you the way she did. Very little feedback is given and NO extra credit. Bottom line, expect to get no more than a C. FIND sum1else
I have taken this Prof. for ENC 1101 and 1102. Both were online classes. She was a very tough grader. I had to work very hard to receive the A that I did. When I took ENC 1101, there were cases when she did not respond to my emails. This was frustrating. I did not want to take her for 1102, but I did anyways. I would not recommend this professor.
Professor Willman is very unclear in homework assignments. She takes off so many points for the tiniest mistakes. When emailing her she was very condescending and rude. This made you not want to contact her because she would belittle you. I do not recommend this teacher. She would not round a 79 to a B for the semester grade.
Willman is a ok professor. I took English comp two online and she was helpful enough for my expactation of a online class. What I did not like was the class itself. Every week an essay is due and she is a tough grader. I had to work extreamly hard for the A in the class. I dont reccomend if you dont have at least 4 hours a week to read and write.
Great teacher overall. She gave us a lot of practice and my writing skills have improved remarkably. The work she gives is easy yet very productive. It's am easy A as long as you do what you're supposed to. The only bad thing is that she's stingy about word count. I will definitely be taking her for English Composition 2.
Amazing teacher ! she truly cares about her students and their grades.
Best English teacher ever!! Even with a challenging class full of brats she manage to keep her cool. Do all your essays. Loved her class so much I signed up for her 1102.
Best English Professor at HCC. English is not my first language; however, I passed her 1101 and 1102 with an A. I also took her ENC 0022 and got a B. If you do your work and stay on track you'll pass. Some students take advantage and turn in late assignments since she doesn't take points away, not fair for those who are always on time.
I worked so hard in her course and barely got a B. She's very unclear when she gives you instructions for an assignment and marks off a ton of points for the smallest mistakes. I used the word "thing" one time in an essay and she said that the use of the word "thing" one time was too vague and then marked off ten points! She's a terrible professor.
She assigns an essay and discussion with a reading each week. They aren't difficult and if you put forth effort and turn everything in on time you will do just fine. I could have easily gotten an A but I didn't turn in a 50pt. essay on time and she does not take late work. She's a fair grader and gives you good feedback. I liked it for being online
Extremely caring and loving. She will give amazing feedback while grading your papers and will walk you through ways to improve your writing.
I took this class online and enjoyed reading the short stories. Professor Willman does give a lot of writing assignments, but she's very fair in grading. If you turn in your work on time and do a decent job in your assignments/essays, you can get an A. I would take her for another class.
In my opinion, not friendly at all. She marks off ten points just for an incorrect word that she doesn't prefer in your essays. I was one point away from a B, but she refused to add a point to boost up my grade. No extra credit at all. Kindness goes a long way and so does understanding. She doesn't either.
She offered am easy and well structured class. However I finished with a 89.6 and ignored my mercy email for that .4 points.
Mrs Willman has a genuine concern for every student, meets students where they are at, clearly articulates her expectations and encourages striving for excellence. Mrs Willman is an excellent choice for first semesters because she gives keys to achieving success in college.
One of THE best professors in HCC. She's so funny and she tries to make the class as easy as possible. Sometimes you have homework and quizzes but it's very rare. But you do have an essay every 2 weeks. And she gives good feedback so if you're bad at essays, you can still improve and get an A . She also gives extra credit so TAKE HER CLASS!!!!
Professor Willman is a great professor. She seems to enjoy her job and takes the time to actually work with you!! You will never leave her class feeling like youve done or learned nothing
She was great. I took her ENC 1101 distance learning course. There were many essays but she graded fairly.
Professor Willman was very nice and accommodating. I looked forward to the class. I felt there was a moderate amount of homework. It wasn't too crazy. She explains MLA very well. This was the first class that I learned MLA format and she made it so easy to understand that I was able to help my sister with the MLA on her paper in 1101 a week later.
A wonderful teacher and a simple class. There was a lot of writing, but that is to be expected in an ENC course.
I do not recommend taking this teacher. She takes a very long time to grade your work and it's always a coin toss wether you will do well or not.
I took her class online. She expects you to have the basics mastered, so she does not hesitate to grade you roughly. Lots of reading, but it is interesting. Her instructions are sometimes not clear, very broad so make sure to contact her if you have any questions. Overall, good teacher!
I took this course online. Typical English II assignments. She's a tough grader. It's been over 20 years since I took English I so some things were new to me like MLA formatting that affected my grade. Discussion threads were pretty good, easy to earn full points there. I received an A in this class. Just proof your essays really well.
She marked off on a few things I would call "iffy", but I could see why & didn't dispute. She did offer good feedback when I got something wrong - it wasn't just marked with no explanation. She did not always like to answer questions *she* thought could be answered by the assignment instructions. Decent class discussions. Grading was fair.
Professor Janet Willman is a nice lady but she grades very harshly and gives back minimal feedback.
She's a very tough grader. Extremely harsh but she does give feedback on what you got wrong. She expects everything to be perfect, and better be if you want a decent grade.
I took her online ENC 1102. Grading was a bit tough and sometimes felt arbitrary, but some feedback was always provided. Discussion boards should be an easy 100. There is a fair amount of reading (mostly on gender) for 6 weeks and a fair amount of work - about 5 essays and one 1000 word research paper. Quite challenging, ended the class with a 96%.
I received 100% grades on all assignments at first, then, out of nowhere came the poorly assigned projects. The rubrics were nonexistent, and the prompt was vague at best. When I contacted the professor she was unreasonably rude and genuinely unhelpful. brought my grade down to an 88 on THE LAST ASSIGNMENT. Do not take. She simply does not care.
Shes a very nice teacher , she really cares about you as a student and how you learn in her class. She offers help in class ,the work she gave was very helpful.
Granmarly is your best friend in this course. Make sure you master MLA and know how to elaborate on your commentary and youll pass. Therere reading assignments, quizzes on assigned readings, three essays, and a final research essay. Shes a great teacher.
With this being my last English credit for my degree, Im going to miss attending her classes. Mrs. Willman has a great sense of humor and the class was very involved. Some papers were grueling to finish, but thats expected with most classes. She gives good feedback and is accommodating to students. I wish there were more professors like her!
I'm going to miss Mrs. Willman so much. She gave me confidence in my writing and made me feel like my constant hard work paid off. If you put in the effort, she will notice. Also, don't be afraid to communicate with her if something is going on in your personal life. Overall, just don't use "you" in your essays and you'll be good!
I didnt appreciate her lack of feedback as well as her inability to communicate properly as I took her online. Would not recommend.
I took this class online and it was really easy until I had to write my first essay, and it was a pretty good essay, but she took off a ridiculous amount of points because I had one grammar mistake. My grade dropped so much since the essay was worth so much that I had to withdraw. Not only that.
She gave me a 70 on paper for grammatical errors without giving us any context towards her grading standards prior to. It dropped my grade so much I was forced to withdraw. In addition, she never answered any of my messages. Absolutely horrible. Do not take.
Horrible
She gave me a zero because I didnt turn in my discussion post before the imaginary due date that she made up that was completely different than when the course said it was due.
She is very difficult to get in touch with. If you are writing to her she won't respond until days later. When she grades something she takes off a crap ton of points for one mistake. Her feedback doesn't help what so ever. Would not take her, she isn't very present.
The directions she gave us were always unclear. Most of the reading instructions were incorrect and not related to the textbook. She is also a harsh grader, she will take off several points for small mistakes and only essays (4) will improve your grade. Theres barely any assignments for this class. She made me more confident in my writing although
This Proffesor has been nothing but rude and arrogant in her grading style. She demands your work is perfect and takes major points off of assignments with only a few errors. The feedback has not been helpful, she tells you what you've done wrong but does not explain how to fix it or why its wrong.
Honestly too much work for a 1 credit class. Her class is unorganized, having assignments due in week 5 that were "locked" however were expected to work on it since week 1. The course load is more than English 2. Her requirements on assignments are not clear and are sporadic. Her grading style is difficult, but she seems nice. Wouldn't recommend
I don't know what's up with the last like 5 or 6 comments, and I also can't speak on her online classes, but she's the best English professor I've ever taken. Yes, there's a lot of writing, but it's an English class. Come on! I had the worst teacher ever teach me grammar in middle school, but she made it easy to understand.
She is very understanding. She can seem really tough at first but she is really great. To be able to do most of the homework you need the knowledge from class. She is one of my favorite Professors and I would take he class again.
I love Mrs. Willman's teaching style! She has a great personality and loves to get to know you. I seriously don't understand why so many people left bad reviews. The course is essay heavy but the topics are interesting to write about. Best English professor/teacher I've had in a very long time. I took her honors class. Would recommend.
Even if your paper is grammatically correct, she will knock off 10 points if she finds one sentence to be "awkward." Her instructions are so incredibly unclear that more than half of our class misunderstood and resulted in us doing double the work. Every single one of us got an F for that. There is absolutely NO reasoning with her. Awful professor.
It seems like the class experience differ whether you take it live or online. Prepare your week ahead of time because online class has a lot of assignments. Her instructions aren't always clear, she'll knock off a lot of points for small mistakes, and she'll create new due dates even though canvas says it's another day. Wouldn't recommend.
She is a very good professor. Sometimes the grading criteria is just plain weird, but the feedback is very good. I would take her again. She does knock off points for some weird things, but that still doesn't take away from how good of a professor she is.
Real all of the provided stories, you will use them sooner or later for essays. She grades harder because it is 1102 but she is fair and gives great feedback.
I took her class last year as a high school freshman for dual enrollment, and she was not the best professor. She was not very understanding and made things extra difficult. I would not take her again.
I don't understand why English teachers feel the need to be so strict. In my opinion, English should be separated into two different courses. One for people pursuing literary careers, and for everyone else, it should be a course about communication.
I took ENC 1101 as a dual enrollment class in 10th grade along with 2 other HCC classes. She is very strict when it comes to grading small mistakes, and amounts of work involved other than the essays is heavy.
She is a bit strict on formatting but after one assignment or two you will get used to it. the activities we did in 1102 especially were very engaging and pretty easy. She grades fast, I found about Wednesday most things would be graded and she lets you re write an essay in both 1101 and 1102 to be replaced with a score you got below a 60 on.
Take enc1102 IN PERSON! (online class layouts are always more difficult) Mrs Willman is very kind and understanding and her environment in the classroom was very positive. She wants you to succeed and makes it very clear. She gives good feedback and many opportunities to bring up your grade. One of the best prof ive had at hcc. 10/10
Ms. Willman is a very kind hearted woman, she really cares about her students and will go above and beyond to help you. She is a very tough grader and very specific in what she expects. I enjoyed the reading materials she used, they were all interesting. If you take her class just be prepared to work and dont be scared to ask questions!
Gives good feedback, if you apply her feedback your grade will improve. She is a tough grader, but this is a college course so it's expected. She always provides a template which is very helpful, I've relied on her templates many times to help me organize the essays. Heavy workload. Sometimes assignments have taken me hours.
Mrs. Willman was a great professor and helped me to expand my writing skills. She offered assistance if I had any questions and gave great feedback on our papers before they were graded. As long as you read the rubric and follow her corrections, this course should be easy-going and low stress. Great semester!
Professor can be strict, but provides valuable feedback. Prepare thoroughly and utilize tools like unstuck ai to stay on top of the workload. Overall, a challenging but rewarding class.
Definitely would recommend this professor. It's somewhat easy to get an A if you read or watch the course material. This is either a book or a TV series and you essentially analyze the characters and time period. The work isn't difficult as it mainly comprises discussions and quizzes about the show or book. The end-of-course project is worth a lot.
Very tough but caring, she's a really good teacher though and will help you if show interest. MAke sure you follow the syllabus.
AWFUL. Rude and condescending. Accused me of using AI on an entirely me-written paper for 5 months, would NOT LET UP. even the dean was on my side. Eventually read the supplemental paper I came in and wrote to prove I didn't use AI, changed her mind on a whim and didn't apologize for the five months of stress she caused. Never take her if you can.
Good teacher, tough class.
