I always thought she was great at King's.
One of the best math teachers ever. Was very helpful, clear and entertaining. Go to class, participate and don't take advantage of her...there are not many like her left. FABULOUS

Very energetic. Manages to creat an exciting atmosphere that really draws you into the material. Cal2 with her has been my favorite math class ever.
Wow! She is a handful. She tends to write down EVERYTHING she says. She is a great teacher, however does not have time to show many examples because she's too busy writing down random comments. The material is tough, you must keep up on your homework and do go to tutoring.
Very energetic, explains everything in plain english. Lectures are engaging and very informative.
EXTREMELY energetic! She can be sarcastic and seem harsh at times, but she is sincerely a nice, helpful woman. Just talk to her if you have problems, and she will be more than happy to help!
Very energetic teacher! Enjoys taking Calculus and explaining it in a way that everyone can understand. Always willing to help out students from understanding anything from the basics to the complicated. Great person outside of class as well.
Key to sucess is doing ALL the homework problems, not just the ones assigned and buy the SOLUTIONS MANUAL if you havent already. Big help.
Excellent teacher. I heard so many horror stories about diff eq but she made the material understandable and fun. Go to class and do your homework and you will be good to go.
teaches it like an early high school class. If you are a fan of Dr. Meek's style, don't take her class. If you hate Dr. Meek's style, this one's for you.
She seems like a high school type teacher. She reminds me a lot of Janine Garafalo. Her attitude is unpredictable, but her teaching habits are very straight forward.
Very enthusiastic.. will keep you interested.
Her in-class tests are somewhat difficult, but if you do well on those tests, then the midterm and final will seem easy. Her class demands some work, but she is a great teacher and she'll make sure that you learn your calculus before taking the midterm or final.
Your grade in this class is a function of how often you do homework, study and go to class. I made a C, but I missed a lot of class and tried to cram too much for tests. She's a great teacher, and very helpful if you make an attempt to figure things out before going to her. If you have to take Calc, I don't see it getting any better than Woodland.
Teaches the class like she's a comedian who's desperate for laughs. Very helpful on homework, but only if you visit her during office hours.
Calculus taught by Woodland is the worst class anyone could ever take. One of my friends made a b in the class, everyone else i heard of made a c. Her test are impossible. If you take Woodland you will be cheated out of a grade so take Meak. I passed the ap test in highschool and still made a c. Impossible class. Do yourself a favor and stay away
Homework is easy and so are her study guides, but her tests are completely ridiculous. AVOID THIS CLASS. I made a B in the class only because I aced the midterm and final. The in class tests were HORRIBLE.
People often mix up a challenging class with a terrible class. Calculus in itself is difficult. Woodland in of herself is a challenging teacher. So, this makes for a challenging class, not a terrible class or teacher. Tests are hard but not impossible. She is wonderfully helpful and overall a solid professor. Shes dedicated and CARES about students
Whoever said she dedicates herself to students must have never had her. She is the worst teacher in a horrible math department. I suggest you take math anywhere but the U of A
cant teach worth a crap. Cal is a hard class to begin with and she doesnt make it any easier. Her lectures consist of her playing with her markers on the board.
A very interesting teacher who makes class fun.
While she may use close to ten markers per lecture, she uses the colors to make a point and help you visually remember concepts. She is an excellent teacher and is usually available to help you if you take the time to request it. Unfortunately, her tests are the spawn of satan... ridiculously difficult if you ask me... not impossible though.
She is a good teacher, but her test are impossible. Make sure that you do well on the midterm and final because she doesn't make those and they are easier. She's very helpful if you go to her office and she gives you test correction points which are really nice.
Very boring. Never used textbook. A ridiculous class that is a waste of time. She is a nice lady, but a very boring teacher.
Math 2033 is the liberal arts math. It is such a boring/waste of my tuition money class. I regret taking it, but if you want to sign up for a class that will require absolutely nothing of you, go for it. There are no tests; just work on the "wiki", do a project that involves math either by yourself or in a group, and try to earn "happiness points"?
Awful class. No tests, but points come from one project and posting on daily forums and creating a class "wiki" site. Not a math class as much as a website editing class. This class is a waste of time, tuition money, and brain power. Whatever you do, do not take this class unless you want to gouge your eyes out due to boredom and frustration.
Woodland is an amazing teacher, but you have to actually try in the class. You'll hear some bad things, but that is because she is so intense. You will learn calculus if you want to. If you don't care, your grade will show it. She is hilarious.. but don't talk in her class. Quiz on first day of Cal 2.. def of f'.
Difficult class. Take Meek's class if you want an easier Cal 1 class. Woodland has her own sense of humor and lecturing style that takes a little while to get used to. Tests are reasonably difficult but the test corrections are very nice.
Woodland is a very energetic and engaging prof, but this class was too unstructured. There are no significant assignments aside from the group project, wiki entries and blog posts, the latter two of which were practically useless assignments. I admire their ambition and passion, but this class needs some definite revising.
Overall, she wad great teacher teaching a difficult subject. To do well in her class you are going to have pay attention and do all the homework outside of class, plus more. Also the drill sections things are really helpful. You just get lots of practice problems. They go over everything the woodland went over the day before.
Great Professor: I have had her for Cal I and Cal II and it has been one of the most difficult...yet satisfying classes I've ever had. You cannot take either of these classes lightly, but she's reasonable. You will never find yourself bored in her class and you may even laugh (a lot) because she is funny & witty.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. Here lectures are interesting and comprehensive, and she is very enthused while teaching the subject. She was able to keep me interested the whole time, and made me enjoy coming to class. I highly suggest her.
She claims her Cal I class is for those who have never had Calculus before. NOT TRUE! Her lectures are terrible. She's all over the place. All the learning I did was from reading the book and the tutoring center. She's very good at mathmatics, and she wants everyone to know it.
Math 2033, Mathematical Thought. WORST course I have ever taken. Woodland's grading was extremely subjective: No assignments or tests. There was one group project which no guidelines were ever given. Perhaps if she had operated from some sort of syllabus the class would be more interesting.
Space Cadet...will start problems on the board and then not finish them then go on to the next one, leaving you wondering how to solve. Expect to find a tutor.
hopeless teacher, Calc II is already hard, but she makes it extra harder. She probably hate students, her tests contain questions that are not taught. Wished I look through ratemyprofessor before taking her class.
In U of A, there are teachers that are amount the best, and then her, amount the worst of worst, she tries to be funny, but she's not, she makes calc II harder and she will tell you that she will make it hard. No study guide for test, her tests are miserable. Do yourself a favor and avoid her.
I got an A, and still pretty much hated this class. She seems to get offended every time someone asks her a somewhat difficult question. And the way she answers questions- She sounds so superior and overbearing. Makes her explanations a million times harder to understand by using unnecessary difficult terms. Leaves the student more confused.
She is quirky but she is interested and fun and she wants to help everyone as much as she can but she will make you work for it.
Very enthusiastic. Material is very easy to understand and she emphasizes what to study very well. Kinda out there but over a very effective teacher.
She knows her stuff, but she doesn't seem to really care about her students at all. Her tests are often very hard and contain outlandish questions that were hardly covered in class. I suggest trying to find a different teacher for calculus 1 or 2. She is brilliant and has been teaching for a long time, but wasn't good at conveying the information.
What she assigns in class an what are on her tests are completely different. They are really hard.
Woodland really is a nice lady, but strict with grading. Her tests are very difficult, and her lectures can go over your head. Definitely go to her office hours and always attend drill. Do the online homework, it will help your grade more than you think.
Good Teacher, Explains things clearly, but She will challenge you with homework questions. Tests are not overly hard, and she will let you do test corrections. Overall good and enthusiastic teacher who is always willing to help. Horrible textbook though, will need to use outside sources.
Difficult tests. Do all the homework and test prep questions. If you have done the test corrections ask her to proof them. No reason to not get back all the points you can. Explains difficult material clearly; copy her blackboard. Sassy sense of humor, doesn't suffer fools gladly or repeat announcements often. Most informative calculus instructor.
Tests are ridiculous. Pick another teach and your GPA will thank me.
You really have to work hard in this class. Whatever you do, DO NOT take this class lightly! You will regret it! Trust me. She is a good professor but sometimes her tests can be really hard. So make sure you're prepared! She allows test corrections, meaning you get 1/5 of the points back. So take FULL advantage of those.
Her tests cover the basics, but she'll throw a twist in with a few problems to throw you off. You can typically only finish a test by the end of class only if you know everything off the top of your head. E-quizzes are a pain, and tests are worth 86% of the final grade. But she's easy to talk to if you go to office hours.
worst class ever
Don't take this class if possible. She explains everything so differently and it makes me more confused. And I've already had calculus. She doesn't care about the answer, she wants to see the work done "her" way. It's ridiculous
She seems a bit stubborn, problems must be worked her way, she can be chill at times but most of the time shes tough and hard and moves through problems really fast in class. Kinda of intimidating and her tests are tough. TAKE NOTES IN CLASS OF ALL THE PROBLEMS SHE WORKS. Unless your already really good at Calculus it will take work for an A
Wooodland is a monster. She is outstanding at Calculus and Math in general. So good that she expects you too be as good as her. Her tests are ridiculous. Easy to understand concepts are thrown against the wall and beaten to death. She makes everything difficult. Avoid her. For your own safety.
She will purposely make tests to trick you. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS! Even if you think you know calculus, you don't know HER calculus
She said her class is for those who have not taken calculus before, she lies. She also goes over things at auctioneer pace. She also has no care for her students. If you have a question you might as well forget about an answer. Do not take her!!!
She is a really mean teacher and she makes you feel stupid if you ask a question. She flies through topics super fast too and it's really hard to keep up.
Dr. Woodland is a great teacher and explains the content verry well. I have no idea why people think she is a bad teacher. When you ask questions she is kind of rude about answering them sometimes but only when the question is about what she just said clearly and you didn't follow.
Aviod Woodland at all costs. I had this class in high school and if I didn't I would be lost. She doesn't explain concepts very well and her tests are very difficult as well. She expects you to get something the very first time she shows it to you.
Dr. Woodland is so complicated in the way she explains things. If I hadnt had calculus in high school i would have failed for sure. I averaged a low D on the tests but did all the homework and managed to squeak by with a C. Do not take her under any circumstances. I dont care what anybody elses review says, do not take her!!! Take anybody else!!
Dr. Woodland is the worst teacher I have ever had. She thinks she is the smartest person ever, and if you don't get something that you are stupid. She is awful at explaining, and the tests were ridiculous. She also does not respond to emails if you try to ask her questions or meet with her. Do NOT take this teacher, you will regret it.
Best calculus professor I have ever had. She explains really well and she gives a lot of partial credits in the tests. Her test are a little bit tricky, but if you study you will do fine
She is horrible. I've took calculus in high school and still have a bad grade because she is that picky about how your answers should be. She says you don't have to have taken calculus in high school but assumes everyone has. She doesn't explain anything, she pretty much just writes stuff on the board and the whole time she cracks the lamest jokes.
Great teacher, easily my favorite teacher I've had. That being said, she is very fast in lecture, but she takes ample time to answer questions. We've spent a whole class talking about one problem. She is obviously passionate. She doesn't assign a lot of homework(mostly beciase she doesn't want to grade it. Tests are too long.
This class was not easy. Dr. Woodland likes to make the honors class harder and teach material that is not in the curriculum. The tests aren't hard if you pay attention and go to class. Do not miss a class, or you will miss so much. She really likes to get you to think. Nothing is plain in this class. Work hard, know the material.
Absolutely horrible! Rude, unyielding, unreasonable, uncommunicative, and changes rules to suit HER opinion. If you wish to be treated like a dumb child, this is your professor. If you already have some Cal III knowlege, AVOID AT ALL COST!
Avoid her at all cost. Im a math major, and I graduated in the top 3 percent of my high school class, got a 5 on the AP Cal test. I had a 4.0 my entire college career and got a 95 in Cal II. I got a C in her class because she sucks at teaching and makes the tests impossible. She does not have internet in her home so you can't even email for help.
She's a nice enough person. However, for someone who wants to actually learn the material and understand it, she is not the person to take. Not only is she confusing, but when you try to get help, she does not respond to e-mails, and is almost impossible to find in her office. I would avoid her.
She was a very intelligent woman; however, she seemed entirely uninterested in teaching us the material, and it was nearly impossible to get a hold of her for help.
Dr. Woodland is very knowledgable about the material covered. However, she tends to focus more on the theory of Cal 3 rather than doing actual examples. Communication with her is difficult, but she is very nice and the tests are pretty fair.
Here's the deal. While she might seem hard, she's by no means a difficult teacher to understand. It was helpful to have Palma as a drill teacher. Just go to class too. Heck, I got a green star when I went to class still feeling the effects of Thursday night. Just give it an effort and you should be ok.
Dr. Woodland is very knowledgable about the material , and she's hilarious so lectures are easy to listen to. She is very theoretical, though, so do the homework and go to drill if you want to see real examples before the test.
I liked Dr. Woodland aout 70% of the time. It takes a while to get adjusted to her teaching style but once you get adjusted it is really useful. She explains a lot of theory and I thought that was interesting. Don't think because you took calculus in high school that is going to be an easy A. This class requires effort.
Dr. Woodland is fantastic! You have to show up to class and drill if you want any chance passing but she explains everything very clearly and provides great examples with very through explanations. She is a little strange and it takes the first week or two to adjust to her teaching style but after that it is smooth sailing from there
There are 30 questions a week, given through MyLabsPlus. Overall, I thought her lectures were fine, but she's not very high on the helpfulness level, mainly because of her low email responsiveness. She was very clear when reviewing for the midterm and final. She is willing to answer interesting ideas, but you *have to* see her in person.
Very difficult class. Took Calculus 2 first semester of Freshman year. I wish I retook Calculus 1 and took Cal 2 with a different professor. Exams are not written by Dr. Woodland. She doesn't work problems all the way. I didn't feel prepared for exams in her class. I learned more in Drill. Im an A student that ended up with a C.
She is the worst math teacher I have ever had. She is semi helpful if you go to her office but in class you are always lost. Get the textbook and try to read it before class because it is the only thing that might prepare you. Try to get a different teacher.
I had AP credit for cal1 but decided to retake it for an easy first semester- big mistake! I got nothing out of her lectures and if I didn't already know the material so well from AP, I would've struggled tremendously. She's not a terribly harsh grader and all quizzes are announced and not too hard but prepare to teach yourself the lecture material
Avoid avoid avoid. I am planning on minoring in math but this class has really dissuaded me from doing that. She mostly explains theory and gives very few concrete examples in class. I have never taken calculus before and am having a very hard time following her lectures. She can be very condescending and is generally not helpful.
Possibly the worst math teacher I have ever had. Avoid at all costs.
Avoid this professor. She's awful in every way shape and form. She will mislead and almost deceive you with notation and anything regarding expectations of the exams. I can't think of anything that she does well.
The teacher lecture basically rely more on theory rather than showing well thought out example problems. Many of the topic cover in class does not line up with the stuff in the midterm and online homework...
Woodland is a good teacher for linear and if you actively listen in lecture you should do well. However she does not give much feedback when it comes to homework, and you will have to do homework even when its not due to understand the material.
Not a very good teacher for Cal 1 at least. Only went over theory and wouldn't even finish the few good example problems she mentioned. Very hard to get ahold of outside of class and doesn't respond to most emails.
She is talking much more than teaching, I did well in this class because I had a good Drill Instructor.
Worst professor I've ever had. Flies through lectures with little to no explanations. Barely works problems out. Most likely about to withdraw from this class and try again with a different professor.
Great teacher that knows how to keep her students engaged during class with a funny lecture style. Only thing i didn't like about her is that she doesn't use blackboard at all.
She doesn't explain nothing and zooms through the lectures ended up dropping the class
I absolutely loved Dr. Woodland. I had her for Calc I and not only is she super silly, but she has a great method of explaining things and always tries to avoid notation, something I really appreciate. She definitely moves fast, but that, as well as the amount of homework, difficulty of tests, and level of grading, is just part of the class.
Shes not bad. I took her for Calculus 1 and decided to take her again for Calculus 2 just because I was used to her. She goes fast so her lectures are hard to keep up with, but shes really funny and makes class entertaining. Her tests aren't easy, but could be a lot more hard. There's better teachers, but if you end up with her you'll be alright.
This is the second class I've had with her. I'm even taking her again for another math course next semester. She has a wonderful personality and demands respect from her students. Her lectures are very clear and well organized. I hated the material itself, but she gives me some hope in our horrific math department. I highly recommend Dr. Woodland
Dr. Woodland has a more theory-centric lecture style that I had to adapt to. Once I was used to it,the class was not as bad as I thought it would be and I actually liked it. Can be kind of intense sometimes, but its really just passion. Go to office hours if you need to,super helpful one on one in my experience. Just be ready to work outside class.
She is a brilliant woman and has her personal quirks such as "WKF" that help students remember information. Her tests are definitely difficult. However, she is an awesome person and makes you learn. She is also supportive further down a students career and is always willing to help.
Dr. Woodland is a fine teacher. Calculus is generally a tough subject and requires a lot of effort on the student side of things, but if you put in that effort, Dr. Woodland will meet you halfway. I was really scared to go to her office, but the first time I did, she put me at ease and gave me great test-taking advice. Give her quirkiness a chance.
Everyone here saying she focuses too much on theory... that's what calculus is. Woodland explains concepts and ideas very clearly, and she will answer any questions you have during class. If you go into her office, she will give you great advice, strategies, and general test-taking tips. She's a little weird, but give her a chance. She deserves it.
Early in the semester it seemed like she was trying to weed out the students who did not belong in the course, but after the first test, she loosened up and made the class more enjoyable. Don't ask stupid questions or she will make you feel like a fool, and do the homework and you will be fine in the class.
I got an A in the class. Don't even bother emailing her she wont respond. Lectures are confusing, scattered and don't seem to be planned at all. She doesn't even make her own lecture slides. Doesn't provide answers for study guides. Her tests and quizzes are fair but this is because she doesn't make them.
I had Dr. woodland for Cal1 and Cal2 and shes been teaching math a looong time. She'll tell you exactly what to do for each problem and works examples how she expects you to write them out on the test. Her teaching style is very brute force and she can be a lot sometimes but always always go to her if you have questions she wants you to do well
Dr. Woodland is by far the worst professor I have ever had. I am a 4.0 student and I got a C in her class. Her lectures are all over the place and she doesn't ever explain what she is doing. She is super disrespectful to her students. She always yells at us because we are "stealing her time" but she shows up late EVERY SINGLE DAY. She is awful.
I would avoid Dr. Woodland. Her lectures are very scattered and hard to follow. She focuses on practice problems rather than teaching concepts. One thing that drove me crazy was the fact that she doesn't put in grades. I dont mean she puts them in late, I mean it is currently the week after finals and not a single test or quiz has been entered yet.
Dr. Woodland gives amazing lectures that makes the fundamentals of each topic memorable. She's very funny, too. She does get angry if you talk over her, though. The course is very test heavy, so its important to do well on every assignment, show up to drill, and attend lecture. Cal 2 is hard;she'll definitely make you work for an A.
Great professor
Worst attitude I've ever seen from a professor. Unreceptive to questions, openly condescending and rude. Moves quickly with little introduction to concepts. Lectures are for copying down problems and learning how to do them later. Expects a few hours of work every day and tests/quizzes accordingly. Other students are primary resource for help.
She doesn't explain any of the actual concepts that are trying to be learned. She just starts our with a practice problem and its really hard to follow if you haven't learned anything yet. She really doesn't teach she just comes to class and does problems and expects you to learn from it.
Expects you to just learn from vague examples and/or by yourself.
She knows too much 'technical Math' using lots of technical terms that is hard to keep up with the everyday lecture. You will probably learn the most from the drills.
She is awful at explaining everything she teaches. She goes through a powerpoint and doesn't explain why she's doing anything. She will often tell you that a certain topic won't be on the test or you won't need to know it, don't listen to her. The tests are always way harder than the class material. She's awful and you won't learn anything.
GET SARAH AS YOUR DRILL INSTRUCTOR!!!! She is the main reason I knew what was going on in this class. Woodland goes to fast in lectures, and she makes already difficult topics harder by explaining them in a really confusing way. The best way to do well in this class is to attend every drill and work out the worksheets the drill instructors give you
There is a reason Cal2 is known as the hardest course taught at this University. Woodland is by far the hardest professor I've had, and made me count down the days until the last day of class. Demands you only ask her questions and will get mad in front of everyone if she deems it too simple of a question. Avoid at all costs.
Doesnt explain methods well, few out of class assignments to practice with.
Dr. Woodland says her goal is to teach cal1 to those whove never had it, and I was in that boat. I found the class easy(ish) but Im also math-minded. Class moves vv fast so go to class and SI often to stay up to date. She likes participation but can be condescending at times. Willing to work with you if you go to her first. HW every Sunday
Awful professor. If you asked her a question in class or in office hours that she thought was too simple she would tell you "you should know that" or "why are you taking this class." She was frequently up to 15 minutes late for class or ranted to us about her parking situation instead of teaching. Horrible attitude about teaching. DO NOT TAKE!!
I was required to take this class, and I am going to be honest, I knew it would be hard, but not this hard. Dr. Woodland understands Calculus so well, but the way she teaches is extremely confusing. She goes on tangents, and the tests are graded by the department not her. You will miss more points on a test for things that you didn't even learn.
Professor Woodland made math way more difficult than need be. Quickly flies through lecture powerpoints that are hard to follow and don't really teach you anything. Exam reviews aren't like exams and exams are always harder than homework and in class problems. She randomly has a quick temper and will yell at you if she doesn't like your question.
Terrible at explaining things in a way you would understand. You will learn more in the drill. Nothing prepares you for the exams really, she doesn't make them, just grades a question or two on each exam. Don't take this class unless math comes easy for you, or you don't mind studying a ton.
I hardly ever went to lectures because they made me sleepy and bored or just annoyed at all the emphasis on theory instead of practice. Since attendance is mandatory I advise you go to class and pretend you care. Then go home, open your textbook, and just practice practice practice. That's the only true way to master Calculus 1.
Dr. Woodland is a great teacher. She almost teaches you like you are a 10 year old but it makes it easier if you are new to calculus. The class is very fast paced, but she makes quirky jokes and is always willing to backtrack to answer questions or clear up any confusion. She also allows you to argue for points back on your tests which is helpful.
She is terrible. I could not stand her at all. My peers who had another prof in the same classes were doing things so much easier. She likes to test you on the hardest version of the concepts and is not forgiving!!!
Dr. Woodland is one of those professors that students tell you to avoid when you are choosing classes. I will say that she is an acquired taste however I had her for calculus two, loved her class and opted to take her again for calculus three. If you like her teaching style you will miss her when she is gone. Would definitely take her again.
Dr. Woodland is one of those professors that students tell you to avoid when you are choosing classes. I will say that she is an acquired taste. Calculus two is one of the toughest classes in math and I wouldn't want to have any other professor for it. She was available for questions and would always give it to you straight no sugar coating.
Maybe in person she would be ok, but online is terrible. She doesn't know how the technology works, took forever to upload the syllabus, seems to constantly have an attitude with students, her lectures usually don't make sense but if you ask her a question she will catch an attitude.
This teacher is awful and should not be allowed to teach another class again. She consistently ignores all and any emails sent by students. She won't give you a syllabus or exam schedule. She says she'll post something and just "forgets." She takes off random points with no real explanation. Her lectures are all over the place.
She is the absolute WORST. I highly recommend to stay away from Dr. Woodland. She is unprofessional, unorganized, rude in during lectures, and is very bad about replying back to her emails. If I could give her no stars I would.
This professor was the most unorganized professor I have ever had. She's very smart, but she admitted she cared more about her calc 2 class than ours. She never had a plan for the semester, every assignment got postponed, and she was constantly behind on grading. Never received a syllabus as well.
Avoid Dr. Woodland at all cost. She didn't post a syllabus until a month after class started, takes at least a month to grade tests, skips Friday lectures very often, is not good at teaching, doesn't put in any homework grades until the end of the semester, says she will do something and then doesn't.
Professor Woodland is a very nice lady but fails to put concepts into understandable terms. CAL III is hard enough without having to attempt to decipher her notes on the fly every day. Your best bet is to read the book and get ready to learn 95% of the material from drill. (Its the night before my final and I still don't have a class grade) :)
Do not take Dr. Woodland for CALC III - there are plenty of other great professors. Dr. Woodland is very unorganized, wastes class time, cancels lectures without additional help. If you are moving on to higher level math/engineering, steer clear of this professor.
I genuinely don't think that Dr. Woodland is a bad professor. She knows how to explain things pretty well, to my experience. Although this is true, I have genuinely never met a professor so rude and bitter. Her side comments are terrible, and she treats questions as if they are stupid (even though she asks for questions). Take someone else.
Cal 3. Don't think she handled the switch to online very well. Either very unorganized or didn't caregrades for last normal exam weren't in until the day before final, syllabus came a month late, and she messed up test questions. Pretty good at explaining topics/giving mnemonics, but often condescendingly snarked. But we had tons of time on exams.
Janet is not only a bad professor, but also a terrible person. She told a special needs kid to ask about her mouse clicks after class when it was giving him a sensory overload. I would rather put my pp in a toaster than take her class again
Took Cal III remotely so take the lecture experience with a grain of salt. Dr. Woodland is a disorganized and inefficient lecturer. Remote lectures were so difficult to follow, I gave up and ignored them. Just do the assigned homework, recommended textbook problems, and participate in drill.
Bad Professor Overall. Does not get grades in on time, and does not cover content most of the class. Woodlands online teaching is a mess with constant sloppiness when teaching. Admitted in class once that she was lazy.
Her lectures are pointless and don't explain anything within a reasonable time. She speaks in typical gaslighting tropes, such as how she will protect her students from the rest of the math department despite being inaccessible outside of class time. She rarely updates grades, so it's impossible to gauge where you stand in the class.
Dr. Woodland is very unorganized, inaccessible to students, and wastes a large portion of lecture each day. Deadlines are always shifting. As for the actual assessments, they arent terribly hard. Avoid at all costs if you want a deep view of the content.
It has been three years since i took cal 2 with janet woodland and i just woke up in a cold sweat from having a nightmare about her
She could care less about wasting your time (shows up late or spends half the class time talking),not efficient in any grading, a lot of the time is unsure about important dates for tests, quizzes, and her lectures are hard to follow. Most likely will not respond to your email either in the span of a day. Not a professor that has frustrated me more.
She gets more frustrated as the semester goes on. She doesn't work with you very well when it comes to helping you improve your grade.
She is probably one of the most frustrating teachers I have had. She complains to use about how none of us ever complete the reviews days before the test, however she refuses to spend the time to put all our grades in one spot, so therefore no one in the class knows our grade. She gets angry when we ask to know our grade.
Had her 3 years ago, Spring '20. I am a math senior now, so I can confidently say that she was the worst math professor I've had. Rude; unclear expectations. Would rant about tardiness and then be tardy (oopsie!). When the pandemic started and classes were cancelled/online, we received no word from her for three weeks. Avoid her if possible.
this chick doesn't even go off the slides. she has a bad habit of ranting on and just writing random information on the board.
I thoroughly enjoy learning and doing math. Regardless, by far the worst math teacher I've ever had. If you're not particularly interested in learning the subject, and the grade you earn means nothing to you, then her lectures can be very entertaining; those of you who have an appreciation for situational irony will definitely enjoy her teaching.
I would recommend taking Dr. Woodland's class if you desire a little entertainment to start your day. She is SO silly and goofy. The only way you can make an A in her class is if you're even sillier and goofier (i.e you do textbook reading and watch other profs recorded lectures). She's not the best Cal II lecturer, but I have never laughed harder.
Woodland lectures over the why and not so much the how. She has a lack of examples due to explaing the why, which is her job as the professor, explain the why to the student. The severall homework problems provides enough examples, she is amazinlgy supportive in office hours. She roots for the student and wants you to have a fighting chance.
Coming to class is worthless. It was a waste of time because she doesn't go through examples and she is very scatterbrained, comes to class late, and goes over time. She skips over important content and encourages you to watch the other professor's video. I made an A, but not because of her. She is helpful one-on-one, but not everyone has the time.
Comes off as strange but as the class progressed I saw the value of her teaching methods - she explains why the math works and also gives us the "most strategically lazy" way to do it. Plenty of office hours and is pretty entertaining. However: She is always behind, never posted her own syllabus, and does a poor job of keeping blackboard current.
She is a fun person, but not a good professor. She is inconsistent with homework, constantly changing due dates and problems. My class did not have any grades posted until the Wednesday before stop day. The whole semester, she was ontime to class probably twice. She made the class and content more complicated than necessary.
I had Woodland for Cal II. Cal II a very tough course. However, the math department, and Woodland herself, handles the subject in the best way that a tough subject can be. The grading criteria is very helpful, the homework problems are very relevant. The lecture is a little everywhere, but she's very fun and chill in office hours.
The lectures were generally okay, but usually actually learned content in drill.
Definitely intimidating at first, but you'll soon find out just how passionate about math she is! She gets real excited sometimes and will go off-book, but she will always make sure that you are prepared for exams. Chapters 10 & 11 are TOUGH, large time commitment, lots of homework, attendance mandatory, and the drill leader was knowledgable.
Lectures usually left me confused, and the way ideas and concepts were presented seemed disorganized. I often felt that I was missing the bigger picture for what we were learning, and that would make me feel very behind. The content wasn't that difficult in hindsight, but it did not always seem so in the moment.
Cal 2 is a very difficult class and Dr. Woodland and the rest of the Cal 2 staff did not make it any easier. During her lectures, most people had no idea what was going on. I learned almost everything from YouTube videos. There are no curves on the tests, but our lowest test score could be replaced by the final
actually one of the weirdest and rudest professors ever. she has no compassion although she acts like a chill and nice person she is rude and has a lot of attitude. she gives an unnecessary amount of homework and teachers the class like the students are 5 years old
Janet woodland is pretty cool, she always kept me engaged in classes and I actually liked her teaching style the most out of any lecturer I have had. Honestly, I think most people at the university are just entitled and lazy. No wonder yall failed.
The class is in its second week. And for some reason she can go from playful to borderline irate. She's smarter, and because of that she gets short when we don't understand, and her instructions aren't clear. Certain behaviors in class make her angry easily, and after she didn't give proper instructions, emailed us upset for not reading her mind.
I genuiunely pay attention to everything she says in class, but her explanations make everything much more complicated than it ever needed to be. Also, I have never been asked to show my work in the way she asks, and doesn't provide examples for what she wants. Also, she goes from topic to topic with little explanation and is hard to follow.
I didn't get my grade in the class until the Friday before finals and thought I was failing the whole time and was going to have to drop the class. Lectures were confusing and she takes really long to get into them. I also didn't learn anything from her lectures and taught myself the whole course. She is also pretty mean. I would not take her.
Professor Woodland's Cal 2 class is a wild ride - her lectures are entertaining but sometimes disorganized. The content is challenging, but Unstuck AI and the textbook were essential for staying on top of it.
She is scattered and all over the place. Everyone always seems lost during the lectures and I have to teach myself everything on YouTube. There was no syllabus, assignment or topic list, or important dates calendar. Without these things I never knew what topic we were covering, what direction the class was headed, when tests or quizzes were.
Scattered lectures - she stands up and works a couple problems for an hour then dismisses class, I often left more confused than when I walked in. I learned mostly from online resources and gave up going to lecture around October. Once I gave up on going to lecture, my test average improved by 4 percentage points.
I went to two classes and then dropped the class entirely. I could not understand what we were talking about for the life of me. She seems like a very nice person, but I could not follow her teaching style. Very scattered. Also said that she wouldn't count us present unless we went to the whiteboard and did problems in front of the class.
I'm sitting here dwelling on the strong emotions I'm feeling. To put them into words is difficult. Anger? Malice? Hatred? Janet doesn't teach. Instead, she stands in the front of the class writing and babbling, turns around, then goes back to the board. She post some help for studying, but overall she's just a mean old lady who needs to retire.
Dr. Woodland jumps right into examples with minimal explanation of the base concepts for each topic. While it works for a lot of early Cal 3 topics, it is not helpful when it gets to the end of the year and heavy content like line/surface integrals and big theorems show up. Cal 3 was a breeze until the final exam which was required and cumulative.
This lady is hands down the worst professor I have ever had. She just comes to class 5 minutes late, throws random stuff up on the board and rambles, and then leaves. She was so bad it makes me think that all of the positive reviews on here are left by her to boost her rating. Avoid this lady if you can help it, she is horrible.
She does a lot of yapping. She wanders through lectures, occasionally saying something helpful. The first 3 tests are easy, and give you a false sense going into the final. The final was extremely difficult. I was at an A all year and was destroyed by the final, worth 30%. All of the quizzes and homework are pretty easy, which is nice.
Janet Woodland is the opposite of the kinda of math teacher you need. She gets distracted during lectures and tends to talk about anything but the required material. Very hard to access through email, and has a short temper. Taught myself almost everything through the homework and youtube. If you can skip this professor DO IT!
PHD AND FOR WHAT? MATH IS A WHY PROBLEM. "WHY AM I MAKING THE EXPONENT (-) ? WHY AM I MULTIPLYING THESE 2 NUMBERS TOGETHER?" JANET WILL NOT EXPLAIN WHY YOU DO SOMETHING. SHE WILL ONLY TELL YOU HOW TO DO SOMETHING. EXTREMELY RUDE CREATURE AND COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW A CLICKER WORKS, PHD BTW. ROOMATE HAD HER FOR CAL 2 AND SAID THE SAME THING. AVOID.
Not nearly as bad as all her reviews make her seem. Her lectures can, at times, be really confusing but once you go home and do the homework things start to come together a bit more. She's not the nicest with answering questions which can be intimidating but overall she's far from a bad teacher and if you go to class and study you'll be fine.
She is so rude and awful at teaching. I would have to go home and reteach everything myself. She writes so fast and erases everything and if you ask for help she says you should've been paying attention. Barely got a B. Do not take her
Just do NOT take her if you have the choice.
She has a short temper. She is a pretty light grader as long as you show your work. She gets off task very easily and writes everything she says out loud on the board. It is really hard to follow her lectures, so have another way to learn things because you won't learn from her.
do NOT take her class, attendance is mandatory, she lectures but is horrible at explaining things. You have 2 projects to do and she gives you 0 class time. she has a short temper and is so rude.
this professor is the goat, would take this class again, generous grader
I had to teach myself all the content. No extra credit. You have to go to class there are lots of clicker points. Tests are hard. If you have no previous calculus knowledge you are pretty much doomed.
Don't take her unless you have no other option. When she explains things they make no sense & she would show up to class quite frequently saying that she did have anything to teach us today, and just start writing random problems on the board. She can be a sweet woman, but she also has a temper & seems to not care if her students succeed or not.
She's alright. I don't think she's a great lecturer and she has a quiet voice. She posts 3-4 videos online for each unit that are VERY helpful. She's also a very generous grader and dropped two quiz grades as well as three weeks worth of clicker points. I hate math, but if I had to take another math class, I'd want to be in her class.
It is hard to take notes due to the disorganized nature of her notes, which often get erased over time while she is still taking them. During her practice problems in my lab, she would sometimes get the question wrong when she explained the process. It came to the point where I had to learn the material myself. Have a tutor if not good at math.
