Good prof in that he actually does problems on the board. Easy tests (if you go over and do the problems in his handouts) w/ lots of bonus questions. HW and attendance boost the final grade.
Exams: half theory questions, half problems. Memorize handouts, get an A. Started with 9 quizzes, but now only one, hw making up the rest, drop 2 scores. Three non cumulative exams 25% each, quizzes/hw 20%, 5% attendance. Extra credit up to 6%. Nice guy
helpful if you ask. lectures used to demonstrate problems. useful but sometimes unclear when teaching theory. tests not hard, theory questions from handouts, memorize. test problems from homework, with different numbers. lots of bonus questions. hope he teaches other finance classes
this class is not bad..
He is a very nice guy. Fun, and accepts his mistakes. Very helpful if you ask. Like motivated students. Gives HW instead of weekly quizes. Drop 2 lowest HW. Handouts are GREAT. 3 exams. Final non cumulative. Great teacher. I really recommend him. :)
so if capital structure is debt heavy, EPS goes up..good news. but more debt means more risk..bad news..so choose structure that maximizes share price...great professor
The class is boring to begin with. But he is the best teacher you can take this class with. He is very helpful. If you are interested, you can buy the book and the calculator (financial) for a real deal of $130 for both. Email me at [email protected]
i disagree with a past review. some test problems have the exact SAME numbers as the homework.
Mr. Cho is an excellent teacher. He really cares about students' learning. Encourages students to ask questions. Easy to follow lectures. Easy exams + lots of bonus points. Take him!!!
Professor Cho is an incredible teacher. He will walk you through a problem so that you understand it. You do though have to put some time into the homework. Most of the exam questions come from it anyways so might as well learn how to do it. Other than that, an excellent teacher who is always there to help you when you need help.
HEADS UP HE HAS A THICK AZN ACCENT. CANNOT UNDERSTAND ONE WORD. HE LECTURES REALLY BAD THEN EXPECTS PEOPLE TO RESPOND. HE PICKS ON PPL. & IF N01 ANSWERS HIM HE GETS ROLE SHEET 2 PICK ON PPL PERSONALLY HE CANNOT TEACH AND PICKING ON PPL IS UNECESSARY. MUST BE A BAD SEMESTA 4 HIM. OVERALL BAD.ACCENT CANNOT TEACH HE WAS A JERK DA FIRST DAY
People who gave him bad feedback are just LAZY learners. If you go over all materials before exam, you will be fine. He teaches very clearly and is very helpful(if you are not too shy to ask him questions). HW are hard, but similar HW Q will be on exams. TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!
dont buy the book buy the chp online. hes an okay teacher not so clear because of the accent requires a booklet with has prior exams cost $9, HARD hw its fiance. what can u expect. hes not my favorite i only got a B due to his booklet which had samples of his exam and not his teaching style
People who think Cho sucks are going to be ringing me up at Walmart when they graduate. Sounds like people who don't like him are lazyass people who can't understand accents. Good luck trying to find a silicon valley company WITHOUT them. He's not hard if you study his old exams. They are the SAME as new ones.
GREAT teacher. Students who are saying that he is BAD are the LAZY ones who never show-up to class nor does any work. He really cares about his students and will explain the material 100 times if necessary. Study guide and book is essential. HW is collected often and his TA does a GREAT job correcting them. His accent is NOT a problem. TAKE HIM!!!
He might be a little hard to understand at times, but he is a very understanding professor. Homework everyday, exams are easyy, LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT on Exams. Finance is up to, if you do the problems and study. Your good!
Great teacher. He collects HW every class and correct them in detail - good way to find out our weaknesses for the exam. HW are easy if you come to class and follow the material. Exams are easy, just like HW and tons of extra credit. Great Teacher. Cares about his students and is very flexible if you show interest. He Rocks!
Comes off as hard at first. Grades HW and quizzes tough, but midterms are easy and he provides a lot of extra credit. An A is very achievable in this class. He's a good guy too.
Awesome teacher. Tips to succeed::: 1.) Attend class, you learn 95% materials from the lecture 2.)Do your homework, you get points and many quizzes are based on your homework... If you do these two things, EASY "A" This quarter over 50% students received above 90% as their overall grade and only two people failed. FAIR FAIR TEACHER
This professor is very new to teaching; I'd avoid his class for a few more semesters if possible. He's still figuring out class management. Very boring lectures, too.
Cho is VERY inconsistent in his teaching methods. Looks very confused very often. Would be an easy enjoyable class but many times book questions did not mirror in class exercises and Cho was oblivious. Nevertheless, bonus problems on quizes helped and everyone failed the final so it was curved big time. Got an A, but had to work for it.
I had no idea what Cho was saying in class. He has a very thick accent and left the class confused. The subject isn't too difficult but he makes it harder than it should be. His exams are exactly the same as his workbook. Attendance is mandatory or you'll lose points. Follow is guide and you will be fine.
Took during summer school. Was a bit stressful because it is a hard subject, but he made it easier to understand. You do have to study to do well. Tests were similar to past ones he gives to study off of, so study those. During summer you can't be lazy. He's a nice guy and great teacher to take for this hard subject. Take him.
Professor Cho class is pretty EZ if you pay attention in class.
avoid taking this class. he isnt clear on what he is teaching and the homework is different from his class lectures. there isnt any extra credit and no curve.
Ignore all the good comments, those students dont know what they are talking about. He doesnt give out any extra credit and there isnt any curve. if your doing bad in the class then that is the end of you. just accept your bad grade. not worth trying for a D in the semester.dont take his class. there are better and clearer professors other than him
Just finished the class fall'09. Yes there is some extra credit on the exams and a bonus extra credit HW assignment which helped a lot. Two exams worth 20% each, a project (easy) worth 10%, HW 10%, attendance 10%, quizzes 30%. Not an easy class but overall good professor and good class.
Taking him is the best mistake I made in SJSU. Avoid him if you can. Luckily it is an optional class. This professor has accent and really hard to understand. The textbook is no use. boring class. take 172B, 173C, 174, or 177 instead. he is the only one teaching this class. quizzes and exams are really hard. Avoid X 1000000.....
avoid him. 25% each on midterm and final, 25% project, 10% quiz, 8% quizzes and 7% attendance. no curve. hard grader. hard to earn more than half points from project and average score of exam is 68%... it means average of class fails.
Accent but very understandable. Mandatory attendance. 1 midterm, 1 final, 1 stock project, homework and quizzes. The hardest part of this class was the quizzes. He doesn't teach half of what is in the quizzes, you end up looking in the book or online.
overall, he is a good professor. He is flexible, and understands his students situations and concerns. It was hard to understand him in the beginning due to his accent. Definitely, this class is tough especially for those who have no knowledge of option and futures. I would suggest, please take this class only if needed. Midterm was little hard, bu
this class is consist of 1 midterm, 1 final, online quizzes, a group project and hwk from time to time. his quizzes are hard but his exam are easy. i don't about now, but for my semester he curved the final by 16% and the midterm 5%. His teaching can be better but if he fits your schedule then take him if not he's not worth the trouble.
nah.... stay away from this professor!
I can attest that he is clearly the only professor one will come across who demonstrates professionalism and leadership traits. His zeal and genuine compassion to better not only his students but anyone around him is unmatched. It was/is more than an honor to have him as a professor, mentor, coach, and approachable subject matter expert.
Not a graduate level teacher by any means. No case studies or real world finance examples. The class consists of lecture based entirely on his "reader" (that's written in VERY poor English, by the way), and heavy use of a financial calculator. Very tough grader too - 25% off the HW assignment for one small math error.
Finance spring 2011. Nice teacher, quiet demeanor. English could be better, but he knows his stuff. Formulas are provided for test, just do the hw and you're set. Practice quizzes are a great help, do them every time. He may take off "25% off the hw for a small error" but what does it matter if the assignment is only worth 4 pts to begin with
Great teacher. If you do the homework, the class isn't hard. Quizzes are online. 1 midterm, 1 final and 1 project which takes about 4-5 hrs to do. Great at explaining the material, but he does have a heavy accent. Sometimes doesn't explain the problems all the way through, but if you have the book you should be fine. (book is EXPENSIVE though)
Thick accent. Tries his best to teach students but often confuses them. Quizes are online and are sort of hard. Tests were easy if you did the quizes. Final wasn't so bad and final project took a while to do. None of the tutors had him before so the material was a tad bit different from other 170 professors.
Cho is a good professor. Although attendence is mandatory, the copy of the textbook, not the workbook, ultimately taught me most of the material. Some tough grading on hw, but you can get confusing problems done at the beginning of class. Exams are easy with study guide and review sessions. Make sure you follow instructions on project.I Got an A
Teaches the problems step-by-step. You have to go to every class. If you do the HW and don't miss class, you should get at least a B.
First exam is super easy. Second one is super hard.LOL. Go to class everyday and study hard for the second exam.
Excellent professor, goes through the material step-by-step. Very helpful, but has a strong accent so it was a little hard to understand him at first. You get used to it though. 2 midterms, 1 final, homework almost everyday.
He has a heavy accent, but he is a very nice guy and funny at times. The best way I learn is by doing the homework. Textbook is a must have. He lectures out of a workbook, which is ok. Try to read the chapter or do the homework before the next lecture; otherwise, you can easily be confused.
The material is somewhat difficult. You need to do the hw and read. He has an accent which makes it difficult to understand. Being non-native speaker myself I had a very hard time understanding what he was saying. Bottom line is, you need a professor with high English level to be able to explain the material better.
the material was hard to get, but he is willing to help if you ask him. you don't need the textbook
Cho is a good prof. but it is a hard course. 17 hw (15%), 6 quizzes (15%), 1 mid. (30%), and 1 final (30%). Don't buy textbook. Mul. choices tests are based on his course reader, your own notes, his reviews, and quizzes. Attendance is mandatory(10%). He gave us lots of extra credit each test (up to 13.5%) Fin. calculator is needed. Got an "A" (98%)
Nice guy but not an effective teacher. He makes many mistakes on lectures, notes, and calculations. His exams are so so and you need to put a lot of effort in class to get good grade. Give 1 extra credit opp. 2 group projects takes a lot of time so choose team wisely. Hw is online & the book is not good at all. Better off using his upload D2L notes
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! He was the worst professor I have ever had. Heavy accent, disorganized lectures/notes, workbook has many errors, study guides only cover 60% of the tests, and he does not curve grades.
His English comprehension is very poor. His accent is not so bad after the first week, but don't ask questions with complicated words, he won't understand. Avoid if possible,it is very frustrating that we have to pay tuition for his class, SJSU should be embarrassed. He has no real world application knowledge of his material. I learned w/o his input
Horrible teacher. Can't understand him well because of his accent. Tests are hard, most people got a D or below. He teaches things not in the book. His course reader has so many grammar mistakes. I don't understand why he's a teacher. Doesn't care about the class at all.
Cho is pretty easy. The guy below that says he got a d must be retarded because he curved the mid term test a whole letter grade. The guy might want to switch majors lol. Cho is not going to hand out As and doesn't care what people think about him but if you try an A isn't hard.
Good use of examples. - Interesting cases. - Project was a good mix of individual/group effort. Liked the way we were supposed to divide it up. - Engaging class. -Helpful and responsive to questions.
I think we need more teachers like Professor Cho. he is one of my favorite teachers and I actually learned a lot while taking his class.
Attendance is mandatory to get A. Tips: take good notes!
He's a good teacher. I liked him, and he's helpful if you go to his office hours. I also had a classmate help me a bit
Professor Cho is the man. He is strict yet very fair. He wants people to focus on the lectures but he is very helpful in preparing the exams and doing the group projects. You will learn a lot in his class. I highly recommend him. He also lectures from a consolidated workbook which focuses on the important topics in the chapters.
Three exams. Ten quizzes (top 8 counted). Group project. Curved final. - ATTEND CLASS. Take notes. Equation steps are written on the board. - REVIEW QUIZZES. Gives step by step solutions after they close. - DO THE STUDY GUIDE. Every question on this study guide will be on the test; only numbers change. Exam 1: 94%, Exam 2: 98% Final: 98%
I would NOT recommend this teacher: -Has a very thick accent and is difficult to understand. - His own book and notesinstructionsexam reviews have mistakes. -Does not help with team conflicts and takes sides!-Course material is very interesting and is a MUST if you are a Finance major. Take it with a teacher who knows how to teach! Stay Away!
Investment Analysis is a very interesting topic so take it with someone who will actually teach it. His accent is extremely thick so very hard to comprehend and he has poor no teaching skills at all. Everyone had high scores for midterms, everyone failed the final BIG TIME.
Strict and by the book. Follow his instructions to the T and you'll pass. Try not to miss class as he goes over calculations for problems that will show up on Exams. I enjoyed his class a lot and appreciated the time he put into the lecture book bound notes: helped me learn a lot. Group projects were hard but choose a solid group you'll be fine.
Absolutely horrible professor and not sure how he got hired to teach. You can hardly understand what he says and on top of that he doesn't understand his students either, so don't bother asking him questions. He complicated simple concepts and you basically had to relearn everything he lectures on by yourself.
Professor has a heavy accent and i could hardly understand him. He has very unorganized notes and would constantly make errors that made taking notes such a daunting task. It sucks that i will have to go thru him to graduate because he is the only professor teaching 172A. AVOID if possible.
He drops your lowest quiz. Must put in work! Expect to ask for help. He tells you exactly what is on the test.
The first half of the class is incredibly easy. If you take it along side 173A you will be surprised at just how easy it all is. Sometime around after the first midterm the work gets much more difficult. The final exam was quite possibly the most difficult test I have ever taken. My grade dropped a whole 8%. Buy the reader. No need for textbook.
Professor Cho is a great professor! His lectures are very clear and contain everything you need to know for the midterm and final, so you must come to class! Assigns 3 case studies which you work on in groups. They helped me understand the material better and were fun to do! Final is more difficult, so study! Overall this class is very interesting!
Great Professor! Must attend class because his lectures are extremely helpful! Helps explain difficult concepts in an easy to understand way. I learned so much and it is my favorite finance class! The assignments & quizzes help in practicing for the exams, especially the math parts! I definitely recommend taking this class for sure! So interesting!
Professor Cho is cool, smart and a good teacher. His class is very interesting to learn about investment. He welcomes any tough question about investment and gives you a practical view of it. The 3 cases are also very helpful to understand the concepts. His lectures and book will help you a lot in the exams. Highly recommend this class.
Attendance is mandatory as he records attendance. He's the only one who teaches 172a so you really have no choice. Not hard class at all. Don't need the book at all but if you want it, it's easily downloaded as PDF online for free . Final was curved . He has a accent it's ehh mostly understandable. Try and pick good group
buy the reader, go to class, and pick a good team. the study guide he gives for the for the midterm and final leave no surprises.
Great professor. It took a while to adjust to his accent, but Cho and Campsey are some of the most knowledgeable professors I have ever met in Finance. If you are looking for an easy A, go somewhere else. If finance is your passion, Cho is the man to learn from. ALSO!!! Participate and keep up with your participation grade. It's 10% of your grade.
Some group and individual assignments. No presentation. REALLY smart guy. Likes to challenge his students. If you want to learn this guy is a must take! Average score for the midterm was 60% so he curved everyones grade. Always willing to help. This is just a tough class with a lot of information. He gives a study guide so just follow that
Professor Cho is a fair grader. You must show up to class to get participation handouts which are a decent part of your grade. Well, structured course reader. The only real negative is his accent can make him pretty hard to understand sometimes
- take his class if you really want to understand investment side of finance and for personal knowledge on financial securities and how they work for your portfolio - doesnt seem approachable at first but I can tell he has a passion for his work and will help - WILL PUT YOU TO WORK BUT HEY ITS COLLEGE - book is littered with small errors
Amazing teacher. Just need to buy course reader like $20. The class consists of like 9 assignments (1 problem type stuff). 1 midterm and a final. He does curve a little. attendance is mandatory. I'd take him for every class if I could. He teaches so clear and in depth. Study guides for exams are given. No project or presentations
Amazing professor. Class attendance is mandatory. You can tell he knows what he teaches and he's passionate about it. Professor Cho. gave us a review guide before the midterm and it was exactly like the exam; he literally gave us 90% of the answers for the test. "It's my gift to you Thank you for the gift. Hard not to get an A if you come to class
It's clear he knows a lot about finance, takes his job seriously and cares for the students. If you pay attention in class, go over the class reader, and take the time to learn the concepts, you'll be fine. If he doesn't know something, he'll admit it, figure it out and get back to us. A rare quality in most teachers. Would take again.
I would take all of my classed with him if i can. Such an amazing guy, great lecture. Im taking 172C next semester with hin
Unclear grading criteria. Avoid taking this professor at all costs if you can. Extremely difficult course for no reason.
Class was lecture heavy, but extremely informative. Definitely take his classes if you're wanting to learn a lot about finance and finish the semester with new skills and knowledge under your belt.
As long as you do the homework and go to class you'll be fine.
His class was pretty hard, so find a study group. The study group really helped. There were about 10 quizzes, 10 participation assignments, 7 assignments, 1 midterm, and 1 final. Ask him to curve the midterm or final, he usually will if you ask as a class.
Amazing professor. He will technically teach you just about everything you need to know in finance. I am glad I'm taking him in my last semester before graduation. He is very caring, helpful, respectful, and very knowledgable. I love his teaching style! Also,I really enjoyed reading the assigned papers and supplemental readings. Very informational!
Class was decent, lectures were informative but not engaging. Also, his accent makes it difficult to understand what is going on, which is not his fault at all, but is something to be aware of. 2 big group projects at the tail end of the semester, quizzes at the end of each chapter, midterm, final not cumulative. No curve. Cares about students.
a lil hard to understand at times but overall a good professor. Exams are 3-4 chapters long but are packed with information you need to know. solid choice
He is diligent in the subject but its hard to transfer that knowledge in lectures. His explanations in the course reader are not thorough and he expects you to know everything on the tests. The tests are not cumulative but they are heavy topics. The homework will take you forever if you dont pay attention in class, but its hard to understand him.
Took him over the summer for 170. His lectures gave all the info but were inefficient and boring, his accent makes it hard to understand at some points. I resorted to using the book and other online sources for the majority of this class. Easy quizzes and homework. The first test was not too bad, but the final was very hard. Overall okay choice
I took two classes with Professor Cho during my time at SJSU. Very knowledgeable about finance, and the quizzes and tests are taken from the homeworkstraightforward and kind professor. The lectures get boring, and it's easy to zone out, but his course readers have everything you need to get an A in the class.
Nothing against him as a Professor, but extremely hard topics. The concepts are great when you get them, but his accent is hard to understand at times. Really rushes past topics. 172A is MUCH easier, Make sure you do all assignments b/c tests make up a large part of your grade. Take him if you wanna learn derivatives, he is very knowledgeable!
He's a respectful, nice, and very smart professor. However, he is lecture heavy and it's so much info over-load. Plus his accent makes it hard to understand. You will need to study a lot on your own. Midterm + Final are worth 65% of your grade. Quizzes 10% 13% assignment (can be hard grader) and 12% for the fill-out participation worksheets.
He just changed the grading rules at the very end of the semester by himself. If he doesn't want to give you the grade you deserve, HE WILL NOT, everything depends on him. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF!!! The most awful and unrespectful professor I have ever taken. His accent makes everything more difficult to understand.
Professor Cho is one of my favorite finance professors. I had him for 172A and 172C, and although he can be difficult to adjust to at first, you will learn to appreciate his course reader, assignments, and resources which are highly revenant. If you are genuinely interested in finance, don't skip class, and do all the work, you will coast thru
I took professor Cho in this fall semester and he turned out to be one of my favorite professors. I learned a lot from him using the course reader and the handouts.
Accent is hard to understand like other reviews says but not that bad. Not strict on participation but sometimes he takes attendance. Every exam allows one half cheat sheet. Exam itself was difficult even with study guide but prioritize math problems and you'll be fine. Projects will help boost your grade so don't slack.
Dr. Cho is super caring and very knowledgeable about finance. Ask him questions, he'll love your innate curiosity! His projects are relevant within job interviews and work. Exams are difficult, but he provides an index card. Ensure quizzes and the Course Reader is studied a week in advance of exams, you should be fine.
Chill professor, attendance isn't mandatory. Group projects are useful. Workload isn't bad. Exams were fine with cheat sheet but averages were still low. To do well on exams: write entire study guide in detail, ALL quiz questions, and ALL handout questions and formulas on your sheet, and practice calculations the night before.
Super chill professor. The workload for this class is virtually non-existent. In-class handouts nearly every class, quiz every few weeks, and like 3 hw assignments the entire semester. Use quizlet for quizzes. To do decent on the midterm, just write all equations and important info from the course reader on your half-page cheatsheet.
Same structure as 172A except no case studies or individual projects (there is homework). Tries to explain things clearly but tends to kind of speed run lecture since there's so much content to be covered. It's not his fault, but the class is just really hard.
Great professor. No presentations or anything. Couple group projects which are not bad. The 2nd individual assignment is hard, start is as early as possible. Course reader is a big help, use it for quizzes and exams. Study the handouts, quizzes, and course reader and you will be fine. Allows cheat sheet for exams.
Lectures can be tough due to the professor's accent, but the material is informative. Stay engaged, use the textbook, and take advantage of helpful study tools like unstuck ai to excel. Overall, this class is worthwhile if you're willing to put in the effort.
To be completely honest I was not a fan of Professor Cho in anyway. His lectures are so fast and hard to follow with him rarely answering questions completely making other students in the class speak up to clarify. His guide video for hw assignment 2 was horrible and he hasn't updated his assignments or videos for projects in years.
He takes attendance and his class is very hard to follow if you aren't already a finance whiz. You have to know a lot about finance in order to pass his class or do a ton of self studying. Hard class, no homework but two individual assignments. First one is easy, second one is a very long excel project. Not a bad person, just hard material to learn
Mediocore would avoid. Lectures are super dry and drag towards the end of the semester. Quizzes and hw aren't hard if you use your resources*, but the course is test-heavy. Exam prep materials are completely useless, and you will have a vague idea or experience with concepts you studied for on exams. 70% of class material isn't even featured exam
4 total projects, 2-3 handouts a week, quiz for every chapter, one midterm and final exam. professor cho is a decent teacher, lectures are very heavy but showing up matters to actually understand the material. exams were like handouts/quizzes so just practice those. allows cheat sheet for exams.
Professor Cho is chill its just hard to understand his lectures because of the accent but he's very knowledgeable. Everything in the course reader and handouts are on the exams there are no curveballs. He takes attendance every class. Pretty average though projects can be a drag, but they are good for your resume
His accent is not hard to understand. Lectures can drag on but that's because he wants to make sure students really understand the topics. Exams were mainly conceptual so study the course reader really well and you will get a good score. The second individual assignment and the group project are tedious, make sure to start them early!!!
Class isn't as difficult as the previous reviews suggest. If I had any advice, study all handouts, course reader and quiz Qs to succeed. Practice calculations and focus on scoring well the on the midterm (90%+) it is MUCH easier than the final which is very content heavy and calculation based. projects aren't hard j follow directions precisely
Great projects to help you understand the material. Recommend starting the projects as early as possible they are very time consuming especially the excel one. Try to do good in the beginning of the semester on the first final and projects because the material gets harder later on. Study the handouts, quizzes, and course reader for the exams.
I am taking this class in FALL 2025. I have to say, the Professor got an Asian accent, especially a Korean one. Get ready to understand him, because if you don't, you are on your own. He uses Course Reader, which is about $25 from Maple Press—total of 4 exams, with an in-class lockdown browser.
Seems knowledgeable but very difficult to understand due to his accent, and his handwriting is very difficult to read. Test questions are more complicated than they should be. Overall had to self-study more than usual in order to pass.
lil bro's accent was insane, never knew what he said in class everyday cuz of it. I just pulled up in a ghost to bro's class to take a nap ngl but the class was light tho no offense you should b able to pass it with ease no cap bap tap lap map
