He is nice professor and he is knowledgeable on his topic. He gives lot of work such as homework, class practice assignments, Quizzes, and lot of extra credits too. He also drop a test. If you do all your works, you can get A.
Par for the course among physics teachers.
Very caring and great stories. Good at explaining real life circumstances. has funny jokes. Ridiculously hard tests, curved if the class does bad enough. Moves fast but stays on topics for more than one day, and reviews homework. You will never feel fully prepared but its possible to get an A
It is not an easy class. It requires work to do well. Do the homework (25% of your grade) and pre-lectures (they will help you a lot for the quizzes). Probably the best professor I had at PBSC. If physics is a big part of your major you need to take the this class as you will have a good foundation for later. Don't panic the first weeks. Attendance
If you need helps and you have a job, forget it. He does not meet with students outside of his posted office hours and this includes before and after class. Be prepared to get a C even if you get 9/10 or 10/10 on most of the labs and do ALL the extra credit. Quizzes every lab class and more work than can be completed in the time given!
Worst teacher ever, online mastering physics gives no hints and you only get two tries. Went to his office for help, he was not there and when he was he never helped sat there and expected you to solve it yourself His lectures are also very fast paced and he does not slow down. dont take him
Do not take him. He isn't clear on what you should focus on. Homework is completely different from lecture work. Isn't good at explaining himself. Seems like a nice guy but would never take him again. He brags about his withdraw rate which says a lot about the way he teaches
Very inspirational teacher, make you become interested in physics. however, lecturers are very fast, hardly to understand because it't really fast, just wish he could give more feedbacks.
Prof. Jang is just hard to understand. I know that physics would come with large amount of works but this was way too stressful. I took the class because I want to learn but he expected you to be super smart also and do all the problems -obey his rules/due dates without giving us any reasons. I was really regret but couldn't drop because money...
Pros: -theory -give extra credit -can be helpful if you ask for help Cons: -often spend like less than 5 min for a prob/ spend last few mins to solve one -spend time on theory+group discussion -masteringphysics with no hints. -always making it tough for you to study (?!) -tough grader - would not take again
The extra credit is good, but I had to read a lot on my own - not very easy to understand when he talks. He seems to be a little too motivated by what we think about him. He's polite though
Not clear grading criteria, confusing, he doesn't spend time to review exam, we don't even have time to study or prepare...
I can't teach myself that's why I paid for the class, but what I learned is just spend time alone try to figure out how to solve prob, ask others and they're just the same as me, goes over a problem too fast, sometimes doesn't even go over them, not explained clearly, should teach us how to do it rather than expecting us to do well on the exams
DO NOT take his class! His lecture is very hard to understand, all he does was solving the questions on the board by himself with HIGH speed and expect students to understand, he goes SUPER fast and WON'T wait for you. There were time i was asking question in class, he told me to ask another students instead of explaining to me. Go to Pb Garden
Consider another professor! Quizzes are graded out of three points and hell mark you off for the minor reasons (even if you get the correct answer) and give you 66%.labs are graded out of 10 points and he takes one lab manual from a person in your group and gives the whole group that grade. I didnt receive a grade above 7/10. Ruined my 4.0 GPA :(
I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR! He refused to clarify the lecture material when asked. He would tell us Ask the person next to you whenever someone asked a question. You only get 2 attempts to answer the online homework questions. His test were nearly impossible. Save yourself the stress, and just take another professor :(
I'm not giving out 1s to be mean; that is just what he deserves. Prof B can be a decent guy, but the fact that he doesn't care if you understand is unacceptable. He hardly knows english and definitely doesn't know how to teach. I EXTREMELY recommend switching teachers. Terrible teacher and doesn't seem to care if people learn from him.
If you really want to learn take him. He is tough, and he requires you to do a lot of work, but he teaches you how to get ready for higher division courses. If you are going for a physics or engineering major I highly recommend him.
By far the worst professor Ive ever had. He refuses to answer questions and hell tell you to go ask someone else. Only take him if youre fine with getting a C.
Dont take this professor. His lectures are useless and his exams are difficult. He flys through the course material without answering the students questions. He will not answer questions without telling you to look at your syllabus or lab manual and making you feel like an idiot. There is really nothing positive I can say about this man.
Knows his stuff and goes the extra length to help his students. If you are easily discouraged, want an easy class, have a full-time job, don't take him. Gives Saturday HW reviews, many office hours. I worked hard for it with a job. Don't expect your teachers to baby feed you everything :) Suggest you take calc 3 and diff eq beforehand if possible.
Gives you a lot of extra credit. Get ready to use six steps strategy if you dont used it, he will take lot of points off and also every thing he gives you, you have to solve it algebraically. The tests consist of five to six questions with different parts. Do the online hw and also the extra credits he gives online, it will help you. Good luck.
If you do homework and extra pl homework will help you pass the exams. I like his testing techniques.
He is one of the best professor that I've ever had. His lecture was not hard as some people said. If you really want to learn and want to build a good foundation for Engineering Major, he is WORTH for every penny. Tips : Focus on the lecture and spend time for your homework, you can pass the class with an A's. I highly recommend him.
IMO, he is a very good Physics professor that I've ever known! I highly recommend him for people who want to study Engineering major.
Worst professor I've ever taken. Ruined my 4.0 GPA. He flys through all the course material and gets mad when students ask him questions. He also writes his own reviews on rate my professor because there aren't enough students enrolling in his class. Take physics at the Boca or Jupiter campus they have better professors.
His grading can be weird sometimes, depends a lot on his mood and how he feels about the student. If the student isn't too good with physics but gets an answer right, they get A LOT of extra credit. If the student already understands the topic, a right answer is just that. He liked me a lot, so I managed to get a good grade, but not many others.
Typical angry short guy. Expect to watch him backtrack questions that are slightly difficult. Definitely need to be on his good side for the entire semester, you can get half of the questions wrong and still get 98%.
He is a nice Professor. His lectures are bits and pieces of whats in the book. Not necessary to by a book. The tests have nothing to do with the lectures, tests questions are the same ones on the online homework. Don't really have to pay attention just study the online homework questions for the tests and you will be good.
This guys acts like he is smart. Says he went to a good school and has a PhD. That may be true, but why is he teaching intro level physics at a community college? He gets mad when students asks him a question he cant answer. This guy is a joke.
He is one of the toughest professors i ever had. He knows his stuff, he is an alright funny guy, he don't do pop up quizzes no more. All of his homework is online, 2 questions out the online homework should be written and given to him in class. you are graded by everything in his class. AND NOT AVAILABLE OUTSIDE OF CLASS.
Professor Bang is one of the BEST professors I have ever had. If you don't want to put in the work, and do not participate in class, this is probably not the class for you. If you work hard, focus on lecture, do the homework, and ALL of the extra credit, there is no way you will not get an A. Cannot wait to have him again. Had him for lab awesome!
This is one of the best professors I have taken at PBSC. Professor Bang is super intelligent and knows his material really well. If you are majoring in something STEM related then I highly recommend you take Professor Bang, you will not only learn a lot of physics, but you will learn how to problem solve as well.
Great Professor if you are planning to major in an engineering field. He will help prepare you to learn how to problem solve and become an all around better professor. If you want an easy A, then wouldn't suggest taking him. But if you want to be a better student than I highly recommend this professor.
He is very strict that's why maybe most of the reviews here are bad. But overall I don't see any problem with him because he makes you work for your grade which is I think the whole point of going to school lol. If you are not willing to put any effort in studying do not take him because a 100% sure that you won't pass.
Prepares you for higher level courses, shows real life applicable examples in stem. Other than that, he has been the WORST professor I have ever taken. He is unhelpful in his office, his grading is NEVER consistent, and he is extremely rude. If you like to go to class, take notes, and go home, take him. I learned more from the book than him.
Rather than allowing you to use the formulas to find an uncertain answer, Professor Bang wants you to analyze the problem and solve it algebraically. His questions in class are usually the conceptual problems that lead you to the formulas and how to use it. He expects to see those steps on the exams. Giving a lot of extra credits generally.
Professor bog is a really challenging Professor if you get on his good side you will do extremely well
Professor Bang is AWFUL. As a 4.0 student I know how to put in work for my classes. He practically got off on failing myself and other good students. He told the class that his one credit lab was the single reason a student had their acceptance from Georgia Tech rescinded with the biggest smile on his face.
No one will get higher than a C. Professor doesn't teach, all labs are man made prelabs. Randomly selects one lap book out of the group to grade the group. Doesn't answer questions. Hard and picky grader ever. Please for the love of God dont get this class unless you are fluent in physics or have less than 2to1 other classes. Good luck.
Worst prof ever. You will put in all ur effort and maybe get a C. I have taken this class before and he is easily the worst teacher. Just know you will not even come close to an A in this class. Dont take any classes w this guy. He will make u hate learning physics. Do yourself a favor and find another teacher. He will make u regret taking it.
be careful because he writes his own reviews!! hes horrible and needs to not teach. save yourself the agony. you will find yourself trying to do assignments just to get a grade instead of learning. and he will grade extremely hard so its not worth it.
Wow. Ive had some pretty bad professors but he takes the cake. Its almost like he likes to see kids struggle. Also, its quite easy to see that he writes his own reviews. They look too good to be true. Unfortunately, I fell for those good reviews when signing up. Save yourself the trouble and dont take it with him.
Definitely one of the worst professors that I have ever taken. In his lecture class, he teaches you by giving you the simplest of examples for each topic, then gives you the hardest possible questions of those topics on the tests. The questions from the homework that he has does help people prepare for his exams. Avoid at all costs!!!
It's pretty hard to write a review with only 350 characters, because I need more than 350 characters to describe how horrible this professor was. STUDENTS BE WARNED- this professor gives "examples" which he DOESN'T explain, he asks the students questions about information they've NEVER LEARNED, and he FLIES through the material. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Whatever you do.. save yourself the trouble and do not take this class. He's a tough grader, gives little feedback, and a terrible professor. Instead of giving us homework to practice what we learned, he would give us homework on chapters we never went over. How are we suppose to do homework for something we never learned? The answer? We can't.
Okey so Im gonna be honest. Hes a tough grader and very test and lecture heavy. But I promise if you attend lecture and read the textbook it will all work out in the end. Im quite terrible at math like Cs at best and because of him I got a B in both lecture and lab. Honestly hes great and I feel like people down on him because hes tough
I was always comfortable with physics, but Professor Bang will make you absolutely despise it. Reading the textbook doesn't help, and he's the pickiest grader ever. No matter how hard you try, you'll end up with a C at best. He will give you homework that's due before you ever learned the subject. No one ever knows what to do in group sessions.
If yu have the opportunity to take another professor do it!!!!!!
Worst prof I've ever had. Doesn't answer questions. Exam ?s not based on HW or lecture examples, so who knows what to study. Somehow you get a 7/10 on everything, no explanation of where points were lost. During COVID online lab, no vid/simulation of experiment, just had to figure it out. Don't usually listen to these reviews, but STAY AWAY!
Homework is heavy. You have to do it his way or you will fail (no joke about that). Pay attention to his 6 step strategy. Have a working webcam. You have to post attendance 5 minutes before class begins (even though it shows online that we are there). Lots of group sessions. He sees you but you never see him. Take him and you will regret it.
His grading are very confusing. The syllabus didnt help at all. Though we have mathlab homework theres also an attendance question due in the beginning of each class with very little time. I did not know my grade until the end of the semester. DONT TAKE HIS CLASSS
Dont take his class! Really hard working through all of it and at the end homework is different from test, there is nothing you can do to improve. Dont loose your money
Don't take him trust me!
This guy goes out of his way to be unhelpful. 90% of our HW had little to do with what he discussed in class. I loved math because you could always figure out a way that works for you to solve a problem, but If you dont solve problems his way, he will fail you. Oh, Did I mention that he barely explains the way he wants you to solve? Awful Professor
If you got stuck with him like I was, be ready. His lectures are unclear. You'll do a lot of group work. Get your group members' numbers if you can. 3 absences is an instant F. With homework, brainly is your friend. Use his strategy or he will slash your grade. Use the formulas he gives you or he will slash your grade. Avoid if you can, period.
Prepare to be humiliated during his online classes if you even dare ask a question. If some of his class were observed by the dean, he would either get fired or get a warning. If you are trying to maintain a 4.0 to transfer and keep a good GPA, this class will take all your hopes of a 4.0 away. You WILL NOT get an A in this class. Forget it.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER! He is terrible at teaching and doesn't show even the slightest of care for his students even during the pandemic. I had a terrible experience with him, please don't take him.
His response to any question is "just figure it out" and "you should already know this". Wow! So informative and insightful. Do not take his 'class'.
Im about to graduate with an engineering degree. When I walked into Bangs class I knew nothing and I was in over my head. Yes hes strict, yes you have to work hard, but he WILL prepare you for university level classes. If it werent for Bang I wouldnt be where Im at today. You will work your butt off, but hes a huge wake up call.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER. I am a good student, and I like to study for all my classes, but with him it was like it didn't even matter because the homework are nothing like the tests, and the lectures are group assignments of something that he hasn't even taught yet. DO YOURSELVES A FAVOR AND DON'T TAKE HIM.
I will beg you guys to avoid taking his class. He is the worst professor I have ever seen. His lectures are very unclear and he flies through subject. He will give you an average of 3 minutes per question in exams and you will not be able to do it. I do not know how he keeps his job. Anyways, avoid failing yourself here and find another professor.
WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER TAKEN. grades is harshly and won't change your grade even if you submitted on the due date. received many 0/5 even though assignments were completed. second week into the class and I already want to drop out. he is god awful. save yourself the time and take someone else.
Just took this professor and loved the classes. He simplifies difficult exercises into easiness, always ready to answer questions. Very easy going and lenient on the attendance when taking it online. I didnt give my best to this class so I got a C unfortunately. Regardless, I strongly suggest taking him. :)
I took Professor Bang for 2048/49. He's an excellent Professor that challenges your understanding of the material, and it made me WANT to do better in Physics. Material wasn't easy obviously. Step outside your comfort zone and form study groups, go to the Physics Forums and ask questions. Learn to do Freebody diagrams and analyze problems!
He is just not a good teacher.
he has a very thick accent so sometimes you can barely understand what he is saying but to me, his class is not that hard. You don't have to do the homework it's optional but you use it for practice. for the test, if you write anything down related to the problem he will give you points for it.
Phy2049 is an almost impossibly hard class. Professor Bang knows this and as long as you try your best, you will get an A (every exam is curved). He was also a great lecturer and I was surprised at how much I learned about physics in general. I was a transient student from UF taking this class and was afraid of his reviews but am glad I took it.
Horrible professor
TERRIBLE PROFESSOR!! He is extremely petty for no reason. His lectures are not thorough at all. He keeps your grade anonymous so you will not be able to see your grade till you fail or pass the class. I have received 0/5 numerous amount of times for assignments I completed. If you leave after you complete a test he will give you a 0 for the test.
Very hard to understand. An accent reduction class might be helpful...for him
Terrible experience. He has absolutely no teaching skills and treats students like children. Classes last for 3 h w/o breaks, and it's exhausting. Exams with 50 questions (1:20 to complete) and lecture after that. If you don't want your GPA to be reduced, avoid him.
Possibly the worst professor I've ever had. He's not a bad guy, but somehow he made Earth Science difficult. It was a 3 hour lecture to where he gave absolutely no breaks. Tests were so difficult he continued to give a curve to the entire class for every. single. test. Has you write your own test questions (10 per chapter) and doesn't use them.
Lecture heavy. He asks questions in class that count for a grade but he just puts in random grades. Had a lot of 0's and he couldn't explain why other than the fact that they were those questions although I rarely got them wrong. Exams are curved. Lots of talking with no real help. Can't see your grade in the class until the end of the semester.
Heavy lectures which come with PowerPoints that you have to sometimes fill in because you don't have it. We answer questions in class for a grade from videos or from lecture. Grades are definitely curved even though the hardest part was starting from multiple choice to only fill in the blank. Very stressful class you have been warned.
If you want an easy class dont take Professor Bang. You have to study and do a LOT of homework, the tests are super difficult and basically decide if you pass or fail, there is a curve to them but you need to put in the work. The outcome that you get from his class is that you learn physics really well, probably better than other professors.
I really enjoyed this class. The Homework worth 10% of your Grade, but they are extra credit. There are 3 important keys that can help you succeed in this class: go to physics forums, do your best on the Homework, and use the 6 steps he will teach you in class. Dr. Bang is an amazing professor; his plan is to prepare you for the future. :)
Dr. Bang's class was very tough, but he rounded up, and the class got easier as the semester progressed. His lectures are very informative but quick and consist of a lot of writing to keep up, he is a great artist and will occasionally draw some funny diagrams on the board. I plan on taking more classes with Dr. Bang.
I took this class during a 6 week term in the summer as a transient student. Physics 2 in 6 weeks is very difficult, I'd recommend a 12 week course. Dr. Jang is passionate about physics, caring, and I really enjoyed this class a lot. To study, some classmates and I would solve problems on a whiteboard from the textbook after class everyday.
I took professor Bang 2048 class .His class is structured so that you learn, it gives you an extra 10 if you do the homework a lot of group work, the only thing that is a little difficult are the tests that are at a more complex level than in class, but if you study them you can pass them without a doubt, take it if you are in STEM. R
He thinks that we are in MIT or sumth. His in classwork always sumth that he has not taught yet. His tests are total bs. In undergraduate classes tests are should be doable after completing the homework and in class questions. But his test questions are far harder than test. do yourself favor dont take him.
This professor is terrible, do not taking him. He doesn't care about the students; he gives quizzes every class and does not allow you to use a formula sheets. Quizzes are super long and difficult and he want you to do it in 5 mts. He is very picky and want math to be done his way or he will give you a 0. He takes point off for everything.
The worst professor that I have ever had. Do not take him. He does not teach anything; he wants you to know the content by yourself and if you are not in his lecture class and you don't do the assignment how he teaches it, he will give you less credit, even if you have the right answer. If you are late 5 mts, he will give you a 0 on the quiz.
People like him should be allowed to teach. I did my best on this class, never in my life had a D, he literally takes point off for everything and does not have any empathy for their students. Being a student is hard already and trust me he will make it harder. I needed this class to graduate, and I will not graduate on time because of him.
Save yourself and do not take this professor, especially if your lecture is not with him. He takes points off for using methods derived from a different lecture even if the answer is correct. There is also a timed quiz at the beginning of every lab that is difficult to fully complete and not for lack of effort.
Worst professor ever didn't explain how to do problems and when questions asked never gave a straight answer. Harsh grader.
Extremely tough grader. Will lose 20% on quiz/10% on lab for EVERY MISTAKE(eg: wrong sig fig/omitting units in calculation) lucky I picked a good lab group but most groups seemed lost. Labs are intriguing but a lot of work and almost impossible to do everything perfectly. Do not take if you want an easy A or B
As his name implies Jang-Young Bang does in fact bang your grade
I have no clue why so many hate him. He is the kindest guy out there if you actually try to reason with him, he made the class easy and understanding, and I enjoyed his lectures; there are some points where he goes off-topic, but just review the book, and you'll get it down.
Felt my life force drain from my body before every test almost died would take again.
Goat, must study a minimum of 20 hours a week though
truly one of the professors of all time.
He's a great professor if you're willing to study outside of class. His lectures are a little convoluted but he does many practice problems and is open to questions. Very funny guy and I would take him again.
Bang managed to turn what should have been a straightforward course into an endurance test of patience and sanity. He treats genuine questions as personal insults, and his feedback seems designed to crush, not guide. There's a kind of art to how discouraging he is. If demoralization were a subject, he'd finally be qualified to teach it. RUN!!!!!!!!
Every lecture felt like watching someone confidently steer into a wall while insisting it's a shortcut. If your goal is to witness an academic train wreck in slow motion, congratulations, you've found your professor. Dr. Bang teaches like he's allergic to clarity. His six-step “process” feels like a cult initiation with worse lighting.
His mode of teaching requires critical thinking, practice, and dedication. If you are looking for a smooth ride wrong door. If you are looking to challenge and truly better yourself, jump in. ( I am on my way to failing his class, btw :) .) And nope, no bribery involved.
* A little editing on my previous comment, I realised that the last line could be taken out of context. Side note: He also provides multiple opportunities to grow and pass his class; the choice is yours.
His class is very hard. He will have small quizzes in class that depending on the grade track you choose, may or may not count towards your grade. Half of the quizzes are on things we never covered. What he teaches in class is much easier than what is on the test. Essentially, study alot outside of class, and his lectures will barely help on tests.
