The class material is hard, and the class goes fast, but she will do anything she can to help you get through it.
It is very hard and challanging but she is easily aviable to meet outside of class. And she goes really really fast.
Great teacher, will do what she can to help you understand
Cobb is an AMAZING teacher. Probably the BEST accounting teacher in TCU. She really knows her stuff! The class is very hard though, but you'll learn a lot! She's also ALWAYS there for help!
Professor Cobb is probably the best teacher I have had at TCU. Her class is difficult, but it forces you to learn the material.
Very good
Cobb is amazing If you are going to be fin or acct you should take her for intro fin acct. You will be happy you did later. Hard class, labor intensive, but she is with you the whole way.Make your grades early;Final is death. She is as fair as can be
Very difficult, but she's a great teacher. Ask questions and if you still don't understand make an appointment!
teaches really well. Expects a lot. Make sure you do your homework, it helps! Hard class but it's just a hard subject. by far the best teacher at Tcu. Very fair. Final is unexpectedly hard. She expects you to know the hardest stuff
Prof Cobb is THE BEST professor at TCU, hands down. She has been the CFO of a few companies, so she knows what she is talking about. She is very difficult, but if you put in the time, and GET HELP, you can get an A. I'd go with her over any professor.
Although most people think she's hard, she only wants u 2 stay on top of things. I managed to get an A in her class. I advice u to take her class if u really want to learn. If you are willing to work in her class, then ull have no problem gettin an A too.
Mrs. Cobb (Mrs. Brightwell) is excellent. I had her for Inter 1 & 2, and Adv Acct. Stay on top of your homework and study for the quizes. The finals are very hard. She will prepair you for the real world. I wish all my Professors were as good.
She knows what she is doing. The class isnt for everyone, lots of busy work. Lots of people drop. Tests seem hard, get good grades though.
I cannot say enough about her, she is so helpful, and really wants you to succeed. She has the interest of her students high in her regaurds. Expect to work hard, but you will love her.
Top five hardest class as TCU. From day one the work load is insane. She is a good teacher though and she bypasses the book. DON'T GET BEHIND!!
Awesome teacher, impossible class.
dude dont listen to these people. She is a killer. She will make sure that you will change your major.if you are taking her do not accept to take anything else.I promise.stay away from her
Not too found of her at this point... she has given us an insane workload, and then tells you what she wants on the papers, but leaves out details that she wants you to question. Then when she corrects the papers, she writes sarcastic remarks, like we are stupid. That's pretty condesending.
she is just insane. She expects that you are only taking her class.Does not tell what she wants in the assignments.DONT TAKE HER
We aren't all accounting geeks and that's what she thinks we are. The most ridiculous professor I have had here. Loves leaving out details and giving an insane load of homework. Also picky and anal with EVERYTHING.
Might as well go to TCC where for a lesser tuition you may actually learn something instead of simply memorizing. She leaves out all the important details and then questions you about those details on her exams. Nice person but worst teacher b/c unless you memorize everything youself, you wont pass
Cost is such an easy class but she makes it too confusing. DO NOT TAKE HER unless she is your last option and you have no other choice! She thinks her class is the only class that exists and there is something due EVERY CLASS. Good class to take ALONE, bad for every other reason!

Cobb is probably one of the best professors I've had at TCU. You do have to actually learn to do well in her class, but she makes that so wasy to do. Cost is an EASY A... VERY EASY A...just dont be lazy like these other people who gave her bad ratings probably were
SHE IS FREAKIN STUPID.SHE TRYS TO BE ALL PROFESSIONAL BUT DOES NOT WORK.JUST CRAZY.I DONT WANA USE THE WORD BUT MAN.NEVER SEEN SOMEBODY LIKE HER
She is an awesome teacher. She makes it very easy to understand and you know exactly what will be on the tests. It is so possible to make an A. You just have to go to class, do hw before class, and study for tests. It isnt that bad at all.
I'm trying my hardest in this class and still barely getting a D... everytime I talk to her, she just beats around the question and that really isn't helping in my paper writing. Tests are just crazy. I think she means well, but she needs to reexamine some of her methods.
The class is very rigorous (ie, Cobb), but really not difficult. Do your work and you will be fine. Final is complicated, so know your stuff...Still nothing compared to the int. II final. After Int. II (w/cobb), this class is a breeze. Cobb is by far the best to learn accounting from at TCU.
Cobb is one of the best accounting profs at TCU. The class material is tough, but she works with you to make it so that it is understandable. The project and the paper can really boost your grade.
Very good teacher, If you do your work, you'll be fine. Plus, she's very helpful and easy to contact.
Cobb is one of the best professors at TCU. But that does not mean she is easy. She ISN'T!!! Go to class and study like crazy. You will learn so much and it will prepare you for INT. II.
Great teacher. She is very patient and very helpful. Wants to make sure you learn the stuff.
Take her for sure. Anyone has a chance to make an A in that class if they do the material out of her white folder and hw is easy because you can do it ("copy")right before class bc she waits awhile to take it up.
Scares the crap out of you in the beginning few quizzes and tests, but everything works out in the end. she makes it to where you can make up for bad test grades. Good teacher, prepares you a lot.
Wonderful professor! Always working to help students succeed. One of the best you'll ever find. Take her for sure.
Great teacher, but the class is a difficult. She randomly takes up the homework, and there are quizzes every week, which means you have to keep up on your work. The case studies are also tough and take up alot of time. Class is hard, but worth it.
she is amazing! she defines the words and unlike a lot of acct professsors, she teaches you and then gives u hw instead of vice versa! her binder is a big help. she is nice and respectful and makes class fun. acct is not an easy subject, but if u have to take it, take her!
*sigh...this is a difficult class and if you are not a business major don't take her. She moves very fast-her office hours were after class. When you asked for help (and somethimes just didn't know what to ask because you were confused) she told you to study harder and would leave you. She is very good about responding to e-mails
She's just awesome. The class seemed extremely overwhelming at first (contrary to what others said, at the beginning she DOES give you homework before she really explains anything). There is alot of homework - but it's a completion grade. If you pay attention in class, and do the work - quizzes and tests are a BREEZE! Her binder is SO helpful too!
she's a great teacher. definately the lesser of the evils in the accounting dept. she creates this binder for you before the semester and it has a copy of basically every quiz you will take. i went to her one day during her office hours and told her i didn't understand something and so she gave me the lecture over again until i did! TAKE HER!
She is a WONDERFUL professor! I learned so much in her class. If you go to class, pay attention, and maybe spend an hour reviewing for the tests you will be fine! She really wants everyone to do well! I really like this class.
Overall she is pretty good. I had to put some effort into this one in terms of doing hmwk and reading, which was very helpful at test time. I would put her in that hard but fair category. One more thing GO TO CLASS! She does alot of examples that appear, in a harder form, on the test.
Cobb is average for TCU accounting dept. Her class is very hard and she is not very approachable. She is very comprehensive and does a good job "preparing you" for the accounting profession. Given a choice, I would take somebody else.
Ms. Cobb is very helpful when it comes to teaching. Always in her office to answer questions. She is tough but fair when it comes to grading. Use her website and practice hard tests to study. Tests are applying what you know. Final is basically one question. She does have curves for some tests. Tickelope case is boring and pointless though!
She's alright. She doesn't exactly make the material easy, and she teaches at the speed of mach 5 centripetal force. She's smart, but not approachable (sometimes she's even scary). She's well organized, and she offers a lot of "study" material, but I'd suggest taking someone else, if possible. Attendence is a must.
I would recommend her over any other managerial teacher. yes, the accounting in general is boring but I have heard only about how hard the other teacher's tests are. she has her own text book so she uses her own examples which are helpful. offers extra credit quizzes once a week
She's terrible and over-complicates accounting. You basically have to teach yourself.
Worst teacher and class I have ever had. No texbook; you use her website that you subscribe to, her horrible notes package that you buy, and a case you have to buy for the last days of class. Does not really teach; is more concerned with number crunching. Tests are hard. She's the only teacher otherwise I'd absolutely suggest someone else.
Ms. Cobb is basically running a scam. She charges you for her class notes and access to her webpage, which are basically the same thing. You also have to pay for one of the assignments that you do at the end of the course. Most teachers are happy to give students notes and assignments for FREE! I didn't learn a thing in her class!
Best teacher ever. If you have a brain, which surprisingly lots of college students don't, you will make an A in any of her classes. Very helpful and straight to the point.
The person who commented before this must be her fav student or weirdly passionate about acct. You have to learn off the website, which does a POOR job of explaining concepts. Goes through things way too fast in class. Tests= hard. Final=ridculous. Doesnt realize that not everyone gets acct as easy as her or that we also have other classes. AVOID.
Not very helpful, expects way too much. She thinks accounting is very easy and straight forward. She wants your life to be accounting. Try to take Intermediate in the fall; she does not teach then. She has limited compassion and no understanding for students. She lives in a box and doesnt know how to relate to college students. AVOID!
These entries below are a bunch of idiots who were just looking for an easy class. Cobb is tough and expects you to understand the material. However, she wants you to pass and is very helpful. Her tests are hard, but as long as you study and use the website, you can pass. I hardly studied and still pulled a C. Could have made an A by studying more.
Accounting is by far the worst subject of all IMO. However, Cobb is a very good professor and the website is absolutely crucial. I would not have made an 'A' without doing the practice problems. There are some god-awful accounting profs at TCU..she's not one of them.
I can name at least 10 people who had to REPEAT this class! Every lesson is a guessing game. I have never had to pull so many all nighters in my life. She doesn't explain things, is very intimidating, unhelpful, and expects too much out of you.
Did not enjoy her class at all. She taught the material way to quickly and did not explain things thoroughly. The accounting department should do something about her.
I do not like how Cobb teaches Cost. The online material was somewhat helpful but the notes packet is worthless it's basically the website with 3 cases. It teaches you how to fill in boxes not learn formulas which does not help for exams because there are NO boxes!! GOOD LUCK!
the class is hard and cobb blames bad grades on tests on people not studying which is undermining when i studied almost everyday for this class! my advice: go to her office and she will be a lot more helpful, study every day, dont miss class and use the website!
Very challenging class. Make sure you go to class every day and pay attention. Tests are very challenging and too long. Also make sure you put a lot of effort into the writing assignments because Cobb, unlike other profs in the Acct department, actually cares about them.
Great professor! If you are an accounting major then you should take her. She is challenging and by no means easy, but you will learn everything you need to know. Teaches more details than other professors.
Class took waaaaay too much time up! Not that hard, just consumes all your time. Avoid if possible. Beware the writing assignment, it doesn't seem hard, but she will fail you. She has her own website (and text)and you'll spend alot of time copying down questions from it to prove you are studying. -15 pts if you have to go the bathroom duringclass
She is awesome if you put some extra work. Do your homework and keep up with her stuff and then it's an easy class. It's a lot of work but her hw grades and extra credit opportunities bumps your letter grade!
Oh Jcobb...lets just put it this way she is a clear proponent of the push towards lower grades in the business school. Best strategy for cost is to get your grade as high as possible before the final project before she slashes your grade. Also this class is the most work ive ever done for a class. Also she won't round up your plus minus...sweet
This class is by no means easy. There is a LOT of work. I don't know what my grade will be yet, but right now it is a B+. Do the work, ask her questions if you have them, and it'll be fine. I suggest her if you want to learn something.
Very demanding teacher and you must put in about 5 hours each week. You will learn a lot though, and will be thankful looking back
I'm not an expert in acct, but until Cobb, all the profs I'd had explained the material a # of ways (everyone learns differently). Cobb insists that her way (and the mandatory text and website which she profits from) is the ONLY way to learn the content. Most professors treat you like a college student-Cobb treats you like a 3rd grader. Avoid her.
Great Professor. She just redid her entire course which has really made everything clear and easy. Goes straight from her textbooks and uses an online supplement. Tests are not too bad but if you dont pay attention in class and do the homework you will not do well. If you do what she says, you will get an A, no doubt.
Very difficult and rigorous class. You have to keep up w/ the material and study often to do well. A lot of work throughout the semester, but I think it will be beneficial to you. She may seem tough, but she a good teacher and only wants to help you. Take her if you want to learn.
I really like her ! Her class is tough but she's a good professor and explain things very well ! I would recommend her if you consider major in accounting ! You will learn a lot
She's a challenging professor. Nice, but a little aloof and odd. The class is time consuming and somewhat hard. Tests aren't terribly difficult, but the writing project is. She grades it very strictly and many people fail it. I got a B on it and ended up with an A in the class. Good for accounting majors, but maybe not the best for non majors.
Cares a lot about her students. Tough class but she will work with you
The only reason she has any bad ratings is because her class is so incredibly difficult. However, Cobb is a fantastic teacher. She teaches everything in a very practical way which really helps come test time. She literally wrote the book on accounting, so she is really smart. Overall, she's the best teacher to take accounting with.
SO. MUCH. HOMEWORK. If you hate homework don't take it. She teaches it like a high school class and treats you the same way. Good teacher, just was too much homework for a college class.
Professor Cobb is an excellent professor and the way she teaches makes a difficult class much better. The class is more difficult and requires more homework than other professors, but you will learn much more.
Cost Accounting !! I learned so much from her class. Take her if you want to actually learn something. She will make you learn. She cares about the students a lot and genuinely want you to success. She's also good at teaching and explaining things. However there's a lot of homework so be prepared to work hard. The project is brutal .
Tough professor !!! Try to get your grade as high as possible before the final project due. It will slash your grade
Best professor I've taken at TCU! Yes, there is a lot of homework outside of class and pop quizzes, but it's all so worth it. She truly wants you to succeed and will work with you as much as possible until you understand the material. Class time is well spent and she explains everything very well. MUST TAKE.
Mrs. Cobb is awesome. She is super-helpful and really cares about her students and tries to make as many as possible leave as accounting majors. Now, she is tough, but if you read the book, ask questions in class and pay attention it is completely possible to get an A. One of my favorite professors at Neeley.
I am an accounting/finance major with great grades, part of the PPA and I enjoy accounting. DO NOT TAKE HER. Her book is terrible, her tests have grammar mistakes/are not clear, and she does not teach you. She just asks questions. Horrible teacher. Accounting is difficult, but is impossible when you have an incompetent teacher.
Her Financial and Managerial Acct classes are manageable but her Intermediate II class is almost impossible. I learned a lot but her tests are difficult and the footnote tests are ridiculous. Tough class.
Too much homework. Does not use a standard textbook - which makes it difficult to follow. Online homework was always incorrect due to technical errors. Definitely NOT my favorite organization for an accounting course.
Very difficult class, but Ms. Cobb is extremely helpful and wants all students to succeed. She expects a lot of work from her students, but she is very rewarding if she knows you put forth solid effort. Very approachable and knowledgeable about accounting! Take her if you really want to learn and retain accounting concepts!
Do NOT take this class. She writes all of her own materials and the homework is a pain in the ass! Way too much of a time commitment with no reward. Terrible teacher. In addition, if you need to use the bathroom, get water, or are on your death bed .... You will see a 15 point reduction in your grade! Just don't do it to yourself.
You will have over two hours of homework due every class, with a pop quiz almost every class or every other class. The test are impossible, she is the only Financial teacher to have short answers on her test. The short answers are impossible and no way to really study for them.
DO NOT take this class. Too much homework, impossible short answers on the tests, etc. Hell you can't even study for the short answer. You could be an "A" student for basic accounting conceptsprinciples and then fail the short answer half of tests, landing yourself with a "C" every time. She wants people to learn, but she just induces stress.
As a dedicated accounting major I tried to have a good attitude in her class, but it just isn't possible to enjoy Cobb's course. Cobb's materials are written by herself - Red Flag #1. Sometimes this can be helpful in a class, but in Cobb's case it is just indicative of a massive ego and poor teaching capabilities. This course lacks structure.
Tough class but doable. Best if you want to really understand the why, how and when of accounting. If only trying to check a box on your degree plan, skip it!
This is not an easy class, and Professor Cobb really makes you work for your grade. She assigns a lot of homework each day, but it is very helpful to do all of it because the tests follow the same format. She's a great professor and is willing to help. She cares about the students and wants everyone to do well in the class.
Professor Cobb is the best teacher I have had since starting college. She is very tough and makes you work hard, but you will learn more in this class than with any other teacher. She loves to help and truly wants her students to learn the material. Get ready to work if you want to succeed.
After class we need to spend 3-4 hours to work on assignment and quiz everyday. Not much lectures during class, only discuss about homework. And we need to submit a reflection paper after the course. Test is tough and requires to fill in the space as well. Will definitely be a tough course for those who don't have accounting background.
cobb was hands down the best professor ive had at TCU. I think I learned more in her class than all other classes combined. SO much work and grading was very harsh but very worth it. Grades mostly consist of participation and papers - no exams. Definitely the harder FR3 class to take but you'll get a lot out of it
Dr. Cobb is by far the best professor I've had at TCU (I am a senior). She makes you work for an A but it's achievable if you work hard. Her class is about more than Accounting; you will learn about critical thinking and research which you can apply in other fields as well. She is great and always willing to help her students.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! Amazing professor, but literally 3 hours of homework before each class. If you take her, you'll remember this post.
the worst teacher ive ever had. spends way too much time doing her P90X and milking her cow and not enough time teaching. on a scale of 1-10 janice cobb is a -240. I would rather get slapped across the face for 50 minutes 3 times a week than ever go back to her class.
Pros: -I learned so much in her class -Accessible outside of class -Will do what she can to help you/your grade if you are actually trying Cons: -Incredibly difficult class (especially for someone who is not an accounting or finance major). -Hours of homework each night. Get ready to WORK -Test heavy: I think we had 5-6 exams
You really have to work for every point you get. Cobb gave extensive notes on every hw assingment, make sure to actually address them. She is incredibly caring and often pushed back assignment deadlines to make sure she received quality work. Be prepared to commit at lease 15 hours outside of class a week if you want to do well in this class.
Cobb is a great teacher. Her expression of her knowledge is hard to understand. She curves the class so much because everyone does so bad. Highest grades on tests are usually an 85. If you don't spend at least 5 hours a week outside of class on a normal week, you will be incredibly behind. Tests are in a foreign language, even if you study hard.
I have never had one single class consume so much of my time. I spend about 3 to 4 hours before every class doing the required homework and she knows that's how much time it takes. Her quizzes are so unfair, 5 min for 10 questions that require so much reading its impossible. Even if you get an A you will not think it is worth it. DO NOT TAKE
FR3 is a hard class plain and simple. Be prepared to commit 10-15 hours outside of class. You will be stressed constantly because reading and interpreting accounting code is not easy. Dr. Cobb has high expectations but wants you to appreciate the learning process. I learned a lot in this class and actually got a lot out of it.
Unless you want depression, sleep deprivation, and high levels of stress and anxiety dont take Cobb. Shes terrible. Doesnt teach you anything. Gives you a thousand assignments throughout the semester which cuts into your grades for your other classes. Her grading system is terrible and youre gonna get a lot of 0s for assignments you turn in.
FR3 with Cobb sucks. It will be the hardest accounting class you ever take. It is very frustrating and disheartening because she is very strict and has high expectations. HOWEVER she is genuinely a great woman who wants her students to succeed after graduation. You will learn a lot in her class.
Fr3 is hard itself but Cobb is nice. Our class was very small so in my opinion it was better. Dont skip otherwise you will not understand anything. Your final grade doesnt matter. As she says an 94 is not an A in her class. she does give a lot of work but I honestly learned a lot from her.
Cobb is the worst teacher I've ever had in my life. Within the first 2 weeks of class, she assigns you probably 12 different assignments. If you do not do the assignment exactly how she wants, she gives you a 0!!! Additionally, she barely explains her very complicated class structure and expects you to perform on Cost Acct material immediately.
I don't care what other people are saying, Cobb is such a great teacher. Just need to see her outside of class and it goes a long way! FR1 is a tough class no matter the professor. Would take her again! Def take her!
Some people just want to watch the world burn.
This class made me question my entire life. She makes it impossible. Directly contradicts herself in class and the feedback she gives makes no sense. However, your grade will end up okay in the end. I got a 50 on pretty much everything and ended up with a B+. I get what Cobb was trying to do, but the execution is horrible. Take Walters.
Professor Cobb truly understands how to teach accounting. You will not have to study for exams if you follow the assigned readings and homework. Students who are complaining likely put off readings and assignments until the last minute and haven't yet learned that accounting takes practice.
Do not take Janice Cobb. She gives an extreme amount of homework and is super unforgiving when it comes to work in the class. Moves extremely fast and this will hurt your GPA. Puts you at a disadvantage as a student.
Very subjective and inconsistent grading. Learned a lot but the writing rules were so strict and unrealistic. I never used any of those rules in my internship. Not impossible but will frustrate you. Get another teacher if you can.
Good teacher and very knowledgeable. Obviously FR3 is hard but she will help you if you need it. Take her if you can! Not sure why some of her ratings are low I think she is the best option for the class from what I've heard from friends with other teachers.
It can be a hard class but she is very helpful with the resources she provides. Homework is optional which is nice. We did one project throughout the semester which was graded tough and instructions were kind of vague so that's my only knock. But her tests aren't too difficult and she provides you with the resources needed to succeed.
Cost accounting is a cool skill. I learned recently it's not really even on the CPA. Not sure why TCU has this as a requirement, maybe other accounting programs do too. I liked this professor; she is very cool. A little intimidating at first but it's so clear she loves accounting.Notsureif there is a secret to costaccounting or not. It'sreallyhard
This was the hardest class I have ever taken. She knows the material well, but test covers so much material it is super hard to study for
I feel like she goes out of her way to make cost very difficult. Her conceptual questions are very difficult, and I'm not the biggest fan of her teaching style. Too much work. HW, online quizzes, dothejob, in class quizzes, and 4 tests (final is cumulative). Hardest class I think I've ever taken, but definitely do-able, and she's a good person.
She could be worse, she's approachable. The topic isn't hard; it's her teaching style. Textbook HW, online quizzes, online HW, in-class quizzes, and 4 cumulative exams. Attendance isn't mandatory, but trust me, you'll want to be there. Manageable if organized, but could use more engagement to make it less monotonous. Good for learning fundamentals.
