Best professor at MC. Shes intresting and fair. Religion class was enjoyable. She is very knowledgable, I'd reccomend to all though steer clear if you hate writing papers as that is almost all of your grade.
Awesome teacher, the best I've had at Moorpark. Is friendly, VERY knowledgeable, and is very helpful with the class topics and transferring to other schools. I highly reccomend the Western Religions class. She will make you think hard in doing all work.

AWESOME teacher. She is absolutely great. She expects a lot out of you, but she really wants to help you out. A++
Very religious...Obviously hasn't taken a Biology couse in her life! Doesn't have a clue about anything scientific! Very subjective in her grading and plays favorites.
coolest teacher ever - Helping me out with tranferring - gets to know her students - funny - There is work - but way worth it - makes you interested in the subject...
Take a class with this professor. ANY CLASS.
She assigns papers based upon your opinion then tells you you're wrong. Gets into your personal business when unwanted. Makes you feel dumb (im not the only one who thinks this).
Your brain will be left in a puddle on the floor.
She is a very good teacher who will put time in to help students. However she does play favorites. If your the right person you can get an A if not look out. She is good but not for everyone.
she tells you when your being ignorant. she knows when you are not knowlegdeable in a subject. shes cool smart and passionate. take her if you want to really learn about other views
The worst teacher ever! If u want a ****, then take her!
That last comment the user made about her is complete bulls**t. Daurio is a fair grader, and she keeps the students up to date on their grades. Tha person was one of these sore losers too lazy to think for themselves and quit the class as a result.
She has work...very clear precise...suammary and opinion. She requires only the best out of everyone and if that seems hard, so be it. She is caring and wants to have everyone do the best they can in her class. She is awesome!
She can make you feel so dumb in class if you dont know the answer or if your not answering the question how she wants you to but if you do, then she makes you feel smart!
She plays favorites, and if your not one of them then the class will be hard!!One of the hardest classes.
She's very upbeat and funny so it's a shame to miss a class. She also makes herself very available towards her students and is genuinely concerned for your grades. Heck, she'll buy you something at Starbucks and teach you one on one if you have troubles.
Daurio is an extremely caring professor. However, she is one to thoroughly challenges and stretch your mind.. may be a good or bad thing depending on the person
An amazing teacher who changed my life! She demands clarity of thought from her students and teaches you how to do it (if you're willing). She is completey objective in making the class participate in fun philosophical discussion! Few crucial assignments
If you're smart take her. She'll take you somewhere and broaden your views. She loves intelligent students. Not an easy subject matter and not an easy A. Need to have a philosophical viewpoint from the start.
Definitely challenging...
Professor Daurio is the best professor I've had at Moorpark. She made things a lot more clear to me and was very challenging. So if you like a challenge, go ahead and take her!
Dr. Daurio is a crazy woman. If you have any brains you'll be surprised at how many people don't catch onto the fact that she answers the wrong questions. Oh sure, she's very smart and expects a lot of her students. Lectures well, class discussion is bad.
There is homework and you are expected to attend, but no tests makes this class not too difficult. She is nice and wants you to learn, but very opinionated and you should just agree with what she says to get an A.
Fairly challenging but tends to dismiss and make fun of points of view she disagrees with or doesn't understand. Has some really distorted views of what Protestant Christians believe. And keep it to yourself if you're a pluralist or mystic.
Really funny teacher, but don't challenge her ideas and philosophies, she'll shoot you down. And also she has her own grading system. She'll give you what she wants not what you earned.
Catholic Bible and authority of the pope is acceptable, but accept any other translation and the authority of any other church and she calls you 'Joe Jerk' or imitates you as a dumb hick from the south.
She takes an interest in all of her students, will go out of her way to meet with you, she is an extremely easy grader if you earn it, she gives you new outlooks, very sweet
I thought she was a little crazy. i took her world religions class and after the first week i dropped it. she just seems kinda weird and acts like she knows everything.
This class sucks. Don't take it. I had to redue every single paper I wrote. I would say exactly what it said in the book and she would tell me I was wrong. So frustrating. Not worth my time I had to drop the class.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Very jovial and fun instructor. If you don't keep up with your work, and you're already a crappy student, then don't expect anything good to come of taking her class. If you're a good student, then by all means take her class. She'll go out of her way to meet with you, and even buy you coffee!

My recommendation: don't take this class if you're not serious about philosophy. She's a teacher who randomly picks on kids so it's not a class where you can catch up on sleep. However, she is really caring and truly helpful. Don't get behind on the weekly assignments, that's what killed me!
Very challenging class very interesting, I would however recommend that you take her PHILO M01 class before taking her religion because you have know the "in-speak" for philosophy to do well in that class.
She was good. She has really high expectations for a begging class. She will work with you on your grade to help you out.... but you have to bethere and do the work and back up every little stinkin fact. Nice lady though, i would rec, but theres prob easier out there
I love this teacher!! I am a phil. major because of her. She goes out of her way to help you. She even met me at Starbucks after class! She is passionate about the subject and keeps you entertained the entire time. She is the type of person that was born to be a teacher!!!
This woman is a bit odd, so if you can handle it, go for it. Don't tell her what religion you are because she does judge you by it (unless she likes your religion - then you'll get an "A")
Don't go near this woman unless you are a fundamentalist Christian or a Catholic. She uses her class as a soapbox for her religious views. She is absolutely brutal if you have a different viewpoint. Mushy-thinking Catholics get off scot-free, others get trashed.
I love Daurio! I recommend her to everyone!
She is fabulous. you actually have to do the work and pay attention but i thought she was great.
Awesome teacher, the LOTR class was kickin!
Lots of fun!
Daurio is the best professor I have ever had. She is so knowledgable of her subject that she explains things very well. Plus, she will always find time to help you with anything you need, and she will buy you coffee while you are getting help.
She requires a lot of writing, but grades are completely based on whether or not she likes you and your personal beliefs. Very fuzzy philosophy, be careful if you want to transfer to a university and take serious philosophy courses because you can't get away with the pap she accepts and teaches.
Most of these post talk about how nice she is but who cares about that. Basicly the class is an easy atmosphere but there is a ton of work. NO Test but homework each week that takes a while but you can turn it in weeks late and will still accept. EASY to talk and class is actually fun. A few essays.
Several posts mention lots of required work - there is a lot of written work, but she accepts really poorly written stuff as long as she likes you. Just regurgitate whatever she says in class and don't try to disagree with her conservative views and she'll give you an A.
I hated this teacher! Totally plays favorites. I couldnt understand her class at all. You have so much homework and she will tear it apart. Nothing was ever good enough. I would NEVER take her again.
She does have her own views which you might contrast, but you shouldnt let it get in the way. She is understanding and will actually have full length discussions with u through emails. Anyone who posted that she's not fair, etc., is someone who is not willing to use their brain for a few minutes!!!!
She is intelligent, witty, helpful, and fun. Take her for a challenging and interesting class!
I was one of her 'favorites' and worked hard, for MC. We have a LOT more serious work at a 4-year. Obviously plays favorites so deal with it. Problem is she tries to do phil. without defining terms or completing arguments. Don't try that at a real college. Papers have to be much more logical.
If your looking to be some kind of Phil major you might not want to take this class. But if you want an good GPA booster than take her. There is a good amount of homwork but all you have to do is read the chapt and outline it. NO TEST. Just do good long homeowkrs and talk to her after class for an A
Really nice if you're a favorites-we had free Starbucks drinks and hung out at her house.Nice lady, but more like a social worker or female priest, wants to 'help' you.Doesn't really teach religion, just brings in clergy to lecture.Easy A-just write a lot. Makes fun of people she doesn't like.
Excellent teacher who really wants to prepare you for university study (that's why she's kinda critical, but she gives you as many chances as you need to improve your work). Anyone who doesn't like her is just lazy. Her "favorites" are just the students she calls on cuz they're smart.
take religion with her she is a good teacher but does not accept others opinions. she is catholic and does not take well to ideas challenging her belifes
It's been 5 years since I took classes with her but she remains one of the best instructors at MC. Some people have mentioned "favorites," but she simply gravitates towards those who took her class and its ideas seriously. If you're there for "the easy A" then she has no reason to pay special attention to you. Let her classes mess with your mind.
So DARN nice! Loves to help out as much as possible. Never seen her get mad, and she has a great outlook on everything. Just do whatever work she assigns (you can hand it in a few days late, its OK), and you'll do fine. An A isn't hard at all! You do you have to read though. Fun, entertaining, she's always there FOR YOU. Born to be a teacher!!!!!!!
Not the easiest teacher, but definitely the most interesting. She is so helpful and caring and really wants you to succeed. If you aren't keeping up she will help no matter what. Great teacher. Take her!
So much fun! Always willing to help in any way she can; such as, class related things or if you want to know more about how to transfer or something. She's by far the nicest teacher at Moorpark. She meets students at Starbucks after class and buys everyone a drink. There are quite a few writing assignments, but it's worth taking her
**** and crazy dont take class
One of the greatest teachers at Moorpark. She expects you to work, but her classes are very enjoyable! You actually learn in her classes!!
Great ****in' Teacher......helpful and a joy to listen to.
Shes a great teacher, and i never even had her! She loves Starbucks and is very entertaining. If you like fun teachers, get her! ya.
Fabulous teacher who actually does her job. Intelligent and helpful. Interesting class... she makes you decide what you believe without shoving her beleifs down your throat. Not easy, but i learned so much.
She's amazing and a freakin genius. She's not biased at all, she just wants people to back up themselves. She gives a lot of hw but if you do bad you can always redo it and she's pretty lienant on when to turn in the redos. It was an honor to be taught by her!
Her teaching style and my learning style clashed. She calls on people randomly. Picks on people as well. Very smart, also easy to get ahold of. I found her a wee bit intimidating, though. Her views interfered with my ability to take her seriously. Overall, it really depends where you stand (as a whole) if you can handle this class. Challenging.
She is a really hard teacher, and gives a lot of work, but it is all worth it, because she teaches you how to think and write logically. If you are going to transfer, take her. She will prepare you. She is one of the best professors at mp and helps her students tremendously. I am currently getting a C in her class but its all worth it.
Best teacher at Moorpark. There are a lot of writing assignments, but if you aren't getting the grade you want, she lets you do extra work to earn some more points. Extremely helpful for class related issues or anything else you want to talk about, including advice on transfering. I got an A and didn't have to do the final. Shes really funny too
Best in the west! I totally loved her! she is not easy but she is very nice and is always willing to help, she loves to hear about your future plans...and she buys cookies for her students!
Dr. Daurio has high expectations of her students, but she truly wants her students to succeed and gives us many chances to so. She made a topic I really wasn't interested in very interesting. I highly recommend her.

Awesome teacher! This was the first phil class I have taken and now I registered for 2 more with her next term!
Daurio is an awesome teacher but she expects a lot of work. There is a lot of writing assignments, but she is a very fair grader.
This class is a joke. I had such a high A I didn't have to take the final. Just do the writing assignments, answer her questions, and show up. Make your answers agree with her point of view, otherwise she will mark you down. In that aspect she is unfair, but otherwise this class is amazingly easy.
To get an A you MUST : Contribute in class and finish the assignments on time. Don't bull**** the first essay becasue she calls you out on it being the first draft. if you dont want to put forth the extra effort, you're guaranteed a B. Overall good teacher, but does expect more of you than other moorpark teachers.
She assigns a lot of work, as long as you don't get discouraged it's not that bad. Try to focus in on her view point other wise it's hard to take the class seriously, or continue responding to her RSVP. Take caution when using your own views, because she can be a little on sided. Over all her intentions are good and she's just trying to help.
the best teacher ever. EVER!!
She's a really great teacher. She is understanding and helpful. Make sure you do the RSVP and give a clear opinion. She basically forces you to take a stance on philosophical topics. Awesome teacher. Definitely recommend her if you can take her.
THIS CLASS IS HARD! But, JD is THE BEST teacher at moorpark. she makes you work, but what you get from the class is priceless. If you want to expand your mind, take her class. if you want an easy A, then dont.
Dr. Daurio is an awesome teacher. She is like an energizer bunny! It is impossible to be bored in any of her classes. I wish I could take them all just for fun. It's great to have your opinion respected, as long as you can back up what you say, that is. I highly recommend her. She expects a lot, but gives even more.
She does have you do a lot of work but gives you so much time to finish she doesn't mark you down for turning in stuff late if you dont understand she there to help you... you can e-mail her about anything. she just a really cool lady that happens to teach this class... she might beat you up a lil but thats just because she wants you to do good
If your looking for an easy A, this is definitely not the class. Its a lot of work, some of it tedious but shes very understanding and gives u enough time and help. She is really energetic, extremely smart and keeps you interested. I had her as a morning class...usually il fall asleep in any class that early..NOT IN HERS!
She expects alot from her students, but she makes herself very available to help you if there are any questions or any subject matter that you are not able to understand. This woman is truly brilliant, so watch out to make sure your foot doesn't wind up in your mouth. Very patient, not condescending in any way and honestly seems to enjoy teaching.
Nice enough lady but really unclear on any philosophy related to science. Gives lots of busy work, but as long as you restate what's in the book and agree with her in class, it's an easy A. Very condescending to people who have the audacity to disagree with her or question some of her outrageous assumptions.
Daurio is one of my most favorite professors at Moorpark now. She totally makes herself available to answer any questions you have. There is a lot of homework, but she gives you tons of time to do it. THERE ARE NO TESTS! She lets you have your own opinions about issues, as long as you're able to back them up. I reccommend her for everyone!!
Teaching style, well to me it sucks... The good thing is there are not tests, but just assignments. You do the assignments and turn it in, but she gives them back to you with a million little questions on it called RSVP's which means in order to get credit you have to practically do the assignment over again just for credit. She is pretty nice tho.
loved her. class is a lot of work lots of homework but shes a pretty rad old lady.
Best school experience at MC so far...is fair on grades...just do the work.
The work can be difficult, but she'll help you if you ask. The RSVP's can get a little annoying, but they do help to clear up any mistakes in my thinking. She is a Christian, but I don't think it affects her too much, except for abortion. Don't mention if you are pro-choice.
Janice Daurio is a great teacher. The work-load is tremendous, yes, but it's worth it. She even accepts late assignments!! Her classes are NEVER boring and there are never any tests. Her religious beliefs don't affect her teaching of the material, but you have to remember it's PHILOSOPHY and it's all about morals and beliefs. AWESOME teacher.
Dr. Daurio is a considerate and thought provoking professor. I found myself contemplating the class discussion throughout my day.
Professor is extremely helpful, and makes learning on a personal basis. Class is clear, and emails you for assignment reminders. Only reason someone does not get an A in this class is if they cannot think. By far the best teacher I have had at MP.
Truly, a thought-provoking and engaging class. Daurio's energy never ceased to amaze me. There is a lot of work in the class, but she accepts late work. However, if you put stuff off, then it all piles up until the end. That's what happened to me, but luckily I finished it all. I would take another class with her.
Daurio is an amazing educator. She spends countless hours working with every student in all of her classes on their assingments. This is not an easy class, Daurio will make you work but the process is enjoyable and you will benefit greatly from it. Take this class!
Great teacher. Completely turned me onto philosophy! She is not easy. Class attendance is vital to your grade and you MUST keep up with the reading. But she opens your eyes to the subject matter and encourages and facilitates class discussion. She knows what she is talking about and has had a very distinuished teaching career in Philosophy
Daurio intimidated me at first. She will call on you to speak and drill you until come up with an answer that makes sense. She is energetic and loves philosophy. make sure that you take notes on the reading so the assignments will be easier and that you participate as often as possible. overall a great teacher!
Great, fun, easy class- IF you establish a report with her. Email her questions once in a while, some to class, write brief "class responses" & you get an A. Very interesting class with a very interesting professor. She CAN be a little blunt, and even a little rude, cutting you off and whatnot, but it's a great, easy class to take. Take it!
Says she takes late work but DO NOT FALL BEHIND. A little inconsistent, but nice. Tries to make it interesting but you do most of the talking.
Janice is AMAZING and very enthusiastic about philosophy. She will help you whenever you feel left behind or have any trouble with the material. I admit that I enjoy the subject a great deal, so I found the class incredibly enjoyable, interesting, and easy. It can seem daunting at first, with lots of thinking and writing, but is worth your while.
She is amazing, very funny teacher, sometimes crazy,:) but she is really nice and helpful, her class is very interesting. take her!
This class is a lot of work. However, if you stick with it your reading and writing skills will have improved greatly by the time you are done with the class. Janice is an amazing professor who does everything she can to engage her students and make this class a positive and productive experience for all. Take her!
picks favorites! very unclear and confusing when she teaches. doesn't provide much guidance when it comes to your assignments. take another teacher! must show up to every class and be ready to talk about philosophy because she will call on you in class every day and will get frustrated if you don't understand the material.
This was the hardest class I have EVER had. I wrote 4 papers that were at least 18 pages long. She can be rude and embarrass you in front of the class, but she truly cares about her students, about your life, where you are transferring, etc. It is interesting and she'll make you think, but I'm normally an A student and I got a B, with a lot of work
Eh, she was ok. She's a real nice person, but she has a tendancy to lose your stuff (or forget you turned it in) also her assignments are a little confusing on how she wants you to do them... you only need to do like 3 assignments, but they are all really boring... shes interesting though!
Most intense teacher I've taken, but I would take her again. She cares about you and your grade. If you show up to class and participate a lot, you'll get an A. She likes to e-mail with her students.
You go to school for professors like Daurio. She was interested in teaching and obviously loved it. Yes, she makes you think and work, so if you don't like to, don't bother. If you ask for help, she'll give it to you. You just have to show effort. Highly recommend; loved her LOTR philosophy course. Be ready to defend your beliefs to the end.
Her grading scale makes no sense at all. I got B's on all the papers and showed up to all but 3 classes, and she gave me a C. Her explanations make no senses to any of the chapters. Terrible teacher.
Ok teacher. She really teaches you how to think and defend your reasoning. Very intense class and she is a little out of the box. Her assignments are also confusing and you will just have to keep redoing them over and over all 3 of them. Her class is like a large seminar group so be ready to talk and have your opinions bashed down and worked over.
she only likes her "favorites" shes so unclear on what she expects from you. nothing is ever good enough for her. she loves to make you look stupid in front of class. don't take her
She is NOT easy. I really like her but she is so unclear on what she expects. Her RSVP's take forever! It is a participation class and she is hard on those who she sees potential. Will push you but not out of spite. I like her, but her teaching method should be more organized. I like the discussions/topics more than anything. FREQ. EMAIL!!!
Great teacher! Highly reccomend her if you want to learn. Talk in class, do the assignments and email her and talk to her. Become involved in this class. You will have fun but learn alot during the semester. I am taking a class from her next semester too!
She is not easy if thats what you want. But she is entertaining as hell! She makes you think and rethink any opinion you have. Discussions are interesting and fun. You MUST do the writing assignments, but if you do them well the first time, you dont have to RSVP as much. Lots of emailing. Should be at a higher university. Taker her she is awesome!!
This class makes you think...A LOT!!! It is a fun class to take but her assignments make you not want to check your e-mail. Do the assignments ahead of time, NOT the day before! There are only 3 assignemts the whole semester. It made me question everything I believe in and I loved it, take her class NOW!!
Janice is a very intelligent woman. She cares a lot about each student and takes interest in their thoughts and lives. She's the only teacher I've had that wanted assignments emailed to her and these assignments were no walk in the park. She makes sure you do the reading and will call on you if you have not participated. I learned so much.
Great Professor!!!
Gives unclear instruction on assignments. Plays favorites. Tortures by email. Do not take.
Daurio is a really great teacher. When taking her class, come prepared to voice your opinion. She makes you think like crazy. In this philosophical religion class, she made me question all my beliefs in my faith, which wasn't a bad thing! Not an easy class but very insightful! Her assignments are tedious but ok once you get the hang of it.
Amazing!
Dr. Daurio is an amazing professor who loves what she teaches. Her class is by far the most challenging class I have ever taken, but it is also extremely rewarding. Be prepared to defend and argue any of your beliefs, and definitely read the text. Oh, and make sure you can handle criticism; her emails may make you cry.
Janice is a top-notch prof. Her class convinced me to be a phil major, and I now study it at Cal. She is very hard and forces you to write and think clearly, but that is a good thing. If you are serious about learning, take her class. Her courses helped prepare me for Cal. I feel better prepared than some of my peers who came to Cal as freshman.
Mrs. Daurio is great teacher with a passion for what she does and expect to be checking your email ALOT. Don't expect to get an A by merely attending. I'm a quiet guy, so I got a B because I hardly ever contributed, but she WILL call on you. To impress her, think outside the box and try to find fault in moral theories quick;youll get all the credit
Teaching's obviously her passion, and she legitimately wants to know what each student thinks about the the different topics. She emails A LOT, check daily. If you don't like to speak & particpate in class, email her & she will give you credit. She's also pretty flexible about when YOU want to turn in the assignments. Stay motivated!
I've gladly given so much to this class, because I could tell Janice gave so much to each student. She is one of the most dedicated teachers I have ever seen, and her personality will add a color to the class like none other.
One of the most intelligent people I have ever encountered, yet one of the hardest classes. DO NOT take this class if you work a lot or value your social life. She emails you several times a day and your participation decreases if you don't reply right away. A brilliant lady with a passion for teaching, but I don't recommend taking her class.
Janice is brilliant and an excellent professor; however, unless you're an educational masochist...I do not recommend taking the class.
great teacher, must be very precise with words. got an A in her class but had to work for it. Very deserving class and i would take her again. I recommend if you actually want to LEARN philosophy
Ok so this class does not even seen like a intro class. She thinks tht when the second u read u become an expert. She's not helpful nd makes u feel stupid nd also it should be mostly lecture nd some discussion. Discussions only help a few students nd she picks favorites. I'm glad I left in time this class gav me a huge headache not worth it @ all
Janice is a fantastic teacher! She tries her hardest to get you to form your own opinions. She may seem tough, but you appreciate her after the class. Sometimes the e-mails she sends are overwhelming, but as long as you keep trying and think out your answers each time, an A is easy!
I had the pleasure of taking Mrs.Daurio at Moorpark for western religions before I completed my degree at UCLA. I have never before reviewed a professor on here or any similar site and all I have to say about Mrs.Daurio is that she is one of the best professors that I have ever had, at UCLA or otherwise. Do not squander your time with her.
Nice Professor, but very hard. You need to participate in class because its part of your grade and you need to do 3 essays alongside with revision, so it can be hard and frustrating to do so think about taking this class.
Extremely time demanding. I spent more time on this class than one of my 5 unit classes. She is a good teacher and the class is interesting, but she is way too demanding, and expects you to participate way too much.
I dropped the class after 2 meetings She is into arguments . No matter what you say, she will disagree. While I realize that this is to make you think and rethink, she twists what you have said and then goes on to ridicule your statement in front of the other students. I want to learn, not to get lambasted and emotionally beat up for 3 units.
She is super interesting, but don't expect an easy A. The material itself is not too difficult, but the assignments take a lot of time. I actually looked forward to coming to class.
Fun lectures. There are readings for every class that you have to participate for. Most of the class grade is participation and then 3 written assignments that are very open but challenging (along with 3 followups for each essay). My last got a C, but I argued philosophy with her over e-mails until I got an A. Just e-mail her and you'll get an A.
Best teacher ever!! She will improve your analytic skills greatly through class discussion and written assignments. She is very encouraging and supportive of students. The only reason one might feel put down in her class is if said person has no humility or good-sense.
if you are a full time student who isn't per suing a degree in philosophy don't take her class. She's a great teacher and knows what she's talking about but you're basically a slave to her homework.
It is definitely not an introductory level class. The teacher expects way more than the students can give, and if you expect it to be even just average, you're wrong. The class is extremely stressful both physically and mentally.
This class may be difficult, but if you do actually try and are enthusiastic about the class it's worth it. Great lectures, classes are fun, and very thought provoking. Janice is SOOO helpful, she's open minded to different thought processed although she is strongly opinionated. Definitely one of the best teachers I have ever had.
Amazing Professor. You must take her!!One of the best professors i have ever had. I'll admit the long papers were a bit difficult at first but you get used to it.however that's all you have 4 assignments throughout the semester. She truly cares for her students and will help you any way she can. Just make sure you are involved in class discussions
If you are at all serious about your education, regardless of your major, you have to take Daurio. She is, bar none, the best teacher at MCC. She's going to push you, she's going to test you and make you think, but when the class is done you'll thank her for it. Take her.
Truly a wonderful professor!! Any student interested in Philosophy must take a class with Daurio. She may be a bit indimidating at first but she really cares for all of her students, especially if you talk to her either through email or in person. Do the assignments and the readings and participate and you'll do exceptionally well.
Only take this class if you can handle harsh critism. This is the most challenging class i have ever taken. She emails you constantly. If you plan on taking this class just know that it is 24/7 class, not just when you're in the room with her.
I took her for Phil M01 and M02. She is an amazing teacher! If you ask for help she will give it! You have to write a lot, and do a lot of reading. I suggest reading a paragraph then sumarizing what you just read. If you try you can't fail. She will push your buttons during the assignments, but you'll love her for it. She's amazing!
Daurio is awesome! I swear she is a professor straight out of UCLA or CAL. She challenges students ONLY because she wants them to succeed. NO TESTS. If you want to pass, you will pass. Favorite teacher at MPCC so far!
Best teacher. She will talk to you all semester long if she could. Individually, in person, over email, she will do whatever it takes to help!! Great fun class!!!
I. LOVE. HER. I had never taken a philosophy class, so I didn't really have any interest but I needed it for my major. This turned out to be my favorite class, and she is my favorite teacher currently. She's VERY intimidating & not for the faint of heart, but she's awesome. I think she's crazy. She's amazing. Just work hard!
I have taken Daurio for Ethics and World Religions and she is by far and away the best professor I have ever had. She will make you think, and you'll probably hate her at first but damnit if you don't become a better thinker because of her class. She is eccentric and awesome. If there's one prof at Moorpark I recommend, it is her.
Janice Daurio is one of those professors you will never forget. She is absolutely dedicated to her students and wants them to succeed. She holds students accountable for their opinions. There is no where to hide in Dr. Daurio's class. She has challenged me more than any other professor and because of this I am definitely a better student.
Dr. Daurio is a natural born instructor . She can be quite intimidating. Do the reading, you will be asked to respond. She makes certain you get it. She will even draw you a picture to make sure concepts stick. She is excellent at returning e-mail. Despite the number of students she has, she makes you feel like you're the most important one.
Do not take her class. She emails constantly and demands assignments on her time. I have a job and she would ask for a report on an article right then and there so I would not be able to due to the fact I had to go work. She forces you to express your opinion and then tears you down. I dropped the class about 3 weeks in. Do not take her class.
Not an easy A but doable. Daurio is the best professor I've ever had. She seems tough, but she's a sweetheart. She doesn't "tear down commenters", she challenges you. If you don't get something, email with her! She will email with you until you get it. She's awesome. Just be ready to think abstractly and be able to back up what you say!
Daurio will make you better, she challenges her students and cares about improving your grades. This class is not an easy A but it is well worth it. I enjoy coming to this class more than any other. Definitely recommended.
Amazing professor. If you actually wanna get better, this is the one to take. She challenges you alot and forces you to think so soon enough you will start weighting your opinions carefully before you make that comment and that's a really good training. What students concern the most tho,she does grade pretty hard but I have learnt alot from her.
Do not recommend.
Probably the most annoying teacher. She emails you probably every single day of the week, embarrasses you if you don't participate, and material is hard and she picks favorites. Don't take if you're not interested in philosophy at all.
Daurio is an AMAZING teacher. I highly recommend taking her. She cares about every student individually and even though the class is not an easy A, it's so worth it.
Daurio is by far the best professor/teacher I have ever had. I look forward to her class everyday. Daurio really cares for each student, asking your opinion, she really desires for you to do well, and shes hilarious. Her class is not an easy A, but its definitely possible. She will email you nonstop, but its a good thing. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Janice Daurio is by far the best professor I've ever had at Moorpark. She cares about her students and tries to help in every way possible (philosophy or not). Although her class is challenging, it is most definitely well worth it! She has made me love philosophy to the point where it's now my major! I highly suggest at least trying philosophy :)
I highly recommend her. Pay attention in class, respond fairly promptly to emails, and participate. You will do fine with a good grade if you follow those rules. If you DO NOT LIKE to participate, either get over it or don't take her class! Class participation in this course is paramount! Very important point! If shy, do not take!
The best professor at Moorpark. Hands down. She'll help you for life, too, especially if you're a philosophy major.
She is incredible. She is not only a great professor, but a good friend. She really cares for her students. Highly recommend.
She will push you to your limits. I love her. Very helpful and really tries to engage the class. Make sure to keep up with the reading and participate.. even if you think your ideas are stupid, do it anyways. I love her to death! Hands down one of the finest faculty members in Moorpark College. I highly recommend her! :-)
She's so passionate about Philosophy that it shows in her teaching. She loves her students and wants them all to succeed. She's the best instructor at Moorpark College and you won't regret taking her class. She made me want to become a Philosophy major!
I loved Daurio! She's extremely educated and I learned a lot. She doesn't teach a traditional lecture, a big chunk of your grade relies on class participation. She encourages you to "think out loud" So don't be afraid to speak up! No tests, grade is just 4 written assignments and class participation. She's very helpful through email. Utilize that!
Daurio is a great professor. She is very communicative via email, leads great class discussions, and is genuinely interested in hearing the perspective of each student. Very helpful and willing to assist you in salvaging a grade. However, she does have a very "textbook" style of grading, which may or may not be to your benefit.
In no way is this an easy A, but it's so worth it bc you'll learn so much. You have to read a lot and participate in class (or email) but she is so funny and a great teacher. Super good with email so email her a lot! and no tests- just a few written assignments. Highly recommend this professor to anyone.
This is my favorite professor at moorpark. I love daurio. If you are scared of writing assignments she isnt for you. I have taken her twice. She cares to know what you think. If you are passionate about philosophy taking her is a must.
She is not only a wonderful professor. But a great friend. She encourages and inspires me.
Professor Daurio is a wonderful college professor. She does an excellent job of guiding her students through the course material. More importantly, she encourages a culture of meaningful student discussions and debates that greatly assist in understanding her lessons. Her constant feedback was always very motivational.
I love Janice! I took her intro to philosophy honors class and it was really hard for me. Philosophy just isn't my thing. I didn't even end up with the best grade but I can honestly say she is such an interesting, nice, and funny individual. She's a tough professor but if you are good at her kind of class I would highly recommend her!
Daurio is one-of-a-kind. She's a funny and very communicative professor. Participation in her class is a must. It's the primary reason why I received a 'B' instead of an 'A'. So, don't be afraid to join in on the discussion. Also, you can always email her if you feel like you didn't contribute much.
Janice Daurio is the most amazing professor I had at Moorpark. She is so passionate about teaching. She is also SO understanding. Although, this class is challenging if you set your mind to it you can do it. There are no tests. Just papers. NEED BOOK. I highly recommend to take her. Great at emailing. Loves her students.
Janice cares for her students, unlike any professor I have ever had. I am not a philosophy major, but I take philosophy courses just so I can have her as a professor. She is incredible and wants each of her students to succeed, not only in her class, but in life. TAKE HER CLASS. LEARN TO LOVE IT.
Daurio is one of the best professors that I've had. She'll email you right away if you have a question or concern regarding the class, she is very helpful. Do the work and show effort, and you will get an A. She genuinely cares about her students and takes outside events into consideration if you miss a deadline.
Dario will push you to your limits. Took the class as a GE but ended up loving it! She will not only improve your knowledge of philosophy but your writing, how you speak, and your life! She genuinely cares for her students and is so knowledgable. Hard material but worth it. Only take it you are serious and ready to work.
Philosophy itself is very confusing, but Daurio helps you anyway she can to understand it
worst professor ever, harsh grader do not take, also looks into your personal life
If you have the chance to take this class, please do. It is thought provoking and the material is intellectual and makes you work. Daurio is a professor unlike many I have ever taken before. If you put in the effort, you will be satisfied with the grade you get. Quick responses to email and encourages not only your class journey, but your life too.
I'm not a philosophy major but will take more philosophy courses just to be in her class again. She will challenge your views no matter what they are but won't mark you down for disagreeing with her. If you don't like philosophy don't take the class. She's always open to email about any questions you have about philosophy. Take her while you can.
I took this class years ago and the profound impact she had on my life still resonates heavily. I began her class with a serious dislike of Philosophy and intentions of become a Marketing major. After my first class with Dr. Daurio, I took a second. After the second, I became a Philosophy minor. After the third, I became a proud Philosophy major.
Professor Daurio is the best professor I have ever taken. She took the time to get to know me and I learned so much from her, about philosophy, religions, and myself. I was recommended her by a mentor, and I would recommend her class to anyone who has the opportunity to take a class with her.
