Took Janice for 2 classes, Keyboarding and CAPL 1100. She is clear and precise about what she wants and you get the grade you deserve. If you do the work you get an A. If you slack well tough cookie you lost an easy A.
Janice is a ray of sunshine. If you take the class seriously, you will learn a lot. If you have trouble she is always willing to help. I loved going to her classes. I am much more proficient on the computer after taking her classes.
This instructor really knows her stuff and is very professional. It may come across differently to some, but I enjoyed her class. She was always willing to help when I asked for it.
Very good teacher. She keeps you on track so that you can get an A in this course. Very easy A.
I needed some filler credits. Granted I work in the IT field, but even if i didn't I think Normandale found a real ID-10-T. It's hard to believe she can find her way to school, let alone through a textbook. "Can't use a jump-drive, have to use 1980's diskettes". Easy class for a GPA builder.
This teacher is by far the worst i have seen. She is a bitter old hag who is not willing to help unless she is at fault. She is unclear about assignments and deducts points for her incompetance
I knew literally nothing about computer applications when I started this class. She made it easily accessible and even enjoyable. I learned a lot and would definitely take a class from her again.
I really enjoyed talking this class. The teach was strike but she had to be in a class that we only met six times to keep us on track. I found her very helpful and easy to talk to with questions. She is very strike with assignments and won't take them late. We are in college so we should all be grown up to know that.
Keep everything! She my loose things or not put down your grade and hand things back so if it is a zero in her book and you don't have the assignment to show she graded it your out the point due to her unorganized self. Easy class, she is somewhat helpful but don't rely on her for a ton of help or support.
Not very helpful, whenever I asked her a question she would usually snap and/or sound really angry. She really screws you over for assignments, watch out. Overall she seems very unhappy, not a teacher I would recommend.
Worst prof I have ever taken. She treats you like a little child and that you are wasting her time. No help with assignments. If you have no prior knowledge of computers you will fail because you have to teach yourself how to do all the things from the book. Should have gotten an A but because she misplaced a bunch of my assignments I got a B!
Very nice person, but terrible teacher. Only helps with people who dont speak good english. She will lose homework. Grading is unfair. Take it with the other lady.
Let's count the number of times she says "actually" through the course of five minutes. I assure you it will be too many to count on your hands. That's my main (and yes, trivial) complaint; she needs to expand her vocab. She's a helpful teacher, but not a very good one. She's demanding financially and throughout the course. Avoid her.
please, do yourself a favor and avoid this person. i cant believe the ppl who comented her as a good teacher. maybe her personality is tolerable, but she doesnt know how to teach.
She is very unfriendly. Gets mad at the students when they ask questions. Is very condescending.
I didn't like her at all. She had the class taking tests on chapters we didn't get homework back for yet, so not sure how we were supposed to know if we were doing what she expected. Very high expectations. Dings points for EVERYTHING
She lost our assignments and docked us points. She was also unclear on directions and would not listen to our questions - just would say, "yes". Dont even consider taking her class - you are better off with someone else to taking it next semester - she is that bad.
She says actually, basically and literally every other word. This class is pointless if you know anything about computer. It's so dumb. You get docked points if you're sick. She is not a good professor. I would recommend NOT taking this class with her. The textbook is outrageous in price too. And she treats you like a baby too...
This was the online version. She was hard to understand in her directions. It was easy work over all. I disliked going to the 2 meetings, she seemed very mean in person. Was very prompt on homework being graded. Wouldn't recommend her. Online was ok.
Just a message: Don't take her class, or ........
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!! We are not bitter she is very rude and not helpful at all! If you ask her questions she is snoody and rude, and when you ask her for help she says i do not no and will make no attempt to help you even if it means helping with submitting an assignment. She also lost most of my homework! Find a different capl teacher!!
She's unhelpful. Grading doesn't make sense. I took this class online. She isn't willing to help, you must on the ball when you take her class. Directions are most often unclear and you find yourself frustrasted most of the time! Try to avoid taking this professor!!
WORST TEACHER I have ever had at normandale. She tells you at the beginning of class you need to purchase this SAM code thats $70 and we never even used it. She's not helpful, rude, and made several grading mistakes on my homework assignments. This class was a waste of time and money.
If you are willing to practice ever day, this is a class that pays off. I can really type now. I dont feel embarrassed any more at work. Teacher constantly knows if I am doing the work or not. She encouraged me when I almost gave up.
RUN AND RUN FAR! THIS IS BY FAR THE WORST TEACHER AT NCC!! SHES INPATIENT, WONT ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS, RUDE, YELLS, BAD GRADING, LOSES PAPERS CONSTANTLY! The only reason i learned anything was because of the book, which by the way costs over $170!!! WASTE OF MY SUMMER AND MY TIME!!!!
DONT TAKE HER CLASS!!! I've had mean or strict professors but never a VERY RUDE one as her. I emailed her 3 times and no reply. I asked in class and she told me "figure it out yourself." The book is the professor. She talks down to the whole class and is not helpful at all. Im a 3.5 student and I got a C in her course due to lack of help. THE WORST
I was a proficient typer when I began the class, so I didn't really have any trouble with it; however, I wouldn't recommend her at all. She tends to be rude with non-English speakers; she loses assignments and says basically, literally, and actually so much I wanted to bang my head against the wall. I'd definitely go with someone else.
She was fair at grading and gave enough time to complete assignments.
Definitely a hard class. She was so "fair" that it was impossible to work with her. Her class required at least 16 hrs of work a week - literally. If you have the time to put into it - then you might do well. If you don't - find another instructor. She is inflexible and not willing to work with students.
She seems like she hates her job, and it shows. Rude, especially to immigrants, not helpful even when you ask questions. "Basically, Literally, Actually..." She can't get enough of those words. She really gives me the impression that she's just counting the days till retirement and going through the motions till then.
Basically, Actually, Literally, she truly does say those words constantly. She's very rude and impatient with immigrants. Your keyboarding final grade is mostly based on your typing speed, if you start the class with good typing speed, you should do fine, even test out of the class in 3 weeksand you're done. I had no typing experience and got a C.
She was incredibly helpful and informative with the condensed coursework. Took online in Summer - so the work goes fast. Pay attention to the syllabus and DO THE WORK and you'll be fine. She gives EC for work 'above and beyond' and it paid off to add a little extra with receiving an 'A'. Good teacher!
Currently taking the online course, you not only need to use standard d2l but also need subscriptions to SAM and Coursemate. Not very clear on assignments and quite rude and ignorant when communicating directly with her. Her class size in my current class already has been reduced by 50% and its only week 3. AVOID!
Everyone's rating for this professor is pretty much accurate. I haven't experienced her "rude" side but she does take forever to respond to emails. The overall class is confusing. If you have a lot of free time you can do well in this class. The class is confusing and stressful. I don't recommend. Too many assignments for a 3credit class.
Very workload intensive, pretty much doing 10+ hours work every week. She does not explain the work well at all, and the grade book is hard to understand and know how well you are doing.
Run for your life.
This professor is absolutely terrible. This is a 3 credit course, and the workload is absolutely insane. Schedule and syllabus make no sense. It is SO confusing to try and keep up with all the assignments on all the different websites (like 3 different websites, including D2L). Do NOT take IT Concepts & Software w/ this professor.
I worked like crazy to get my A. Keyboarding seems like such an easy clas, but I had to unlearn all the bad habits I had before. Some students were done in 7 weeks because they had typing before. I needed the 16 weeks and aced it the last day. Me and my buddy are glad we took it. LOL, he got a B.
Janice is a good teacher. She's not an easy A. Her class is challenging in order to meet high trasferability requirements set forth by MNSCU. The workload is heavy, but do-able. Many assignments are pre-scheduled so you may work ahead. Additional assignments are scheduled based on other factors of the class. Don't be scared, just do the work.
Does not reply to emails in a timely manner. Instead of a syllabus, gives a summary of what you should have completed last week. She is not organized. Due dates, quiz dates are not clear. Too many different websites, all with different assignments, quizzes and tests - some of which she tells you about; others she doesn't. Take with anyone but her!
In all of my years of post secondary education this person was the absolute worst instructor I've ever suffered through. Online course instructions were the most incoherent confusing mess I've ever seen. She uses four websites for assignments with different due dates and similar assignment names. DONT. TAKE. THIS. COURSE. WITH. HER.
Spent about 15 hrs a week on the assignments. It's confusing to set up the 3 websites since she doesn't tell you what all of the different codes are for. Hard to keep track of assignments.
Online assignments can be a bit challenging and time consuming. But otherwise no complaints got a high B. Also took this same class with a different professor before and I could really tell how much he didn't give a crap compared to her.
her class was hard, and if you complain about a hard class your not cut out for college. she def makes you EARN your grade. She was very helpful and understanding with me this semester in the event of a friends disappearance and death. talk to her about your struggles and she is MORE than accommodating
This is one of the worst professors at Normandale. She constantly has an attitude, the discussions are inconsistent with this course. She expects 3-5 topic post at 200-250 words each discussion. Ridiculous. 3 different sites for homework. Emails replies are after the project and she respond as if she can't read plain English structured emails.
I am currently spending 12+ hours a week on a 3 credit course. The teacher seems to be rude and arrogant. She's not helpful with coursework at all! DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!
I'm a 4.0 student. I took this class against my better judgement after reading these reviews - I regret it. The material is easy but Janice is a TERRIBLE teacher. She sets her students up for failure. Assignments have asinine instructions. SLOW e-mail response times. She's UNHELPFUL. Use another teacher for a better experience. You've been warned
Listen to all the people on these reviews, she is AWFUL. Grades your things inconsistent with the syllabus, AWFUL at responding to emails, had to have multiple assignments relooked over because she graded wrong. No idea how she is a teacher. Took 1.5 weeks to get an email response in a 5 week course. Everything is SO UNCLEAR and she admits it. RUN!
She has daily dates/varying times that assignments & tests are due w/ confusing instructions. You get 2 makeups. No late work is accepted even if you have a valid reason. She's slow to grade & respond, is not helpful and doesn't seem to get the point of learning or teaching. Work ahead & plan for a lot of time spent as well as needless frustration!
Doesn't respond to emails. Doesn't like to answer ?s. Doesn't care if you learn material. Tests on material not taught in class or in book. Doesn't give enough time for on-line exams through the publisher. Three weeks out of the semester, she gives 7 examsprojects!!!! This should be a 5 units. Don't take a class from Hardin at Normandale. RUN!
Avoid this teacher at all costs. She isn't there for the students.
Janice Hardin is the WORST teacher I have ever had. She has no interest in helping her students succeed. She is the queen of unnecessary obstacles, she takes forever to respond to emails and she requires enough coursework to satisfy a 5 credit course. Shame on Normandale for allowing someone so vile to teach at their college.
Doesn't understand what "Tutorial" means. Wont let you work along with her during the class. Extremely hard to communicate with. Likes to respond at 4:59Pm when office hours end of Pm. The class is written by Microsoft. Take it online. The instructor makes the class more difficult by creating convoluted calendars and instructions.
She is inflexible and headstrong when it comes to grading. Doesn't respond to emails in a timely manner. Due dates are not clear; often have assignments due that she doesn't warn you about until the day of. Hard to keep up with everything. Has a test every day of the week on test weeks. Would NOT take another class with her.
An absolutely pathetic excuse for a Professor. If you're considering taking any class she teaches, you should probably re-evaluate why you make so many poor life choices. If you're searching for a better alternative, I would suggest looking in to a class taught by one of the campus squirrels.
Avoid at all costs.
Boring, so, so boring. This is a class about Microsoft Office Applications and it's boring already but she's just awful. She says literally and basically way too much and she sometimes doesn't know what to do, even though SHE'S THE TEACHER. This class could easily be taken online, a computer seems like a better teacher than her; even when it's off.
Honestly I've had worse teachers. I haven't had a problem with her responding to emails and so long as you do the homework the class is easy. She doesn't accept late work so budgeting time wisely in this class is important. Also she has tests and quizzes on an almost weekly basis if not more frequent. Not a class you can afford to fall behind in.
I am honestly not sure how Janice Hardin is still allowed to teach this class. This is a 3 credit class and I spent close to 20 hours a week on it. Instructions are not clear, there are projects due 4 days a week and you are expected to write over 200 words for discussion posts or you will not get full credit. If you get stuck with her, I am sorry
A lot of homework! I found her to be helpful, though. She's a bit unapproachable, but still willing to help.
Way too much work and very unorganized/confusing schedules.
very unclear/confusing giving instructions unwilling to help, gives you load of assignments and short notices when it's due. Won't let you ask questions makes you feel like an idiot. it's a 3 credit course but she makes it feel like a 5 credit. Don't even bother taking her she won't update grades and expect you to be on time with everything

I highly recommend not taking this course with this teacher. Terrible attitude and is very unclear in her instructions on homework assignments. There's a lot of assignments due each week to (based on points) so if you fall behind good luck trying to recover because you only get two make-ups.
Took this class online. The syllabus stated the week begins on Sunday, ends on Saturday. However, on Fridays you are sent a message reminding you that next week you must take a chapter pre test, read the entire chapter, and take the chapter post test by which are all due by Sunday evening or NO CREDIT! In essence it is a 9 day week that overlaps!!
The prof does not have good faith in her students. Her online class is unbelievably disorganized between the D2L, posts, discussions, grade information, and SAM exercises, there is next to nothing that is orderly or makes logical sense. Be prepared to chase down assignments and due dates as it's not even organized on the same calendar.
Just do the homework and you will pass. Dont push the class off like its a easy A class bc its not. Do the work and you will do fine
I made an account to warn other students about this professor. In my entire academic career of 8 years I've never felt the need to do this. Janice assigns a ridiculous amount of tedious homework. She provides no help when the system does not grade your work properly. She responded to my emails once, (emailed her 7 times), and was rude all semester.
I've never taken a more disorganized class. So much homework with little to no help from teacher. Also, this should have been a 6 credit course as there are two textbooks and two sets of assignments and testing.
DO NOT take this class during summer time. This class will be okay to take it during 16 weeks semester. There is so much work you have to do. quizzes, discussions, ton of homework, SAM excites and cost of mandatory 900 page book ($225) must read to past the class. I have nothing against this professor. But if you take this class be ready to work!
The entire class was pretty self-explanatory. She sent out emails the first two weeks to remind students of the deadlines and the expectations. Easy online discussions that were also interesting. There are lots of encouraged opportunities that you don't hear much about. You've got assignments on Cengage, online discussions, and D2L quizzes.
Terrible. I have been attending Normandale for almost two years, she is by far the worst professor I have had here. Disrespectful and condescending describe my communication with her when she would get back to me... The online course is very disorganized and not clear to follow, SAM is another word for hell. This class is unnecessary.
She is awful. It takes her days at a time to respond to emails, if she even gets to them. There is so much unnecessary homework that she gives out because she doesn't know what to do during class. Grades are very behind. Extremely disrespectful to students when she speaks to them, and she also won't grade assignments if they aren't in a folder.
DO NOT take this class unless it's required, maybe find a different professor. Weekly quizzes on one book about computers that aren't enough time & some questions have up to 15 vocab words(lots of reading); weekly projects (at least 3) on another topic, & almost weekly discussions on a completely different topic. LOTS of work and awful grading!
Horrible, horrible teacher! If you ask her a question she will get mad at you, if you will ask her more and more questions (because she is so bad at explaining and helping) she will yell at you and make you look stupid in front of the whole class. Also, when I got the wrong grade for one of my tests, she never fixed it and told me its not her fault
She makes you feel as if your not welcome to her class. She sucks at teaching. Wastes your time!!! Class is an hour and a half long but any in class homework or testing she barely even gives you an hour to complete. Tough grader because she won't budge on anything, you literally need to be perfect or else she becomes an ass
Completely disorganized. Online class assignments are not organized by due date, and could be in 1 of 4-5 places. The software is buggy as all hell, and when I emailed her asking why I was docked pts for things that were clearly on the paper, she said she couldn't understand me and to make an appointment to see her. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!
WORST professor Ive ever had. She doesn't care about her students AT ALL. Not accommodating/understanding. Be careful on online assignments because you could miss a whole section since it is not in order by due date. On assignments, expect to get points off when you did everything correct bc it is computer-graded. Don't expect help from her either.
If you have the option, I beg you NOT to take this professor. She will not look out for your success and seems to want you to fail. She piles on tests and doesn't even grade them herself. If you have any problems with grading, she will NOT fix them. A college class should never be this frustrating. Please take ANYONE other than her if ur able to!!
Alright, I would not even say it is graded by a few things, it is that SHE grades ONLY discussions, and leaves all the hard work to an automatic grading system on Cengage that has many problems where you lose points. Though she only grades discussions, she is LATE to grade them by weeks to a month. Most work I've ever done for a 3 credit class.
I dont recommend this teacher. She is nice most of the time but can get impatient. If you need her to open something up or regrade something, DO NOT EXPECT HER TO GET BACK TO YOU. Her lectures were pretty boring and I didnt learn anything new in them really. She takes attendance and expects students to be in class. Probably take a different prof.
Literally everything for this class is graded by a computer program. This professor only grades the discussions. Not sure what the point of her as a teacher is if the computer is going to do all the work? Literally so much work for 3 credit class; it's ridiculous. Make sure you have a Windows and not a Mac so that's cool (not).
GET READY FOR LOTS OF HOMEWORK! This is one of the worst professors and classes I have taken. She doesn't answer emails, her entire class is based on an external program (cengage) that routinely has issues, and she has useless class discussions posts that are required for points. All in all if you work hard it's an easy B+ but wow... the homework..
She is not helpful at all if you have questions. The grading system for projects sucks the computer grades it and does a bad job.
Unwilling to work with you, never responds to emails, puts her faults on to you, & makes an easy class way more difficult than it needs to be. The course is useful and quite fun honestly, but because a computer grades everything, there are errors & she will not work with you to fix them, resulting in unfair grades. Find a diff prof for the course.
the work is graded by a computer SAM errors or wrong clicks make it difficult to get the grade deserved. Just failed a quiz because a click of the mouse kicks off the question and gives a fail. when addressed concerns with the professor I get condescending answers and not clarification no room for small errors here. Suggest different professor
As other reviews have noted, it is an online software that grades which can be difficult sometimes. Don't fall behind-things are due on the date and not later. The work itself can be simple so it really comes down to your priorities. Being an online course, I don't really have anything against the professor.
The course is great, just try to find a different prof to take it with. She ruins a very easy and fun class. There is a lot of work but its simple to do if you get your questions answered (which is rare with her). She will not answer questions, instead will be rude and make you feel like you're stupid. She does not care about her students at all.
She is so rude. She doesn't lift a finger the system grades everything. Do not ask her questions she will make you feel dumb, Do not email her she will be rude, Do everything the system says to a T. She does not care about you. If you do take this professor understand what you are getting into. Assignments are due randomly throughout the week.
Does not respond to communication via email, or she will in partial. Due dates are found in multiple places so they are easy to miss. Her method of posting assignments prevents any assignments from showing up on programs Normandale uses to track your work. Have had a terrible experience with this professor trying to get a straightforward direction.
Some teachers are not meant to be teachers. Some teachers are not meant to be teaching online classes. These two statement goes for this professor. SAM grades all your work. She dosnt seem to lift a finger for her students nor care about their success. Take a different professor.
Overall easy course, but professor makes it difficult because of the structure of the course. Assignments will be placed in different locations and is easy to miss them. If module one is in one place the reset of the module will be placed elsewhere. And all grading is done through SAM. Rendering the professor redundant.
Janice Hardin, leaves much to be desired in a professor. To start D2LBright the program used by Normandale has a poor layout and can be confusing with information located within multiple of different links.Professor Hardin does not teach the class. Hardin will not extend due date out past a week even with difficult circumstances.
This professor is hands down the worst teacher I have ever had. She does not care about her students success and is impossible to contact. I warn you to stay clear of her if at all possible.
This class was a real struggle - the professor is quite unhelpful and seems disengaged. Avoid this professor if possible - the course is graded entirely by an auto-grading system with many issues. Using unstuck study helped me get through it.
Cengage is your enemy in this class. The SAM tests are very touchy. One wrong click and it'll mark the question as incorrect. I would not take this class just because of Cengage. Other than that the homework is heavy. Expect 3 assignments every week + 2 multiple choice quizzes/mini tests.
Extremely condescending.
