She is a wonderful instructor!!! Extremely helpful, her office hours are before and after class, especially helpful before exams. Labs are super fun!!! Even though I got an A, you really do have to study. If you put in the work, you will get an A too!!! I highly recommend, I had a blast!!!

This class requires a LOT of memorization, and is not an easy course, but I felt that Prof Lai was a fair teacher and had wonderful organization. This is probably one of the first science courses at ACC that I feel I actually walked away retaining information. Test normally include a couple "review" questions, and she doesn't dumb things down.

Hard teacher. Tests really need to be studied for. She does notes through the lecture slides. You really have to pay attention and take good notes from lecture to understand her notes. Tests always have "review" questions from previous test. Test are not easy.

Janice is WONDERFUL! She is extremely helpful and patient. She has always replied to my emails and has met with me several times outside of class. She truly loves her job and is great at it! The material is difficult-but she rocks! Those who disagree were prolly looking for a blow off class or got caught cheating. I wish she taught 1407 too :(

Janice is amazing, she begins each lecture reviewing what was taught the previous lecture-very helpful. The tests are difficult but exactly follow the notes-take notes! The pre/post labs are long but its departmental-not her own doing. The only questions she does not answer are about what exactly is on the test which is fair. I highly recommend!

One of the BEST teachers I ever had. Much integrity. She is brilliant, enthusiastic, fun and interesting. Always available to help via e-mail or in her office. Always extra credit on tests. Lab assignments are easy points. Always clear what she expects you to know. Not easy but, show-up, do the work, you'll enjoy, learn a lot and get an A.

The best, most intelligent, enthusiastic instructor I have ever had! Motivates you to learn...She is challenging and makes you really pay attention to everything. I highly recommend her to everyone! You will learn so much and be completely prepared for the next level. She is fantastic!

Janice was and amazing Biology teacher, Yeah there are a lot of Pre and Post labs but she's very helpful. Plus if you're not will to do the work then don't even think about taking this class because you're going to be taking up someone else's chance of getting her for a Professor!!

This class was my least troublesome class this semster although some previous students seem to think that it was difficult. I disagree. This class did require lots of work but it was simple work and Janice used powerpoints, printed out notes, repetition, short films to make the class quite doable. very organized. will take this professor again.

Very interesting and teaches you what you need to know. Very fun, nice class, easy to follow. Make sure you go to her lectures and you'll be alright. Plus she's super nice!!

I was extremely nervous taking this class after a 10 year break from school. If you show up, take notes, ask questions when unsure, do the homework, you will do well in the class. Janice is very patient and is willing to spend the time with you if needed. I took the same class ten years prior and made a "D" I ended up with an "A" in her class.

She made Biology fun, well almost. Make sure you take lots of notes and don't miss a lecture and you will do well. She is super nice and knows her stuff.

Honestly, one of the best teachers I have ever had. Biology is not easy but she was excellent at explaining it. She made it fun and I still remember her lessons even a year later. I would definitely take her again! Attend the lectures and the lab and you will have a clear understanding of the subject.

If you come to every class and take notes this class is cake. She really looks for every reason to give you points on a test. She truly cares about all students and knows everyone's names the 2nd class period. Phenomenal!!

I really appreciated this teacher! This class was not easy at all but with her helpful lectures, it definitely gave me a good grade in this class! Never be late because she starts right on time and she tells you in her lectures EVERYTHING you need to know on the test so take good notes!She is also very helpful so don't be afraid to go in 4 tutoring

Great professor, one of the few who are really good at what they do. 1406 is a very difficult class but Janice is a very good lecturer. Very fair and available during office hours. She has a photographic memory for students' names which is pretty cool. It is no secret why her 1406 class fills up first each semester.

Amazing Teacher! Always enthusiatic to teach and willing to help and clarify. I love that she reviews when class begins and I wish she would teach 1407. I got a B even though I didn't take one of her two laboratory exams, so I don't see how anyone would fail. Its a lot of info, but Janice teaches in an amazing way. I can Remember!!! :)

she gives you all the information that is going the test (you have to study hard though!) labs are easy if you have a good lab group .There are post labs after every lab and she gives you a week to finish them. Our lab group often had to visit the learning lab to get them done even though we were always the first/second group to get the lab done

She is really as amazing as the reviews state. This is NOT an easy class, but she is so well organized that it makes everything seem easier. She lays out her expectations from the very first day. She expects you to be on time and have your work complete by the due date. Her exams are based on her lectures..no tricky stuff. Highly recommend.

Never rated anyone before but felt I owe it to her. What an amazing lady, she's so passionate about the subject, very easy to approach too! Her lectures are very interesting, I looked forward to coming to class every day! Study hard on the exams, revisit your old ones since some questions will be in the next test. I came out with an A, STUDY STUDY!

Janice Lai is the best professor I have ever had. You don't need the textbook. Just go over the slides she hands out in class. Everything is organized and easy to understand. This is my first year in college and Dr. J was easily my favorite professor. The course is a little hard, but she is such a wonderful teacher. She REALLY cares about her students, and takes the time to get to know each and every one of them. Don't buy the textbook, she hands out her power point slides at the beginning of each class.

Janice is by far the best professor I've had. Very knowledgeable and passionate about the material. She knows how to teach and how to make it stick. She makes class interesting and genuinely cares about her students. You don't even need the textbook. Just show up ON TIME and pay attention and you'll do fine.

I did study quite a bit for her class, however, the powerpoints are SO well explained it's hard to fail. She loves her students and only wants the best for them. She is an excellent teacher. Had no trouble with her. She is particular about missing tests and quizzes so you must bring in a doctor's note or something to prove you weren't just skipping to make those up. Other than that, she is super chill. She literally tells you everything you need to know for the tests in her lectures. RECOMMENDED

Dr. Lai was the best professor I have ever had. I did not think this class would be even remotely interesting. Turns out I am now a biology major because she inspired me. She is so helpful and enthusiastic about her job. It is contagious. She teaches the material in a way to ensure success. I HIGHLY recommend her class.

Professor obviously knows the material. She loves her job & it shows by the amount of care she gives to her students' concerns. Her enthusiasm makes learning tough material easy & fun. Seriously one of the best teachers I've ever had. She's passionate about what she teaches and makes the class really fun and interesting. Attendance to her labs are mandatory (lab quizzes) however. Shes great at explaining materials and passionate about her subject. She grades in a timely fashion and fairly, and she always encourages her students to double-check her grading math to make sure you get all your points. She gives great feedback on questions and on assignments. Tests are tough, but she reviews the previous material EVERY lecture.

Expects you to really know the concepts of the lecture material enough to apply to different scenarios. Memorizing doesn't work. Not necessary to buy the text book, though I found it helpful. Helpful to record lectures--she speaks fast! Gives partial credit for all tries and will very helpful in office hours. Study, don't skip class or any work!

Biology has always been tough for me to understand. I struggled on the lecture exams (LOTS of material on each exam), but she is an amazing professor. She talks fast, but very easy to understand and she's passionate about her subject. Expect to put a lot of time into her work though.

Janice is an amazing teacher, definitely one of my absolute favorites of all time. I never had to buy the book. Everything she tests you on is in her notes. She does not give reviews because she goes over everything from the previous lecture in the beginning of each class. You are only allowed to miss one lab day or you are dropped. Highly recomend

This is a pretty difficult class but she does a lot of work to get you to pass. VERY STRICT LATE POLICY. Do not show up late. Don't expect to get a grade for late work. Attendance policy is pretty strict so you can't miss class without documentation. All that said, she makes the content easier to understand. You're going to need to study though.

Janice is awesome and probably one of the best professors I've had. Went into this class thinking it was going to be an easy A, but oh was I wrong. She makes you work for it, but she also understands this stuff it difficult and is always willing to help. My advice, pour you heart out on every single question (quizzes, tests, and labs).

A wonderful class if you need to build up a science background. Explains in the simplest way possible. Concepts will be very useful in the future. I struggled in this class because I had no science background but she explained in ways I will always remember. Bring a tape recorder and stay organize with it or keep it for future use. Worth it !

The class is an excellent foundation for a science degree. She explains the lessons clearly and thoroughly. Her lectures are interesting and her passion for the subject is rubbed off on her students. Great professor! You will definitely have to work for your grade but you will also learn an incredible amount along the way.

Her syllabus shows EXACTLY what u need 4 the grade u want there is no curve. Write your report after the lab & ask her 2 look it over & u wil get an A guaranteed if u don't it could drop grade She has 2 much coffee for her morning lectures but she tries to make sure u understand the material if u don't ask she will clarify. I would take her again.

This class was pretty easy and she teaches in a way that helps you remember the information better. Only advice i would give is to not do anything last min. Easy A if you try and do the work. Great Prof.

AMAZING Prof. The exams are super detailed. I recommend you record her lectures and listen to them since she doesn't assign any textbook reading. She really cares about her students but is also very picky about labs (make sure you explain EVERYTHING) and Lecture exams cover a lot of detailed info.

Dr. J is a great professor. She loves the subject and teaches very well. She is a tough grader though. So, if you don't 100 percent understand and explain 100,000 percent then she will doc points.

Amazing biology prof, very passionate about the topics which makes you excited too. Always in a good mood and energetic. If you ask a Q in class which she doesn't know, she will do research and respond with the answer. If you pay attention/take notes during the lecture and study for an hour, you'll probably get all As on the exams. SHOW YOUR WORK!

She is anal-retentive , she will tell you that herself on the first day, so attendance and punctuality is a must. Make sure you do the post-labs to her expectations and study for the exams and you will do fine!

By far one of the best professors that I have had so far. She covers a lot of material which is what makes her class difficult. That being said her lectures are interesting. She communicates very well and is easy to understand. She is really good at explaining complex concepts and biological processes. Her test can be very hard, so study a lot!

I took Micro Biology with her and she is fantastic!!! There are 4 lecture exams and 2 lab exams. She gives you notes on in the lecture that relates almost exactly with the textbook, and then she reviews what she taught last class every day. "Hint hint hint" means it is going to be on the test. Pre-lab quiz every lab day, but super easy. Love her!!!

Hardest class I've ever taken. If you miss a class you might miss a whole section on the test. Tons of material in one class. She's super helpful if you try to reach up to her. If you're not a science person, don't take her

Hands down one of my absolute favorite professors I have ever taken. Although this class is very tough, nothing is better than a teacher with enthusiasm and enjoyment about what she is teaching! So kind too! She's a very picky grader, however if you follow her instructions she grades everything the same. Everything needed is in the lectures!

Shes great! Made my semester bearable and she was very friendly and funny throughout the entire semester. Read your lecture notes and do well on lab and its an easy Class. But! Make sure you go into detail when reading. Sometimes it helps when you study in groups as well thats what helped me the most.

She hints at material that will be heavily covered in a test so keep an eye out. She can be a little nit picky with grading but nothing extreme. Professor Lai is the BEST professor to take Cellular/Molecular Biology with. She made this course fun, interesting, and easy to understand. She tells you from the beginning when you will have a quiz, when your postlabs are due, and she goes by the deadlines in the syllabus.

Her energy helps you focus and she really cares about the subject. Every test is short answer so you have to know the material, but this gives you more opportunity to earn partial credit. She provides you with slides if you show up and is always available and accommodating in certain situations. Take this class if you're a STEM major for sure.

She is kind and funny, and definitely available outside of class to help you. She is a tough grader but provides plenty of feedback. She's a professor that is full of energy and is pretty entertaining. Don't be late to class if something is due!! She is very strict on deadlines and does not allow late work (even if it's a minute late). She is very organized, and teaches efficiently and effectively. Tests are cumulative, so there is no final.

Dr. Lai is an amazing professor, although her exams can be challenging - she fully prepares you as her lectures are so thorough and clear. I still remember the concepts she drilled in my head a year ago, and she's also very sweet and is willing to reach out and help if you are lost or need additional help.

Dr. J is a fantastic professor. She takes a class as complicated and difficult as biology and makes it as straight-forward and easy to understand as possible. She's very good at communicating, and is more than willing to re-explain a concept multiple times. Exams don't hold any kind of surprises, as she's very specific about what will be on it.

Professor Lai was the best. I wish all my teachers were like her. Her lectures are clear, concise, and directly relate to what's on the tests. She will let you know if something is important to know. You do a lab write up every week, some are long some are short. No homework besides that. She prints up the powerpoints for you. Very helpful!

Dr. Janice is the best, she's extremely direct and forthcoming with what she expects from you regarding what you should know for exams and quizzes. As long as you go to class every week and pay attention you will learn everything you need to know and get a good grade.

Dr. J. is a fantastic professor!!! No homework, prelab quizzes and postlabs due on Mondays, 4 tests, 2 lab exams, and no homework. DO NOT BE LATE BECAUSE SHE RUNS A TIGHT SHIP! This is not a hard class! She gives giant clues as to what will be on tests. Careful, thoughtful, detailed answers are a must! She makes the BEST BROWNIES in the WORLD, too!

I absolutely loved Professor Lai! Biology is a difficult class to take, all around. Of course her lectures had a-lot of information, but that is to be expected. Overall. she is very helpful and gives well explained lectures. She was always happy to answer any questions. My favorite professor so far! Take her if you have the opportunity to!

Professor Lai is the best professor I've had yet! While attendance isn't mandatory for lecture, I would highly recommend attending. Dr. J does an amazing job of explaining the lecture material and will happily answer questions. There's no homework, however, there are pre-lab quizzes (super easy), 4 lecture exams, and 2 lab exams.

Professor Lai is amazing! This class can be difficult but she makes it enjoyable. If you attend class you will be just fine! She reviews the material a lot & everything she teaches is related to the test. She is also very funny and sweet! She has a little bit of an accent but she is still very clear.

I am currently in Dr J's Bio 1406 class (my last week). I think shes a great professor! She made me love biology so much. I am honestly so bummed I can't take her class in person because of covid. You have to study hard but its worth it and she is great at explaining the topics. I would take her class many times over if I could.

Dr. Lai is an incredible professor, and I will miss her class. It is rigorous, but she discusses the material incrementally rather than just throwing information at you and expecting you to understand it. She's a tough grader, but her enthusiasm for the material is so contagious that you'll want to work that much harder. This is the prof you want!

This class in NOT an easy A. I studied almost everyday and met with a study partner every single Saturday for the whole semester and managed to crank out a B. Her lectures can be long but nothing she tells you is useless. She has a review on every lecture exam so don't forget what you learned in previous units. She is an awesome professor.

She isn't a tough grader + offered extra credits. This class is not hard to get A . The prelabs is super easy, just read and do the prelab section, listen her live lab class, she mostly answer poslab. Watching all her prerecorded lectures(1hr/each chapter),online resources, her reviews to get A on lecture exams. There is no secret to get A.

Professor J is so sweet, she is very smart and knows the material. She is willing to help on any assignments before theyre due and has a lot of office hours and emails back quickly. She doesnt accept late work but she reminds you about deadlines every class so its never a surprise. I only got a C because I didnt turn in my post labs for a bit.

Professor Lai is great. Her lectures are pretty heavy and long but she really makes it interesting. She is a pretty tough grader, but willing to help you with assignments before turning them in. I really enjoyed her class.

It is a difficult class and her grading is tough, but she is willing to completely explain everything in depth so you won't miss whatever it is on future tests/assignments. Lectures are organized and she gives you a very good sense as to what will be tested.

Dr Janice grades REALLY tough, but she explicitly tells you what she is looking for. This class takes a lot of time and the pre-recorded lectures are very long. If you take notes on all of them, she gives huge clues as to what will be tested on. She is incredibly nice, and answers all communication very quickly.

Dr J is a very good and fun teacher. Her explanations' are clear and concise. Just paying attention in her class will get you an A as each lecture is your study guide and she hints towards important topics that will show up on the exam. Her feedback is very good and I recommend you take it as they're very helpful for post labs and lab exams.

She truly cares about her students and while she grades tough she also gives lots of free test questions! Wonderful, energetic lectures and teaches the exact test material! A very eccentric professor who cares a lot about the topics. Very easy to understand and simplifies things down to understandable levels which is especially nice for cellular respiration. There is no homework. My only complaint is that the information is repeated over and over so many times (for memorization) that I've lost my mind a few times.

Her labs were also engaging and exciting. she is relaxed enough to make it a chilled course; but strict enough to actually get you to learn and engage.

I went to a whole different campus just to take dr j class and 10000% worth it. She is always super engage in lectures and it makes it so much easier to understand the material and the concepts in the class. Very picky on how she wants certain things but It's not bad. She wants all of her students to succeed by far was my fav science class ever!!!

Janice is a passionate professor who makes the material engaging. She provides clear test guidance and is always willing to help. While challenging, the class is manageable with consistent effort. Unstuckstudy and the free textbook make great study resources.

Prof. Lai is a great professor, but the one downfall that I felt with her over many of my other professors is that she offers very little extra credit, and this is a *difficult* class where extra credit would be extremely helpful. This being said, she does her best to answer questions and clarify as much as possible, and is easy to learn from.

Professor Janice is an awesome lecturer and teacher. The only thing I dislike about this class is the difficulty of the tests is extreme, and she offers barely any extra credit at the very beginning of the semester. Also is a very hard grader in labs and tests. Def need to work hard and give this class a lot of time and effort.

I took her for my fall semester, and she was amazing!! I have accommodations, and she talked to me one-on-one about them in order to ensure my needs were properly met in her class. Also, make sure you study and do your work! That will help tremendously on the tests/exams, as it's hard to get by if you slack off on stuff

Amazing professor, made biology fun to learn. Tests were mostly if not all from lecture, so attend and take notes, she provides print-outs of the slides. Labs and homework weren't too bad and were kinda fun. I studied by reorganizing and rewriting the slides into my own notes, and aced every test easily. Just study and you'll do great

The lectures are great in detail, she goes over the material multiple times cuz she actually cares that we learn biology. Overall, the class is good and resourceful. Extra credit does not exist in this course. Grading tho, on quizzes and exams, the answer can be correct, but if you forget minor things such as units, she will deduct points off.

I LOVE HER, she's amazing for this class. She repeats things a lot, and the repetition helps so much with actually learning the content. She is super helpful and will answer questions outside class. You can send her your postlabs and she will give you feedback and if you change it you get 100%. PLEASE TAKE HER, you won't regret it if you work hard.

I loved her!! She reviews the previous lecture every day in class, so you really only get 1 hour of new content per class. She doesn't accept late work but will remind you every day about upcoming deadlines. Be VERY specific on tests and post labs.
