She is a really crappy teacher. I haven't really learned anything from her.
She is not a good teacher. Taught the long way around subjects. Less then 10 people passed the class. NOT A TEACHER TO TAKE
Extremely difficult to understand. She doesn't grade papers on time. She doesn't hand back assignments, tests back so students know how they did. Her lectures are very unpleasant and it is hard to stay awake in class. Avoid this teacher!!!!!!
Doesn't know book well, syllabus is not organized, doesn't help you, just expects you to understand her lectures. Don't be fooled by her past experience.
Don't know what these other people were thinking. I thought she was a great teacher. Took the time to help everyone in the class understand. Very friendly.
Does not know her subject. Loves talking about the time when she used to go to school, when she worked in Vegas, and that a friend of hers wrote a book and did not give her any credit. About math......To learn just read the book and teach yourself.
I thought she was a very good instructor-- she just happens to have many immature kids in her classes that aren't respectful.
In one word, HORRIBLE. She talked throughout the entire lecture, nothing really having to do with the chapter we were suppossed to be on. On tests, she would put problems she didn't talk about and when we complained she would make up a pointless excuse. Avoid her at all costs!
VERY LOUSY. HOW DO THEY HIRE TEACHERS LIKE THIS?
Strange professor. She doesn't introduce material that well and only uses book examples to explain the material. My grade was earned because of the work I invested in teaching myself the material in the class. She is an incredibly nice person, just not a very good professor.
I thought she was an awesome professor. Clear, helpful and genuinly enjoys the subject. I would reccomend this instructor!
Does talk a lot about stuff not about the chapter. Her tests are long and some problems are really tough, she lieks tecahing, but sometimes it is difficult to follow. Had better maht teaches at CSUB
I thought she was very helpful. A lot of kids in the class talked bad about her, but those kids didn't understand, or care to understand, statistics. When you ask her a question, she takes the time to explain things. She was a good as a math teacher can be.
She's a nice and helpful professor, but sometimes her leture is really boring. The tests are tended to be easy. by the way, you don't really need to do the homework.
Dr. Malouf was very concerned in making sure everyone understood the concepts. If you made it clear that it was important to do well in her class, she made sure you were taken care of. Boring sometimes? Sure! But it's college. Take her if you're genuinely interested in understanding and passing the class. Apathy isn't appreciated.
I thought she was a great teacher. She tries to keep you as entertained as possible and I found her quite humorous at times. She likes to take long breaks, which I enjoyed because it was 3 hour class and I just can't take in that much without a good break, but other students got frustrated because they would have rather got out early. She tries
She's super helpful and I learned a lot from her. She's also fairly laid back and usually available for answering questions.
horrible and BORING
Overall, she's really nice but when it comes to teaching, she sort of mumbles and is really hard to understand. I don't feel like I learned anything in that class.
Dr. Malouf is a great teacher. This was my first college level math class, plus it's been over twenty years since my last math class! She is very personable and approachable, despite being quite obviously brilliant.
This class is for sharp students, if you don't pick things up quickly prepare to study. The class is very much passable for anyone, just dedicate yourself to it. 3 professors choose Malouf
This Professor talks like there are only 3 students in her classroom. What I think is she doesn't plan anything for her discussion; she look at the board from another Professors Stat class and explain it to us, as if we already go over through it, and arrive on lab days late because of printing our lab materials.
Don't take this class. She is awful. Extremely boring and rambles on during lecture thinking that her students care.
this professor is horrible, do not take her she does not teach well, her lectures are useless, does not collect hw or take attendance, labs are mandatory but lectures are a waste of time she is the worst math professor your gonna end up teaching urself. she goes over hw but never tells u how u got the answer. overall do not take her!
diffclt class in gen but she's nice, interesting sense of humor& dsn't lke people tlking/not paying attention in class. lenient during tests-will give hints.hw not mandatory, labs are-but lets u makeup if u miss. notes 4 tests. she knows what's imprtnt& what isn't, teaches u how to use a calculator for everythng..makes class much easier!recommended!
i had her for a lab and i dropped it after the first 2 times. she isn't a nice person and she's kind of snide when you ask for help. she drove me crazy and i honestly didn't even like her as a person. i recommend staying away from her.
Very blunt and abrasive when speaking to students, sometimes she is no help at all. The class is not that challenging but she makes it harder by being so difficult to communicate with. A little disorganized and inconsistent with grading tests. No homework assignments, and tests are not too difficult. Good person, bad teacher.
This is the second class I have taken with her and have not had a problem. She does her lecture and answers questions when asked. I think people just need to pay attention, cause she goes over what you should learn.
cool teacher but get mad at small things.
If you expect to LEARN math...do not take a class at CSUB. If you already know math have fun. CSUB has the worst math department in the STATE. If you value your gpa. take math somewhere else. These teachers do not teach. CSUB math teachers blame the government for their lack of teaching skills. They say they can't teach cause the Gov. takes their $
They need to get rid of the math teachers at CSUB. Look up Kurt Klopstein and see the difference between a REAL math teacher and the JOKERS at CSUB. If you want to learn math take it from someone who teaches it. The math professors at CSUB do not teach AT ALL. You must learn to teach yourself complex math if you have any hope of making grades.
Slow, not to the point, confuses students by beating around the bush and giving hazy answers. Makes class boring and gives harder questions on test than she teaches in class and gives as homework
This class was one of the most difficult i've taken at CSUB to date. Prof. is not helpful at all. HMWRK not graded. Grading goes like this: Exams: 100 pts each Final:200 pts Lab Attendance: 100 She is not the friendliest. The material is not hard at all but she makes it seem very difficult. Gets upset over littlest things
She was terrible, her explanations never make sense and her tests are really difficult. It seems like she teaches all the easy stuff in class and expects you to know the hard stuff, she puts really hard stuff on the tests that you sometimes dont even remember learning.
I dont understand what people are complaining about she was a good teacher. Many people in my class failed because they did not go to class, the key was to always attend class. The exams were pretty easy she uses the same questions from the homework. Try harder people!
This professor isn't bad the only thing I hated was the pop quiz cuz I failed each one b/c I wasn't prepared. But exams I got straight A's b/c the problems were from HW. so do ur hw nd dnt be behind nd u'll do great
She is an amazing person. But she really tries to have you understand the material. But it just doesn't click. Her methods are super disorganized. She will go over an example but not tell you were and when.
Worst Professor EVER!!
THIS Teacher is horrible, all she does is get mad at you for asking for help, gives u akward mean look when you ask if she gonna collect hw, and she got mad at my friend for using a calculator, I mean its a math class!!!! , DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER IF YOU WANT GOOD EXPLANATION AND TO PASS!!!!!
this is the worst math teacher i have ever had ,she is not good at explaining the material ,she is very very boring ,a lot of pop quizzes
She was very helpful, her final was very easy. She may seem hard to approach but she is very helpful when you go to her and ask for help. Just as long you pay attention and attend class, you'll do fine in class.
Show up to class and do the work people, not rocket science.
Professor is great. Show up to class do the work and ask for help when you need it. She is always there during office hours. Also do the homework because it helps with quizzes and tests.
For math 190, we didn't have to buy books. She gave the old one to us. She cares about her student; the new version was $210 in bookstore!
She's an easy grader if you can actually follow along. I have yet to have a class with her that she didn't make multiple mistakes and had to correct herself or have a student correct her.
I would never again take any class that is offered by Malouf. She is one of the most confusing lectures and her discussions often times went of on a tangent. She doesn't organize her notes, never any power points, and she seemed to have always made everything up as she went. She also gets irritated when people ask questions. Sorry, but never again.
She is the only math professor I will take for any math class. She is clear and concise. Of course you don't need Power Point for math classes as all the work in done on the board. She will help and explain the work very clear. Homework is optional, but absolutely necessary to pass the class. Best Math professor by far!!
she doesn't collect hw, but her quizzes are pretty random. she uses an older edition txtbook for this class. she supplies the class with these books if she has plenty. tough grader. i wouldn't retake her again. in my opinion, this class is mainly independent study and u have to show up cause u dont know when she will give quizzes.
She is totally nice and sometimes funny. She tries to save you money also. The best part about her class, she doesnt collect homework. If your someone like me who has already took calculus in highschool, this class should be an easy refresher. I barely did homework, since I knew most of the stuff. Trig is hard in general, not teachers fault.
No no no no. I have never failed a class so badly. Its her grading. She takes off points for every little thing. Honestly I wish she would collect homework so our homework scores could balance out our horrible test scores. Also the day before the test she does a lecture for whats going to be on the next next exam instead of a review day. Goodluck!
She is a professor who actually wants you to learn. In her lectures she will explain every problem step by step and will answer a few questions from the homework. When I went to her office to ask for help she did multiple problems with me explaining every step until I understood it. She is someone I would definitely take again.
I would categorize her as a person who is passionate about what she does. She's an okay teacher in my opinion . She doesn't give credit for hw but it is suggested to pass the course. She tends throw in her lectures with lots of tangents, little pause here going off topic there then goes back to the subject. Quizzes are given at random. Tests are ok
Loved Dr. Malouf. She's quirky & fun. Must attend, gives pop quizzes that weigh heavily on final grade. All explanations & examples are straight from book. Always willing to help & explain methods. Tests: fairly straightforward, notecard allowed, no trick problems. Doesn't collect hw, gives quizzes/tests back in timely manner. NO CELL PHONES OUT!!
You don't show up to class, you will not pass the class. She has a monotone voice which tends to turn heads in the room to their phones. She teaches right out of the book with little examples. She talks through out the class about some people, and how they shouldn't be in her class because they are not ready. Puts people down and discourages them.
She is one of the worst professors at CSUB for math. She manages to make even the easiest subject insufferable. But her tests and quizzes are pretty easy. She is so boring the she put me to sleep 80% of the time.
Listen to lectures, follow along with her examples, take notes, ask questions, and do the homework. Not hard. Teaches using examples from book. Quizzes/test not hard, but I enjoy math. She is funny but not many people like her sense of humor. If you enjoy math, you will enjoy her cheesy jokes. Nice, caring, and really knows her stuff! GREAT!
Make sure statistics really boring just goes off the book no point on going to lecture because the examples she gives in class arent as clear as in the book. Homework is easy to do just use the book.
She's the worst professor ever. She's my first C in college. statistics is not a hard subject but she makes the simplest thing so hard and confusing. People stopped showing up to class cause it was such a waste. She's the worst ever. Don't take her. Tests aren't hard but are weird.
I really liked Professor Malouf. She was very funny and caring. She knew this statistics class was very difficult & did her best to help us understand the subject. Sometimes her explanations were confusing but I think it's because she super smart in math & would lose us. She was always available to help, gave us points for the work we did right.
This is a great refresher course if you havent taken math in a while. This class helped me greatly in calculus later. This Professor is very nice and she helps break everything down if you ask questions.
She has a very monotone voice. Lectures the WHOLE class time. She goes over examples from the book that you were supposed to read before showing up to class. Hw is online so you can use your book. Hates when people leave early because it interrupts her and the class.
math always requires a lot of homework, but this was a very easy class. Her lectures do not always make sense, but youtube has everything you need for extra help. She is an easy grader and gives as many points as she can and allows you to have a cheat sheet. She makes a lot of cheesy jokes, but she's a pretty good professor for math.
I had to spend a lot of time reading the book and watching videos because her lectures were a waste of time. Most of my class failed the tests :(
The notes that she provided in the class did not help me with my homework I would have to go to youtube. She does a quiz every two section. Also be careful how you write your final answer on the test because if you do not write the way she wants it she will take off a lot of points, trust me she's a tough grader.
Dr. Malouf said to do the homework but I chose not to do it and still got an A.
Do not have to do homework, but homework helps.
Useless professor. Don't take her unless its the only option. Her notes aren't even related to the homework. She spends lots of time talking about unless topics. Attendance wouldn't be mandatory if she dint give random quizzes because you have to teach yourself. She's literally useless. Applies to any math taken with her.
Dr. Malouf is an inspiring mathematics professor. She uses a free online textbook. She gives partial credit for exam questions. She dropped the lowest 2-3 quizzes and depending on your exam scores, she may replace one. Attendance and hw was not mandatory, but it is recommended. She may not seem great but once you get to know her, she is really fun!
The best thing I can say about Dr. Malouf is that she was nice. After that, there was nothing special about her, she makes comments if you are not paying attention in class and will call you out for having your laptop out to take notes. She is very rude and does not like to get called out for getting the answer wrong. Stay clear!
Overall the class is super hard + her teaching isnt too much helpful sometimes BUT if you ask a question on how she got the problem she will help u solve
STEER CLEAR from this professor for COVID mandatory online classes! There are NO ZOOM MEETINGS/LECTURES for an in-person course. Everything you must teach yourself through YouTube, so you are essentially paying tuition to watch free YouTube videos. Pros: Partial credit on tests, fully answers questions about problems, free online textbook
DO NOT GET THIS TEACHER DURING COVID/ ONLINE SCHOOL. I guess it depends on the person but she does not seem nice at all. i've asked her for help at the beginning of this semester but never again. she makes me feel dumb. Be prepared to teach yourself and watch Youtube videos. hands down worst teacher i've had up to date.
Took her online as an asynchronous class. Watched Youtube videos to learn the material and used the free online textbook for extra help. Was responsive on e-mail if you had a question or needed an extension on homework. Probably better in person.
Janice on the first day said that on average 8 people pass her class, does not give homework, only pop quizzes, and tests are weighted higher. told everyone if we got 60 or below on first 2 exams to drop her class bc even if we do good on next exam and quizzes were done and its not likely we can achieve that. The worst professor Ive had.
Dr. Malouf isn't everyone's favorite, but you can tell she's very passionate about math. She's always willing to help and explains in very great detail when you communicate with her. She does a lot of pop quizzes that can be a little intimidating, but they do help for the final. No homework, but is very recommended (DO IT).
I don't recommend her at all if you have to take a specific course and she's the only option, check for a different prerequisite if possible. Goodluck!
Even though I passed her class, this professor has a sassy attitude. First day of the semester she tells her students that most will fail her class? Who does that! Do not recommend
Horrible Professor, boring lectures + can't teach. I have been teaching myself the whole semester, she only grades quizes and exams (quizes every week, 3 questions on each max so don't get any wrong :) ). Began school year telling us half would fail and ignores your emails. Woudn't recommend unless you want to suffer for some reason.
She is actually a really nice person and I enjoyed talking to her on breaks. But WOULD NEVER TAKE HER AGAIN. She doesn't grade you on homework, so you are screwed if you do not do well on tests or quizzes. She does not work with you if you happen to miss a quiz for an emergency circumstance. She has no desire to pass you! Take that as you will.
Likes to take it slow, which is the reason I enjoyed her class.
in this class, you can get the answer correct but get it scored as wrong if you don't do things exactly like her, which rarely makes sense. she doesn't provide rubrics for her scoring, so she's very arbitrary in her grades. she doesn't respect that there are many ways to arrive at a correct answer. with her, its her way or else.
I probably got an A or B, still waiting. She wasn't a terrible teacher, her lectures actually explain a good amount and attendance IS NOT MANDATORY. That being said she doesn't give test dates so you kind of need to show up or you'll miss a test with no retakes, would not take if math is tuff
The only things that go into the grade book are 3 exams and about 8 short quizzes based off homework that wasn't worth any credit. Lectures were guided off the textbook but would be hard to understand. She will also never post your grade, and if you visit her office hours, she'll make an estimated guess on a paper. Would not take again.
when i first started the class she said to the class most of the class would fail, big red flag right there, she is a tough grader and has pop quizes ever week homework and lectures are heavy and are used for big test and midterms and finals i would not take this professor again
She is quite the grouch, and rude. If she doesn't like a sound, or something you are doing she will definitely tell you and embarrass you. Not a good teacher and does not tell us when we have a quiz therefore you won't be prepared.I don't recommend her. She stated once if we need help on a question to find a classmate or tutor, and not to ask her.
She wont tell you when we have quizzes so ATTENDANCE MATTERS you dont want to miss a day because you never know when she will show up with a quiz. I don't recommend her at all she is very rude and hates if your even 2-5 minutes late. She will point it out in front of the whole class.
she doesn't let you know when you have quizzes. she has no idea how to use the online math homework she assigns you and doesn't care if you miss it, even for good reason. doesn't plan the classes and hopes on the class to figure something out for the lesson.
Overall, I liked how she encouraged us not to be too hard on ourselves after we did poorly on an exam. Friendly outside of class. Teaching was great. Thought I would pass the class; I knew half the things she taught. Very tough grader, marks down so many points even if you're on the right track & the pop quizzes she gave really blew my grade.
