Easy. Read the book and you will pass.
Lectures slides are the test. Attend class, you will pass.
Don't expect to do any real art, she bases a lot of her exams off of the reading in the book although I didn't crack it open once. She gives a few extra credit opportunities and assigns a visit to a museum for a paper. Lectures are long and boring especially if you're just taking as a GE. She doesn't post the lecture powerpoints so take good notes!
This class was really boring. Her lectures are super long and her study guides for tests don't help that much. She puts random questions in that i didn't see in the book or in the lecture. If you show up to class and REALLY pay attention you will pass. Barely any hw, just a lot of pointless reading. i wouldn't buy the textbook.
Class was pretty easy. 2-3 assignments but easy grader as long as you put in the effort. She doesn't post any slides/notes online, so you either have to take really good notes during class or read the chapters from the book, although she does take attendance. Lectures are long and boring but she cares about her students. Take her
Attendance is necessary as the tests are from her lectures and she doesn't post any slides. The tests are super easy and there are only a few assignments. She is a great teacher especially if you are looking for an easy A.
This class was okay to take but her lectures are really lengthy, you just get lost in them. A plus is she puts videos on her powerpoints that are sometimes interesting! You kind of get sleepy hearing her voice, this class people always fell asleep. She's s good teacher she just doesn't know how to engage college students into her teaching style.
Janice Nguyen is a fairly new professor at CSUF, so she's still getting the hang of things. Lectures are long and boring because she doesn't know how to relate to her students. Tests should be simple, there are four 60 question multiple choice exams, however, she covers an excessive amount of information which makes studying all material impossible
Really nice teacher. Test are based off the power points. Assignments are really easy.
She was reasonable in everything she asked of us on assignments and tests. Your grade is based off of 4 tests, a term paper, and a couple in-class assignments. The more difficult tests and your overall grade are severely curved. Powerpoints are not online so you have to go to class or get them at her office hours. Easy class, good teacher.
Her lectures consist of long powerpoint slides. She makes them a bit more bearable by showing videos in them every now and then. She doesn't share her slides so be ready to copy them down. There are 4 exams which cover a lot of information but if you copy the slides from the powerpoints you should be fine.
One of the worst professors I've ever had. Her lectures are boring and very informational. Tests are usually based off her slides (which she doesn't post online) and require extra research to understand the material (I didn't get the book). Assignments are relatively easy but she expects a lot from her students (ie. being VERY descriptive)
New professor that has so much more to learn about connecting with her students on a one-to-one level. Presents her slides in the most boring way possible which makes it difficult to consistently take notes down every day for a straight hour. Focuses too much on trying to cram information into students' brains, rather than help them understand.
Study guide and test match up sometimes... going to office hours is really the only thing that will help you if you're struggling... make a friend in the class to study with, it helps. Take pictures of the slides n take nots on what she says about them
I did not enjoy this class whatsoever. Her entire class is based off of powerpoint lectures. Class is mandatory which is understandable. She puts too much emphasis on this GE course. Best advice would be to read each chapter before class then highlight the topics she lectures on. She does provide study guides, but they are 4 pages long. Unhelpful.
She's really nice and knowledgeable on the subject, however her class is really boring. For a GE, this art class was way too difficult and time consuming. The class is extremely lecture based and does not involve any interaction with other students. She also doesn't post any PPs online so be prepared to take GOOD notes. All based off memorization.
This was such a fun class! I would look forward to my art class because it was my relaxed class. You have to take quite a bit of notes but I would take that over endless quizes and tests. Book is the same as her lectures. Plus the final isn't cumulative which is a bonus. She's really nice and approachable. I don't regret taking this class one bit.
OK art class, tests are easy, gives a study guide. LONG lectures and the tests are 60 questions, one paper about an artwork. She covers a lot of information so get ready to write a LOT of notes. Posts grade really quickly and gives extra credit. She likes in when people participate and get ready to be called on, few points if you show up everyday
Great Class, tests are based on her lectures and reading the text book. She is a hardworking and dedicated professor and she really cares about her students. Take this class if you really want to learn about art history. I learned so much.
Knowledgeable and passionate4 non-cumulative exams. A few in class activities/worksheets. Small photo project. Museum paper. Doesnt post PowerPoints so take good notes. Reading the chapters helps because the information covered is the same. Provides study guides. Super accessible during office hours and will help you. Extra credit also available.
Very sweet professor but the class is lecture based with powerpoints, which was very boring. I rented the textbook but never used it. There's a lot to study but just go off the study guide she provides and you'll pass.
Very enjoyable class to sit through. She relied heavily on power point presentations (don't bother renting the text) but she did provide them along with study guides for the exams. Come to class and take decent notes and you'll be fine!
She doesn't post her powerpoints so you need to be there to get the notes. she sometimes gets confused and I personally didn't like her teaching style.
Very passionate teacher on the subject. Definitely messes up here and there but she overall is good. Her class is on the history of art which did not interest me much so I did find it boring, but you'd love her if you enjoy art and its history. Assigns several mini assignments and a museum paper. Exams are challenging but she curves grades on them.
One paper on an artwork, four total exams (not cumulative final), and some worksheets for classwork and homework. Basically no homework overall. Exams are not too difficult as long as you memorize and study lecture notes diligently. Must attend class for notes since she doesn't post it. She goes through slides fast. There's extra credit.
Monotone, boring, long lectures every single class. Very hard to retain information this way. For a ge, elective THIS CLASS IS TOO MUCH. She has 80 question tests and with such poor, repetitive lectures you are left spending hours and hours on your own trying to memorize all these peoples names. Such a hard and tedious class... good luck
She knows what shes teaching very well. Her lectures are very informative but require lots of note taking. Thus, studying the notes for the tests are very difficult. She gives lots of extra credit and wants students to pass, she also curves the grades by a lot. Theres a museum paper thats very easy to write, dont procrastinate. Easy class
The lectures are clear and interesting, so you will miss out on a lot of info if you skip. I didn't open my textbook once, since tests are based off of powerpoints and lectures. Flash cards helped me a lot because her exam questions are pretty specific. Small in-class assignments are graded lightly and will help boost your grade.
Just average. Not the worst, not the best. Her lectures bored me but as long as you show up and take notes the exam qs are from the lectures. Even if you dont do good on exams theres in-class and extra credit assignments that are easy for points. Overall straightforward.
The class is average. She's a really nice lady, but lectures can get boring. On the plus side, her test is purely based off of lectures, so you don't need the textbook. However, attendance is mandatory. 4 tests, one essay, and a few extra credit opportunities.
She's a pretty good professor overall. The lectures are extremely boring but pay attention to them because her exams are based on them. She gives a study guide for the exams which is super useful. Attendance was mandatory and she did give extra credit.
Very nice and lectures are kinda entertaining. No homework but occasional assignments that are super easy. Study straight from the notes and it's an easy A.
Be ready to memorize useless names you wont ever need again. And get ready for this class to be treated like a 200+ level class not a 101 class. Exams are 70+ questions long. People have other classes to be studying for, not a 101 class.
Good professor but very lecture heavy. Had 4 tests throughout the semester, all information came directly from lecture powerpoints. No homework except for a couple of easy assignments and a short 3-4 page paper. Textbook is optional, but not needed at all. Overall easy class as long as you study for the tests.
The class is very lecture driven. Chapters range from 25 to 150 slides. She goes through material very quickly so it is important to be in class and take detailed notes. Exams are tough so it is important to use flashcards to study different terms, artworks, movements, and artists.
She is very good at teaching, but the powerpoints require a lot of notetaking. The tests are based on the lecture notes, so make sure you write down the sides carefully. There are a few papers, so I recommend finishing up the Museum paper as soon as possible since it requires traveling, which could be difficult for some.
The class is based upon 4 sixty point exams about 100 points worth of assignments, as well as some extra credit. Professor Nguyen is very understanding and wants what's best for her students, but her lectures can be a bit all over the place. Take good notes and use flash cards for studying.
I enjoyed taking professor Nguyen! 3 exams, 1 paper (midterm), and a non cumulative final. She offered really easy extra credit ( easy 20 point worksheet that was graded for effort!) You get points for attendance which really helps your grade at the end of the semester. Show up because there are some in class assignments that can't be made up!
I didnt like the way she taught the class. There are 3 exams and 1 final. Although the long lectures and the study guide dont match with the exams so it was really difficult to pass the exams and the final. Dont take her class !
Honestly, this class sucked. The course material itself is just bland and boring and will DEFINITELY put you to sleep. The Powerpoints and exams were not parallel, so you're often left questioning why you even come to class when you're being tested on information you never learned about.
The whole class is basically a vocab test. There are many terms you have to learn before each exam so do not procrastinate.
Janice is nice but the way she presents material is fast and confusing. It's not organized and she tends to hop back and forth with topics during her lectures, so it's hard to get clear information and know what exactly to focus on for the exams.
sweet of a person but not really a thorough teacher. tests are all that you can do to improve your grade. Our 1st test was a class average of a D.... no curve, nothing, and all she did was tell us that we really have to study more. Rather frustrating considering how this is art history B. We already know how to study! Her tests are hit or BIG miss.
Imma just say this. When the class had a -D average on a test she had the audacity to say "you guys need to study better" to everyone. I literally do not remember a lot of the questions she mentioned in class and I study 2-3 days before.
I'm not an art person nor have I ever taken art before, but her class is pretty simple. Grade consists of almost weekly discussions, 2 projects, 1 paper, & 2 tests (open notes). The lectures can be boring, but I don't think it's a hard class! Overall, Prof. Nguyen is very nice and friendly and I'd take her class again.
Overall, Professor Nguyen was great! She was lecture heavy and based everything off power points but as long as you take detailed notes you'll be fine. All her exams are based off the power points and they are open notes.
Very easy class! The lectures are interesting. She has a couple of discussion boards, a few small projects, and 2 tests. The tests are easy and open notes. If you just write down what she says you will ace the midterm and final. Goodluck :)
Lectures were a lot of notes but was easy to understand. The first 11 chapters dont get tested on so there is time to adapt to her style. Only discussion boards, 3 small projects, a midterm, and a final.
It's not mandatory to go to class since she posts her lectures online (for now) but you need to take the notes for some assignments, mid-term, and the final. Only homework was some discussion forums and like 3 papers. Take her if you can.
Definitely take this class with her. Lecture heavy but if you take the notes you'll be good. 3 small projects, midterm, 1 paper, and final. Discussion forums make most of the grade! Offers extra credit. Overall, I enjoyed this class. Very nice professor!
easy class but super boring. the class is just lectures that are used so you can write the one paper you have in the class and then for the midterm and final. notes are NECESSARY TO PASS!!!!!! you don't have to necessarily pay attention to the material but as long as your taking notes you'll be fine. there were three small projects as well. easy A.
i love Professor Nguyen. This class is an easy A but ONLY if you attend all the lectures. Answers to the exams will be stated during the lectures and there is nowhere to watch the lectures on your own time, so its important to attend the lectures. 1 midterm and 1 final, no quizzes. Discussion boards once a week. Just attend class and take notes.
I wouldn't hesitate to take this course again, the grading was clear, apart from lecturing during the zoom call, she took the time to record the lectures and post them, allowing students access to go back and watch when needed. The projects were fun and exciting, one essay, and the exams were straight forward as the questions were right from notes.
Great professor. During her lectures she goes over material that will be in the midterm and final. You can use your notes (from lectures) during tests and you don't have to attend a zoom meeting. Oh and this class goes over art history, you don't actually have to do much drawing.
Class was relatively easy. go to class, take notes during lectures, use the notes during test, and pass the test. Test questions were directly out of the lectures. Class twice every week, lectures for the entire class. got boring sometimes because it was all lecture, but "homework" was fun and this class had the best interaction between students
Prof. Nguyen was the best Professor I have ever had. All of the test were in correspondent to the lectures. She is the most understanding person and wants each and every student to succeed. The lectures and directions were all clear and all of the test were open notes. If you show up to class and you do all of the assignments it is an easy A.
She doesnt prepare you for exams well and the material on test is not really clearly covered in her rushed and rambling lecturers.
Super nice Professor but the lectures can get boring. Really recommend showing up or youll have a hard time with homework and tests. Even if you show up exams are a little difficult, I feel like the lectures didnt completely go over the important things/ lots of filler info. Certain homework assignments were fun
Professor Nguyen doesn't accommodate her students. The first exam class average was a D. She blamed us for not studying correctly, but the study method she provided was unclear and confusing. Many of the students asked to make changes to future tests, but she kept refusing. Would not recommend her class online.
The worst class i have taken the average for the tests were about 50 % and she would be condescending and even said her daughter could do better than us. The tests were no notes, no curve and very little extra credit opportunities. The beginning of the class was misleadingly easy but as soon as it was the first test the facade was over. Awful class
Professor Nguyen makes her tests respectably challenging. Only wish that we could get into more specifics while lecturing, videos are awesome but leave me bored after a while. She highlights important info in red yet still feel unprepared if Ive studied everything. To the person looking for easy credit, look else where. Take if your confident
Ignore all the ratings from this semester honestly. the class was easy. She can be a semi-tough grader for assignments but the tests are so straightforward. All you need to know for the tests are what's highlighted red in the ppt. She records the lectures we need to know. I honestly don't know how people failed unless they straight up didn't study
Easy class, just take notes on her lectures. She records the lectures we are tested on so we can rewatch. Her tests weren't open-note this semester but it was straightforward & easy as long as u study the red text on her ppt. Plenty of extra credit(5 pts) after every exam(3). If u don't pay attention/rewatch lec, don't complain about your bad grade
Professor Nguyen was a nice professor to have for Art 101. I enjoyed her class and would recommend to anyone thinking of taking this course. Her class is lecture heavy but extra credit was offered. The extra credit was very beneficial and easy to do.
Lectures are easy to keep up with, she even posts her power points and records her lectures if you miss it. Offers a few extra credit points that you should definitely take, even if you have a passing grade. Has about 3 (?) tests and her quizzes are open notes (she creates a study guide for you, use it!). Join your classes discord, it helps a ton!
Great prof
Glad that I got to take this class with Prof Nguyen online this semester. There's some bad reviews that are salty about the exams but they truly aren't difficult. Studying the helpful study slides (that she provided) for an hour or two is all you really need. No book required. Lots of extra credit. & doesn't really call on people which I like lol
Good professor. There are very few assignments given in this class, mainly discussion boards and one paper. Although tests were detailed and sort of difficult (no study guides), the professor would offer many extra credit opportunities to boost up our grades. Definitely recommend, but be prepared to take a lot of notes.
I was in a hybrid class: lectures online and in person exams. She says everything in red text on her slides will be material covered on the exam, but there's something red on every slide. The only way I got an A was finding people in my class to study with. But she offers extra credit and other assignments that will your help your grade.
She doesn't make clear exactly what you need to know and fills power points with useless information. She says the red text on her power points are what will be on the test but sometimes the text is yellow or just the title is red. Very confusing and doesn't do a great job of making the topic interesting.
Her slides had too much information. Would tell us to write down the things written in red but everything on the slides was written in red. I honestly stopped going to the classes and would study her slides on the way to class and I got a B. Test questions are easy once you have an expectation of the questions after the first test.
Her class are just lectures. She allowed us to take her class on Zoom if we couldn't make it to campus. Sometimes would post discussions on Canvas and just one essay. Tests are easy, just study the slides and take notes. She also provides extra credit which raised my grade a lot. Overall easy class but don't procrastinate and be responsible.
For a 101 class the lecture material is heavy and hard to remember. Even with the entire class failing the tests she wouldn't curve, and claimed it was everyone else's fault besides her own. She used her daughter as an example of "how easy" it (the test) was when questioned. If you want an easier 101 I would recommend Professor Plouffe.
My friend had her for Art 101 and she told me it was the worst, but it the material she uses from 201B and 101 are different? This class is really easy!
Prof. Janice is amazing! Her lectures were easy to follow along and the grading criteria was simple for the three exams and written assignment we had to do. My only problem was that she sometimes moves on to another topic too fast, but her lectures were recorded, so it was easy to get that information back. Definitely recommend!
This is a doable intro class. This past spring semester we had a couple of easy projects and discussion boards. What makes or breaks you in this course is the exams, she gives you power points to fill in the blanks for lecture but in order to be successful on the exams make your own notes instead ( I wish would have figured this out sooner).
She would have us mark our attendance on a piece of paper, but it didn't affect our grade. The first half of the semester was easy since we only had to do discussions and a sculpture project. The second half of the semester had 3 exams and a 5 page paper. If you have a discord, ask others for notes so you don't have to attend class.
lecture heavy slides are online but she edits the slides super heavily so no point of them being online quizzes and test are in person
This class is very boring. All it is is a super long and boring lecture of her showing slides and you have to copy everything down onto your notes. She does provide study slides that you can add your notes into which is nice but her class is just so boring. The is mainly lectures with the occasional discussion post or project we have to do.
she is so nice and super understanding. will give an extension if asked and does a few zoom classes randomly. The projects are photography and sculpture. Both projects are simple and easy. I did it a day before the due date, and all of the tests are online and open. You need to go to lecture to get good notes tho.
the whole class is lectures, notes are a bit confusing but the course is easy to follow and tests are open-note so as long as you go to class and take good notes you'll do very well
every class we just listen to her lectures and her notes are very sporadic and hard to understand sometimes and may be hard to write into your own notes. there are no quizzes, but all tests are taken on your own time at home and are open notes so make sure you attend class and get the notes and you will pass the exams no problem. sweet lady though
Extremely easy course for non-art majors. Her exams are all online and open-note. I'm not interested in art whatsoever and do other work/don't pay attention much in class and still ended up with an A. Just remember to take notes on every slide she presents. Her exams are relatively easy, and they're just on her notes.
Easy class, lectures are usually boring if you don't care for art. TAKE NOTES. All her tests were open notes.
I found her class to be easy. if you just take good notes on the lectures, you will get an A. All exams answers are in the lectures, and open note online exams. few projects but they are easy and she grades easy.
I took this as an async class and was very easy. Assignments are very easy, missed getting an A by 0.1% ;-;
Took her Art 101 class and it was super easy. As long as you show up to the lectures and just write down the bolded red stuff on the slides you'll be fine for the exams. Exams were online and she didn't care if you used your resources. Highly recommend her for an easy A.
No homework, 3 exams online/open note, extra credit. You have to take good notes in this class as some exam questions have subjective statements made in lecture rather than known fact(ex.specific meanings behind abstract works that don't really have solidified meaning).Lecture slides are also dated culturally which she admits, I hope she fixes them
As a non-art major, she made the class super engaging. She goes kind of fast through her slides, but she allowed us to take photos so we could write some stuff down later. We only had 2 major projects, a photography one and a sculpture making one. I just used model magic an it worked fine. Quizzes are open note and super easy. Would take again.
I really like her as a professor. Although this class is soley lecture based and I have taken almost 100 pages of notes throughout the semester (10pt typed). Her exams are open note though and as long as you take notes and show up you will be fine.
Very nice but classes are very lecture-heavy. Easy enough as long as you take good notes and she tells you the important parts to remember for tests. Only a few projects which were pretty simple and interesting.
Very understanding and super nice, class was super easy. Heavy lectures were you copy off the powerpoints and I think 2/3 projects that I did the day it was due and still passed. 3 exams that are about the lectures, doesn't do cumulative exams. Sometimes does zoom meetings. Attendance matters in this class. will give you missing lectures if you ask
Prof. is super sweet and understanding. Lectures all class and you just copy from slides. Make sure not to skip since attendance is mandatory. Slides are nice to look at and if you miss any, just ask to see them at the end. Easy class, 2 projects, a few exams that are open not so copy everything down from slides.
attendance is mandatory, she lectures the entire class & not many assignments were graded. the ones that were graded almost never received full credit (like 59.5/60 or 39/40) so you actually have to try pretty hard on them. tests were worth a large portion of the grade so it was hard to maintain a good grade but shes sweet
Honestly one of the best professor I have had here. If you need Art 101 I definitely recommend this professor. Even if you miss a couple of classes its pretty easy to catch up. All the content on the tests are on the slides.
very good very fun
Really great professor for an art 101 GE course, class was laid back, not a lot of homework
Took this class online but she was still a good prof. and really understanding about assignments(lenient with deadlines). Kind of boring for an Art class but still the perfect easy GE requirement kind of course if that's what you're looking for.
This class was very easy. She just lectures all the time, reading off slides, and you follow by taking notes. All her exams were online, and you could do them anywhere. A couple of discussion assignments and two easy projects: one sculpture and another in photo editing. Very light work class, easy A.
She's a really great professor with a lot of passion in what she teaches. Lectures can be very boring but she gives easy points for attendance. Very minimal homework with a few pieces of "art" that can all be done in around 20 minutes. All tests are open note and online so you can take them whenever you want before deadline. Would recommend
Professor Nguyen is a really nice and understanding professor. This class has 4 exams, and they are all very easy to take as long as you read the textbook. There are two projects, and it's mostly discussion assignments or quizzes. Would definitely recommend taking this class, especially with this teacher.
