She's nice and passionate about biology-not sure why though.
Janice is a really good enthusiastic teacher. She is glad to give lots of extra help during her office hours.
She is not very good at controlling class behavior.
She wont answer questions in class... cant controll anyone and grades wasy
Worst teacher at hcc!! Will not answer questions during or after class, "teaches" right with the cd, detailed tests nor will IT give extra credit!! Not recommended!!
DONT DO IT! your better off just reading from the CD yourself then her just going through it....SO BORING! the only one good thing about her is that shes oblivious to everything and it's so easy to leave her class before falling asleep....just don't trust me.
Her class isn't the most exciting, but she's a nice teacher I guess. I would suggest someone else if you have the chance.
Horrible Class dont ever take it you wont understand anything
Basically you dont need to go. Just study the book and cd and your straight. Nice person, but doesn't have the guts to tell people to shut up in class.
worst teacher! Just teaches off the CD. One of the most boringest classes i've ever taken. JUST DON'T DO IT FOR YOUR OWN SAKE, youll regret you ever took it. Get another teacher. The only good thing is you can leave her class whenever...which I did everyday.
I thought Janice was a great teacher. She explains everything in the book but in more detail. If you can't understand her then you just don't know how to read!! This is college not high school....not more holding your hand through everything. If need help she helps.
oh my god. i HATED this class... i had no interest and she had no ability to get me interested. i always felt like she had no idea what she was talking about... i think i tried to block this class out of my memory...
This by far was the worst teacher, she was unprepared and did not know the material. Have the stuff on the test she did not bring up. get another teacher
awesome teacher, very clear. no surprises on her tests
This teacher knows her stuff. And he tries her best to make it interesting, but the fact is no one except for the medical majors cares. I mean you cram all of this info. in for these exams and it is time wasted because you forget it right afterwards. They need to make a BIO for non-med. majors. I hate this class, not the teacher.
The whole lecture comes from an interactive CD, which makeslearning the biologicalprocesses very easy when studying alone. Ms.Weinberger is ReallyFunny, but there are so many disrespectful children in her classes it seemswho need to grow up! This was one of the easiest classes I took,b/c after all,it is a 100 level, very clear,&she's a good teacher!
wonderful teacher, i'd love to have her again
good teacher, takes it slow so you understand. Really helpful and is willing to go the extra mile. I had a huge fer of bio 101 before her class, but now I feel pretty positive about it. Agree with the comment before mine, the class is designed for bio majors or med students, you forget the info pretty quickly if you are not interested.
Really nice teacher. Very clear with what she was teaching, used lots of pictures, easy to understand. She made the class interesting. She had review sessions which was good. What was on the test was exactly what she taught, no other random things. Pay attention in the class, and you'll ace it.
Good teacher
Wow. BORING AS HECK! but she teaches EXACTLY whats on the course CD and tests only on that. so it's an EASY A. Dont go to class unless you want to waste your time listening to the SAME EXACT thing you will study when you get home for quizzes and tests. She's nice though.
Very good teacher
Its one of the eaisest class i have ever taken. If u pay attention in class, the quizes ans tests are sooo damn easy. That class is really easy, i never studied outside of class and still got an A. Yet, the class is informative. Just take it! everything is out of the CD!
She's a great teacher, but sometimes boring. She teaches off the CD so when you go home to study with it, you remember everything she says. She DOES give extra credit and she DOES answer questions during class. She tells you what is on the exams exactly. I recommend this teacher.
Prof. Weinberger is great, she really explains everything really well. Sometimes the class got a little boring, but that was hardly her fault. Acctually most of it was probably just the dim lights making everyone sleepy. But I learned a lot in this class and loved it!
not a good teacher
I really like her! She's so sweet and answers your questions and helps whenever she can. Really the nicest person ever. It's good to have a teacher that loves what they teach so it's more enjoyable. I don't like biology but i have to take it.
She's nice and all, and her class is pretty easy, but her main problem is classroom management. If you're in a class with little or no distractions with her, you should be fine. Everything is off of the CD, so don't lose it.
she's a great professor. I love those comments that say she can't control her class...uhh aren't you guys in college now (well community college anyway) she's there to teach not be your mommmy. If you can't keep your mouth shut or have some respect during her class dropout and practice saying "would you like that supersized?"
All of the comments about her being terrible fail. She is a very great and helpful teacher, but, sadly, most people that are in her 102 class do not care about BIOL, so they blame their low grades on her. In fact, before her class, I though 102 was going to be boring, but, in fact, she made the class more interesting. Hope this clears up anything!
It's true that she isn't the most strict of teachers and people tend to get out of hand. But, like some of the other raters, said, you're in college now. If she were teaching at a middle school I understand this would be a problem. I thought she was nice, helpful, and an easy grader. What else could you ask for in a college professor?
This is An Easy Class.. she uses the same quizes and test every semester. So its an Easy "A" .. Come to class.. and do few extra credits.. which are soo easy.. And your good to go..
BORING!!! Especially early in the morning!
BORING!!!!!!! Terrible!! Never take a class with her!!. Her class is easy because it an easy class the content is easy. She reads to you right of the CD she gives you at the beging of the course.
SHE IS A REALLY GOOD TEACHER!!!!! The subject isn't complex and she doesn't make so by sticking to the basics and clearly defining each step along the way. She is very enthusisatic about the class as well. Always has a smile on her face and is there to help. Defintely, would recommend her...
lol at people complaining on here about her being boring. yeah so for all you kids who like extremely complex strict teachers who will make your life a living hell don't take this prof. id rather be bored than confused as fuh. so basically to sum it all up shes a good prof and her class is really easy. take it.
she's a great professor. If you study what she says it is important, we will get easy ? A?. She doesn?t trick the quizzes and testes. Some ones said her class is boring, but you come to skool to study not for fun?. She is awesome prof.
Presently taking this class and is boring to say the least. She knows what she's talking about, but her power points are directly from the textbook. The class is fairly easy( Easy A or B). If you are looking for an energetic class, I would recommend taking the class with another professor!
It's basic biology, the stuff you learn in high school.. just pay attention & read the stuff you don't understand. Two one-page writing assignments, a 10 question quiz every Friday, and multiple choice (about 10 questions short answer) exams.. she's pretty boring, but it's an easy class.. I'd rather get an A in a boring class
THE CLASS WAS FAIRLY BORING BUT SHE SPOON FED EVERYONE THE ENTIRE TIME. BARELY EVER ANY HOMEWORK. TEST SO EASY BECAUSE SHE GIVES THE ANSWERS BEFORE HAND
Lectured the entire time. Did not ask if people had questions or needed more time to copy notes. Tests were easy though if you studied the textbook.
she lectured the whole time, didn't really get you involved the whole time!
You can tell she loves what shes teaching and is very interested in it. She teaches up to the last second of class EVERY class and is very monotone. But the class was easy.
She is a great professor. She answers questions and is very willing to help students. She knows her stuff. Anything I didnt understand on my own she clarified in lecture. Test and quizes were fair and straighforward. I definately recommend taking her class.
Horrible professor! Does not know how to teach, she says "quote un-quote" & "at any rate" in front of almost every term some of which that don't need it just so she sounds intelligent but everyone catches on to the point where its distracting. She speeds through the notes w/o giving anyone enough time to copy from the screen when she expects us to.
Several pros and cons with this professor. Pros: Easy tests/quizzes , Material isn't hard, Gives you all the notes you need. Cons: Class was a bit dry (lecture), Book was a complete waste of money, tended to ramble at times, lacked control of the class. -You should be able to get at least a B in her class
Wasn't helpful. Literally read off slides the entire lecture, you learn more on your own than actually attending the class.
Easy class, everything on the tests was straight from the slide show which can be accessed online. Annoying because she discusses a lot of information that will never be on tests/quizzes. Otherwise this was a pretty chill class.
I really enjoyed both the class and the professor. She is obviously knowledgeable and interested in the subject. She kept the class interesting. I really enjoyed it, and I would recommend her to anybody willing to learn.
Just read the slides before test and do the guide and you will get and A. In her lecture she goes on a rant about necessary material that will not be on the test. Her information is very useful on the power point as it helps me for microbiology as well.
Very boring class, but easy to get an A. Powerpoints were not very helpful, but the textbook was really useful when looking at study guides for tests. You don't really need to go to this class to pass it. Definitely need to study to pass the tests.
She is nice and helpful, but kind of a stickler for attendance and turning in work. If you pay attention, do the homework (which there isn't a lot of) and come to class, you should be fine. There is a group project at the end of the semester. You research a genetic disorder & present. Pretty straight forward. Exams are very easy. Would recommend.
Lectures were rushed and unclear, she was constantly busy and the class was always behind schedule. I always felt like I had to hunt her down to ask for help. Gives 5 multiple choice exams, but it isn't based on what she rambles on about during class. She's nice but if you have no bio experience before her class, I don't recommend her.
She's a nice professor and knows what she is talking about. Going to class wasn't as mandatory. If you studied her study guide before the tests, I guarantee you will do well. I would recommend her for bio102 but her lectures can be boring.
Professor Weinberger is very knowledgeable and passionate about biology; however, her lectures can be a bit dry. She has study sessions before each exam and gives online canvas quizzes sometimes. She is very helpful and nice. Make sure not to be late to her class, she may call you out in front of the entire class (lateness will not be tolerated).
Lectures are dry, being in her class for 1 hour feels like 6. She's a nice person and knows her material, but if you ask her questions or to repeat something, she tells you to "go home and read the power point." Super unhelpful. She also says "at any rate" ALL-THE-TIME. I missed lecture frequently but studied the power points - easy A if you study
she is the best instructor i have ever had. Easy to get an A if you pay attention in her class.
Teaches off powerpoints, but knows the material and keeps things interesting. Attendance not mandatory, but if you pay attention to lectures, you won't need to read the textbook. Powerpoints available online. The only big project is a group powerpoint presentation (not hard). She passes out study guides well ahead of tests and holds study sessions.
She treats the class as if it were third grade rather than college.
Not very helpful. She could not care if someone fails her class. Anytime someone had a question she would tell them to look online instead of helping them. Treated the class as if we were in elementary school. As a person, she's nice but not a good teacher.
Professor Weinberger has a great way of communicating clearly with the class and is very approachable!
Very passionate about Biology, easy to understand
She knows her material, but lectures are too long. When you ask her questions she won't really answer them so you will have to figure it out yourself. Her exams were hard. I felt like I was in class for 4 hours instead of 1. She can treat you like an elementary student vs. college student. Teaches off-of power-points. Don't spend your $ on book.
She rambles on and does not answer questions. Instead she tells you to look it up or beats around answering.
Everyone complains about her classes but they're easy. She doesn't like interruptions and does not tolerate cell phone use. She knows her biology and tells you exactly what you need to know to get an A. Class is not mandatory but super helpful for exams/quizzes. Has practice exams AND study guides. I'd take her class again.
Gives very explicit study guides with everything you need to know for exams. You'll never spend time studying "the wrong thing". Pretty much lectures straight from power points, but she really knows the material and usually keeps things interesting. Personally, one of my favorite profs at HCC.
amazing professor! Very easy and informative!
She knows her stuff about bio, and she's a sweet lady. But her 50 minute class LITERALLY felt like it would never end. I wanted to cry some days. It was the most boring lecture I have ever sat through. The only thing I can compare it to is going to the MVA, or the waiting room in Beetlejuice. So boring, it's hard to pay attention enough to pass.
Great at lecturing
Lectures are boring and long but informative. Two quizzes per chapter but easy Three exams but annoying #2016Fallsemester As longs as you study, use her PowerPoint and come to lectures, you be okay
Lectures are long but really great - took 9am lecture - definitely affected performance. Don't take this class before 11am. The lectures will kill you if you aren't awake for them
Her power points are very helpful when studying for exams and quizzes. You have a quiz almost every week but they are very easy (just study the power point). Her lectures can be a bit disorganized, but sometimes she will mention if something will be on an exam. The textbook is only used for pre-reading chapter quizzes on canvas.
Feels like being at a year long lecture class in high school.... I spent most of my time watching the time rather than her lectures. Skipped majority of class because she literally just reads off of the power point and goes off topic with her explanations.... no point in taking any notes when the power point is on canvas.
Lectures are boring and drag on forever. Doesn't like answering questions. Hates being interrupted. 1 hour class feels like a 6 hour class.
Professor Weinberger was horrible. The most boring lectures you have ever been to in your life, along with her snarls for so much as getting up to go to the bathroom. Shes extremely dramatic about you missing class and is NOT helpful at all when you have questions. Avoid taking this class with her if you can. You will have to teach yourself!
I dont see why everyone is so harsh. She makes studying really easy as she provides ALL of the powerpoints she will lecture from throughout the class online. If you follow her advice and print out the ppt before lecture and take notes on the actual slides it makes lectures much more tolerable. Use the ppts to study for tests and youll be fine.
The class was not hard and the professor is very thorough in her lectures. She does not like interruptions during class. Make sure you study the study guide before tests/quizzes, and you will have no problems making a decent grade. She lectures right off of power points and gives a quiz weekly. Class projects should be nothing less than perfect.
Professor Weinberger is a good biology teacher. She knows a lot about the subject and is passionate about it. As a fair warning, her lectures are infact boring and her class does drag on. She is passive aggressive towards people who leave her class or skip. She expects too much from students.
Was ok till the every end when I had problems with her with her taking over week to grade my final and thus giving me a temporaily I until my final grade is posted. Very upset because even after I finished I'm still arguing to see my final grade posted. Other than that lectures were very boring. What's on quizzes and study guides is on exams .
so boring
Get ready to study on your own time, lecture has a lot of information at once. Theres a test or quiz almost every week. If your determined you'll pass.
She gives a little too much information before every test which really eats away at the test time. We just took the final and she was talking for the first 20 minutes about announcements she had already written on the board. Once she gave us a quiz at 12:20 and our class end at 12:20. I had a class across campus at 12:30 so I had to run afterwards
If you go to her lecture, take the quizzes, and do the practice exams, you will get A. She gives an amazing lecture. Some said it is boring but I find it interesting and helpful. I don't study much, but I do the practice exams beforehand and do well on the exams.
Lectures have no relation to quizes.
Professor Weinberger is a good professor. I liked her, just make sure to study for the chapter tests and quizzes. Use her unit objectives to pass them. She gives a final exam study guide. She gave us an extra credit opportunity at the end of the semester. The only problem is that she can get off topic in her lectures.
Although her lectures are extremely boring and drawn out, if you go to class and study, its a really easy class. She is very friendly and always available outside of class to help.
She is very good at explaining each topic thoroughly. She explains everything, and you could go without reading the textbook. But if you choose not to read, make sure you pay attention during lecture. She does give one extra credit assignment at the end of the semester, but its worth 10 points. Make sure you study for the in class quizzes.
Great at explaining things. Go to class, pay attention, take notes, and skim the textbook/slides and you're golden. Her slides are INCREDIBLE and she's great at answering questions. Theres a quiz for every chapter, the only homework is to write a small paper at the end. Very organized which is great, but not flexible in grading.
Quiz every week, takes forever to go over slides and has no sympathy for her students.
You don't need to go to lecture in order to get an A. I taught myself everything at home. She is a very boring teacher all she does is talk the entire lecture and barely interacts with the students. You have a quiz every week,4 exams and one biotechnology paper. The tests are the same as the objectives. Overall easy class
While the lessons were fairly easy and the coursework relatively light, there was ample time set aside to thoroughly explain the material so that students had the best chance to understand what was happening. I appreciated this thoroughness and it helped me achieve better grades.
This is a boring class if you don't like bio. Doesn't like even the smallest of interruptions. Is passive aggressive and sometimes rude to students. Reads of power point. She does seem passionate about the subject so I give her that. Seems like she would be better suited in her field and not as a teacher. This class felt like high school.
good professor, lectures a lot but that's how she makes sure you understand everything
Her in class activities and quizzes are pretty easy, but if you miss any days of class you will get a 0 on these things. She isn't very good at explaining topics, and tends to go on and on about a single topic. She also treats her class like high school, by assigning groups, and getting mad over simple interruptions. Best advice: take notes.
She seems to really care about what she's teaching, and is willing to work with students if asked.
I like her! I felt that she taught clearly & in a very detailed way. She was very thorough and REALLY knows her stuff. She was passive aggressive when people left class early, esp. when they walked out right after a quiz. (I don't blame her; that's rude.) She's kind (if you're respectful) & a good professor. Considering taking another course w/her.
Lots of in class assignments that you can't make up if you are absent. Quizzes online are easy but in class ones are very difficult. All she does is lecture & if you ask her a question she responds with "look to the powerpoint". She also doesn't let you talk in class, every 5 seconds she would say "Hey Guys!" and separated some boys for talking....
Awesome teacher! Her quizzes and exams are very straight forward. She tells you exactly what will be on them, so you do have to come to class (wow shocker). She is an easy grader as long as you follow all the guidelines she provides. I would definitely recommend taking her!
Janice was a passionate teacher who expected you to work. Half my class were students who'd sit on their phones and talk but get mad when asked to stop or leave. However, her class would definitely drag on from time to time.
She's the nicest person ever! Her class is so easy, you don't need to read and can easily use outside resources for the online quizzes. Just show up and pay attention and you can get a good grade. She teaches the concepts simply, which makes for an easy class, but it can be a little boring.
Taking her online class amidst all this COVID-19 craziness is still just as great and easy as taking her class face to face. She's very organized and you will always know exactly what she expects and gives you exactly all the tools you need to pass her class. Yes, it's a little boring, but she really knows what she's doing.
Very Nice Professor. If you read the textbook and look at the study guide it is an easy A!
This is one of the hardest classes I've taken. The work load is too much in a short period of time. The exams are not open book but are based on a wide range of topics so a lot of memorization is needed.
Good professor, but the lectures are very long. I had to watch on 1.6x speed. Homeworks are long, but easy. Online is a good format for her classes, so do this if you can. Not a very hard grader, and she's very nice. She had optional online zoom office hours that were really helpful.
I took her for an online bio 141 class and it wasnt TOO bad. She seems like a nice person and she seems VERY passionate about what shes teaching. only thing is she talks a lot and her lectures are very long and boring. You have to watch them in 1.6x speed. Other than that her tests are pretty easy if u study. Take her if u dont mind long lectures
She is amazing! Take notes during the lecture, and print out the study guides because everything on the tests is on them. She gives extra credit and doing well on the genetic disorder project can set you up for an a. She is a lovely teacher who is readily available and is always ready to help. Don't bother with the textbook, I never used it.
Dr. Weinberger's the reason I'm majoring in Allied Health. She does advising as well and we had a great, long talk. I felt focused and determined! When switching majors I thought what academic classes have I enjoyed to major in, and her class and biology was the only one I could think of.
This class was incredibly interesting and straight forward. Honestly, if you watch the lectures and take notes you cannot go wrong. I will admit that I personally enjoy science (so this was a topic that I found very easy to grasp). Though I believe the way she breakdown/explains topics are perfect. Please be kind to this amazing teacher.
Professor Weinberger is a great teacher who provides clear lectures and study guides. Attendance is mandatory, but it's worth it to do well. unstuck ai and the course textbook were helpful for exam prep.
