Lectures and assignments are elementary in nature, be ready to test your patience.
holy crap, this was painful. a painful waste. if you are a CM major, take Landscaping, this one is a joke. easy, but a little time consuming. lectures are...well, i don't know if i would call them lectures. you need a Red Bull or you WILL be out. super nice lady though, i hate to say bad things, but man. do assignments EXACTLY as she says or else.
I really felt as though i was back in junior high by the way she teaches. Her powerpoints are very outdated and "claims" that she cant find new pictures. I dont think she has heard of google or yahoo image search engines.
This was on of my favorite, most fun classes ever!!!
She's a really nice lady, and tries to make the class interesting. But it's just not. She's very helpful to the point of annoiance, she over-explains things. We did a lot of pointless projects that were extremely time consuming. But if you want an easy A, this is the class to take.
this lady is super nice but is a horrible horrible communicator and teacher. Assigns lots of busy work for the students she is very lazy and expects you to know what she is thinking.
Middle School level. Easy A. Didn't learn much. Poor teachers and potentially fun subjects don't mix. This class is a prime example. Don't take unless you need to, or wait for a better teacher to come around.
Sister Nielson is a very nice lady; however, she wasn't the greatest professor. She always wanted us to agrre with what she said rather than form our own opinions. She treated us like young children, not college students. She didn't stay on topic very well.
She treated us as children, super nice, and she wants to be a good teacher, but she just doesn't fit the bill. there were lots of busy work, which didn't get you anywhere, she is a nice lady though, just not the est teacher.
This is a new class that is not what I had expected. It might be better now that we were the test group. She knows her stuff but there really was never a real lecture. Mainly peer teaching.
This class is rediculous. Nice lady but not a college professor. There is TONS of busy work that doesn't teach you a thing. Lots of cutting and pasting, you will feel like you went back to the 2nd grade. It seems like she just wings the lessons and isn't very prepared. Powerpoints and lecture material is very outdated. The book is helpful though.
I Loved this class! the teacher is a hoot but the lectures get boring sometimes. we have to draw a lot of pictures but you'll do okay as long as you keep up. we had to take a quiz for every chapter we read but they were open book and we never took exams. the class overall was good and it helped me learn a lot about how to design my home and gave me
I dreaded going to this class. If you take it make sure it's only an hour long and not an hour and a half. It gets really boring. She is a nice lady but not a very effective teacher. She gets frusterated when people don't comment in class, to a point that she calls you to repentance.
Sis. Nelson was a good teacher if you want to take an English class, not Family Foundations. We had to relate topics that didn't have anything to do with each other. You have to write 2 page single spaced papers every two weeks. One example was relating gender with food storage. I wish I would have taken it from a different professor.
She is a great person, and fun to be with, but is a hard teacher to deal with. Her classes are very informative, but can be very boring and dragging (especially early in the morning). The work load can be very annoying, but in the end, if very worth while and you actually DO learn things. Come on guys, grow up. This is college.
I thought Sis Nelson was hilarious! Haha no matter how softly I said something, she always heard me! It was great. She let us watch some disney movie clips! It was the bomb! The class was all right. It was my least favorite class this semester, but I had awesome classes. It was actually pretty fun sometimes
I took her Home Management class. She is a really nice person and is very genuine, but the workload was pretty dragging. The tests are really easy though. There isn't anything too difficult.
She is a very sweet lady and has a genuine interest in the class but she is not a very good teacher. She reads off her page of notes half the time. The lectures aren't very fluid. She gives a study guide for the test and that's all you really need to pass it. I recommend taking it for an easy A, not if you really want to learn about management.
This was an online class and it was really easy. I am not even sure if she reads my assignments but I always got 100% on everything. She is not that great at communicating but most online classes are like that anyway. If you want an easy A then take this class!
Sister Nelson cares about her students. She helps them realize their potential. This class was life-changing for me. I recommend this class to anyone who wants to learn how to be a better student, individual, and family member.
I thought this was going to be an easy class! We had to write an 8 page paper. Good thing Sister Nelson helped us! Then, we had to present the paper to classmates! (Sister Nelson helped us with that too) So far, everything we've learned in this class has applied to my life and made me a better person. Thanks for being such a great teacher.
I never got a chance to tell Sister Nelson how much I enjoyed her class and how I learned so much. It changed my life!!! I want other students to know it too. She is an awesome teacher!
I was hoping to come into this class learning more how to manage my family and time, but I didn't really feel like I learned much. There wasn't a study guide and unless in class when she reviews, the test was difficult and confusing. Lots of busy work and read ALOT out of the book. Sister Nelson is nice and wants to help but not very understanding.
Easy class, didn't learn a ton but SIster Nelson is the biggest sweetheart. I would recommend taking it. Tests are not that hard. Overall a good class.
SO easy! SO sweet! and you dont really have to use a textbook. We were supposed to read from it and i never bought one and got an A. But i learned so much in this class. I learned how to manage my time. first semester i recieved a .9 2nd semester i got a 3.5 just because of this teacher and how she taught me to manage my time.controlcidenne
I loved this class. Sister Nelson is so good at making sure you know what she is talking about. She also gives out study guides and will answer any questions regarding the test or assignments. She is so funny and I enjoyed her Home and Family Management class so much I took a Money Management class from her too.
If you want to be back in 1st grade she's great for that. Her assignments are all based on completion points but then went it comes to the test, it is unclear what to study for. The tests are 100 questions. She is friendly, but almost overly friendly. We start class by singing a hymn, so be prepared to be to sing. I like her as a person although.
Sister Nelson is extremely nice but not very useful when it comes to teaching money management. Her tests are 100 questions and sometimes she gives a study guide but she usually doesn't. Everyone was confused by her explanations and I wouldn't take another class from her.
Sister Nelson is an excellent teacher. In an 'aha' moment I realized how deep her teaching style is. She has mixed being super nice, with high expectations, with a clear defined course - you begin changing without realizing it. She provides all the tools for hometimeselfworkfamilypeople management and builds classroom trust & learning.
Sister Nelson is a very nice person, but as a teacher she goes onto tangents a lot and sometimes doesn't seem like she knows what she's talking about. She also has homework due a day before class which is sometimes very inconvenient. Her tests are okay and class is just kind of boring.
This teachers lecture are all over the place and confusing, and she doesn't use power points. And the tests are based off of lecture. Which makes it hard to know what to study.
I think Sister Nelson is an excellent teacher. I learned so much about money and feel like I'm a better person because of it. Her tests are hard but she reviews with you in class. You need to take good notes and study them. I've done a lot of growing up this semester because of this class.
There is reading and homework due every class. She doesn't really mention a lot of the things that will be on the test and expects you to learn the material on your own. Several classes failed her second test and she decided that it was the classes' fault for not studying hard enough and did nothing to help.
Sister Nelson makes no sense. I had her this semester and it's the hardest class in my schedule. She makes no sense in class and then the tests are pretty hard. You just have to memorize he chapters basically. When I had a traumatic funeral to go to she didn't care and I missed some assignments and my grade went from an A to a B- within 4 days.
Sister Nelson is fair; you can tell she loves her students and wants them to succeed; I have learned a ton this semester!
This has been my favorite class so far as a student. It has changed my life. I feel like I am a better person now for taking this class.
You'll work for your A but it is worth it.
Sister Nelson uses the Learning Model. You have preparations for every class. She gives good feedback on assignments. It was hard, but I really feel like I've grown alot during this class. If you can't keep up, it's not her fault, it's yours!
I actually just dropped this class because it was so much work I could't bare it. I realize it's a 300-level class and specialized for my major, but I have never had so much homework from one class before. Assignments due every single class period, sometimes two or three. Sis Nelson is very disorganized and is not available to give help. Hated it!
I was nervous about taking a finance class. Sister Nelson told us we would work hard and we did but she helped us, answered our questions, and made me feel like I could do this.
The homework load is almost ridiculous. She makes you a write an 8 page research paper, and also due that week was three papers on the 90 pages of textbook we had to read. For a 100 level class I spent more time doing homework for this class than all of my other classes combined. I kindly suggest not taking this class if it isn't for your major.
Super disorganized and confusing. Her tests made no sense and there were misspelled words all over and lacked proper grammar. Ironic, since she makes you go to the writing center for your 8 page "research" paper due 3 weeks into the semester. Lots of required outside class meetings too. She really has no idea what she is talking about. AVOID!!
ABSOLUTELY USELESS. Not clear at all and tells us at least once a class she has no idea what she is talking about, so she just reads from the book. The class would be better taught by a business teacher, or at least someone who has an idea what resource management actually is. Assignments are ridiculous and due at really weird times. No late work.
A lot of the information in this class is common sense and seems a little ridiculous that we are learning it. The tests a kind of hard because it's picking on the wording, but besides that it's an easy class.
I learned so much in this class! Yes, I had to read the textbook and do the homework. I don't like groups projects but this one really took me out of my comfort zone and helped me build confidence. Sister Nelson cares about student learning.
Anyone who finds this class difficult doesn't know what they are talking about. Negative posts are incorrect. I took the tests and saw no misspelled words or improper use of grammar. It is a 5-6 page research paper. Outside of class meetings help with it. She never once said she has no idea what she was talking about nor has she read from the book.
Yes, you have to read the textbook. Sister Nelson is willing to meet with you. All her projects have rubrics to follow - easy. I'd take this class again.
Her tests are hard so you have to take good notes and study for them. Sister Nelson cares about her students. Most enjoyable class I've taken. I learned alot!
Sister Nelson brought the spirit into our classroom. She is available outside of class if you need her. She cares about students and wants them to succeed.
I am loving this class! Learning soooo much! Working for an A but if I don't get it, I don't care because of all I'm learning. Thank you Sister Nelson!
I didn't realize how much this class would change me for the better. I use to not like studying, but after this class I've learned how to be a better student and how new knowledge not only helps me, but it helps others too because I've changed! Thank you Sister Nelson!
Sister Nelson's Money Management class was very beneficial for my husband and I to take together. We learned so much about budgeting, preparing for retirement, building an emergency fund, and anything else you could want to know about personal finance. There are a lot of assignments--but they really help you on the exams.
Sister Nelson is a fantastic person! And not really an amazing teacher. I got the feeling she didn't really know much about what she was teaching and often gave badly worded test questions. There is a lot of homework, but its all useful to know, and she helps out with extra credit and leniency with grades if you need it.
Sister Nelson was a sweet lady. However, she is SO unorganized. The entire class is a mess. She doesn't like if you use the restroom or leave during class. Each class was a waste of time. If you don't like to play games or do group work, I would try to avoid this class. Bad thing is that this class is required for certain majors.
This class isn't hard. People who don't read the chapter or come to class blame the professor.
Cons - It's a long class -lots of group work in class -lots of assignments (confusing at times) Pros -You'll learn A LOT! -She does a lot of activities because it's an 1 1/2 hr class and idk about you but I'd rather not sit through a lecture that long. -Tests are easy! -Reading is easy because it's engaged and you learn a lot of new things
I learned so much from this class! Reading the book helped me understand concepts better. Learned a lot. Sister Nelson made it fun. Loved coming to class. Classmates were awesome! An overall great class.
Sister Nelson is a nice person, but not a great teacher. She includes the Gospel, but we learned from a workbook and a textbook. We used the workbook of the 7 habits in class all the time which was easy, and were expected to read the textbook about something completely different as homework and never went over it. The TA's review sessions SAVED me
Read the book. Come to class and participate. Teacher includes spiritual insights.
Any students looking to take a real helpful class, this is it. The professor is fun and creates a really good feeling in the classroom. The content applies to everyday life and helped me be a better person.
Easiest class I've ever taken. She's super chill and laid back and all you have to do is show up and participate and you'll be fine. She lets the student choose how the semester will go and what assignments they want to do, the only big thing is using the Covey Guidebook. Other then that, you'll be fine.
She is a great teacher, and I learned a lot from her.
her quizes/tests are very simple to do good. also her couple assignments at home feel like are pass/fail like i spent 40 mintutes to rush some paper and got full credit as well as every other assignment given. idk if she changed but her ratemypro rating of 3.1 is not accurate she was easy. and awesome
I loved Sister Nelson! Her class wasn't crazy easy, but it was easy enough for anyone to get an A. Go to class and you've got an A! Super fun to listen to her lectures and really a good personal growth class.
She seems like she doesn't knows what she's talking about when it comes to money management. Some of our questions she couldn't answer or later it would appear she answered them incorrectly. Sweet lady, but not the best professor for this class.
This class would have been better if it was taught by someone else since she never really taught. We watched Covey videos, then she would make us pair up with another person and talk about what we learned from the readings. It was easy, but I didnt learn anything I could have if it were taught by someone more passionate about the subject.
I learned a lot from the textbook. I loved the reading more than I loved coming to class. She didnt teach us anything. She just showed us Dave Ramsey videos, and when someone asked a question about money, she made the rest of the class google it because she didnt know the answer. Great class, but I wish I took it with a different teacher.
I don't think she knew what she was teaching. It seemed like she was learning as she taught. The lectures are mandatory even though they seem unprepared. I don't think she spends a lot of time making lesson plans. She kind of just sits there as we watch videos, or she'll make us do in class group activities so then we teach the rest of the class.
Sister Nelson is nice but I did not enjoy taking a course from her. I felt like it was full of busy work and that sometimes she was a little all over the place. I expected a lot more from this course and from her as a professor but it was pretty boring, nothing special. Sister Nelson does make an effort to get to know and greet her students.
I give a 4 because it's a very easy class and Sis. Nelson is a sweet person and deserves a higher score. The below comments are 100% accurate though... I don't feel great about paying $2,100 a semester to talk to my "neighbor" in class every 15 minutes to discuss a video we just watched. The class structure is not good but teacher is very sweet.
Great class! Learned lots so far! Love Sister Nelson
I love how Sister Nelson incorporates Dave Ramsey into our classes. I've learned so much and have enjoyed talking with my classmates and sharing our life stories. It's been real application of course content.
This course has been amazing! I have learned so much more than expected. All assignments were applicable to life. It has changed mine!
I love how Sister Nelson starts class on a spiritual note. It helps me see how the scriptures/gospel apply to everything I am learning. Thank you Sister Nelson.
I have learned so much in this class and have grown so much from this class. My whole perspective has changed about money and I feel like I can manage what little I have better because of this class.
Sister Nelson is nice. I felt that I learned nothing of importance in this class. I also felt that she was learning as she was teaching us. Could not stand all the group discussions about a two minute video every class. Attendance is mandatory to pass.
Three weeks into the course and I am already pumped for what's coming ahead. Thank you Sister Nelson for being such a nice person and a great teacher!
The TA for the section I took was the most harsh grader I have ever seen. If you missed one part of an assignment, you would get a 0. The information learned isn't even very beneficial, mostly just common sense. There are a LOT of assignments and the teacher doesn't really care about your grade.
I like Sister Nelson. Not only is she a nice person, but she is a great teacher too! She takes care of us and expects us to learn. I like that she starts class with a scripture and a prayer and you can feel the Spirit when she teaches.
Though her grader seemed harsh, Sister Nelson was always fair. I would just email her my concerns and she addressed them in a kind and caring way. I am a shy person. I don't like participating. The one time when I did, I felt my comment was considered and valued.
Because we are finishing online, I miss Sister Nelson and her stories, her knowledge and expertise, and her sense of humor. I have learned much more than I anticipated.
I've taken a class from Sister Nelson before and loved it, but this particular class was Extremely scattered. There was a lot of busy work and the class seemed pretty pointless. Love Sis. Nelson, but I dont recommend this class at all.
I took money management from her and I didn't enjoy her teaching. However, she is much better at curriculum development (FCS400). I feel she knows more about FCS400. The work can be sometimes be challenging or overwhelming at times, but she made me comfortable to ask questions. The assignments also helped me learn to be a better teacher.
I learned some great skills in this class and I liked the class material and the textbook, but her teaching wasn't my style. Often the lessons felt little-kiddy or just repetitions of the prep without adding much of value. I liked some assignments, but others felt like busy work for sure. She forces cameras to be on and often bumbled around on Zoom
My class actually didn't see much of Sis. Nelson apart from weekly messages. Everything was books and Dave Ramsey videos. The TA was a really harsh grader as well. Assignments were long worksheets simulating house or car purchases. This professor was just a name on a screen above numerous assignments that could've been swapped with any other.
There is so much busy work in this course. It kinda felt like we were actually learning anything. As well, there was little to no enthusiasm from the teacher, with little to no feedback. Overall, it's an easy class to pass, but a waste of time.
Long tangents that kinda seemed like a waste of time. I didn't hate being in her class but I didn't really like going. Projects were fairly fun though.
Sister Nelson is awesome! Her class has taught me more practical skills than any other I've ever taken! If you want to learn how to handle money, and have a successful life and marriage, take her Money Management class! It will open your eyes to new ways to plan for the future, make wise financial decisions and be a great disciple of Jesus Christ!
This class is not difficult, however tests are a big problem. Questions are very specific and the tests are closed note and closed book. taking notes is practically useless. Three big tests are remotely proctored by proctorio and will drop your grade quickly. Lectures are scattered and a waste of time. She is hard to contact out of class.
She'll drop your grade by a 3rd at the end of the semester based on attendance. You can only miss one class & unless you have a Disability Letter your grade drops. For money management she makes you submit your entire budget- income, spending, all that, & requires pics of every meal for a week during one of the lessons. Don't take, so overbearing
Sister Nelson was great but the class was pretty boring. Everyone in the class thinks that that class is too long and should be shorter. There is a ton of reading and homework. The class was helpful. The work is based on your situation so you can learn how to manage your money which is great! Overall, it's a great class just a little slow.
Sister Nelson is the best. She is super chill and class attendance is mandatory in order to pass the class. The assignments are easy to do and understand. You spend most of the class discussing the chapters that were assigned to read and watch Dave Ramsey videos during class. Late work is accepted as well. Fall 2022 is when I took the class.
I learned something in each class. It was worth the time I spent reading and working on assignments. Love this class.
I really enjoyed this class. Sister Nelson makes it not only interesting to learn but also fun. I plan on taking another class from her.
I learned so much in this class! Sister Nelson really cares about her students. She also uses Dave Ramsey who is hilarious!
Sister Nelson uses quizzes for attendance. Expect an in-class activity as well. There are also weekly assignments, but they apply everything that is read and then taught in class. I learned a ton a feel like I'm ready to be on my own financially.
Sister Nelson is an okay teacher. She is very uptight about how her class is run. She goes until the very last minute during class time and doesn't want you to pack up your stuff until she's finished. She also is always telling students to close computers while she teaches, making it hard to take notes. Don't take unless you like a pushy teacher.
I wish I had not taken this class I really didn't learn much and it is a TON of busy work. Get ready to go back to high school. Beyond that she is easy to work with.
I feel there are mixed reviews about Sister Nelson. She truly does her best to help her students and care for them. It is important to work ahead and do not hesitate to ask hesitate her questions about the readings and homework. Highly recommend to take her class.
I don't know why she has some bad reviews, she is awesome! The class was not hard at all. Textbook was free. Attendance was taken with in-class quizzes. Assignments were pretty easy, just use the textbook, it's all there. She is very willing to help you if you have questions. Class felt long sometimes cause it was 1 and 1/2 hrs. I would recommend!
Sister Nelson is kind and willing to help. She follows the BYUI learning model pretty well, so you do a lot of group activities in class. The content was easy to understand but the tests were not fun; questions were often worded weird or asked about unimportant details from the textbook. I struggled to get an A in the class because of the tests.
Sister Nelson is great! She is very willing to work with the students when they need help. There was a decent amount of homework but not too bad for a 300 level class. There are attendance quizzes but they aren't too many points.
Fairly easy course to understand, she is a by the book teacher so don't go into the tests or quizzes with knowledge from outside the course it will trip you up. She also shows dave Ramsey videos at the end of class where he says things that do not line up with the homework or tests and you will be marked down if you don't go by the book.
This is my second class with Sister Nelson. She is very sweet and pretty easy-going. Her class is relatively easy. She gives attendance quizzes, so attendance is important. She likes to have group discussions, and there is some textbook work, but minimal.
She is fair.
Really like her as a teacher.
Fun class! There are attendance quizzes at the beginning of most of the class meetings. I feel that a lot of the assignments was effort based. If you put the effort in, then you can get a good grade. When exams happen, she is willing to talk with you about your process for the wrong answers and willing to meet in the middle with some of the answers.
She's super sweet and is willing to help! However, she can be a little boring and it's hard to pay attention because of that. As long as you turn in all your assignments on time and show up to class, you should be good.
I felt the professor didn't really know what she was talking about and the lectures were boring and way too long.
Sister Nelson is adorable, I want her to make me milk and cookies. However, I feel like most of the time the way she teaches just feels like she's saying what the textbook tells her what to say instead of actually understanding the concepts. We just do group activities every single day and it feels like a highschool class.
Teaching style is reading the required text at home, taking an attendance quiz in class, doing a time-wasting activity, and then doing homework assignments based on the text and occasionally listening to an online instructor. 4 exams, and questions aren't very related to the text, which is annoying. (proctorio)
Sister Nelson is a by-the-book teacher, so be sure to stick to the course material. The workload is manageable, and she's willing to help if you need it. I found using tools like unstuckstudy and the free textbook helpful for staying on top of things.
Sister Nelson is great! She cares about your grade and is willing to help you with it. She's also really funny!
