Dr. Aronson is a nice guy but is a bit scatter-brained. He rambles a bit but knows the subject. I hardly used the 3 books.
This guy is useless and doesn't know what he's talking about... i would advise taking Huber who teaches his class from time to time. He doesn't teach you the information on the test, you must learn this on your own. And drowns on in needless babel. He doesn't know how to transfer IT language into english. Very confusing
Avoid this class and especially this professor at all costs. My worst/ most boring class all semester. Class is worthless, but mandatory, because of attendence checks. DO NOT RECOMMEND!
The class is terrible, so he's kind of screwed as a teacher. He rambles on about the most random and unimportant things in class and sends tons of asinine emails. You just have to power through this class; all of the teachers are terrible, but you have to take it.
Christ on a cracker! I want to shoot myself in class just to break the monotonous drone of his uninforming voice! That is only a metaphor and should NOT be taken literally of course. However, this is the most useless class I have ever been forced to purchase. He does at times bring in professionals in the field to lecture or give panel discussi
like everyone says, he's boring. dont take it unless it's required by ur major. if u miss any classes just go to the SMIS meetings and u can make them-up. yawn. u'll need to book to read and look over bolded vocab words but that's about it. everyone's comments are pretty accurate.
This class is so useless. The class taught me nothing and on top of that class attendance was mandatory. Aronson would go on for an 1 and a half about things he found interesting or other stupid stuff that did not pertain to the class and then take attendance. I would not recommend that anyone take this class or this teacher.
This man does not teach at all! The more you read the book, the more you realize you have not really discussed anything of pertinence in class though attendance is mandatory. You will learn NOTHING in this class except from reading the book. Get an actual teacher for your teacher!
I found it extremely frustrating that attendance was mandatory, yet we were on our own to learn the material from the book. We spent pointless time browsing the ikea website when there was a lot of material that we could have been covering instead. I would suggest taking this class from Piercy, as the two or three times he had to cover for Aronson
Very frustrating! Professor was rather detached - we rarely did anything connected to MIS. Instruction was usually completed unrelated to the material we were tested on. If you have this professor, you will need to read each chapter of the book thoroughly and take your own notes during the semester. That being said, I did get an A.
Aronson is a great guy outside of class, but in class he is very scattered and not very useful. The material on tests is not taught in class and the powerpoints are very dry. In order to learn anything you must read the book. Piercy taught the class a couple of times and it was MUCH better! Save yourself and take Piercy from the start!!
Aronson is interesting and does his best to teach the material, but this IS programming. To do well you have to do your best to keep up in class and do some outside work by yourself. If something doesn't make sense- google it and read. OR you could make use of his frequent office hours. He is very caring about his students and tries to help.
The comments you are reading are right. This guy is a horrible teacher. Take the CSCI version of this class if you are a business major and make your life useful.
To make it short, Aronson is an idiot. With my brief background in MIS I could teach the class better than him. If you enjoy listening to frivolous personal stories that are not only irrelevant but boring. Its easy if you have some prior knowledge.
The lab was pretty easy, but the class was useless. He pretended to go over the ppt, when in reality he would talk about the music he liked or whatever interested him that day. But you have to go to almost every class because he always does some type of participation activity. His tests are a lot harder than you would expect based off of classes.
Dr. Aronson does not teach the material relevant to the test in his course. To make a good grade, you MUST do a lot of the work on your own with your book, causing double the time needed to succeed in this class. He is a nice person outside of class, but makes this class unnecessarily difficult.
Worst class ever. Unclear instructions, takes forever to grade a homework assignment/exams
Not a good teacher. If you do not have a lot of prior IS knowledge this class will be hard. I managed to pull off an A because I knew most of the stuff already. She gave a huge curve at the end though, so it was not all that bad.
Tests are hard, but there was a big curve at the end. Lab is easy, so cram for that. Read the book b/c class is pointless. There are participation/attendance grades that will bump you up several points if you just go to class. "Janine" is a nice person though." Can't use laptops and will call you out if you use one.
The class was ridiculous. There is a 1 point grade curve..that is it...do not take this teacher. He is distracting and tells pointless stories...
You'll have to learn all the material out of the book because you will literally not be taught anything in class, but you have to go everyday b/c of attendance quizzes
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH ARONSON!! I have never felt the need to leave a comment on RMP until now because he/she is literally THAT BAD. Class is useless, and the material on the tests doesn't come from the book either. Please let me save you from this class take it from ANY other teacher.
First 10 classes were wasted on a sales pitch for the major. Aronson did not properly test the programs he/she used before the semester started.
Not the most I retesting class, but the material was pretty easy, at least if you have any experience with computers and actually come to class and do your hw. Never studied for the tests and still got an A-.
Soft spoken, but she is very kind. The class itself is easy, she teaches the excel portion of it. 2myitlab&book assignments due every monday, lab assignment due every friday, and then you have to submit a file every day of class, but if you read the book and/or already know excel, it's super easy. PC's work better for this class than mac's though!
This is the worst class I have ever taken at UGA. It isn't very difficult but it's the most annoying waste of my time. This whole class is horrible. The online computer program is garbage and glitches all the time. She is a horrible teacher that does not know how to present information. Do anything and everything to not take this class with her.
She is not that great of a teacher, and she is pretty sassy sometimes. The book is very good at explaining the concepts that are discussed in class. You have lots of busy work, but it helps your grade. The tests are open book, so they are easy. Class is boring, and you have an attendance check every day. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this class.
HOW TO SURVIVE THIS CLASS:-go to class everyday, you turn in a homework assignment everyday, easy grade. -GO TO LAB, not only do you turn in a lab online but you have to actually go to the lab and get it checked off.-DON'T cheat. they know how to tell, don't share any assignments with students or you will get an incomplete.
This class was so easy. If you do the assignments and homework you will get an A easily. You really need to go to class though because attendance is important. This class is a very easy if you follow instructions I swear. I ended up getting a 99 in the class and I did not do anything extra besides go to class.
This class is fairly easy but she is a horrible teacher. Do anything possible to avoid her and this class.
It is easy to do well in Dr. Aronson's class if you really read through everything she puts on eLC (which is a lot!). Go to class and pay attention as you work through the examples. Do the book and myITlab work, and do your lab assignments before going to lab! Tests are just like the class examples and book problems. Also, they're open note :)
Janine is super funny and a really nice person. The class isn't hard it's just a lot of busy work to keep up with every week. She makes the class funny and it's a very useful class.
Janine is great. There's a lot of busy work with this class, but if you go to class and stay on top of the deadlines, it's really easy to make an A.
SUPER EASY class. SUPER hard to not get an A. Do the homework, go to class. You can't do the homework without learning all you need for the exams. If you do homework and go to class, you're guaranteed an A.
Totally confusing about grading policies, sends contradicting emails (and a lot - 80 in 1/2 semester), makes everything complicated, and posts TONS of things on ELC - many of which are useless. She knows her Excel though and if you wade through the mess you will learn it too.
Hahahaha I feel bad for you if you have to take her. It's an easy class, but she will piss you off just by being there. MyITLab will make you want to kick a puppy
Class isn't unbearable but you do have to do a lot of assignments outside of class. GET A PC. Doing her class on a Mac is really bad and sometimes the software doesn't work. Sends like 6 emails a day. "She" was alright.
Sometimes I get really annoyed with this class but it's honestly pretty easy. A lot of outside work and a lab (class should be 4 hours but only 3). Does magic tricks sometimes. Overall, super easy. I heard the finals hard but you should get 100s on almost everything else in the class.
MIST is very much a work intensive class. Part B is 3 MyIt labs, 1 lab, and 2 in-class assignments per week. The material is not difficult, but don't take the class too lightly. You have to listen in class to complete the assignments and do all the homework. My biggest suggestion is get borrow or rent a PC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dr. Aronson was highly knowledgeable in teaching her course. there were times where she relied a bit much on the TAs and always directed you to them. Though a tedious class, its an easy A. I forgot about my text assignments until the end of the semester and still did decent.
Dr. Aronson's second half of the course was way more intensive than the first half. It consists of lectures and labs. As long as you follow along during class and doing the lab work, then this class is relatively simple. Dr. Aronson is a very fair and knowledgeable professor and she always puts the learning of her students first.
Not organized with anything, has so much information on ELC that it's hard to find anything at all. The tests are not that bad, but everything is really arbitrary and disorganized. You'd think she'd be better at organization considering she teaches a class that is for organization. Avoid is possible. If not, go to class and study outside a lot.
Oh Janine... This class is a mystery, as is she. If you don't understand that, you will later. He (she) means well and does magic during class to wake people up. The class material is a joke; the entire class is based around learning excel. If you go to class and read the powerpoint you should come out with an easy A.
For MIST2090, you have to show and do the in class assignments in order to pass. There is a lot of homework, but it's easy if you stay on top of it. The textbook is really easy to understand as well. Overall, I liked her class and it was an easy A, but I don't think I'd take it again.
One of the worst professors I have had. Class isn't hard but the lectures are pointless, you don't learn anything. The labs are also pointless and a waste of time. Make sure you read the syllabus and the academic honesty portion or you will probably get accused of cheating.
It won't be fun. But it'll be so doable, it's crazy. If you do the homework (like literally turn in just one problem), you will make an A. I made a 100 on the final (the midterm and the final are open note which rocks) The lectures are long, there are labs & attendance is mandatory. But it's easy. & She's passionate about Excel which helps a lot.
Good teacher. Class was not too hard. She send out a lot of emails, though usually long and wordy. Lot of homework and lots of grades. Tests are open note which is awesome (only 2 tests for part B). Would take class again with Aronson
Take this class. She is super easy and makes the class really easy too. There are only two tests, open book open note etc. and all your online assignments can be done and redone until you get a 100. You have to try to not do well in this class!
Good ole Janine. Definitely stay on top of your weekly assignments and you'll do find. Get the book for sure. And go talk to her during office hours one day to get her advice for future classes and other skills you might need. I did and she was extremely helpful.
She is not a very good teacher but she knows what she is talking about. Make sure you go to classes and don't forget about the lab class either. The TA's will help you more than she will. She also doesn't really care about excuses or what you get in her class so don't go looking for help from her.
She's really not as bad as everyone says she is. She is very passionate about Excel and if you're a serious Business student it's important to understand at least the minimal functions that Excel has to offer. She usually tells stories that are unrelated to the material during lecture but its not a hard class at all and I found it essential.
Has one test and a final, they are open notes in class on excel. She delegates to her TAs if you need help. Class is fairly easy but have homework due every week. Makes a lecture that could be 20 minutes last an 1 hour and 15. Gets off track and talks about her life which is boring. Have to attend class because assignment due after every lecture.
Dr. Aronson is a little boring, but she really cares and is pretty nice. She can be kind of uptight, but her class is pretty easy. As long as you pay attention, the tests will be a breeze!
One of the easiest classes I've taken at uga. If you show up and follow instructions you will get an A. She gave enough extra credit that if you took advantage of all oppurtunities it raised your grade 3 points. Take this class with this teacher.
Professor Aronson only teaches the 2nd part of the course. Her lectures are pretty boring. They could actually be pretty quick but she talks about random stuff for 30+ minutes every class. There are 2 exams, both of which are incredibly easy. There are 4 weekly HW assignments that take about 3 hours. There are breakouts. Overall, I learned a lot.
Professor Aronson is pretty chill. Her class is really cool in the fact that it actually teaches you how to effectively use Excel. This class is pretty much a cakewalk. You show up, do your homework, and go to the labs, and you've got yourself an easy A. Made a 102 in the class with all the EC. .
I don't know if she had just changed the testing formats or not but the final is incredibly savage compared to the homework and in-class works. The lectures are so long when they could have easily fitted in a 45-50 mins time slot instead of a 75 mins one. Would not take if it wasn't require for Terry
Easy class. Tests are clear and open notes/book. Homework and labs are also easy. She drops your lowest grade in each category. Her lectures, though, are boring. She goes off on tangents often. She does try to make the class as interesting as possible, however. So long as you do all the homework and pay attention in class, it's an easy A.
I hated Prof. Aronson's class. She rambles for 50% of the lecture period and pushes all of your questions on to TA's. I learned everything from the breakout lab classes (which the TA's teach) and spent 2 hours every weekend doing homework out of the textbook. If possible, AVOID Dr. Aronson!
She lectures until the very end of class for everyone to submit their assignments, so everyone is pretty much in a rush. Pretty sure she's the only one who teaches this class so either way you have to deal with her, but you should do fine in the class if you keep up and go to class.
Easy class if you know how to use a computer. She is interesting.
She's the worst. Ever.
she gets off topic so easily. be prepared to fall asleep in class because what could easily be a 30 minute lecture is turned into a 75 minute rant fest. tests are confusing and the homework is pointless being that you have to do the same thing 5 times. would not recommend.
I really feel like Dr. Aronson teaches important and beneficial skills to have for the future. She is a little zany and will sometimes do magic in class. It is not the most exciting class but I gained a lot from it. She seems to be a little over-the-top organized, which I guess is not really a bad thing.
Takes forever in lectures to get to the point, and wants to only talk about her social life. You finally learn the material quickly in the last 30 minutes when everything is rushed. This class should just be taught online. Attendance required, 2 tests, 4 homework tasks every week. Not a fan.
She's really organized and cracks witty jokes. Tells lots of anecdotes, which can make class lengthy. Her half of the class is stupid easy if you go to lecture. Attendance is mandatory. Ask for magic tricks.
Dr. Aronson is insane and really annoying. She is the only professor for the class, so this review doesn't matter. Her PowerPoint slides are riddled with random photographs and completely unorganized for any reasonable person. Her lectures are painful to sit through. The homework takes forever, and the test have very few questions.
Dr. Aronson is an interesting person, she is pretty weird. You have to go to class and there are four assignments you have to do every week. Lectures are long and boring, but you do get a better understanding of how Excel works. You also have a lab with this class, but those are not bad. You have to take Aronson for part 2, so great ready lol.
Honestly, I skipped class everyday but still did the work and learned on my own cause her class and lectures are a joke. Take someone else if you can because you should go to class, but she makes it VERY hard. If you have to take the class, then go ahead but if you can avoid her please please please do. FOR THE CLASS IN GENERAL: MAKE FRIENDS.
She seems like a nice person, although I did not appreciate her sudden attacks on Trump that came up randomly while discussing spreadsheets about movie ticket prices and the like. This is such a boring class, but it's easy. Also, Pearson is the worst product I've ever seen. It crashes constantly and it's not because of the internet like she says.
Active teaching style professor. The classes are extremely slow and hard to pay attention to if you get bored with rudimentary explanation. Communication with her will set you up for an A no matter what, however. Seriously, if y'all just go up and talk to her about where you're at she'll help you out.
Lots of busy work. If you do the assignments, show up to class and try you will do fine. She's not the worst, just not the best either.
Average professor; loves magic and Excel. Super easy A if you show up to all lectures and labs (you can miss one or two). I used a Mac and it worked fine, but she advises against using Mac. MyItLab sucks, but you can Google stuff or watch videos. Exams 01 and 02 are kinda hard but just like the practice tests.
She has rocked my world! Thank you for a great semester!
She wasn't terrible. As long as you show up to all of the labs/lectures, you should do fine. She is very clear in her lectures on how to do things. Homework is an easy A. The exams are harder though, but it is open note/ open computer. She would sometimes go on annoying tangents and do magic tricks during class time, but it wasn't terrible.
Janine Aronson is a teacher who loves to listen to herself talk during lectures. The lectures are boring but helpful in understanding excel. There are 2 test and she gives a total of 6-16 questions so getting one wrong will hurt you. I would definitely not take her again. I would take computer science because you fill the same credit as MIST.
Oh Janine, she's so weird. If you follow along in lectures and give yourself plenty of time to do your homework, it's an easy A. She'll go on random tangents and sometimes do magic tricks, but the lectures are still important. Your two exams are practically identical to the practice tests, so if you can do those, then you're golden.
A great introduction to excel, it's very clear she knows what she's doing. She's taught this class several times before, although it gets pretty confusing at first. The required homework is vague, and she doesn't clearly specify what needs to be done. However, once you get the hang of it, the assignments are very easy, and the class is laidback.
Her class and her set up is very confusing, including her eLC page. She doesn't explain anything very well, and does not give any partial credit on a 6 question test. If you have the option to take someone else do not take her. She rambles about personal things that make what could be a 30 minute class take the whole time, and it gets frustrating.
She is frequently off topic in class and spends half the class talking about things that aren't relevant. She has directions to do the work on the powerpoint, so she should know how to do things but does not. She is so slow on teaching things and really needs to take the course again herself.
Janine loves to hear herself talk I'll tell you that much. She's the only professor for Part B so you're stuck with her. The online homework is really easy - you can submit is as many times until you get a 100%. For this class you get 1% rounding point and 0.5% rounding point for doing the course evaluation. You have to go to class for your grade
I think people are too hard on Dr. Aronson. She is definitely a little weird and unorganized, but she means well. She just wants to tell you everything about Excel, and she is very excited about it. Lectures are painfully boring and makes what should be a 30 minute class 75 minutes long every time. Make sure you do all the assignments.
Dr. Aronson knows what she's doing and is a good-natured person. I had an easy time with this half of the class. Once you get the hang of the whole process, it's not too difficult. Lectures do stretch on unnecessarily long, but Excel is definitely something useful to know.
As everyone else has already said, she's definitely a little weird, but if I had to take another class in MIST, I would take her again in a second. Class is somewhat boring, but the material really is useful, and if you put in the work, this class is an easy A. Definitely recommend.
Classtime is quite useless even though you'll need to come for credit. Going through Aronson's 200+ slide powerpoints in class wasn't helpful. Also MyLabsPlus will make you want to pull your hair out.
MIST is a 2 part course. Her part is all excel. At first it was confusing what homework needed to be turned in but there are basically four assignments per chapter with 7 chapters. You can turn them in way ahead to time. Class was very chill. All we did was follow along with her as we worked on excel sheets.
Definitely an easy A. All tests are open book/notes, and you can submit the homework as many times as you need to get a 100. Only challenging part of this course comes from the quizzes in part A.
She only teaches the second half, but this entire course is not really the most interesting thing to take. You do have to work for it though. There are only two tests, but they are open textbook. If you show up to class and follow her class work its really not that bad. The TAs also do reviews before the tests and she releases old tests as practice
Boring lectures, but they have in-class assignments so you have to go to class. Lots of HWs and the labs are boring too but helpful if you don't know something. The TAs are basically your main source of help. If you know excel it is a easy class, but if you never worked with excel before, you need focus on the HWs. Do the practice tests.
She is terrible at explaining anything and her eLC page is extremely confusing. Made what should've have been an easy A harder. So much busy work that is unhelpful, and half of her lectures are a waste of time because all she talks about his her personal life. If there is an option, take someone else!
Really condescending, boring lectures, but very easy class. She teaches part B of 2090 and its basically just learning how to use excel. She will call you out in class for using your phone lol so be careful. The tests are tricky so just double check everything. Lots of (easy) hw). Her 20 page syllabus is very confusing.
TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE. It is so easy, and it ends before the end of a traditional semester, so you don't have to worry about it anymore. There were a lot of group projects, but none of them were very difficult and my group never actually had to meet in person. We just did everything on a google doc and communicated with a groupme.
Dr. Aronson didn't give me the greatest first impression, but she is super nice and cares that you do well. The class itself is super easy as long as you do the weekly assignments and show up to class. There are 2 tests and they were both really easy as long as you understood the excel files in class
The class is unnecessary. She drags out the 1 hour 15 minute lecture that could really take 15 minutes to explain. The homework is redundant and takes hours, but she's a nice person and honestly the CLASS IS EASY, she is NICE, but her class is UNNECESSARILY TEDIOUS. also def possible to do the class w/a mac.
Aronson has a sh!tty personality, but the class is very easy
You do NOT have to go to class, she post the powerpoints of what you have to do in class the day before. So i would just do the assignment the day before and submit it by the deadline in class. SUPER EASY
Honestly this class was super easy but she drags out her lectures. What she teaches you in an hour and fifteen minute period could easily be learned within 20 minutes. She gets side tracked easily and has some obsession with showing the class random pictures mid lecture; typically consisting of images of Costa Rica. The lectures are insanely boring
A little too fat. Kept eating my sandwiches. Avoid at all costs.
The second part of MIST 2090 itself was easy enough but she is extremely confusing as a professor. She does not have an organized filing system. Her lectures are draining and she gets off topic very fast. It is easy to get an A in this class as long as you stay focused and do all your assignments
Dr. Aronson takes an hour to teach and go over the work that could be finished in ten minutes. Goes off topic insanely fast and the class is all over the place. Random pictures of Costa Rica in the slides (?). Lots of homework but the class is extremely easy.
Great class! Dr. Aronson changed my life. She opened my eyes to a new way to critically think. I spent a lot of time with her during office hours for some great 1 on 1 teaching.
Most unorganized teacher I have ever came across. the syllabus alone is 27 pages and just confuses you. When you ask a question she tells you to refer to the syllabus. She will not answer your questions unless you are wailing your hand around-- she has a specific code for answering in class questions. She also goes very fast.
Syllabus is unorganized, terrible course explanation.
She is a very unique person. She does magic tricks during class and can start to ramble, but if you go into class expecting that it will be less annoying. It's a 75 minute lecture for material you can learn on your own in 15 minutes, but if you don't go to 50% of the classes she auto-fails you. There is also a daily participation grade.
Dr. Aronson is overall a pretty average professor. She really drags out her lectures more than they need to be, so going to class can be a pain sometimes. There's a lot of homework but it does help you learn the material. Overall, easy class because it's just going over how to work the different features of Excel.
Her classes aren't hard at all, but it is a HUGE workload. It's extremely easy to procrastinate and be unable to do it all, so start early and just get it over with. She also turns 20 minutes worth of material into over an hour long lecture. This entire class is straight homework and should be an easy A as long as you just put in the effort.
Janine wastes 1 hour and fifteen minutes of your life every Tues and Thurs with a long lecture that could take 15 minutes. Useless info about personal life and magic and music and athens and stuff that youll just be like wth are we talking about. Its all really easy tho if you figure out how to get vLab to work consistently on your Mac
Dr. Aronson's class is the most unorganized class I have ever had (200+ slides for a single lecture). She also takes the entire 75 minutes for what could be done in 30. The homework is a little time consuming as well (3-4 hours per week). The class itself is extremely easy though and exams are very similar to the practice exams.
Part B is more complicated than it should be. The instructions and everything will be overwhelming at first but don't worry, you will get the hang of it. Dr. Aronson's lectures seem long and boring but towards the end of the semester, you will appreciate the slow pace. She will tell you to get a PC, but you can do just fine with a Mac & VLab.
This class was not my favorite. I thought Dr. Aronson was a little condescending, and didn't go over the things that were mainly on the test as well as she could've; I felt like we did more formatting of excel when we really needed to practice more equations. Unfortunately she is the only option for this class, but it is bearable.
Tests give no partial credit but have many parts to each question. You could get all of it right, make one SMALL mistake, and your whole answer is wrong. Weekly hw that takes 2+ hrs to do; sometimes people struggled and it took them much longer. More difficult than it needed to be.
I do not have complaints about many classes as professors teach in different ways. I like that Aronson seems to care about what she does, however the Excel course is so unnecessarily complex and tedious, and the organization is AWFUL. Most of the stuff you can learn on your own or with a quick walk-through but she drags all the assignments out.
so unorganized its insane. what can be done in twenty minutes is stretched to an hour and fifteen minutes.
The things taught in part b of this class are important and can be used in the real world but i didnt like the way it was taught at all. There is no credit for correct work only correct answers. There are multiple in class assignments every day so you cant skip. There are also SO many homework assignments its absurd. 0/10 would take her again.
A lot of these reviews are very negative, but I would just like to say that Dr. Aronson is actually a very caring person. She does expect that you do your work, but that's what you should be doing anyways, so all of these people talking negatively are just lazy. Each assignment only counts for a small percentage, which only helps you in the end.
This class is an organizational nightmare. It will likely take you a few weeks to truly get into routine, and you will end up missing things. Her lectures are brutal because the material could be taught in much less time. BUT, her exams are open notes/file and Excel isn't hard to get the hang of. Expect a time commitment and you'll be okay.
Professor Aronson is very kind, unless you have your phone out. She still doesnt understand that phones have cellular data and dont have to take up all the ports on the WiFi her class is easy and tests are open notes. I took off a point for mandatory attendance and took off a point for no phones. I actually learned from this class. 3 Stars
Universally hated, even by the TAs. This semester she doubled the amount of eLC quizzes to the point that if you're not checking eLC at least twice a day you'll probably miss something. It's not like you have a choice, so I'll just say this: do as much work in advance as possible. Excel isn't hard, she is. Easy A, just don't fall behind!
At first glance the class may seem disorganized, but as you get into the hang of things the class gets much easier. There is a large amount of repetitive homework but it helps reinforce the lessons taught in class. You can clearly tell that she cares about the subject and the class. Should be an easy A if you keep up with all the assignments.
The class is disorganized. Yes, there is homework due on the same day weekly, but she also has assignments due at random times and days throughout the week. For example, we had a quiz due at 9:30 AM on a Saturday. Also, her lectures are boring and a pain to sit through. Easy A, but the class overall just sucks.
Many unnecessary assignments that you'll get a 25 on with no feedback on the previous ones, so you have no clue what you are doing wrong. At the end of each class there is a quiz she give as the class ends, but has to be submitted within 15 min. Super unorganized and spends half the class talking about irrelevant pictures. No partial credit.
Janine Aronson is hands down the worst professor I have ever had. She has an unnecessary amount of quizzes and the due dates are extremely unclear. Also, if you make one little mistake on any of her quizzes, you will get a zero, which is ridiculous considering the fact that she has gotten the answer wrong on over a dozen quizzes.
For your own good take Comp Sci...
Ridiculous amount of assignments. Even the best student will get tons of points off for missed assignments, simply because it's impossible to keep up with it all. The material for this class isn't hard, but the lack of organization makes it hard. Lectures (200+ slides) could be condensed into 40 min. if Aronson didn't go off on tangents all day.
The class is very disorganized and it's nearly impossible to keep up with all of the quizzes and assignments, especially at the beginning. Once you figure out what you need to turn in, the class is easy. I learned a good amount from this class, but it was a ridiculous amount of work.
She is a good teacher, but beware of the homework and quizzes. DONT SLACK. There's at least 3-4 quizzes per chapter and sometimes more. The quizzes and homework are repetitive so you dont forget the material, however it is VERY tedious. Overall solid class, but lots of work.
This was the worst class I've ever taken in my entire life. Overall, the material was super easy to understand. Dr. Aronson made this class miserable because of her constant rambling during lecture and ridiculous amount of homework. Stay on top of the assignments and you'll be fine. Just be prepared to want to rip your eyeballs out during lecture.
There's so much work to do, but it's really simple stuff. You can understand it very easily but you need to remember to do things before it's due. There's also not partial credit, so if you mess up one step, you get it wrong. Easy A if you remember to do everything on time.
SO MANY ASSIGNMENTS. something like 16 per week. ridiculous amount of assignments and she goes off on random tangents during class about beaches she's been to. like c'mon janine, just teach me my excel and let me go home pls
The amount if assignments with due dates scattered throughout the week is ridiculous. You'll have to keep a second calendar just to avoid zeroes in this class.
Tons of fairly small assignments for homework, easy to lose track and miss deadlines. However, if you do keep track it's easy to get at least a high B, it's an effective way to learn the material. Lectures are fine, but could be completed in a fraction in the class period.
I had her for her Organizational Decision Making FYOS. She's super laid back, a little weird, and very approachable. Participate and be ready to be forcefully thrust from your comfort zone in this particular FYOS, though I suspect she does that in everything she teaches.
Material itself is easy but the workload is where you trip up. Around 6 or more assignments per week. Tests are open notes so that part is easy. If you miss more than 3 lectures you're screwed. Do not take at 8 am.
SO. MUCH. WORK. The class will probably be the easiest class you ever take, but it will probably also have the most busy work you ever had. For one chapter, there are at least 5 assignments to complete. The lectures are mandatory and boy oh boy are they long and tedious. What could be a 30 minute lecture turns into an hour 15. Easy but tedious A.
This is easily one of the most inefficient classes I have ever taken. There is an absurd amount of unnecessary busy work that has absolutely no pertinence to the class. Lots of class time is wasted doing meaningless tasks. Overall the class is not hard but it is contains an extremely unreasonable amount of work to very little benefit.
I have only been to 2 classes & I can already tell you that this class will be useless. She assigned us HW before we even had our 1st class & expects us to do far too much tedious work. She told me I'd fail (because I have a Chromebook & cannot afford a PC) & then admitted she doesn't understand how Chromebooks work at all. Worthless class & prof.
literary the MOST confusing course in my life. multiple random websites and random rules. the text book, website, syllabus, elc is like an actual MAZE. I have never been so frustrated with a college class except blankenship's chem class(who had a 1.4 on here). This class is hard in so many unnecessary ways, NOT worth the credit hours.
The concepts gone over in class are not difficult at all... However the amount of work given and the way its all formatted is actually ridiculous. It is almost as if she thinks that this this is the only class/time commitment we have. Not to mention the way she has laid everything out is more complicated than it needs to be.
Puts an unbearable amount of documents and homework up until it's way too confusing on what you have to do. There are way too many assignments for just learning the basics of Excel to the point that the word overkill doesn't even describe it.
she is god awful. SOOOOOOOOOO MUCH WORK AND STUFF TO LOOK THROUGH you literally spend hours just trying yo find out what to do and what's due. The hw is so particular and there's so much of it you'll probably give up. Cannot stand this class but unfortunately can't avoid it or her :) good luck
Her syllabus and syllabus details (basically syllabus 2) make no sense. In total there are about 500 little quizzes ranging from 1-10 questions due nearly everyday. This class is a w f u l. The information is not hard but she is petty about her assignments, NOT available outside class, and the work is all identical, useless busy work.
7+ assignments to do each week via eLC (Im not kidding), all due at different times throughout. Almost impossible to keep track of everything. Lectures are boring, but you have to pay attention to submit the file at the end of class. Would be a much easier class if the assignments schedule wasnt so unclear.
She is literally the worst professor I have ever had in my life. The content is relatively easy but she piles on 300+ quizzes and assignments for HALF A SEMESTER. its impossible to keep up with everything and most of the time you dont know where you went wrong. I wouldnt consider it an easy A
This class is a very very easy A as long as you do all the work, and there is a lot. She goes a little fast when explaining things sometimes, but as long as you pay attention and stay up to date with doing all of your work, you will definitely do fine in the class!
this is quite POSSIBLY the worst class i have had at uga. this class isn't difficult by any means but the work load is insane. get ready to do 10 assignments a week and buy a planner because you are not going to be able to keep up without it. if you like to just sit for 75 minutes and copy a screen, this is the class for you!
I really loved part A of this course, but part B is such a drag. Aronson makes this class so much longer than it needs to be, what could be a 35 minute lecture is an 95 minute lecture. She loves to talk about herself and there's a TON of homework. You really have to be really active on ELC to make sure you are not accidentally missing something
Teaching wise I would say that she knows how to get the material in your head (granted it's not that hard), but the killer is the workload. You can know all the content and still end up with zeros on assignments because you didn't know they were due. There are about 10 assignments due a week all on different days and at different times. Good luck
The class isnt that bad. The material is easy, but there is an excessive amount of homework and pre-lecture assignments. Its not like Janine doesnt show you how to use Excel effectively. If you came in not knowing anything about Excel, you will learn a good bit.
This class has a ridiculous amount of useless busy work. I have never gotten below an A at UGA and take my grades seriously, but because of the 300+ assignments due on completely random days I have missed multiple assignments. She wastes class time with nonsense and does a poor job of explaining the material. ELC is super unorganized. BEWARE
People complain about the workload in this class, but it's easily manageable once you get a routine. Content is pretty easy, and Janine is boring but not horrible.
A difficult class with a lot of work, but if you attend class and do all of your homework, you should be able to do well on the tests and the final. Prof Aronson is very funny and attempts to make the learning material interesting. Not a bad class overall.
Janine is very knowledgeable in what she teaches and does make lecture a bit boring, but you come out of the class knowing how to work with Excel. People LOVE to complain about the workload, but you can't just come to UGA expecting to get an easy A in every class. You have to keep up with assignments, but she is constantly reminding us to do them.
Showing up to class is practically mandatory because you have to turn in your excel file at the end of each lecture, and if you miss class, you'll be lost. There are like 40 quizzes and 21 different assignments that take a lot of time outside of class and are easy to forget about. Some grades get dropped, and the two tests are both open note.
Janine does magic tricks sometimes so that's cool ig. However, I have no idea who thought it was a good idea to let her structure a class like this. When I say there are 10 assignments due each week, it's not an exaggeration. Assignments are open for 24-48 hours only so unless you're checking elc 24/7, good luck charlie. Take this somewhere else!
Aronson is very entertaining and nice however she will go really fast sometimes when explaining certain formulas or other functions of excel. This can be frustrating and cause you to fall behind in class, and then on all of the in-lecture assignments. You have quizzes before, during, and after the lectures as well as 3 major assignments each week.
Janine wasn't a bad teacher, but the workload is ridiculous. There were quizzes before, during, & after every lesson, in addition to multiple homework assignments due in one week. It takes up so much of your time outside of class & can be really hard to stay on top of. Her tests are open book & easy if you understand all of the quizzes & assignment
So many assignments you'll lose your mind. Concepts are easy but the assignments and quizzes are open for short amounts of time all throughout the week so it's easy to lose track/ forget. Lectures are so long and boring and she spends so much time talking about personal things. Easy to fail quizzes if you make one error with spacing, commas, etc.
It was okay. As many people have pointed out, it has a ton of assignments and quizzes but they do help a lot when it comes to understanding the material. I liked Janine and her personality. She has everyone's best interest in mind and she is teaching a class that is essentially an easy A (and she admits this). All you have to do is stay on top.
This class can be extremely tedious with the amount of work it requires. However the exams she does are open note and the assignments typically aren't difficult, with the exception of Chapter 7 (which completely blindsided me). You definitely need to attend class each day, or at the very least miss 2 or less. She's not a bad teacher at all.
This teacher is horrible. Aronson doesnt know how to stay on topic and keep the students engaged, and there is so much unnecessary busy work for this class. The tests themselves arent hard and excel is useful in every day life, but aronson finds a way to ruin it for the students and make it way more difficult than it should be. Horrible teacher!
Janine seems very nice, but this class is SO much work. It's hard to stay on top of the quizzes. I found the tests difficult, but I also do not understand excel. Cool magic tricks though. Not bad if you have time.
Do not take this class. I was excited to be an MIS major and Dr. Aronsons class was so awful that I changed my major. She makes MIST very boring. The class is way too much unnecessary work and unless youre ready to do 4+ hours of work everyday avoid taking this professor
Do not take this class if you don't have to. There are so many assignments due before every class and you get no reminders to do them, so it's easy to get 0's. On the bright side, it's okay to miss some or do bad on the tests because the little assignments cushion your grade. Overall, definitely do not take this if you don't have to.
A lot of people in my class didn't care for Dr. Aronson, but I thought she was a good professor. There are a lot of assignments to do on your own, but they really help and as long as you stay on top of the work, you should be fine. She also has extremely detailed ppt slides which are helpful. Midterm/final count for a lot of your grade.
I heard this professor was very difficult in class so I took it online and it was extremely easy. I made a 99 in the class and that is because I made a 100 on everything but the final. She is a very easy grader. The whole class you work in groups besides the two quizzes. which are an easy 100. Take this class for an easy A.
Do not take unless required. The workload is unnecessarily huge, and this is only because she wants it to be this way.
Ruined my view of MIST. Terribly boring, and gets upset when all of the students call her out for being a horrible teacher. Gives poor instruction and an extremely large amount of work. Do not take this class unless you have to.
Hey so, you don't have a choice cause she's usually the only person who teaches this class. It's not hard, but she is arguable the most annoying professor I've had at this school. 10/10 would not recommend, sorry.
Online class was so pathetically easy. It is middle school level. Nothing like her regular classroom class. Can't believe this is a uga class.
This is the most annoying class and teacher. Too many assignments. She is all over the place and wastes class time talking about random things. Do not recommend. Flipped classroom type situation
Expect hours upon hours of homework daily from a professor who forgets half of their lecture. Awful, dry humor that nobody laughs at except for herself. Quizzes will have material on them that the professor herself has admitted to not having in the associated video/material.
Dr. Aronson is very caring and I would 10/10 take her again. I actually think her dry humor is funny. Being a novice to excel, i never would have thought i could catch up with my classmates. I am so glad that her lectures are at a good pace that i can follow through. i am glad that she has many assignments because it helps for acing your exams.
Dr. Aronson is quite a character. She is a bit weird and her humor is something else. This class maybe one of the only ones that I make sure to go to class on time and stay awake from beginning to end. While there many assignments, a few slip ups wont affect your grade too much.
By far one of the worst professors at UGA. Very surprised she is still employed. Her lectures are horrible, and the homework load is mind-blowing. She makes the class much worse than it has to be. She also makes it impossible to miss a single class, and does silly magic tricks to try and keep her miserable students intrigued.
Tons of work that is incredibly repetitive. Solid at conveying the material, but hard to connect to.
Spends more time talking about the "pictures" included in her powerpoints than actually teaching the material. Even when she does teach, she flies through everything. If you get behind, she doesn't bother answering any questions, and you are left catching up the rest of class. So many things due every week (like fri nights or sat morn). HORRIBLE.
Aside from the truth about the insane amount of assignments and workload a week, I am currently sobbing in a study room wondering how an all A student can be doing so poorly in a class. She doesn't "teach" anything. She plugs in 10 letter/number formulas in excel in a blink of an eye and moves on. Complete lack of sympathy for slow learners.
Overall, MIST 2090 was not too bad. Professor Aronson teaches Part B of the course, and this is when the work begins to pick up. The course isn't too hard if you attend class, but Topic 7 is pretty tough to understand. There are a lot of assignments, but if you get into a system and stay on top of your work it is doable.
If you do well in Part A, it makes Part B a lot less stressful. Several hours of homework/assignments every week (you're doing the exact same thing 4 times in a row), 2 question quizzes, and very fast paced lectures. She can often be pretty rude. The exams are easy, and as long as you do most of the assignments, you'll be okay.
She teaches part B and its terrible. There are so many assignments every week, you can't catch a break with this class. It's not that hard of material, it's just sooo much that it feels overwhelming. There's no way around this teacher, so just prepare yourself for a lot of work and frustration. Lectures move very fast and you don't want to miss any
This is one of the worst professors I've had at UGA. The amount of homework in this class is insane. There could be 10 assignments due in a span of 1 week. Also, she posts random pictures from across the world that she has been to and goes off topic about that for lots of the lecture. Can be rude to students who ask questions. Would not recommend
She wont answer any of your questions with a straight answer. She is about as boring as watching paint dry. Its a shame such a useful class is taught by this person because she is doing all students a disservice. She assigns massive amounts of pointless HW and even cursed out a student in a lecture.
I would never recommend to take this teacher. She does know the material of this course and can teach it well. However, she spends MAJORITY of the class time talking about herself, her personal life, showing random pictures and doing magic tricks. She does this instead of spending class time teaching. It is EXTREMELY frustrating!! DO NOT TAKE!
Her inability to give an engaging lecture and tendency to bully students (she threatened to call the UGA police and swore at group of harmless students) has made me disappointed in UGA for not supervising this professor and how she runs a classroom. I feel intimidated and fear backlash to speak to her personally when I have trouble with material.
Professor Aronson is the only option for part B of MIST. This class is not bad at all if you make sure you are keeping up with all the assignments. The work load seems daunting at first, but as you go through it, it is manageable. The classes are not the most interesting thing, but she does help explain some difficult topics.
She is literally the worst. She is so proud of herself for everything she has done and it shows to an unbearable extent. The good news is you only have her for half of the semester for this class. The work and content is relatively easy though as long as you go to lecture and do the assignments (of which there are many).
Dont listen to the negative reviews. There is alot of assigments, but all of them are easy to complete and can be done in about a couple hours each week. People who are complaining are not organized and will struggle in later MIS classes. She is super nice, and wacky in a good way. Easy concepts, and you can miss a few things and still have an A
This class just has tons of homework, but it is not hard material. If you have good time management skills you can get the assignments done in 4 hours. Aronson is not the most engaging teacher ever, but she will show you step by step how to do excel which is very helpful. She talks about herself a lot, shows random pics, and does magic tricks.
She is most likely your only choice. I read her reviews before taking the class and I think they are way too harsh. She is fine at teaching excel and the class is very doable. There is a lot of out of class work, but it really helps you learn the material. Also, you only have her for over a month, so just get through the work load.
This has been the worst class I've ever taken. The material is easy but Mrs. Aronson is a horrible teacher. She spent most of the time talking about her personal life. She goes way too fast over the material. There are way too many useless assignments like 10 a week. Only 5 of them are helpful, the rest are just a waste. Organize, and Good Luck
Honestly she's fine. Anyone who says otherwise needs to wake up and realize life isn't handed to you. She teaches the material very outright in lecture, there are homework assignments to practice the material, and the tests are cake. She hates when people don't listen and then ask for help. Don't be that guy. Do your work. You'll be fine.
This class is so easy if you just do the homework and go to class. Excel teaches itself. Yes, there is a LOT of weekly homework but if you spread it out it's nothing. I did it all the night it was due every week and it still wasn't bad. The syllabus is about 4382 pages long. Overall, Janine is pretty funny and the class is cheese.
Honestly very surprised that Prof Aronson has not been fired yet. I've never had a teacher make something that could be so simple so awful. One look at the 32 page syllabus and you'll understand. On top of her unnecessary structuring of the class she is just not a nice person. She's very rude and makes it hard to ask questions. Take it online.
MIST 2090 seems to be a lot easier online than in person. If you can, take the online version. Class is done in 8 weeks and assignments are very straightforward and fair.
The most confusing class ever. Trying to understand the revised schedule during this time of online instruction is a HEADACHE. This is your only resort for a professor for MIS and I would like to say that I am sorry and remember this too shall pass.
Horrible professor and a class structure that is way too difficult for a program that could be taught so much easier. Thinks the course is amazing and that it deserves some type of award when literally every student is annoyed and confused with the layout. Do the work, but good luck understanding what work TO do!
Janine is the only teacher that teaches this class, which is why i was forced to take her. She makes the simplest things extremely complicating, which can affect your grade poorly. The syllabus and schedule together are over 30 pages long. I do not understand why she still has her job. She never gives a straight response, if you need help.
No. Just no. Way too many homework. Her syllabus is an equivalent to those Terms of Service that you never read but click accept anyway. Its 30 pages long. When you ask her for information, she just tells you to read the syllabus. She says her ELC documents are super organized but its really not. Its way to complex making it hard to find things.
I wish UGA read RMP reviews and take action with this class. This professor has the most ridiculous class I have ever seen. I do not even know what assignments to do. Such a simple concept of Excel that has been made in to the worst possible format imaginable. Don't bother asking questions, you will be greeted with a rude response.
Easy content but she makes it very complicated, I dread looking at elc because it's like a maze, it takes longer to figure out what work to do than the actual work itself, she is pretty unforgiving when it comes to any mistakes which is really frustrating because they are often due to her lack of organization.
One of the worst professors at UGA. How people like Mrs Aronson are still employed is beyond me, and so is the ridiculous lack of a clear grading schematic in this class. Mrs Aronson is nothing less than totally inept.
Awful professor, a crazy amount of assignments for something that could be extremely simple. Lectures are long-winded and often about himself. If you can avoid this teacher do it.
Her ELC was the reason I was put on benzos. Good luck to you.
DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE! Take the online version of this course and I promise you will not regret it. Self-obsessed, intentionally cruel, out of touch, mean-spirited are some great words to describe Janine. Some how she turned an excel class into a living nightmare. Save yourself, do not take it.
If u can, take online. Only half the semester, completely different curriculum than in-class mist, easy readings, weekly discussions, weekly group projects that were a pain but graded easily, some excel assignment (kinda hard) and certificate (easy), 2 quizzes (doable), final (doable). Nothing in this class was difficult.
hated her and her class. excel isn't supposed to be a hard thing to learn, but 20 assignments each week doesn't help. probably a narcissist.
This is the worst class I have ever taken. Part A was fine, but Part B is the worst thing that can happen to you. You will spend hours upon hours doing busywork in Excel. It is confusing and none of it makes sense with what you're being "taught." DO NOT take this class and DO NOT take Aronson. If possible, FIND ANOTHER CLASS.
This class is alot at first. There are alot of different things due at different times, so read everything she gives you because it is important to understand how the course works. Once you get into it nothing is really that hard, there are just alot of different assignments. Stay on top of the work and you will be fine.
If I were forced to take MIST with Janine again, I would transfer.
I took Janine's 9 week class to finish MIST 2090. I strongly advise you to not take the class. It is the most poorly structured class I have ever taken. There are a million documents about how the course is structured and she expects us to read them all. There are at minimum 10 assignments due in a week. Excel should not be this complicated.
Don't freak out reading these reviews. Yes she is a pain and her class is frustrating, BUT the assignments are not hard. There are a lot of them but you can make 100s on most of them. Her class is unorganized and ELC is congested with necessary info. If you have to use vlab, don't freak out. Just make sure to keep saving your work in a flashdrive
The material itself is not difficult. As many have said, work ahead of pace and you'll be fine. Don't let the negative reviews scare you, I promise. It does take a while to get used to what she demands but I honestly found the assignments helpful when it came to solidifying my knowledge to move to the next chapter. Aronson is a decent professor.
Don't be scared by reading the reviews! Yes, there are lots of assignments, eLC info is all clogged up, and it's not a very well-structured class, but otherwise, you will be fine if you keep up with all the work. There were group projects and you just have to hope you get a good group. I recommend taking this online (like I did) to get it over with
It's such a shame that Janine Aronson is the only Part B teacher at UGA. Definitely the worst teacher/ course layout I have ever experienced in my life. This is a warning just to be prepared for a class/ professor that is not enjoyable even for a second.
Aronson made this course SO much more difficult than it had to be. It's ridiculous that figuring out what assignments to do takes just as much time as the assignments themselves because her course schedule is the length of the bible. She truly couldn't care less about her students and never stops bragging about herself.
Part A of this course was great, we had a different professor that did not require much work. Part B was TERRIBLE. There were so many assignments, the most I have ever had to turn in for a class, and she was not accessible. She does not take your questions, but refers you to the TA's. I had stuff due on the weekends. She is not excel certified.
This is one of the most frustrating classes I've been in. The assignments are arbitrarily organized and difficult to find. I had no idea of when assignments were due and when exams occur. Dr. Aronson was rude when students asked questions to clarify assignments. The content of the class isn't hard, but you are on your own with clarification.
The way she runs her course is convoluted and overwhelming. Her overuse of bold, underlines, and lack of clear design make the course docs hard to navigate. I would have done better in the class had she made the instructions of the course more concise, as not to confuse students. Content isn't hard, but she tries her best to make it difficult.
The base of the class---Pearson assignments--is tedious but not unreasonable. However, Dr. Janine Elyse Aronson is by far the most unreasonable, unapproachable, and superior-minded professor I've ever had. She demands so much out of her students that she herself is overwhelmed. Incredibly unfortunate that she is the face of MIST at UGA. AVOID
Easily the worst teacher/professor I've had in my life. She's obsessed with herself and brings up her abilities, talents, and hobbies all the time. She calls herself a professional magician but can barely do magic. All the documents that give the framework for the class (syllabus, assignment dates) are a maze. Horrendous teacher, take online
Worst class at UGA by far. Dr. Aronson's elc page is so disorganized that it is nearly impossible to figure out what assignments are due. Unfortunately, Dr. Aronson is the only option for this class, so you're probably stuck with her. Make sure you do all of the assignments and you should be fine.
She will treat you like a second class citizen if you have a Mac. In the end excel is nearly identical between PC and Mac. I managed to pull off an A without using V-Lab once. It isn't worth the hassle. On another note, can't believe what she just put us through. This class took more time than my other four combined. Completely unnecessary.
You're learning Excel, so there's gonna be a lot of practice involved. If you don't keep up with the work, you're gonna drown in it. If you keep up, you'll be fine. Aronson is not approachable, but she lays most things out for you in the syllabus, so you don't need to ask. That being said, there is a lot of convoluted rules for the class.
My biggest problem with this class is the organization. ELC is cluttered with a ridicuouls about of information that is not needed. The syllabus is 32 pages, there are 3 docs for exam instructions. There are multiple documents saying THE SAME THING and it just makes everything so confusing and then she gives rude responses when we ask questions.
She is so rude when people ask questions. Maybe if her page wasn't a maze, people would not have such a hard time finding and understanding things. Also I agree about her treating mac users like second class citizens. She is so rude when people with macs ask her questions. Dont freak if you have to use vlab it is not as scary as she makes it sound
She needs some organization lessons. NO syllabus should be over 30 pages. There are 3 documents for exam instructions. I just don't understand why she puts out so much info on simple things. It makes it more confusing
Not a hard class just do the assignments on time. It is a frustrating class but you'll get through it. she is probably your only choice, so there is not much you can do. Just be on top of your assignments and you will be fine
The work is generally easy in this class. With that being said, Professor Aronson's organizational skills could definetly use some work. Finding assignments and homework has never been more difficult. The lectures could not be more boring. Overall she is passionate about the subject matter but just needs to make the course more easily accessible.
She posts WAY WAY too many details, it makes it so hard to keep track of what we actually need to do and what's just fluff. She posts 700 documents and you have to find the right one when most of them are not essential. she is very educated on excel, but does not care for her students and does not offer extra credit or any lenience on late assign.
A lot of people don't love her teaching style. I personally found the class easy and interesting. I've retained everything that she taught. Most of this class was online for me, so I wasn't really watching her lectures. It seems like a lot to do, but it's just the way she teaches and the material is pretty simple. 100% would take again.
Although the class was easy, Dr. Aronson makes the content way too difficult to understand. Her syllabus alone is over 30 pages. During lecture you have to take quizzes, while theyre easy, they do not reflect the content from the lecture, so youll have to spend several minutes on them. If you answer incorrectly, theres no way of knowing why.
MIST2090 is an easy class if you stay on top of all the assignments. There is a lot of work, but if you pay attention during the lectures it is easy to do. Attendance is important because there are in-lecture assignments that are graded. The tests are just like the assignment questions from Part B. I highly recommend Aronson!
I took it online. It was the easiest class I have ever taken in my life. Almost every assignment is group work. Basically participation and if you try you get an A. You finish the entire course in half of a semester and get full credit. I spent maybe 2 hours per week on average the whole time. Take it online.
Class was a breeze if you pay attention in lecture and do all of the assignments on time. Very homework heavy but if you enjoy excel, you'll like the class. Assignments and lectures can be confusing at times but nothing too difficult to figure out. She says exactly what she expects so if you do the work, you should get a good grade!!
This is a busy work class, lots in in lecture participation, and after class homework. There are a ton of assignments. Not difficult just annoying. Easy A if you put in effort.
Dr. Aronson is a decent teacher. She knows what she is taking about. Her lectures are filled with her semi-funny jokes which can be a little annoying. You do have to work for her class. Classes are mandatory, and you will lose points for not showing up. There are many small tedious assignments. You have to study and pay attention to get an A.
She is kinda weird and quirky. She's nice but a horrible professor. If you have trouble understanding things she won't help you. SO SO SO MUCH busy work. An extreme amount of useless activities and she is strict with deadlines. Her documents are extremely confusing and it is hard to know what to do when. 32-page syllabus!!! Good Luck.
I'd advise to avoid professor Aronson. Firstly, if you have a Mac, consider yourself obsolete to her because she has no use for them. She suggests you buy a PC or use a secondary engine on your MAC. The class starts off easy and then all of a sudden, the class becomes very hard. It's not impossible to do well but she does put up roadblocks.
She's really nice and makes a lot of really corny jokes. There's a LOT of excel assignments, but as long as you keep up with them, you'll do fine, and they're good practice for tests. Just make sure you have a schedule for all the assignments she gives you.
This is the worst class I have taken at UGA as a Pre-Business major. Not only did she have Pretopic during lecture and after lecture quizzes/assignments. Multiple homework assignments due every week on MyITLab. It is so confusing to figure out what is due. I have never done more busywork for a class.
Dr. Aronson does care about students and how they do..... however it comes across as loads of unnecessary busy work. She is definitely a character in class, doing magic tricks, but that compliments the prelecture, lecture, and post lecture quizzes every class. The homework is confusing and repetitive. This is an intro Microsoft Excel course.
Dr. Aronson is one of the worst professors I have had at UGA. She is so poorly organized that I don't know how she has been able to ever hold a job. She gives us 3-4 assignments for each unit that are identical, as well as an unnecessary amount of quizzes. It's easy to miss her quizzes because she gives so many and they don't follow a schedule.
I never come on here but I felt like I should let everyone know how absolutely terrible Aronson is. By far the WORST teacher ever, too much homework and annoying stuff to do on MyITLab, where if you don't know what you're doing wrong, it won't tell you. Good luck. Figure it out on your own. Also if you have a Mac you're as good as dead to Aronson
It's ironic that the professor teaching me Excel gives the most disjointed, unorganized class I've ever taken. I spent more time figuring out what assignments to do than actually studying or doing assignments. You'll have assignments everyday, many of which are exactly the same, and you'll be surprised by random extra assignments all the time. Fun.
People complain like crazy but it isn't that bad the hw is easy bu there its a lot of it. you don't have an option its the only teacher
She provides the most unorganized syllabus and rude feedback. She did not even update course info for the current semester, so students have to keep asking questions to make sure the content is correct. I hope she at least makes the content corresponding to the current semester because we don't pay tuition to see old and outdated content.
She is the most intense professor I have ever had. First she barely likes to communicate with the students except through several TA's. It is supposedly an only Tues/Thurs class but fully expect to do several hours of work for this class alone 7 days a week. The layout of the course online is a huge information overload and hard to follow. NO FUN!!
Not extremely hard class, but the workload is extremely too much. I spend more time working in this one class than I do in my other three classes combined. Probably the most unorganized professor I have ever had in college and is strict with her deadlines. Have fun with the 50+ page syllabus because she's the only professor that teaches it atm.
first part of the class is soooo easy but once you get to part b the level of difficulty does not change, but she Is so unorganized and you are literally doing work for her every single day. I feel as if I do no work for any class and only for this class. terrible
extremely easy class and professor. everyone acts like its really hard and unorganized but it is not. lot of assignments but are very easy as well as the tests are not very difficult. somewhat time consuming but it is overall easy and janine is not bad at all idk why everyone doesnt like her
A lot of people dislike her but she isnt too bad, just make sure that you get into a rhythm of doing assignments (theres a lot, but they arent too hard). She talks very slow so I recommend doing her class online to speed up the lectures. Shes very nice and clear about what you have to do, its just a bit overwhelming if you arent organized.
I dont recall a time her or her TAs ever answered an email. She gives about 10-15 assignments per week for a class that is Tuesday/Thursday? Its busy work every day of the week and its the same repetitive stuff over and over. Her in lecture quizzes sometimes dont even correspond with examples from class. So much work for an awful professor.
This course had potential to be informative and interesting, but it wasn't. Aronson's lectures were extremely boring and dragged out. I took this course online and she posted all the lectures for the whole semester at once, so you could fast forward the dreadful lectures. I have never seen such a heavy workload. Way too many repetitive assignments.
She is caring and wants the best for her students, however she is very unorganized and makes it difficult to find assignments through a lot of unnecessary posts on ELC. The work she assigns is not too difficult, however she assigns a lot of (often repetitive) homework and its easy to forget to do an assignment due to the sheer amount of it.
This class requires so much work, in fact, youll find yourself doing assignments mostly everyday. Although its not hard, it can be frustrating because of the amount of workload and how unorganized she is with showing what is due. She is also very specific about what she wants.
Dr. Aaronson does not take past student critique into consideration. The course is painfully unorganized and she is unwelcoming to students needing help. If you have a question you will get a rude response on piazza about how you should have paid attention despite the overwhelming number of eLC posts. Students with anxiety will struggle a lot.
intially she is the most unorganized teacher and makes the class seem hard. Once you sort through everything and figure out what work is required each week it is not bad. classwork is fair. there are several quizzes for each section which are hard since they range from 3-4 questions. She does drop a few. each chapter has lab grader which are long
It's not that the concepts from this class are that difficult if you pay attention to the videos, but there is SO much work for this class. On average, you're looking at around 7 graded assignments due each week, and because of the grading system for excel, there is no partial credit. I got an A, but it wasn't easy.
Do NOT be scared by the reviews regarding the amount of work. All the assignments took me a reasonable amount of time to do. The course is very repetitive in nature, so it helps you learn the material, and the exams are very similar to the assignments. The work will prepare you for the exams, and everything is low stakes, so there is less pressure.
Prof. Janine gets a bad rep for having a lot of assignments and making it hard for you too pass. It's very true that you have to put in work for this class, but if you even do some assignments early, you'll be far ahead of the class. If you want an A in this class, you'll have to do some work early, but it'll make your life a lot easier.
Dr. Aronson does have concern for her students and doesnt maliciously make her course as difficult as it is. However, There are assignments due Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, which is NOT reasonable for a Tuesday Thursday class. Easily 15 hours/week. It is an unreadable courseload, and she is not receptive to student complaints.
This professor cares, but I don't think she knows how difficult it is to figure out her ELC page. Lots and lots of work, but it is manageable. On the positive side, if you do miss something because it is so confusing, she drops SO MANY of your lowest grades. Almost 2 in every category. (Like 10/15 grades). Plus a 1% point added to the class.
A lot of work for each lecture but the work is not very hard and as long as you watch the lectures each week you should do fine. The actual material is not difficult to understand it is just a lot of work.
Haven't even taken her yet, but she sent out 64 pages worth of syllabus documents and an 18 minute video to watch before taking a quiz on said material. All this and the class hasn't even started yet. ELC post are a mad house, its like navigating a maze of information a mile long. STAY AWAY if possible, or buckle up because its gonna get bumpy.
Professor Aronson will ask a lot of personal information and details about you. Be prepared to give out your social security number, home address, phone number, and information about your private life.
3 Quizzes due before start of class. For an Information Systems professor, the online component is shockingly disorganized and cluttered. Utterly confusing "syllabus" that is spread across multiple different documents. Projects due on non-class days (T/Th class but projects due on M/W/F). Makes an Excel class sound like nuclear engineering.
This course just needs an update. Ridiculously confusing to navigate what would be rather simple work and clearly this has been an issue for a while. This course is not a T/TH course, rather an every day of the week. The repetition does help you learn, but theres a point where its too much for simple tasks
Professor Aronson will post almost 400 documents to eLC and assumes that you will dedicate several hours each day to the course. You have to watch each 90 minute total video to complete the coursework on Excel and the quizzes. Please do not take this professor, oh, you have to, it's your only option!
I have seen the Titanic. I have seen the Hindenburg. I have seen 9/11. And still, Aronson's ELC is the biggest disaster I have ever seen. You have legitimately 13 assignments/quizzes before the second day of class. Oh, and good luck trying to find them in that mess of a homepage. She expects you to devote your life to Excel. It's not fun :(
Aronson isnt as bad as people make her out to be. Her lectures are fast-paced & theres a lot of homework, but as long as you pay attention & dont skim the reading, youll be fine. homework is manageable if you take a few hours a week to get it done. its helpful to have a basic understanding of Excel prior to the class but not required
This class is very disorganized and the prof does not have a lot of tolerance for confused students. There are multiple assignments every day and several syllabuses to read through before the class even begins. The class is T/TH but prepare to watch hour-long lectures every day that come with several assignments to do. Would be better if organized.
This course is NOT a Tuesday/Thursday course as advertised. Video lectures are required to complete spreadsheets along with two quizzes on days class is not meeting (Mondays and Wednesday). In addition to the course load from Monday through Thursday, you have MORE work to complete on MyItLab. Be prepared to sell your soul to EXCEL for this course.
I am about to be a junior at UGA and out of every single class I've ever taken, this was by far the worst. This class was the equivalent to having a paper cut on both of your eyes and then trying to cure it with lemon juice... yeah it's that awful. You have about 5 assignments EVERY DAY and lectures even on days that aren't class days. Its insanity
Do not take this class if you are mentally ill. Way too much work and way too confusing.
The class is confusing but also is very much manageable if you pay attention and do the work. This is the only teacher for this class so dont take too much stock in the reviews and youll do fine!
Over complicates everything. There is work five days a week. It is difficult to maintain organization in this class because there are so many papers/pdfs.
DO NOT take her she is terrible. so unorganized and thinks that excel is your whole life. You have a lecture everyday so it does not matter what days you sign up for. Be ready to spend 4 hours on this class everyday.
Professor Aronson does not care about your academics or your mental health. The class, which could be taught in two weeks or less, is redundant and work-heavy, and the professor does not orient her schedule to follow that which you signed up for. This is a seven day a week class. The content is laughably easy, yet horribly managed and organized.
Dr. Aronson's ELC is beyond confusing and not well organized. She also makes this class a 5+ day a week course with recorded lectures on non-lecture days. Also, the class content is very very easy, but the work is extremely repetitive. I would try your best to not have her as a prof.
The content really is not that difficult, but Aronson assigns so much work that it's insanely frustrating to keep up with. It's obvious that tons of students have the same problem, and she still hasn't done anything to change the structure. I shouldn't be spending 12+ hours a week on a T/TR class when I have 4 other classes and a full time job.
If you have to take this class as a requirement, say goodbye to any free time you have. The amount of homework is ABSURD. You have lectures & work every day of the week, even though it's a T/TR class. I'm literally certified in excel BY Microsoft, I know the work isn't hard, it's just WAY too much (it's literally doing the same thing over and over)
Dr. Aronson's course is confusing for the first week or so, but once you get the hang of things, the course is very straightforward. There are a lot of assignments but they're super easy. I literally have no idea why people complain about her. She's super understanding and cares about your grade, and will respond if you have questions.
these reviews are accurate but a lil harsh. her elc is a LOT but once you get the hang of it its navigable. the workload was incredibly large and repetitive, but she responded to feedback and made over half of it extra credit! her class isnt the most interesting and half the stuff she says takes 5x longer than it needs to. not enjoyable but fine
you dont have an option on whether to take this prof if youre a business major but dont be scared by these reviews. her ELC page was difficult to navigate at first but its manageable. theres a lot of work bc she wants to drill things into your memory but if you spend time working on it, youll be fine. also she just made a ton of work for EC.
There are a lot of posts on here talking about how difficult this course is and that the work is too much but the truth is if you set aside about an hour and a half for the day before the lecture you can easily finish all of your work and the assignments are extremely easy and really just to test if you have been paying attention. 10/10 would take.
If the content itself wasn't as easy as it is she would not have a job. Hella HW.
Lots of assignments, but they're really short. I put the videos on 2x speed and followed along to do the work. Half of the work is EC now. The work is repetitive, but I found that helpful when learning excel. Not the most engaging prof, except on the days she does magic. Knowing excel is useful, so by transitive property, this class is useful.
For a class about an organizational software, her class is the most unorganized, chaotic thing ever. Takes longer to find assignments than to do them. Way too much work for a required class. Very annoying to have to deal with such easy work many times a week.
Not going to lie, came on here at the beginning of the semester to trash Dr. Aronson but she's grown on me. The class has a lot of HW which I think actually prepares you well for the test. Kind of like getting hit in the head with a hammer, if you do it enough times eventually something will happen. Not as bad as people make her out to be.
Aaronson gets such a bad wrap but she is actually so great. Yes, there is a good amount of work, but it is completely manageable. Every assignment actually helps you learn the material and helps you do well on the test. This class is actually one that will help you with your whole college and professional career.
want a life? DO NOT TAKE HER!!! Up to 4+ assignments due EVERDAY even on days, you don't have class. I am so serious, save yourself because I couldn't save myself. sure, tests are easy but at what cost? all the quizzes and homework are not what she teaches, but don't worry!! she can do magic!!! oh! don't forget to pay for myitlab that is a joke!!!
As Thanos once said in the movie Avengers Infinity War, "Perfectly balanced, as all things should be," this class however was the complete opposite of balanced. I do not understand why we need to have multiple assignments due every single day to learn microsoft excel. This class is very easy, however you spend 5-10 hours of useless busy work.
Aronson gets a negative review because people don't want to try. There is SO much extra credit and she drops so many assignments. There is a lot of stuff due but its the same pattern every week and easy to figure out. The assignments are meant to help you and they do, they're easy and so are the tests. Go to class, do the work, easy A.
The class is very disorganized. I learned a lot but it feels like you're trying not to drown in work. Luckily she made the pre-lecture assignments extra credit mid-way through but if she didn't do that the class would be unbearable. She is a cool teacher though. Ask her to show you a magic trick you will not be disappointed.
Dr. Aronso may be very disorganized to the point where you want to gouge your eyes out. BUT!!!! she is very nice and does care about her students. I learned so much about excel in this class. It is a good choice and for most business majors at UGA it isn't a choice, you have to take this class. Put the work in and get the A.
People are dramatic. There was a lot of homework at first (1 or 2 hour assignments due every weekday), but she ended up making most of it extra credit because of all the complaints. She's actually very caring and knowledgeable and will help you as long as the same question isn't asked multiple times. She's funny too. Easy A if you put in the work.
Dr. Aronson was super disorganized and had what was easily the absolute worst ELC page I've ever seen. If I were to hide a crime, I'd do it on her page. Other than that though, Dr. Aronson did really care about her students and was genuinely a very interesting person. Her class was also beyond easy.
Extremely disorganized, and the amount of busy work is a pain to do weekly. That being said, Aronson knows what she's doing, and she is very patient and understanding with her students and offers a lot of dropped assignments. If you're expecting a work-heavy schedule from other classes, you're gonna have a rough time with this class.
Awful teacher.
Janine is one of the most caring and thoughtful professors I experienced at UGA. She really cares about her students and although the actual content of the class can be challenging and monotonous, she breaks it up with fun pictures and magic tricks. She's very patient and kind and always willing to provide extra support.
