Prof. Fujioka is a great teacher because she loves the subject she teaches. You can an A in this class if you show up and do the work! All of the movies are super good, plus fun discussions afterwards. I recommend the class. She is nice!!!
cool teacher, fun class. participate in class discussions and you will pass
Excellent teacher!
She has a well thought out plan for the class but I didn't like the material. As a Chinese American, I dropped the class because I wanted an class that mainly focus on Chinese American. She mainly focus on Japanese Americans. If you are seeking that kind of class, do not add her.
As long as you do all the work and put some effort into it, you'll get an A.
great teacher! easy class!
She is the worst teacher ever.Treats not fair to students, sturbborn, big ego, and suspects from no reason. everytime she has trouble with students, she says I've been teaching 16years!! that's her favorite phrase. no matter how long have been teaching, what matter is good teacher or not.
I took her for Asians and Asian-Americans through Films last spring semester, and thought the class was pretty easy. We did a group powerpoint presentation, two test (one was a take-home) and a blog.
Excellent course, mainly focused on indie films from Asia and about Asian Americans. I recommend the prof b/c she makes the class really interesting. Good discussion topics, too.
In the book "Strangers from a Different Shore" by author Ronald Takaki in page 370-371 it said many Chinese shopkeepers are afraid to be mistaken as Japanese by putting signs but Professor Fujioka said that the Chinese shopkeepers put signs because they hated the Japanese in America. Fujioka is not telling the whole truth about history in class.

She is a very annoying teacher. I would not take her in future clases. She humiliated me on the powerpoint presentation last year. Mean person. She accuses some studentss to be bigot but it is her that brought up the topic about race.
This is a good class, w/ lots of student discussion and information. Prof is really nice!
She is nice to black and white students cause she is afraid of them. She should be nice and fair to all students.
Dude, those are some weird comments. I am in the same class and Prof is super good! She's fair, great discussions and films are informative. Your crazy.
She was so so boring, all we did is sit in class and watch movies. 2 midterms and 1 final(optional) if you pass the 1st midterm with a b. there is also a presentation, she gives everyone a B on the presentation so dont even try. Easy A class.
Professor Fujioka is always cheerful, almost like a stereotypical asian when her whole class is about breaking stereotypes. Does not like to be asked why we are doing an assignment when it has nothing to do with the class. Talk about how about white have kept asians down and you will pass the class. Class is a joke, I won't take another with her.
If you need an easy and relaxed class, take her class.I were with her only two months, cause she had surgery. All classes didnt last longer than 1 hour but the presentation. Just go to class, gossip, and go home. She's cheerful. You might not worry about getting A in this class.
She is very easy, yet it could be hard for ESL students. So be aware, many ESL students think she is easy and relax on her class and end up getting C or lower. But overall, she is nice and pretty easy. End up getting an A at the end.
Great professor! Be sure to go to class and sign in for attendance or e-mail her. Films are mostly indies from Asia with subtitles. There is a powerpoint project and 2 miderm exams. One midterm is open book but kinda hard. I got an A- grade.
I had a good semester w/ Dr. Fujioka. Her lectures are pretty interesting, and all of the films are good. The exams are in class and one take home. I would take a class with her again. Cool website!
Very approachable instructor who knows her stuff. She takes time to help me w/ research paper, and invited class for Chinese food at the end of the semester. Register early because classes are always full.
Had a good semester with Fujioka. Syllabus is online and she gives sample exam questions for the midterms. The films are pretty good, especially the Korean and Vietnamese films. I liked the class a lot.
This is a cool class held in the tech center. Hard to find but you can use the computer for Fujioka's assignments. I thought her film clas was one of the best at Laney. I also took the history class which had alot of reading. You can download lecture notes. She's really nice and smart!
Super easy A, but you will learn nothing. She keeps canceling class a lot. If you want to pay your money for an A and learn nothing, take her
Enjoyed doing the AAAS Faire project this semester. Films are from around Asia and Pacific. Excellent class and informative professor!!
I liked the Asian/Asian American Faire very much because I could learn different faucets of the Asian American culture and meet lots of new friends. Especially the games were so funny. It think it's successful. Professor Fujioka class is awesome!
while I was in university in wv we used to have multi culture day but that wasnt fun like this fair we just have song and dance. this was great fair i have ever been in college level...in this fair we can learn different aspect of asian life....hope you all enjoyed it...see you next year
What I loved about the class and the faire was the coming together of Asian American students and other students of American culture, sharing, caring and bringing forth unity. The delightful experience gave me a greater awareness and appreciation of the Asian culture, studies, films, food and family lie.
yes, the professor helped me a lot to know abut asian and american history in a vivid way....I can have fun during the study. I love this experience in film class...
Assignments are relatively easy. There is a lot of group work. 2 or 3 group projects. Just watch movies and discuss. You have to be on time or she locks the door. She calls this class an "easy A class." The hardest part is putting together a competent group where everyone does some of the work.
Professor Fujioka is a super, kind teacher, and I like her a lot. We completed a library project called "What Mask Are You Wearing?" and I got an A grade. The films are interesting, and lots of group discussion. She explains the films very well. I recommend the class :)
Awesome class. Awesome teacher. Awesome films. Awesome projects. Awesome grade. Awesome A :-) You better take this class. And go ahead with easy A.
In the ASAME 30 class (and the projects), students not only can express their ideas, thoughts and feelings, but also can express their art and creativity. Definitely I recommend Professor Fujioka and her Asian classes for future students in AAAA! :)
This is a fun class. I recommend Prof Fujioka. She is patient, kind, very smart. She grades fair. The projects are super awesome!!! ;)
I like this class a lot. Professor Fujioka is awesome! We watched many great films by Akira Kurosawa, Mira Nair, Wayne Wang, Zhang Yimou and others. She covers a variety of Asia groups and topics. Take this class you will love it!
Awesome teacher. Ms. Fujioka is a great instructor. I took all of her classes.
I am taking Asian film this semester. Prof fujioka is a fun and interesting professor. We see all kinds of films and work on projects. I recommend the class ; )
take this class ;) I recommend it prof fujioka is super nice, knowledgeable, and fun we did mask project and fair got an A
I felt she lacked sensitivity and was condescending towards students. Maybe she changed over the years, I don't know. I remember at the start of the semester she announced that her class was an easy A. I soon realized that meant she had the liberty to do and behave as she pleased, with no regards to her students. She needs to take a class on ethics
Prof Fujioka is wonderful professor. Im voting her teacher of the year!
i really like this teacher bc the films are interesting :)
She's fun teacher and really helps me. I recommend the class. we get to do projects togethr
im taking asame49 which is asian american community organizing it's been a really good semester with Professor Janine Fujioka we did a library display--very popular she is a great teacher!
This is class has a lot of students and popular. It's good to learn about Asian Americans and our history. Janine makes the history come alive. Projects are fun, but get in a good group. Gonna take the film class next semester.
Great professor!!! :)
I didn't like Prof. Fujioka at all. She was condescending, spoke to us like we were children, and loved putting people on blast. Her instructions are confusing and she's not organized verbally. But overall, the class is do-able and enjoyable. Class ended a month ago and she still didn't submit grades. Very concerned about that.
got A grade in this class!
I like the asian film class with professor fujioka. She explains the films and there's alot of discussion about the projects. the films are good.
this is a good class atmosphere. i like prof fujika who is really knowledgable. fun film project

this class is a fun course and the professor is well prepared. the group projects take some time, but you can get a good grade in this class
I took all of Janine Fujioka's classes in Asian American Studies and the class I liked the most was the film course. The films are from different parts of Asia which is nice. The Cambodian film was expecially good. Take this class!
This is the best class I have taken at Laney College. Professor Fujioka knows her stuff! Projects are fun, including the film media clip. I recomment this class!!!!!
I really, really, really enjoyed Fujikoa's asian film class. Films are kinda old, but good, classic. Funny sense of humor and the semester zoomed by quickly. I recommend her asain classes
Had Prof Fujioka last semester and was a blast! Class was interesting. Field trips to Ai Wei Wei exhibit on Alcatraz and angel island. Group projects are ok
My semester at laney college turned out to be very hectic with job, 3 yr old daughtr plus 12 units. Going to Ms. Fujioka's class was like a breath of fresh air because I enjoyed the class so much. Great films and she explains them well. The group projects were fun. We did the asian cultural fair togethr. I highly recommend this class.
I loved this class with Professor Fujioka. She really knows her stuff! The films were engaging, lively and interesting. We had lots of discussion, too. I highly recommend this class. Akira Kurosawa is my favorite!!!

excellent class with a good professor! i attended all the lectures, too
Gr8 professor! She understands Laney students. Some of the work kinda hard, but hang in and go to class. You get A grade.

I learned so much about asian cultures through the films we watched. The class is well organized. Professor is outstanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a class worth taking at Laney. Fujioka smart lady. Film project is fun.
The films are mostly Asian and Asian American, kinda old, but interesting, to the point and kept my attention. Classes huge, widely popular. I recommend the prof. she's pretty good ;))
i had a great time in this class! it was a blast! our team projects were fun including the PowerPoint project and movie making. the only problems is the cell phone policy and attendance. she counts for attendance.
I had an awful time in this class and the instructor was very difficult to get hold of and very unsympathetic. I had to drop the class.
This is one of the best classes @laney. Prof Fujioka has a lot of information and good project. Field trips are a blast!
best classes @laney. Prof Fujioka has a lot of information and good project. Field trips are a blast!
the film projects are a lot of fun. I got an A+ grade today!
This class is really good and I love the professor! We went to Angel Island on a field trip and also to San Francisco Art Museum. The group potluck was so successful. She so organized. Mrs. Fujioka is the BEST instructor at Laney.
The Angel Island field trip was a blast! It's my first time there. The ferry ride, being on the water, sharing with new friends, hiking----all good! I enjoyed the group projects and media project. Professor is gr8
Losers at Laney hate Jeanine because they envy how awesome amazing sensational she is. Jealous losers stay away from Jeanine!
I RECOMMEND THIS AWESOME CLASS! EASY BUT DO GROUP WORK. SO GET IN A GOOD GROUP
had a successful semester in Fujikoa's film class. this was my best class at laney. very popular teacher!
OMG!!! What a super teacher and fun class. Films were awesome and got A she is most popular and really smart lady. Nice lady, too.
Had a fun semester with the Professor Fujioka because of field trips to SF Art Museum and to the Angel Island. Potluck were so good I recommend this class over the other ones. We learnt so much
This teacher is one of thebest at laney college. So many students take the classes. Film media projects are delightful and we got A+ grade so easy A class. We worked hard on the clip
Everyone absolutely loves jeanine because she's super special and totally awesome. Look at all these amazing reviews posted simultaneously and repeatedly! That's the kind of love and devotion this teacher inspires in her students who she treats wonderfully and so respectfully. It's awesome that we have a site like this to properly worship her.
Such an easy A as long as you show up & don't use your phone. Not much hw, there's only a few small assignments & 2 projects: Power Point presentation & film project. For both if you get a B or higher, you don't have to take the midterm/final. All semester, we either watched films & had a small discussion on it, or worked on the projects.
Professor Fujioka is the best teacher in my heart. She is fun and hugely popular. Her class is interesting. All the films are powerful. And, don't use your cellphone in class.
Taking Professor Fujioka now in Asame Asian film class. It is so fun! I love her teaching style. Very down to earth and friendly. Big class with maybe 60 students? don't go on your cellphone.
This is a great class with fun projects and field trips. This professor is real good, helpful and we all love her!!!!!
She is awesome professor!! Kind, helpful. Very smart. Pretty lady, too.
She is challenging, provoking, at times funny. Janine Fujioka's subtlety and has kind demeanor. Don't be fooled by easy A class -- she's brilliant, smart and capable. Interesting and engaging lectures! Would highly recommend her Asian Film class.
My friends and I are in this fun class together. The teacher is so good. Lucky to be at Laney College. We all love her!
Her classes are not only engaging and enlightening, but fun. And easy to earn A's because there are lots of opportuntities to do better. She is respected, warm personality and great teacher.
Best instructor that I have had a Laney. She is a very approachable teacher always there for students. Extremely knowledgeable and passionate about Asian American history. Awesome and interesting classes with discussion in small groups. Her good spirit and kind outlook will inspire you to do something good in the world. She rocks!!!!!
Jeanie Fujokoa is a fantastic professor who makes you think about the issues and inspires you to live a life with some deep meaning. She is helpful and extrememly kind to all students and encourages you to try out some new ways to look at the world. Just an incredible person. She is great! Seriously I'd take the class.
Incredible teacher. Incredible person. She knows her material inside and out, and Mrs. Fujioka is so passionate about Asian American issues! She treats the students with respect, cares about your educational plans/future and is so willing to assist and help out. Go on the field trips. As somebody else said, she rocks!
Fujioka is the BEST teacher ever! She's interesting to hear. Her class is easy to pass, but at the same time, I can definitely say that she taught me quite a lot about the films themes. We get to make a movie on imovies and everyone participates. The lectures are laid back and easy to understand. The field trips are on Fridays. Highly recommend
Take this class! Best professor at Laney. Very compelling, competent, friendly, approachable and great lecturer. Enjoyed all the films and went on three field trips to local Asian American historical sites. Pretty lady ;)
This class was really good in terms of interaction with other students and learning about many different Asian films. I got to know more about certain films I had no idea of before and has brought me to want to re-watch them all. I loved the assignments we had to do. The short film was my favorite one. I love Prof. Fujioka! Everyone does :))
Nothing too much to add to existing comments, but they are all still relevant as of 2018. I enjoyed a lot by attending usual film watching classes, two group works and two extra credit excursions. Special notes: Prof. Fujioka cares about her students. She helped brushing up my essay for transferring to a four-year outside class. Fantastic person.
This class is the best of the best! Prof. Fujioka is a very knowledgeable and inspiring teacher. Her classes are always huge. Students will do Interesting hands-on group projects - one powerpoint and a mini film, etc. No exams. I've learned a lot from her significant lectures and films. Very respectful and friendly environment. Highly recommended!!
I love this class! We did several group projects with my friends and got an A grade. Professor Fujioka helps out a lot and meets your team on the projects so we could learn many things. I love the movie project the best.
Fujioka is a nice instructor for this class. The course isn't difficult if you keep attending the class. She has lots of patience for answering questions. The only tough thing for this class is group work. She encourages students to work together. So, the lazy person in the group would hold you back.
This class doesn't have much homework to do. There are 3 projects including 2 group projects. Attendance is mandatory. She accepts slightly late projects to help you get higher grades. Fujioka is the best prof. I've ever met in Laney.
I so much enjoyed taking classes with Professor Fujioka. There are two group projects: a cultural presentation and a mini-film. Also, there are two field trips: Angel Island and SF MOMA. This class is so inspiring and so much fun! Excellent lectures and classwork have helped me boost my Asian American identity! Highly recommended!
Professor Fujioka is a real gem at Laney! She is so knowledgeable and made the history class so exciting and easy to follow! She cares about all her students! The courses she teaches are so popular that you had better enroll once it is published online! We did an ema project in the Fab Lab, a culture presentation, a mini-film, visited SFO MOMA,etc.
It is an independent study project related to community organizing at Laney and throughout Peralta Colleges. Advocate for Asian Americans and local Oakland Chinatown. About 300 students came to library exhibitions. This course gave me the hands-on experience to organize an event, communicate with people, design and curate the display. Love it !!
Fujioka is a veteran community college instructor with over 30 years of teaching experience in Oakland. Classes are structured to be relevant to race relations today. I like lectures, projects, discussions & films. Field trips to San Francisco include Angel Island, SFMOMA, Asian Art Museum. She arranges free tickets, docent lead tours & lectures!!!
Got back in touch with Professor Fujioka who responded quickely for an academic reference for my UC transfer requirements. I remember her Asian film class as the best one I took at Laney College! She's a super instructor who cares about students. I am glad to keep in touch with her over the years.
A great class with Professor Fujioka! Engaging lectures, interesting films, and fun field trips. The coursework is manageable, and Unstuck AI was a helpful study tool. Recommended for anyone interested in Asian American studies.
