She's quite interesting but sometimes rambles. Not extremely hard unless you put NO effort into the class. With THREE essays (and about 2 weeks to finish each of them) and a research paper, you really can't go wrong unless you don't try.

Very lienient teacher, very nice and easy grader, never stresses out or gets mad at you. Very flexible about due dates. Only fault is that she sometimes keeps you a few minutes after class almost like she forgets what time class gets out. But overall I recommend taking her.

Who better to teach Enlish than a chick from the country where the Language was created?? The chick ROCKED and was easily the BEST teacher for Enlgish I ever had! A busy lady who understands what it means to be busy. Doesnt care when, just get it in and no mark-off. kind of slow returning, though.

super easy class. shes very flexible and understanding. sooo sweet. watched a lot of not so interesting videos. the book is interesting if you actually read it. very helpful in informing you about the field of journalism. overall a very lax and easy class.

Dr. G is the****! Having known her for two years, she is one of the most charismatic, fascinating, worldly, and not to mention well-read professors at WVC. She's lived/worked in every continent (minus Australia), and always has interesting stories to tell. Really, the woman is a walking lexicon. Take her and you'll thank me. ;-)

Considering I half-assed the work and got a B, I'm either a genius or the class is really easy. I don't think it's the former, so take it if you're looking for the easy A. The only reason why I got a B is because I don't believe in doing enhancements.

Competent professor, with much insight, and intelligence.

Dr. G was the best teacher you could hope for in a class about Shakespeare. She let everybody talk a lot, gave help on the essays, and obviously cares about the subject. Totally recommend her!

Dr. G is and extremely intelligent and insightful woman. She welcomes class discussions but is an amazing lecturer. Her breadth of knowledge is vast; she can discuss anything from religion to literature to philosophy. She makes herself available to students during her office hours and is extremely helpful and understanding. Class was too easy!

Janine is a great teacher. She's got to be the smartest teacher, overall, I've ever had. Very familiar in many subjects (not just her own). I got an A and never bought the book. She's old school; more concerned with whether or not you learn something than how her class is percieved by her higher-ups. A true student's teacher. Take her class.

Pretty easy for an english class. Unlike the other Engl1b classes I heard of, this class doesn't require you to write a poem! We have pretty minimal work in that class. Teacher is alright, she is pretty easy going.

Easy to pass. Take home exams and two essays (you could pick your own topics). The most helpful teacher I have ever met with extremely broad knowledge.

Ms. G. is the best! Very helpful, loves to teach. Loves people. Very intelligent. The lady is extremely busy and does a wonderful job of inspiring her students! I hope to take Ms. G's classes again :)

Overall, the class was okay, but a lot of the text we read was a bit dry. Also, barely anyone spoke up in the class for discussions, which wasted class time & made Janine frustrated. But that aside, Janine is a great professor who's extremely knowledgeable. Recommended for folks who are English majors, or who are interested in Brit lit.

If you are an English major, she is a must. Take the time to meet with her in her office and pick her brain. She is a wealth of information, and well also give you advice for your educational path. I have the utmost respect for her.

I had Mrs. G for Shakespeare, and since I'm picky about my Bard, I was very happy to see her do him justice. PLEASE speak up in class otherwise only talkative people (like me) and Mrs. G will hold it up. Take-home exams and paper flexibility are awesome. She'll teach you a lot if you're open. Get to know her! She rocks so much. :D

Amazing, wonderful, kind woman. I have complete respect for her, and absolutely NOTHING negative to say about her. She's one of the most intelligent women I have ever met, and one of the best instructors I have ever had. Her main goal is that YOU learn, and she'll do what it takes to make sure you do.

I LOVE MRS. G! I intend to major in English and have to say she is absolutely brilliant in her subject. She's very intelligent and has a great sense of humor. She was very helpful for me on our last essay and I really can't say enough praise about her. I definitely look forward to taking future classes with her.

This is my first time taking a class from Dr. G. I enrolled in her Eng5B (english Lit 2) class, and was so blown away by her on the first day that I stayed for the class she was teaching immediately following English 48 (Shakespeare), and added that to my schedule too. Tends to call on her favorites: outgoing kids she knows already, so speak up.

She is a great teacher. Its all discussion in class and she encourages everyone to speak their mind, but doesn't force any one too. There are a few papers to do, but she lets you revise it for a better grade if you want. She's so personable, energetic, and intelligent that there is no way yo could say anything negative about her!

Love this teacher! Although attendance isnt mandatory, she is a great teacher and makes you WANT to go. She knows a ton about everything, and always keep class interesting. 3 papers, attendance, and a final were pretty much all that was graded

She is a great teacher, very fun, and has lots of knowledge. But unless you have a talkative class you won't learn anything. Her teaching style relies on class participation, so it can be a dull class if no one talks. But very nice, so most get an A.

Great class, great teacher. In class we read and discuss literature. Sometimes she assigned us things to read on off-class days, but we always went over it in class anyway. As long as you turn in the 3 papers and do well, you'll be fine. The grade is just based on the papers. And you only have to do 3! No midterm, easy final (you could have notes!)

Easy teacher to pass, but very lazy as well (she procrastinate on grading student's essay a lot...) You don't really do much in the class but listen to her lectures and do practice problems for essays, sometimes group reviews but very little. and about that lazy part... I completed the requirements for the Engl 1A lab and received a NP... -______-"

Very helpful teacher and passionate for English. Minimal homework, just read 4 page short stories here and there. Four essays during the semester with 2+ weeks to finish each. Very easy class but that's because of how helpful she is. Wants to see you succeed. Super nice.

She is great. Eng is my second language and I had to try much harder than Eng speaking students, but with her help I did great and got an A. Be active and participate, she will give you credit for that. I highly recommend her.

She is a GREAT teacher! There was only 3 essays. The midterm was really easy. She puts the prompt on ANGEL before the midterm, & you can use it for the actual midterm. Easy A, you can re-do essay's, she's very helpful, nice, and funny. TAKE HER!

Dr. Gerzanics is easily my favorite instructor to this point. She provides great reading, clear evaluations of your work, and she goes above and beyond to assist you with your writing. Her style is casual.

Dr. Gerzanics is the best teacher I have ever had in my school career. She is passionate and willing to work with a student to get the best out of that student, she is forgiving and patient and you can tell she really really cares about her subject and her students. Gerzanics is great. Super enthusiastic and knowledgeable and a great writing coach! I would say the only downside to her class was that she was very disorganized which caused the end of the semester to be crammed and stressful with most of the papers and points coming in the last few weeks 'cause of bad planning. I definitely recommend her!

She is a super easy teacher. Lets you revise any essay paper. Does not use turnitin.com. I got a C on one paper, rewrote one paragraph, and she changed the grade to an A. DO NOT buy the recommended books. All short stories from book are also online and only used the grammar book once. She is super easy as long as your essays are semi decent.

Gerzanics is quite possibly the best instructor on the West Valley campus, because she teaches with the understanding that heart, passion, and interest define a well-written paper more than conforming to an instructor's perspective or values. Expect to get an A if you show up to class and represent yourself in papers and assignments.

Gerzanics is amazing! She is very enthusiastic about Literature. She is more interested about the content in your essays rather than the structure. You get to watch a couple films which is always a nice break from lectures. She loves participation and encourages critical thinking.

If you struggle with English or it's just not your favorite subject take her! Thank me later.

She lets you redo your paper as many times as needed. She's always willing to help you. Cool and laid-back teacher. Take her if you're struggling with English.

Ms. Gerzanic was great. I really hate writing. I started the course with the fear that I won't pass the class, and I needed it to transfer. But I passed a class with a B, which is pretty darn awesome. I would definitely recommend her.

best teacher ever! She is really laid back and it is true you won't do much in class but for the people that actually want to learn she will be there for you. Her class is full of interesting lectures and videos. Easy A!!

Professor Gerzanics has great energy and is easy to listen to because of her passion for the material. She is always willing to help and is the sweetest professor I've ever had. However, her class seemed to be a bit disorganized and often went off schedule. If you want to listen and read some great poetry, take this class.

I just love Gerzanics. She is super responsive and so in-depth. I'd email her two sentences about a problem I was having in an essay, and she'd email back 3 articles and two paragraphs of her own take. She knows her stuff and is very understanding. Really good choice of reading material, and flexible in terms of grades or attendance.

The lectures are stimulating, inspirational and the topics for writing are thoroughly clear.

She taught me how to write a good, interesting title. She also cared about your improvement in class so she allowed re-writes for essays. When I was sick for 2 weeks, she allowed me to turn in an essay 5 days later. Funny and nice professor! I'm taking ENG 1B with her next semester! She makes class really interesting and allows you to eat in class.

She's absolutely brilliant! Definitely take ENG 1B with her. I took her in the spring semester of 2016. She lets you redue the papers in order to get a better grade. Class is really laid back. Do not buy the books, you won't need them at all! Especially the small textbook. All the stories can be found online. No homework!!

She does give good feedback but takes a while to get essays back. She's very caring and funny.

Janine is overall a good teacher. Sometimes it seems like she doesn't have a lesson plan for the day, which can make it hard to stay on track. She gets sidetracked easily and shows the class a lot of videos. She makes English Lit. an interesting class and allows you to interact with your peers.

Class grade is determined by 3 essays. The journals were homework but aren't part of your grade. There are 3 essays so make sure they're all As. DO NOT GET THE TEXTBOOK. We used it like once in class and that is it. It is not necessary for the class. Attendance is not mandatory. Come to class on essay days. She definitely knows her English though.

This was a great class, but I definitely daydreamed in class from time to time. She's very passionate about English. She's pretty lenient on due dates and essays can be rewritten for a better grade. Her feedback on essays are very helpful and helped me improve my writing. She did take attendance from time to time and kept track of participation.

If there was a negative difficulty rating on here, I would give her one. Do not buy the textbook, and showing up to class is optional. You can turn in everything, (literally everything) on the last day of the semester. Many people did. She knows her English really well.

I took 1A and 1B with her. Absolutely love her! Interesting class, fun teacher and cool material. Thought I wasn't good at writing papers but I got an A. Going to class is 15% of your grade!! You get to watch movies for a whole month and write a paper on it. Definitely going to take her again if I get the chance.

She is hands down the best professor. I had an easy teacher for English 1A and when I took her class for 1B, it was the most fun experience. We watch movies, listen to her amazing lectures, everything. She allows you to redo essays for an A. I can't say enough. She is really good as professor and a person. I highly recommend her 100%.

I've had Gernzanics for English 1A. She is a fun teacher. She is not a hard grader. She a very fair grader. If you write your papers with the right criteria, you will more than like pass the class with an A. She a good teacher to take for a class that is General Ed.

Normally, I dislike English, but I had lots of fun in Gerzanics' class. She cares about each student and is so understanding. She's always willing to help. Even just sitting in class taught me so much about critical thinking and analyzing literature and any kind of text. She cares about improvement, so make effort to learn in her class. Take her!!

She made me love going to English class. She really helps you understand the stories and poems you read. She really helps you look at things a different way. She really makes you think about stuff. I really enjoyed this class.

Dr. G is such a sweet and caring professor! She makes writing a whole lot less stressful with her easy grading. You even get to rewrite all your essays for a higher grade. Just do all the essays and get good grades on them to get an A. She's easily accessible outside of class if you need any help with anything whether it be English related or not.

I love her! She is nice, funny, very passionate about English. Honestly, I looked forward to her class. She is a really easy grader. You can make up every essay for a better grade. On top of that, you spend a solid month just watching movies! If you need help with the essays, you can easily find her outside of campus. Great teacher!

SHE IS THE BEST!! I literally loved taking Janine so much. She is super caring and really wants you to understand the material. The class itself isn't easy and yes there is a lot of reading and writing. However, compared to other English professors, Dr. Gerzanics is very lenient in terms of deadlines and grading. She allows you to rewrite your papers as many times as you need to improve your grade. As long as you do all the work and put in the effort, you will succeed.

I loved this class. She really wants her students to strive to be the best they can. I used to be horrible at analysis, and after taking this class, I feel as if my critical analysis skills are at a much higher level. She always there for advice on papers, homework, or life! She also lets you rewrite a paper as many times as you want!

I love her class so much. She is one of the few teachers that would rather have you do one essay really really well than doing 5 essays at an okay level. She is super accessible after class and at any time. You can pretty easily do nothing and get an A, because she would rather you improve than worry about grades. Work with her and you will benefit

Gerzanics is extremely helpful and very open about different ideas. She adjusts to how what the class needs and is very helpful during office hours. Going in during office hours is extremely helpful as she can work with you one on one and can get a lot more done than in class.

Gerzanics is one of the best professors I've ever had! She's hilarious, intelligent and witty. Her lectures can be a bit unorganized but they are always a lot of fun! She's an easy A & usually accepts late work if you have a valid reason for it. Also, her office is AMAZING. She has a TARDIS closet. She's just a really interesting person overall.

Ms. Gerzanics is one of the most wonderful professors I've ever met. She was very kind and understanding when I went through some rough things this semester and let me turn in all my missing assignments at the end of the semester with no penalties. Her class was very fun and engaging and taught me what I needed to know! Definitely a great class!

Mrs. Gerzanics is definitely a solid choice for a professor. She clearly knows what shes talking about in terms of content and cares a lot about your success, both academically and personally. But, I dont think she paid as much attention to my class compared to her other classes, which put a strain on my enjoyment of the course as a whole.

Prof. Gerzanics made me a critical thinker. I now know how to really read a book. Before, I would read without thinking. She really inspired me and as a result, I wrote a poem that everybody liked. She respects all students and she is a very good listener. She wants you to learn and be successful. I wish her the best of luck.

Janine is honestly one of the most caring teachers at West Valley. If you have questions she'll answer and she'll walk you through whatever you need help with. I really improved on my writing skills due to her feedback and rewrite opportunities as long as you put in the effort and take advantage you'll easily get an A. Definitely recommended!

Professor Gerzanics is so sweet, she cares about her students and their writing skills. She allows us to revise our essays to our desired grade. Very nice and understanding professor. If you ever need to contact her for help she will answer quickly. She does give out a lot of assignments and if you like to procrastinate this class is not for you. She is a very easy grader and does let you revise essays.

Dr. G is an amazing teacher. A lot of reading but she always checks with the class first to make sure it'll be manageable. She's super easy to reach any time of day, and if you miss class for any reason she'll understand. However, don't expect to understand the reading if you miss class. Lots of extra credit. Highly, highly recommend!

Janine Gerzanics is hands down the greatest professor I had ever taken at my time at West Valley and other colleges. She taught an English class with so much vigor and passion it left you no choice but to fall in love with the subject. She is extremely lenient and curates each class based on her students. TAKE HER CLASS YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT

She's an amazing professor who is very kind, sweet and cares about her students. The class mostly involves some lecture, group discussions, and working on exercises to prepare for the three papers due throughout the semester. Only downside about the class is no due dates are provided but I highly recommend Ms. Gerzanics.

Took Dr. Gerzanics for Engl 1A (Spring 2021 online) and Engl 1B (Fall 2021 in person). Professor is better in person. Easy class, but you learn a lot. Professor is available during office hours and via phone and text. Willing to help you with things class and not class related. Helps former students too. Would love to take other classes with her.

Her class itself is quite easy, your experience is dictated by your willingness to discuss the content, the more talkative the class the more interesting she will make it. I had family issues during semester and was applying to transfer 1 year after highschool, professor was not only very understanding but helped immensely with applications.

Dr. Gerzanics is such a caring and understanding person! Though we had a lot of assignments, she was always happy to provide extensive feedback and give you a chance to fix the mistakes and improve your grade. I enjoyed taking her class and learned a lot! Attendance was almost half of the final grade, so make sure you show up in class.

Show up to class!! Dr. Gerzanics is so nice and caring. She genuinely wants you to do well in life, not just in her class. She'll assign you three big essays and require them to be a little lengthier. However, if you like to write essays, this is very doable but can be time-consuming. She lets you redo them, too, if needed. You will do great!

Very nice professor. If you didn't have enough time to turn in your first paper and it's finals, just ask and she will still let you do it full points. Also, ASK HER when you don't know something or think your paper sucks. She will help the best she can.

Mrs. Gerzanics is a fantastic English teacher. Her class was very interesting, and her approach to teaching was great. Additionally, she allows you to make corrections and resubmit your essays, which is fantastic! The homework is also very light.

She's AMAZING!!! Such a kind woman, and she makes a 7:45 am class fun, and connects well with her students. Her material is interesting and she tries to appeal to everyone—and her assignments are VERY open ended to allow students to write about essentially anything they want. Genuinely just a wonderful human being and a great teacher.

One of the smartest English professors at WVC. She makes lectures very entertaining and easy to follow along. Only two essays and a final. Very accessible during office hours to talk about anything or peer edit writing for other classes/UC apps.

Super willing to help during class, and gave contact info to reach her outside of class. So kind and enthusiastic about her lessons. Definitely take her if you can! Cannot recommend enough.

Very kind Professor, i went to her about other non school related issues and she was very caring, involved. She's a very down to earth individual. I took 2 classes with her, she's funny, smart & a fantastic professor! The classes i took were 3hrs long that's my only “complaint” but it was totally worth it!

This was a good class! She is funny & caring. The workload isn't difficult- there is a lot of writing. Her class is still manageable. Just put in the effort & stay on track. Class time is pretty chill. We used the textbook PDF & barely used it. There wasn't an exam but a 10-12 page essay at the end of the year. Just don't procrastinate it.

Professor Gerzanics is a brilliant teacher. Over the course of Eng 1B, she opened my eyes on how to read, watch, and explicate anything. I loved how over doughnuts she pushed our class to dig deep to find meaning. Finally, I enjoyed the essay assignments, graded on critical analysis. Her encouragement to find your new take on a work is liberating!

Possibly the best professor I ever had. I missed out on a lot of work because of other higher division classes but she still let me make up for work. Her lectures are great and she cares about the students point of view and how we interpret things. Being in that class and looking at the media we either watched or read really opened my eyes.

Janine Gerzanics is a wonderfully and energetic woman! She is inspiring and sparks insightful discussions in ENGL-001B and I'm sure she's a dream to have in other classes. Janine is great at teaching you how to form your own opinions and express your thoughts on stories and topics. She sometimes brought treats for us and was respectful of our time.

Janine is such a good prof!! Super helpful with her feedback, of which she allows a revision after initial grading. She's very passionate about what she teaches and genuinely wants her students to succeed. Love her, truly just make sure to go to class
