Greatest professor in the Political Science Department

Even though she is a Yankee, she clearly LOVES Arkansas and is an AMAZING teacher. She gets so excited about politics and really cares about you as a student.. she pushed back the due date of a huge paper because we all had other tests that week.

Absolutely AMAZING teacher. She is SO enthusiastic, and makes government interesting. She is so inspiring and I changed my major because of this class and because of how interesting she made it. Gives good study guides, but you have to study...it's not just a blow off class. I HIGHLY recommend.

The tests are very hard even though they are multiple choice. American Nat. Govt all just runs together so on the tests all of the choices are correct but one is more correct than the rest. Besides that she is a wonderful teacher. She is not boring plus she's hot that should keep you awake.

Great teacher, Very energetic. Had her for FYE too. She gave us Choc covered coffee beans. Tests are hard, but she does her best to help by giving out reviews and holding review sessions. My advice, don't wait last min to do your paper. And study the notes, that will help you.

Okay, number 1: She's HOT. Hot like the **** from hell. Number 2: Incredibly passionate about the subject, which makes a potential snore class into something to look forward to.

Best PLSC class I've ever had (I'm a PADM/PLSC Maj/Min, so I've had a lot). Truly amazing and passionate teacher. She could make a wad of gum stuck to her shoe an interesting lecture topic.

I've had her twice now...she's great. Truly cares about the students and what she's teaching. She conducts herself with so much passion and zeal. She is the best teacher I've ever had in my life. I would take every class from her. You'll have to work to get good grades in her classes, but that's what we're her for. She's just the best....

good teacher, but her tests are very hard

Great teacher, very nice. tests are very hard. Go to class everyday and you will be fine! Responds to emails immediately and is very willing to help.

AMAZING class. She made it so easy to understand. I loved every minute of the class. Her tests were all essay and fairly difficult, but she didn't grade too hard on the research paper...so that made an A in the class pretty feasible. I would recommend this class to ANYONE...it is VERY interesting!

probably one of my most favortie professors up here! shes really nice and willing to help out! she gives you study guides before each test which help out alot, and if you have any problems she is always willing to help you out with your grade. Take this class, its an easy A if you like government!

Dr. Parry is by far the best teacher I have had! She makes difficult material VERY easy to understand. Her tests are multiple choice and not too difficult but you need to study. She requires a short research letter that can really bring your grade up. Also, she has tutors at the ELC that can REALLY help you out with the tests and your paper!

Great teacher, easy to understand. The class, however, is not very easy. It isn't "hard" but all tests require reading of the book. I squeezed by with only studying my notes and got a high B and that's all you will get unless you decide to read your book. She's very enthusastic and a very nice teacher.

Parry obviously knows what she's talking about and likes her job. I've never seen her in a really bad mood. She constantly injects humor into her lecture, so it really doesn't get that boring. She also does a good job of trying to remain apolitical when teaching, something you don't always find in political science professors. Overall, she's great.

She is a wonderful person. She has a good sense in humor in class. She is a great professor. If you attend class reguarly and take good lecture notes the test are easy. She also gives you a study guide to help with the test.

Dr. Parry is one of the best professors at the U of A. Her teaching methods are outstanding and she really connects what she's teaching to things relevant to today. She is an amazing teacher and I recommend her to anyone that needs to take a government class!

Dr. Parry is an excellent teacher! she's really sweet and pretty funny too! American government isn't the most interesting class, but I doubt anyone else could teach it with more passion then she does. If you have to take it, deffinitely take it with her! Pretty easy too--- 3 tests, all multiple choice, 1 one-page research letter. thats it.

Great lady, great class. Lots of reading and very high expectations of her students, but very fair as well. I enjoyed her class, but will avoid her in the future just because it was so much work. But overall Dr. Parry is fantastic and her class was as well

Dr. Parry is a GREAT teacher. She loves her topic and treats it fairly- not politically biased. Takes the time to speak to and work with her students. Only negative is the group project. She randomly assaigns the groups, and you get stuck with the people.

this lady LOVES governement. ALOT. she's extremely passionate and enthusiastic which keeps the class fun. she's very funny and helpful. requires one paper that is only 1 page. have to study for tests though.

You are insane if you think she grades down for being conservative. If anything she grades you easier for making arguments that she disagrees with because she tries not to be bias. No matter your political affiliation, take her. Try hard, show up, read and you will do fine. Act like you know more than she does and you get what you deserve.

Dr. Parry is great! Arkansas Politics could easily be a dry subject, but she's brilliant and tons of fun to listen to. You'll learn a lot. Definitely take her if you get the chance!

A great teacher, she loves being there. There are only four test, but don't miss one b/c you have to make it up right after your final (not fun). Also have a research letter, which she does grade fairly hard.

I had Dr. Parry For ANG and she was perfect!. There is a research paper at the end but she doesn't grade THAT hard. She's so enthusiastic that class is fun! It doesnt matter what side of government you are on she grades great especially if you argue your points. Always willing to talk to you in her office about tests or paper. pretty cute too

Best teacher in the department. She's probably one of the top 5 teachers in the entire university. The people who say that she's tough on conservatives don't know what they're talking about. The tests are multiple choice and the paper isn't graded down for conservatism. If you did badly on the paper it's not her fault. You just did a bad job.

Dr. Parry is a fantastic teacher. She really encourages class discussion and listens fairly to everyone. She also has a sense of humor, which is a huge plus. She grades tests and papers pretty hard, so her classes are NOT easy A courses, but I learned a lot in her Arkansas Politics class and had fun along the way. I recommend her.

Awesome teacher! Absolutely loves what she teaches. Lectures are interesting. Does pull a few questions from textbook. Must come to class, must take notes, and do a bit of studying if you want an A. Can't call it a blow-off, but it's relatively easy if you put forth a bit of effort.

Parry is a great teacher! She loves what she teaches, and will make sure you understand. For this class, you don't need the book if you go to class. She sends out study guides. Anything she didn't cover in class you can just google and you will be fine. Multiple choice tests. If you study and go to class, you will do fine!

Love Dr. Parry! This class is a pretty straight-forward lecture with 3 tests and one 2-page paper, and as long as you go to class fairly regularly you'll do fine. Dr. Parry is very enthusiastic about government. She made me not dread going to class. Not just an easy A, but as long as you read along, go to class, and study it is do-able. She gives 30 clicker points for attendance, four test for 100 points each, and a paper worth 100 points

She is such an awesome teacher and very interesting to listen to. But take really good notes on what she says, not just what she writes on the board or puts on the screen. And read the book, I didn't and thats probably why i get B's instead of A's

Coming from someone who thought I hated Political Science, Dr. Parry is seriously awesome. She makes a not so fun subject enjoyable. Go to class, take notes, study the night before the test and there's no reason you shouldn't get an A. You can tell she loves what she does and she genuinely cares about her students.

I don't understand all the negativity towards Dr. Parry in the others posts. She allowed an open book exam and let us bring in a notecard for the final. She was very interesting with her lectures as well. Her knowledge of Arkansas Politics is brilliant and not many know more about the topic than her.

She says that she doesn't take attendance, but her secret way of doing that is by her clicker exercises. She gives the questions and answers during class, but you have to realize that's what she's doing. Go to class to get those easy clicker points. Read test the questions carefully because she words it difficult. She's super funny and nice!!

She is my favorite professor! She made a boring class so much fun. Her attitude was always so positive and made class something to look forward to. Her final consisted of old test questions, but she lets you look at your old tests and take notes off of them to study

AWESOME teacher. Class 3 exams, 1 comp final, & 1 paper. Lectures VERY specificonly covers what you're tested on. GO! Final exam ALL old questions from the 3 section exams. Made a 100% bc I went to review my old exams wher. She let me write down the questions. Paper DON'T BLOW IT OFF! It will makebreak you & is worth 15th total grade.

I took her for Politics of Film. It was an easy A. You watch movies in class, write a paper over them and have one final paper over one movie of your choice. She's a super easy grader, if you put in any effort at all you'll get an A

LOVE Dr Parry. Her high energy helps students pay attention to her lectures. As long as you take notes on the slides and study the slides, you should be fine on the tests. She is willing to do anything to help you succeed as long as you ask for her help. AWESOME professor and would recommend to anyone

Dr. Parry is very enthusiastic and always excited and happy to be in class. I have never studied for a test and have a C. You don't need the textbook and attendance is not mandatory.

Parry was an awesome professor. Her lectures were interesting but they last from the moment class starts until the very last minute. She is always willing to help but it's up to you to get the grade you want. She gives 3 tests, a paper, and a final. If you go to class and read the book it should be an easy B.

I gave the textbook use a 2, because I barely cracked the book, but she does ask a few (not many) questions about the book on her tests. All of the tests are multiple choice. The class was very, very good. You will laugh at least once, and she is very accessible to the students. Near the end of the semester, she opened up extra office hours.

Dr. Parry does a fabulous job of teaching about the American Governmental System! However, her lectures are supplemented greatly by the text, so if you want an A in the class, expect to read; it isn't much though, so if you put in a little effort and listen in class (and get your 30 clicker points), you'll be golden :)

Dr. Parry is so much fun to listen to! I barely had to study my notes before tests because she was so good at explaining everything in class. I passed with an A and I really feel like I know the subject well.

She is a nice person, but this course workload is high with a 8 page final exam, especially with writing 10 reviews and watching too many films.

I loved this class! Dr Parry is amazing and the film selection is an enjoyable mix of documentaries and dramatic works. There is a heavy workload, 2-3 page writing assignment each class period and a 10 page final paper. Her real life experience combined with her breadth of knowledge make for enjoyable lectures. I also enjoyed group discussions.

This class was pretty easy. The exams came straight from the notes in class and definitions in the textbook. I just reviewed my notes thoroughly and skimmed the chapters before each exam and I did very well. Take notes, read the book, and you'll pass the exams. There is one paper but it is just summarizing different articles on a certain topic.

Dr. Parry is one of the best professors on campus. She is passionate about politics and it is infectious. She makes some very dull aspects of Arkansas politics, like education policy, very interesting! Take her class. If you want to be successful, she will help you every step of the way as long as you are meeting her halfway. Love Dr. P!

Hands down one of the best teachers on campus. You need to go to class, and if you pay attention and try it is an easy grade. She does give extra credit opportunities. I started out reading the book and it helped, but half way through I stopped and just really payed attention in class. Her test are not hard if you understand the notes.

Never thought I'd look forward to a government class, but Dr. P made it really enjoyable. Always cracks jokes. Began every class (mine had 200+ students) by asking "Are all of y'all okay?" Go to class, take notes, write down the examples she gives, and you'll be fine on the tests. The annotated bib has clear instructions. So glad I took this class!

By far my favorite professor at the university. She will learn your name in a lecture hall of 250+ students. Definitely makes lectures interesting with witty jokes (although sometimes vulgar)10/10 would take again. One assignment all semester along with 4 tests and clicker questions. Not much else to say, just take her.

Dr. Janine Parry is easily the best professor I have had so far. I am a Chemical Engineering Major with absolutely no interest in going into politics, yet she made this subject extremely interesting. I loved going to her class. The only grades come from a few exams and an annotated bibliography. Just pay attention in class and you will be golden.

Great teacher who enjoys what she does. Getting an A in the class is very doable. Did not read the book but used it to study for test, looking up key terms not covered in lecture. Show up for class, get clicker points, take notes from her lecture power-points. Never had to stress for her class. 10/10

Dr. Parry is a gem! She takes time to get to know you, even if it is just through a couple of emails. She makes a point to make a connection. Lectures are energetic & easy to follow. Didn't even want to look at my phone because I actually enjoyed learning! I dabbled in the reading but mostly took detailed notes, which worked for me. 10/10

Politics on Film is a great class if you love political science. While films are a large part of the course, this is not a film class. The films are mostly discussed in the context of the political climate. Grading is mostly based on discussions and daily (yes, daily) research papers that are 2 to 3 pages in length. Dr. Parry is a great professor.

She is a great teacher and really is passionate about what she teaches. Attendance for here class was only like 5% of my grade where as the only other grades were four tests and a big paper all worth the same. Lectures are about as interesting as you can make em for the subject. But I really respect her as a teacher and If you try you'll be fine.

Only grades are four tests, a final, attendance points, and an annotated bibliography. Go to class to get the notes, and read the text book for key definitions and points. Great class, professor is scatter brained sometimes but catches herself and gets back on track.

Mrs. Parry is very good at lectures. She knows what she is talking about and delivers it well. If you go to class and do the test review she gives you before the test you will succeed. She makes an effort to learn her students names (in a class of 150+) which is really cool. You have to work hard for an A but its still my favorite class!

Dr. Parry is awesome! I have no interest in government, but the lectures were super interesting, and she really made them fun! The tests pull from both lecture and the text, so be prepared to read, and actually comprehend the book. Class is mandatory, but the participation grade is capped at 30, so you can definitely miss. 4 tests, 1 annotated bib.

Dr. Parry is a great lecturer, hilarious, and provides excellent feedback. Be prepared to work hard, read, and study for the exams. Easily the best professor I've had so far, very energetic and passionate about what she's teaching. I had this as my first morning class three days a week and her whole energy honestly helped me wake up every day. The only issue is that your grade depends mainly on 3 exams and a cumulative final, so you do have to put some study effort in.

Super funny and entertaining. Really nice lady as well. Tests are a little difficult because she does the a, b, a and b, neither a or b. options on tests. I suggest making flashcards of what she puts on the study guides and you'll be fine. Annotated bib is an easy way to boost your grade. Loved having her

She is very enthusiastic and has a lot of passion for what she teaches. A lot of her test questions are based on the book and her lecture so you have to go to lectures but I didn't read the book and I still did well. SHe's very funny and makes going to class interesting. Only 4 tests and 1 project affects your grade though.

She is hilarious, knowledgeable, interested, and super helpful. This class consists of 3 tests and 3 papers, but they're not hard if you pay attention and listen in class. Her class is not mandatory but you should go because she mentions random everything on the test. She grades based on fact but respects all opinions! I would take her again.

Dr. Parry is one of the sweetest professors I've ever had. She truly enjoys teaching and the subjects we go over. She grades fairly, so if you don't put in the effort you won't get the grade. Dr. Parry is super helpful, replies to emails quickly, and takes the time to learn every student's name. You won't regret taking her course.

She is the best. Dr. Parry is an amazing professor. A lot of exams that are content and lecture heavy. You have to study, but she is super sweet and really kind. I recommend looking over past tests before the final exam. I love and miss her lol.

PLEASE TAKE DR. PARRY IF IT IS THE ONLY TEACHER YOU TAKE! She is truly the most caring professor and will make sure she knows your name by 3 weeks in (which is why you should probably go to class). She loves what she teaches and will make you love it too.

Best professor Ive had thus far at the U of A. She is absolutely phenomenal. Always available via email to help. Keeps class discussions on point and fun. I took the inter session class so it was fast paced and loaded but she made it enjoyable.

Dr. Parry is truly one of the best at the UofA! I cannot recommend her class enough. While she expects you to actually understand the information and put your best effort forward, she is a fair grader and will provide useful feedback. She truly is one of those few and far between professors.

Exams matter and the annotated bibliography is a easy A but doesn't help your grade out a lot

This class was in no way easy, but Dr. Parry made it so enjoyable! She always made me laugh and I learned a lot from her. She is super understanding and caring as well! Take a class with her for sure!

Class is based on three take home exams (which are papers) and a research paper that you work on parts of throughout the semester. She is the single best professor I have ever had. Please take this class or any of her classes! You will not regret it!! She has made such a positive impact on my college career.

Wrapping up an intersession with her so I cant speak about a semester long class but she is awesome! The tests take some preparation and the book is definitely needed. She is supper passionate and tries to liven up the topics she covers. She is one of my favorite professors I have had so far (Im a junior) and I would definitely recommend her!

Wow. Cannot speak highly enough for Dr. P. So passionate and knowledgable. Truly amazing lectures that leave you thinking. I never dreaded waking up for this class. You will learn, read, think, analyze data and write (a lot) - you have no choice but to learn and you will be better for it. The Parry experience is unlike any other. 100% recommend.

Honestly one of the best teachers I've ever had, makes information understandable and keeps your attention while lecturing. Attendance is required but its not bad because of the way she teaches. The only bad part is that the test aren't open note and basically the only grade, so don't take if your not good at test taking.

extremely engaging lecturer, she makes the content easy to understand and is genuinely entertaining due to her obvious passion for the subject. make sure you know the study guides she sends out though and you 100% have to at least learn the vocab from the book. grades are entirely based on exams and 30 attendance points so you can miss quite a bit

Dr. Parry is the best professor I have ever had. The definition of cares about your learning. I am so sad I wont be able to take her next year because she is leaving. I had a hard semester so attending class was difficult for me but she puts all the lectures online and that saved me. Amazing woman in general.

Professor Parry was a fantastic professor because she was very passionate about her teaching and made the lectures enjoyable. She also will go out of her way to help everyone to the best of her ability. I highly recommend taking this course and selecting her as your professor!!

Dr. Parry is a very passionate professor and an amazing lecturer. You can tell that she is highly educated. This class was difficult. There are 3 exams and 20 points worth of attendance. There is an opportunity to replace exam 1 or 2 with an annotated bib. If you do bad on any exams, it is hard to get a good grade.

If you're considering Dr. Parry for a class in Spring '24, DO IT. It will be her last semester at the U of A and it will be the most rewarding experience you've ever had. I've taken two upper-division classes with her and they've legitimately changed my life and my worldview. You owe yourself a Parry class before she retires.

Professor Parry is an engaging lecturer with a clear passion for the subject. While the class is challenging, Unstuck AI and the textbook can be very helpful study tools. Attendance is mandatory but worth it.
