He knows how to get points across to his students and makes class interesting.
dont ever take him for this class he dosent seem to know what he is doing
accent is difficult to get through
Jinn is hilarious. He keeps your attention and reinforces important concepts
His accent isn't bad at all; people just don't listen-easy class!
I don't understand him and he doesn't you when you go to his office
Very nice, but hard to follow sometimes.
Class average on the first exam was in the 40% range. He is VERY knowledgeable
Should NOT be allowed to teach! Unfair, unclear, and very rude
Good Teacher, you must be willing to listen and apply material.
Sometimes hard to understand. Pretty large curve on grades. Nice Prof.
Very nice, helpful...somewhat rude to some students. Funny examples and ez exams
He uses excellent examples and makes you want to listen. very friendly
Nice prof. Knows the stuff well, but sometimes hard to follow. good grading!
Spends too much time on the easy things and blows over the complicated.
impacient with students and does not teach concepts clearly
Horrible teacher.Tries to be funny, just annoying. Does not care about students.
Goes too fast, not a good teacher, singles out students
Does not speak clearly. Assignments are confusing and are hard to complete.
very unclear and goes way too fast

Gets mad when you ask questions. Hard to understand. Pretty funny though.

Dr. Jinn is an excellent teacher, must be willing to learn, highly recommended
Goes quick. Come to learn. Very helpful out of class, not in though.
funny, funny man. the class is difficult, but if you ask questions he likes you
Nice guy, very funny. Willing to adjust pace and put off homework if needed.

VERY hard to understand (chinese), great grading scale, and pretty funny
He is very funny
Honestly cares about his pupils' learning. Funny, but may offend some; blunt.
horrible. makes fun of students, rude, and class is way too fast paced
Very hard to understand, Dont take class
He is not very well at explaining the work and he makes sta very complicated
it is very hard to understand him unless you listen very carefully.
Makes class fun; he's a riot. easy to understand after first few days.
just write the book in your notes and take it to the test its all open notes
makes class fun, tries to relate class to teaching for future teachers
Fun teacher, is offending when you miss a question on a test
Save yourself! Dont take him unless your really smart
Very down to earth, pay attention, ask if you don't understand, see after class.
DONT TAKE HIM!!! YOU WILL FAIL!!!!!
picks on quiet students, has favorites but most still fail
he was OK, but I learned more from Gabrosek
worst class ever
Makes fun of students who fail tests. Avoid him if unassertive.
Funny, picky grader, calls on random students, if you don't know don't go
i have never been so frustrated. you ask for help, and he just tells you how easy it is, and that you need to read the worksheet again. i will NEVER take a course by him again
Very hard. Will pick on the same people all the time. Makes you feel really stupid
If you are a girl take him you will get at least a B, if you are a guy write the whole book in your notes for the exam and you will Ace it.
This was THE hardest class of my GVSU career. he's not very willing to help and tells you to get out of his class if you don't understand b/c it's so easy. yeah right!
He's a great teacher. The only reason I can find not to take him is his accent, and you get over that after a couple days. Sometimes misunderstood cause he's a bit cocky, but knows what he's doing.
The worst class at gvsu thus far. Midterm Avg was 56%. explains things in class, but tests on material that was barely touched in class. have to admit though, he is funny. rags on people daily.
Very rude to students, especially those with less understanding. Entertaining, but often at the expense of others. You might have luck if you're an attractive girl, but otherwise if you are not an exceptional student, you should consider avoiding him.
Makes you feel stupid if you don't understand the topic. The best thing about the class is that you can use notes on the exams.
Easiest class I've taken at GV and I hate numbers! People blame his accent, but that's just an excuse; many profs. at GV have accents. Get over it. Great professor! Very funny!
you ask him a question and he answers a different one. he talks about how easy it is andmakes you feel stupid for not understanding
he is really hard and rude, i failed his class but got an a with a diff prof, i dont think it was just me.His class was the worst i have ever taken at gvsu.
Craziest professor in the world
He at least trys to be a good professor, and his grading scale is quite easy (E.G. 70% = B-). But I really don't know what is going on in this class. The clarity and helpfulness of this class is at an absolute low.
he confuses you, you are better off learning it by using the book. avoid this prof

best prof i've had so far at GV. He knows his stuff and is absolutely hilarious. Very enjoyable class and grading scale is easy too. Also, no homework to speak of is a bonus.
His projects and tests are not clear, he doesn't set due dates for them either. His notes and teaching methods are probably one of the worst I have seen ever. He does try to be a good professor, and his grading scale is what allows people to pass 70% = B-
This proff is very funny. If you go to class and do the book unrequired hw you'll do fine in class, but otherwise nothing makes sense. He wants you to learn as much as you can and gets frustrated when you don't. Open note exams and quizes
I don't know if this thing was around when I took STA 215 the second time around with Jin, but I thought he influenced those who otherwise would have been intimidated by a math class, to do well. He's a bit quirky. If you don't get him, class can be hard.
If you don't understand the homework assignment go to the math lab because he will not help you. He wants you to learn stats on your own. If you want to be taught don't take him, but if you are able to teach yourself you should do fine.
i dont understand the problem others are having. Sure he is sarcastic and calls people out, but its all fun. An if you pay attn you will get an A just like i did.
I enjoy the class alot more than I thougt I would. The first test and quize have been easy. Not much homework is required, just pay attention during lectures and do the homework he assigns and you will do just fine.
Worst professor I've ever had.I'm a strong math student but I feel that I did horrible in this class because of his teaching methods. He makes you feel stupid if you ask questions, or go to his office. He picks on people. The only way I made it through this class was help from the tutor lab. AVOID HI
i started out in this class then dropped it after the first 2, I knew this guy would be no good...TAKE PROFESSOR REGAN INSTEAD, *THE* best prof I've ever had!! don't believe me? Check out his ratings
Professor is very crazy. He has trouble controlling the volume of his voice. He belches in class and picks on students. He is a very funny guy. Lectures are very boring. Grading scale is easy, but I had to learn everything on my own. I got an 80% and still managed a B+.
As a math major I thought that it would be easy. Boy was I wrong. He made it quite a challenge. Now, I enjoy a challenge, but the professor needs to teach for me to learn. Jinn does not teach. I got an A, but only because I read the book a lot. Take him, but be ready to work for your grade.
Very challenging class. If you're looking for an easy A then you're in the wrong class. I spent alot of time in the math lab. In class he makes it seem easy but when you're outside of class it's a different story. I managed to get an A- by the grace of GOD.
Sometimes hard to understand
I found him to be very helpful if you went to his office to ask a question. He is hard on students in class, but c'mon we're adults, grow up and prepare for class! I think he scared some students and pissed a couple off. I thought he was pretty funny, if you lighten up and don't get offended by being teased a little you will be fine.
Amazing prof. He is very funny and sarcastic which made the class enjoyable. Be prepared to be teased. Just take the time to understand the material and complete all assignments. Allows formula sheet and notes on tests. Overall my favorite class in 3 years.
Professor Jinn is awesome! He makes the class interesting & enjoyable by joking around and teasing the students. He posts notes on blackboard which he allows you to use on all of the tests & quizzes. If you have to take Stats. 215, I would def. reccomend Professor Jinn. ;-)
Proffessor Jinn, by far, is the best teacher @ GV i've ever had. He's hillarious... but still teaches material. If you like to have fun, arn't too serious, but like to learn.. Jinn is your man. I've heard so many STA horror stories of other profs.. but i have none about Jinn!!! Take him for sure!
Prof. Jinn is seriously the best professor ever. he is so funny, and he keeps you entertained. He teaches the material well, and his exams arent too difficult. his final is hard though. he's awesome!
Jinn is hilarious. If the class hadn't been in the morning and downtown, I wouldn't have ever skipped it. Despite how many times I skipped, I still did relatively well (B). Jinn does know how to teach, as long as you pay attention (which is sometimes hard when he teaches in the computer lab).
Take the Summer course. I took Statistics twice during the regular semesters and failed miserably. Took the course with Dr. Jinn and passed with flying colors. Great teacher. He forces you to understand before you move on.
very funny, class not mandatory but its worth it to go. easy class just listen and study a bit for exams, do the HW and you get an A. if your write "shit" for an answer you dont know he give you points. some of his jokes he takes a little to far but besides that he is the best prof i have had.
His accent made it difficult at first, but he joked about it. His humor made the class interesting and he really wanted to make sure that I knew the material. He prefers you to use his office hours if you can instead of tutor hours so he knows what you need help with. I never would have gotten through Stats without that amount of dedication.
Very hard to understand, and very rude when you as a question!
Professor Jinn is awesome! He's hilarious and he sure knows his stuff! He has so many funny stories and he takes time to get to know each student. Kind of hard to understand sometimes, but you get used to it. If you have to take this class, he's the one to get!
interesting
Prof. Jinn is a great guy. Really funny and he learns and remembers everyone's names. He is good at teaching this subject. This class is one I dreaded taking and I wound up liking to go to it because of the fun stories and atmosphere. Love him!
I think he is absolutly hilarious. hes an extremely nice guy but u want to get on his good side. just do your work, come to class with a good attitude, and just study a little bit just to make sure u do decent on his exams and everything will be perfect. by the way, he lets you use your notes (that he makes for you) on your exams and quizes...
pretty funny, though sometimes hard to understand
Awesome! Kept Class interesting - very fun guy.
Jinn is not a professor. He is an experience. This guy is so utterly crazy and hillarious I'd consider taking this class again for the hell of it just to get a good laugh, and it's easy to boot.
This guy is probably one of the best statistic teachers you will find at GV. For his accent and being from Taiwan, he is really good with the english language. He makes it as fun as stats can be and tells some good stories and always brings it back around to stats. Plus, you get to use notes on quizzes and tests. Great class!
Prof. Jinn is amazing. I never had any experience with stats and still did really well in the class and it made sense. He tells funny stories and picks a few students that are his favorites. Very encouraging, always pushing you to the next level!
Statistics is no picnic. Go to class and try and you'll be fine. Prof. Jinn is VERY funny and out there. He has a strong accent which forces you to go over the material. He will see you during office hours and help; he's really good with emails too. His rubric is GREAT. I am horrible at math and got a good grade. I highly recommend him!
great prof. sometimes hard to understand but just ask him to repeat if you get lost. VERY FUNNY! he hates to see students not trying
Jinn is hilarious. Had him for summer semester, and he's a riot. Very understanding with his students and always willing to help. Take him for stats.
Horrible!
He is very interesting and funny. Don't take it seriously, don't get offended. He has a PhD in math/statistics, what kind of humor do you expect!? He is hard to understand but he is a good writer. I asked him questions in an email once and his response was so good that I emailed my questions weekly after that. Highly recommended!
Great teacher. Go to all classes. Take notes. He is funny and makes the material simple.
I read this and was not that worried about taking his class... I spent all my time in class just trying to understand what he was saying. I took AP stats in high school and felt like I came out of this class knowing less. He wasn't clear on tests or quizzes about what he was looking for for an answer. Unless you're good at stats, I would avoid hi
Never took stats before, did all the homework and studied right before the exam. Easiest A in college. doesnt care if you come to class, cracks jokes all the time.
Go to class and actively pay attention and take notes. Lots of conceptual questions. When he repeats himself over and over- take note even if he sounds funny. Write down everything he says and study it. I got an A- without the book but he actively uses it during class.
At first it seems he is just insulting you the entire time. Then you find out he is being sarcastic, it just doesn't come across because of language difference. He is not being a prick, he is just trying to entertain himself.
Makes the class very enjoyable! Tells a lot of stories during class which helps it go by fast. Can use notes for exams. Homework goes along with what you learn in class. Highly recommend!
Hard and confusing class and Prof. He's semi nice and tells entertaining stories, but that was his only redeeming quality. I've heard Frobish's class is much easier.
He told funny jokes and stories - and although he didn't mean it to be offensive, I think some may have been offended by some of the comments he made. He grades the projects pretty rough, but he gives you plenty of time to work on them - so start early and ask him questions (he was always willing to help!) or get help from the stats lab!
means well, but wasn't a great prof. a lot of time is spent writing code for a program that he isn't completely familiar with…get the book and reference it for the projects, all exams are open note so keep everything
The professor often brings up in class that people complain about his accent making him hard to understand, but Professor Jinn speaks amazing English. Others complain about him telling offensive jokes (which he indeed does), but without those jokes, I would have died from boredom while taking this course.
Hard to understand, condescending, makes you feel stupid if you don't understand the material. He is funny, but that wasn't worth the class experience. If you can get someone else, do it.
Prof. Jinn is a awesome teacher who gives you clear statistics examples from daily life. Make it much easier to understand this hard class! Definitely recommend!!
Prof. Jinn is hilarious! Honestly just loved class because of his personality. He can be condescending but that's his sense of humor. Overall, if you just listen, you'll get an A. The programming at first is kinda difficult, but once you get the hang of it, the class is a piece of cake. If you're a stats majorminor, highly recommend.
Most hilarious professor I've ever taken!!! And the class super easy. Tests weren't too difficult and they were completely open noteopen book and the projects were practically given to you.
Professor Jinn's analogies are hilarious. I will always remember Bonferroni method :)
Prof Jinn is a really funny guy, his accent is hard to understand at first but its tolerable and you get used to it as the semester goes on. His exams for this class were difficult but they are all open "anything", which basically means book, notes, and all handouts given which basically lays out the steps for you. Be ready to do SAS projects(7)
Dr. Jinn is a funny guy who knows what he is talking about. Some of his lectures can be a bit confusing as he often switches between humor and reality. Honestly, his class was fairly easy with just a couple of exams. If you attend class, its not a difficult class to get an A.
If you aren't majoring in Stats, and it comes easily to you, or even if you like teaching yourself, Prof. Jinn is fine. He's (sorta not really) funny, and there isn't much work. If you need to use Stats anytime after 215 however, I would NOT take this professor
This guy is hilarious! Not only is he really good at teaching you stats, but he also gives amazing life lessons. His accent takes a few days to get used to, but you get passed it. Great guy all around.
Hilarious. Made the fairly boring study material more interesting.
Professor Jinn was by far the worst professor I've had in my 4 years as a student. He regularly told us that we should know things, and rather than slowing down and trying to catch us up, he would berate us and then continue, effectively confusing us and preventing progress. He was not even close to accommodating. I would NOT recommend at all.
Prof. Jinn is a very nice guy and has an interesting sense of humor. He uses relevant examples in his lectures , he loves when you ask questions and is always willing to help. My only problem was that I'm not very good at math so it was hard for me to maintain a B. The tests were a little hard to understand but overall, he's pretty good.
Funny guy, and makes his lectures accessible, but a rather unforgiving grader. DO NOT SKIP HIS LECTURES.
He is a little intimidating at first, but he is a great professor. He has a great sense of humor; I laughed in every single class. He is very clear on what he expects on his exams and quizzes. Make sure to make it to every lecture! He is a tough grader, but extremely fair.
His lectures are very clear. He walks you through exactly what you need to do which was very helpful because I can not do anything related to numbers. He tells a lot of stories, which can be distracting--but they're usually really funny.
Professor Jinn likes to mock and make fun of his students. Don't ask any questions and you'll be fine. He allows you to use your book and notes on all exams and quizzes, but he doesn't teach you very well that way you can understand the information. Professor Jinn assigns little homework because he doesn't want to grade.
Dr. Jinn doesn't care about long-term learning, and spent more time making fun of the students than lecturing about the content. He asked the female students inappropriate questions involving their romantic lives, and refused to answer good questions, such as "why is ____ the case?" All in all, I would not take this professor again.
Professor Jinn's sense of humor takes a bit of getting used to, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. He covers everything in class, so as long as you go and take notes, the book isn't necessary. All his tests are open note, and the final is non-cumulative. He's not the most exciting professor, but as long as you put in some effort it's an easy A.
Professor Jinn is a very tough grader. His lectures are an experience for sure. If you get an A in his course I envy you. He grades super fast for the most part. Even my final exam was available to me within a day.
yells at you when you ask questions about the grade you got on an assignment. hard to understand
Professor Jinn is a good Professor to take for stats. I had to retake it due to dropping the first time but I got a B+ easily in this class and Im not good at math. Its open everything. If you come to class, do the homework and take good notes, you will pass.
