All assignments are online and self explanatory. Grades consists of participation, four tests and chapter quizzes. Shes always helpful during office hours and understands we have a lot going on so you're given multiple days to complete assignments. Every class is a lecture but they're super interesting and she gives examples. PLEASE TAKE HER!!!!

Taft-Young is a great professor. Attendance is marked through participation with clickers (also a grade). She makes lectures relatable by including humor and pictures of her son. She made me be okay with waking up at 8:30. She is very friendly and relatable. Tests and Quizzes are all online. The quizzes are retakable.

Although Dr. Young was a bit boring at times, the content of her lectures were always on point with what was expected on the tests. For my class, all tests were online and open note as were the midterm and final. Definitely an easy A for someone who has never taken psychology such as myself.

One of my favorite professors at JMU! She's always willing to help and definitely understands that many are in the class to fulfill the gen-ed requirement. All tests are online (including the final) with weekly online quizzes that are easy to get 15/15 on. If you put in the work you're guaranteed at least a B or A. Also gives great extra credit.

Easy gen ed. Her class is pretty easy since all her quizzes and tests are online and open book/notes, including the final. Attendance isn't mandatory but she does clicker questions so not going will definitely hurt your grade. She gave lots of extra credit at the end of the semester which bumped my grade up a lot. Everything was open note and online, even tests, but the time limit for quizzes was pretty short. Dr. Young was very sweet and loved to show her son Alex. She went into depth on the topics, and if you put the effort in it'll show. There are mandatory clicker participation questions, but as long as you don't miss too many classes you'll be fine.

Dr. Taft-Young is a great professor. Listening to her lecture makes me feel learning a lot!Her class does require you read a lot of textbooks and an online quiz is followed with each chapter, so be ready to read! A big part of your grade is based on clicker questions and you have to go to class in order to get credit. There are two tests, so that makes it hard because there is so much information on the final. Such a nice lady though! She genuinely wants to get to know her students, so go visit her in her office! The class has challenging concepts, yet she tries hard to teach the material thoroughly. She definitely cares about her students and is extremely approachable. Dr. Young is very organized and straightforward. The class I took had over 200 people, for which she did a very good job. Janna Taft Young was one of the best professors I have ever had at JMU. She bases her class off of class participation (22% of your overall grade). She is always willing to help and offers a lot of extra credit opportunities. You can take the weekly online quizzes twice and she keeps your highest grade. All assessments are online.

Very kind and really wants her students to do well. Has quizzes based off of chapter readings and tests based off of lecture. Before each test, she has you watch a movie, apply psyc concepts to the film, and then discuss in groups. Honestly, was super helpful in understanding concepts. Be prepared to work for your grade but an overall great class!

Dr. Young was amazing choice for PSYC stats. Her guidelines were always clear and while lectures could get a little tiresome (it's a stats class in her defense), she always effectively communicated lecture material. Class participation is a big part of your grade, but you get it by just showing up. She's very fair and exams come from lab and class.

I am really glad I took Dr. Taft-Young. Her class is amazing and really makes it easy to learn especially for a 8:40am class. She goes over all her assignments and gives you clear guidelines and expectations. Do need to study a bit for the tests but they are not hard and there is usally extra credit. Taft-Young is a solid choice in class- clear lectures, easy readings (follows textbook), all quizzes/tests are open book. Online wasn't great b/c it was very 'teach yourself' instead of lectures. If you approach her after class she does a lot to answer questions. Use the clicker app, not a physical app.

Wants her students to succeed and really cares. Take her if you're worried about stats, she will help you understand. Textbook recommend but not required. Solid choice!

psych 101 was online this semester, so I am not sure how it would be if it were in person, but Professor Young was super nice and the class was not hard at all. There are quizzes every week on canvas but they are easy, and every test/quiz is multiple choice. no papers or projects. I recommend her!

Don't buy the book, you can get it for free online. Lectures were interesting, easy to follow, and included required participation credit. Quizzes were a bit more difficult but easy if you read or use your resources. Exams were much easier than quizzes. Dr. Taft Young is interested in the material and eager to answer questions. This is a great option for a GenEd class, however I wasn't the biggest fan of the prof. Her class is really easy, save your money and don't buy the textbook since all the quizzes and tests are on socratic. Participation points from lecture were graded, which was a pain since lecture was basically intolerable Fridays at 9am.

Dr. Young is a very flexible personI had to miss class due to a family emergency and vax appt, so she worked with me to make sure I was still able to earn participation points. Grade is based on participation (clicker q's), chapter quizzes (don't buy the textbook, can find on Google), and exams (application questions based on her lectures).

Dr. Young was very helpful this semester with going above and beyond to make sure we were understanding the material. She uses Turning Point clicker questions as both attendance and participation, and it's super helpful for reviewing. There's a quiz or two every week on the textbook chapters, but they're pretty straightforward.

Lectures are very interactive to keep you involved. Does a great job of giving you a general understanding of psychology. I liked the clicker questions and that she posted the slideshows and lectures. Tests were easy as long as you studied the provided slideshows. I would 100% recommend.

I highly recommend taking this professor for psych 101, she uses turning point to check attendance and this semester the code has always been the same so if you arent in class she cant tell, all the quizzes and tests are online and open note and overall shes a very good teacher and cared about her students and their opinions.

My lecture has 300 people in it and she somehow makes it feel like 20 people. Her lectures are really helpful for a quiz each week - she'll extend the quiz due date if not all topics were discussed. Everything is taken at home to reduce stress. She makes the class interactive with a dif version of Kahoot that is used for attendance/participation.

She takes attendance by asking questions that help you learn the concepts. Her lectures are very helpful when it comes to the tests and quizzes. She explains things very clearly and gives good examples. There is a quiz every week, but she will move it if she feels she hasn't covered enough information. I would definitely take her.

This class was uninteresting for me because her lectures are so boring. Get friends in this class if you want any chance of getting a legit A, otherwise your motivation to try will be negative. Lectures are so boring, but if you get the right pattern of showing up and working with colleagues it will be fine.

Dr. Young's PSYC 101 class was pretty easy as long as you are paying attention to the lectures and doing the readings. I loved the Poll Everywhere questions. She recommends getting Archive for better practice, but I found that it was not necessary. Exams and quizzes are open note, so just prepare a cheat sheet and you will do just fine.

Dr. Young is an INCREDIBLE professor. I genuinely got so lucky by ending up in her class. She explains topics and concepts so well, and if you need clarification she is open and accommodating. Biggest downside is attendance is factored into your grade, as daily PollEverywhere check-ins are part of your grade. Otherwise amazing class, amazing prof.
