Professor Nielsen is great. Her assignments are clear and concise for a lab that isn't very interesting. The class consists of a quiz each week and two lab practicals. She is there for you if you show interest and participate in the class. Studying is of course required but it is not something you can't handle. She also gives extra credit. Take her
Prof. Nielsen is an amazing professor, she's nice and is there to help you to understand the assignment. The work is easy if you study and look over your quizzes. Take her! She's the best lab professor I've had so far :)
Loved her, she is very sweet. Take her
Really easy. Power points will be posted onto d2l before each lecture. There is a 10 question quiz due before each class all the answers will be found on the powerpoint. As long as you go over the power points you will pass each test and quiz with an A. No need to purchase textbook. I hate science and passed this class. EASY A!
She makes power points but they are boring as well as her teaching so if sleeping is what your looking for take her. She does give extra credit which was a bit helpful, but she gives lots of work and grades really hard. You have to take notes or you will not follow unless you love science , and I highly recommend study groups or you will FAIL!!!!
I love her! She is awesome. The class was very fun & she literally walkd around & helped EVERYONE. The labs were easy & lab partners help to make it better. There was a quiz of 10 ques. + extra credit every class, but so worth it. NO tests and no "lab reports". This lady knows her STUFF. If you want to be stress-free, take Dr. Nielsen!
After completely failing this class last semester, I took her and even though the class is not over yet, i expect to pass. She is so sweet, helpful, caring and helps in EVERY WAY POSSIBLE. Gives extra credit, tests are based on what is learned in class, gives study guides and walks around class and helps you. She is superior and one of the best!!!
If you have to take Biology to graduate you would be kind of dumb not to take her. Though Biology is a very hard subject and the material you learn is not easy, professor Nielsen DOES NOT WANT YOU TOO FAIL. She will do anything to make sure you pass the class. One of the most caring professors I have ever met.
Try not to take this class unless science is your life or your confidence in God is similar to science. So if your not into science and are brought up in a christian family were you know they let you know everything originates from God. You may experience considerable difficulties to this dialect. She doesn't talk like somebody would in plain.
Try not to purchase the reading material. Attempt to discover the exams online in light of the fact that 90% haven't attempted to do that yet you ought to attempt to search for different exams by distinctive schools for this particular subject. I purchased the book it helps just a bit. In any case, it doesn't if your me. What she addresses in class
What she addresses in class is worded totally uniquely in contrast to whats on the test. She gives additional credit yet its not worth much. Ensure when you take the tests you get a 100% In the event that you dint get a hundred continue attempting you got two possibilities. You can pose any inquiries, yet in the event that you don't know
You can pose any inquiries, yet in the event that you don't know something don't proclaim it or estimate. Why in light of the fact that she loathes it when you do that. Try not to get in your inclination about it. Regardless she'll help. Like truly on the off chance that you don't have the foggiest idea about an answer amid the addresses in class
The bulletin ought to have truly decent pictures. also, run hard and fast with all the data. The gathering task for my class was changed to individual venture. My class part was changed to individual venture.
She experiences the exhausting parts of the address truly quick and what she's truly intrigued by she will expound on it with more life and more points of interest and cases and stories. That's my most loved part. That's the part when we really have a fast dialog in class with every one of the understudies being intrigued.
If you want to learn Oceanography this lady is a lifesaver! She is not very hard in fact she is not hard at all! She curves her tests so if you do pretty bad you will get a much higher grade and she gives 2 chances on the quizzes that are already open book and easy. TAKE HER!!!
THIS PROFESSOR IS REALLY HARD. HER TEST HAS NOTHING TO DO HER LECTURES. IF YOU WANT TO PASS YOU HAVE TO DO IT ON YOUR OWN. AND READ THE BOOK FROM FRONT TO BACK. ALOT OF HOMEWORK AND IN CLASS WORK. DO NOT TAKE IF U NEED TO PASS. AND U DEF. NEED THE BOOK
Very nice person and a great professor. She will work with you and has a genuine interest in your education. The subject may be hard for some people, but she offers extra credit and helps you out with the assignments. Tests aren't hard and she provides you with study guides. As long as you do the work and study, you should be able to pass.
She is a very sweet professor and she WILL help you if you're confused. As far as teaching, she's okay. She does read off of the powerpoint but will engage with classmates. She gives a lot of extra credit. Would hight recommend doing them. It is a hard class, so the tests are hard, even if you take notes. Give some effort, and you'll pass.
Professor Neilsen is an awesome professor! Took her class for the Fall term Oceanography and lab. There is an assignment every class and lab and if you don't show up you wont get credit. Very important to come to class. Test r multiple choice with some fill in. Her study guides r pretty confusing but if you don't understand just ask her. no book ,
She's a very hard grader. Her study guides for the tests are confusing I suggest you study the entire text book along with your notes. This professor reads from the powerpoint and takes forever to explain a simple question, there's a quiz for each chapter and yes her lectures are long and boring so if you want to sleep just take her
Out of my 60 AA credits, she is literally the easiest professor I've had. For biology lab TAKE HER! 13 take home, open note, online quizzes which I got over a 90 on every one, and a final that is 10% of grade, and is 20 questions; Attendance does matter, and if you have background knowledge in science than it will be an easy A for sure!
She was absolutely the best teacher I have had. Her lectures are great and interactive with an activity almost every lecture and worksheets that are done for credit. Her class is pretty easy if you pay attention and do the review for the exams they will help.
Professor Nielsen is super sweet, and explains things so easily that you don't have to study to remember them. One project for the semester, which is an easy 500 word Fact Sheet. Exams are multiple choice, and then some questions that require an explanation. Gives extra credit on every test, drops lowest grade. Makes the class fun, and interactive.
This class was super easy, & easy to understand. Each class you work out of the workbook, or get a handout, & after it's done, which is fairly quickly, you can go. She will take you outside, w/your rain boots, & get into the lake for bathymetry. You get to sift through sand, & play connect the dots w/ocean valley maps. She's very helpful, & caring.
She is an amazing professor, she just got some trouble to explain things sometimes but if you don't understand you can ask and she will help you even better, overall you should take care, class is easy and you learn a lot
I had Professor Nielsen for Ocean Lab, she's a bit on the awkward side but she's nice. Her labs were easy and somewhat fun for the most part. You will be working with you classmates a lot and be prepared to have a quiz every class. Don't miss lab or you won't pass!
Shes funny, and really tries to help her students learn. Easy A. provides study guides that are helpful and offers a lot of extra credit. 4 exams no final. Always has activities in class to help you learn. Take her if you want an easy pass for biology.
Nice women I'd recommend her as a second choice but very easy. Whole semester is Pearson labs which you can cheat on, from videos and a little bit online. 4 exams, and 1 project. Its an easy class, the study guides give you the exact questions to test. Study powerpoint if you dont like reading book. Doesnt know how to explain things though. But shy
Amazing professor Best decision I've ever made. 5 exams, a few homework assignments, and quizzes that are also extra credit & extra credit participation at the end TAKEHER there's study guides before every test although some were unrelated to most things on the test JUST STUDY, passed with an A just by studying a little before every exam.
great professor. 5 exams, a few homework assignments, and online quizzes that are extra credit if u pass & extra credit participation. usually gives the class group work. There's study guides before every test although some were unrelated to most things on the test JUST STUDY, passed with an A just by studying before every exam.
The BEST!!!! Shes very sweet and understanding ! take her class. you wont regret it.
She's truly genuine & is there for you 24/7, I emailed her ALOT and she helped me SO much. Her test seem hard if your new to science but once you get the structure of them your good. Really enjoyed her class, & you will Too. Ending with a high B border line A, as well as the same for Lab.
Take this prof. she is truly amazing. Everything she teaches is on the test and gives you extra credit for online assignments, interesting lectures great prof
THE BEST! She makes her own study guide that is super detailed and long but if you review that it is a guaranteed A.
She really tries to help her students learn. Easy A. provides study guides that are helpful and offers a lot of extra credit
sweetest professor. Very nice. Offers extra credit during quizzes and practicals. Theres a quiz at the beginning of every class about the previous lab. practical is hard tho so study well.
She is a fine teacher. She is really nice, accessible outside class, patient but I still believe she have to work on her explanation skills. She could explain better. You can finish this class with a good grade but you will really work hard for it because tests are though.
She is better at the lab than the lecture but you still work really hard for it.
I understand biology is not easy. But this teacher makes it so much harder than it needs to be. Literally creates assignments randomly. Unorganized & does not care. Nice person but as an educator has so much room for improvement. By the way there is no such thing as "review" in this class. Took for lab & lecture. If theres a better option, take it!
She is a wonderful professor both for lab and the lecture. Def not an easy A but prepares you well especially if you want to major in biology. Participate in class, go to class, do her assignments this will all help you tons. Shes very reasonable, professional, available , communicative. Highly recommend.
Professor walks around and helps people with lab if they have questions, but she needs to explain how to do the lab better. I was always clueless, I am happy I had a good lab partner who did most of the work. There's a 5 question quiz every lab with 1 extra credit point and a 15 question final. Make sure to fill out everything in the lab manual.
Professor Neilsen is a great professor. Shes really sweet and takes time to make sure that you understand the concepts and has no problem going over concepts you have difficulty with. You must work and attend all classes, you learn a lot!!Overall, it was a wonderful semester!! Highly recommend taking her classes!
You get a grade for attendance and extra credit on each quiz honestly If you actually try youd pass. She gives study guides for each test and its really direct on what will be on the test. Use the study guide and you are sure to pass
I took Dr. Nielsen for both lecture and lab. She is amazing. Her study guides are long, but very helpful for the exams. She provides a lot of extra credit and is always accessible outside of class. Shes so sweet and cares for all her students. If you use her study guides, do the homework, and go to class you will be fine.
I had this professor for lab and she was good at explaining the objective of the day. She gives post and pre lab quizzes which are extremely easy if you just study the guide she provides. Shes amazing !
Very visual teacher. She likes to do group activities for each class that represent what were learning. Her test were straightforward and she gave study guides. I really enjoyed her class and would take her again.
I don't know who is writing these other comments, but some are not true. If you don't know biology or even don't fully understand the basics, do not take this class. This prof makes it harder than it is. Don't get me wrong, she is a nice prof but can't teach the material. If you do plan on taking her watch out for her HARD test. NO TEST IS DROPPED!
Took her for lecture and her teaching is confusing. I would recommend another Prof for BSC. She is nice and available outside of class but her test are hard. She does activities with the class which is nice. However, if you really don't understand biology well than take another prof who can explain it better.
She's really nice, but make sure you are ready for a quiz everyday, she will give you a study guide of like 4 pages and the quiz only consists of like 5 questions.. seems to make it harder then really needed. And as far as projects she does really poor on being specific in what she wants.
Nice but nice won't give you the grade you need. You have to work for it but she makes it confusing. Good luck or run for the hills
She's very sweet and remote learning with her wasn't bad at all. There are lab reports and quizzes based on the lab reports. There is 2 group project that is a huge part of the grade. no practicals so that's a win and Overall if you keep great communication with her through email you'll be fine
I had this professor for BSC2011 and BSC2011L. Be ready to study all the time. Really pay attention in lecture. She is a fan of group classwork (we did every class) and group projects. It honestly felt like a high school class. Stay on top of your work. Just don't take her 8 am unless your a morning person
Honestly one of the best biology professors I have ever encountered, was really clear during her lectures, involved the whole class and went around to help those that need help individually. Her grading is very clear, based on participation, hw, projects and test. Test obviously are weighed heavier, but if you study the material the test aren't bad
You HAVE to read the book thoroughly to do well on tests as questions are very specific. Study guides are given, but are just a general idea of what you should study, but not specifically. Theres a group project which is very straightforward and classwork/participation activities everyday in class, so attendance matters. Very friendly and helpful.
This class consisted of 4 tests and Pearson homework. There is one group project and she provides study guides for each test. I would study off the book though there are more details in there that appear on the test. Try getting the book's test bank she gets most of her questions from there. She's awesome and very helpful, Good luck!
Honestly, I wish I didnt take her. She ignored my emails, her test had nothing to do with the study guide she gave us and all the extra activities in class she gives us was absolutely unnecessary. I was so fed up with this teacher by like the 3rd week of class. Shes nice, but nice is not going to get my degree.
Her tests are extremely difficult, and the homework/study guides/lectures are not helpful. She skims through the PowerPoints and teaches as if we already know the subject.. the only great thing is the test are weighed so low, maybe because she knows how majority fails them.. if she is your only option then take her, but if there is better, RUN
I would not take again. Nice but that doesnt help pass the class or learn anything. This rating is CAP...
I don't know who is giving this prof good rates but they are lying. Listen you are here to find a teacher to TEACH you biology not to waste your time with a teacher who is unorganized, does not know what she is talking about and who gives hard tests for no reason. Save yourself the trouble and look for someone else.
This teacher is so unorganized and gives hard tests for no reason. Look for another prof who can actually teach you biology. Youtube, a tutor, and a student from ANOTHER class taught me biology because this prof can not. Run for the hills!!!!!!
RUN AWAY FROM THIS PROF! Unless you have a Ph.D. already in biology, leave this prof for someone else. She is all over the place. The class actives make no sense and if you come from a foreign country or just coming back from a break from school, find another teacher who can TEACH BIOLOGY THE RIGHT WAY.
THIS LADY CAN NOT TEACH! I DO NOT RECOMMEND HER! NICE LADY BUT THIS NICE LADY IS SO UNORGANIZED. STUDY GIUDE DOES NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FOR YOU!!!!
THE RATINGS ARE CAP DO NOT TAKE HER PLEASE!!!!! NICE LADY BUT SHE DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO TEACH!!!
Doesn't know how to teach. You might as well just teach yourself from the textbook. Uses honor lock on all exams even when it was malfunctioning and is extremely hard on students. I use all the resources as much as possible and am still struggling. I use the ASC center for tutors, and am still struggling. Hate this teacher with a passion, the worst
Shes nice but thats about it. She talks extremely slow and is very unorganized. I feel like she doesnt even trust her own knowledge, a lot of misspeaking and second guessing. Does not teach very well either.
This teacher is rude and her study guides are no help. Literally her test are opposite from the study guide. Clearly all the good comments are the teacher putting them because she is not a good teacher. Save yourself the trouble and find a real and good teacher.
Had her for lecture and lab. There is participation activities in almost every class that count towards your grade so its best to not miss class. She is also an easy grader. As long as you do your work and put in effort you'll pass. The only thing I didn't like was that she assigned multiple group projects, but I would definitely take her again.
Shes a good teacher. she lectures a lot during class and requires you to participate during class with polls or other activities. homeworks were easy and quizzes werent so hard. I would recommend her if youre not great at science cuz she dumbs it down for you. shes very enthusiastic and super nice!
As long you attend class , do homework , do the extra credit you will be okay .She's really helpful and understanding with students
her test are impossible to pass, lots of online homework, no notes at all on any of the test. test are like 40 questions. i really worked hard to try n pass, i asked her if i should even stil try n she encouraged me 2 stay in the class the next day she slapped me with 9 zeros i just stopped showing up to the class. shes nice, but impossible 2 pass
She is very hands on, and will guide you through the experiments if you need help. She does give short quizzes every week based on the experiment, which totals to about 10 quizzes, but drops the lowest quiz grade. There's a study guide for those quizzes. She assigns about 2 group projects, and participating in labs does matter for a grade!
She does things in class to help you understand the lecture, and prepare for the exam. Although, the tests are more detailed/specific so I'd say go through the book, videos, and by the homework. All exams are multiple choice with about two short answer questions. She provides study guides. Assigns group projects and sometimes extra credit. No final.
Professor Nielsen is a wonderful teacher!!! She provides the extra credit opportunities for students but you have to try and grab the opportunities. Additionally, she is really caring. During class she would walk around the room to check on students individually to check if they comprehend the material. She is top tier...there I said it!
Let's start with her being super nice. BUT, she likes to read from a PowerPoint (I can do that at home), she doesn't trust her own knowledge. Her tests are almost impossible to get an A or even a B, my best advice is that you read the book and do the practice tests, for the rest, idk where this lady gets her questions from.
Professor Nielsen is genuinely passionate about the subject and engages every student in the class as well. She was kind and considerate in every aspect. Her exams are pretty much based on the outline she provides + the PowerPoint. Make sure that u pay attention to the activities and side projects you do in class. IT goes a long way!!
The course's "study guides" are not related to exams, and students have reported issues with links. The course's three assignments are due in the same week or just couple days apart, and the instructor blames the system for the issues. Despite years of teaching, the course's failure is unacceptable.
Professor Nielsen was a great lab professor! She goes by the lab manual and explains the information we are learning and how it can apply to the world around us. She takes the time to go around and check on everyone. Her weekly quizzes are simple just use the manual to review and you will do well in her class. I would take another class with her.
Good professor, easy assignments and a lot of in class group work
Really great professor. She teaches off PowerPoint and it matches the test/quizzes. Make it to class for useful information and a participation grade
Biology and mostly all science subjects are challenging, however, I was able to actually understand and comprehend concepts with Dr. Nielsen. She gives a variety of resources to excel in the class and the grades. If you want to actually learn and understand Biology in a comprehensive way, she does a great job at doing it
This course is very easy and the work is not difficult at all. You can easily go from module to module because the work is light. I would totally take this class again!
Professor Nielsen was great. Her lectures require you to participate and interact with your peers. She does visual activities that help you understand what is being taught. Like every course, this class requires you to read but everything is in the powerpoints. This class was not difficult, people just complain sometimes when they have to do work.
She's alright just wish bio lab quizzes weren't open responses...
The best Science teacher I've ever had. She helped me out so much and gave lots of time to make up work and also a gave a lot of extra credit assignments. 10 out of 10 would chose her again if given the chance.
She is the worst professor I've ever had, do not read at the good reviews she had. She will make me go through an entire semester for just one class before graduation because she accused me of cheating. She claimed that I was using a recording device because I was translating the questions in Spanish (my native language) while reading the question.
I feel like she is okay professor, she just makes exams a little harder than they should be, but at least provides extra credit and provide study guides so use them wisely! It's good to always communicate with her, she can be understanding as long u talk to her.
best bio prof. she is caring and respectful, she gets you to really understand the lecs, she will always want the best for you. her exams were tough but if you put in the work to study youll do great and love her and the topics. she's not an easy "a" but shes a great prof to get you an "a" thru effort. shes great.
best prof ever. she wants u to pass her class w knowledge nd gives great advice/feedback. v kind nd she gives pop quizzes first thing in lab (3-5q's) take her for lec and lab so you'll do great and come out with more knowledge than ever. labs were super fun and what you turn in is simple lab book q's and drawings from what you see thru microscope
great professor! I would take this professor again!
Professor Nielson was kind and approachable. Lectures were clear with helpful group activities. There was a lot of online and D2L homework. However, the exams were much harder than the class content, and many students struggled despite study guides and review sessions.
Online lab so not a lot of teaching. BUT she is very available through D2L email and the labster labs and other assignments are very easy she is a very easy grader. I only struggled with the quizzes since I wasnt in lecture. Heavy workload but norm.
Her tests were Timed and 40 questions long, and only showed one question at a time, meaning you'd have to choose between missing pts bc you moved on or waste time on a question you weren't sure on. She also doesn't do + grades, I had an A all semester working hard, but my final exam brought it down. to an 89.3 so I ended up with a B for this class.
Great prof. She is super reachable through D2L and is willing to work with you on a grade. There are a lot of extra credit oppourtunities on the exams but they are like 40 multiple choice exams that she does post a study guide for but you need to pay attention in lecture
If you don't have a religion, pick one and pray
To be fair this was her first time doing a session 3 class however most of the time she was all over the place and most topics had to be rushed through because she would loose track of time. HER TEST ARE PRETTY HEAVY most of her study guides had nothing do with the test 90% of the time. Just do all the hw and show up every class you will pass
Well-educated, but super strict. 5 proctored exams + a final exam. Weekly work is manageable, and there's extra credit. Online format isn't ideal if you learn better in person. Also uses hidden AI checkers, so be careful. If you took bio in high school recently, you'll be fine. Not a first-choice, but doable.
