He was verry helpful, and esay for a math teacher. I was able to have fun in the class. we never had homework to turn in, but we had a quiz every week.
His accent was thick and he talked quietly. If asked about a problem he will not explain it but just restates the problem. He sometimes assigned homework that wasn’t on the test. Not a good teacher to take unless you are very good at math.
Jared is a great teacher! He is very thorough and takes the neccessary time needed for those who need extra help. Math 90 goes really fast, and a new section is covered daily. He doesn't call on people for the answer, which is a relief. Help is always availiable if you ask him.
Very nice man. Exams tended to be much harder than review and quizes. Thick accent. Overall, average experience.
He handed out a project which was 4 math problems, worth 20% of the overall grade. He said we could talk with other classmates about it and we had a month to do it. It sounds like easy points, but nobody knew how to do any of it. Reviews and quizzes did not give enough preperation for exams. Very thick accent. Anyone who can get an A is a genius.
I *Loved* this class! Yes, he has a thick accent (He is from Nairobi) but he is understandable. He goes over all of the concepts better than any teacher I have ever had. I have always struggled just to pass math, this time I was one of the best students in the class. If you pay attention to him, it is easy to get a good grade. The project was easy.
Jared is my favorite math teacher!!!! He's really easy going and helps students when they need it. Sometimes he even reviews stuff from math 90 that some people may have forgotten and doesn't make you feel stupid in the process. Over all great teacher and I would highly recommend him! Just make sure you do your homework; he gives homework quizzes.
very good teacher very tough class he tries is best but there is a tone of stuff to cover in a short period of time
He got strong accent. Otherwise, this is such a good instructor. The quiz comes from hw and there's review for every exam. The content is neither easy nor challenge. Hard working leads to A.
Jared was awesome. He is very helpful if you are willing to put the work in. You can't just breeze by in this class but homework is not mandatory. However, you gotta do it in order to learn the math.
jared is a very nice teacher even though he speaks quietly and a thick accent it is so easy to pass the math class. he explains step by step if oyou dont get a certain question he will explain it very carefully and he wont make you feel stupid.
jared is a very nice teacher it is so easy to pass the math class. he explains step by step if oyou dont get a certain question he will explain it very carefully and he wont make you feel stupid.
He is a great teacher! I like his grading system. He does have an accent but you will get used to it very quickly=] If you do your homework, you will have no problem passing the quizes. The exams are not that hard. You just have to sudy. I would recomend him to anyone!
Nice Professor. Strong instruction. Honest and very well-mannered, pleasure to deal with.
I had Jared for two quarters and wish I could have him teaching the rest of my math courses because I can finally understand what is going on without having to kill myself! He is very organized, and he does have an accent, but that has nothing to do with math. I had a harder time understanding math teachers without an accent. Highly recommended!!
Very helpful. Has a bit of an accent, but once you get used to it he's not especially hard to understand. Occasionally seemed to misunderstand what students were asking him. Very polite, kind of reserved. Assigned homework doesn't need to be turned in, but there are weekly homework quizzes, so you're kind of screwed if you don't do it.
I took his differential equations. His is a good math teacher. He gives useful handouts and exams are generally based on examples he teaches in class. However, how he explains a theory is not clear and sometimes confusing. He does better in higher level math. If your planning to take his class, make sure you have a good foundation in math.
Took summer Precalc with Jared, and it was a very fast quarter. I learned alot really quickly. To keep up, all the homework MUST be done, and to prepare for tests there is a lot of studying. At the end of the class if you don't like your grade it certainly isn't Jared's fault. He works hard to make you understand.
Good teacher, explains well. If you don;t understand something he will explain again until you understand.
I love this man
This instructor doesn't require you to attend class everyday, but it's wise that you do come. It took me a week to feel comfortable with his accent. Eventhough you do not have to turn in homework, I STRONGLY recommend you work on the assigned problems. It will help you on the quiz and exams. Overall he's a really good math instructor.
This was my second time taking pre-cal. The first time was in high school and then I took it again as a refresher. He is an awesome teacher and makes all the concepts really clear and understandable.
Very organized. Hands out note sheets for each section being discussed in class. Quizzes based on the homework problems (which you don't have to turn in). Very smart instructor.
Hes great
Jared was by far the best math professor I have ever had. Seriously, this is a person who loves his job and it shows! If you have a chance definitely take one of his classes.
Jared was one of the best teachers I've ever had. He's extremely helpful. He can be kind of hard to understand at first because of him being from out of country, but he does his best to talk slowly and clearly. If you have a hard time understanding, just ask him to repeat himself and he will. I highly recommend him. I would take him every quarter i
Best math teacher I've had. Attendnace not manadatory, but there are group projects and weekly quizzes.
Mr. Abwawo is an awesome teacher. I took his class last year and totally enjoyed learning with him. Take his class! Promise you that his teaching style is much much better than Ferenchko's.
I have taken several classes with Jared, Math 99 and Math 96/140. He has an accent, so some people find him hard to understand, but if you are willing to listen he is an amazing teacher.
I hate math with a passion, never realized I was doing math with Jared, best math teacher I have ever had hands down! Never had to do one home work assignment because he was so clear during class. Take him if you can, easy grade but you will also learn everything you need to know as well!
I hated math and didn't know how I was going to get through higher level math classes until I took his class. I finally felt confident and homework was optional.
Does not really work with students to help them succeed
Jared is an excellent teacher if you are willing to learn the material. He does have an accent, but one should catch on and understand if they understand math terms. He sometimes uses examples as test problems,so dont take the examples lightly. Took Math 96 and 141 with him. Very disapointed that he wasnt teaching 142,hopefully i can get him for 15
The best math teacher ever! I would take every math class through him. If you have a question or a problem then he can give you examples of why it will work or not. Totally best math teacher ever.
Great teacher! Has an accent but you will get used to it. Explains things well. Needs to control the class more as they can get loud and disruptive but overall he is great! Easy work, tests and grading scale too :)
Jared is the best math teacher ever!! I barely come to class, unless it's a test day. The homework he assigns includes what will be on the quiz, so if you do homework, you've done quiz questions as well. I hope to take him next quarter for other classes :)
Great instructor. Lectures were clear and detailed. Took time to answer questions. Quiz questions were directly from the homework, so if you do your homework you have an understanding of quizz material. Tests were tough at times, but definitely doable. Would highly recommend this instructor.
Mr. Abwawo was a really great, fun math instructor! He was very helpful, and would slow down his lectures if needed. The only negative thing I really have to say about him is that if you have a hard time understanding different accents, be careful in his class; he has a very thick Kenyan accent, and is sometimes hard to understand...
Extremely good at reexplaining things in an easier manner. He always tries to make things easier for you. Also one of the few math teachers that can explain why its done one way and not another without me getting confused.
This instructor likes to work fast, so pay close attention and take notes. He is also very helpful and is willing to take the time necessary for you to learn a concept. He is also soft spoken with an accent, so sit as close to the front as you can to hear him clearly.
the best math instructor I have come across so far. Extremely happy, wholehearted, understanding teacher with a drive to inform his students. He made me like algebra!
Great math teacher. I actually re-learned a few things! Highly recommended.
Excellent teacher. Works at a pretty fast rate, which I loved. Tries to make things as simple as possible. Occasionally can be funny.
This is a great instructor, I did not do well in class because I do not perform well on tests and he grades solely on tests alone but he was kind and helpful. Has a strong accent but did not find that it affected my understanding of his teaching.
Very very organized. Class is very structured. Has an accent but makes up for it through lecture outline handouts and by a structured lesson plan. Gave me a solid understanding of the material. His tests are difficult and he expects you to know the material.
Best math teacher I have ever had. I learned a lot, and his grading was fair. The test were hard but I always felt prepared. He's very warm, approachable and wants his students to do well.
Best math professor I've ever had. Very clear on instructions, always willing to work with students. Class included quizzes on Fri, then instead of a quiz every 3 weeks was a test. There was grp work (quizzes) and a project. Home work was not collected, but the quizzes come directly from the homework. Do your homework.
This instructor is a machine. Treats you like a machine not a person. He teaches you to memorize everything. If you ask question he gives you chalk to write it on the board. He just repeats a script in class not teaching from knowledge. I dare you to ask him a question.
Mr. Abwawo is very nice but if you are not a good math student already and do not test well I would advise you take another teacher. Your grade is your tests and that didn't work out for me. I did have some trouble with his accent but he was great about it.
Pretty easy class. Your grade is entirely dependent on tests and quizzes but he goes everything else well. There is homework but it's entirely for your benefit - he doesn't grade or collect it. He writes lesson/problems on the board so a book isn't needed unless you want to do the homework.
The best math teacher I've ever had! He breaks things down so simply and then makes sure you comprehend the material. He's engaged with his students throughout the class, and he's always cheerful. Book is essential for homework, but not much else and this course is graded solely on attendance, participation, tests and exams.
I'm not that good at math so his class was difficult to me. He does not check homework so review is not part of the class. I think this class is for people who have no struggles with math. He's a good teacher but focuses mostly on the smart people. If you struggle at all with math I would suggest finding another teacher.
WORST TEACHER EVER! He doesn't let you know what your grade is, and every time he had a quiz, I felt prepared, but the questions were ones that he never went over in class. He also makes you buy a $140 book that you don't even use, makes you use Math XL, and I feel that I learned by myself, rather than him teaching the class.
He is tough but fair and the BEST math teach I have ever had. He is brilliant and if something is unclear he is always willing to help you until you understand. I highly recommend him.
Was a very helpful. At first it was a little difficult to understand him because of his thick accent but I got the hang of it. He did a very good job explaining the steps in problems. His handwriting on the whiteboard is VERY clear and neat. Because of his teaching and my hours of self study, I got a fantastic grade in my weakest subject.
Jared was an amazing instructor. I took him two quarters ago and would recommend him to anyone. Be sure to show up for class everyday, ask questions, whether during or after class and do the work every single day. If you fall behind you will be lost. But honestly, I hated math (and was always horrible at it) and he made me actually like it.
Jared was an awesome teacher, be sure to make attendance a priority if you don't want to get behind. Do your homework, you will do great on the quizzes. Not much homeworktough grader. Don't worry about the accent, it grows on u and before u know it, u won't hear it at all.
Seriously, avoid him. I love math, but this professor was not fair. He has huge accent, hard to understand. More than half of the students dropped the class. His exams are very different then what he is teaching in his lectures. When students asked him questions, he had NO idea how to answer.
Mr. Abwawo is the most brilliant and genuine math teacher I have ever had. His handwriting on the board is similar to a computer! It is so clear and he explains everything very well. Also, he is the kindest person I have met. I wish he taught Math 141 because I am holding all my future instructors to his standards and so far I am disappointed!
cant understand, cant or wont answer questions clearly (answers a completely unrelated question that was never mentioned). he doesnt say anything about what your doing he just says what he is doing as he works a problem with no explaination of any kind. do not take his class.
Since he is from Kenya, so his English is a bit diffucult to hear, but other than that, he is a easy going professor. He gives easy quizes and exams. Not much homework at all.
From a person who likes and is good at math, I thought his class was really easy. You get used to his accent. Homework is optional, but helpful for quizzes. He doesn't answer questions very clearly, so keep asking him if you don't understand something. His personality is quiet and gentle. He shows you different ways on how to approach math.
Smiles in class, will treat you like a machine outside of class. He is a biased grader, and tried to fail my exam until I pointed out I had the same answer as somebody else who recieved full credit. Has extreme difficulty answering questions, the accent doesn't help. Only thing good about the class was the extra handouts. Take him for lower math.
Mr. Abwawo is a great teacher and is very helpful. He is always in a good mood and makes math fun and interesting. He explains things in a way that makes remembering them easier. His tests are kind of tough but there are only two and the final. Quiz Q's come straight from the homework. Don't miss class. His accent is easy to understand.
Jared is the best. Very smart man who just wants everyone to love and understand math as much as he does. Explains concepts well and has a schedule that he sticks to . Don't skip his class because everything he covers is the only thing he tests on. If you don't understand, ask him to slow down or explain in a different way.
Jared is by far the best professor I've ever had. His class is what finally allowed me to "get" math. His explanations are clear as day and he is always smiling. He always seems like he is glad to be in class, which helps a ton. Just listen and do the homework problems because he uses those exact problems on all the quizzes. TAKE HIS CLASS! :)
He was an awesome person! Really nice guy-but his math final blindsided most of class. The class average was a 60% and it was so much harder than the class work too. There is no turn in homework either.
Lectures are clear and easy to understand, assigns homework but it's not checked or graded BUT the weekly quizzes are problems taken directly from the homework so it pays to just do it. Attendance isn't mandatory but his lectures are key. Willing to make adjustments to lectures and grading if it benefits majority of students. Wants you to learn.
I wish all math professors were as clear and concise when giving lectures. It is clear that he is very organized and plans lectures prior. This is really helpful as you have good examples to model homework after. Online program for homework was not required. He admits language barrier at beginning and makes effort to help students understand.
You will learn how to understand his accent with time but once he write it down on the board it makes sense. Eager and really nice.
Mr. Abwawo is a clearly concise professor. He knows when and how the students should study a subject, and he's not afraid to tailor the material to best suit the needs of the student. He's very straightforward and obviously cares a great deal about his profession. Solid teacher. Wonderful man.
Great teacher, would take him for all math coursed if I could. His accent is difficult at the beginning, but after a week or so it isn't a problem anymore. His lectures are very organized and easy to follow. He really wants the class to understand the material so he will spend as much time as he needs on certain sections. Would definitely recommend
Your grade in this class is based on tests, including the final and quizzes you have every week. HW not graded. quizzes are based on the homework due each week, he doesn't review homework in class. Is impersonable and very quiet. Very lecture based, new lecture/new material every day. Make sure you know how to solve all HW problems!!!
Likes to make sure the class is understanding the material and why you use certain formulas. He does have an accent but he knows it and if you need anything repeated he is happy too. He has a great sense of humor. Doesnt give alot of homework. Quiz questions are taken from the practice problems. Great handwriting easy to follow, fun class!
Jared was the best math instructor I have ever had in TCC. His accent can be hard to understand sometimes, but he can clarify what he was talking about. I have asked him a lot of questions and he was dedicated to answer them. I'm glad to take him again for Math 153. I wish I didn't make mistakes that caused my grade though.
Your first red flag should be that this teacher starts by complaining that students' grades from other Profs are too high. Abwawo doesn't seem to like or care about teaching at all. His quizzes are more about memorizing individual homework problems than concepts, and his lectures are mumbly, poorly-explained and one-sided affairs.
Nice professor, decent lectures. Organized when presenting his lectures. He does not like to stray off his agenda so don't ask questions regarding anything besides the topic he is discussing. His first exam was unexpectedly difficult. No one saw that coming. Also, hes very strict on notation but hes right.
I received a B- in that class, doing every homework problem and more, studying every day up until tests, going to the MARC 3-4 times a week, staying after and asking questions, in class every day of the quarter, noting every note he wrote on the board. The class average was a 59 out of 100 on the final. This class is not set up for success.
His accent is something you can get used to. Do the homework, pay attention in class and ask him to clarify stuff you find difficult. He'll repeat it a million times if he has to. He's always smiling, always on time and his handwriting is on point (like seriously amazing).
I got many bad impressions from him. I asked him about a quiz and the conversation ended with him threatening to take points away. Horrible person to talk to after class. makes you feel like your wasting his time. Not a bad teacher in class. it was a open environment to ask questions and he did answer, not always clear. Tests are not like homework.
This guy is scary to talk to during office hours. homework was basically the quiz's. What sucks is that the midterm and exams are totally different from what is taught in class and assigned in the HW. Half the class failed he class. Not a horrible teacher, but it was hard to understand him.
Alright people, here's the low-down. He's a genuine teacher. Sit upfront, because you have a better time understanding him. Key to success : Do the homework. As long as you are in class and paying attention, the homework is a breeze, you can get a weeks worth done in an hour and a half. Go to the MARC before class the day of the quiz. You'll do gr8
Pros: Very knowledgeable. Gives handouts to practice and the answers are discussed in class. Questions on the quiz are similar to the practice problems. Cons: Grades basically only come from quizzes. Has an accent and unique speaking style. Very picky grader. Even the slightest mistake can cost 5 - 10 % of the grade even if the answer is right.
This professor is Great. I will definitely be attending his next level class. Homework does not need to be turned in but helps to do because he only gives you problems that will be on the quizzes. He doesn't have you come up to the board because he does at least 5 examples for every unit and will answer any questions that you have while going over
I do not recommend this guy. If you are bad at math and get most of your points from attendance and homework I would not take this guy. He only grades tests and group work. Also I could barely understand what he was saying half the time.
He is a nice teacher, but his exams were so HARD. The exams were way beyond what he taught in class and we did in the homework. Sadly, he grades heavily on the exams, so it is hard to get a good grade from his class. No extra credits at all.
Tough instructor. No extra credits, no curves on any exams. You either know it very well or you don't. Lectures do not prepare you for what's to come on the exams. Quizzes and homework problems nowhere near the level of his exams. Good luck.
The professor has a very thick accent and can be very hard to understand. He is an easy grader but there are only a few quizzes and only two exams in the overall class. So if you want to pass, you'd have to score really well on the quizzes and exams. Gives homework questions but homework isn't graded or reviewed in class.
Sad that people comment about his accent. Its not hard to understand at all. He really tries to make sure everyone understands the foundations that will be applied in further math classes. He's willing to answer questions and explain in a variety of ways. He does quizzes almost every week and 3-4 tests throughout the quarter.
Jared is a really nice, friendly guy. His lectures are clear, organized, and easy to follow. However, the class grade consists of only 3 exams and 5 weekly quizzes. The quizzes are taken directly from the homework, so as long as you do the homework you're fine. The exam difficulty surpasses the difficulty of problems explained in class.
A great teacher!
This professor will simplify everything included in the course material, plus he's super organized. I strongly recommend taking this kina-of-tough class with him.
Im in his Math 095 class and it was the worst mistake ever. Hes a really nice guy, but he ONLY grades quizzes and exams so if youre bad at tests this is not the class for you. Quizzes every week and if you do bad on one exam your grade will be screwed. He expects you to remember every last detail and doesnt give any extra credit or help.
If you go to class everyday and actually pay attention, study for the quizzes that he assigns every week its easy. He doesnt assign too much work. Very manageable class.
If you go to class everyday and actually pay attention, study for the quizzes that he assigns every week its easy. He doesnt assign too much work. His tests are exactly from the homework. Very manageable class
Jared is very organized which I really appreciate. He is very clear about what is going to be studied each lecture with easy to follow handouts and examples which he explains thoroughly. Attendance and homework are not mandatory, but if you don't attend or practice the homework you'll have a VERY hard time. Wish there was more interaction in class
Good luck on the homework quizzes and exams. That's all he grades.
Alright so here's the deal. Jared's a really great guy, but his way of teaching is flawed. It's only lectures, quizzes and exams in his class. He's also from Kenya, so he has a thick accent . He has lecture guides that do not pertain to the homework and the quizzes and exams don't match the lecture guides or homework. Great guy, bad teacher.
Fantastic!
Jared is the worst math teacher I have had since I first started attending TCC a year ago. He puts little effort into actually teaching you. He covers everything you need to know in the class very briefly before moving on to the next topic. If you struggle in math at all, I do not recommend this man. As a person he is very nice though.
Hes not good at clarifying questions. He tries to cover a lot of material in the quarter, and doesnt leave room for much review. The quizzes are exactly the same as the homework. Befriend someone in class who knows the material or go to the Marc. A lot of it you will have to learn on your own. The tests were fairly easy if you understand the hmwk
His lectures are extremely clear, and he gives lecture guides out that have example problems on them which I found very helpful. There are weekly quizzes and the problems for those are selected from the homework. Also, he moves at a slow pace. He does not use the online component only the textbook which makes the class less expensive.
Professor Abwawo is an excellent math teacher. Lectures were very clear & organized. The class was not about memorizing patterns or groupwork-- it was about understanding the concepts. Rather than "dumb it down", he encouraged students to rise to the challenges. W/the prerequisite skills (essential!) and hard work, it's a very rewarding course.
This class is for those who learn independently. If your someone who understands simple algebraic functions and equations (some are a bit more difficult), Jared is your Professor. If your the kind of student who comes to class to be "taught" the material, maybe look elsewhere. He "TELLS" is as it is, and doesn't break it down further than the basic
This professor makes it unnecessarily difficult for even students with an aptitude for math to succeed. One of the first things he mentioned to our class on the first day if the quarter was about students complaining, and countless times he felt the need to reassure the class that he was not trying to take away any points or work against anyone.
Hands down lazier than any teacher I've ever come across/heard of. Instead of turn-in homework, he has quizzes once a week with ridiculous grading requirements such as showing very specific pieces of work (WORK SHOWN/NOT ANSWERS) to prove that answers weren't copied from book practice problems, all because he won't even SEARCH for new quiz problems
He is very passionate about mathematics, and treats his students with respect and empathy. I am a student who has always struggled a lot in math classes, and I actually enjoyed this class! He does an awesome job at making math accessible and not intimidating.
He is a very nice professor and is very smart. But he is not the best educator. He lacks communication skills not because of his accent, but in the way he presents the material. The homework he assignments are easy, the quizzes and tests are made a lot harder. Even gifted math students will be challenged by his style of teaching.
If you are taking calculus to learn the subject in-depth, then take Jared's . He is amazing at taking many math concepts and breaking them down into simple, digestible lectures and assignments. If you are taking a class for just credit, then stay away; Jared's classes' will require you to actively understand the logic of math.
I took his class during the summer, but he is difficult anyway. He will mention a concept once in class, have it not appear on the homework, then test on it. On the second quiz we had to let him know, but at least he compromised by making that question a bonus question. He is great if you failed Calc b4 and need a better grade. First timers? No.
He's crystal clear during lectures, his class made me love math. Jared is kind of a genius and I recommend taking his math 147 class or higher. He also knows like five languages and is hilarious.
Request the format of how answers should be written down, because he marks off points for very small formatting concerns he does not tell you about prior to turning in homework or exams. You can have the answer right and the supporting work, but add too much explanation and you will lose points even if the tutoring center verifies your answer.
He's a good lecturer but can be a little quiet so prepare to sit in the front of the classroom. The whole class was pretty easy but the final project was insanely difficult! The questions on the final project felt way beyond what we were taught in class. In the end it was doable however prepare to ask for help. The rest of the course was easy.
Jared was not doing any lectures so you were mainly reading out of the book. His accent is extremely strong. He does office hours . Don't skip his written weekly assignments. I missed one and it affected my grade a lot. Just do the work and study and GO TO HIM FOR HELP.
I took this class during COVID, so the option to ask a question during a lecture wasnt there. But whenever I e-mailed him a question, he got back to me very fast and set up a time to meet privately to go over anything I had trouble with.
Zero lectures, zero teaching, learn from the weekly readings and mini video tutorials he assigns (He just links someone else's Youtube videos). On top of that the problems on HW/Exams aren't hard. I feel like I'm learning nothing. I feel cheated out of any quality education in what should be a difficult topic. At least I get my credits I guess.
Lazy, doesn't lecture. Just uses other people's youtube videos and posts textbook readings. Have fun teaching yourself.
I don't know why he's getting paid. He links youtube videos that aren't even his and assigns homework on Cengage. That's all you'll do all quarter along with a few math written assignments. It's easy but he does absolutely nothing to teach.
I took him for MATH&141. Oh boy it was really hard getting started, he didn't post lectures, only links to youtube videos and a lot of the times those videos didn't cover anything the HW was about. Most of his examples for lectures came directly from the book. He expects you to READ the book. This class was tough, you will be googling A LOT.
gave me a zero on an assignment for not submitting the work on a separate piece of paper when I showed all the work on the actual hand out I PRINTED which had plenty of room, don't take his class if you want to learn anything he just throws homework at you and makes you fend for yourself definitely taking advantage of online and gives no feedback
I struggled in this class. All he does is assign cengage homework and you learn out of a textbook. He started making "lecture" videos where he solves problems but he basically just assumes you already know what you're doing so it doesn't help much. He doesn't give good feedback on tests or give an answer key.
Prof. Abwawo was helpful and mostly understanding for needing an extension. If you have a decent handle on math already this class is a breeze. Read the book, watch the lectures, look at the notes and you should be fine. He doesn't give very great feedback so you have to correct mistakes on own. Spend some time learning the mat. and the hw is easy.
Professor Jared Abwawo did a really good job as a Math& 141 professor. In his lectures, he provides an online paper after getting introduced to each chapter along with a video to go over it. For homework, it's usually on web assign after learning a chapter of work, and some written assignments at the end of the week.
I liked this professor. He provided the tools to be successful in his course and gave good feedback on tests.
The class itself isn't necessarily hard but the professor doesn't teach whatsoever, if you want to pass you have to self-study and learn the material yourself. All the assignments are online, if you get it wrong there is no feedback to learn your mistakes. There is no extra credit for this course either. As long as you put in effort you should pass
He only grades 1 hw assignment per week but don't be fooled, they can be very difficult so make sure to do the recommended practice problems and READ THE BOOK. The book is your best friend, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. If you don't understand it, he provides recorded lectures, youtube and office hours. Use them. And READ THE BOOK.
Doesn't even teach just tells you to read the textbook. Your basically teaching yourself calculus and when you fail the exams its your fault you didn't teach yourself correctly. At most the textbook goes over the basics but the exams he gives are much harder than what you get in the textbook. Its like he doesn't want you to pass.
I usually excel in math courses, but this was extremely difficult for me. The Professor does NOT have good lectures, and you are basically teaching yourself from the book and google. It was the lowest grade I have ever received, and I attended office hours (not very helpful), got tutoring from the MARC, and double-checked all of my homework.
Awful, referred everyone to a textbook when they asked questions, lectures not very helpful, and he doesn't lay out clear criteria for grading handwritten worksheets. Originally took this class because it was the only online option but I had such a hard time with Prof. Abwawo that I switched my schedule around completely so I could go in person.
He never gave clear grading criteria, I stayed in a gc with people that had to take the class because of schedule reasons and many of them hated the class because he just refers to the textbook. Get ready to teach yourself the class cause he was never any help to me at all.
The worst teacher I have ever had.His assignments do not reflect the lectures he has posted.Lectures are easy youtube problems. His weekly homework is really hard and is nothing like the videos he has posted. Tests are not based on HW/Lecture, Tests are really hard.
I took MATH238 online, a lot of his lecture notes are very bare-bones. The videos helped a lot, however, the homework is pretty difficult. The test are easier than the homework, thankfully. If you are good at pattern recognition and have a solid Calc 2 basis, then the class if fairly easy. I was able to the homework in about 2-3 hours for each one.
I have never dealt with a teacher less proactive then him He was very unwilling to work and help in office hours If you know the subject that does not matter because you will barely pass He grades about the littlest of things it does not matter if you did everything right if you forgot one negative you got half points BAD TEACHER I WOULD NEVER TAKE
This class was online, he expects you to know how to do everything yourself. No recorded lectures, no zooms, no feedback on assignments or tests (just marks them wrong). You are teaching yourself the material, when you ask for help he says get a tutor. Do not recommend taking this class at all.
Mr. Jared Abwawo cares about his students. He knows what he is talking about. Listen! Dont miss class!
He cares about his students. Dont miss class and read the textbook!
A calm excellent headed Teacher, he understands and listens and reads students' faces to see if they are following the lesson back to back.
Good lectures, rambles on a lot. Only one hw assignment a week and 3 tests in total. need to do well in everything to end with a good grade
Very good overall. Knows what he is talking about and answers questions very well. Excited to teach and friendly. Four homework problems per week. Likes to put difficult integrals in homework, but not on tests. Tests are timed and timing is pretty tight, but problems are much easier than homework.
The entirety of this class is taught via 2-5 page pdfs and youtube videos made by other people. Grading is vague so don't expect to get told what you did wrong past a circle on an answer and maybe a question mark
Tough grader, exams are deceiving says one thing in class about a test and completely blindsides the class. He is at least respectful and kind but is too strict and offers little feedback on what you did wrong. Don't take his classes unless you can learn with minimal instruction and high expectations.
Tough professor, but engaging lectures. Textbook and Unstuck study were key for success. Attend class, do the work, and you can get a solid grade.
Never enjoyed a math class because of the teacher, but Mr. Abwawo is great! He always made sense in his lectures and the tests were very easy, final was more difficult. Also always sticks to his office hours! All tests online are open book, so i'd recommend taking online.
If you can avoid it, don't take this class. There was so little information linked outside of the textbook, and he tested heavily on things that were not covered in depth if at all in the materials. When grading assignments, the professor would not explain what you did wrong, he would just circle it or cross it out in red.
Abwawo made me really care about math he was caring and passionate and an amazing teacher. Best math teacher Ive ever had. However, your grade solely depends on midterms and the final so if you are not good at tests fair warning. But he will try very hard to help you and prepare you for these tests just know that the course moves very fast
Loved his class and was very friendly to students. Answered anything he was asked.
I took his Precalculus I online and it was a good class! Pretty average workload, which is ideal for an online class. 2-3 assignments a week and 3 exams throughout the quarter. I felt that I had the resources to learn the material without having any on campus meetings. I recommend for a manageable, predictable class!
Despite classes being online, he was nice enough to show me what I did wrong on the exams. I wish he gave extra credit opportunities that could've helped me. I also didn't like that most of the information was from either YouTube videos or long, non-condensed textbook pages. I could have studied better, but I don't think he was the best fit for me
I love Prof. Abwawo. Whole course was easy to follow with 2 assignments/wk. Three exams, very easy grading (wrong formula -> partial credit sometimes). Wanted feedback but couldn't come to office hours yet he emailed back with tons of advice. Book+Videos aren't good, use blackpenredpen. Forum was nice, one dude answered everyones questions (MVP!).
The class averages were absolutely horrible, mid term #1 average was 14.5/45, mid term #2 was 26.3/45 and the final average was 33.7/100. The highest grade for the final was an 80%. I would guess most of the class failed. I do not recommend this professor for anyone that math doesn't come easily.
