He's a really nice guy that is relatively new to teaching (he seems pretty young). He sometimes gets confused, but it's all good. He lets you drop a bunch of low scores so you do pretty good even if you score low on certain things here and there. He's extremely casual/easy going. I recommend him!

this teacher is AMAZING! math has always been m worst subject and this was actually the first math class where i was able to understand every concept and do well! He gives you sooo many resources to use on the quizes and tests and is very clear about what to expect. The homework can be a lot at times but it ALL relates exaclty to his tests! A++++++
I really liked Professor Hersh. He's really young so he's different than most math teachers but i thought he did a very good job. He drops a lot of low scores (midterms, quizzes AND hw) so it's pretty easy to do well in his class, and his tests are very short, only about 10 probs, but usually pretty fair. i recommend this teacher.
I thoroughly enjoyed his class, and recommend him with confidence. He is well prepared and helpful. One of the best Math teachers I have ever had.
Great teacher. Really nice and teaching style is easy to understand. His tests are hard, but if you put in your effort it pays off. I understand calculus so much better after his class
Hilarious teacher. Really makes math fun. Was very helpful and made lectures extremely easy to comprehend. Highly recommend him!
Makes math fun. He is very helpful. I had tons of questions after class and he always stayed to help me. The tests were a little tough, but fair. I would highly recommend him
Hersh didn't answer questions, he kinda of brushed them off. The tests were nothing like the homework or the study guide. TONS of homework, and the class is very fast paced.
He is the teacher for Math 160
TAKE MATH WITH HERSH. He is a great teacher; hands out detailed notes on the lectures and explains everything with great detail. You cannot ask for a better math teacher
BORING TEACHER. gets so confused so fast. Not the most helpful but tries to be enthusatic. Made me dread coming to class. Told me to move down 1 level because I failed 1 test. Discouraging and annoying.
Needs to be corrected more than other teachers. Testing and coursework is good, but the teaching atmosphere is a little off. Skips steps in a problem the class doesn't know, just to have to go back at the end to explain what he did. Maybe its just the class, but still seems like a waste of time, and he confuses the students.
He is the best teacher ever! he lets you use not cards on all of your test and on the final. He gives out printed and detailed notes, so your basically never writing. Its super easy to understand. also hes fun and funny. not a prick. you want to take him. he is amazing. the only thing he is stricked on is no cell phones, but you can getaway with it
Take, take, take!!! I hadn't taken a math class for two years and was in no way interested in it. Hersh made me actually like math instead of dreading doing homework. He has 4 exams and weekly quizzes that you will get A's on as long as you do homework. He's also an easy grader and makes cute jokes from time to time. Take himmmm
Jared doesn't hand hold, but if you're willing to put in the work and do what he says, he's the best you could ask for. His teaching is really clear and helpful - not sure what the person two slots below me is talking about.
Thank God he replaced Elizabeth. Otherwise, I wouldn't know the difference between good and not so good teacher. He is very to the point, helpful. Doesn't give any irrelevant theory, to make this difficult classe even more confusing. My grades drastically improved with him. Take him if you can :)
This is coming from someone who HATED math. Jared is the BEST math instructor you will EVER have. You'll not want to take math with another professor again. He has unique teaching methods, hands out notes for every section. If you do your homework, you will succeed & if you show up & show effort he notices. Added bonus, his personality is A+++!
I hate math, and Jared is the best math teacher I have ever had. He doesn't assume everyone knows everything. He is very clear about what he is teaching. I am usually so bad at math, but Jared has really helped me. HE is also really funny
Jared is a very helpfull teacher! not easy by any means , but if your willing to put in time and go to his office hours to clear up questions then you will do just fine! He wants to help but you need to show that you care. Hard course but he is very clear!! Take him if possible!

hes ight... better than most teachers but if u see rating for easier teacher go w. them.. and js do ur learning in the math lab
An amazing guy, and usually pretty funny. He made a few mistakes here and there but overall he is very clear and I felt prepared for every exam. I ended up doing insanely well in the class just by doing the homework and STUDYING for the quizzes. Take J-Hersh, hes a great guy.
I tried taking calculus twice before and really struggled. I took it from Jared and got an A. Not only that, but I felt like I really understood the material for the first time. He makes things very clear and easy to understand. I feel totally ready to go on to the next math class. One of the best teachers i've had at SBCC! Take his class!!
Jared is very prepared. brings notes and focuses on material that is important. Welcomes any questions during lectures if you have any problems. Willing to work with every student. Awesome Proffesor
Emersion Class 107 /120 is the best thing i've done for myself at SBCC. This teacher is top-notch. I've failed many math classes at sbcc, especially 107, 2 times before. I've decided to do the emersion class and the pace, easiness, and 1-on-1 student steacher interaction makes this the best part of the class. You will not regreat it.
very good teacher great outlines of lectures..goes step by step to help you understand each problem naturally!
Jared is a fun professor and the layout of his lecture notes are very helpful and make it so much easier to just get right into the topic.
One of the best math teachers I have ever had. He loves his job and will help you with your questions. Its a math class make sure to do all the homework on time!
I had Hersh for Math 160 a couple of years ago and he is easily one of the best math professors I have ever had. I have since transferred to UCLA and taken at least 5 more math classes and still haven't found a teacher who was as clear, helpful, and enthusiastic as Hersh. Really wonderful teacher!
I took Jared for LC 110/120. I hated math and always had but he made my transition to college easier. It is a hard class and requires hard work but if your willing to do homework daily, daily quizzes and study, you will do well. Hard work pays off! Take him. I never missed a class because I wanted to learn( and he covers around 3 sections per day)
I hated math all my life. Jared provides packets for the lectures which provides clarity. his daily quizzes test you on the hw. Showing him respect and asking for help when you need it are essential. Don't be afraid to ask questions. I got the first A in Math because of him, I strongly recommend Jared Hersh.
I didnt' like him. He doesn't go step by step in a problem because he expects you to already know the stuff. He also comes off cocking and annoying. The only good thing I can honestly say about him is that he doesn't assign that much homework.
Great teacher! I hated math before taking his calculus 1 class, and now I really understand and like it! Take this teacher if you have the chance!
He assigns homework but it does not count against you if you don't do it. Also on tests and quizzes even if you end up with the wrong answer but understand the concept he still gives most of the points. Overall he is a great teacher and actually made me enjoy calculus
Pretty good teacher. A couple of short quizzes every week along with a little homework each night on Aleks. If you show you know the material, he wont mark you down for missing assignments online. Overall great teacher. If you want a good grade and to actually learn something, I recommend taking his class.
Of all the math teachers I've had, he is by far one of the most helpful and understanding. He uses various methods to keep students interested, and the class really bonded well with each other and the teacher - which says a lot. He does a good job explaining the material and is honest about what you need to know and what is just "interesting."
Best math teacher I have ever had- I had to retake this class (different teacher the first time) and was worried about how well I would do in his class- WOW. I ended up with a B+ in the class, coming from a D previously- I certainly credit him.
I loved math with Hersh! His lectures are concise and very understandable, and his classwork packet helps to get extra practice on the material. He's a fair grader and will give partial points if you at least try to work out the problem. Math seemed like a breeze when I took him for Calculus! I will definitely retake him if I have the opportunity.
Best math teacher ever. Coolest guy you'll meet. I've never met a man with such a love for cats, but no ability to draw them. Take his class!
Awesome teacher. Keeps class fun and has good sense of humor. Very available for outside help and doesn't make you feel like your wasting his time. That's huge for me. If you like math, he's your guy.
Jared is a great teacher. He explains everything thoroughly and helps you out when needed. His attitude is always good and he tries to make the class fun (even with cheesy jokes).
Jared makes math seem extremely simple. As someone who has struggled my whole life with math, I appreciate this! If you go to class and pay attention-you're solid. He has you practice what he is talking about immediately so if you have any questions ask right then and there, he will never make you feel stupid! If you struggle with math, take him!!
Hands down, greatest teacher i have ever encountered. Amazing professor. Clear, fair, funny, direct, helpful and friendly !!
AMAZING! If you have a chance take his 137& 138 class. He is the only teacher I have ever had who could make a 9 unit math class fun
Jared is a great teacher! Quizzes everyday but you only turn them in if you think they will help your grade, he helps you review for tests and provides tones of worksheets so you can do extra practice. Hw is not mandatory and he has a pretty laid back personality. Highly recommend taking him!
Jared is by far the best math teacher I have ever come across. He is dedicated and very smart. He made the information very clear and he made even the hardest sections seem simple. I enjoyed his class and wish he taught my next math class.
All i have to say is that he is the teacher ever! Math seems so easy when he explains! Homework is optional but it helps your grade! Attending is mandatory because he gives little quizzes everyday, he seems to love what he does! Book is necessary for hw! But you're not going to need it if you put attention in class. I TOTALLY RECOMMENDED..
He doesn't tell you when your exams are until a week before. More often than not he will make a mistake in one of the packets he gives you. You have a quiz every time class meets. He often leaves to go get food and will readily call out a student who isn't listening.
Jared is an INCREDIBLE teacher. Hadn't taken a math class in years and struggled to assess into this level. It's a 9-unit class so you'll have a lot of work to do, but you're doing a years worth in a semester. Makes math easier to understand and always willing to help. I honestly enjoy math now. By far one of the best teachers I've had. TAKE HIM!!
Great math teacher! He explains everything very thoroughly and will walk around giving individual help to anyone who needs it. Pop quizzes can be taken with a partner- that's super helpful. He gives packets of the chapters so you don't have to spend time taking notes during lecture and in case you miss anything he uploads everything to moodle.
Jared is an awesome math teacher! I haven't taken a math class since 1995. I was never the best at math, so I wanted to take a refresher course. I don't hate math anymore!! I don't know if it's because I'm older and want to learn, but I love coming to class. I would highly recommend taking his class. I'm bummed I can't take him for 107.
Prof. Hersh is a fantastic individual. He is willing to put in the extra effort for those students who ask for it. Very straightforward class (it's math....) Ask questions if you get confused.
Takes time to explain concepts as fully as possible to appeal to all different kinds of learners. Fair exams, awesome sense of humor and all round just great experience.
I was a math-phobe before attending SBCC, now I have two degrees in both math and physics. The reason is because of professors like Hersh. He's one of the professors I remember the most from my time at SBCC. He's very helpful, clear and passionate about what he teaches. If you have the opportunity to take a class with him I highly recommend it.
I loved him. He is the best math teacher I've ever had.
One of my favourite math teachers. Take his class, you won't regret it. If you ever need help Jared is always there for support. Expect to do homework.
I have NEVER received an A in a math class, and in this class, I did. He is clear cut, explains it if you need it, and is really good at explaining. He can seem kind of strict, but it's for a reason. If you go to class, do the homework (which you do get credit for and it's a huge help for tests), the work pays off.
Very clear and understandable, class is well designed. Lots of homework but his tests are directly reflected, no surprises on what will be on the test. Fair grader and helpful in noticing where you slip up. Best math teacher so far, show up and youll get it.
Hands out notes for each chapter and fills them in during class. He is very clear with his work, takes questions very well. You'll pass this class with ease and be bored during some lectures because he's so clear. 3 tests, daily quiz, daily homework, 1 final. Quizzes and homework dropped if you do better on the test, final replaces lowest test.
amazing professor if you get the chance to take him drop everything and TAKE HIM!!!!!!!! He is understanding, cute, funny, SMART. He really knows what he is talking about and is a really nice grader! LOVE YOU JARED!!!!!!!! also do your hw thoroughly because he actually grades it and gives you feedback!
Jared Hersh is a rare gem on this campus. His lectures are enjoyable and clear. He is very organized and all of his handouts (including notes) are posted online. I would totally take him again, no questions asked.
Professor Hersh is very clear about what he wants you to learn. He gives you lots of helpful packets that contain the info that's on the test. He is very matter of fact, and not that sympathetic if you miss class. He conveys the information very well though. 10/10 would recommend.
Makes the class run smoothly. Gives you printed notes to follow along with, and clear dates set for quizzes and tests. He also gives you a chance to replace a bad quiz grade with the same percentage you received on the test, if you did better. This goes for most of the work you turn in. Clear with the students about what he expects. I enjoyed him!
Taking the combo class was difficult, but extremely doable. He teaches in a very straight forward manner, which is how I learn. He prints out the notes and goes through them with you. He is very smart and sometimes jokes can go over his head, but he is a great teacher and I honestly wouldn't have taken the combo class with another professor.
If you are looking for an easy A Jared is not your guy. You must attend class, pay attention, and do ALL the homework and class work. With that being said he is an awesome professor. The way he teaches is simple and to the point. He is also always willing to help during office hours and takes questions during lectures.
MATH107/137/138 Jared Hersh is by far the best professor/teacher I have had. He cares about his students, he gives clear grading criteria, he gives great feedback, and his lectures are well set up. Students in my class only have positive things to say about him, even when we are outside of class. I would recommend his class for any of my friends.
Jared is a great professor. He makes it clear what to expect in his class. All of his note packets are great and the classwork/homework given is very helpful. He teaches the material well and will gladly help you if you're stuck. Overall, you should pass the class easily as everything is laid out for you.
Makes a great deal of mistakes (handouts/during class) and doesn't fix until a student points them out. He shows favoritism to students who have taken the course previously. Basically "he's that math nerd" who is doing his homework, in front of you, on a projector. He could care less if you are succeed, that's not a teacher, that is arrogance.
This professor gives a great deal of homework, which is easy enough to do since he will provide the odd number problems. Meaning, the book will provide the answer so you can figure them out on your own. The problem is none of them are extremely time consuming and none of them on the test, therefore, they will not provide you with for tests. Beware!
This professor gives a great deal of homework, which is easy enough to do since he will provide the odd number problems, meaning, the book will provide the answers. The problem is the homework is extremely time consuming and none of them will help you when you go to take the test. Beware!
Jared Hersh is a really amazing professor! Math is not my strong suit but his class spelled everything out for you. He has fill-in notes for his students and goes in-depth on every topic. He is always there to answer your questions. His class taught me so much even though it was review for me. (you don't have to do the homework, testsreplacelowgrade
A really great teacher. He ALWAYS responds to emails and is always willing to go further in depth on the concepts in this lectures and on the homework. He responds to emails in a timely manner but plan on getting a response in the middle of the night. Overall 11/10 experience.
overall worst teacher I had this semester. little to no help whatsoever. Him being hard on us wasn't that bad, but the fact that he made it hard to understand and follow his class was frustrating.
He is a good teacher and does try his best to help. He is a fair grader and I am terrible at math. Me passing is nothing short a miracle between him and my tutor. However, it was a lot of homework. Although it is not mandatory, you will find that it is helpful. Don't wait until the last minute to do things, you will be overwhelmed.
Alongside 137C, this was a relatively easy course! There's a decent amount of classwork, nothing too crazy. Plenty of prep for every exam (all unproctored), but the final is deceptively hard lol. Prof seems really sweet, and provided plenty of note sheets + video explanations. Put in your fair share of hard work and you'll do great!
Lectures are on YouTube which make it easy. Get ready to print! I bought the textbook but honestly didn't need to. He's a nice guy who clearly loves math but was reasonable with his expectations about our love (or lack-there-of) of math. It's easy to get in touch with him, meet with him on zoom if you have questions throughout the semester.
lot's of homework. his online video lectures are long and difficult to pay attention to imo. textbook was not mandatory. he gives multiple packets for every unit, due dates are kind of weird imo, assignments were not due on a weekly basis, sometimes it was a Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, etc. also went to tutoring for this class but it was still hard
Don't. I was shocked when I took him and realized how bad of a professor he is because his reviews said otherwise. Assigns 2 packets of hw with 20 pages in each, You only have a day or two to complete. He claimed I was academically dishonest on two of my tests which was not the case. A horrible professor. He's the reason I had to switch my major
If you are planning on taking this course with this professor, I would advise not to. My experience in his online class was very stressful. There were many lectures that went along with several units of classwork that was due within a few days after being assigned. If you don't do the work his way, you will be accused of academic dishonesty...
I'm very surprised at all the negative remote reviews. I attended his class in person. Hersh was the best math teacher I've ever had. Yes there is a lot of homework. Yes, it's a hard class. The handout notes are like gold. Everything led to another in ways that made sense. I'm not sure I could have learned as much with someone else. Recommended.
Jared Hersh was a great professor, perfect for Math 149, which is the combo course. There are a lot of exams and quizzes. The homework is not graded, and neither are the quizzes; the only grades that matter are the exams. The quizzes are used to boost exam grades. There is nothing allowed for quizzes and exams besides a calculator.
Terrible teacher. Reads straight out of the textbook for lectures. Gives awful practice exams - (gives you types if problems that are not on the exam)
the best professor for math. his notes are amazing and if you pay attention you will learn so much.
I took this class for summer school. It wasn't the easiest class, but if you pay attention to the lectures the tests are easier than the homework in my opinion. He was accommodating over zoom if you needed help. One of the best teachers I have had at SBCC.
Don't take this teacher. He expects you to know everything. Did not help when i asked.
Calc 150 is definitely not easy and Hersh's class is complete lecture style. Grading is based solely off tests with maybe like 10% homework grade. He was not a bad professor nor was the class bad, but the lectures are very boring and it is a lot of sitting and listening. That being said, study, and work very hard, and it's possible to get an A+
do not take this professor!!!! so much homework, boring teaching style, and doesn't understand that his students have a life outside of his class. selfish and does everything in his best interest rather than his students. not sure why he has such a high rating, avoid at all costs!!!
Took over summer. Idk why he has so many neg. reviews but he's a good professor. Exams are exactly like the homework. Super easy class. Highly recommend him for an easy A. If you're not good at math, obvi you're going to struggle but this class is easy and you can always watch other youtube videos if you don't understand his lecture vids.
explained the material really well
