Very prepared and energetic. Good writer - good teacher. Large number of examples and good teaching material. My only criticism is his syllabus is arcane and in need of an overhaul - for clarity's sake.
GREAT INSTRUCTOR!!! Easy to communicate with and work with;very willing to accomodate as long as you aren't taking advantage of him. GREAT TALENT in writing and genuinely enthusiastic.
Very helpful and his passion for writing is infectious.
awesome teacher
If you read the material and do assignments you will have no trouble being successful in his class. He's got a dorky sense of humor and gives great feedback to help strengthen writing skills.
Great professor. Suggest anyone who has to take english courses sign up for his. Always has interesting reading to share. Makes time for extra help if you need it.
Jared is an excellent English instructor. He is knowledgeable in his subject and teaches it well. If you make an effort to listen to instructions and do the assignments you'll do well in his class.
Great teacher. Easy to understand and he makes the class fun. I'm taking another class with him this quarter!
I took Jared's poetry class. He's really nice and obviously very knowledgable, but it's sort of like taking a class from your little brother. He's really sweet, but it bothered me how little respect he demanded from his class. I think he's just really laid back. If you're interested you can get a lot out of the class. If not, it's still easy.
Jared's simply awsome! He's down to earth, very smart, and he cares about the students and their learning! He never shuts down students ideas, or tells people their wrong. He really focuses seeing things from other peoples prospective. I have a great deal of respect for him, and he's a gifted educator!
Jared obviously loves writing, and loves teaching. He is laid back and easy going. Take as many classes with him as you can - they're fun!
Great teacher, first "college" class i had ever taken and i was nervous. His class was laid back, relaxing, fun, not to much talking more hands on or readin. Very goo di recommend it
English isn't really my thing, but he made it interesting.
Jared is obviously very passionate about English and makes it very fun! He also doesn't spend class time sharing his political opinions with the class which is a trait hard to find from the Professors at this school. I would absolutely take a class from him again and recommend his class for anyone, even if you don't particularly like English.
I would highly recommend JL with no reservations. He's the greatest teacher I've ever had, ever. He made class easy, and he made it worthwhile. I had little HW, but learned so much. He truly cares about his students, and wants to see everyone succeed. I'm very happily continuing on to ENGL 102 with JL. :D
I've taken two classes with Jared and both have been very good experiences. He is an awesome teacher and I would recommend him to anybody at Cascadia. He makes class fun and pretty easy. I forget the class number, but his world literature and cinema class is super good.
This was my first class with Jared, and it was the best class I had this quarter. He makes the subject (english) engaging and interesting. He is very approachable and has a distinct desire to help his students reach their full potential. The class combines writing assignments with critical reading and film viewing for an excellent experience.
I think that this professor is exceptionally well. Brings good food too sometimes.
Jared is an exceptional teacher who truly cares about his students' learning. His passion for writing is infectious and he is responsible for sparking my creative writing. Bravo!
He was an amazing teacher, very helpful and kind. Can't urge you enough to choose this prof for eng 101. There were literally classes where we would just have 2 hours to draft essays though which bugged me, so i skipped those days every time. Got a 4.0
Excellent teacher! His feedback and advice on your work is very helpful. He knows his stuff. As long as you do your work you will get an A in this class. Great class will take poetry next quarter with him.
Professor is very willing to talk to you outside of class and is certainly enthusiastic. Class can get kind of boring though. All assignments must be completed for a good grade, but as long as you put moderate effort into them then it is not difficult. (There were only 4 major assignments). Professor offers plenty of extra credit too. Got a 4.0.
The theme of the assignments in class were personable and relatable, and all the readings and videos we watched were sure to be entertaining. Jared is always willing to help you succeed in his class. He's also very cute so rarely was there anything important enough to prevent me from attending class ;)
this guys chill
Such a nice teacher!
Luke Skywalker in converse.... Best teacher ever!
I took his poetry class, and he was awesome! Loved going to class, and engaging in learning. Take any of Jared's classes! I am going to take his writng fiction class! And I can't wait!
I took English 101 with Jared. He's very nice, easygoing, and a good teacher. The class was always a joy to go to but I didn't learn that much. Through the entire quarter I wrote 4 3-5 page essays that only took about 2 hours each and got a 4.0. The class was fun and easy and would recommend to someone who wants an easy A.Not good for real learning
I took the confessional culture class. It was fairly easy, but he still kept interest level high. Very nonjudgmental, and really wanted everyone to do well.
best english teacher ever. I really enjoyed the subject and the uniqueness of each essay. I'm taking him again next quarter :D
Very nice guy. Learned a very unique way to write papers.
He's literally the best English teacher I've ever had. I've taken English so many times and dropped the class because I hated the professor. But he's amazing! He allows you to redo essays for a better grade and he makes his classes super fun! YOU GUYS HAVE TO TAKE HIS CLASSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
English 101 & 102. He is easily the best English teacher I have had. He really loves the subject, and wants you to do your best work. He is easily reachable, always clear on grading and what is expected, he always has theme that is really great, and the best part is the class is always so much fun and he is very funny. LOVE HIM! AND HIS CLASSES!
HE IS AWESOME! I used to hate english classes and I'm glad I took him for my last english course. Great teacher and the class was really fun!
Jared was great! I took a combined class with psychology 101 that was all about sex and human sexuality. Jared was always open to new ideas and was very fair with his grading. Very funny guy and actually wants to hear what you have to say.
Best English professor ever! I took his learning communities class and it was a blast. super understanding and willing to help his students. if you want to gain a great learning experience from a writing class, this is the professor to have.
HE IS COMPLEATLY AWESOME! He helped me sooooo much! he's understanding, and willing to help you to a huge extent! i'm so glad he was my teacher!
Supper fun class! and it was really easy. Jared is an awesome person!
Best teacher I've ever had at Cascadia. He is helpful, clear on his instructions and just a joy to be around. He is always positive and makes class fun. Every teacher should be like him. I looked forward to going to his class everyday. I would recommend him to anyone!
easily the best professor at cascadia. he believes in educating, not penalizing, and some people will take advantage of it but others like me will wish that more professors would put the emphasis on experience instead of grades. i recommend any class he teaches!
I took this class last Spring and I can honestly say Jared is one of the coolest professors. Take him if you can!!
Five credits worth of an easy A and a fun time.
Jared was extremely nice and I very much enjoyed being in his class. He is very understanding and friendly. 10/10 would recommend
Jared is a fun and amazing English teacher! We did not do use textbooks. He is a very relaxed guy.
Jared is the best! I would recommend his class to anyone. Poetry is more of a fun class than an actual English class might be, but I've learned so much during this quarter and Jared gives great feedback. I feel like he's more of a friend than a professor :D (and to the person who said that he was "Luke Skywalker in converse", you were spot on.)
Took this class combined with another class. Jared was very helpful and would always give you feedback on essays.
I chose Jared with the knowledge that he would benefit my writing the most and I was not disappointed. He took a week off in class to schedule conferences with each of his students to give them feedback on their essays. I usually don't talk to teachers because I'm quiet, but he always tries to be there for you. Jared is absolutely wonderful.
Hands down best teacher I have had while attending Cascadia. He works with each student individualy to guarantee understanding and success.
Jared's class opens your eyes to new things in life. He is a great teacher and will help you if you need it. For the eng101 class he opened a week(without class) for conferences to make sure you are feeling good about the class so far. Great teacher, 10/10 would recommend.
Great teacher, by far one of the easiest english classes I've ever taken. I would not hesitate to take his class again. He is extremely flexible on due dates and late assignments, is caring, and just wants us to enjoy the class and material.
I took this class in my first quarter. I was a bit hesitant at first because English (specifically writing essays) has been difficult for me in the past. In the whole class there were only 3 papers to write and Jared spent LOTS of time introducing and explaining the topics of the papers. He is always willing to help as best he can. Great class!
Prof. Leising is super nice and easy going. I really enjoyed having him for ENG101! He picked a theme for my class (lost and found) which made the class more engaging. I highly recommend him.
He is an amazing teacher, cares about your voice, and doesn't talk at you, but with you. The class is very easy, and extra credit is easy to get as well. Bonus the textbook you can get for free at any library and is a quick read!
Amazing prof that clearly loves his job! Really works with you to develop a good writing habit instead of letting you fall behind. Lots of opportunity to be creative
Jared was amazing and I had such a great time working with him! If it is your first time taking a college level English class go with Leising! He is a very relaxed guy who teaches with enthusiasm and passion.
Jared was get and from what I've heard around campus, the most respected professor by students and faculty.
His class is so easy to pass and got a 4.0 GPA. If you want a perfect GPA, choose him!
He was a really kind guy that gave entertaining lectures. He's kinda floaty but it totally works for him and his lax teaching style. The class wasn't the hardest but that's not a bad thing as long as you're still learning. Great class to take if you're working since there's not constant long, pointless assignments. Great teacher, love him
Super easy! He's clear on assignments and weekly homework took maybe 2 hours in total. Only 4 papers the whole quarter and lots of time to work in class (even though we met x1/wk!). Very willing to help you and gives plenty of extra credit opportunities. I'm not a fan of English but he makes it fun and actually enjoyable. Definitely recommend him.
Leising is by far my favorite teacher at Cascadia! I first took his Eng 101 class back in 2016 and was unable to complete and had to drop it halfway through. I took sometime off and came back in 2018 and knew I had to take him for Eng 101 & 102. Easy class! Assignments and projects are very clear and simple. Attendance is important and credited.
Leising is a great teacher. Assignments are simple and easy. Not that hard of a grader. Attendance is important because you do get participation points. He allows extra credit. I am also taking him for English 102 <3
By far the best teacher here, work is very well explained and all the projects are fun and interesting. Only 3 projects and you read one book throughout the quarter. Very fun in class and very helpful with answering questions and expanding on explanations. Taking him for 102 as well:))
FAVORITE TEACHER!! had him twice a week, seriously wish I had this class everyday of the week. Great lectures, small group work to share our ideas. Only had 3 big projects. 1- a poem about your family/life with a video that you make. 2- essay analyzing something (music video/an ad or a commercial) 3- an essay with 3 options to write about! EASYYY!
He is a super nice person!!!
I had such a wonderful experience with Jared! Hes so caring and really will do the most to help you succeed. Hes totally understanding and very friendlyproachable. We did two essays. A personal narrative and rhetorical analysis essay. & a project of our choice about the book for our last project. Highly recommend if youre debating professors!
Jared is a really nice guy. His lectures are fun to listen and he also provides good feedbacks for your essay.
Jared is one of the best professors I have ever had. He is an engaging lecturer and cares about his subject matter and his students. I would gladly take a class from him. Note: we only have three major writing assignments throughout the quarter, so putting effort in to those is crucial.
The class was relatively interesting. I'm not really sure what to say about it. I didn't miss a point in the grade book the entire quarter if that tells you anything. There's a big paper in the quarter, but we didn't do it (chances are you won't either). It's a solid choice.
I took the writing fiction elective and it was great. We only wrote a few stories and as long as you keep up with the occasional small canvas assignments youll pass the class. Jared is the best teacher Ive ever had. He gives amazing feedback and is also super understanding. No idea is a bad idea and hes supportive of whatever you want to create.
Jared is a wonderful Proffessor. While in his class I experienced two deaths within a week and Jared was more than helful during this time. He even reached out to me to make sure I was doing okay. He genuinely cares about both the students and the subject he is teaching. He's the type of teacher that will answer any question, no matter how silly.
Due to COVID-19 I took English 102 with professor Leising online, even though it was meant to be a in lecture class. He's super chill and replies to emails pretty fast. We had zoom meetings every week and I feel like it is mandatory to attend if you want to get all the info and advice.
Kind and motivating guy. For Writing Fiction we had a new writing assignment nearly every week, so you'll produce a lot of material by the end of the quarter. Lots of group work where you read your work to others to receive feedback. Fun class, though I would recommend trying to make friends early on, as the groups are up to you and not assigned.
Jared Leising is a very kind man and professor. He is understanding, gives great feedback, and answers questions quickly in and outside of class. You won't regret taking a class of his.
Mr. Leising was a great teacher to take classes with during COVID. Funny, caring and well thought of assignments. He assigned great readings, always made the class laugh and gave gentle reminders when the assignments were due or if you were behind(if that makes a sense).
LOVED THIS CLASS! Very low pressure but I was able to see tangible results in improvements to my writing very early on. He gives caring, thoughtful feedback and is extremely lenient with deadlines. If you're thinking about taking him, DO IT!
He is a very understanding professor and lets you turn in an assignment for full credits even when late. His lectures are good and he's a very helpful professor and gives great feedback.
awesome
Absolutely amazing teacher. I had an awesome expirence being in his class.
Amazing
I LOVED JARED! One of my favorite profs at Cascadia for sure. His lectures were to the point and very meaningful. The projects were also nice, as we had peer review and in-class time. Overall 10/10.
amazing teacher
great professor, understanding, organized
Amazing professor. Super chill. Doesn't even like calling on people. Late work is okay. Very good class.
JARED LEISING IS THE GOAT
Jared Leising is, without a doubt, the most incredible professor I have had at Cascadia. Ive taken his ENGL 101, 102, and HUM150 classes. Not only does he make the class exciting and interesting, he always will put his students first. He cares about each and every one of his students individual needs. I will always value his teachings.
Jared is one of the best professors that Cascadia has. This is the one class where I was interested in the lectures. No exams or quizzes, just assignments, and projects that are mandatory for the class. Other than that, he would spend his time lecturing about the material and showed that he truly cared for his students learning, not just the grade
Super easy class and professor. Jared is really nice, but sometimes class can be a bit boring. The homework is fun, and you learn a lot. 100% recommend.
He is the BEST english professor. He is really nice and caring and is really easy on grading and there is barely any homework.
By far the best teacher ive ever had at any school. He's funny, very caring towards his students, and he barely assigns homework. Hes a very geniune person and rounded my grade from an 89% to a 90% when I didnt even ask. Absolute legend
W professor
Amazing class. Dr. Leising teaches English in prisons and wants to help us truly learn. Grading is based on completion, points for participating in class. The course was focused on the criminal justice system and the book Just Mercy. We got to do research on topics that we found interesting relating to the prison system. Best English prof I've had.
Had a great time in class! Zoom sessions were for a reasonable time in which he gave us all the necessary info very clearly, assignments were easy and enjoyable. Was only assigned one book to read and it was interesting, he chose great topics to center the class around!
The professor is nice, but the class itself was absolutely awful. The entire time I learned nothing about English because he only talked about the justice system and prisons. I know he is super passionate about it but I would rather learn about the thing I signed up for the class for and NOT something that has nothing to do with my education or me!
Amazing professor! I genuinely looked forward to going to class, and I learned a lot throughout the quarter. It's clear that he cares a lot about what he does, and he is really nice and understanding. The workload never felt like too much, and he uses a labor-based grading system which I appreciated.
Shame on the person who rated him a 1.0.
What a great guy. Has a "labor-based" grading system (means you get an A if you try your best). Easy grader, lectures could be a bit boring but definitely because our class was super quiet. Very heavily focused on criminal justice, but I thought it was more engaging than any other english class I've taken. Never stressed about grades. TAKE THIS!!!
I took Creative Writing taught by Leising not realizing it was Poetry based, but I still had a wonderful time. Leising is extremely relaxed and has quite a few fun activities for the course, he gives good feedback and is very lenient with late work. I hated poetry before I took this class, but after I took his class, I've learned to love it.
Probably my favorite teacher I've had since middle school. Usually I find lectures boring, but he's able to make the class interesting and engaging throughout. The workload is manageable and there's comfortable wiggle room so students can actually focus on improving on their work.
Professor Leising, as far as I know, is one of Cascadia's best professors. A very passionate teacher-he's extremely kind and understanding. Late work, as long as it is of good effort and rubric-oriented, receives no deductions. There are a ton of opportunities outside of class for extra credit. Attendance is required for all classes except for 4.
Simply G.O.A.T. doesn't have strict late work rules. If u show him ur interest in his course, u'll do well. The research paper focuses on the criminal justice system. Attendance is required; u can miss about 4 days. He's a really nice, understanding person who helps u with problems and gives clear grading criteria.
Professor Leising's ENG102 class was engaging and manageable. His labor-based grading system made the workload feel reasonable, and he clearly cares about student learning. The lectures were sometimes focused on criminal justice, but I found that topic interesting. unstuck study was a helpful study tool alongside the reading material.
Love this guy. Whole quarter we read Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson (super engaging and inspirational book!) and focused our assignments mainly around the criminal justice system. If you're looking to learn how to research and apply critical thinking to real world problems, this is the class for you! He's also super chill about late work.
Class and assignments centered around justice system. Get to choose your own related topic and create a chosen product related to it. Manageable workload with lots of extra credit opportunities. Labor based grading, not hard to do well in class. Jared is super helpful, engaging and gives good feedback. He truly cares about his students.
Jared Leising is such an awesome prof! Loved this class. He is encouraging and knowledgeable, and will develop your skills significantly if you let him. You will get out what you put in, and if you try even a little, it will be rewarding. Seamless with accommodations and makes everything accessible. Will take this professor again for sure!
I have taken a class with Prof. Leising before and have nothing but praise for him. He's truly inspirational, especially when you learn about his life story and the remarkable things he's done. Do I put this professor on a pedestal? Yes, and he absolutely deserves it. Thank you, Jared Leising, for teaching me so much and for your encouragement!
Poetry w Prof. With colors and words and feelings and faces We learned to weave art into words once evasive. In this class, we excelled, made friends, and built dreams Some took it for an easy A, but for others? Their eyes gleamed. We created, we crafted, and we honed in our skills, We are always in awe of this prof. He is so much more than enough.
Prof Leising is extremely nice, I took eng 102 last year and he gave some really great content. The book he had us read is now one of my favorite books and I don't normally like reading. Class centered a lot around social issues but the content he gave us was really good and we had plenty of time to talk and socialize so pick a fun table to sit at!
hes amazing, cares about his students and gives good feedback. lectures are sort of boring but not too bad
