I love Professor J so much. One of the few profs who actually LISTENS to his students and makes changes based on their preferences. He has a class/grading model unlike anything I've ever seen--extra chances to get points back on assignments & exams, and no due dates! He's understanding & really sets students up for success. TAKE HIM FOR MATH 118!!
Dr. J is amazing, he really cares about you learning the material, and provides everyone with the necessary tools to be successful.
Dr. J has been so accommodating this semester and really applies student feedback. His grading system gives you many chances and is really mastery-based so you are learning the concept rather than focused on grades. Take him for 118!
Dr. J is an absolutely fantastic professor. He puts a lot of effort into making sure you are able to fully grasp the course material. Very reasonable with the work he puts out and is a really sweet and devoted person overall. Take him!
Before coming to USC, I was terrible at Math, still am. I was really not confident taking Math118 thought I was going to fail this class. But Dr. J is honestly the best math teacher I have ever ever met. Not gonna lie, he provides many chances to help you improve your grade and learn from your mistakes. Wonderful teacher!
Literally the best math professor I've had. He is such a great teacher and is also so understanding of his students. If you have the opportunity to take his class, I would highly recommend him. It really doesn't get better than this.
Dr. J is such an amazing teacher. He really prepares you for the test. He's really caring and genuinely wants to make sure you understand the concepts being taught. Make sure to join office hours if you need extra help, he tries to get to everyone's questions. I would definitely recommend him!
He is honestly one of the best math teachers I have ever had. I have never been good at math - yet I really come out feeling like a mathematician after his lectures and in-depth office hours. His tests are only as hard as you make of them, so if you do the assignments, the tests will be easier. I gladly recommend to take the class with him!
He is one of the best math teachers at USC. He is very excited and eager to help you if you need it he makes the course work seem easy and he offers lots of practice problems and extra credit opportunities. I would def pick him for math 117 or math 118 .
Truly one of the best teachers I've had, especially for a tricky subject like math. He always made time to explain or meet with his students, and never makes anyone feel "dumb". I can tell that he genuinely has a passion for teaching. You can retake missed questions on tests to get an A. I always knew what was expected of me.
He is one of the best teachers I've had so far. He encourages students to practice and gives good feedback. He aims to improve his students' math abilities. He is very understanding.
As someone who knows multiple people that have failed 118 I was nervous to take the course, but Dr. J has honestly been the best math teacher I have ever had. He truly cares about the success of his students and puts in a lot of effort to give as many opportunities as possible. His teaching is clear, concise, and thorough. TAKE HIM TRUST ME
The best professor I have EVER had. He goes above and beyond to help his students succeed. If you get a question on your test wrong, you will have a chance to take a similar question to redo the question. He records solutions to all homework questions (not mandatory, btw). You are given A LOT of opportunities to succeed. Take this class.
Dr. J is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. He really understands how students learn and gives you a lot of opportunities to get credit. He's also a super nice guy.
Dr. J is one of the best, if not best, teacher I've ever had. He's very caring and really takes to the time to make sure everyone understands the material and is extremely accommodating. His class is very test heavy, yet he does his best to prepare everyone for it, and does a damn good job at it. Take him, you won't regret it.
Best math 118 teacher, actually best teacher. Take Dr. Warner
Best MATH 118 professor you'll find. His grading system encourages you to actually learn as opposed to just memorization. He's also super caring and accommodating to every student- he makes sure all our opinions are taken into account and is always open to help you outside of class. Take his class!
I think Dr. J had office hours every single day. Honestly no way of expressing just how awesome this Prof is. He is everything I think the learning system should be. Take him if you have the chance.
The best professor ever! He holds a ton of office hour sessions and he was always willing to help me out. He genuinely cares about his students and how they do in his class. He has his own grading system which allows students multiple opportunities to do well in the class. Highly suggest you take his class he really is a good professor.
Everything before the final is a a breeze if you are willing to review and study the day before the quizzes and do the assignments, I had a 100 percent in the class leading up to the final while skipping 80 percent of the classes. However, since the final is common it's unbelievably hard, failed it and ended up barely getting a A-.
Dr. J is amazing, super down-to-earth, genuine, and always has the students' best interest in mind. He sets up the class in a way that prepares you for all assessments and final, and he also gives you plenty of opportunities to improve scores from quizzes and midterms where you made mistakes which relieves a ton of stress on assessments. True gem.

Accessible, caring, and just amazing! There are retakes for midterms called Jubilees, so even if you do poorly on an exam, you have a chance to recover from it. He has his own grading system, which I think is very efficient and suited for learning. One thing is that his exams are a bit more difficult than the homework and in-class problems.
Absolutely amazing! Dr.J cares about his students and wants to make sure that everyone has what they need to succeed. Many professors claim to make changes to their class if its better for the whole and dont do so, Dr.J is not one of these professors. He is very engaging and explains everything to the point that you understand but are not bored.
Best prof for math ngl - tests were hard but has a lot of make-ups and chances for points back
Dr.J has a super cool grading system that actually benefits his students. He is super caring and truly hope that we get the best grades
Dr. Warner is a great choice. He has multiple opportunities for you to retake and earn points as you master certain topics. He really understands that students learn at different paces and he tries his best to accommodate that. He offers a lot of office hours and responds quickly to emails. It's still hard, but Dr. Warner makes it a lot easier.
What a man. Super caring and accessible outside of class, who always tries his hardest to be in tune with his students. He genuinely wants you to succeed and prepares you well for exams. Take him if you ever have the opportunity. Make sure to put in the effort, and you'll have success. By far one of the best professors/educators I've ever had.
Best professor ever, lets u retake all the tests. Super polite, nice, and accessible.
Warner is literally the best calc 1 prof at USC. He gives you SO many opportunities to retake and score 100%s, which makes the class so easy. The final is still worth a lot, but all the questions are super similar to the ones we do in class. He also holds office hours a LOT and is helpful w/ questions. TAKE HIM, AMAZING PROF!
Dr. Warner is one of the best professors I've had at USC. He is an extremely gifted teacher and has a natural understanding of how to convey the information he is teaching to different types of learners. He is a very thoughtful professor with a unique grading style, where everything builds off of previous assignments and quizzes. Excellent prof.
Professor Warner allows you to retake any test three times throughout the semester, removing the pressure to do well on every test. He holds regular office hours and explains mathematical concepts in a very clear way. I would highly recommend taking him!
A great teacher who is super understanding. You are able to retake tests and receive full credit on the retakes which is super helpful.
Warner is USC's best gem. He truly cares about students grasping the material and gives you multiple tries to master the material on tests. Very approachable and helpful! DEFINITELY RECOMMEND.
Prof. Warner clearly has a passion for mathematics. He's the kind of professor that inspires you to find a career that mirrors the passion he has for his. If you go to class, and do the practice problems there's no reason you shouldn't get an A. He's definitely one in a million. Take him if you have the chance. Oh and he allows retakes, enough said
He is truly one of a kind professor, beyond thankful I got the chance to be his student. He is super understanding, making lectures and office hours available online, offering retakes on tests, and generous curves. If you put in the effort you will get an A.
Jared is one of the best professors I've ever had. Multiple opportunities to succeed on tests. Videos aside from lecture you can use for help. He knows his stuff and he goes the extra mile to help students do well in his class. Also, just a really nice and down to earth guy. Easily a 10/10 prof. If you need to take math, take his class.
An amazing professor who truly cares about what he teaches and ensures that his students understand the material thoroughly. Incorporates real-life examples in his lectures as well as provides extra support when students are struggling. Extra videos, interactive resources, and extra practice to solidify understanding of the material.
AMAZING. By far best professor. The amount of effort he puts in making his lectures/ videos, guided desmos apps shows how much he cares. Very accessible outside class. Also gives so much chances w/ makeup tests. You can easily get full credit despite small mistakes. Math 125 by far was easiest class. He prepares you well for common final was so ez
Professor Warner was the pinnacle of greatness. He truly cares about each student and provides frequent office hours to accommodate his students. The way in which he designed his class was very stress relieving and helped students focus on bettering themselves and mastering certain concepts. He was always incredibly caring and always wanted to help
Warner is hands down the best math professor I've ever had. He gives you a lot of opportunities to do well and is generally super chill. I would recommend his class to anyone! As long as you put the work in, you'll do well.
Professor Warner is one of the best math instructors I've ever had. He does not assign homework and the practice problems are optional. He provides retakes and you don't have to redo the whole exam, only the certain section that you haven't mastered. If you master a certain section then you won't see it again. Literally the best math prof ever.
BEST TEACHER EVER! Take him if you want to do well!!!
He is seriously one of the best professors I have had. The way his class is structured makes it easier to actually understand concepts and relieves stress about having to retake concepts that you have already mastered. He cares about his students and as long as you put in some effort and do the practice problems you will do very well :)
yupp take him
I definitely recommend taking Warner for Math 118. Flexible with attendance and assignments with many opportunities to boost grades making class accommodating for different types of learners.
God sent professor. the BEST. Understanding. He makes sure that no one gets lost in the material. Very responsive, accessible, his instructions and lectures are easy to grasp. SO helpful Many opportunities to redo exam problems and extra assignments to help your grade. Homework not mandatory if you perform well on exam Made math easy & tangible!
The best 118 professor there is. You will get the grade you want depending on the amount of effort you put in.
Explains the concepts amazingly. Whatever effort you put in will be the grade that you get. If you have previously taken calc in high school, this class should be a breeze.
Take him!!! He is the best math professor I have ever meet in my life! Just take his class.
By far the best 118 professor. Has office hours every day for extra help, very caring about his students. If you make an effort to keep up with the lectures and put in work with the practice problems you should have no problem getting an A.
Very helpful professor! Three exams and a final with three retakes. If you have to take a math class at USC, TAKE IT WITH WARNER!
the only light in the math dept at usc, take him if possible -- very flexible and his office hours are genuinely helpful. very kind and concise in his lectures and explains questions really well during and outside of class. retakes are available until you master the outcome which is a saving grace. huge jared plug, he's the best prof ever
One of the best professors at USC! He's always willing to help students, very reachable, and caring. He gave you several opportunities to boost your grade so as long as you pay attention to the class and work hard, you could get A.
Professor Warner is by far the best math teacher I've had in my life. He genuinley cares about his students and understands that calc is very challenging. He gives you every opportunity to succeed through retakes and regrades. The organization of the class is very clear and fair. He also is generally great at explaining tough math concepts.
He gives you many chances to improve your grade. I didn't do too well, but I can not blame him for it at all which shows he really is a great professor. He explains topics really clearly in terms of professors go & is helpful & accessible.
By far the best professor at USC for calculus. Gives you so many chances to improve your grade, gives you good feedback, and his lectures just make so much sense if you follow along. He explains everything in different ways to accommodate for different students to understand. Practice problems and Prelims are super helpful in studying.
I'm genuinely not a math person, so I struggled with calculus. But if I didn't take Prof Warner I would've failed. So many test retake opportunities. I did the asynchronous way of taking the class (copying notes after class) but I should've went to in person lectures to understand better. All I can recommend is study SO SO much! But he is great!
Questions on midterms were really hard in relation to the practice problems given, but overall there were a lot of retake opportunities to where you could improve your score in a fair way. The difficulty of the midterms helped an incredible amount for preparing for the final exam, which was very similar in difficulty to his exams.
This is literally the best choice for Math 125! Dr. Jared is one of the most caring and thoughtful professors at the USC math department. His lectures are very clear and give us enough applications to understand each topic conceptually. There will be some retakes, which helps boost the grade and get ready for the common final! Take him!
All asynchronous. To access practice problems you have to pay for online textbook. Class is extremely fast paced and dense, jared is wonderful though. Three parts of the course so three tests with three extra tests in between each to redo questions/topics you want to improve on. extra assignment available to make your final be weighed differently
Probably the best MATH 125 professor to take with. Nice guy and each test besides the final has a retake so you have an attempt to bring up your score. Class is formatted a little weird and final can be worth up to 40% of your grade which sucks. Do all practice ahead of time and go to office hours (or avoid taking calc here unless you have to lol)
very chill and helpful. minimal work if you choose to do so. Lots of areas to build up your grade. Lets you retest to improve.
He is an amazing professor but the curriculum is challenging. Without him as a professor I would not have gotten as good as a grade as I did. TAKE HIS CLASS
Never went to the classes but got a high score. Jared makes outstanding notes, I just put his notes on my cheatsheet every time and it will cover all the contents of the exam. A lot of retake opportunities on his chapter exams. He makes harder questions than the other 118 profs, but not very hard if you look at the notes and practice.
Best professor! Provides retakes for each test which is a grade saver. He has thorough lectures which you can attend in person, on Zoom, or asynchronously, and will explain things multiple times to make sure that you understand. He also relates the content to micro, which most people take the next semester, so that you're prepared.
Amazing teacher (I'm bad at math so I dropped for my sanity), butttt even if you are bad at math and actually try, you'll for sure do well ( I just gave up). Super accessible, great at explaining, go to office hours.
Prof Warner's an amazing professor that really showed he cares for his students. I am terribly bad at math, however he curves the grades by average of our class so it helped immensely! If you're also poor in math, he has office hours (both online and in person) and it helps. No HW and can take in person OR online
Warner is an incredible teacher. His class is extremely structured and easy to follow. The expectations are clear and there are opportunities for retakes and to boost your grade. DO THE HOMEWORK! It's not graded, but if you learn it- you'll ace the tests. I strongly reccomend.
Very nice prof but the class is super difficult. one of our exams had a 35% average before the retake (he makes it harder than practice problems to prepare you for the final so theyre terrible). No accountability at all no hw no attendance so its hard to keep up with nothing forcing you to review the content which made it a very hard class for me.
Professor Warner is truly an amazing professor. He's very clear about grades and expectations and provides retakes for every test up until the end of the semester. Lectures were in person, zoom, or asynchronous, TA for discussion wasn't very helpful so I stopped going after a couple of weeks.
Warner is an incredibly understanding professor that does everything in his ability to help you succeed in the class. I am not the strongest in math and was very nervous going into the class, however, Warner gives multiple chances to improve your grade and prioritizes learning and mastery over grades.
Amazing Professor! I was very new to Calculus and had a rough start at the beginning of the semester, but I advice going to office hours and making use of the retake test. The class contract requires minimal effort, but truly put in the work. Also ANSWER ALL OF THE QUESTIONS in the final, the points add up.
Take Professor Warner if you can! He has a unique course layout that can seem a bit daunting at first but really serves to work to your benefit. Attendance isn't mandatory so you just need to make sure you know the content really well. Great guy, he shows that he genuinely cares about his students.
Professor Jared Warner is an awesome teacher for math. He has clear and understandable guidelines to succeed and allows students to attend either through attending physical lectures or online or even asynchronous. The course is math heavy but its for your benefit as some of them are retakes to improve your grade.
Prof. Warner is the only reason I understood and did well on Math 118, he is a godsend!!
The professor is a very nice person but also an amazing teacher. Attendance is not mandatory, and he records every lesson on Zoom so you can follow the lesson online or look at it later. He clearly explains the topics and is very clear about the grading system etc. It's clear that he cares a lot about his students performing well!
Amazing prof. One of my favorite teachers I've encountered so far at USC. Lecture are recorded, super accessible for help, wonderful explanations. You basically have 2 chances for the midterm if you put in effort to do homework which I think is super reasonable.
GOAT. Multiple tries on tests, attendance not mandatory, need I say more?
An amazing professor that really cares about his students. Although the content is naturally hard as he is a math teacher, he tries his best to make sure all of this students understand the content and is always making himself available outside of class for extra help. I emailed him once at 11:30 pm and got a response at 12 am.
great guy, appreciate how he tries to combat the terrible usc math system. the class structure is probably the best it could be, but the way the calc department is run overall seemingly works against its students. test averages are 30%, retake system can make your grade worse if it starts off high. final is worth 40%, but he gives options to offset
Multiple chances to improve your grade, having past sample exams with answers, reasonable office hours, recorded zoom lectures, this guy is everything you want in any class period. Anyone who rates him a 3 or lower is lying!
He does everything he can to help your grade, there is an extra credit assignment and you retake the three midterms. He gives you the past finals and prepares you for the final more than other 125 profs. Tests are super hard but the curve is crazy, a 77% in the class got me an A-. Grade is an average of tests and final plus extra credit.
Prof. Warner is the best professor I've had at USC so far. It was the first time this class has been offered, but the way he makes confusing topics easy to understand is amazing. I learned so much in this class, and you have every opportunity to get an A as each 5 week unit has multiple retake opportunities. Take this class if it's offered.
Challenging class and topic, but the professor explains it very well. I really enjoyed the class.
Prof. Warner is a great professor overall. He explains concepts well and gives good examples. Doing the homework is optional but DO IT! the notes in class are like the backbone to your learning, and the homework problems are harder and bring up concepts that you might've not thought about. Great prof, hard tests but good curve. Take him if you can!
W Jared!!!
Jared is fantastic! If you are looking for a good math prof, you should go with Jared. He is easy to reach and super helpful. As long as you put in the work and go to office hours, you will be fine!
Probably one of the better MATH professors at USC. He has 3 big tests before the final, but offers makeup tests to improve your grade if you do poorly on them. The average on the exams is low, but he curves generously at the end of the semester. Super available outside of lectures and offers numerous times for office hours.
Professor Jared is quite literally the best professor out there. 3 main exams and many make up ones as well, an extra credit project and homework for practise. He is super approachable in class and outside. Attend his office hours!! You'll do great, it's not that hard
If you have the opportunity, TAKE A CLASS WITH JARED. He is the best 125 instructor and sets all his students up for success. I do want to emphasize that his class is not easy though. He is a very good teacher and models 125 in a way that is meant to give students the best chance of getting a good grade, but all of his exams are very challenging.
I struggled in his class, but Jared did his best to make Calc 2 understandable. There are 3 main exams with retakes and an optional assignment that counts for your final exam. He is always accessible and is caring with all of his students. The tests are hard, and the averages were low, but the curve for his class is huge. Take him 100% if you can.
Amazing lecturer and cares for his students. Exams are tough (40% averages), but you end up doing retakes so super manageable. Curve was great. Overall learned a lot from this class which is rare for USC calc, he's the obvious choice.
Difficult class, amazing professor.
