Very nice man! He is so helpful and his explanations can't get much more simple. He gives very little homework, a quiz each week (4 questions) and a few tests. You can't go wrong with this guy.

I usually hate math, but he breaks it down and makes it simple, as long as you go to class and copy the notes, you'll do fine. All the homework assignments are online so don't bother buying the book, just get the software he requires. He's always willing to give extra help and wants everyone to be successful in his class.

Took this class over the summer, so it was fast paced. Overall a good teacher. Gave pre-tests so you pretty much know what is going to be on the test and offers make up tests as well. He is very approachable when you have questions, and genuinely cares for his students.

This professor is very helpful in class and is always willing to help. Sad part is is that the course is mind numbing. I already know all of it. That placement test messed me up. any who, if you have to go to this class i would suggest this one since hes a nice guy. A great professor and he knows what he is talking about. He takes Attendence when he has to for people on TSI. Tests are scantron and maybe like 2 were not. NO quizzes, Hw online which is very easy. I Already knew what he was talking about but overall is he a good teacher and helps whenever he can

I am someone who HATES math, and when it came to Professor Becan's class, I actually LIKED coming! The way he taught was very straightforward and understandable and made me feel smarter in the subject than I actually am! The tests are easy, and the homework online is EASIER. GREAT PROFESSOR and TAKE HIM if you want a good math grade! :)

Professor Becan is a really nice helpful man. I had mono and missed 4 weeks of his class, he was very helpful with me making up all the assignments. His class is very easy to pass, and he cares about his students, and seems to like his job.

WOW I actually loved this class... It cant remember the name its something like math for non math majors or something alike- I had failed algebra before and then found out about this class... and I loved it! Got and A, so thats something!!!!!

He is a really nice, old man. He's kind of def so you need to speak somewhat loud when you talk to him. He's funny and very helpful. I enjoyed taking his class. I never once used my text book. He explains everything pretty good. I recommend him

I failed this class twice before due to having profs that offered little to no help other than text book problems or that made simple problems overly complicated. This guy is great, crystal clear lectures, make-up tests, and will give you credit if you at least attempted the problem half way. If you struggle with math this guy is a sure bet!

Becan is so awesome. I've been so terrible at math my whole life, but he made it seem so easy and the block I've had on math for so long has been lifted. I highly recommend him for someone who has trouble with math. He breaks down things for you and makes it seem so easy. He does everything he can to help the student.

Don't waste money buying the textbook. Just find out the online code and go online to do the homework, which is helpful. Becan gets really into his lectures, so he tends to have messy handwriting on the overhead, but will answer questions if needed. Good teacher, just do homework. I'm not goot at math, but he's a good teacher. Just work hard.

I do so much better in Math with Mr. becan. He really helps you if you have the chance do take his class

Prof. Becan is wonderful. I can not say enough about him. Patient, kind, and helpful are a few words, though. He does everything possible to make sure you "get" it, and that you have it in your ability to pass. You can totally bomb a test, but if you pull up your boot straps, he will reward you and help your average. Great professor. A++

He is an excellent professor and always willing to help if you ask. Grades fairly. Gives a study guide and the tests are not too hard as long as you know how to do things on the study guide.

This class is absolutely easy! The professor is very clear and thourough, so that's a plus. You don't have to go to class to pass (it's recommended if you want to get an a), but definitely go to class when he reviews. Tests are pretty easy and he always brings back questions from previous tests. I'd recommend him.

Absolutely easy! Explains steps very clearly. Unlike other teachers, he doesn't require you to show ur work on tests or anything. Homewrk is done online which is easy cuz they practically show u how to do it. Laid bak professor. I took this class to refresh o math an its an easy grade. I definately recommend him if u wnt easyness!

Take this teacher! He is nice, really caring, and understands when we need extra help. I only showed up for tests and made an A because the homework covers absolutely everything on the test. If you miss a few tests he replaces the grade if you do better on later tests he is just AMAZING and I don't hate math as much anymore.

I switched into his class half way through the semester. He made my transition so easy, and smooth. Professor Becan speaks very cleary, and explains things as many times as needed. I would totally recommend him!

Prof Becan is the only reason why I am minoring in math. I used to think Math was extremely difficult, but after I took him he made everything crystal clear. He is really approachable and is willing to go above and beyond so you understand the material (even if you ask him stupid questions like "so how do you factor again?"). Take him!

Professor becan is fantastic! he is very kind and helpful. most of the work is done online as well as how to do the work so i didn't attend class much. Don't buy the book, get the mymathlab program, it's half the price with the same material

I have tried and dropped College Algebra three times over the past several years. Mr. Becan made it easy for me to learn. Attend class, do the online homework and reviews, attend the in-class review, and this should be a successful class for you. (I suggest saving $$ and buying only the online math lab and text - skip the printed copy).

Okay, like, im not going to lie. i failed almost ALL his test! He doesn't do multiple choice at all, so you'd actually have to know what you're doing in his class. only hope for redemption is mymathlab(make sure you answer atleast 200 questions correctly) you dont have to get a 100 on all his hw assigments. and he has 6 test, and you can make up 2!

In one semester I failed to learn for years in high school. Definitely recommend this professor. Its not the easiest class but believe me you will learn.

I loved this prof! He was clear and to the point on what he is going to teach and what you need to know to pass the course and what you will need for the next class after (if you are going to take a higher math class). Sometimes gives extra credit for attendance and bonus questions on the tests! I highly recommend to anyone who needs to take math.

He's very helpful. He made math easy for me. attendance is not mandatory but I reccomend showing up everyday to class because he always has an easy approach on how to solve problems. I'm currently taking his mat1023.

Highly recommended! Awesome grading policy where you can make up for bad test grades by doing well on the next, and you can make it through the course without the book. Do buy the online homework software so you can study and have an electronic copy of the book, just in case. Its a tough subject but he does an awesome job teaching it.

Don't talk, text, or computer in his class. He is funny, helpful, but stern with students. His grading system gives you a chance to do better on the next test to save that bomb you did on the last test. Enjoyed his class.

He was awesome! I was dreading this class so much cuz I HATE math courses. But he made it so easy to learn. He gives you 2 make up exams to replace your lowest grades. Plus drops your lowest grade at the end... Totally recommend this guy

Becan is pretty good. The class is of course ridicoulously easy! You have a test almost every week, which should only take 15 min. to complete. You don't need your textbook. All you need is MyMath Lab account. He doesn't like cell phones out so put away, or hide and text. lol Class not mandatory. If you care for the class you'll get an A!

Fantastic teacher, my favorite class of the semester. Attendance and book not required, but he does give extra credit if you do MML HW and attend class. Tests are good because you can pick and choose what questions you do for some of them, so if you don't know a certain section you can get by. Show up to class OR follow MML and easy A!

You don't need the text book, just the mymathlab which I got for $50. Do every single homework assignment to learn for his tests. Tests aren't long either. Don't text in his class. He's laid back and very willing to help anyone. Just do you work and you'll be fine. I skipped his class plenty and still managed an A.

He was the best teacher I have had. Show up for class and listen, and you will make a good grade. Don't use your phone in class, he doesn't like that very much. If you need help, go to him, he will help you with whatever. I would strongly suggest taking him.

Great professor. Four tests and two additional makeup tests, which help boost your grade. He explains clearly and is very willing to answer questions during and after class. He explains the logic, which helps a lot with grasping the material. He'll definitely work with you, and he's constantly pushing HW deadlines back for students.

Alg w/ Calc for Bus. Best prof at UTSA. Two makeup tests because he wants you to really learn the material. He loves students who work hard, and gives EVERY chance to master the material. Absolutely great prof. He uses Mymathlab, write down his examples and DO THE HW. it will help for the test. I wish he taught all my math classes.

This is the 2nd time I have taken Becan in the past two years and once again was awesome! Took Jones last semester (same class) and did bad. Came back and picked up an A in the class. Very easy. 2 Make up tests and all tests are short and easy. Gets a little tougher towards the end, but not to much. You may have a take home test. Becan is a must

He makes it very hard to fail this course, but you do actually have to try. Normally with any kind of math, I get it down for the test and then forget it, but his system makes you actually learn and retain the info.

Becan is an excellent teacher! He was so nice and many abused that of him, he gives plenty of opportunity to succeed and does want you to learn. Many did not attend class but would be those complaining for better grades, go to class, do the hmwk early and you'll get an A for sure!

I really enjoyed this class. I have never been a math person but I was able to make 3 100's on 3 of the 6 midterms. His grading scale was awesome. He is an excellent professor b/c he explains well and welcomes questions. I totally recommend him!

TAKE HIM..he's the best! If you hate math && have a hard time with it, then take Mr. Becan..he's really funny && he wants all his students to do good. His tests are not multiple choice but are really easy. If you go to class the day before a test, he will go over the whole test but make up different numbers. && his grading policy is GREAT!

If math is not your thing, Becan is your guy! Dont hesitate to take his class over anyone else. Go to class for the nongraded quizzes everyday and just study those, its the same thing as the test. Got a D in the spring with a different teacher, took Becan summer'13, and aced it! TAKE HIM!

Easiest class at UTSA. 5 in class test, 1 take home test, half take home final, half in class. Got 100 on all of them. Explains you everything, this class might be boring if you know the material. Basically, half algebra half calc. No book required, access code needed. Didn't study at all, just do hw and will be fine.

Dr. Becan is a math angel sent from heaven. Before his class I had so much trouble understand the simplest math concepts. He is by far the best math teacher I've had in my educational career. Very helpful and interested in his students' success. Take him! You won't regret it.

Good teacher, is clear and smooth with explaining. He doesn't like you on your phone or laptop or when you talk during class and he will call you out on it. His text come directly from the quizzes he gives. I hated math before him.

Professor Becan does a great job at explaining the mathematical operations taught. He goes step by step and offers help in his office hours. He also is known to crack a couple funny jokes throughout the semester. Tests are based on in class quizzes and are almost exactly the same. He offers some after study sessions before big tests as well.

His class is so easy. If he sees that you are really trying, he will help you. He is really specific with what exactly will be on his exams. He assigns homework online, but gives you lots of time to complete it.

He is my savior. All business majors need this class and if you are not great in math, he is the guy for you!! Took math last fall with another teacher but failed it miserably but the second time around with professor Becan was amazing!!! He gives out so many chances to boost your grade and tests are not long and exactly like quizzes!

Attending this class on a regular basis makes all the difference. If you skip his class too much, then there's a big chance that your grade will be impacted in a negative way.

Jerry Becan is a great professor! Expect one homework assignment per test (6 tests). Two of those tests will makeup for any low grade you might make. You shouldn't make a low grade, since his tests are exactly like the no grade quizzes he does before class. It's definitely worth attending class for those quizzes because he shows you how to do them.

Prof Becan is truly a miracle maker. I'm normally a D student in math, but I got A's on all my exams (he gives six and a final). He makes you show your work on the exams but it's not that bad. I got a B in the class cause I didn't study enough for the final, which is cumulative. Definitely take this professor if math isn't your thing!!

Great professor. Unlike my High school math teachers who shoved tons of HW on me, he gives moderate amounts at most. He really has a way with teaching and takes it nice and easy. He wont take you for granted and gives quick reviews into the "expected knowledge". Oh, also a policy where your second test grade will replace your first if its higher!!!

He's a great professor! If you skip a class it is hard to keep up! He has a dry sense of humor. Homework is online, not too hard. He gives non graded quizzes in the beginning of each class. The test are exactly like the quizzes. Easy grading system! Would take him again for sure!

get this professor. you will be bored but hes so nice and he makes really weird jokes, but you end up laughing anyways. he invites questions and downloads all notes so if you miss a class you can just look at the notes. test are open ended but are super easy, they reflect notes and homework

Everything he goes over in class will be on the tests, but he reviews with you before every test so you know exactly what to expect. Lectures can be boring, but he throws in a joke every so often. Very strict no-electronics rule. Clarifies topics only when asked, so don't be afraid to speak up.

Lenient math professor that only helps upon request, class may be boring but worth it for easier understanding (daily class notes are always posted after), attendance is not required but you should attend before a test (tells exactly what to expect), is very kind, gives one big project with final grade so get with a friend and help each other out!

Easy easy easy class. He gives warm ups everyday, which are exactly the questions that will be on the test (w/ different numbers ofc), which are also posted on blackboard. Becan is nice and always willing to help. Online HW is easy. Class is a bit boring but its an easy A so who cares.

Dr. Becan talks a lot so try to focus in class. It is hard to focus when it is an 8AM. Write down everything he writes down because it will be on every test. If you are strong with algebra, it will be easy. Just do your homework online and attend test day and day before test. Recommend buying the online pass code because the book comes with it.

Becan is just an alright professor. The material is easy. 4 tests with optional makeup tests that replace your lowest grade. And there's about 120 homework problems that count towards your final grade. He tries his best to make the material understandable, but sometimes he gets very frustrated and kind of flips out on the class.

Prof. Becan was the best professor I took my fall semester. MAT 1033 is a difficult class but taking it with him made it 100 times easier. His test are exactly like in in class quizzes (which he does with the class, so dont worry if you dont understand the material) and you DO NOT need the textbook for his class.

He is not an extremely good professor since he doesn't really explain a lot in class, he'll put examples on the screen, go over them really fast and keep going. With that been said he posts all the class notes and quizzes answered step by step. He doesn't grade the quizzes He gives 4 tests, they are all hard but if u study the quizzes ur good.

Lovely professor. Cares about his students and whether or not they're succeeding in the class or not so much. Always reminds of his office hours and gives reviews before the beginning of each class. Posts notes and previous test answers on blackboard so you can review your tests and improve.

Although attendance isn't mandatory, if you go to class and take the notes, it helps you study for the test, you will do great. He gives 4 exams with the option of 2 makeup exams that replace your lowest grades. There aren't many grades in this class, all he puts in are the tests and homework assignments. Also the final was a take home test:)

I LOOOOVED Professor Becan he is super nice and understandable. I would definitely take him again. If you have a problem with your grade or class do not hesitate to email him. What I really loved about his class was the retest and opportunities he gives us. Is a choice going to class, but he puts quizes everyday to help you for the test.

Class is pretty easy as long as you go to class. Tests are identical to the quizzes he gives each day in class. The quizzes are not graded. Do each HW assignment as quickly as you can and then forget about it. The HW is so much harder than his tests. Only study the quizzes that he gives when you are studying for the tests. He gives 2 make up tests!

Like any class, you should study outside of it if you aren't a natural. This was an easy A because I focused on the things I struggled with. His daily quizzes aren't graded, but are almost verbatim what is on the tests. He is very clear about what you must study AND gives make up tests. You will only fail this class if you seriously dont even try.

Pr. Becan was great for Algebra. He wants you to pass and will definitely help. I never used the physical book, at the beginning of class he'll go over how to get just the online one (which you need for homework.) Tests are well reviewed, pay attention to quizzes and take the 2 makeup tests offered. Final is multiple choice.

Work is easy. Do not use technology in his class. He submit grades for test the day of or the very next day so that's great. Very chill and sometimes funny. Teaches well but doesn't explain himself thoroughly in my opinion. Available if you need him.

He was a supeeerrr chill teacher. if you already know basic math it's easy to pass. you don't even need to go to class cause the textbook has videos that explain the work

Good Professor. Test are very easy & exactly like review in class before and quizzes that are non-graded. He HATES phones & computers and will kick you out for them. He reminds me of Han Solo, but older. Homework is online & you have three (easy). You don't have to show up - HW is just like test. Only show up the day before a test for the review.
