I love psychology and this class made me dislike it. He is extremely boring with very little examples. His tests are hard because he doesn't talk about half of the stuff in class and sometimes it isn't even in the book. I am an A student and I have a C in this class. I study extremely hard and yet his tests and class is awful. Totally dislike him.
Professor Hines is great! His class is really laid back, and tests are short and easy as long as you take notes in class. Attendance is taken, but you can skip a few times and be fine. Reading the textbook is suggested, but not required. I would definitely recommend professor Hines!
I would not recommend this class. The material we go over makes class interesting to attend, but the way he presents it is dry. He makes the class seem easy but gives some of the most confusing and un-related questions on the exams that make it impossible to get better than a B no matter how much studying is done. 100% exam and quiz based.
He can be arrogant but he forces you to learn a lot.
I really like him. Some people complain about his tests but he basically tells you what to study for and if you look over the text book before the tests you will do fine. He is easy to approach if you have any questions and is helpful as well. You will also do well if you pay attention in class. Easy to get a B in this class
Jarrod is terrible. He swears all the time, doesn't reply to your emails when you ask him for feedback, his tests are not too bad, but the class is not fun with him. Do not take him if you have the choice
Hines is a very arrogant professor. He did not plan well for the class obviously because he is always rushing through the material just to stay on track. He is not a helpful professor and his presentation of the material is very dry. I definitely would not recommend this professor for any class. Avoid taking him!!
I study all the time for my tests, I make notecards, attend class, and study for hours. I still can't seem to get over a C on my tests. Must be how he words the tests. Anyways, I think having a different professor would have been beneficially for this class.
This is one of the worst professors I have ever had. Psych 100 is supposed to be easy and he makes it hard. His exams are ridiculous and I study hard by making flash cards and highlighting the book and it does not help. Do not take this professor.
Do not take this class with him. Is not clear on anything from his exams to his papers.
I took AP Psych in highschool and took the class simply for an easy A. He is not easy. He makes the easiest things seem hard. He has no understanding whatsoever. I would recommend taking anyone, I repeat ANYONE before him
As long as you take notes in addition to the printed power point notes you will do fine. I study a lot for the tests but cant seem to get above a B. He really knows his stuff and wants you to understand everything clearly. Not the easiest, but I recommend him!
I really do not understand why Jarrod is receiving such low ratings. He is an great professor! Print out the power points, take notes and listen in class, read the book and put in the time to study and you will be fine. The pop quizzes are annoying but he drops the lowest one. He's a nice guy and his sense of humor is funny because it's so awkward.
I didn't think his class was as bad as a lot of people say. As long as you study, read the textbook, and pay attention in lecture, it isn't that hard to do well.
Everyone says he is extremely hard, but he really is not that bad. I loved having him as my psychology professor. He does hate it when people skip class but towards the end of the semester he gets really relaxed about quizzes and such. There are also extra credit opportunities!
Jarrod is actually a pretty good teacher, just study and you will do fine! He's very knowledgeable about the subject, and he wants his students to succeed. I would definitely recommend him!
Professor Hines did a great job teaching the material. He used examples for just about everything that really helped me understand. Some of the questions on the quizzes and exams are worded very tricky, but he always has bonus questions to make up for it. I highly recommend Hines! I didn't read the book and still got an A.
Professor Hines knows what he is talking about and is very helpful if you need him to be. He encourages class discussion, and if you talk he is never negative towards you even if what you say is wrong. His tests are hard because of the way he words them, but you just have to think outside of the box sometimes. There is one easy homework assignment.
He is such a hard professor. he got side tracked way too much during his class and his tests are hard. I wouldn't recommend him.
He was awful. Lectures were black and white power points, and super dry. I could not keep my eyes open to save my life. He is rude and arrogant and drop the f bomb very unprofessionally. He gives pop quizzes that are very hard. He will call people out when they hiccup loud. Not engaging and super awkward. He is unclear and exams are hard.
Professor Hines is very knowledgeable when it come to psychology. However, his tests are extremely hard and unclear. His study guides are just a snapshot of what is on the test and on the test it is worded much more difficult. I studied for 3-4 hours for each test and my highest grade on them has been a C+.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. He is the worst teacher ever. Although smart, he does not present the material well at all. He tried too hard to be funny and was demeaning towards students. As for his tests, they were so random and weirdly worded. I basically taught myself for this class.
This guy is horrible I have taken over ten 100 level classes and this more like a 300 level class. I would never recommend him. Tests are very hard the best score I got was a D and I studied very hard. Very wordy, when he said it was going to be a broad overview of Psychology.
He has the potential to be a good prof, but it's quite obvious that he is new. I felt that the textbook was more helpful, HOWEVER his encouraged discussions made class more interesting/less boring. And yes, the ppt slides were dreadfully bland.
Jarrod was by far my best proff. He was very clear in his lectures and added a wolverine or reddit joke from time to time. His tests are not THAT difficult, unless you're an idiot. If all you do is party then yes, you will suck at this class. I will take the next level class w/ him after how well he did. 10/10, would grab a beer w/ Dr. Hines
I don't really understand the criticism for Hines. He is a decent professor, if you study moderately for the tests and quizzes there's no reason you shouldn't get an A. Some test questions are worded strangely and he can sometimes talk too fast during lecture but he is always willing to answer questions or go back to previous ppt slides.
I definitely didn't think Hines was the worst professor in the world, but he is a tough one. I found myself having to look over/teach myself some of the content because he would talk way to fast in lecture. It is very easy to get sidetracked because he makes it very bland. Wouldn't be the first person I recommend as a psych teacher though.
in the beginning his class was really hard and I did not like him at all. in the end he started to be better and gave extra credit opportunities and things to help boost your grade. his tests are pretty hard you need to study lecture and book. his quizzes are also very hard
DO NOT TAKE HIM! He was all over the place, tests are difficult, and worst of all I felt that he did not treat his students with respect. He is very smart, and he will let you know it. He could be very good if he tried to help you learn vs throwing information at you.
Gives out handouts to the PowerPoints that make lectures easy to follow. Very easy class if you study for the tests and do the extra credit. Can be a little crazy sometimes, if the class is too loud.
Overall not a terrible professor. The tests are a little tricky, he words some things in ways that are hard to grasp, so make sure you really, REALLY understand the concepts before taking the test! He's a little rude as well, but overall funny and knowledgeable.
I don't know why my thoughts are so different but I thought he was an ok professor. Always helpful, and I never saw him be demeaning towards students. The only time I had a hard time understanding something was if I had missed class. I would recommend him, but not if you don't want to put work into a 100 level course.
Jarrod is extremely helpful when it comes to understanding the material. If you ask him a question during lecture, he will first think about what you said, plan out his answer, and then give you his best answer he can. He makes the tests and quizzes very fair, and he makes lecture interesting. By far my favorite class so far, I would recommend it.
He was a very helpful professor when you asked him a question he gave you the best answer he can give or he would direct you to somewhere that has a better answer. He was very unclear at times and it made the class a little confusing. But overall I think he is a great professor.
Offers few points throughout the semester, so make every point count. Fairly standard 200 level course, some questions on tests are directly out of the book NOT mentioned in class. However, he does offer extra credit and gives out study guides before tests. He can be a little controlling when it comes to class behavior.
Jarrod was awful. He is condescending, lectures are straight from the book, and exams are extremely hard. Everything is straight from the book and he tries to trick you during exams. Everything is the students fault and he always acts as if we are children rather than college students.
He is new so I will cut him some slack. His lectures are boring. He basically reads off the power point and the information is very basic. His tests are ridiculous. The information he wants you to know for the test is way more difficult than his information in his powerpoints. If you want a good grade, you better read the text book.
Professor Hines was new when I had him, so I will cut him so slack. He was not an awful professor, but his classes are SO boring. I could barely keep my eyes open. His PPs are bland and straight from the textbook. Read over the study tips he gives and read the book cover to cover and you will get in the A to B range in the class.
I know what's it like to have a tough professor that doesn't care. Jarrod isn't like that. He is a good teacher and makes everything clear and understandable. The tests are not hard if you study and pay attention in class. Personally, I didn't really read the book. I don't think you need it as long as you go to class.
BE SURE TO READ THE TEXTBOOK. His exams are right out of the text; most material covered in lecture is not on the exams. Hines is very monotonous and has no problem swearing at students when he is having personal problems. Definitely would not recommend if you do not want to read an extremely boring book.
Jarrod Hines is great, he cares about his students and makes the class content interesting. Read the book because there are questions on the test from them and pay attention in class, it's easy. There is one group project, a paper, and that was probably the worst part. Otherwise, take him!
Covers multiple perspectives, focuses on issues with diversity, gives examples based on research, and is always willing to answer questions in or outside of class. Covers material from the book and uses useful videos and examples to explain material. Graded fairly, gave 2-4 extra questions on exams and 2-3 points back when many got one wrong.
Awesome at what he does. He is fair with his grading and expectations.
Jarrod is a young professor, and you can tell. He is smart, knows his content and in class discussions are stimulating. HOWEVER, his lectures only cover a small portion of what you're expected to know. On his weekly quizzes (D2L) you're consistently thinking "we didn't go over this" -- Be prepared to study the book. If you work hard you're good.
Professor Hines was a decent teacher. I didn't mind his lectures but they were off a powerpoint which got a little long. He was pretty funny and very intelligent. He's a tough grader and thinks that if students do well on the test that he needs to make them harder. UMMM NO. I studied very hard to get good test grades..
Jarrod is incredibly smart and I really enjoy his teaching style. I have taken two of his classes and I am registered to take a third. If you ask a question, he will contemplate for a minute, then formulate an answer that explains what he is talking about with clarity. He gives great lectures with a lot of information and examples to make sense!
Jarrod is a very young professor, and because of that, he hasn't quite figured out the best way to do things yet. He's often very high-strung and doesn't always respond well to the class's confusion. The assignments you get are incredibly long and time-consuming, but they're not that hard if you make sure to do them right.
Read the lecture notes and it's a guaranteed B if you read the book for details and A on exams. Not necessary to go to class because he talks about topics in simplified ways and the exams are a lot more difficult.
Jarrod has become a very good professor. I took his first ever Research Methods class, and at times he got confused or frustrated, but overall did a great job engaging students during lecture, providing helpful info on D2L, and guiding us in all our assignments and the massive group research project. Probably the easiest prof. for Research Methods.
Jarrod is a nice guy. However, he is an awful professor. He is very unclear and his class is so unorganized. You will have no idea what is going on. The lectures and labs don't line up and its just a mess. Also, he has no idea how to express himself or explain things to help the students understand. There is a lot of work with little guidance.
I took psych 230 online with Jarrod and it was a breeze compared to his in-class 230 class (apparently). He was always available for questions and helpful. 1 chapter per day, 1 homework assignment per day, and a test at the end of every week. I never read the book and got an A-. I really thought it was doable in a 3 week time frame!
Jarrod's Powerpoints are vague and the explanations and examples he gives in class are unclear. Gives comprehension checks for grades so by the time he sees you don't understand, you've already failed the check. Gets frustrated when students don't understand material. Can be very patronizing and disrespectful toward students. Would not recommend.
the whole class prepares you for the group research project. you have 4+ people in your group. he sucks at explaining the assignments. he goes over things too quickly. he frequently asks if you have questions, but if you ask him something he makes you feel like an idiot. don't think i'd ever take a class or a course with him again. required course.
Jarrod is very passionate, he really does care. But he is unorganized and gives out a lot of small things and is not clear on whats important. The material for this class is by nature boring so don't blame him too much. However this class is not hard, just annoying. Jarrod please organize your D2L and stop grading the in class work harshly.
Jarrod clearly cares about this subject, but the class can be disorganized and is a lot of work. Many lab grades are group based grades, and it can be overwhelming. There are comprehension checks almost every class for a grade, so make sure you read and understand the material! He's always there for help however if you need it, which helps a lot.
After 4 years here there were only two classes I genuinely did not enjoy, this was one of them. Pop quizzes, monotonous homework, and even deception in some cases(fake homewrk wtf). Overall I give the class a rating of 1. I like Jarrod as a person just not really as a professor, I suppose this would be a difficult class for any professor to teach.
In my entire life I can only say I have had a handful of bad teachers. Jarrod is one of them. Along with this everything you learn in this class feeling useless, the entire experience has been awful. Jarrod needs to take a serious look at how he conducts this course. The subject matter is not difficult, Jarrod makes it difficult.
Jarrod is a really cool guy, and he can relate to students very well because he's young. However, he is a tough grader on the homework assignments that are ridiculously unrelated to class which is frustrating. The multiple choice section on the exam is hard and I found it very different from lecture but the short answer part of the exam wasn't bad.
Jarrod really is a nice guy, but this class was terrible. It's a hard class regardless of who teaches it, but he gives out an undoable amount of homework on top of an already difficult class and the semester-long group project is a nightmare at best. I wouldn't recommend the class, but if you have to take it, Jarrod will get you through it.
Good class, not bad take it in the summer! Lot of work, but easy A.
Jarrod is funny and has a great personality; he is hilariously sarcastic. The class is extremely difficult but he tells you that the first day. Make sure you pick a good group and take awesome notes throughout the semester on how to decide which analyses to run depending on the study type. This will help immensely with the SPSS final.
This Class (Research Methods) is rated as THE most difficult psychology class, on nearly every campus I could find. This class was not easy, it was not fun. It requires a lot of effort, but it can be done. And remember, once its over, it all gets easier from her on out. I marked "yes I would take him again", but I'm not sure.
This class is very demanding and tedious. If you're like me, the lectures will leave you feeling confident, because the information is clear; but the labs/homework destroy that pretty quickly. If you have a busy schedule, it's difficult to find time to work with your group on the project, which can leave you feeling behind. Required class.
VERY TIME CONSUMING. I spent about 5-6 hours on this 3-week class per night (to achieve an A). Each day is a different chapter in the book and a quiz and homework assignment. I never met Jarrod in person, but even through e-mail you can tell he really cares and wants us to succeed! Very interesting, easy class IF effort is put in! :)
Good amount of work associated with the 3 week summer class but it was well worth it! There is a quiz everyday (14 of them) during the week in addition to a discussion post and response to other classmates posts. Quizzes weren't bad if you used your resources. I really liked Jarrod, any time I emailed him he was very helpful! Take during summer!!!
If you want to do well on his exam, read every chapters assigned for the exam, then reread them again. Don't assume the test will only include questions on his study "hints", although his short answer questions will be exactly what he gave you on the study hint. Believe me and you will thank me because it took me half a semester to figure this out.
I took his psych 230 class online over winter term. It was a 4 week course I got done a week and a half early, it is easy to work ahead. He is a great professor, lectures were fun to listen to and he gives good feedback. I highly recommend taking this on winter term!
Jarrod is a good professor, and really wants students to do well in class. He makes himself available and tries to help if students ask for it. The class can be super tough, and there is a lot of work to do for it, but he tries to make it as manageable as possible.
I HIGHLY recommend taking a class with Jarrod. I went into 271 thinking I would hate it, and although it was hard I learned a ton and I don't regret taking the class with him at all. If you put in the work, it is very possible to get an A. I've taken more classes with him too, and loved all of them.
Took this class online over winter. Jarrod has got to be the most organized professor i have ever had! He is CRYSTAL clear with his expectations and never leaves you guessing on assignments. Super fast with email response and engaging lectures. He gives you everything to do right in the beginning so you can EASILY work ahead. Would take again!
Jarrod is young so he's aware of present issues. He is opinionated about some things but he is still professional. All the homework and quizzes are through D2L which is convenient but there are no reminders so you have to plan ahead and remember to complete them (which i did not). His lectures are thorough and he is overall a good professor.
Jarrod is a nice guy but the work load given for the class is insane and tedious. He makes you take a test worth roughly seven percent of your grade that takes 12+ hours to do and most of the info on the you will have only learned for the test. That being said he is generally available outside of class and gives good feedback. Get ready to work.
In my option, Jarrod is hands down my favorite psych professor. He cares a lot about how his students are doing and if they understands the material. He gives a lot of homework but it honestly helps you learn the stuff. He is very quick to answer all emails and is incredibly helpful. Definitely take Jarrod for methods - you won't regret it.
Jarrod is pretty chill and he knows his stuff. He enjoys when students ask questions related to the content that he can answer in depth. It's hard that a lot of test content is found from the book and not from lectures. He places a strong emphasis on students' wellbeing and mental health which is something you don't see a ton in professors
I took this as a 3 week summer class and it was intense. Expect to take about 5-6 hours each day on reading, lecture, homework, and a quiz. Overall, I learned a lot in a short amount of time! Jarrod is really helpful and responds quickly to questions via email. He really wants you to do well!
Great class, even better teacher. Big fan of Jarrod and he teaches the class very well. Highly advised.
Jarrod is honestly the most down to earth professor. He is AMAZING. He is so caring of his students. take him!!!!!!!!!!! now!!!
GREAT guy, very open and helpful, really makes you feel like he wants you to succeed and is willing to accomodate to make sure you do so. He is very down to earth and provides lots of good examples to help you understand. not overly hard, but you have to put in the work.
Jarrod has been one of my favorite professors at UWEC. He cares about every student, and really wants everyone to succeed. You do need to put in the work, but it is worth it. You will gain so much from his courses, and he is always willing to help!
Jarrod has been my favorite professor at UWEC. He gives great feedback on homework assignments and quizzes. He has engaging lectures that make learning fun. He cares for his students, wanting them to succeed and he is incredibly quick at responding to emails. There are a lot of readings but they are manageable. Definitely take his class!
Get ready to cry!
My favorite professor ever. Such a funny and understanding guy. He shows he cares about his students and their academic achievement. You do have to work a little bit for your grade, but overall the assignments take about 20-30 minutes max.
Jarrod seems to be a nice guy and an ok teacher. I could not figure out how to use the website, and he looked at me like I was stupid and proceeded to not help me with my questions. After I dropped the class, I was told he talked about me in front of the class saying how it was dumb that I dropped at the time I did. Not. A. Fan.
This was a fairly easy class with a few big projects. The teacher was nice and very helpful. He was approachable and I feel like he wanted us to do well in his class. Also, no exams!
Literal king, best prof I've had yet. He's so funny, and this class is really easy. There are some big assignments but he has the instructions clearly laid out very nicely and explained really well. I enjoyed showing up to class twice a week because he was so funny, and I learned a lot. Its a very good class, and I highly recommend Jarrod.
My favorite professor ever. He was the most human professor and admits his mistakes. He gives great feedback and truly cares for his students.
This was a required course for me- I choose Jarrod's because I was told it was the better option. Horrible advise. This course made me feel stupid and inadequate. I would not recommend him, he often says the material is "elementary level" which is just rude if you don't get it. This made me feel plain stupid for not understanding. AVOID THIS
Prof. Hines is my favorite professor at uwec, he is harsh and to the point but is always willing to help when asked. He knows when his students are stressed and will always be willing to help.
I really enjoyed taking my class with Jarrod he really does seem to care about his job and will give you enough direction and time to make it through and find your way in Psych. Loved his straight up personality and ability to command a classroom.
It is clear that Jarrod cares a lot about his students and the classes he teaches. He is a fair grader and makes sure to not over assign projects if he can't get them graded in a reasonable time frame. It is really important to check canvas because he will put assignments on there and not tell you about them, and he also doesn't accept late work.
I decided to take Jarrods class because many students typically like him as a professor. I did not find him a good professor by any means, our important assignments did not receive any feedback for weeks beyond the due date and he does not help as much as he should.
I attended all the classes because I really enjoyed them. He is very funny and clearly is knowledgeable on the subject he's teaching. He definitely cares about his job. I appreciate that he is honest about his outside life and is passionate about his work. Sometimes he comes off as pompous to some students, I didnt experience that. He is great.
Jarrod is very kind and understanding - as long as you communicate with him. 102 is an easy course. Most of his grading is done based on completion. If you get it done and it looks like you put at least a little thought into it, you'll get a good grade. Be straight up with him; he's big on mutual respect. He's "quirky" and quite frankly hilarious.
Jarrod is definitely an interesting character. He's a little over the place, but by all means very organized. This class is definitely heavy, a lot of group work and takes some time to understand concepts. Nonetheless, good time management will get you by amazingly. Just make sure to quickly take in mind who you'd like to work with. (choose wisely)
Jarrod is a good professor, always clear about his plans and assignments, and grades fairly (although he doesn't accept late work). Most of this class is writing and reflection based, and he canceled plenty of classes to give us work time. If you know how to manage your time and work independently, you'll do great with Jarrod!
This class is difficult but jarrod is a good teacher. You need to go to class, pay attention, and actually learn the material you are given. The first part of the semester is really easy. The hardest part of this class for me was the spss exam. So actually learn how to do it. Jarrod will help you, you just need to ask. stay focused during class.
I liked Professor Hines as a teacher, I just wish that the class offered easier homework because there was a ton of reading for the homework assignments and it was a bit difficult to understand. Overall, you could tell that he was passionate about what he was talking about and he gave really good feedback in general.
Class was easy for the most part, but for a level 100 class, the final project was very hefty. Plenty of time was given, but it took a lot more of my time than anything in my level 300 class did (including that final project). Also towards the end Jarrod seemed to be almost fed up with the class. He does answer emails very quickly which was nice.
This was the worse class I have ever taken in high school or college. This class will kick your a**. I had this professor for another class and loved it however in this class if you ask a question he thinks you should know he will send out an email to the entire class with a petty response. The grading is unclear and he is a very hard grader
This class starts out easy but quickly changes to hard material taught at a fast pace. Many times he would share how homework assignments won't be on the final or be useful in the future but must be completed. He is a harsh condescending grader and the workload is heavy and difficult. Prepare to spend dozens of hours a week on this class. BEWARE!
Jarrod has very laid-back policies and overall was very laid back himself but beware if you miss a due date, he does lock assignments and will not let you do them, so his deadlines are very strict. Overall, I really liked discussion days with him they felt very real and personal, and I really enjoyed his class. Jarrod was also very helpful.
I first want to say he is a wonderful professor and truly does care about his work. This class should not be taken as a senior. to succeed in this course you.. homework assignments sometimes twice a week with 12 (Abc) questions, then a quiz, discussions, reflections at the end of the week and10 page paper at the end of the semester with a partner.
Don't ever switch tabs on the canvas quizzes! Class was interesting enough, weekly quiz and homework from a reading but nothing too bad. Quizzes are all textbook material though so going to class seems pointless except that we had graded discussions you have to be there for. Standard lecture style course, not difficult to get a good grade.
The class was good overall, a little harder than I expected because of the content. There were a lot of textbook readings/information in lecture that was overwhelming at times, but it was interesting. Jarrod is really passionate about the topic which makes it more interesting.
Professor Hines is amazing. He was extremely passionate about the content in this class and it makes you want to show up and listen to everything he has to stay because it is all to help you. If you show up and show respect to him and his content, it is an easy class that is a ton of fun. Would for sure take more classes with him if I could!
DO NOT take him unless you want to cry every day of the semester, especially psyc271. He has way too high of expectations. I took him even though people told me not to because his classes are quite challenging. No... they're impossible. Listen to others when they tell you not to take his classes.
Started the course with around 25 students online, by week 4 there are 8 students left in the course. The entire course is ba
The content is good. You need to read the textbook for quizzes. My main issues with the class were that he was unprofessional and rude while handling a potential cheating issue that was partly caused by his miscommunication. The final assignment wasn't designed well and was stressful. I'd avoid him unless it's a class I'm really excited about.
I'm not sure that the way Jarrod teaches this class is actually conducive to learning or if he cares more about holding students accountable and "preparing them" for the future (not sure what that means). It's disorganized, unclear, not very direct and all around feels like I'm drowning.
Definitely one of the most stressful classes. I think if you had the opportunity to take it with someone else, DO IT. I can see why people like Jarrod and if you had a solid background in stats and methods, you'd probably be fine. For me, this class felt like playing catch up every day and just had no idea what was going on 75% of the time.
It depresses me to hear students in the other Psych 271 say they aren't super stressed about this class. He saves all the massive assignments for basically the end. So you think you're doing well, ur not! Really shows how a professor can make or break it. For a guy who talks about “letting go of your ego” he sure has a massive one.
You can tell this class stresses him out which, in turn, I think makes him hate his students or something. This is probably his worst class. Whatever you do, do not take him. You need to just figure out your schedule because if you have to t
If you want to cry yourself to sleep every night then you should take this class! We were forced to find a group to work with for almost the entire semester during the second week of class. Also, get ready to learn how to do SPSS by yourself because he doesn't teach you how to do it.
Not to be dramatic but this class will make you want to kys
Don't think about even missing an assignment or coming up with an excuse for his class. He probably wouldn't even care if you were on your death bed... But oh .. his "excessive care for his students" or "bluntness" is an excuse for it.
Don't take this class if you don't want to spend hours listening to online lectures and reading the book... Quizzes are lockdown which is fine, but they're hard quizzes. I've taken two classes with him, and can say I won't be taking another. He makes the classes harder than they should be and doesn't seem to care about students.
Methods is a hard class because of the content, not because of Jarrod. He was helpful and clear and his dry sense of humor made me smile. If you come into the class wanting an easy A or wanting to be lazy, you will struggle. But if you want your college classes to actually feel like college, take Jarrod.
Jarrod is very blunt, but will be understanding if you have a situation at home (as long as its considered an excused absence). You get 8 unexcused absence and then you fail the class. Jarrod assigns lots of homework, most of it busy work. He will respond to emails within a day usually faster.
This class for people who: Want to go to grad school for research. This class not for people who: Are taking 18 credits or who have a job-he does not recommend it, Can't get medical documentation everytime they are sick, Need clear communication, Are bad with last minute changes, Want encouragement, Struggle with mental health.Terrible class.
Jarrod is a REAL professor; he provides constructive feedback and genuinely wants to see his students succeed. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you miss more than 8 classes you will be dropped. Theres lots of hw and SPSS/ final group paper is majority of your grade. As long as you put in effort you will do just fine. Pick your groups wisely!!!
This class is no easy feat - the material moves quickly and the workload is heavy. While the professor can be harsh, he's willing to help if you engage. Unstuck study and other study aids made a big difference for me. Brace yourself, but you'll learn a lot.
From the beginning, Jarrod was very clear on his expectations for the final project. The final project did take some time however you have more than enough time to do so. We would have one lecture day and one discussion day and they were very easy and entertaining. Not a lot of assignments, but the assignments that we did do were beneficial.
Very political and to the point that it's just irritating and irrelevant to lecture
Jarrod is one of the best professors I have had. He cares about students, very approachable, and very genuine. You definitely have to work hard to earn a good grade in his class but that's what I love about him. This is what I expected college to be like.
Jarrod is a great teacher and gave me a new perspective on adulthood and aging. I didn't consider working with this population until taking this class. He definitely doesn't baby students or make the class easy and I assume that could be why some students complain. I actually learned a lot from him and appreciated his no nonsense attitude.
Buckle in for a rough semester, the difficulty of this course isn't entirely the professors fault however he did very minimal effort to help students when they were struggling even after explaining to him that we already tried confused. This 200 level course felt like a 400 level class. This is the hardest class i've ever taken.
The professor was fine. one day I liked him, then next I didn't. Something that was constant tho was HOW MUCH I HATED THIS CLASS THE WHOLE SEMESTER. ACTUALLY, SCRATCH CONSTANT BECAUSE MY HATRED FOR PSYC 271 WAS EXPOTENTIAL.
I really liked him at first, and then he turned into such an opp. He has the demeanor of a guy at the bar who buys you a drink and then lingers close by for the rest of the night expecting you to go home with him. His class is straight lectures and he doesn't make any effort to get to know students. He took a huge % off the final bc of a bad link.
Straight up, this man is evil. How are you going to be rude to your students when you are the size of a leprechaun? Hines is type of guy that makes you go on alert when you and your girl are at the bar because you think he's going to put something in her drink.
Sorry psych majors this is a required class i'm pretty sure. He is very strict on that syllabus and will NOT give any sympathy to you. He docs points for the most stupid mistakes. The final project and degree plan is very time consuming so start early and work on it through the course of multiple days. Some assignments feel like time killers.
One word for this class: RUNNN!
Hines is a solid professor. If you are willing to put in the work you will do just fine. He seems like a good person who is fair and just wants students to learn.
PSYC 271 is very hard and Jarod is not help for it. The class is a level 200, but feels like a level 400 and graduate class. Jarod is a rough grader and always paranoid about students cheating to the point even homework is on lockdown browser. if you want constant anxiety and a workload of 5 classes and always crying, take this class with Jarod.
Taking this class with Professor Hines, you must be aware of some things. He is extremely fair, he will not do something for one student and not another. He is a tough grader, but that is because this content is extremely hard. He makes it clear that if you have any questions you can go to him, so I would recommend that. Pay attention in lab!
If you are ready to be treated like a college student as opposed to a first grader, take this class. From what I could tell, the students who complain about this class are looking for easy As and want someone to hold their hand every step of the way.
First class at UWEC where I felt like I got more than my money's worth. Jarrod knows his stuff, challenges you and does an excellent job educating. If you are looking to actually learn something, take this class, if you are looking for an easy A, don't
I had Jarrod for PSYC 271 & PSYC 333, & although he seems to care about you, in the end he did not. He is beyond passive-aggressive in his emails & feedback. When voicing my concerns, he told me to stick it & had no sympathy.
Took his class online. We had quizzes each week & the material was very hard, as he gave a lot of material. He did not teach & when asked for assignments to improve grade, he agreed until the end of the semester—he will not give it to you. He does not care about his students.
