do the work and if u need help will be there. best professor
Great Teacher every class was fun and interesting despite the subject matter and we rarely stayed the whole class period. He graded fairly. If you come to class everyday at least do the work you should get at least a B.
HOT- My favorite teacher! I kinda wanted to ask him out, but he is such a smart ass that I was intimidated :)
best teach ever !!!!
Interesting guy. The class was never boring. He wants a talkative class, assignments are pretty understandable. Take this class and you will not struggle with English
one of the best teachers I have had at this school.
One of my favorite professors. Class was never boring, always had fun and laughed. His assignments are not very hard his grading is not that hard either. OVERALL A GREAT CLASS AND PROFESSOR TO HAVE
you won't need a textbook for this class. i never purchased and i still got an A for the course. As long as you pay attention to his lectures, do the hw, and turn in all the papers you'll get an A for the course. If you're not an english person take his class
He is a great professor. He likes to teach, and cares if you don't understand something. Lectures are NOT boring..you will laugh a lot, he's funny. Make sure you staple your papaers, turn in all HW, and come to class.
HE IS REALLY GREAT AND EASY GOING. THE EN102 IS A BORRING CLASS AND HE MAKES IT INTERSING AND FUN. HE BRINGS INTERESTING ISSUES TO TALK ABOUT AND WE BARELY TOUCHED THE BOOK(BUT MAYBE BECAUSE IT WAS SUMMER SEMESTER)
GREAT PROFESSOR!!!!! Even though there's lots of papers in his class, he still makes them really interesting and exciting! Great teaching style. He gives out lots of papers, but they are all really interesting topics. No quizes and tests. Overall a GREAT PROFESSOR!!!!
Awesome teacher! Really keeps the class interesting. Your going to write a lot of papers, but it's not that bad. He hates it when you don't staple papers though. Otherwise, awesome teacher!
He is a great teacher. The only class I ever like in college. Very easy if you write his papers plus the things he tells you to right about are fun and not boring and he is funny and keeps the class entertained. I recommend to take his class for sure !
Professor Slacks is a great professor. He keeps the class interesting so you won't get bored. He lets you choose what to write about and is always willing to help you step by step to make sure you have a good paper at the end. Do not buy the text book! We didn't go anywhere it.
Cool teacher and keeps class interesting. He's an easy grader and lets you pick your topics. Don't pay intention in the beginning of the semester of him saying he's hard professor, cause he isn't. Just do the papers and you'll be fine.
I loved this class. He really knows how to make people participate and keep things interesting. It's easy to pass the class as long as you do all the assignments (he told us this a lot) and they were fun, in my opinion. Probably my favorite professor yet.
I love this professor! He is the type of teacher that makes you think. He is very funny and makes class entertaining. My favorite teacher from this school by far. It was a pleasure to have him for a teacher. Mr. Slacks you Rock!
Great teacher! class is fun to go to and makes everything interesting. you wont get bored my favorite class of this semester and you wont find a better teacher than him.
AMAZING PROFESSOR!!!
Dude, my favorite professor ever in MC. He knows how to deal it with students. He turned boring lectures into interesting ones.Extremely helpful and cheerful professor. He knows if class is not interested, changes the topic to involve every body in discussion.I bet once you take this class, you would want to take EN 102 also with him.
BEST ENGLISH PROFESSOR EVER!His lectures are defenetly not boring. He tries to make the class laugh and keeps the class involved. He is always available when you need him. I strongly recommend him.
best english teacher i've ever had. he's very hepful and teaches you what you need to know. take his class if you feel you have poor writing skills or if you're not really interested in english classes.
he is very very smart, he loves his job and work 100%, he wants to give u knowledge, u are allowed to skip up to 5 classes before he will drop u off, due day is 100$ must be done on time otherwise he will accept it but -30 point from 100.
Best professor i have ever had, very knowledgable and helpful. take him!
This is a great professor. He is knowledgeable and patient. He deducts points for lateness, but he mentions this several times so that you are aware of the consequence. Be prepared to do a lot of writing. I love the fact that he actually gives you a guideline as to what he expects or does not expect when submitting your assignment.
He is the best English prof. ever!!! So knowledgable and gives a clear guideline about the works along with his expectations. If u want to do u'r writing better , take him..
He's a nice teacher but he crams that work in there!
This teacher do not know what pedagogy is. He is too rigid. he do not know that student can have problem. He always take 30 points out for late work even if you explain to him what you're going trough. the class is not hard but he can failed you only by taking point out. it's very frustrating to have teacher that can not understand student.
Prof Slacks is a good instructor. He explains everything in details and you understand what he expects from you. I learned a lot from him about other subjects as well. He talks about things you really need in your life and writing. It is only your choice not to earn A/B. Expect writing assignments almost every class (help your grade and writing).
Prof Slacks is one of the bests. He loves his job.his class is an essay A but only if u show up in class.U should be ready to summit his homework on time.(keep it up prof Slacks!)
He is very rude in grading. Few people in my class can get an A.
Awesome professor. He makes the subject interesting. His papers are not that hard. However, you won't get to freely pick a topic for the final paper if u take his class during the summer. He'll have five topics listed that you pick out of. I got a B, could've gotten an A but I'm satisfied.
Prof Slacks is a cool guy but a tough grader. Bottom line is, if you are looking for a chill and easy class - don't take him. He will significantly improve your writing skills though. His feedback is harsh, but helps for the best. Must submit papers on time- always. A LOT of writing and expect homework everyday.Keep it real prof Slacks!
Great professor! Good assignments. I learned a heck of a lot. Nice guy, you will learn a lot and it's tough, but in a good way. If you want a good teacher that will teach you a lot and have fun, this is the guy.
I had him for Creative Writing, which was his college major. As a professor he always had a good attitude and knew what he was talking about. If you ever take a Creative Writing class at MC, take Slacks.
Slacks is a great professor. If he sees you struggling within his class he notices instantly and will talk to you personally on how to improve. Make sure you do ALL of his assignments and ON TIME. He is one of the best english profs to take at MC Rockville, he will help you whenever you need it esp if English isn't your best subject.
I loved taking EN101 with him. His class is fun and my writing definitely improved. Definitely take his class!!
Great Professor but there are thing you need to know to succeed.1) He hates over embellished papers, get to the point. 2) He HATES emotional appeals. Best not to do them at all. 3) He hates long paragraphs. Even if everything you have to say in the paragraph is relevant to your message, just divide the paragraphs to ensure they're not too long.
HE GREADES VERY HARD.I HAD A 4.0 GPA BEFORE HIM. I TOOK HIM FOR ENGL101 AT SUMMER AND HE ENDED UP GIVING ME B, FOR THE MATTER OF FACT HE ONLY GAVE 2Bs FOR THAT CLASS. HE GAVE ME 94 FOR THE FIRST DRAFT AND 87 FOR THE LAST AFTER I ADRESSED ALL HIS FEEDBACKS. IF YOU DON'T MIND ABOUT YOUR GRADE TAKE HIM, BUT IF YOU DO, AVOID HIM. IT DOESN'T WORTH IT!!!
If I have to take more EN classes and he's teaching it, I would defiantly take it with him. The best Professor I've ever had.
Good sense of humor; helps you if you help yourself. Overall a tough grader but if you read his feedback and ask questions you'll be a ok
Prof. Slacks loves teaching and he is fun. He tries to be very helpful, but sometimes he was confusing. I couldn't always figure out why I got the grades I got on papers. He is really interested in seeing his students succeed, so go see him if you aren't doing well. English 102 is a lot of work! But probably better with him than many others.
He made me love English. His lectures are awesome. He will help you if you struggle on something and he will provide good feedback in your paper. I would take him again if i could. However, He is very picky on the way he grades your papers, not easy yo Ace the class if you suck at writing.
He is the best English Professor at mc hands down. He will teach you to think differently and he will help you become a better writer. Work with him and you will get an A.
Slacks is great prof, he is funny with his lectures and when you have essay he gives you sample essays of what he expects. He is energetic and it is easy to stay awake in his class. Some times he does go off topic when looking at a argument, though its funny when he does. Grading wise, he is a fair grader and gives you time to revise a essay.
An amazing professor. He teaches you way beyond what professors are required to cover. He makes sure he engages you and relates to you. He is very big on current topics and civil rights. Would highly recommend taking him if you would like to learn a life lesson or two or three..
Probably the best English professor you will ever have. Lectures are very funny and are crystal clear! Also, he really makes you think critically during all his lectures. Not too many are capable of getting an A in his class, but he WILL improve your writing! Textbook isn't really needed honestly (trying to save you money). So, TAKE HIM!!!
I thought he was a good professor at the start of the semester, as the semester went on, it just got worse; it felt like he would grade our papers not on clear grading criteria, but more on what grade the paper "felt like." At one point I got a C for a paper i wrote on a controversial topic, he couldn't even tell me why i got the grade i did. AVOID
I took him over the summer, and I enjoyed his class. Like the reviews say below he will help your writing improve and will teach you beyond what other teachers will teach. But don't take him if you want an easy A.
He makes his lectures interesting, and he is quite funny as well. I like how he has time through office hours to proofread essays. He is a fair grader as well. This class is a lot of work, but I'm happy I chose him. He also gives many opportunities for extra credit. He definitely made me a better writer.
Initially, I didn't understand his expectations in reading assignments and struggled the first couple of weeks in his class. Once I realized that he wanted the author's intentions analyzed and our reactions instead of characters and literary style, my grades improved. Brilliant perspective and helps you find your creative voice. Very appreciable.
After you write one assignment for him he will have you labeled to a certain grade that he believes you should earn throughout the semester. He loves to give B's and no matter how much detail you use he will still write "explain more" as his feedback. The guy thinks he's a Harvard professor. Needs to tone it down a notch this is mc.
Amazing and hilarious professor. Very organized and interesting class. You never get bored and gives you lots of examples to write your essays. Make sure to do your HW.
don't take his class if you want get an A. He gives lots of assignments
Be prepared to do a lot of writing. I believe that every week you have to write an essay. Tough grader
He is a really great professor and cares about his students. He does give a lot of work but that is standard through the 102 classes. He makes it easy to pass and gives a lot of advice and feedback and wants to see his students pass with A's. I really liked having him as a professor.
I don't recommend taking this professor. Some people appreciate his strict policies/philosophy on teaching and crude sense of humor, but to others it is extremely annoying. I dropped him a month into the semester and it was one of the best choices I could have made for both my mental health and GPA.
I really enjoyed having him! He really cares about his students. It is a lot of work, but of you seek his help you will be fine.
This Professor is my fav English instructor ever! Though he is tough on the outside, he is a caring person on the inside. I used to not only consult my academic work, but also my personal development with this Professor. Just work on your business and prove him you have maximized your effort, then you'll be good. Just be patient with yourself ;)
I got C for English 101, but a B for 102 which is harder. So he's a tough grader. A C in his class is equivalent to a solid B in every other classes.
He grades your papers fairly and understands that not everyone has the same writing skills. It's easy to get a high B or an A if you turn in your papers on time and do the work. He may seem tough and strict but he is very understanding and considerate.
Gives a lot of writing assignments, but doesn't grade very harshly. Doable as long as you don't forget anything.
He is probably the best professor I ever had. His classes are interesting and engaging. Basically he motivates you to think (like it is supposed to be in college). If you are bad in writing essays, he will teach you how to improve! But don't expect an easy A. Although I got an A, I worked hard for it. He is hilarious as well.
Professor Slacks is very nice and kind. He gives detailed lectures on how to write a good essay and he gives A's as long as you organize your essay well and mention facts from New York Times and Washington Post he loves that. Just put in the hard work and he will give you an A.
Professor Slacks is a zany, fair grader and if you do all of your assignments there is a great chance of passing with a B or higher. He understands that everybody has different writing techniques and takes that into consideration while grading. He does not expect you to be a perfect writer; this class will help you get there.
Prof. Slacks gives great feedback and is genuinely interested in helping students succeed. He is a semi tough grader but if you put in the extra effort then youll do great!
Great at engaging and challenging his students to think critically, also amusing and lively throughout his lectures. Keeps class interesting while also helping educate and sharpen students writing skills. Overall great professor and I would recommend anyone with a sense of humor or outgoing personality to take his course.
Best professor. Very helpful
Awesome guy I had during the summer school session. Although he is a little bit of a tough grader but very very very helpful!!
Great professor, really cares about his students and is willing to help you with your coursework in order to pass. Easy A as long as you put in the necessary work.
Unlike any other prof I've had at MC. It's clear that he loves teaching & takes his job seriously. His lectures are engaging, funny, and memorable. If you come to class & listen to what he's saying, none of the assignments should be too difficult. Definitely my favorite professor, and his feedback on any first drafts you give him is really helpful.
Prof. Slacks is concise when lecturing. Often class would end early. He explains writing well. You will write papers definitely, and you have to put hard work into them. He doesn't assign that much homework, he doesn't have his students do the most, and he is chill. If you do your part, he'll do his part.
A great teacher, gives a heavy load of assignments and attendance is required but balances out by being an easy grader. Also makes up for work load by giving interesting lectures and working with you on a personal level. He seems like he actually cares, which is cool.
He's super insightful, gives you great feedback on papers and seems like he cares about all of his students passing. Lot's of writing for homework but Slacks picks topics that are extremely easy to write about let alone relevant!! He's cool, good guy
Prof. Slacks is good with his lecture. He makes you participate in the class. He explains and helps you in your assignments. He does not appreciate if you miss more than two classes and does not like if you come late. I like discipline and I agree that late comers distract others. My experience in his class was good and I am willing to repeat him.
I am not a fan of English but Slacks made it fun for me. His lectures were great and really helpful. Grades seriously for attendance. No late work accepted. Work load is high up there so if you can't handle it or don't want to then don't take him. Offers A LOT of help with writing assignments. Overall great professor for English so don't be afraid.
Prof. Slacks is an engaged teacher. He expects you to show up, be on time, put effort into your writing, and turn all assignments in by the due date. He doesnt except late work. The projects take work, but Prof. Slacks will give you feedback on how to improve each time and will give feedback on your essay drafts. He was a good professor.
I took Engl101A with professor J. Slacks and got B, before joIning him again for Engl264 again. This time I could push myself for An A. He is a fair grader. He understands that every student is unique. He promotes every students ability and gives equal opportunity. If you do your assignments and attend his class, you will probably get an A or B.
DO NOT !!! take this teacher unless youre ready to work real hard. He is more then a tough grader. I worked so hard on my papers and still got a low B. He grades even on attendance( being late) . Also he expect everything to be turn in ASAP when its due... no late work. If you want an Easy A look else where. If you want some challenge, Good luck
This professor made me very disappointed. I took him during the time where MC made all classes remote due to the worldwide pandemic. I deserved a B and he gave me a C because I turned 2 things in an hour later than it was due and this was purely on accident due to me working full-time as a front line worker in the health care field. do not take him
Professor Slacks is very matter of fact. Do the work, turn it in on time and be punctual for class. Hes grading scale is a bit different. I think it depends on his mood and subject matter.
He is literally the best professor I've ever had. He was very clear about assignments and offered to look over drafts (if needed). It was only a 6 week class and online only so we had an essay every week but he gave us more than enough time to complete and research. He is an easy grader and gave amazing lectures! I would def take his class again :)
Make sure to turn your papers in by the due date, he does not accept late work. He isn't extra, as long as you have everything he asked you for in the paper, you will have a good grade. Personally I think he gives a reasonable amount of papers and gives us enough time to finish them. Overall a very nice and helpful teacher.
Professor Slacks was probably the best English teacher Ive ever had. He really understands that not all students are going to be amazing writers so he grades everyone fairly.
I took ENGL-264 for 7 weeks online with this professor and he's a great guy. You will read 2 short stories a week and analyze them, but he is not a strict grader. Though, he does care about students learning to think critically about stories. I like that he focuses on group discussion and allows students to workshop their personal writing.
TAKE HIS CLASS!! Professor Slacks is amazing! I took his Short Story Creative writing class and it was nothing short of perfect. Group discussion were fun and workshops were a whole other cool experience. I would say, if you do not like to read or write, do not take this class because you are often expected to write responses on two stories a week.
There was a lot of writing, but Prof gave us lots of time to finish the essays. Reminiscent of every other college professor, nothing is ever perfect. Perfection is an unattainable grade. You must truly go above and beyond. Otherwise, if you do as you're told, you will do relatively good in this class.
Clear expectations and constructive feedback. Manageable workload. Literally just follow directions, explain thoroughly, use sources heavily, and pay attention to details and you'll do fine. Don't skip class, he goes over assignment expectations in detail and basically explains how to get an A.
Prof. Slacks was a really good professor. He is funny and entertaining while at the same time good at teaching. There is a lot of writing and reading but it is an English class, so that is expected. He gives helpful and good feedback on writing. Attendance is very mandatory and if you miss class he takes points off, even if you are sick.
I had to withdraw for personal reasons, but he was a great professor. He was very understanding and willing to help as much as he possibly could. Super funny and encourages participation. His lectures were easy to understand and gave us great historical topics to write about for our essays. Very cool guy!
