Great teacher! Works through problems on the slides and is super caring! Welcoming to students during office hours and will not give up until you understand! Even though she only taught half of the class she encouraged all students to continue to come to her office hours if they had any questions! Take her you won't regret it!
She's funny and her lectures are interesting. 3 midterms and the final, no homework besides reading occasionally, 10 online labs (as in you don't have to go to your lab section unless you have questions), attendance is based on clicker questions. Really fun GE class, highly recommend.
The first half for Chem105b. A lot more organized than Broyer. Had a bunch of practice problems prepared. Since she's new, it was hard to see what to expect for the exams. Her lectures are pretty thorough and she's very approachable after class. Content like acid-bases was a bit difficult to understand. Be prepared for 8 group quizzes. Go to SI.
If you're looking for a GE to take Pass/Fail, this is the one to take. I didn't show up for two months and still passed. All the lecture material is posted online and the tests are easy multiple choice. The labs are also done at home, so attending the lab section is optional.
Easily my FAVORITE class at USC. Don't be scared that it's under chem, if you're into csi related things, this class will be so interesting for you. Lab section is optional since you can just do it at home. You do have to show up to most lectures bc of the clicker questions. The tests are multiple choice and easy if you read the slides.
She is an amazing lecturer. Makes everything super clear. The only thing is her test does not reflect what she teaches during the lectures. tests are way harder. She is super nice and accessible outside of class. The only problem I have with 105b is the lab. sometimes you get irresponsible TAs...
One of the best professors I've ever had! She's so sweet and understanding. During quarantine, she made sure to accommodate students in all time zones, and gave us THREE HOURS to complete our one our online midterms/final. She made this class 10x easier than CHEM105a. She also makes the most adorable jokes during lecture, so I'd suggest going!
If you're looking for an interesting GE to take, absolutely take Bryant's class. It doesn't require a ton of outside work which many GE's do. Bryant is a sweetheart and her lectures are extremely entertaining. She also answers questions thoroughly and is accessible outside of class. Labs are online which is a huge perk!
Class was honestly a joke. Take this for a Pass/No Pass GE. There are clicker questions, so you do kinda need to go to class. Labs are online so YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO TO LAB SECTION!! Tests were all multiple choice. Lecture slides are posted online. Professor Bryant is great. She's funny, cool, and passionate about the subject.
Bryant is a great choice for CHEM 105B and indeed a much better experience than CHEM 105A. While her exams might be long, she definitely wants to make sure students do well by providing multiple chances on quiz questions and handing out clear notes packets. The course still requires hard work, but not impossible to do well.
TAKE HER!!!! Whether it's for a GE or regular Chem class-- Prof. Bryant is amazing. If you're even slightly interested in forensic science this class will be so worth it. Lectures and slides are all online, attendance in labs are OPTIONAL but they're not easy so you should just show up (she takes attendance via poll questions) and ltrly have fun
She was super sweet and super accommodating to us during Zoom University. The class is really interesting (think CSI) yet fairly easy (just study her slides). Make sure you show up to class for those poll points (she drops lowest 10%) and actively pay attention and you will be fine! Great science gen ed and shes really funny too :D
cares about her students and does quizzes/poll questions during lecture for points (so don't skip). tests are easy to score a solid B/B+ on without too much studying. really understanding about online classes because of COVID.
For anyone who's taken high school chemistry, this class is VERY easy, significantly easier than 105a. Bryant is a great teacher who cares about the material and not grade values. Really makes students feel welcomed. Only complaint is there is too much time spent on earlier (and easier) units and not enough on inorg/o chem. SI helps a lot too!
Prof Bryant is good at teaching her material. Sometimes the lectures/videos/quizzes can be a little repetitive or slow, but her consistency is one of her strong suits. She makes the class feel personal even though it's hosted in a big lecture hall. Just study hard for the midterms!!
Dr. Bryant is very caring and wants her students to succeed! Her tests are very straightforward with some lab-based questions. It is apparent she loves her job so attending class is enjoyable. I would say the equilibrium section is the most difficult but still manageable. You should totally take her class!! I would also recommend attending SI.
She's an amazing lecturer. She will provide packets for each lecture and you can follow along easily. After we went online, she made mini lectures of 10 min ish and you can finish them by the end of the week. she made everything very accessible for us. the material is pretty easy for sure. If you have taken high school chemistry you will be fine
I love Dr. Bryant!! She genuinely cares about her students and wants you to succeed. She gives a lot of work, but its the kind of work that is an easy way to get a lot of points towards your grade. If you don't understand something, she does her best to help you.
I LOVE Dr. Bryant! She assigns a lot of work but it's all worthwhile! I don't know a single person who did badly in the class and you can tell that she really cares about everyone. She is an amazing professor and is very skilled at chemistry. Definitely take her for chem 105a -- she is an amazing human being!
I was dreading taking general chemistry since I know it's a weed out class and typically very hard. Dr. Bryant's class was the opposite - she makes sure every student has enough resources (videos, packets, practice quizzes, textbook problems, helpful websites...) to find what works for them to do well. She's so kind and funny. You'll love Dr. B!!
I love love LOVE her! She is so so sweet and understanding about the pandemic and she really cares about your mental wellbeing as well! I was so scared to take chem but she made it really easy! Only thing is that her classes are asynchronous so you watch lectures by yourself and then go to class and discuss questions! 200/10
Dr. Bryant is an absolute ANGEL. If you have the opportunity TAKE HER. You will not regret it!
WHAT A GEM! TAKE THIS CLASS! I COULD NOT RECOMMEND MORE! One thing I will say is that people kept asking for extra credit - if you are in her class, don't do that. She doesn't need to do that for you, and I'm glad she didn't. What a queen. Amazing lectures, made me love chemistry. Do the work, pay attention, and you will succeed. Do the opposite...
TAKE HER PLEASE I DONT KNOW WHY SHE DOESNT HAVE A 5/5. Very caring, genuine, and helpful. She made me be excited about chemistry. Kinda off topic but I also love how united the students are. Honestly feels like we are on a giant group FaceTime call with her. So comfy. On the last day she showed us her pet bird! Also she likes BTS music taste mwah
Dr. Bryant is amazing, and I can't recommend her more! Her online format was reverse-lecture, where you watched content videos outside and did practice questions during the synchronous class. She's super caring and makes the class low-stress with low-stakes, weekly quizzes. Stay consistent with the work and it'll be a breeze. (Love her humor, too!)
Before each meeting, we watched 2-4 brief lecture videos and took lil quizzes so we could use the whole time on Zoom to ask questions. There was a quiz worth 3% of our grade each week, no midterms, & a poster for the final. There is quite a bit of work outside of class, but it pays off! (avg grade was a 90 something in my section). BRYANT IS <3333
Absolutely love how she structured the online course for COVID (honestly prefer it more than in-person). Watch 2-4 short (8-15 min) lecture videos and take practice quizzes with unlimited attempts. Weekly quizzes are short & fairly easy if you understand the concepts. Used to hate & struggle with chem in HS, but now I love it thanks to Bryant!!
Prof Bryant is great, and she really cares about her students. Her lecture is very doable and helps learn a lot about Chem. The lab section sucks tho and is a high percent of your grade. Based off of lecture I would have received an A in the class, but because of lab I'm getting a B+, so just know that lab makes up a big portion of your grade.
Bryant is a true class act. She knows how to turn chemistry into a simple and engaging subject. It's clear that she's passionate about the subject and about her students' well-being.
Dr. Bryant is the best professor I have had. She has a lot of work due each week but it is manageable. As long as you do the weekly work it's a great class. Seriously, if you can have Bryant as a professor, there is NO reason not to. She is the best!!
Dr. Bryant is a compassionate, caring professor who wants her students to succeed. Instead of giving us midterms or final exams this semester, she gave us low-stakes weekly quizzes, pre-lecture videos and quizzes, weekly summary sheets, and packets. She has a masters in education and knows her stuff.
She's the best professor I've ever had hands down. Actually the sweetest lady and cares so much about her student's well-being. No finals or midterms, just short weekly quizzes that are non-cumulative and a final poster project. Extremely knowledgeable about chemistry and can answer any question. TAKE HER IF YOU CAN!!
She is such a nice person and an amazing prof!!! She doesn't believe in weeder classes, so it's definitely possible to get a good grade, but you also learn the material SO well. I feel very prepared for 105b next semester. There are weekly quizzes, worksheets, and "practice quizzes" (unlimited attempts and no time limit). Flipped class model works
Dr. Bryant is very caring, kind, and passionate. She definitely wants all her students to be as successful as they can. She posts lectures on youtube and her lecture sessions are mostly for review/practice problems. Be ready for weekly quizzes, they can be difficult, but are manageable. Highly recommend her!!
Dr. Bryant is the sweetest and really wants to make sure that everyone in her class is keeping up with the material. If you review before lecture and listen to others' questions, you'll be super prepared for the quizzes. Dr. Bryant really enjoys it when people are engaged and active, so be sure to participate and show her you care!
Honestly, I can't believe she's not rated a 5/5. She is AMAZING. The best chem professor at this University. There is weekly work you got to do, some find this annoying and hard, but it totally makes up for the testing and the lectures. Such an easy class and she's the sweetest person ever. 10/10. LOVE THIS PROFESSOR. BRYANT HYPE HOUSE 4EVER.
Professor Bryant's class is incredibly neat and organized. She has a weekly schedule and sticks to it perfectly. There are no surprises in her class and she's always available for outside-of-class clarifications. Overall, just an awesome class! :)
I love professor Bryant. She is so kind. If you have some kind of understanding of basic chemistry, this class will be easy. If not, Professor Bryant is willing to help students. Something about her lectures is so amazing. I was able to understand everything without getting lost. You could tell she loves to teach and that's what makes her great!
I took her for chem105a and really enjoyed her lectures and the structure of her class. However, I will say 105b got a lot harder both content and workload wise. Her weekly quizzes are whats making me anxious now (not labs) because they are getting harder each week. At this point Idk what grade Ill end up w...A LOT of extra homework every week.
I had Dr. Bryant for 105a, but she has been harder for 105b. She is a wonderful professor and I would take her class again, but you will have to work hard.
dr. Bryant is awesome. her class is difficult but her videos and class are extremely well structured and there are no surprises on the weekly quizzes. also her recommended textbook problems really help with the weekly quizzes. she is very caring and also really funny! take her!!
I said it last semester, and I'll say it again. Dr Bryant is FANTASTIC
2nd time with her. The BEST. This class was so much fun. She is charismatic and wants you to learn. She's always willing to help, and will not let you go confused. Plus, NO EXAMS. Just homework. She makes chemistry really fun and easy to understand. Nothing but love for her Do whatever you can to get Dr. Bryant.
Pls just take Bryant if you can. The mini video lectures before class are such a superior, low-stress way to learn. No exams, just weekly quizzes. This semester was much more difficult than 105a (I think cause our avg GPA was too high last sem), but Bryant is still so worth it. She wants you to succeed (which is kinda rare in classes like this!)
Amazing professor! Take her if you can. Mini lecture videos are so convenient and weekly quizzes force you not to procrastinate. She made a 200+ person zoom class fun and inviting where anyone can ask questions out loud or in the chat. She really tries to not only teach chemistry but also prepare you for the rest of college and beyond.
Dr. Bryant is such a gem! She is so helpful in answering questions and really makes lectures as engaging as possible. 105b is significantly harder than 105a, but if you go to the SI sessions and go to lecture it's manageable. Final is a project. Weekly quizzes, no tests. The weekly quizzes will not be as similar to the video quiz questions as 105a.
Got tested on some things in the quizzes that were never taught in lecture videos, so every class was us asking how to do them. Other than that, amazing & generous professor that actually cares about her students. No midterms, weekly quizzes, & a final project instead of exam. Great lecturer and very attainable A.
I think every professor could learn something from Bryant. She structured her class in a way that ACTUALLY promotes learning rather than just trying to learn what you need for an exam and throwing it away. Such a caring and chill prof, and if you have a chance, take her.
Professor Bryant is a great professor. She really cares about her students. 105a was a great experience. However, I felt like she kinda gave up teaching in 105b. The lectures weren't that helpful and the quizzes were tricky at times. The final project for both classes was super chill. You will get an A as long as you try your best.
I don't understand the hype for Bryant. She has you watch recordings instead of teaching material during class time, she's passive aggressive when students ask her questions, and she explains concepts in the most round-about ways. The class itself is not hard but she's by no means a great professor.
Dr. Bryant is amazing!! Best chem class ever! She makes this "weed-out" class become way more collaborative. Go to office hours and ask ALL your questions, she will walk through problems with you. She wants you to succeed. DO the workbook pages on time, they help you prep your quizzes. Textbook problems are very helpful for quizzes too.
Best professor I've had so far at USC. If possible, choose her over any other Chemistry professor. The other reviews speak for themselves.
Professor Bryant is a really patient and fair professor who really does her best to make a relatively difficult subject easier to digest. If u took APchem in HS, it's easier relearning it. If not, don't be afraid to ask questions. The grading rubric is very fair. Be diligent in lab and in class, do suggested practice!
Amazing professor! Make sure to stay on top of the homework if you want to understand (not just memorize) stuff. Her flipped classroom teaching style really helped me learn the material, and I'd recommend doing workbook pages and summary sheets right after watching lectures to solidify concepts. She's a super caring and capable prof!!
Professor Bryant is definitely the best option for CHEM105a. She is a really good lecturer and the homework and quizzes are more straight forward than the other professors. Her class was flipped so the in-person lecture was mostly discussion and doing practice problems - probably don't need to attend if you already have taken AP Chem.
Professor Bryant is truly a joy for general chemistry. Far better than the Chem 105A professor, he who shall not be named. She is patient and answers questions, explains tough topics, and is compassionate to her students. Make sure to be on top of the video quizzes and the many homeworks. But these all help in the long run, so don't forget them.
Professor Bryant's CHEM105A is an extremely easy class if you just do all the assignments (i.e. video quizzes) with diligence and review lecture materials between the quiz.
Very chill professor! Since the lecture has a lot of students, it may be difficult to contact her, but her teaching is amazing. With few rigorous assignments, receiving a decent grade is not that difficult.
Bryant is an amazing prof. I came in so nervous about chem, and she truly has made it a great experience. Biweekly quizzes (& she tells u the topics) drops the lowest, and pretty minimal homework; which allows for time to study. Big class, but she is still accessible. Utilize SI & get in lab TAs good graces!! Very caring, would take her again!
Professor Bryant is a great chemistry instructor and a very likable person. Her subject is quite difficult, but she tries her best to explain it well. She is a tough grader on exams, but as long as you put in the effort, you will be okay. I recommend going to SI sessions and her office hours to get a better understanding of the material.
LOVE her (literally the best ever) but class if very difficult!!105A is much easier, and this class (w lab+study) takes SO SO much extra time if you want an A. the quizzes are ALWAYS more difficult than lecture, hw, etc. so overprepare for the quizzes. know material more in-depth than whats expected(even practice problems in book didn't fully help)
An icon. A legend. The moment. Dr. Bryant really wants her students to excel. Most of the grade is from quizzes, HW, a poster, and lab. MUCH better than chem105a!
Professor Bryant is very kind and amazing. Her class is structured very oddly, and not to my liking. She has videos that teach, and then in class, she does very minimal practice problems. For the quizzes, you NEED to go to the SI sessions. I just feel like I did not get enough practice for the quizzes which make up a majority of your grade.
Dr. Bryant is a wonderful professor who drives you to success. Each week, you are given video quizzes and homework worksheets (3-4 pgs) which help you preview/review content all the time. Instead of big tests, you take 6 quizzes throughout the semester (you drop 1). AP Chemistry really helps, but even as a beginner, the class prepares you well.
Prof Bryant is accessible for individual office hours if you're struggling with material/grades, gives great, concise, straightforward lectures, and - most importantly - gives fair assessments in the form of biweekly quizzes. I can't complain - what she taught was reflected on our quizzes. Quizzes were A LOT more difficult than hw/lecture material.
Dr. Bryant is the standard. She knows what it means to educate students and help them to actually learn the concepts. She'll make you work hard, while also being engaged and feeling like you're actually getting something out of the material, which is rare for many professors and very valuable for a STEM class.
Bryant is great! Her lecture style is to assign 1-3 video lectures (5-20 mins per video) the night before and then so a summary/practice problems in class. She is really nice and explains everything well. Chem 105a is basically just AP chem.
Absolute gem of a professor! Bryant is super caring and really wants all of her students to do well! Probably the easiest chemistry class I've ever taken. She tells you exactly what is going to be on the tests, and the lowest score is dropped. Take chem with Bryant!!!
Dr. Bryant is really nice and caring! She is super hilarious and willing to meet with her students even in her beak time! She wants her students to learn and is one of the best at USC! Take her!!
Dr. Bryant is a good professor and really wants you to succeed. Her course is definitely set up to help your grade, but it does take up a lot of time. There are tons of video quizzes and videos every week, so be prepared to spend a lot of your time on this class.
But She let students randomly form groups in group quiz. My groupmates always know nothing and then it is not a group quiz but a personal quiz for me. The lab manager seldom replys your email . I am so tired of this course, my personal quizzes are all nearly full points. I manage the knowledge but my grade are ruined by these stupid things.
Take CHEM with Bryant. She designs the course to help you learn, and it is not your traditional course w/ lectures+3-4 large tests. She makes herself accessiblle at all hours of the day to answer questions, and she is super kind and understand with students. You will have to work hard to do well, but at least you will have a supportive professor.
Bryant is a great option for CHEM, but I find her lectures to be unhelpful sometimes. She allows you a lot of chances to improve your grade so it is not solely based on tests, but I found that I learned best through SI and peers rather than her lectures. Definitely take her, but chem is difficult so be prepared to spend a lot of time studying.
Definitely the best option for Gen Chem at USC. I managed this course pretty well, but I didn't really learn from her. I learned mostly from the SI leaders, so attend SI sessions if you find lectures boring and can't absorb the knowledge. This semester there were only 4 individual quizzes, none was dropped, so one quiz grade can ruin your grade.
Very straightforward teacher. Videos online about topics, there is a short quiz after for points (all online). You can retake them until you do well. They're due MWF before class, and there's one HW due on Wednesday per week. Lecture isn't mandatory but helps. A couple of unit tests (3/4 weeks), no midterm, and a final project and cumulative final.
Teaching professor that lives by that title. Doesn't believe in weeder classes. Weekly quizzes instead of midterms. Ease comes at the expense of depth/complexity: Will make OCHEM and MCAT more difficult.
Horrible
Loved having Dr. Bryant for 105 A and B! She is very kind and fast in replying to emails! She is always available to help students! 105B gets a little difficult but Dr. Bryant is the absolute best option for both classes! Take her.
105B is tough as it is, and Bryant's lectures weren't as useful as Parr's (had her for 105A). Lectures aren't recorded though so go!! Group quizzes were hit or miss and are unnecessarily stressful. SI is a LIFESAVER. Quizzes (except final) were written by Bryant & Parr so problems may not align with lecture, though they are ok for the most part.
Easy going and organized professor that structures class well. Tests are straightforward with scores published within the next 2 days although tests aren't curved. Only downside is group quizzes where she either assigns the groups or tells you that you can't work with people you've worked with before.
Had Professor Bryant for the 2nd half of the class. She could go through lecture quite fast at times, but the slides are posted after class so there's no need to stress notes. Some labs were a bit challenging, so be sure to ask the TA's for help! Overall a great course for those into true crime, solving murders, and how to get away with them ;)
she is not a good instructor, nor an empathetic human. she does not teach. if you can teach yourself all the content after lectures, this is the class for you. if you actually want a teacher to teach, pick someone else. she teaches content AFTER she does weekly quizzes on it. she's the type to assume you already know everything on a topic then skim
105b seemed unnecessarily hard this semester. Her lectures were not very helpful, and the video lectures were also somewhat unhelpful. Overall a nice person and willing to help if you ask for it. Grading is not harsh, but the quizzes were sometimes unlike anything we'd done. There was a long time between learning content and being quizzed on it.
CHEM 105b is a hard class by nature but Professor Bryant gives you everything you need to be successful. Attend SI, pay attention in class, and do the video quiz homework and if you still don't understand Professor Bryant is really accessible outside of class. Plus easy project at end to boost your grade. Love her!
alright good prof and very understanding when I did have to miss a test. that being said, be prepared for very difficult tests for every one besides the very first. do all the SIs and study intensely otherwise you will do poorly. hard, but typical for a weed out class. Bryant does a great job explaining things
Easy if you can plug numbers into equations! Great professor!
Great Professor. Engaging lectures, funny and caring while still teaching a lot. Reasonable grader and very fair amount of homework.
She is amazing, sad she's leaving USC
Chem 105a is just a brutal class in general but out of the two professors I had (because she left halfway through) I can definitely see why Prof. Bryant was so respected. Her lectures were engaging and thorough and covered the core topics and their importance rather than just examples. Quizzes are hard but everything rounds out nice in the end.
She left USC halfway through the Fall 2022 semester, but had a good experience when she was here.
Bryant leaving USC was the final straw for the chem department. She is an amazing professor who genuinely cares about her students. She left halfway through the semester but was a big part of my success in this course.
Dr. Bryant was sincerely a gem, I was sad when she left to work for Caltech mid semester. She had great lectures with reasonable expectations and clear deadlines. She knew how to structure the class to combat difficult material. Tests were challenging but if you did the work you would do well. I wish Dr. Bryant the best in her future endeavors !
Sad that she left. She was an amazing prof. at USC. Best Chemistry professor in terms of explaining things. But her tests were very difficult still.
