Tough class, but her teaching method is pretty effective.
this class is challenging. lots of details in math problems. little mistakes during the LONG tests hurt grade. tests are hard and it will take the full 1hr15min to try to finish. but she is cool even though she seems stern
this teacher makes it extremely hard, if you do not understand something she makes you look like a total idiot infront of the whole class, and looks down on you, she is so tough that you just loose interist in the class and cant wait untill its over. overall this is a terible teacher for fin 300
Had her for both classes. She was tough but fair. She seems stern at first but she's nice. Overall a good teacher, but she is very challenging. Expect to learn a lot as well. If you're lazy, dont take her.
She really cares about the students, and doesn't want anyone to fail. If you need help, go to her office hours, she's very helpful
she is a cruel lady
This class is difficult, but manageable if you work hard. She is very helpful if you seek her aid in her office hours. However, once again let me remind you that this class isn't exactly easy; you will have to work for your grade.
Jasmine is an extremely passionate and dedicated instructor. Her class is fast paced and the material is challenging. You will have plenty of group projects, so choose your group members carefully. Study and retain all of the lecture material and you will at least get a B. tests are long and hard
Great teacher! It was a hard class but she was so dedicated to her students and was willing to answer any questions regarding the materials. I actually learned a lot from this class.
Great Professor, she gives you study guides and notes. As long as you study its a guaranteed A.
Her program is very ambitious to a fault. Her command of the English language is ok. She is smart and knowledgeable, however it is difficult to read her. Her group projects lack clarity. Your Excel skills must be up to par. I would advise anyone to try another teacher.
Her exams are killers but you learn a lot from her class. I always need more time on the exam, there are 4 long workout problems and 10 multiple choice questions. Not simple & easy mulitple choice questions either. Her assignments and projects are long and time consuming and there are too many of it
Exams aren't too difficult (multiple choice is worst)-if you understand the concepts. Tests are curved based on highest grade. Projects are killers. They're time consuming & she's not very clear about how she'll grade them. She's one of those profs who seems curt & distant, but she's genuinely nice if you talk to her (probably a Taiwanese thing).
Tough class but you'll definitely learn a lot. She is very knowledgeable & spends time going over problems in class. Keep up with work assigned & it will help you on exams. She rarely responds to emails. Projects are hard and the final is cumulative. Reading the book didn't help me on the multiple choice. If I do it again, I wouldn't buy the book.
A lot of work! She is very helpful on the assignments though. I thought I wasn't doing well, but pulled an A; which majority (80-90%) of the class gets.
Jasmine was funny, taught me lots and expected a lot from her students. I enjoyed my time in this course and got a lot out of it. She comes off as being totally mean but it's all bark and no bite... she's great.
She is a horrible teacher. Her lectures are boring and not very conducive to learning the material. She is preety abrupt and rude to students
Very nice teacher, HOWEVER: EXTREMELY THICK ACCENT! Her accent makes it really hard to understand such a technical subject. I had to drop the course. It's not worth trying to learn the material on your own. Tuition is too high for me to go on and teach myself. We need better and more competent business teachers at CSULB.
The class was very interesting. Her tests and quizzes are REALLY hard, BUUTT she has an amazing curve. Without the curve, i think i got a low B or High C. When she applied the curve i got an A. Study the practice questions and the practice test, and you will do fine. For the most part, it's the kind of class you have to show up to.
shes a pretty cool teacher. her lectures are kind of hard to understand at times because of her accent, but one thing she does well is providing students with examples of the type of problems on the test...if u read the book and do the sample hw and test...u should have no problem passing her class...easier than it seems
Extremely difficult class! I enjoy a challenge, but her group project instructions and material on exams are very unclear. Tons of work, difficult to learn becuase of her thick accent. And, when you can't understand her accent, she'll get a little irritated assuming it's you fault. I dropped this class among along with many others.
Class is a lot harder than I thought. I could barely understand a word she said with her thick asian accent. There are 3 assignments, 3 tests (drop the lowest) and the final. You have to pay attention or study hard cuz tests are difficult, a lot of weird formulas and math. Maybe take someone who is easier to understand.
Find a group to review homework with-it really helps to work with others. The work is not easy, but she gives you very good guidelines of what to study. She is helpful, but difficult to understand-REALLY THICK ACCENT-not too clear. Great personality! You learn alot of useful financial techniques for real life. SHOW UP TO CLASS-she memorizes names.
I don't know why people are making a big deal about Prof. Yur-Austin's accent, you can understand her clearly. She prepares you well for the tests. She is an excellent teacher.
She is a great Professor. Very knowledgable and full of information. Ya she a an accent but it's not hard to understand if you are listening.... Lots of work but it definitely helps you stay on track with the course. Take her!!!
She is a really nice teacher. The class is really hard n lot of hw, but she is really helpful. All the tests are open books and notes. If you go to class every time, it shouldn't be 2 hard!!! I like her =)
Yes, her accent is almost impossible to understand. This class is EXTREMELY difficult. Tons of group work on projects that take days to complete, and not enough time in class going over how to do them. Exams not as difficult, but certainly no cake walk. I ended up droping the class because my group sucked and she was extremly boring. Dont take.
prob one of the best finance teachers at csulb. helps students a lot and quizzes and tests are straight forward. shes well prepared and knows the material. uses current events in lectures and is hella funny. highly recc.
One of the best finance professors I ever had. She demands alot and you actually learn alot. She will keep you on your toes. She is a very nice lady who cares for her students.
Pretty easy class. 3 exams( drop 1), 10 quizzes(drop 2), 1 final(comprehensive), and 3 short assignments that are almost exactly like her exams. Attendance counts as well. She is a nice and funny lady, but I do agree with some other posters that her accent does take some getting used to. Overall, I'd recommend taking this class.
Don,t take her class. She is so hard. Tests and group projects are very hard. She will give you a time limit for the tests, and it is really hard to finish the whole test by that time.
She doesn't teach much, but she knows how to make hard tests. She has too much demand from her students.Don't take her class.
First I thought Finanace is hard but after I studied in her class, everything is fun. She is the best teacher; I had never... Fun and clear.
A fun lady but exam are difficult!
She's a tough cookie but you learn a lot at the end. Many group projects and so limited time but she gives many extra credit points.
3 midterms (drops 1), 1 cumulative final, 10 quizzes (drops 2), 3 assignments. jasmine is pretty serious, fast and somewhat difficult. However, she is VERY helpful. prepares u very well for the tests. gives a large amount of extra credit and a generous curve. no reason not to pass. very possible to get an A with some effort.
Possibly the worst teacher I have ever had. I can not understand one word she says. She also refuses to make eye contact with anyone, it looks like she is counting ceiling tiles when she is lecturing. Horrible!!!
NOT GOOD VERY BAD
Personally, I think Jasmine is a great professor. She is very helpful and she genuinely wants her students to succeed. This course is pretty challenging, and I would recommend going to EVERY class. Inclass quizzes are hard, but she gives lots of examples/notes to help you prepare for homework and tests, and the extra credit really helps your grade!
Very hard class but teacher is helpful. I would recommend going to every class because the material is tough and she does practice problems that are useful. The assignments and quizzes are good preparation for the tests so if you study those and attend class chances are that you will pass.
Jasmine is awesome!!!You do not have to purchase a book to do well in this class, because her lecture slides cover everything! Easy B but tough A.
Jasmine was an OK teacher, but her lecture slides were EXTREMELY helpful and clear. No need for the book if you follow her slides. 4 midterms, drop the lowest one, and 5 in quizes. 3 Homework assignments which are harder than the exams themselves
She doesn't have a roll sheet, but she knows everyone by the second week and notices if you're gone. Plus, missing class is pretty lame cause the book is really legnthy and she doesn't test you on everything. The assignments and quizes are harder the tests. Class is hard but curved VERY WELL. Focus on slides. Concept questions are hardest.
She is a great Professor. Learnt a lot from her, but you gotta study hard for the exams and quizes. The quizzes are, in fact, more difficult than the exams. The finals is almost impossible. But then again, she curves. If you wanna learn, take her!
Jasmine is a fantastic communicator who is very interested in her students. She will know your name by the 3rd or 2nd week so go to class. The tests and quizzes are challenging, but since this is an introductory course, you should be pushed to understand concepts in harder finance classes. I'd take jasmine for all my finance classes if I could.
One of the best teacher's I've had in business. Material is hard but she explains down to a T. Lots of practice problems and posts answers to previous h/w and quizzes. Not an easy A or B. You have to work for it. Has an accent but easy to understand and kind of funny. 5 Quizzes 3 Midterms. Drop the lowest for each. Cum. Final.
My advice, buy the book (int'l edition is fine). I learned more from the book than from the instructor. Get a study group to do the assignments together. Quizzes and tests are a nightmare but she curves the grades (I think 60% in our class was a C). Go to class, she assigns seats and knows when you are absent by the chair # being empty.
She goes out of her way to make your life harder. Students are responsible for 2 sets of notes for each chapter (from 11th and 12th ed. book). Instead of making the class understandable, she makes it ridiculously hard and compensates with a huge curve. The amount of work put in isnt really worth the mediocre grade. She is ALWAYS irritated & angry.
Difficult class, but she grades on a really big curve. Theres a lot of info to take in. Def. knows her stuff and provides practice problems. She uploads the quiz and assignment answers so you can study off of them, which is extremely helpful for the exams. She takes random attendance which is worth 5%. 2 exams, 1 cumal final, assignments, and quizs
4 quizzes, 2 tests, one comprehensive final, 2 assignments, and a few opportunities for extra credit. Awful STAY AWAY from this class unless you knew someone who took it that way you can get all the quizzes and assignments before- if not STAY FAR FAR AWAY. doesnt help at all during office hrs as well
This is seriously the worst professor i have ever had at csulb. She is ridiculously hard, completly rude when you ask a question if you don't understand and has a horrible accent!! Stay away from her class unless you want to fail.
This class is INTENSE.Too intense for a basic Fin class. She is hard to understand(BAD ENGLISH) She goes to fast and expects you to know material fast. doesnt explain things theroughly. had her for 2 weeks and switched teachers bec i felt so overwelmed.if you want to take your time with learning fin,or unless you really like a challenge,AVOID HER!
She is a great professor! Had her for both Undergrad and Graduate Finance. Got a A both times!
This class got progressively harder. The beginning of the course was okay and easy to get the hang of but after the 1st midterm it felt like we went in hypermode and no one knew what was going on. When I turned in my final more than half the class was still trying to finish after the class period had ended. Not sure how I pulled a C haha. C = 60%
Excellent Instructor. Sometimes a bit difficult to understand due to accent but not overly difficult. She was willing to help. Don't kid yourself. This class will require time. I spent as much time on this one class as I did on all three of the others combined. Difficult class. I'm an A student and I walked away from this one with a 'c'. Ouch!
Very structured professor. Clear and she curves the class while also offering extra credit throughout the class.
Dr J is a very good professor but she can be hard to understand. The first midterm is easy but after that, she class goes by very fast. She offers a lot of extra credit and a big curve. Sit in front, pay attention, you'll get a B. It is very hard to get an A.
difficult to understand. period.
Very smart Prof, not the best lecturer. Uses powerpoint slides so print those to take notes. Offers extra credit. Teaches lots for survey course, some things useful, most not. HUGE CURVE, 60%=PASS w/ C...overall decent class w/ lots of studying, book NOT needed
finance is a hard subject. especially for first timers. she knows what she's talking about. go to class. do exercises she tells u to do. review all the materials she provides. she does want students to perform well and pass. i highly recommend esp for finance majors. she will teach you what fin is.
Avoid this class like th plague..... She is difficult to understand, and her tests are ridiculous!!! She expects FIN 300 students to be experts in the subject as soon as they are done. As a mangement major I was lost and she was unwilling to help. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!!!!!!!!!!
Avoid! Nobody can understand her lectures. She goes too fast and won't answer questions. 85% of the class can't even finish her ridiculously challenging tests let alone do well on them. People only pass because she curves almost everything, has extra credit, and 60% is a C. I like Finance.I was considering a double major, but she ruined it for me.
take this class if you want to know FIN. YOU GET WHAT YOU EARN IN THIS CLASS! there is no short cutting in this class. read the book, do the questions in book along with all the PPT and questions she supplies and you will get a B. If you can teach the class you will earn an A. She is very fast and hard to understand so know your info before class
This class is getting harder so it's crucial to do well at the beginning, earn as much point as possible. For acct and finance students, this class is not hard at all as we are used to financial calculator. For the others, it's a challenging class. I think she's good comparing to many other prof. The materials are just difficult.
This is a very difficult class for many! (~65% is passing!). I am an accounting major, and thought that this class was about as challenging as my other acct classes. If you love numbers, then you'll be fine. I am one of the students who actually tries to go beyond the numbers and equations. Read the ppts and books thoroughly and you will pass!
Hard class. Don't fall behind or you'll never catch up. Best way to learn is to look at lecture slides before class because she goes through everything really fast. The tests are hard and nobody finishes them on time. She does offer like 3 or so extra credits and are pretty useful. All her lectures are posted online along with quizes and hw.
Really enjoyed the class although it was a challenge. Fist semester with "flipped" class style and I found it really helpful for learning the material. Heavy accent & improper plurals, but fun, friendly and clear. Answers emails same day. Assignments almost every day. Be prepared to work, but everything you need to know is available to you!
Strait forward. You get what you earn. Love the flip class style! By the end of the class you'll know Finance better than your class mates. Weekly homework assignments. A lot of teaching yourself. Class setup is a recipe for success and works on your weaknesses before the exam. Wish she was teaching 400+ classes so then I could have her again.
Best professor at CSULB. She knows how to teach, most professors don't. Expect to work, but you will learn for sure!!!
Professor Jasmin is A+ of AMAZING. She really cares about her students. She knows how to teach and you will actually learn A LOT. Expect work and quizzes, but you earn what you work for. Quizzes are very similar to pre-assessments and gives bonus questions at the end. Midterms are 30/70 theory/problem solving. TAKE HER!!!! Trust me, she's the best
outstanding professor! she seems intimidating but REALLY cares about her students. she takes time to make sure you are doing okay and is an excellent finance teacher who explains things very well. online homework and quizzes as well as post assessments (pre tests) and then midterms/final. she wants students to learn and pass. take her!!
Professor Austin comes off intimidating at first, but she's honestly an amazing professor! She truly cares about her students, and tries her best to make you understand the criteria. She gives out post assessments within every 3 chapters, and they're basically similar to the test. I took her hybrid class, and I honestly don't regret.
She's very thorough and is very detailed in her lectures. If you actively participate and ask questions she will make sure you understand the material. As long as you try hard you will succeed in her class. Lots of work but very well worth it, you will see it pay off in the end.
this was a hybrid class. Tests are from class work and online assignments. Keep up with the online portion and the rest is pretty straight forward. She is very interested in her students.
Took her FIN300 class from 2017. Be sure to have financial calculator before the 2nd week starts. Then, put in reasonable amount of work to get A in her class.
Materials wont help you prep for "quizes", group project is unclear, final is a nightmare. Her teaching style is lacking and the course load is heavy to say the least. Good luck
Taken for Summer 2021 Asynchronous course. She assigned an Insane amount of work. There was a lot of class resources (zoom recordings, book, etc.) but her accent was heavy and it was hard to follow. You have to buy another software to complete the homework and quizzes. Many people dropped the class. Save your summer tuition money.
Took her online class FIN300, heavy accent, sometimes I think she doesnt know what she is talking about, her lectures look like she read the textbook and just gave us the important part without explaining, just dropping unclear info. A lot of grammar errors in the lecture and lecture quizzes. The class by itself is not hard.
Where do I start . . Dr J. is by far the best professor I have ever had. She is caring, easy to reach, clear, and thorough She is extremely clear with her grading and gives opportunity for extra credit. She also does final review sessions. Yes, finance is difficult, but she gives you every resource to do well!!
Professor Jasmine is an exceedingly kind and diligent educator. She remains accessible to always address student inquiries and is dedicated to facilitating student learning. Notably, she is lenient in her grading approach, prioritizing effective material delivery over stringent grading. Her commitment to imparting knowledge is truly commendable.
Dr. J Yur-Austin is an amazing finance professor. She responds immediately to feedback and make adjustments per the classes needs. She will always provide 1:1 time with you if you need help with something. I would highly recommend taking her and make sure to get to know her if you're in an asynchronous class or you're missing out!
Professor is great! Professor is very responsive if need help or run into any issues. Course was online, lectures are recordings. Homework is done on Cengage, tests will be challenging but if you do the work you should understand the concepts. Cengage will help if you get stuck on the material. Grades are given right away.
I LOVED this class. It consists of weekly quizzes, videos, and extra credit opportunities. There is a cumulative final exam toward the end of the class, so ensure that you take good notes. I advise you not to miss class, as there is a lot of content, and to take good notes. I would also suggest taking the practices. They will come in handy.
